[01:45.280 --> 01:52.160] Bears podcast. And he was asked about the Bears hiring Seahawks former Seahawks offensive
[01:52.160 --> 01:58.240] coordinator Shane Waldron. And he gave one of the best answers I've ever heard in my life from a
[01:58.240 --> 02:04.880] professional athlete best ever. The dude goes, I'm pretty sure it was on radio row at Super Bowl
[02:04.880 --> 02:11.760] Week in Vegas, if I'm not mistaken. But while Jackson's opening Canan up to Seattle with open arms,
[02:11.760 --> 02:16.400] he is kicking Shane Waldron right out the door of the Pacific Northwest, because he gets asked,

[08:08.880 --> 08:12.640] going to pick them up. It was the Mariners. But that is one of the latest pieces of news in the
[08:12.640 --> 08:16.960] Mariners world. They have signed Canan Smith and Jigba who's now going to be in spring training.
[08:17.760 --> 08:23.280] He said a cup of tea in the big leagues, just 18 games. He's only hit 125 really hasn't been a
[08:23.280 --> 08:30.400] true sample size there. He was a former fourth round pick of the of the Yankees back in 2000
[08:31.040 --> 08:37.360] and in 2018. But he's not he's not a big power bat in the minors. He did hit for a little bit more
[08:37.360 --> 08:42.000] power and triple A. He gets on base though. He walks a decent amount down there in the minor leagues
[08:42.000 --> 08:48.400] at double A throughout his career. He's had it on base percentage just one point under 400
[08:48.400 --> 08:52.640] and triple A that on base percentage is around 366. He's a good athlete. He plays multiple
[08:52.640 --> 08:58.080] outfield positions. Now that's act of loach is gone. He's got an open spot down there in Tacoma
[08:58.160 --> 09:04.160] to go play, which we're imagining. That's where he's going to be playing to open up the 2024 season,
[09:04.160 --> 09:07.520] which is down there at the Tacoma Rainiers. And he's going to get the opportunity to hit a
[09:07.520 --> 09:11.920] little bit and showcase his bat a little bit more as he's grown. This is going to be his age
[09:11.920 --> 09:17.440] 25 season. He turns 25 on April 30th. So just going to get a nice good hitters environment to
[09:17.440 --> 09:22.320] come to Seattle and showcases talents. He will probably get a cup of coffee in the big leagues as
[09:22.320 --> 09:27.680] well as the Mariners like to cycle some of their fifth outfielder types up and down from the minor
[09:27.680 --> 09:31.520] leagues. He's going to be behind Kate Marlow and Taylor Tramiel. But after that,
[09:31.520 --> 09:34.560] you could definitely see Kane and having a shot at the big leagues.

[09:39.120 --> 09:43.600] what the loach is is. I'm not saying certainly, but there's a chance because he

[09:49.200 --> 09:53.280] down in triple A Indianapolis last year. So you can see why the Mariners like him. He's got some
[09:53.280 --> 09:58.320] poppies got some speed. He can play the outfield. Good athlete. We'll see what happens, right?
[09:58.320 --> 10:02.240] There's not that much we can break down about this. Obviously in a short time in the big leagues,
[10:02.240 --> 10:06.640] it hasn't been very good. But you know what, he's only had 44 big league plate appearances.
[10:06.640 --> 10:12.080] It's not like he's had a full sample size or anything either. So yeah, just see what happens.

[10:16.880 --> 10:22.480] of scenery is good for him. Yeah. So we will. So we'll see. And he did he had a lot of success in the

[10:26.480 --> 10:29.920] wasn't quite as rosy. And now he's with the Mariners. So we're going to have to see that.

[10:37.200 --> 10:42.480] Colin Snyder was claimed off waivers from the Diamondbacks. Not a whole lot of big league
[10:42.480 --> 10:47.840] success, especially last year. He struggled, locked more batters than he struck out. There's
[10:47.840 --> 10:51.920] some things to like with this slider though. I'm going to credit Mariners Steve who contributed
[10:51.920 --> 10:59.680] to our mailbag last Friday. And he went up and dug up. He dug up Colin Snyder's slider numbers.
[10:59.680 --> 11:06.000] And there's a 36% whiff rate there. He had an O67 batting average against it with a 133 slug.
[11:06.000 --> 11:12.160] So there's like a little bit to like for a guy with an ERA over five and a strikeout rate that was
[11:12.800 --> 11:18.640] not very good this past season. In 20 innings, he struck out 11 batters. That is a whopping,
[11:19.520 --> 11:23.200] where is it? I didn't write that. It was like, it was 14%. Not very good.
[11:24.560 --> 11:28.160] There's always something though. When the Mariners sign one of these guys, what do we know? They
[11:28.160 --> 11:33.040] like something. Otherwise, they're not bringing them in. And we know the Mariners are fantastic
[11:33.040 --> 11:37.280] with reliever development. Not every single guy's going to work, but they probably see something.

[12:32.800 --> 12:38.480] today, a report came out from Daniel Kramer of MLB.com about a couple nuggets on the Mariners
[12:38.480 --> 12:43.520] non-roster invitations to spring training. Harry Ford and Cole Young, the Mariners top two prospects
[12:43.520 --> 12:48.640] will both be getting invitations to big late camp. And more importantly, they will both be getting
[12:48.640 --> 12:52.960] time on the infield. Cole's a shortstop. He's obviously going to be on the infield. But Harry Ford,
[12:52.960 --> 12:57.840] who's came up through the organization as a catcher, we've heard so much about his athleticism,
[12:57.840 --> 13:03.760] he's finally going to get to see time in the field somewhere besides behind the plate. And what I think
[13:03.840 --> 13:08.560] because of that is that they see a path to the big leagues this year for Harry Ford. And he's
[13:08.560 --> 13:13.200] not going to unseat Cal rally. It does Harry Ford no service to sit behind Cal rally at the big league
[13:13.200 --> 13:17.360] level. You'd rather get him up there to the big league level and play every single day somewhere
[13:17.360 --> 13:23.040] else. And it seems like that's going to be infield. That'd be great. And third base makes the most
[13:23.040 --> 13:29.440] sense, right? It's the probably least solidified position right now. So if Harry Ford's going to
[13:29.440 --> 13:33.360] learn third base and I'm sure he's got the arm for it, obviously he's got a great arm behind the plate.
[13:33.760 --> 13:38.320] So if he can be behind the plate, he can definitely be over at third base. We can get up that way.
[13:38.320 --> 13:42.080] Great. The only thing I'm a little bit surprised about with Harry Ford is I always figured if he
[13:42.080 --> 13:45.280] was going to play somewhere else, it was going to be the outfield. But I guess they say infield.

[13:54.720 --> 13:59.840] the thing of the what Harry has working for him on the infield. Here's here's how I put it.

[14:03.280 --> 14:07.200] younger than Harry Ford and they're all lower in the organization than him.
[14:07.200 --> 14:10.960] So if he's going to get to the big leagues first, he can go there and grab a spot. But if he's a
[14:10.960 --> 14:14.880] good athlete, you know, you could you can move him in and out if if you need to, as long as you get
[14:14.880 --> 14:21.280] him enough repetition when he needs it out there. If you see Harry Ford somehow supplanting
[14:21.280 --> 14:26.640] Kate Marlow, Taylor Tramell, and Kane and Smith and Jigwa and jumping all of them to the big leagues,
[14:26.640 --> 14:32.320] then yeah, outfield's a realistic path. But I don't think so because right now if you move
[14:32.320 --> 14:34.640] Harry Ford to the infield, who's in front of him.
[14:36.400 --> 14:42.080] Yeah, that's a good point. It's less crowded out there right now. Although if his bat is that good,
[14:42.080 --> 14:46.160] maybe you find a spot for him in the outfield. If you if you feel like that's where he's better
[14:46.160 --> 14:52.560] suited and you rotate everybody else around as needed, maybe. But yeah, they really think he
[14:52.560 --> 14:56.240] can play third base. Great. I always figured if he was going to play anywhere in the infield,
[14:56.240 --> 15:00.240] it'd be second base, but they obviously have a solution for second base now in Jorge Polanco.
[15:00.240 --> 15:04.800] So yeah, I'll be interested to see how he looks over a third base. The other thing too is

[15:33.120 --> 15:36.240] Well, if you got the whiteboard in Jerry's office, if you're looking at your prospects,
[15:36.240 --> 15:39.680] they're going to make an impact on the big leagues this year and you have Harry Ford at number one,
[15:39.680 --> 15:44.880] he's going to get that priority spot over Cole. So if he goes to third, then there's no reason
[15:44.880 --> 15:49.680] to bring Cole up this season. I really like, I knew you floated way earlier in this off season
[15:49.680 --> 15:54.080] that you don't think it's out of out of the question that Cole Young comes up and plays in
[15:54.080 --> 15:58.640] the big league this year. I think that for the most part gets shot down if Harry Ford
[15:59.280 --> 16:03.920] spends a lot of time on the infield in the minor leagues and he's slotted ahead of Cole Young
[16:03.920 --> 16:11.680] because that would be taking Cole's spot and then and then and then Cole would fight for a spot.
[16:11.680 --> 16:15.280] Next season the Mariners would have another roster crunch on their hand to really figure
[16:15.280 --> 16:19.040] out how they're going to get all these guys playing time if Cole's really ready next year
[16:19.040 --> 16:24.560] at age 21. If Harry's playing better than Cole Young, Harry's going to be the first one up,
[16:24.560 --> 16:28.320] but I was going to say I'm glad you brought up that Cole Young take a mind because
[16:28.960 --> 16:33.520] feel like I'm validated a little bit with the Daniel Kramer report. Now, I feel like me saying
[16:33.520 --> 16:38.880] there is a chance Cole Young gets up in September isn't crazy anymore because why in the world
[16:38.880 --> 16:44.160] else would they have him playing significant time in big league camp if they thought he was not
[16:44.240 --> 16:52.160] going to be up at all this year? There are 31 other people invited in the same list as Cole Young.
[16:53.280 --> 16:56.400] But it sounds like he's going to play a lot. There's guys that get invited to big league camp that
[16:56.400 --> 16:59.840] don't play all that much. Sounds like him and Harry are going to play. That's fair. But
[17:01.360 --> 17:07.040] the news that Harry's on the infield makes me think Cole is a is a wrong lower than then Harry Ford
[17:07.040 --> 17:12.720] and unfortunately I did like your take. But if Harry's going to take his spot on the infield,
[17:12.720 --> 17:17.360] it kind of nullifies any chance Cole Young has of being up unless someone gets hurt.

[17:22.480 --> 17:26.640] as we sit right now, is probably a little bit ahead of Cole Young because Harry played the whole
[17:26.640 --> 17:32.000] year in high-A, Cole played part of the year in high-A. But it may be a race all of a sudden
[17:32.000 --> 17:36.480] between those two. Those guys will play those guys will play different spots in AA this year at
[17:36.480 --> 17:40.640] some point in time, whether it's right away a few weeks in a month and a half and whatever.
[17:40.640 --> 17:44.640] Assuming Cole Young continues to hit, he's going to AA this year and they will play different
[17:44.640 --> 17:48.800] positions. So whoever's hitting better between those two, that's who's going to have the edge.

[22:18.880 --> 22:24.400] for an organization that claims they don't have money to spend. And if they're going to roll out of

[22:32.880 --> 22:36.800] play third base at age 24. I'm struggling to see that.

[22:45.440 --> 22:56.960] dependent on three things. Number one, how do Arias and Rojas look as a platoon through the first four months of the season? I think that's number one. Number two, how does Nolan
[22:56.960 --> 23:06.400] Aranado look through the first four months of the season? And number three, maybe most importantly, how do the Cardinals as a team look through the first four months? The first four months of the season?
[23:06.560 --> 23:20.160] The Cardinals last year were a disaster. Like every single player had down years. They couldn't get anything going as a unit and they had an awful season. They missed the playoffs in a bad division. Like it was a forgetful season in St. Louis.
[23:20.960 --> 23:33.840] Is that going to happen again? I don't know. I don't love their starting pitching, but that offense is plenty good enough to click and turn it around. And again, a bad division that just lost maybe the best arm in the division in Corbin Burns.

[25:38.360 --> 25:53.320] I don't even know how to describe the Colorado Rockies right now, but in that video, it just, it describes that, you know, Nolan, they gave Nolan Aranado, they signed him to, I think it was an eight-year contract, but they put an opt-out clause for Nolan after just two seasons.
