[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to episode number 151 of the Marine Layer Podcast. It's a mailbag episode. We'll answer all of your guys' best questions.
[00:00:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get it rolling.
[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer Podcast, part of the Just Baseball Podcast Network.
[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Recording Wednesday evening, July 31st, post-game of the Mariners getting walked off in Boston.
[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say it's only been three days, but I do miss playing the White Sox.
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that was a little bit more relaxing.
[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was. Why? Because they're maybe going to be the worst team of all time.
[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_01]: That might have something to do with it. Certainly less stressful than watching this team attempt to play a series in Boston,
[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_01]: which it will now be a full decade between winning series, at least, between winning series in Boston. A decade.
[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_01]: It was funny. They were reading it on the radio today. Some of the players in the series, the last time the Mariners won a game in Boston.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you realize there were two current general managers playing in that game? In that series?
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_00]: You mean the last time they won a series in Boston?
[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the last time they won a series in Boston.
[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_00]: So Craig Breslow was probably playing.
[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: That's one. Yep.
[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Jerry wasn't still playing by then.
[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not.
[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: In division.
[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Can it be any GM in baseball?
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Chris Young.
[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Start of game two.
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: What a time.
[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: That's how long it has been.
[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, again, I still give the Mariners credit for winning that White Sox series because they faced two very good starters and a young starter with some real upside.
[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: They're throwing the ball well in Drew Thorpe.
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not going to totally gloss over that.
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: The Mariners winning in Chicago and sweeping in Chicago.
[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But they got to find a way to start beating some of these competitive teams.
[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: They have to.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: They're four games under 500 against teams that are over 500 this year.
[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_00]: That's not great.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not awful, but it's not great.
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: And they're actually going to have some advantage over the Phillies this weekend because you look at the Phillies and the Mariners on paper and it's, well, these can be the two best rotations in baseball.
[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_00]: But where the Mariners actually luck out this weekend is they miss Aaron Nola and they're not facing Ranger Suarez because he's on the IL.
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: So they faced Tyler Phillips and Colby Allard the first two games.
[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_00]: There's actually a chance there to take that series.
[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_00]: But again, you have to start capitalizing.
[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_00]: You just have to.
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you do.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_01]: It was stressful this week or this week.
[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Just playing in that ballpark, sort of the feel of it.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So this is going to sort of relate to our first mailback question.
[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to our mailback here in a few.
[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But Fenway is the second best run scoring environment in baseball this year, which is not shocking given some of the hits the Red Sox have where they could literally hit a ball that's like an expected batting average of below 100.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And it would just go off the monster for a double.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Boom.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Boom.
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Boom.
[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And there's not much the Mariners pitchers could do about it.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: But certainly a lot more stressful.
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't see any dominant outings from any Mariners starter or really reliever this weekend.
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It was not a great weekend for the bullpen either.
[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, sort of disappointing that a team that we feel like the Red Sox are on the Mariners talent level.
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But this season just seems like the Red Sox, especially in this series, you know, sort of just found a way more often than not to come through against this team.
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about Monday's game on Wednesday's podcast.
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_01]: We're releasing technically today when we're recording this on Wednesday.
[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_01]: But when we recorded it after Tuesday's game where Logan Gilbert just, you know, kind of got screwed on a pitch.
[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, there's not too much you could do about that.
[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_01]: But the lack of execution, I would say, from some of the Mariners pitching was troubling.
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_01]: And then in game three today, they were sort of hanging on by dear life and had Jonathan Diaz pitch in the 10th inning with some other guys available, which was disappointing.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: He comes in and Rafi Devers walks it off.
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was just a frustrating series.
[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Mitch Garver had one of his worst in a bad season for him, had one of his worst games of the season on Wednesday.
[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just disappointing.
[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So back to your point, Lyle, about needing to play better against 500 teams.
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's got to start this weekend because eventually to make us all feel comfortable, they got to put some distance between themselves and the Astros again.
[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_01]: They finally willed themselves back into first place this week, a game lead entering Wednesday's game.
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, I could go.
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Who knows what that's going to look like on Friday as well?
[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's going to require a winning streak and winning streaks are going to require beating good teams like they did earlier in the season when they built a 10 game lead.
[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, some injuries have nagged the lineup a little bit on this road trip.
[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_01]: The pitching, you know, on the road is not has been well documented.
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: It has not been as good as it's been at home.
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_01]: That's plus for this weekend, but a minus for having to go and play teams like the Red Sox, who hit a lot and they hit a lot against the M's this weekend.
[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Look, I want to give the Mariners offense some credit here because the first five games of this road trip, they scored 40 combined runs.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So they really did break out and they showed some real life.
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, you can't do that all the time.
[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And as a result, on Wednesday, they didn't.
[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_00]: They scored two runs.
[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: But overall, I think it was actually a fine road trip.
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: A four and two road trip is a fine road trip.
[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_00]: It just would have been very nice to see them get that game on Wednesday.
[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_00]: So, like, you know, they're not coming back from this thing one in five where they lost two of three to the White Sox.
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Then then we'd be having having an entirely different conversation.
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_00]: There's reasons to be excited.
[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Like these trades have clearly in a very short time span so far helped not just help the offense and its production, but help the energy of the team, too.
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_00]: But that doesn't change the fact that you have got to start taking advantage of competitive teams.
[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And the Mariners are going to have a stretch here where they're playing a bunch of competitive teams.
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to play the Phillies.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to play the Mets, etc., etc.
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And you're going to, like, the Tigers aren't great, but they're honestly not a pushover either.
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_00]: So you're going to have to find a way to take advantage of some of these competitive teams.
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully at home with your pitchers at home, you do that.
[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I do worry about Gregory Santos just a minute here on that.
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Just because he's now – you're now talking about this season he has endured a lat injury, a knee injury, and now he has a bicep injury.
[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_00]: We don't know the extent of what the bicep injury is yet.
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Here on Wednesday he's going to undergo an MRI.
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But oof.
[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's been a season of bad luck for him.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you that.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And the Mariners can't really afford to lose him.
[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_01]: The high-leverage bullpen arms are few and far between.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: You felt that this weekend.
[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_01]: The only time the Mariners were truly able to put out the fire with the bullpen was game two with Garcia and Munoz pitching back-to-back innings.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_01]: That was it.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_01]: That was the only time all weekend a reliever from the Mariners' bullpen came in and you felt comfortable about it.
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Which if you're going to have to go on the road, down the stretch, and in the playoffs, that's not ultimately going to help you out very much.
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It stinks.
[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And we want Gregory Santos to pitch.
[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But this just feels like it's going to be a lost season for him.
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Since this is technically, I guess, his third injury of the season.
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Spring training and then the two injuries in season.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_01]: This is his third injury.
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I would feel like at this point, based on whatever that MRI says, I feel like they're just going to be cautious and they'll just put him on the IL.
[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, that'll bring Gabe Spire back to the big leagues, which will be nice.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it'll be nice to have Gabe back in the big leagues.
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: But they really, really could use Gregory Santos.
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: So, it's disappointing.
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: And some more troubling news out of this week is Victor Robles sounds like he's going to be dealing with a hip issue for the rest of the season.
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not comforting.
[00:08:47] No.
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners need him.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_01]: They need him at the top of the lineup and they need him hitting.
[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be good if his performance is wilted a little bit by this nagging issue.
[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Scott Service was making it sound like this isn't something that you could 10-day IL him for and it goes away.
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_01]: So, makes me a little nervous.
[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So, he's going to have to play through it.
[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of guys playing.
[00:09:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's players all throughout baseball that play through a ton of injuries during the season.
[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't even want to know the laundry list of things that Cal Raleigh is playing through.
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: You're right.
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: As he does every year.
[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_00]: But he's playing through it.
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_00]: So, for Robles, he's just going to have to find a way to play through it because it doesn't sound like they're going to IL him.
[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't sound like 10 days off his feet is just going to fix everything.
[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So, if that's true, he's just going to have to find a way to fight through this injury like a lot of players do.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be easy, but he's going to have to find a way to do it because he has, for all the right reasons, played himself into a role where the Mariners are relying on him.
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And they need him.
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_00]: So, he's going to have to find a way to fight through the injury.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes, though, it will still deteriorate even Cal's performance.
[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_01]: As tough as he is, we'll see the impact that injuries will take on him fatigue-wise and all.
[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: So, let's hope that's not the same for Robles.
[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's hope he can find a way to look healthy with his play down the stretch.
[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It might lead him to more off-taste, but thankfully, the Mariners now will have, you know, they have Randy.
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_01]: They have a right-handed hitting corner outfielder who's a stud who hits well.
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And Julio's coming back as well.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_01]: You can manage that.
[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_01]: So, that's good.
[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I know we're going to get to our mailbag here in just a minute.
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_00]: On a more positive note here, can we spend a minute talking about the positives of Victor Robles and the positives of Jorge Polanco here?
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Because we haven't really had a chance to do it in weeks.
[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_00]: We've had so many specified episodes that we've had to hit on over the last couple weeks between the draft shows and having Joe on to break down the Mariners draft class.
[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And the trade deadlines and Randy and everything.
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_00]: All of that kind of taking center stage in place of two guys who are very deserving of some real, real credit for what they've done.
[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think everybody knows what Victor Robles has now meant to the Mariners, especially over the last month, where the guy's got a 950 OPS.
[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's real.
[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_00]: He looks like the top five prospect he was once supposed to be all of a sudden.
[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But Jorge Polanco, man, like he was to this fan base.
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_00]: And at one point it felt like to the team, too, with how little he was playing, felt dead in the water with him for at one point.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It felt like maybe he wasn't going to be on the roster after the deadline.
[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, fast forward to now, Polanco, since about the 10th of July, has turned everything around.
[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Last two weeks, he's OPSing about 850.
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's been awesome.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, they need this guy down the stretch.
[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_00]: You want to talk about finding more sources of offense.
[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And if Robles is going to be a little bit hampered, if Cal's playing through injuries, Julio's going to be playing through an injury.
[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Polanco's dealing with injuries in his own right.
[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But you want to talk about a guy that's really done a 180 on his season?
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_00]: He looks like the guy now that they traded for.
[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And we're eventually going to hear a cliche joke that it's almost like they added a third bat at the deadline with Jorge Polanco.
[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to hear it.
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_01]: We are going to hear it.
[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Even if it's not technically true, I think we'll hear it.
[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's important because they need guys to hit at the top of the lineup.
[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Especially with JP and Julio out.
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Especially with JP out.
[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_01]: They need some production in the infield.
[00:12:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, up and down.
[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's nice that Justin Turner's come back in.
[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And they trade for Justin Turner.
[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_01]: He's your first base slash DH.
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to give you a little bit of production.
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, even pre-trade deadline, at this point we were looking at Dylan Moore slash Leo Rivas at shortstop.
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Dylan Moore's actually been okay.
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Demo's a little bit streaky.
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_01]: He's been streaky his whole career.
[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_01]: But right now, he's in the midst of more of a good streak offensively.
[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: But Josh Rojas at third has really struggled offensively.
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Had a good road trip.
[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: But overall, since May rolled around, has been dreadful offensively.
[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So the Mariners needed to find some way to get some offensive production out of their infield.
[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And they've got some at second base, thankfully.
[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_01]: From both sides of the plate, he's been...
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Polanco's just starting to show a little bit
[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_01]: why the Mariners traded for him.
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And not that...
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And that he perhaps isn't washed.
[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a chance he's not.
[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_01]: He's still got two whole months left to go.
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_01]: He could turn around and have an atrocious August.
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And we do back to square one.
[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope not.
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners sure hope not.
[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Because they can't afford to have him while J.P. Crawford is out
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_01]: to have an atrocious August.
[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to have to be the offensive driver on the infield.
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_01]: They're going to need some position on the infield
[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_01]: to have some sort of anchor offensively.
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And right now, it's got to be him.
[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Showed it on his road trip.
[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_01]: He's hitting the ball over the fence.
[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Spraying the ball around.
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It's nice to see.
[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Even in the more boomer way of talking about baseball.
[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Someone to sit up there and drive in runs.
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_01]: When Robles is on in front of you.
[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And Randy's on in front of you.
[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Someone to drive in runs and not strike out.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It's nice.
[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_00]: He's had about a 140 WRC plus since around the 10th of July.
[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_00]: That's the guy they traded for.
[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_00]: That's more than the guy they traded for.
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, I don't know if that keeps up the entire second half.
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But if it does, there's your infield production.
[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_00]: He's doing it right now from both sides of the plate, too.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_00]: So his defense is never going to be great.
[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_00]: We know he's still battling through some injuries.
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_00]: But if he can keep hitting, that makes a very, very drastic difference.
[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Is there anyone on the Mariners right now not hurt?
[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Anybody?
[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Randy?
[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, probably Randy.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_01]: The rotation?
[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Probably just Randy.
[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_00]: The rotation?
[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're doing okay.
[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I think.
[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_01]: They haven't admitted anything.
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's good.
[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, except for Brian Wu.
[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I will note, just confirming this,
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Jorge Polanco since July 9th has a 21% K rate.
[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Look at that.
[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_01]: 21%.
[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And we were sitting here puzzled why the heck he was striking out 31% of the time early on in the season.
[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Made no sense.
[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_01]: This is more Jorge Polanco.
[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: A 20% strikeout rate, an 8% walk rate.
[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_01]: The WRC Plus is not going to sustain itself.
[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: That sample I chose, it was 152.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to stay that way.
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, 120 with those rates?
[00:15:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Still pretty good.
[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Still pretty valuable.
[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And still what the Mariners gave up, you know, guys like Justin Topa for to improve offensively this season.
[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It's funny when guys actually play like they're supposed to.
[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_01]: This offense works.
[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it does.
[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_00]: And as a result, they scored 40 runs across five games.
[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully when they come home, long home stretch coming up, they can take advantage of it.
[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Even playing some good teams.
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, you get Randy and Justin Turner playing at home for the first time.
[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_00]: You get this Jorge Polanco who's really swinging it well.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_00]: You get Julio back.
[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's got a chance to be back this weekend, they say.
[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_00]: You get him back.
[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_00]: You, you know, Cal keeps hitting.
[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it the 10 days this weekend?
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_00]: What's that?
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Is it the 10 days this weekend?
[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I heard something that he might, that he has a chance to be back this weekend.
[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But we'll see.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: So I hope so.
[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope so.
[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_01]: That'd be nice.
[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_01]: It'd be nice to get Julio back and then get this guy on track in August too.
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Please.
[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Could do a whole lot.
[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he just needed a breather, a breather on the sideline.
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Before we get to our mailbag, I would just want to note a couple of things.
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_01]: One, Launa will both, I'll be back up in Seattle this weekend.
[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Launa will both be at the ballpark all three days versus the Phillies.
[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to a game, come say hello.
[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Come say hello to us.
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Best time to do it.
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_01]: We usually go out to the pen an hour before the game.
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_01]: For the hour before to start a game time, we try and get out to the pen.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to, you want to find us, say hello.
[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_01]: That'll be the best spot to track us down.
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: You can also shoot us a DM too.
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And we're reachable by there.
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see it.
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll come.
[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll, we'll, we'll be walking around too.
[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you see us, make sure to come flag us down.
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And second thing, in case you forgot and missed it, Launa are hosting Brock and Salk when this
[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_01]: episode comes out on Friday.
[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you're listening to this between six and 10, you could also go and listen to us on
[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_01]: the radio as well, hosting Brock and Salk from six to 10.
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So please go check that out.
[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_01]: If you can't listen live, go listen to the podcast version of that.
[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: It would, it would mean a lot to us.
[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_00]: We're fired up about it.
[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_00]: We're, we've done it once.
[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_00]: We're excited to do it a second time.
[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_00]: We've got another good ranked planned.
[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I think we've got a bunch of fun segments planned.
[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_00]: So we're excited now that there's Seahawks training camp in full swing.
[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_00]: They're actually going to have us talk some football too.
[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So we're mostly going to do Mariners.
[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Like that's, that's probably why we're there for the most part, but we're going to do a
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_00]: little bit of both.
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_00]: So you can hear us talk about both.
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_00]: We, we are not a one trick pony, even though maybe by tuning in this podcast, you might think
[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_00]: that.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Quick side shows.
[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you know Smith, a top 10 quarterback in the NFL?
[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So not quite, but not far off.
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a hot take.
[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm kidding.
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_01]: You get some pushback about that.
[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_00]: He's good.
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_00]: He's good.
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And okay.
[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's your warmup.
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_01]: That's your warmup for Friday.
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations.
[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you're not there pregame and just want to meet up during the game at some point
[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_00]: again, like we'll, we'll be walking around at some points and you can send us a DM,
[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_00]: all that stuff.
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_00]: So, oh, and I'm sure we'll do it.
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we'll be doing fan questions out in the pen too.
[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to hop on the mic, there's your open invite.
[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Bring some ideas.
[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get inside.
[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's, let's get to the mailbag in a second here.
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Before that, let's take a pause.
[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk to you guys about our friends over at Pagotchis Pub 85.
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're not going to the games this weekend and you want a place to go watch, you can head
[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_00]: over there, grab your friends, plan an outing.
[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_00]: There's 20 TVs in that place.
[00:18:55] [SPEAKER_00]: You can watch the Mariners or any other sporting events that are going to be on.
[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you want some great drink specials along with some awesome food, well, there's
[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_00]: awesome food regardless, but drink specials.
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Monday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m.
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Happy hour.
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Drinks are $3 and $4.
[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, $3 and $4.
[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Those are good deals.
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_00]: So all of that is over at Pagotchis Pub 85 in Kirkland.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: All right, mailbag.
[00:19:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to the mailbag.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with a question from typical underscore Ethan on Instagram.
[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And the question is, seriously, is it worth moving the walls in at T-Mobile Park?
[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Pros and cons of doing that.
[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Pros, it would certainly help the offense.
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Cons, this team is built on great starting pitching.
[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you move the fences in at T-Mobile Park, who's to say their home road splits don't all
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_00]: of a sudden become a little more even and they pitch a little more similarly to how they do
[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_00]: on the road?
[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_01]: How much would it really improve the offense?
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm curious.
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, really, how much do you think it would improve the offense?
[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so this is the thing.
[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not like this offense flies out to the warning track all the time.
[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_00]: No, they strike out a lot.
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_00]: They don't put the bat on the ball a lot.
[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know how much moving the fences in helps.
[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I think, if anything, the batter's eye needs to be changed.
[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And this question doesn't include that.
[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So we're not touching the batter's eye.
[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_01]: It's only the fences.
[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not sure, really, how much this actually helps your offense.
[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: All I think this does is piss off your pitchers.
[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?
[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Your pitchers are the best part of your team.
[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_01]: So as of right now, yeah, I think the biggest con would be keeping Logan Gilbert, George
[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Kirby, Luis Castillo, Bryce Miller, Brian Wu happy.
[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And your bullpen.
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And keep the fences right where they are.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_01]: They already moved the fences in a decade ago.
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_01]: If you look at the dimensions of T-Mobile Park, they're very normal.
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_01]: They're normal dimensions.
[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_01]: They're about as standard dimensions as you can have in Major League Baseball.
[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_01]: So moving the fences in, I don't think would have the effect you would want it to on the
[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners offense.
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Because guess what?
[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_01]: They moved the fences in to improve the Mariners offense.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Was it 2013?
[00:21:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Here we are 11 years later, and the offense still stinks.
[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember how crazy those dimensions used to be at T-Mobile Park?
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_00]: It was 388 to left center, where you see the 376 sign now.
[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_00]: It was 388.
[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure that was the longest distance out to a gap that you can find in baseball
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_00]: aside from...
[00:21:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Where's the really long left center field?
[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_00]: There is one in baseball.
[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm blanking on where it is right now.
[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_01]: In left center?
[00:21:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Pirates?
[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_00]: That one's pretty long.
[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_01]: That's mostly center field.
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, point being, left center was very, very far at T-Mobile Park.
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Paired with, the marine layer still existed back then.
[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And balls would not fly.
[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, the dimensions now are pretty normal.
[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_00]: But it still doesn't change the fact that I don't know if moving the fences in more really
[00:22:01] [SPEAKER_00]: does that much.
[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Because this is a team built on pitching.
[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And this offense, again, they're not flying out to the track.
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_00]: They're striking out.
[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_01]: So, this question made me think about the Mariners Park factor.
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you realize it's actually gone down again?
[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_01]: It's now at 91.
[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_00]: How?
[00:22:18] Yeah.
[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_01]: That's absurdly low.
[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I think the next highest one's 96.
[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Next lowest one is 96.
[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_01]: That's insane.
[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's, that's bigger, that's a bigger difference, I believe.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll double check it.
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_01]: But I believe it's a bigger difference between Coors Field, which is the number one offensive
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_01]: park, and Fenway, which is number two.
[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_00]: So, it's just crazy that Seattle is that much tougher to hit at than Oracle, which is also
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: a very long left center field fence.
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But Oracle, like, you're closer to the water at Oracle Park than you are at T-Mobile Park,
[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_00]: yet somehow it's a more hitter-friendly park.
[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how that works.
[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Actually, and the dimensions are tougher, I think, at Oracle Park.
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_01]: They are.
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So, the difference in park factor is actually the same.
[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So, the Mariner, T-Mobile Park's as much of an outlier for offensive suppression as
[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Coors Field is.
[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So, as the difference between one and two, and then 29 and 30, when it comes to park factor.
[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm assuming San Francisco's 29?
[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I closed it.
[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me look.
[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I know the Padres are down.
[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Guardians are actually second to last.
[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Really?
[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So, where's Oracle Park?
[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Oracle Park is 28th.
[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_01]: The Rays are 29th.
[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there's 31 parks, by the way.
[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_01]: They have London in here.
[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wait.
[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Hang on.
[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_00]: The Rays are 29th?
[00:23:42] [SPEAKER_00]: You said the Guardians are 29th.
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Guardians are 30th.
[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_00]: They have London in here, too.
[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_01]: So, there's 31 parks.
[00:23:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
[00:23:49] [SPEAKER_01]: The Mets are 26th.
[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Padres, 27th.
[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Giants, 28th.
[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Rays, 29th.
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Guardians, 30th.
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners, 31th.
[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Just crazy.
[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Because, again, like, they're, like, Oracle doesn't have a roof.
[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It's even more open than T-Mobile.
[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, there are barricades a little bit in Seattle at T-Mobile Park that might keep a little bit of wind out.
[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Not a lot, but a little bit.
[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, in Wright Field, for example, right?
[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, that roof's there.
[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It's big.
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas, Oracle Park, it's so much more open.
[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And they are right next to the water.
[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, closer than T-Mobile Park.
[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's just the wind, though.
[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the climate.
[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the air.
[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the density of the air.
[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess that's part of it.
[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Although, like, San Francisco, again, like, it's not friendly weather.
[00:24:39] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Here's a funny story.
[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_00]: My family and I went to a game.
[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I want to say I was 10 or 11 years old.
[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_00]: It's the only time I've been to Oracle Park, and I want to get back.
[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It was 49 degrees at first pitch in August.
[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_00]: No joke.
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_00]: It was that cold in the summer in San Francisco, which is why I'm just that baffled by the fact
[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_00]: that Seattle's that much tougher to hit at than San Francisco.
[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And this is baffling, too, because the last two seasons, the Mariners have had a top,
[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_01]: not this year, the last two seasons before this by WRC Plus, the Mariners have been a
[00:25:13] [SPEAKER_01]: top 11 offense.
[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So they've hit fine, but this is still the worst park to hit in in baseball.
[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Just it's flabbergasting.
[00:25:21] [SPEAKER_01]: You know how if you want the Mariners to improve their offensive environment, they'd have to
[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_01]: play in a dome.
[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_01]: That's how they fix it.
[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_01]: That's literally the only way you change what is going on right now.
[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_00]: But then that comes all the way back to the original question where that doesn't help your
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_00]: pitching.
[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So nope, I would rather keep it the way it is right now.
[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I agree because I think you can just play to the strength.
[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think you can.
[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_01]: So I think you can build a good enough offense to score enough runs and you don't need to
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_01]: be the best offense in baseball.
[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_01]: You need to be the 15th to the 10th best offense in baseball and you will be just
[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_01]: fine.
[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_01]: You want to know?
[00:25:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I was curious about this.
[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_01]: The top five offenses in baseball all play in parks with a park factor below 100.
[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_01]: All five.
[00:26:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Yankees, Dodgers, Orioles, Mets, Padres.
[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Speaks to how good a lot of those offenses are.
[00:26:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But as you can see, the park factor, while closer to 100 than the Mariners, is still below
[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_01]: average in terms of a run scoring environment and it does not affect them at all.
[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So you're right.
[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And they don't move the fences in.
[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Dodger Stadium's a pitcher's park.
[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Yankee Stadium, depending on which direction you hit the ball, has its pluses and minuses
[00:26:38] [SPEAKER_01]: as an offensive park.
[00:26:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Baltimore turned into a pitcher's park for at least right-handed hitters.
[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Right-handed hitters.
[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_01]: The Mets don't play in a small park.
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_01]: They move their fences in, but still it's not a small ballpark.
[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And neither is the Padres.
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Padres famously have a pitcher's park about the same dimensions as the M's.
[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter.
[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_01]: They still score.
[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I think all in all here, leave it because you got to favor your pitchers.
[00:27:05] [SPEAKER_00]: That's your strength.
[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be your strength for a while too.
[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_00]: So that's just how it is.
[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Second question here.
[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_00]: This is from Jacob V. Mayer on Instagram.
[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_00]: And he says, build your perfect ballpark.
[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Example, Green Monster, Wrigley Ivy, M's Location, Oracle Sunset View, etc.
[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_01]: How much criteria did you use for this?
[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_01]: How many different boxes did you check?
[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you want me to go through my list?
[00:27:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let me throw mine out first and I'll see what you think about this.
[00:27:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Location of the ballpark.
[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Like where relatively it is, I chose Wrigley's location because I think Wrigley is the best
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_01]: location in all of baseball.
[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's so cool.
[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_01]: I have the dimensions of Great American Ballpark because who doesn't have fun watching a game
[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_01]: at Great American Ballpark?
[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I know I do.
[00:28:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And watching this team, I think it would be a lot more fun watching them at Great American
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Ballpark.
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_01]: The layout of the stadium is T-Mobile Park.
[00:28:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The roof on the stadium is T-Mobile Park.
[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_01]: The ushers.
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm choosing Wrigley's ushers because when we went there, we didn't get any issues from
[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Wrigley ushers at all.
[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is very refreshing.
[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Different than some other parks.
[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_01]: The food.
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_01]: T-Mobile Park.
[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I have one more stipulation for this ballpark.
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners are not allowed to play there for my own sanity.
[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_00]: That's a good list of criteria you gave there.
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I did a little bit less, but I like it.
[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I did think about the location thing in terms of what would be a fun place to be.
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought about Wrigley.
[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually glad I didn't pick it so we have some different answers.
[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_00]: The location.
[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I actually picked Philly for this because the stadium district in Philly, it's all right
[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_00]: there.
[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_00]: All the stadiums for all the pro sports teams are right next to each other.
[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, yes, the Seahawks and Mariners are right next to each other, but the Kraken and soon
[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_00]: to be Sonics don't play close by.
[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_00]: In Philly, everybody plays close by.
[00:29:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that there's an Xfinity Live in Philly, like how we talked about how cool
[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Texas Live was, how it's right next to the ballpark.
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It's where everybody goes after games.
[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_00]: It's got all these different restaurants and bars.
[00:29:27] [SPEAKER_00]: They have that in Philly.
[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think Philly's is even more fun than Dallas's, Arlington's.
[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I picked Philly for the location, but like Jacob, who asked the question here, I picked
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Oracle Park's view because it's gorgeous.
[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I picked San Diego's weather.
[00:29:43] [SPEAKER_00]: That would be nice.
[00:29:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I picked T-Mobile's dimensions like you.
[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm sorry.
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I said I jumped into the future and said technology got so good and we bend the rules where it's
[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_00]: the T-Mobile dimensions for when the Mariners are pitching and it's the Minute Maid Park dimensions
[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_00]: for when the Mariners are hitting.
[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_00]: So when the Mariners hit, they get the Crawford boxes and the short right field porch too.
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_00]: But everybody else has to deal with Seattle dimensions.
[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_00]: So I did that.
[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_00]: And then, oh, I also had T-Mobile Park's roof because build a roof on your stadium, period.
[00:30:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_00]: I like it.
[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I like it.
[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_00]: What did I leave out that you had?
[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you didn't.
[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have anything in there about the ushers or the food.
[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, T-Mobile Park's food is pretty amazing.
[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'd need to have more food at more parks, but no park has the diversity of food that
[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_01]: T-Mobile Park does.
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_01]: No.
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_01]: If they do, I haven't tried it slash been to the park enough to try all of them.
[00:30:42] Right.
[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, Yankee Stadium's got some things that are, you know, on people's bucket list, right?
[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the Judge Burger.
[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Although that's like $100, right?
[00:30:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it is.
[00:30:52] [SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not.
[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_01]: No.
[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, I think it's like $25.
[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_01]: They only make, well, at first they only made 99 of them.
[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_01]: And now I think they sell unlimited or however much they have.
[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Got it.
[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, so there's some things like that at other ballparks that can be iconic things to try.
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Everybody talks about the Dodger Dogs at Dodger Stadium, although I've heard some people
[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_00]: say they're actually not that good.
[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'd have to try it for ourselves.
[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I've never been to Dodger Stadium.
[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_00]: So whenever I get there, I'll have to give it a shot.
[00:31:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I don't know if Seattle really has anything like that, but the diversity of food
[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_00]: for sure.
[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Like everybody who goes to the ballpark and wants ballpark food has something to pick
[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_00]: from.
[00:31:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So that's nice.
[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Now I wouldn't choose Yankee Stadium food because like everything in the ballpark, it's
[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_01]: just so corporate.
[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Just know like, what's the right word?
[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Flavor.
[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Flavor.
[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The Mets are the blue collar team of New York.
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_00]: The Yankees are the corporate team.
[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, 100% certainly.
[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_01]: So I like our stadiums.
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Where was your location?
[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I said Philly.
[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you said right, right, right, right.
[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Works out.
[00:32:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Because it's, again, it's right next to everything.
[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
[00:32:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to our next question here on Instagram.
[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_01]: This is coming from Chase on Instagram.
[00:32:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And his question is, who do we target this free agency?
[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Can we start with the obvious?
[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Please.
[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me count you down.
[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Three, two, one.
[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Juan Soto.
[00:32:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, do I think this is going to happen?
[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_00]: This isn't like the Kyle Tucker thing because that's happening.
[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, the Juan Soto thing is probably a pipe dream.
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_00]: That being said, if I were the Mariners, I would outbid every team by $100 million for Juan Soto this winter.
[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm serious about that.
[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I am not somebody that sits up here and says, every big name free agent, worth it.
[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I was no proponent of giving Xander Bogarts an 11, 12-year contract.
[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I was no proponent of the idea of giving Cody Bellinger 10 to 12 years when that idea was being floated out this winter.
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Never.
[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Because some of these guys and these contracts are not worth it.
[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_00]: But you will not find a better free agent in the next five free agent classes at least.
[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It could be more than that than Juan Soto.
[00:33:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Not a better bat, that's for sure.
[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And he is 26 years old.
[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_00]: How often do you find guys that debut at 19 like he does?
[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_00]: There are good guys that will debut at 21.
[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Gunner, Julio, Bobby Witt.
[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Not 19.
[00:33:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And Juan Soto is going to hit free agency as a 26-year-old.
[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_00]: You could give that guy a 13-year deal.
[00:33:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And he might be good for all 13.
[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Because when he gets to be 38, 39 years old, he still might be putting up a 115, 120 WRC+.
[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Because he is that good a bat.
[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And he walks that much.
[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_00]: If I were the Mariners, I would outbid every team by $100 million for Juan Soto.
[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Because he's worth it.
[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And that contract won't pay for itself quite like Shohei's will.
[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's close.
[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It will pay for a lot of it.
[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Here, so let's do some negotiations for Juan Soto here.
[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_01]: So we'll start at $700 million.
[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I will also, as part of the Seattle tax to get people all the way up here to the Pacific Northwest,
[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I will also name Juan Soto principal owner of Root Sports.
[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations, Juan.
[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_01]: This is a wonderful, wonderful company that you get to take over with some fantastic people working for it.
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_01]: You get to run and you get to make all those cable television dollars.
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations.
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm also, Juan Soto, giving you a cut of all of the profits from the boxyard across the street from the stadium.
[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give you, let's say, 5% of everything sold, all the profits made on the boxyard,
[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm giving to Juan Soto.
[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you mean the hatback?
[00:35:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that sounds like a pretty good deal.
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you mean the hatback when you say the boxyard?
[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's the whole, all the rest, the whole area is called the boxyard.
[00:35:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Got you.
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to shortchange him on only give him 5% of profits from one of the places.
[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to give him all three.
[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Actually, I was thinking by him just signing a contract with the Seattle Mariners,
[00:35:24] [SPEAKER_00]: he immediately gets a key to the city.
[00:35:25] [SPEAKER_00]: How's that?
[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_01]: But what does he get a key to?
[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, what does he get?
[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm offering him cash.
[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_00]: But you've already offered him so much.
[00:35:35] [SPEAKER_00]: This is an addition.
[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_00]: It's showing Seattle's gratitude already.
[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_00]: The Yankees can offer him whatever they want.
[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Are they offering him a key to New York City?
[00:35:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So let's get him a box and season tickets for the Seahawks.
[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_01]: That'll be a good start when he's not playing.
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Want him to be comfortable, integrated into his new city.
[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_01]: What else do we get him?
[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_00]: How about season tickets to the Mariners in a suite for any family and friends that ever
[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_00]: want to come and see him play?
[00:36:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, yep.
[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And Diamond Club, depending on what they want.
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, so many more things.
[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll give him a boat too.
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_01]: How about that?
[00:36:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he'll probably be living in Bellevue Medina anyway.
[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_00]: So sure, he can have a boat.
[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:36:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's just help him out.
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Help him out a little bit.
[00:36:21] [SPEAKER_00]: We got connections.
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Listen, when we say we'll overpay Juan Soto by $100 million, we say that because that's
[00:36:27] [SPEAKER_00]: what it would take to get him to Seattle.
[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_00]: For example, if the Yankees offer Juan Soto a $600 million contract in free agency, how
[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_00]: are the Mariners going to beat that?
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_00]: They can't offer him $605 million and beat it.
[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_00]: You just can't.
[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_00]: You need to significantly outbid every team.
[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_00]: And he is worth outbidding for.
[00:36:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Most of these free agents aren't worth it.
[00:36:48] [SPEAKER_00]: You've heard me bang the drum for two.
[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_00]: And I will keep it that way.
[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Shohei, last offseason I said every penny's worth it.
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Juan Soto, it's the same thing.
[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Every penny's worth it.
[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_00]: And there's not going to be free agents in most other classes that I'd say that about.
[00:37:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Listen, I'm a Kyle Tucker guy through and through.
[00:37:08] [SPEAKER_00]: He needs to be a Mariner.
[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be.
[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_00]: However, if he were to hit free agency, if the Mariners haven't traded and extended him
[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_00]: already before he actually gets to free agency, I don't think I'd sit there and say he's
[00:37:21] [SPEAKER_00]: worth $700 million at 31 years old.
[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Juan Soto is worth that.
[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Is the actual value to player $700 million?
[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not quite.
[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_00]: But if you want to get him to Seattle, that is.
[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's still worth every penny.
[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Every single penny.
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And remember, you're going to have to pay a percentage more than everybody else just
[00:37:44] [SPEAKER_01]: because where you play.
[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_01]: How much time you spend on a plane.
[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_01]: How, as we just talked about at the beginning of this mailbag, this place is really difficult
[00:37:54] [SPEAKER_01]: to hit in.
[00:37:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Really difficult.
[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And Juan Soto, you know, when he hits a ball to the warning track in April, is probably
[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_01]: going to be pissed.
[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But you make him richer to not think about that.
[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_01]: That's fine with me.
[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_00]: How about this?
[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_00]: If Juan Soto somehow signed with Seattle and became a 110 WRC plus hitter for his career,
[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_00]: you're building a dome.
[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Because if he can't hit here, nobody can.
[00:38:20] Yeah.
[00:38:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Blow up the stadium just like they did the kingdom.
[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_01]: We're rebuilding the kingdom.
[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Nicer though.
[00:38:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_01]: No, way nicer.
[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_01]: But there are some other free agents we can talk about here.
[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Juan Soto is the obvious one.
[00:38:33] [SPEAKER_01]: If the Mariners get the opportunity to sign Juan Soto, they absolutely should.
[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_01]: But there are other needs on this team too.
[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think there's the most pressing need at first base.
[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_01]: There's some good ones available.
[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_00]: There are some good ones.
[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Last five seconds on Juan Soto.
[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_00]: They have the money for it.
[00:38:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just whether they choose to spend it.
[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_00]: So spend it.
[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_00]: First base.
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I would be shocked if one of these four first basemen, honestly, is not in a Seattle uniform
[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_00]: next year.
[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Two of them could be trades who we just talked about on our last episode.
[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Vladdy, Yanni Diaz.
[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's possible.
[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_00]: But if it's not them, I would say it's two guys that Mariners fans have spent a decent
[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_00]: amount of time this year talking about who they thought they could trade for as a rental.
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Who will instead be a free agent this winter?
[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Pete Alonzo.
[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Christian Walker.
[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So of those four guys, Alonzo, Walker, Vladdy, Yanni.
[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Bet you one of those guys finds his way into a Mariners uniform.
[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And in terms of the free agents, Walker is having more success right now this year.
[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Pete's also younger.
[00:39:35] [SPEAKER_00]: He'll probably cost more.
[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_00]: But either of them are good fits.
[00:39:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_01]: All of the above.
[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't.
[00:39:44] [SPEAKER_01]: This isn't a tough decision.
[00:39:45] [SPEAKER_01]: You take which one's available to you at this point.
[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I think Vladdy would be the number one option.
[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But if Vladdy inks a $300 million extension with the Blue Jays in the offseason, that's going
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_01]: to be a little difficult to pull off.
[00:39:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So then you pivot to what would be required.
[00:40:00] [SPEAKER_01]: But whether it be prospects or cash, it doesn't matter.
[00:40:02] [SPEAKER_01]: No.
[00:40:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter.
[00:40:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Do which everyone says yes, you sign them.
[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_01]: No.
[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Because that is the state of the Mariners' first base position next year.
[00:40:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_01]: You get someone to say yes.
[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But there are other needs too, Lyle, that could really help the Mariners around the infield.
[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_01]: At second base, I mean, Brandon Lyle has a...
[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_01]: It's unlikely.
[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how the Rays feel about $10.5 million.
[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like if they had a million dollar contract on the books at this point, they wouldn't want
[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_01]: to pay it.
[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_01]: But Brandon Lyle has a club option for $10.5.
[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_01]: He could be a free agent.
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_01]: He could not.
[00:40:36] [SPEAKER_01]: So depending on how the Mariners see their roster next season, if he was a free agent,
[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_01]: they could think he's an option.
[00:40:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners also might have a need at third base next season.
[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Willie Adamas could slide over and play third base.
[00:40:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Hasn't played third base as a big leaguer, but I think if you pay him enough money, he
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: could.
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: He usually plays more up the middle.
[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Or you could sign him and have someone else currently on your roster play third base.
[00:41:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Alex Bregman, if you feel like that could work based on where he had played in the past.
[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And you can make the price work.
[00:41:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I think you would fit offensively.
[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Matt Chapman, someone who the Mariners wanted to trade for a couple years ago, is now going
[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_01]: to be a free agent this offseason.
[00:41:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So that could work.
[00:41:19] [SPEAKER_01]: All those guys could work.
[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And then the outfield.
[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll let you do the outfielders.
[00:41:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Chapman's always interesting.
[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Because again, we talked about how polarizing his batted ball profile can be.
[00:41:30] [SPEAKER_00]: But he's had a solid year.
[00:41:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see if he opts out in San Francisco or not.
[00:41:33] [SPEAKER_00]: But that'll be interesting.
[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll get to the outfield in a second.
[00:41:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But just to respond to the guys you listed off.
[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you feel like the Rays might pick up Lau's option just so they can make sure to get
[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_00]: something back for him?
[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Because Lau actually has a couple club options in that contract.
[00:41:48] [SPEAKER_00]: So if somebody were to trade for Lau, they would have some club control.
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Would the Rays say, OK, let's pick this up because somebody will trade for him and we
[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_00]: can get something back?
[00:41:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think of that.
[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So yes, that is what the Rays are going to do.
[00:41:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:42:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I could almost guarantee that now.
[00:42:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:42:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Because $10.5 million is not that much.
[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they could pick it up and not pay any of it.
[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Pick it up and then trade him.
[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_00]: So that may happen.
[00:42:11] [SPEAKER_01]: If he was available, I'd still trade for him.
[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Same.
[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But outfielders, well, Victor Robles is one.
[00:42:18] [SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be a free agent.
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And we talked about that the other day.
[00:42:20] [SPEAKER_00]: We don't think he should cost that much.
[00:42:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you're the Mariners, you brought him back on some demo type of contract.
[00:42:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Three years, $9 million.
[00:42:28] [SPEAKER_00]: You should do it.
[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Because either you get a great deal out of it, or if he really doesn't play well, then
[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not that much money to lose to let him go anyway or trade him somewhere else.
[00:42:38] [SPEAKER_00]: So that's one.
[00:42:39] [SPEAKER_00]: But guys, outside the organization, we said Anthony Santander.
[00:42:44] [SPEAKER_00]: That would be awesome.
[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_00]: He is lighting the world on fire this year, especially with his bat.
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And then Max Kepler.
[00:42:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Santander sounds really good.
[00:42:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought he struck out more than he did.
[00:42:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It's only like 18%.
[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Just...
[00:42:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I can already picture it, Lyle.
[00:43:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Anthony Santander finishes the 2024 season with a 19% strikeout rate.
[00:43:07] [SPEAKER_01]: He comes to Seattle in 2025, gets paid a lot of money, and ends next year with a 28% strikeout rate.
[00:43:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, I thought you had the year wrong.
[00:43:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But you were saying, yeah, finish 24, then comes to Seattle in 25.
[00:43:22] Yeah.
[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_00]: After signing Juan Soto, who goes from striking out about 15% of the time also to 28% of the time.
[00:43:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll bump Juan up to 31.
[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Could you imagine?
[00:43:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Could you imagine Juan Soto?
[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I could!
[00:43:38] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like the one guy...
[00:43:39] [SPEAKER_00]: This franchise?
[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like the one guy where I can't imagine it.
[00:43:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, his approach and his discipline is actually just too good.
[00:43:46] [SPEAKER_01]: If he struck out 31% of the time, he's literally walking into an ownership board meeting and saying,
[00:43:53] [SPEAKER_01]: we gotta do something about that damn batter's eye.
[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Fix it right now.
[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what they would fix pretty fast?
[00:43:59] [SPEAKER_01]: The batter's eye.
[00:44:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they'd say, well, it costs $700 million for Juan Soto.
[00:44:05] [SPEAKER_00]: How much would it cost to fix a batter's eye?
[00:44:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Not that much.
[00:44:08] No.
[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_00]: A couple million dollars, right?
[00:44:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
[00:44:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And again, if that were the case, it's like, blow it up.
[00:44:17] Yeah.
[00:44:18] Yeah.
[00:44:21] [SPEAKER_00]: There's gonna be plenty of time for free agency talk moving forward, obviously, when the season ends too.
[00:44:26] [SPEAKER_00]: But I know everybody's already thinking about it.
[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_00]: We're now already thinking about it.
[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, it's a good question.
[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And again, like Lyle said, that'll be a good off-season topic.
[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'll let you get to your next question in a second.
[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Before we get to your question, let's hear a word from Game Time.
[00:44:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Summer is here, guys.
[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And that means it's time to get out to T-Mobile Park and watch the M's.

[00:45:04] [SPEAKER_01]: It's $45 to get in the door tonight.
[00:45:07] [SPEAKER_01]: It's $40 tomorrow and $40 on Sunday.
[00:45:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Prices have really jumped in the last week.
[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So you're gonna want to get on that before it's too late.
[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Get a panoramic view of your seat and toggle the all-in pricing feature

[00:45:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Terms apply.
[00:45:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Again, create an account and redeem code J-U-S-T-B-A-S-C-B-A-L-L-JustBASEBALL for $20 off.
[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Download the Game Time app today.
[00:45:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Last-minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed.
[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_00]: So the next question is from Ellie, who runs the account Trident Takeover on Instagram.
[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_00]: She always sends some good questions.
[00:45:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And she sends, who would you want to play a round of golf with?
[00:46:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Choose three players.
[00:46:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you and I have ever picked the same answer quicker than this.
[00:46:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So let me read off my three I would play with.
[00:46:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Gabe Spire, because he's our guy.
[00:46:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to spend a round of golf with Gabe Spire.
[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that would be a lot of fun.
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And then the two biggest personalities on the team, Taylor Saucedo and J.P. Crawford.
[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And then my note underneath all of this is that this is the easiest list of all time.
[00:46:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd say Sauce is also our guy too.
[00:46:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he is.
[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_00]: To put it in that same category.
[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_00]: But I'll tell you what.
[00:46:48] [SPEAKER_00]: You're not walking away empty-handed from that round.
[00:46:50] [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to have stories to take home with you after a round of golf with that group,
[00:46:56] [SPEAKER_00]: especially Sauce and J.P., who are now responsible for some of our most viral clips.
[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Or honestly, almost all of them.
[00:47:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Those guys are the only...
[00:47:05] [SPEAKER_01]: J.P. and Sauce are the only...
[00:47:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I think if I have my math...
[00:47:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Am I memories correct?
[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_01]: They're the only players who have eclipsed 200,000.
[00:47:16] [SPEAKER_00]: On Instagram for us.
[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Period.
[00:47:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, not including me talking about for the first time ever how Kyle Tucker was going to be a Mariner.
[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Is that over 200?
[00:47:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:47:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
[00:47:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:47:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Throw the hosts out.
[00:47:29] [SPEAKER_01]: External factors.
[00:47:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know...
[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_00]: For any of you who have not watched any of these recent J.P. Crawford clips,
[00:47:38] [SPEAKER_00]: you should go watch.
[00:47:39] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know what?
[00:47:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Let me take a moment here to say when you watch, be nice.
[00:47:44] [SPEAKER_00]: People online aren't nice.
[00:47:45] [SPEAKER_00]: And J.P.'s...
[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, J.P.'s awesome.
[00:47:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And you guys...
[00:47:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Everybody who listens to the podcast knows that.
[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_00]: All Mariners fans know that.
[00:47:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think he stands for all the right things.
[00:47:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I think everybody knows J.P.'s a really good person.
[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Which is why, when he's got a take,
[00:48:00] [SPEAKER_00]: like how we asked him how,
[00:48:02] [SPEAKER_00]: like, what type of conspiracies do you believe in?
[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Or like, what's one other you believe in besides aliens being real?
[00:48:08] [SPEAKER_00]: The reason we asked this question is he was on Mookie Betts' podcast last year.
[00:48:12] [SPEAKER_00]: He was talking about that.
[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, oh yeah, I'm convinced they're out there and they exist.
[00:48:16] [SPEAKER_00]: So...
[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And he mentioned on that podcast,
[00:48:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm into a lot of that stuff.
[00:48:20] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of conspiracy theory stuff.
[00:48:21] [SPEAKER_00]: So I kind of asked, like, what's another you believe in?
[00:48:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And he basically said, well,
[00:48:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Earth is kind of shaped like Asgard in Thor.
[00:48:30] [SPEAKER_00]: And that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Which, you know,
[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_00]: I really wish people could just take a little bit of a deep breath online
[00:48:38] [SPEAKER_00]: before deciding to just unleash on somebody.
[00:48:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Because again, I think we know J.P.'s a good dude.
[00:48:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:48:46] Well...
[00:48:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be honest.
[00:48:48] [SPEAKER_01]: That was the first time I'd ever heard that one.
[00:48:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Same.
[00:48:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Same.
[00:48:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was good.
[00:48:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it was creative.
[00:48:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I got it, like...
[00:48:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll certainly give J.P. that.
[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_00]: It was very, very creative.
[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Which is funny.
[00:49:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Even J.P. himself left a comment too.
[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, dude,
[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_00]: why is everybody so mad with a bunch of laughing emojis?
[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_00]: He is...
[00:49:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I said,
[00:49:12] [SPEAKER_00]: you will not walk away from that round of golf
[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_00]: without stories from that group.
[00:49:17] [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway,
[00:49:18] [SPEAKER_00]: if you have not seen that clip,
[00:49:20] [SPEAKER_00]: you should go watch it.
[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_00]: It's on all our social channels.
[00:49:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But also,
[00:49:24] [SPEAKER_00]: be nice.
[00:49:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Try to relax
[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and take a deep breath when you watch.
[00:49:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It's...
[00:49:28] [SPEAKER_00]: As we like to say,
[00:49:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it ain't that serious.
[00:49:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't have put it any better myself.
[00:49:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to our next mailbag question.
[00:49:37] [SPEAKER_01]: This comes from Brandon Stafford 25 on Instagram.
[00:49:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And his question is,
[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_01]: where will Victor Robles hit in the order
[00:49:44] [SPEAKER_01]: when J.P. and Julio come back?
[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Toward the top of the lineup.
[00:49:49] [SPEAKER_00]: He's earned that at this point.
[00:49:51] [SPEAKER_00]: He has to.
[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Again,
[00:49:53] [SPEAKER_00]: we mentioned it earlier in the show.
[00:49:55] [SPEAKER_00]: He's got a 950 OPS in his last 30 games.
[00:49:58] [SPEAKER_00]: He has to be hitting toward the top of the lineup.
[00:50:00] [SPEAKER_00]: This is roughly what I drew up
[00:50:02] [SPEAKER_00]: for when everybody's healthy,
[00:50:03] [SPEAKER_00]: including in September when J.P.'s back,
[00:50:05] [SPEAKER_00]: assuming Robles is still hitting in this scenario
[00:50:07] [SPEAKER_00]: and hitting well.
[00:50:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Looks something like this.
[00:50:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I said Robles, Julio,
[00:50:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Randy,
[00:50:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Cal,
[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Turner,
[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Polanco,
[00:50:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Garver,
[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Rojas,
[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_00]: J.P.
[00:50:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I put it like that.
[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_01]: J.P.
[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_01]: hitting 9th?
[00:50:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, okay.
[00:50:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Where do you want to put him instead?
[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Knowing Scott's service,
[00:50:26] [SPEAKER_01]: J.P.
[00:50:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Crawford's back in the leadoff spot.
[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Listen,
[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_00]: we just talked about how awesome J.P. is.
[00:50:32] [SPEAKER_00]: He is.
[00:50:32] [SPEAKER_00]: But now we're talking baseball here.
[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see J.P. get back to 2023 J.P.
[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_00]: and have a really good September when he gets back.
[00:50:41] [SPEAKER_00]: But right now,
[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not really happening.
[00:50:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And I agree.
[00:50:45] [SPEAKER_01]: My question is,
[00:50:46] [SPEAKER_01]: is that your lineup
[00:50:46] [SPEAKER_01]: or what you think Scott's service will do?
[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I guess that's what I drew up.
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_00]: What Scott will do,
[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know what?
[00:50:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Six weeks off your feet
[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_00]: is actually kind of a long time.
[00:50:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And if Robles is still hitting like this
[00:51:01] [SPEAKER_00]: and they're in a race for the playoffs
[00:51:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and for the division,
[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I think Scott's service would also say,
[00:51:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't ignore Victor Robles putting up a 900 OPS.
[00:51:11] [SPEAKER_00]: He needs more bats.
[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I still think there's a way to make this work though.
[00:51:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So when I think when J.P. comes back,
[00:51:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be in the leadoff spot
[00:51:20] [SPEAKER_01]: because he's been in the leadoff spot
[00:51:21] [SPEAKER_01]: since he started tearing it up last year.
[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think Scott's service trusts him quite a lot.
[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And he has a lot of the traits of a leadoff hitter,
[00:51:28] [SPEAKER_01]: even if his performance hasn't been up to par
[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_01]: with the bat this year.
[00:51:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it'll go something like this.
[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_01]: J.P. leading off,
[00:51:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Randy bats second,
[00:51:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Julio bats third,
[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Cal bats fourth,
[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Victor Robles bats fifth,
[00:51:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Justin Turner bats sixth,
[00:51:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Jorge Polanco bats seventh,
[00:51:43] [SPEAKER_01]: whoever's DH-ing bats eighth,
[00:51:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and Josh Rojas bats ninth.
[00:51:48] [SPEAKER_00]: That could work.
[00:51:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably honestly flip Turner and Robles
[00:51:51] [SPEAKER_00]: in that situation.
[00:51:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably have Turner hit five.
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah,
[00:51:56] [SPEAKER_00]: like close enough.
[00:51:57] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's also not a bad thing
[00:51:59] [SPEAKER_01]: that you have good hitters
[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_01]: hitting lower in your lineup.
[00:52:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Based on what we've watched this year,
[00:52:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I think having good hitters
[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_01]: anywhere in the lineup is a plus.
[00:52:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would agree.
[00:52:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I would agree.
[00:52:09] [SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Again,
[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_00]: that's probably how I would draw it up,
[00:52:13] [SPEAKER_00]: the lineup I wrote out,
[00:52:14] [SPEAKER_00]: but I'm not Scott service.
[00:52:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Scott might see something different
[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_00]: and want to do something different.
[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_00]: But it'll be a good problem to have
[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_01]: if he's sitting there
[00:52:22] [SPEAKER_01]: and legitimately thinking
[00:52:23] [SPEAKER_01]: if JP Crawford should still be
[00:52:25] [SPEAKER_01]: the leadoff hitter.
[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Right,
[00:52:27] [SPEAKER_00]: because that means Robles is still going off.
[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:52:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay,
[00:52:31] [SPEAKER_00]: next question.
[00:52:32] [SPEAKER_00]: This is from
[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Tav.Metcalf on Instagram.
[00:52:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Hardest prospect to see go.
[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Now,
[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm assuming by this question,
[00:52:40] [SPEAKER_00]: he is asking
[00:52:40] [SPEAKER_00]: if the Mariners were to make a trade
[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_00]: and part with a prospect,
[00:52:44] [SPEAKER_00]: who would be the toughest one
[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_00]: to see
[00:52:46] [SPEAKER_00]: be traded?
[00:52:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Be Colt Emerson
[00:52:49] [SPEAKER_01]: because of
[00:52:50] [SPEAKER_01]: A,
[00:52:51] [SPEAKER_01]: where he's currently ranked
[00:52:52] [SPEAKER_01]: by some outlets
[00:52:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and B,
[00:52:53] [SPEAKER_01]: the fact he's playing stateside.
[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_01]: He's playing in
[00:52:56] [SPEAKER_01]: affiliated ball stateside,
[00:52:58] [SPEAKER_01]: not at the complex league
[00:52:59] [SPEAKER_01]: like Felmin Selston is.
[00:53:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And Felmin could eventually
[00:53:02] [SPEAKER_01]: with his talent
[00:53:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and all this hype
[00:53:04] [SPEAKER_01]: that he's gotten
[00:53:04] [SPEAKER_01]: could pass Colt,
[00:53:06] [SPEAKER_01]: funny enough.
[00:53:07] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty incredible to say that,
[00:53:08] [SPEAKER_01]: but with the talent,
[00:53:09] [SPEAKER_01]: it's not
[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_01]: out of the question.
[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not 100%
[00:53:13] [SPEAKER_01]: that he'll never do that.
[00:53:14] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'd say,
[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_01]: you know,
[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I would say it's Colt.
[00:53:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Now,
[00:53:17] [SPEAKER_01]: if I'm going to flip this question around
[00:53:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and answer it
[00:53:20] [SPEAKER_01]: how I think I read it
[00:53:22] [SPEAKER_01]: when I answered this question,
[00:53:23] [SPEAKER_01]: if he were to ask
[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_01]: who is the hardest prospect
[00:53:26] [SPEAKER_01]: you have seen gone
[00:53:28] [SPEAKER_01]: like get traded
[00:53:30] [SPEAKER_01]: in the,
[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_01]: you know,
[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_01]: recent past,
[00:53:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I would say Noel V. Marte
[00:53:34] [SPEAKER_01]: because they could really
[00:53:35] [SPEAKER_01]: use him right now
[00:53:37] [SPEAKER_01]: on the infield.
[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Could they?
[00:53:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Castillo's been pretty awesome.
[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's worked.
[00:53:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I know he's suspended,
[00:53:44] [SPEAKER_01]: but if when he's
[00:53:45] [SPEAKER_01]: when he's not suspended,
[00:53:47] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:53:48] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:53:48] [SPEAKER_00]: he's not suspended anymore.
[00:53:50] [SPEAKER_00]: This is what I was going to ask you.
[00:53:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Have you taken a peek
[00:53:52] [SPEAKER_00]: at what Noel V's done this year
[00:53:54] [SPEAKER_00]: since coming back?
[00:53:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:53:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't.
[00:53:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Let me let me let you take a peek.
[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And when you look,
[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_00]: you can read to the fans
[00:54:00] [SPEAKER_00]: what he's up to.
[00:54:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh,
[00:54:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of scared now.
[00:54:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see.
[00:54:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes,
[00:54:06] [SPEAKER_00]: he plays third base,
[00:54:07] [SPEAKER_00]: but would you like to
[00:54:08] [SPEAKER_00]: enlighten the fans?
[00:54:09] [SPEAKER_00]: His numbers.
[00:54:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So I will say
[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_01]: it's only been 26 games,
[00:54:17] [SPEAKER_01]: but
[00:54:19] [SPEAKER_01]: yikes.
[00:54:21] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not been great.
[00:54:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Read aloud.
[00:54:25] [SPEAKER_01]: 505 OPS.
[00:54:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Almost negative one
[00:54:27] [SPEAKER_01]: win above replacement.
[00:54:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah,
[00:54:29] [SPEAKER_01]: not really good.
[00:54:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Lyle,
[00:54:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I think I was thinking
[00:54:32] [SPEAKER_01]: a little bit more
[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_01]: along the lines
[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_01]: of what he was doing
[00:54:34] [SPEAKER_01]: last year
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_01]: before he got suspended
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_01]: where he had a 316,
[00:54:37] [SPEAKER_01]: 366,
[00:54:39] [SPEAKER_01]: 456 slash line,
[00:54:40] [SPEAKER_01]: 822 OPS
[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_01]: in 35 games.
[00:54:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what
[00:54:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariner fans would miss,
[00:54:45] [SPEAKER_01]: not what he's doing
[00:54:46] [SPEAKER_01]: after a suspension
[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_01]: this year.
[00:54:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Now,
[00:54:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and you could say,
[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_01]: well,
[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_01]: he was,
[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_01]: he could have been,
[00:54:51] [SPEAKER_01]: he was juicing.
[00:54:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't argue that,
[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_01]: but
[00:54:55] [SPEAKER_01]: you know what?
[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_01]: As you and I have said
[00:54:57] [SPEAKER_01]: sometimes,
[00:54:59] [SPEAKER_01]: you know,
[00:55:01] [SPEAKER_01]: it's only,
[00:55:01] [SPEAKER_01]: A,
[00:55:02] [SPEAKER_01]: it's only cheating
[00:55:02] [SPEAKER_01]: if you get caught.
[00:55:03] [SPEAKER_01]: B,
[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_01]: you know,
[00:55:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners might have,
[00:55:06] [SPEAKER_01]: if had more people,
[00:55:07] [SPEAKER_01]: players cheating in the past,
[00:55:08] [SPEAKER_01]: they might have played
[00:55:09] [SPEAKER_01]: a little bit better.
[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Made the playoffs.
[00:55:12] [SPEAKER_00]: You're now endorsing
[00:55:13] [SPEAKER_00]: everybody who needs
[00:55:14] [SPEAKER_00]: to start juicing.
[00:55:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:55:15] [SPEAKER_00]: look at the results
[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_00]: otherwise.
[00:55:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Mariners have been
[00:55:18] [SPEAKER_00]: a clean franchise
[00:55:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and haven't done shit.
[00:55:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:55:22] [SPEAKER_00]: well,
[00:55:22] [SPEAKER_00]: they had Robbie,
[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_00]: they had Nelson Cruz.
[00:55:24] [SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
[00:55:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah,
[00:55:26] [SPEAKER_01]: that's true.
[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And still didn't make
[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_00]: the playoffs.
[00:55:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[00:55:31] [SPEAKER_01]: there you go.
[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I think,
[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah,
[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Noel was in the org
[00:55:33] [SPEAKER_01]: at the time.
[00:55:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
[00:55:35] [SPEAKER_00]: No,
[00:55:35] [SPEAKER_00]: no,
[00:55:35] [SPEAKER_00]: he was not in the org
[00:55:36] [SPEAKER_00]: when they made the playoffs.
[00:55:37] [SPEAKER_00]: 2018?
[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_00]: He was traded for Luis.
[00:55:39] [SPEAKER_01]: 2018 when everyone
[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_01]: was juicing?
[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:55:41] [SPEAKER_00]: he was just signed.
[00:55:43] [SPEAKER_01]: He'd just been signed.
[00:55:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:55:45] [SPEAKER_01]: But who knows
[00:55:45] [SPEAKER_01]: what he was doing then?
[00:55:47] [SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
[00:55:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway,
[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not really interested
[00:55:50] [SPEAKER_00]: in like a 37 WRC plus
[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_00]: hitting Noel V Marte
[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_00]: coming off of suspension
[00:55:54] [SPEAKER_00]: to be honest with you.
[00:55:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay,
[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_01]: then I'm thinking
[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_01]: of what he did last year.
[00:55:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But still,
[00:55:58] [SPEAKER_01]: among the best prospects
[00:55:59] [SPEAKER_01]: they have given up
[00:56:00] [SPEAKER_01]: recently,
[00:56:01] [SPEAKER_01]: he would be the one
[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_01]: you miss the most.
[00:56:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:56:04] [SPEAKER_00]: that part's true
[00:56:05] [SPEAKER_00]: because Edwin Arroyo
[00:56:06] [SPEAKER_00]: hasn't really done much
[00:56:07] [SPEAKER_00]: since he got traded,
[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_00]: which is funny.
[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_00]: when Edwin Arroyo
[00:56:10] [SPEAKER_00]: got traded,
[00:56:11] [SPEAKER_00]: there were people
[00:56:11] [SPEAKER_00]: starting to say
[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_00]: he might be the best prospect
[00:56:13] [SPEAKER_00]: in the Mariners organization
[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_00]: at that time.
[00:56:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Jeff Passan said that
[00:56:16] [SPEAKER_00]: on Brock and Salk,
[00:56:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I remember.
[00:56:17] [SPEAKER_00]: But he hasn't done
[00:56:18] [SPEAKER_00]: much since then.
[00:56:19] [SPEAKER_00]: He's not even really
[00:56:20] [SPEAKER_00]: a top 100 guy anymore.
[00:56:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And those pitchers
[00:56:22] [SPEAKER_01]: they traded,
[00:56:23] [SPEAKER_01]: like Mariners develop
[00:56:24] [SPEAKER_01]: pitching so unbelievably well.
[00:56:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Like,
[00:56:26] [SPEAKER_01]: you could get over
[00:56:27] [SPEAKER_01]: trading Brandon Williamson
[00:56:28] [SPEAKER_01]: and Connor Phillips.
[00:56:30] [SPEAKER_01]: But,
[00:56:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Noel V. Marte,
[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_01]: he was a top
[00:56:33] [SPEAKER_01]: international signee.
[00:56:34] [SPEAKER_01]: He was rated very highly
[00:56:36] [SPEAKER_01]: throughout the minor leagues.
[00:56:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And,
[00:56:37] [SPEAKER_01]: you know,
[00:56:38] [SPEAKER_01]: there's still hope
[00:56:39] [SPEAKER_01]: that he's going to be
[00:56:39] [SPEAKER_01]: a very solid big leaguer
[00:56:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and a very solid
[00:56:41] [SPEAKER_01]: hitting big leaguer.
[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Like,
[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_01]: remember,
[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_01]: he's young.
[00:56:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So,
[00:56:45] [SPEAKER_01]: he's got time.
[00:56:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:56:46] [SPEAKER_00]: he does.
[00:56:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Dude,
[00:56:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Connor Phillips got sent back
[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_00]: to the complex league
[00:56:50] [SPEAKER_00]: this year.
[00:56:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He was having
[00:56:51] [SPEAKER_00]: mechanical issues.
[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_00]: so he got Manoa'd?
[00:56:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:56:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:56:54] [SPEAKER_00]: now,
[00:56:54] [SPEAKER_00]: he wasn't in the big leagues
[00:56:55] [SPEAKER_00]: for the most part this year.
[00:56:57] [SPEAKER_00]: In fact,
[00:56:57] [SPEAKER_00]: he hasn't been in the big leagues
[00:56:58] [SPEAKER_00]: at all this year.
[00:56:59] [SPEAKER_00]: But,
[00:57:00] [SPEAKER_00]: he has a 10-11 ERA
[00:57:02] [SPEAKER_00]: in AAA Louisville this year.
[00:57:03] [SPEAKER_00]: And,
[00:57:04] [SPEAKER_00]: it got so bad to the point
[00:57:05] [SPEAKER_00]: where,
[00:57:05] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[00:57:05] [SPEAKER_00]: the Reds said,
[00:57:06] [SPEAKER_00]: there are mechanical things
[00:57:07] [SPEAKER_00]: that he needs to work on.
[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And,
[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_00]: they sent him back to Arizona.
[00:57:10] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[00:57:10] [SPEAKER_00]: he has a 10-11 ERA
[00:57:12] [SPEAKER_00]: in AAA this year
[00:57:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and a 2-26 whip.
[00:57:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[00:57:17] [SPEAKER_01]: so.
[00:57:17] [SPEAKER_01]: In case you're wondering
[00:57:18] [SPEAKER_01]: how the Castillo trade's going.
[00:57:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[00:57:20] [SPEAKER_00]: he was the Gino Winker trade,
[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_01]: but still.
[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_01]: trading with the Reds.
[00:57:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_00]: exactly.
[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Levi Stout made his way
[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_00]: back to the Mariners
[00:57:27] [SPEAKER_00]: because he didn't do much.
[00:57:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Brandon Williamson's been
[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_00]: very okay
[00:57:32] [SPEAKER_00]: since he's,
[00:57:32] [SPEAKER_00]: since he's been traded
[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_00]: over to the Reds.
[00:57:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:57:36] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:57:36] [SPEAKER_00]: the Mariners actually
[00:57:37] [SPEAKER_00]: haven't lost
[00:57:38] [SPEAKER_00]: any prospects
[00:57:38] [SPEAKER_00]: recently
[00:57:39] [SPEAKER_00]: that they're absolutely
[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_00]: shedding tears about.
[00:57:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Actually,
[00:57:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Brandon Williamson
[00:57:44] [SPEAKER_00]: hasn't pitched all year.
[00:57:45] [SPEAKER_00]: But,
[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[00:57:48] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[00:57:48] [SPEAKER_00]: there's not a lot of prospects
[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_00]: they've lost recently
[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_00]: that are just heartbreaking.
[00:57:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Now,
[00:57:52] [SPEAKER_00]: if you want to go
[00:57:52] [SPEAKER_00]: ever,
[00:57:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Adam Jones,
[00:57:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Pablo Lopez,
[00:57:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Freddy Peralta.
[00:57:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say,
[00:57:59] [SPEAKER_01]: if you do,
[00:57:59] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[00:57:59] [SPEAKER_01]: the last decade,
[00:58:00] [SPEAKER_01]: he would all be,
[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_01]: post-2021
[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_01]: because the Mariners
[00:58:03] [SPEAKER_01]: didn't have any good prospects
[00:58:05] [SPEAKER_01]: pre,
[00:58:08] [SPEAKER_01]: what?
[00:58:09] [SPEAKER_01]: From
[00:58:10] [SPEAKER_01]: 20,
[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_01]: 2018 to
[00:58:15] [SPEAKER_01]: 2013?
[00:58:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Like,
[00:58:17] [SPEAKER_01]: almost none.
[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you count
[00:58:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Lewis
[00:58:21] [SPEAKER_00]: because he won
[00:58:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Rookie of the Year
[00:58:22] [SPEAKER_00]: or do you mean
[00:58:22] [SPEAKER_00]: just solely as a prospect?
[00:58:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Prospects.
[00:58:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:58:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Because Kyle Lewis
[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_01]: in that time frame,
[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_01]: when they had initially,
[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_01]: he initially got drafted,
[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_01]: wow,
[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_01]: amazing,
[00:58:31] [SPEAKER_01]: they tore up his knee.
[00:58:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
[00:58:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:58:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So,
[00:58:33] [SPEAKER_01]: most of his prospect,
[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_01]: a good chunk
[00:58:36] [SPEAKER_01]: of his prospect luster
[00:58:37] [SPEAKER_01]: went out the window
[00:58:38] [SPEAKER_01]: when he did that.
[00:58:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:58:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I think
[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_00]: in terms of the original question,
[00:58:43] [SPEAKER_00]: again,
[00:58:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know which way
[00:58:44] [SPEAKER_00]: he's asking it.
[00:58:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's about
[00:58:45] [SPEAKER_00]: which prospect
[00:58:46] [SPEAKER_00]: will be the hardest
[00:58:46] [SPEAKER_00]: to go right now,
[00:58:47] [SPEAKER_00]: but I would say
[00:58:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Colt Emerson too.
[00:58:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Now,
[00:58:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I think on another episode,
[00:58:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I might have said
[00:58:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Belding slightly over Colt.
[00:58:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's close,
[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_00]: but Colt's a little closer
[00:58:57] [SPEAKER_00]: than Celestine.
[00:58:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Celestine just,
[00:58:59] [SPEAKER_00]: unfortunately,
[00:59:00] [SPEAKER_00]: endured another wrist injury.
[00:59:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't,
[00:59:01] [SPEAKER_00]: we don't know
[00:59:02] [SPEAKER_00]: what the extent of it is yet.
[00:59:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_00]: we haven't heard
[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_00]: any further on it,
[00:59:05] [SPEAKER_00]: but,
[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_00]: again,
[00:59:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Colt is in
[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_00]: affiliated ball
[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_00]: and also,
[00:59:09] [SPEAKER_00]: for those
[00:59:10] [SPEAKER_00]: who might not know,
[00:59:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Colt Emerson,
[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_00]: as of
[00:59:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Wednesday morning,
[00:59:16] [SPEAKER_00]: has a 35 game
[00:59:17] [SPEAKER_00]: on base streak
[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_00]: in Modesto.
[00:59:19] [SPEAKER_00]: That guy's pretty good
[00:59:20] [SPEAKER_00]: and Keith Law
[00:59:21] [SPEAKER_00]: has him as his number
[00:59:22] [SPEAKER_00]: five prospect
[00:59:23] [SPEAKER_00]: in baseball
[00:59:23] [SPEAKER_00]: as a 19-year-old
[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_00]: in low A.
[00:59:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that guy's
[00:59:26] [SPEAKER_00]: going to be pretty good
[00:59:27] [SPEAKER_00]: if everything keeps up.
[00:59:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's doing it
[00:59:29] [SPEAKER_01]: while not hitting
[00:59:30] [SPEAKER_01]: for a ton of power.
[00:59:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
[00:59:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Like,
[00:59:32] [SPEAKER_01]: imagine when he actually
[00:59:33] [SPEAKER_01]: starts heading
[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_01]: for consistent power.
[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_01]: So,
[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I think over that
[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_01]: stretch,
[00:59:37] [SPEAKER_01]: his slug's only like,
[00:59:38] [SPEAKER_01]: what,
[00:59:38] [SPEAKER_01]: 430?
[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Something like that.
[00:59:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:59:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It could be a lot better.
[00:59:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Point being,
[00:59:44] [SPEAKER_00]: we're probably going to see
[00:59:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Colt Emerson in Modesto
[00:59:45] [SPEAKER_00]: by the end of the year.
[00:59:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
[00:59:47] [SPEAKER_00]: In Everett
[00:59:48] [SPEAKER_00]: by the end of the year.
[00:59:50] [SPEAKER_00]: People are going to have
[00:59:51] [SPEAKER_00]: very good reason
[00:59:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to get out to Everett
[00:59:52] [SPEAKER_00]: here in the next couple months
[00:59:53] [SPEAKER_00]: because
[00:59:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Lazaro Montez is there.
[00:59:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Colt Emerson
[00:59:56] [SPEAKER_00]: should be there soon.
[00:59:58] [SPEAKER_00]: We assume
[00:59:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Gerangelo Sanger
[00:59:59] [SPEAKER_00]: is going to be there.
[01:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be a fun team
[01:00:02] [SPEAKER_00]: to go watch.
[01:00:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
[01:00:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Next question
[01:00:07] [SPEAKER_01]: comes from Mitchell Hopkins
[01:00:08] [SPEAKER_01]: on YouTube
[01:00:09] [SPEAKER_01]: and his question is,
[01:00:10] [SPEAKER_01]: what is your ideal
[01:00:11] [SPEAKER_01]: playoff rotation
[01:00:12] [SPEAKER_01]: if they started today?
[01:00:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
[01:00:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[01:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: this is our second
[01:00:19] [SPEAKER_00]: to last question,
[01:00:20] [SPEAKER_00]: by the way,
[01:00:20] [SPEAKER_00]: in the mailbag
[01:00:21] [SPEAKER_00]: just so people know.
[01:00:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But,
[01:00:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Logan and Kirby
[01:00:24] [SPEAKER_00]: 1-2 is obvious,
[01:00:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I think.
[01:00:26] [SPEAKER_00]: You have to go
[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_00]: with those two.
[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_01]: What order?
[01:00:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably go
[01:00:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Logan first.
[01:00:30] [SPEAKER_00]: How about you?
[01:00:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd put Kirby first.
[01:00:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it works out
[01:00:36] [SPEAKER_01]: because in a five-game series,
[01:00:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Gilbert pitches game five.
[01:00:41] [SPEAKER_01]: In a seven-game series,
[01:00:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Kirby pitches game seven.
[01:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So,
[01:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: it works out either way.
[01:00:46] [SPEAKER_01]: You get one of those two.
[01:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you have a preference,
[01:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: though?
[01:00:53] [SPEAKER_01]: At this,
[01:00:54] [SPEAKER_01]: at right this very second,
[01:00:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Kirby.
[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
[01:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: For the third guy,
[01:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I might,
[01:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you're
[01:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: going to crucify me
[01:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: for this or not.
[01:01:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[01:01:07] [SPEAKER_01]: based on your language,
[01:01:08] [SPEAKER_01]: the words that just
[01:01:09] [SPEAKER_01]: came out of your mouth,
[01:01:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I have a feeling
[01:01:10] [SPEAKER_01]: of what you're about to do.
[01:01:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[01:01:14] [SPEAKER_00]: In a five-inning
[01:01:17] [SPEAKER_00]: sample,
[01:01:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I would probably say
[01:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Brian Wu,
[01:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: but if you need somebody...
[01:01:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Shut up.
[01:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Shut up.
[01:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[01:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It's...
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[01:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: It's Luis.
[01:01:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It's Luis.
[01:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: But...
[01:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Were you serious?
[01:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[01:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: okay,
[01:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but in like a four-inning
[01:01:33] [SPEAKER_00]: sample this year,
[01:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: if you talk about
[01:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: the first four or five innings,
[01:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: who has actually dominated
[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: hitters more this year?
[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm getting at here.
[01:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[01:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[01:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Brian Wu in his
[01:01:46] [SPEAKER_01]: very,
[01:01:46] [SPEAKER_01]: very small sample
[01:01:48] [SPEAKER_01]: of what he's pitched
[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: this season.
[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
[01:01:50] [SPEAKER_01]: What's the difference
[01:01:50] [SPEAKER_01]: in innings between those two?
[01:01:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Drastic.
[01:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely drastic.
[01:01:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[01:01:54] [SPEAKER_00]: But,
[01:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I am talking about
[01:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: swing and miss,
[01:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: walk rate,
[01:01:59] [SPEAKER_00]: hard hit.
[01:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[01:02:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure,
[01:02:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we're going to get
[01:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: comments of some
[01:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: people calling me crazy.
[01:02:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't,
[01:02:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's that crazy.
[01:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Now,
[01:02:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Brian Wu's never worked
[01:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: into the seventh inning
[01:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: in his career.
[01:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: that plays into this
[01:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: in terms of longevity.
[01:02:13] [SPEAKER_00]: But,
[01:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[01:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: it is,
[01:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's a hot take
[01:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: to say when they have
[01:02:18] [SPEAKER_00]: been on the mound,
[01:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: who has overpowered
[01:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: hitters more this year?
[01:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Brian Wu or Luis Castillo?
[01:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[01:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: pull up their savant pages.
[01:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Tell me what the difference is.
[01:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying.
[01:02:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't in good faith
[01:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: do that.
[01:02:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't.
[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: if that's the case,
[01:02:34] [SPEAKER_00]: then Wu needs to piggyback
[01:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: somebody on one of these starts.
[01:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what I do with him.
[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm,
[01:02:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm,
[01:02:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry to,
[01:02:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and like,
[01:02:43] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[01:02:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and just sitting here
[01:02:45] [SPEAKER_01]: looking at his game logs,
[01:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Lyle,
[01:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[01:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[01:02:49] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah,
[01:02:49] [SPEAKER_01]: so Wu overall in the season,
[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_01]: in the small sample,
[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_01]: he's pitches good.
[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Over the first five innings
[01:02:53] [SPEAKER_01]: of a start,
[01:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: on a rate basis,
[01:02:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Brian Wu has been better
[01:02:56] [SPEAKER_01]: than Luis Castillo.
[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But,
[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
[01:02:59] [SPEAKER_01]: if you just want to peel back
[01:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: the curtain and look a little bit
[01:03:01] [SPEAKER_01]: about who he's facing,
[01:03:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
[01:03:02] [SPEAKER_01]: it's the A's,
[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_01]: it's the Royals.
[01:03:04] [SPEAKER_01]: They played him at T-Mobile Park.
[01:03:06] [SPEAKER_01]: The Royals don't hit on the road.
[01:03:07] [SPEAKER_01]: He did pitch well in New York
[01:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: against the Yankees,
[01:03:10] [SPEAKER_01]: but we know that's a shaky
[01:03:11] [SPEAKER_01]: offensive team outside of two bats.
[01:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: He faced the Nationals.
[01:03:15] [SPEAKER_01]: He faced the Angels.
[01:03:16] [SPEAKER_01]: He faced the A's again
[01:03:17] [SPEAKER_01]: before he got lit up
[01:03:18] [SPEAKER_01]: by the Guardians.
[01:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: He got hurt against the Rays,
[01:03:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and then he faced the Angels again
[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_01]: where he got,
[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_01]: got lit up.
[01:03:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's like,
[01:03:25] [SPEAKER_01]: it's not all sunshine and roses,
[01:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and their ERAs right now,
[01:03:28] [SPEAKER_01]: while are actually kind of similar.
[01:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: actually,
[01:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: no,
[01:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: there's a,
[01:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: sorry,
[01:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: there's a run separating it.
[01:03:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was a three in front of it.
[01:03:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Two,
[01:03:36] [SPEAKER_01]: three,
[01:03:37] [SPEAKER_01]: five for Wu,
[01:03:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and like a three,
[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_01]: three for Castillo.
[01:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: But no,
[01:03:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I,
[01:03:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't do that.
[01:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't.
[01:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So then,
[01:03:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Castillo has shown you in the playoffs.
[01:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah,
[01:03:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and that plays a factor here.
[01:03:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I just,
[01:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: again,
[01:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't,
[01:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't love
[01:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: the fact that he's getting hit very hard this year,
[01:03:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and I don't love the fact that
[01:03:58] [SPEAKER_00]: there have just been very few starts this year
[01:04:01] [SPEAKER_00]: that you can really pinpoint and say,
[01:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: this looks like ace Luis Castillo.
[01:04:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Now,
[01:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: okay,
[01:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: when it's all said and done,
[01:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: yes,
[01:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably pick Castillo over Brian Wu
[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: to start the third game,
[01:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and that's,
[01:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and,
[01:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and,
[01:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and most of you would too.
[01:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But then in that case,
[01:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Wu should piggyback one of these starts
[01:04:18] [SPEAKER_00]: because a lot of times starters
[01:04:19] [SPEAKER_00]: don't make it that far in a postseason start.
[01:04:21] [SPEAKER_01]: So here's my,
[01:04:22] [SPEAKER_01]: here's another problem I have with this.
[01:04:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So,
[01:04:25] [SPEAKER_01]: like over,
[01:04:25] [SPEAKER_01]: so over the first five innings,
[01:04:27] [SPEAKER_01]: yes,
[01:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: but we're at the point right now in the season
[01:04:29] [SPEAKER_01]: where we don't even trust Brian Wu to finish five innings.
[01:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Seriously.
[01:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: So then he piggybacks somebody.
[01:04:36] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm saying.
[01:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Look at,
[01:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: look at what the Mariners,
[01:04:38] [SPEAKER_01]: but he's not starting.
[01:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: So look at what most starters do in the postseason.
[01:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: When Luis went seven and a third scoreless in Toronto,
[01:04:45] [SPEAKER_00]: that was awesome.
[01:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Like he dominated.
[01:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[01:04:48] [SPEAKER_00]: but those starts,
[01:04:49] [SPEAKER_00]: this isn't just about Luis.
[01:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: This is in general.
[01:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't often occur in postseason outings.
[01:04:55] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of starters get chased early in postseason games.
[01:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: It just seems to happen.
[01:04:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Logan Gilbert,
[01:04:59] [SPEAKER_00]: when he pitched that outing in Houston,
[01:05:01] [SPEAKER_00]: he went about five,
[01:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: five and a third.
[01:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: So if that happens,
[01:05:06] [SPEAKER_00]: we've got questions about the Mariners bullpen,
[01:05:09] [SPEAKER_00]: right?
[01:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: We like some,
[01:05:11] [SPEAKER_00]: especially with Santos's injury.
[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Let Wu piggyback.
[01:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Let him go three.
[01:05:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Let him go four.
[01:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
[01:05:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
[01:05:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It shortens the need to have a bullpen finish the rest of the way from the
[01:05:22] [SPEAKER_00]: fifth inning on in a playoff game.
[01:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[01:05:26] [SPEAKER_00]: how about,
[01:05:26] [SPEAKER_00]: so again,
[01:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: so how about like,
[01:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: if you don't trust Wu to go deep in a postseason game,
[01:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: that's fine because he hasn't shown,
[01:05:31] [SPEAKER_00]: he even does it really in the regular season,
[01:05:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but would,
[01:05:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I would trust him to piggyback.
[01:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure to get three.
[01:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
[01:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I have no problem with a piggyback.
[01:05:39] [SPEAKER_01]: If your best pitchers are pitching,
[01:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: that's totally okay.
[01:05:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
[01:05:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I trust Brian Wu coming out of the bullpen.
[01:05:45] [SPEAKER_01]: If he has to,
[01:05:46] [SPEAKER_01]: so like St.
[01:05:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Luis Castillo struggles like he has at times this season gets hit hard,
[01:05:51] [SPEAKER_01]: doesn't have his best command comes out of the game in the fifth inning.
[01:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And yeah,
[01:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Wu comes in and pitches you through the seventh.
[01:05:56] [SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
[01:05:57] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what you want.
[01:05:58] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you go,
[01:05:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy Garcia and Munoz close out the game.
[01:06:01] [SPEAKER_01]: That's,
[01:06:01] [SPEAKER_01]: that's a pitching plan.
[01:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I can get behind,
[01:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: but Luis Castillo starting game three,
[01:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: not,
[01:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: not a question.
[01:06:08] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[01:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I just,
[01:06:11] [SPEAKER_00]: again,
[01:06:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure,
[01:06:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we're going to have people that disagree and that's fine.
[01:06:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I just,
[01:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I will once again say that while I would still probably pick Castillo to start
[01:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: game three,
[01:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: that I don't think it's that hot of a take to say that in the samples,
[01:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: each of them have in terms of who has overpowered hitters more this year,
[01:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it's been Brian.
[01:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Wu.
[01:06:30] [SPEAKER_01]: If Luis Castillo had the same workload as Brian,
[01:06:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Wu,
[01:06:33] [SPEAKER_01]: would he look more dominant?
[01:06:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know,
[01:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: to be honest.
[01:06:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[01:06:40] [SPEAKER_01]: in the sense of not having to pitch as long.
[01:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe,
[01:06:45] [SPEAKER_00]: but he,
[01:06:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not like he often gets lit up very late in the game and it's because it's
[01:06:49] [SPEAKER_00]: a fatigue thing.
[01:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He'll get lit up early in the game.
[01:06:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes Louise,
[01:06:53] [SPEAKER_01]: that's fair.
[01:06:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But it knowing you only have to pitch for,
[01:06:56] [SPEAKER_01]: you could throw harder stuff.
[01:06:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[01:06:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Sharper.
[01:07:00] [SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
[01:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's look,
[01:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: it's,
[01:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I,
[01:07:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we're just taught.
[01:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[01:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we're just having some discussion here.
[01:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Like this is just two people sitting and debating.
[01:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: What's probably,
[01:07:11] [SPEAKER_00]: probably in the end going to be nonsense because I'm sure the rotation they
[01:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: will roll out in the playoffs would in some order be Kirby,
[01:07:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Logan,
[01:07:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Castillo.
[01:07:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But I,
[01:07:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I think,
[01:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I think if you're going to try to get through a post season,
[01:07:24] [SPEAKER_00]: even with the rotation as good as the Mariners,
[01:07:27] [SPEAKER_00]: you're going to need Brian Wu.
[01:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly,
[01:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: if they choose to go for starters in terms of a playoff rotation,
[01:07:33] [SPEAKER_00]: like he's the guy I'm picking forth,
[01:07:34] [SPEAKER_00]: that's for sure.
[01:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[01:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: It would,
[01:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: that would definitely be a piggyback.
[01:07:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Like they would probably split it.
[01:07:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[01:07:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:07:43] [SPEAKER_00]: So point being like Mariners make the playoffs.
[01:07:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Brian Wu is going to be important that like,
[01:07:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll start that narrative right now,
[01:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: whether he's starting a game,
[01:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: whether he piggybacks,
[01:07:53] [SPEAKER_00]: they are going to need him because there are not many guys on this pitching
[01:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: staff period who have better overpowering stuff than him.
[01:08:04] [SPEAKER_00]: So they're going to need them.
[01:08:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to our last mail back question.
[01:08:08] [SPEAKER_01]: This comes from Jacob sending us a question on YouTube.
[01:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And the question is,
[01:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: now that your regulars on seven,
[01:08:14] [SPEAKER_01]: 10 filling in,
[01:08:15] [SPEAKER_01]: what is the next goal?
[01:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Where would you like to fill in or get a recurring gig next?
[01:08:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
[01:08:21] [SPEAKER_00]: that's nice.
[01:08:22] [SPEAKER_00]: He says that,
[01:08:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[01:08:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if we're technically regulars yet,
[01:08:25] [SPEAKER_00]: but I mean,
[01:08:26] [SPEAKER_00]: it's cool.
[01:08:26] [SPEAKER_00]: We're doing it a second time.
[01:08:27] [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
[01:08:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I will say,
[01:08:30] [SPEAKER_00]: so here's what I've kind of talked about and,
[01:08:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and we'll see how much of this really comes to fruition or not.
[01:08:35] [SPEAKER_00]: But I think both of us are very much in line in the sense that we want this
[01:08:40] [SPEAKER_00]: podcast to go as far as we can possibly have it go.
[01:08:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we'd love to,
[01:08:45] [SPEAKER_00]: like we don't have any plans to stop doing it.
[01:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
[01:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: And we want to keep being creative and keep implementing new ideas and keep
[01:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: having cool guests and,
[01:08:52] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[01:08:53] [SPEAKER_00]: update our equipment soon enough to,
[01:08:55] [SPEAKER_00]: to do a bunch more stuff with that.
[01:08:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I would also,
[01:08:59] [SPEAKER_00]: at least for me,
[01:09:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to speak for TJ.
[01:09:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I would also love to parlay doing this podcast with eventually doing some
[01:09:08] [SPEAKER_00]: national baseball stuff too.
[01:09:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we've had Jared Karabas on this show,
[01:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: some form of the type of setup he has now,
[01:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I think would be cool.
[01:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: He's got a team based podcast in the Red Sox.
[01:09:20] [SPEAKER_00]: That is as popular as a team podcast can be,
[01:09:23] [SPEAKER_00]: but he's also very big nationally now.
[01:09:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And he does a bunch of different national baseball stuff.
[01:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to do something like that where we've got this podcast.
[01:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully we keep getting to fill in on the radio when they allow us to do so
[01:09:36] [SPEAKER_00]: because it's really fun and we,
[01:09:38] [SPEAKER_00]: and to have that presence,
[01:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: but some form of national stuff I'd love to do too,
[01:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: whether it's a national baseball podcast or just like national social content with,
[01:09:47] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[01:09:47] [SPEAKER_00]: some of the stuff we do with players or fans,
[01:09:49] [SPEAKER_00]: if we were going to do that on a national scale for an outlet,
[01:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: or if we started it on our own,
[01:09:54] [SPEAKER_00]: something like that.
[01:09:55] [SPEAKER_00]: But like,
[01:09:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to do both kind of like,
[01:09:58] [SPEAKER_00]: this is the last thing I'll say and I'll turn it over to you.
[01:10:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Like Brock,
[01:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: for example,
[01:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Brock Heward,
[01:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: he hosts Brock and Salk five days a week on Seattle sports,
[01:10:06] [SPEAKER_00]: but he also calls college football games for Fox,
[01:10:11] [SPEAKER_00]: like national games.
[01:10:12] [SPEAKER_00]: So he does both to,
[01:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: to have some double dip in baseball would be,
[01:10:17] [SPEAKER_00]: what I'd love to do.
[01:10:18] [SPEAKER_00]: But I think we're in agreement,
[01:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: this podcast,
[01:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: like we want to just keep going.
[01:10:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Ultimately,
[01:10:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it all boils back to,
[01:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: like you said,
[01:10:26] [SPEAKER_01]: making this podcast as successful as possible.
[01:10:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And then seeing what opportunities like branch out because of,
[01:10:33] [SPEAKER_01]: because of this,
[01:10:34] [SPEAKER_01]: like for example,
[01:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: before we started this podcast,
[01:10:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought like me working in radio would get me opportunities to host in bigger markets.
[01:10:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not this like legitimately,
[01:10:45] [SPEAKER_01]: that's what I thought.
[01:10:46] [SPEAKER_01]: But because of the work we do here,
[01:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: that is give open the door and given us the opportunity to do that,
[01:10:53] [SPEAKER_01]: which is,
[01:10:54] [SPEAKER_01]: you know,
[01:10:54] [SPEAKER_01]: which is super cool.
[01:10:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I,
[01:10:57] [SPEAKER_01]: again,
[01:10:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's like a basic simple answer,
[01:10:59] [SPEAKER_01]: but I,
[01:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I pretty,
[01:11:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I just want to see where this takes us and see what doors open up after that.
[01:11:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause like you're and I,
[01:11:07] [SPEAKER_01]: your life and my life,
[01:11:08] [SPEAKER_01]: like post schools,
[01:11:09] [SPEAKER_01]: like change so much.
[01:11:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And like,
[01:11:11] [SPEAKER_01]: well,
[01:11:11] [SPEAKER_01]: we think we want to do like committing to just sort of like the only thing that remains consistent is like wanting to be around sports and wanting to be around baseball.
[01:11:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So wherever like this takes that,
[01:11:25] [SPEAKER_01]: like,
[01:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I think I'm cool with,
[01:11:27] [SPEAKER_01]: cause I think it'll be,
[01:11:27] [SPEAKER_01]: be fun no matter what we're doing.
[01:11:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's,
[01:11:31] [SPEAKER_01]: um,
[01:11:32] [SPEAKER_01]: it's not,
[01:11:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's like a simple answer,
[01:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: but just trying to grow our platform as big as possible and allow some opportunities,
[01:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: have fun,
[01:11:39] [SPEAKER_01]: be more interactive with you guys and finding ways to make the continue to make this fun and engaging for you guys and fun and engaging for us.
[01:11:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So we want to keep doing it and hopefully the Mariners play well too.
[01:11:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So we have more motivation.
[01:11:51] Yeah.
[01:11:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:11:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And building a whole community out of this thing has been,
[01:11:54] [SPEAKER_00]: has been really fun too.
[01:11:56] [SPEAKER_00]: And like meeting all these different Mariners fans,
[01:11:57] [SPEAKER_00]: but like,
[01:11:58] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah,
[01:11:58] [SPEAKER_00]: you said that well,
[01:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[01:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: look,
[01:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I've always been kind of a person that thinks out ahead and has ideas and always just trying to,
[01:12:05] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[01:12:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and brainstorms and,
[01:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: and kind of maybe is it,
[01:12:08] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe I'm a daydreamer.
[01:12:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know,
[01:12:09] [SPEAKER_00]: but like things could very well change.
[01:12:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like,
[01:12:12] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[01:12:12] [SPEAKER_00]: like that's what I'm talking about right now in terms of like,
[01:12:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh,
[01:12:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to do that longterm.
[01:12:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Like do the Mariners thing.
[01:12:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Also do some national stuff parlayed with it,
[01:12:20] [SPEAKER_00]: but things could change.
[01:12:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like you just said,
[01:12:22] [SPEAKER_00]: like,
[01:12:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I,
[01:12:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't,
[01:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think when we graduated school,
[01:12:26] [SPEAKER_00]: we thought we would be doing anything other than play by play broadcasting.
[01:12:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And I also don't think when we very first started this podcast,
[01:12:33] [SPEAKER_00]: we ever in a million years thought we'd be hosting Brock and Salk.
[01:12:36] [SPEAKER_00]: So like,
[01:12:37] [SPEAKER_00]: it's kind of,
[01:12:38] [SPEAKER_00]: it's kind of a long winded way to say like,
[01:12:39] [SPEAKER_00]: there's,
[01:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: there's sometimes no way to know what's going to happen out in front of you.
[01:12:44] [SPEAKER_00]: But,
[01:12:45] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[01:12:45] [SPEAKER_00]: with,
[01:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: with the time we try to spend into making this something,
[01:12:48] [SPEAKER_00]: something cool,
[01:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: we hope more,
[01:12:51] [SPEAKER_00]: more interesting and,
[01:12:52] [SPEAKER_00]: and exciting opportunities arise.
[01:12:54] [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
[01:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[01:12:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And all based off of what we do here,
[01:12:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I think,
[01:12:59] [SPEAKER_01]: which is what it all,
[01:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: what it all comes back to.
[01:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
[01:13:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Like there's no plans to stop this thing.
[01:13:03] [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
[01:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Like where,
[01:13:05] [SPEAKER_00]: wherever,
[01:13:06] [SPEAKER_00]: wherever this road takes us,
[01:13:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it always kind of will wind back up here.
[01:13:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Now,
[01:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: hopefully in time again,
[01:13:14] [SPEAKER_00]: we're doing more of this in person.
[01:13:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Cause that'd be great.
[01:13:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Like all the in-person recording,
[01:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: more of this in person,
[01:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: make more money.
[01:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And we have more time to do more things.
[01:13:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:13:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And,
[01:13:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and you know what you want to talk about to the original point of the question,
[01:13:26] [SPEAKER_00]: like how we might get more time on like other radio stations or national outlets or whatever.
[01:13:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: If the Mariners make the playoffs,
[01:13:35] [SPEAKER_00]: because if the Mariners make the playoffs and go on a run,
[01:13:38] [SPEAKER_00]: like people are going to want to hear about the Mariners more so than ever before.
[01:13:42] [SPEAKER_00]: So we haven't done this podcast while the Mariners have been in the playoffs.
[01:13:47] [SPEAKER_00]: So I would,
[01:13:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to experience that not just because we want to see the Mariners in the playoffs as diehard fans,
[01:13:52] [SPEAKER_00]: but like to see what content we could do out of that.
[01:13:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And like what podcasts look like,
[01:13:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we'd go to some games and vlog a playoff experience,
[01:13:59] [SPEAKER_00]: like all that stuff.
[01:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[01:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And just to see the,
[01:14:03] [SPEAKER_01]: the swell of interest would be nice.
[01:14:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
[01:14:07] [SPEAKER_00]: That too.
[01:14:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway,
[01:14:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[01:14:09] [SPEAKER_00]: that was a good last,
[01:14:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[01:14:10] [SPEAKER_00]: all the questions were good.
[01:14:10] [SPEAKER_00]: That was a good last question.
[01:14:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It almost kind of worked as a speak your mind too,
[01:14:14] [SPEAKER_00]: which,
[01:14:14] [SPEAKER_00]: which works out.
[01:14:15] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah,
[01:14:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd say that just about wraps up the mailbag,
[01:14:19] [SPEAKER_00]: which has been another very good one.
[01:14:21] [SPEAKER_00]: You guys are always good about sending in fun questions that make us think and are also,
[01:14:25] [SPEAKER_00]: you know,
[01:14:25] [SPEAKER_00]: paired with some good Mariners questions too.
[01:14:27] [SPEAKER_00]: It's all,
[01:14:28] [SPEAKER_00]: it's all fun.
[01:14:28] [SPEAKER_00]: So shout out to you guys for being creative.
[01:14:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I would say.
[01:14:33] [SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[01:14:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that just about wraps up this edition of the Marine Layer podcast.
[01:14:37] [SPEAKER_00]: You guys know the drill.
