Lyle and TJ jump into their reaction of the Victor Robles extension (2:40), before breaking down the best series win of the season over the weekend (15:48) in their two Mariners storylines. They then welcome Mariners starter Emerson Hancock for a conversation about his time at Georgia, developing within the Mariners system, his approach to start days, and more (41:05).

[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to episode number 154 of the Marine Layer Podcast.
[00:00:04] [SPEAKER_03]: We welcome on Mariners pitcher Emerson Hancock.
[00:00:07] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll chat with him about his life as a top draft prospect,
[00:00:10] [SPEAKER_03]: his development within the Mariners organization,
[00:00:13] [SPEAKER_03]: learning about his philosophy on start days.
[00:00:16] [SPEAKER_03]: That was really interesting and there are a lot of really other interesting things too.
[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_03]: We're messing around a lot with Emerson.
[00:00:21] [SPEAKER_03]: He's an awesome dude in a fantastic conversation that you guys will hear when we get to that interview.
[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll chat about the Mariners extending Victor Robles earlier today on Monday
[00:00:31] [SPEAKER_03]: and discuss the best series of the season.
[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_03]: The Mariners have played against the Mets this past weekend.
[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_03]: That was a lot of fun.
[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's get it rolling.
[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_03]: And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer Podcast,
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_03]: part of the Just Baseball Podcast Network.
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Recording Monday evening, August 12th.
[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_03]: And Lyle, if you were to try and compare how would you act on a mic?
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_03]: If you were mic'd up for a baseball game,
[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_03]: would you have more or less energy than Victor Robles had on Sunday?
[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_02]: So I'd like to think I'd be pretty energetic,
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_02]: but how can anybody say with a straight face that they'd have more energy
[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_02]: than Victor Robles did on Sunday?
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_02]: How do you pass that? How do you top that?
[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you can.
[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Now I got to give him props because I'm going to speak from personal experience.
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Unless you are running on some otherworldly amount of adrenaline,
[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_03]: and he might have had a reason for that.
[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to that in here in a second.
[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_03]: During a game, wouldn't you be a little fizzled out by the ninth?
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Don't you feel like it?
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like if it was a normal game, I would be a little tired by the end of the game.
[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_03]: If there was that much focus and energy spent standing around in a given game,
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_03]: would you not be tired?
[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like I would be, which gives even more props to Victor.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it was a normal game though.
[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Sunday Night Baseball was a big deal first time in 20 years.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that meant something to a lot of people.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I think Robles was excited about it.
[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_03]: And he had good reason to because right before the game,
[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_03]: in fact about 20 to 30 minutes before the game,
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_03]: he had signed his new extension with the Mariners.
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_03]: A two-year almost $10 million dollar deal with a club option for a third season.
[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_03]: And this is a guy in Victor Robles who in the span of now two months, Lyle,
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_03]: June 1st was outright released by the Nationals.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_03]: It is Monday, August 12th, two months and 11 days later.
[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And he has a two-year guaranteed contract with a different team.
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you think, how do you even see something like this coming as a baseball player?
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you will hit the lowest of lows and you now have a tool.
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_03]: It could be three-year guaranteed deal with a team to earn about $20 million
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_03]: after you were released outright.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_02]: TJ, when he dropped that ball in left field in Oakland,
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_02]: what if I told you that two months from then,
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_02]: he's getting a two-year extension with the Mariners?
[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it said you're full of crap and he's getting cut tomorrow.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I am sure glad they didn't do that.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me tell you what, I love Victor Robles, dude.
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I have become such a fan of his in such a short amount of time
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_02]: as has the rest of the Mariners fan base for great, great reason.
[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_02]: For a team that has lacked energy at times this year,
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_02]: you saw Cal Raleigh's quote during the Tiger Series,
[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_02]: for a team that's lacked energy, he has reinvigorated it right back into him
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_02]: and injected life right back into this clubhouse.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell he's liked in that, within that locker room.
[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell what he does on the field production-wise.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell what he does for the team just in terms of bringing life
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_02]: to the rest of the club and you're talking about a guy
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_02]: that was a 135 WRC plus hitter in June, 185 in July.
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_02]: For a stretch in July, he was a top ten hitter in the sport.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_02]: That's your guy.
[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_02]: And now he has become very quickly loved by this fan base.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's awesome and such a cool story.
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I want to give a shout out to ESPN too
[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_03]: because they nailed who they were going to highlight in this game.
[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely crushed it.
[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_03]: The guy who got the most screen time was Victor Robles.
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_03]: The amount of time that Carl Ravish and David Cohn and Eduardo Perez
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_03]: spent talking about Victor Robles was more than anyone else.
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_03]: In case you forgot, Julio was back on Sunday night.
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_03]: But which Dominican outfielder did they spend more time talking about on Sunday, Lyle?
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Not the guy that went over for five with five strikeouts.
[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Nope. It was Victor Robles' time.
[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_03]: So they nailed, despite the fact the biggest storyline of the day
[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_03]: was your superstar, excuse me, sorry.
[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I can't counter, can't contradict what has been said on this podcast, Lyle.
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_03]: So let me, let me reflame.
[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Your star centerfielder coming back and D.H.
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Ching for the first time in 18 days.
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_03]: No, it was instead the other guy playing center field and Victor Robles
[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_03]: who was highlighted his personality was shown.
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a, that was amazing.
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_03]: So shout out to him and remember to keep this,
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_03]: keep this idea in your head with this extension.
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_03]: So he signs this at 27 years old.
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_03]: This, the guaranteed part of this contract will keep him in Seattle.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_03]: There was age 28 and 29 seasons with the club option for his age 31 season.
[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_03]: So not only could Victor Robles get about,
[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_03]: it's about $20 million total on this contract.
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_03]: If the club option is picked up and there's a couple of escalators in there as well,
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_03]: given he gets a full amount of playing time for the two years.
[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_03]: It could reach about $21 million.
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, assuming if the Mariners pick up that club option for him,
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_03]: he is probably playing pretty well.
[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_03]: And then he can hit the free agent market again at age 31 and go get another contract,
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_03]: which is again just amazing for him.
[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Seeming that he was put on waivers earlier this year.
[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Not a single team wanted him at $2.6 million.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Not even the Mariners wanted to pick up that up, that up off of waivers.
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Teams just let it pass because they knew no one else was going to claim him.
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_03]: And look what has happened since then.
[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_02]: So cool.
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I want to talk more about him being on the mic on Sunday Night Baseball here in a minute,
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_02]: but like just to wrap up the Mariners talk and the extension talk,
[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_02]: well two things I want to say.
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Number one, if, and I certainly hope this is not the case,
[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_02]: I think Victor Robles absolutely has a chance to keep being a very productive starter going forward.
[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_02]: If he were for whatever reason to regress a little bit,
[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_02]: paying a fourth outfielder four and a half million dollars is nothing.
[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_02]: That's chump change.
[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_02]: And honestly that's probably about worth the value of a fourth outfielder.
[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_02]: So if you have a fourth outfielder like Victor Robles who can come off the bench,
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: he could hit some lefties, he can play some defense.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I know he's not as fast as he once was, but he can still run the bases a bit.
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_02]: That's a really good fourth outfielder to have.
[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_02]: And a guy who sparks that much energy into a team,
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_02]: that's worth the nine million dollars over two years.
[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Now let's hope he's just a starter.
[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_02]: And he way outperforms that contract and he's got a chance to.
[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But I think this is a pretty safe deal,
[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_02]: not just for Victor Robles and having the chance to hit free agency again in a couple years,
[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_02]: but for the Mariners.
[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_03]: So last baseball thing on me and then I'll tee up for the rest of the mic'd up stuff.
[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_03]: So think of how this impacts the Mariners outfield.
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_03]: They now have five outfielders under contract for next season.
[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Or sorry, no, they have six.
[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Five? Six? No, they have six.
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Yup. Ray Linkens, owner of the lefties, Robles, Julio, Randy,
[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Hannagar all under contract for next year.
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I have a hard time seeing them carry six guys,
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_03]: six outfielders on one roster next season.
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_03]: This year they'll probably make it work because they need bats.
[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_03]: But next year, it'll be interesting.
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_03]: That'll certainly be curious.
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_03]: And even I still wrote down the note while,
[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_03]: even though they have six outfielders under contract for next season.
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Now that they have two Dominican outfielders here under contract for next season,
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_03]: they should convince another Dominican outfielder that this is actually a fun place to play.
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Two guys, two Dominican outfielders who really love it here
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_03]: and have outwardly said how much they love playing in Seattle.
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_03]: They go to this other guy with the initials of JS and tell him,
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_03]: it's pretty awesome here, man.
[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_02]: He's got some ties.
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_02]: One's a former teammate, came up together in the minors.
[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm liking the sound of that.
[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Victor Robles can preach some positivity about the Mariners, about Seattle.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I think they got to get it done.
[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Or if he decides to just take the money,
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_02]: you still can go trade for Kyle Tucker, of course.
[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I like that.
[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's hope you don't have to give up any prospects.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_02]: You just spend the money on a certain Dominican outfielder with the initials JS.
[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I'd be down.
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I like that idea.
[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Same here.
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I do want to say, I want to talk about Victor Robles a little bit more on the ESPN broadcast.
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I also want to say we got him on the mic.
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Probably what was now judging by the reporting an hour before he officially signed the contract extension pen to paper,
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_02]: actually signed it.
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_02]: There wasn't a lot of position players out on Sunday.
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought they would do batting practice with Sunday Night Baseball going on,
[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_02]: 4-15 game rather than a one o'clock game for the one o'clock games.
[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_02]: There's usually not batting practice, but the Mariners didn't take it.
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Robles was out on the field.
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_02]: He was talking to some people.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, man, we haven't gotten to talk to him all year.
[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_02]: He had some time and he is the man, which I know you can already see from afar,
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_02]: but just getting to see it up close to, he was really cool, like genuine,
[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_02]: like happy to make some small talk.
[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_02]: You could tell he enjoyed answering the questions.
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_02]: We've only posted one of them.
[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_02]: We posted one here on Monday about why do you love Seattle,
[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_02]: which ended up being very timely because about four hours after we posted that clip,
[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_02]: he signs the extension.
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_02]: We've got a couple other funny ones with him too that we did
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_02]: that we're looking forward to showing people.
[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_02]: He's awesome.
[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Talk for maybe a minute or so afterward,
[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_02]: and you can tell how much fun he's having.
[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell the smile he has on his face.
[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell how much he's enjoying everything.
[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_02]: It was very cool with us, but yeah, he's really been accepted here.
[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's awesome.
[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_02]: It's such a cool story.
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure this is not where Victor Robles imagined his career going when he debuted,
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_02]: but the fact he has now turned it around to some extent is awesome.
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell he's happy.
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_02]: That's cool.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_03]: There was a quote that he said when they mic'd him up in center field
[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_03]: that really stuck with me.
[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_03]: It was, so Carl Ravish is noticing how extroverted Victor Robles is being
[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_03]: in center field.
[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_03]: He's chirping.
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_03]: He's smiling.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_03]: He's having a ton of fun, and Carl asks,
[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_03]: have you always had this much personality?
[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_03]: And Victor says, well, it went away for a couple of years.
[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I could imagine.
[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And to think of the spark that the city of Seattle added
[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_03]: to get that version of his personality back,
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_03]: which has showed that that's the best version of Victor Robles.
[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_03]: His play is great.
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_03]: His personality and what he brings to the Mariners personality-wise is incredible.
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_03]: You and I have talked a couple of times on here about the lack thereof personality
[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_03]: at some positions on this Mariners team.
[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_03]: It's just flat out, there's just not as much energy as you would like.
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_03]: And Victor Robles is quite the opposite of that.
[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_03]: He's overwhelmingly energetic.
[00:12:27] Yeah.
[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_02]: That's basically what he said to us too.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Now, not in as long of a version as he gave answer-wise to the Sunday Night Baseball broadcast,
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_02]: obviously.
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_02]: But we asked, what did he love about being in Seattle?
[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_02]: What was the first thing he said basically without hesitation?
[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_02]: He said energy.
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like energy.
[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Like he feels like he has energy here, and he used the line,
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_02]: the fans have given me energy again.
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_02]: That was cool.
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_02]: You can tell he appreciates it.
[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I know we dive into all the numbers,
[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_02]: and this segment's been less about the numbers,
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_02]: but I'm perfectly okay with that because this has just been a very cool,
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_02]: like human side of a story,
[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_02]: and it's just a very easy guy to root for.
[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's pretty cool.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Now I do want to talk on the Sunday Night Baseball broadcast,
[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_02]: getting to the funny stuff here.
[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Number one, like his pet monkeys?
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Man, he didn't hold back about that.
[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_02]: He just owns monkeys, I guess.
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess so.
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I didn't know that.
[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how that hadn't come up.
[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Like how did an ESPN dug that up, didn't they?
[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Did someone tell them?
[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I guess.
[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Who did?
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought, you know what?
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought Jen did an interview, Jen Mueller did an interview with Robles
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_02]: a few days ago where he mentioned that.
[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Somebody can tell me if I'm wrong on that because he did do
[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_02]: an interview with Jen Mueller a few days ago.
[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_02]: That might have been mentioned in there.
[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Like if we asked Divish on Saturday,
[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_03]: what pets does Victor Robles own?
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Could he have told us they were monkeys?
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_02]: He might have said Robles has a pet mantis,
[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_02]: which may or may not have also been one of the questions we asked Robles
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_02]: that we haven't posted yet.
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_02]: But for those who have not seen,
[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_02]: he has a very, very funny video of him with a mantis just sitting
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_02]: on his hat when he's in Washington, D.C.
[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how often he's been asked about that
[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_02]: or how long it's been since he's been asked about that
[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_02]: or if he's even really been asked about it at all.
[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_02]: But I guess Victor Robles really likes animals.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_02]: He's good with a mantis.
[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_02]: He's good with monkeys.
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I guess.
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_02]: What's that?
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Does he like Tucker?
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm sure he probably likes Tucker.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure.
[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah.
[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_02]: So that was really funny and honestly,
[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_02]: that was talked about the most.
[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why it is,
[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_02]: but honestly the funniest thing to me
[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_02]: was right in the middle of that conversation
[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_02]: while he's on the mic.
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_02]: A lot of guys when they're on the mic
[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_02]: and they have to go make a play,
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_02]: they'll just stop talking for a minute.
[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_02]: They'll run after it and they'll be like,
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_02]: let's go, let's go.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Or whatever they'll like yell into themselves
[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_02]: to try to get out for the ball.
[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But the fact Robles is like,
[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_02]: sorry guys, I got to make the play.
[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_02]: And he like nearly overruns the baseball
[00:14:53] [SPEAKER_02]: trying to get in and make the catch.
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_02]: And obviously he still made the catch.
[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know.
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought that was hilarious.
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_02]: And then didn't skip a beat.
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Like he throws the ball back in.
[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_02]: He's yelling at Rivas and Polanco.
[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like, knock it down.
[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Because he kind of had, again,
[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_02]: talking about Victor Robles as adrenaline.
[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_02]: He had all this adrenaline going.
[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_02]: He chucked a bullet into the infield
[00:15:12] [SPEAKER_02]: so hard that it kind of skipped by Rivas
[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_02]: and Rojas had to back it up at third.
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, knock it down.
[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Knock it down.
[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, anyway, so my pet monkeys.
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_02]: He just didn't skip a beat.
[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_02]: He's right back into the pet monkeys.
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Like those 30 seconds or whatever it was,
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_02]: it was hilarious.
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_02]: So like, I mean, all around what a great day.
[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_02]: The Sunday Night Baseball crew,
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought did a really cool job of really like
[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_02]: putting a good picture on Seattle.
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_02]: It's been a long time as we all know
[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_02]: since they'd been there for Sunday Night Baseball.
[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_02]: But you know, they had the scenic views of the city
[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_02]: and they're talking, you know,
[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_02]: they highlighted Robles.
[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_02]: They highlighted Cal Raleigh.
[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_02]: It was pretty cool.
[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_03]: And they didn't spend that much time talking about the Mets.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Shocking.
[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Shocking.
[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely shocking.
[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_02]: I gotta say too, did you see what Mike Lefko,
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_02]: friend of ours and friend of the pod tweeted out this weekend too?
[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that Cal Raleigh is now.
[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_03]: So what is he?
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_03]: They have, he dumps people for others, right?
[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's just up on the Jumbotron on Sunday
[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_02]: and Cal says, hey, person X or whatever.
[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember the exact names he used,
[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_02]: but person X in section 200 something.
[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_02]: You're being broken up with.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you've checked your text.
[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_02]: You just got dumped by the big dumper.
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I saw that.
[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_02]: So on that note, I hope Cal Raleigh is the next guy
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_02]: to get an extension because that's a guy
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_02]: who's really leaned into being a Mariner.
[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_02]: He's done a lot.
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Not just in terms of all the beatings he takes
[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_02]: compared with all the production he has,
[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_02]: the fact he posts every day,
[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_02]: but then you look at things like getting the Buehner buzz cut
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_02]: and doing this big dumper thing, embracing the nickname.
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_02]: All that paired with then when it's time to get serious,
[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_02]: he gets serious too.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_02]: He called that ownership last year.
[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_02]: He said the team lacked energy a few days ago.
[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Cal Raleigh really, really feels like he is embraced
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_02]: being a Mariner and everything it means to be a Mariner.
[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_02]: I know who his agent is.
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I know those negotiations are not going to be easy,
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_02]: but you know Cal likes it here too.
[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_02]: And if there was a way for him to stick around long-term,
[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_02]: I hope it happens.
[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_03]: And you left out the most important part
[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_03]: that he's also their best offensive player.
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that too.
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_02]: That certainly helps a lot.
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_02]: This could be his best season and he's that ultimate.
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_03]: It might be.
[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_03]: It was not looking like it in May,
[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_03]: but man, the turnaround since June has started
[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_03]: is we'll have to dive into it sometime
[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_03]: in the next couple of weeks on how Cal Raleigh has changed.
[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_03]: But just remember flashing back to this point
[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_03]: when we were highlighting the offense
[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_03]: since Jorge Polanco turned it around.
[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just going to remind people that over that sample stretch
[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_03]: since July 9th till earlier this month,
[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Cal Raleigh a noted strikeout artist
[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_03]: who'd strike out a lot at a 20% carry
[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_03]: while hitting for the power he has right now,
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_03]: which it's pretty unbelievable.
[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_03]: So shout out him.
[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And even though catchers don't age as well,
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_03]: he is still making himself significantly more expensive.
[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_03]: So whether the Mariners believe he's worth that money or not,
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_03]: his price tag is going up.
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Someone's going to pay it.
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Hell yeah, it's going up.
[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_03]: So you hope it's the Mariners.
[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Hell yeah, it's going up.
[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say when we say he might be having
[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_02]: the best season of his career so far,
[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_02]: don't take that lightly.
[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Cal Raleigh has had back-to-back four F-war seasons.
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Four.
[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_02]: He's been a top five catcher in the league.
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Five F-war, like fact.
[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_02]: He's been one of the best offensive catchers in the league now,
[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_02]: multiple years in a row.
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_02]: And now this may be his best season.
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_03]: He is your best catcher in franchise history.
[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_03]: That above all else.
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_03]: He's the best you've ever had back there.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_03]: And he's going to make that known.
[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure he will.
[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Last energy question for you before we move on.
[00:18:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Thoughts, who had more energy this weekend?
[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Victor Robles or Frank the Tank?
[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_02]: You know what?
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_02]: You know how I said nobody can top Victor Robles?
[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I lied.
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Come on.
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_02]: You can't top the legend.
[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_02]: This man not only just lost his mind on Saturday,
[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_02]: but for those who do not keep insanely close tabs on him
[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_02]: the way TJ and I do,
[00:19:19] [SPEAKER_02]: this man did a full Sunday night baseball live stream on YouTube.
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_02]: And when Jorge Polanco hit the home run to go up one nothing
[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_02]: in the second inning,
[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I encourage anybody to go watch that live stream
[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_02]: and watch that reaction to that moment.
[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_02]: He lost his mind.
[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_03]: So who screamed louder?
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Because Victor Robles was mic'd up for that.
[00:19:40] [SPEAKER_03]: He also screamed.
[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_03]: It was pretty close.
[00:19:43] [SPEAKER_02]: This is actually close.
[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, people reached Robles because that mic was in hundreds
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_02]: of thousands of households.
[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_02]: He had a ton of viewers watching it.
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_02]: You had a lot of people watching Frank's live stream,
[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_02]: but it wasn't hundreds of thousands.
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_03]: It was like 500.
[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I think he had by the end,
[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_02]: looking at it today on Monday,
[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_02]: that's what, 7000 views on it or something like that.
[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_02]: So he had viewers.
[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll give Frank this, I feel for him a little bit.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how long he made it on that live stream,
[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_03]: but he was toast by the end.
[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_03]: He was toast.
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_03]: He was 12-1.
[00:20:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I was very curious how his reaction
[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_03]: to Cal Rowley's second home run was.
[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_03]: He was out of energy.
[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll give Frank credit,
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_03]: his team scored one run all weekend.
[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_03]: So I would also be out of energy.
[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we complained about that Mariner series against the Angels.
[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_02]: The reruns in three games.
[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_02]: That's had one, one run.
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Now, and which honestly,
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_02]: before we kind of move on here
[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_02]: into a couple other talking points,
[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_02]: we should talk about the pitching,
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_02]: the starting pitching this weekend.
[00:20:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Because there's a lot of guys you can highlight
[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_02]: this weekend and Robles says now going to be
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_02]: the center of it for good reason.
[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_02]: But there's other guys we can highlight.
[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_02]: We've now highlighted Cal,
[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_02]: highlighted Polanco a little bit,
[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_02]: by the way, that double play he made.
[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God.
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that was unreal.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_03]: It's shout out to Leo for stabbing that with his bare hand.
[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_02]: So for a guy that like listen,
[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_02]: we love Jorge Polanco.
[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Another guy we really root for
[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_02]: and has turned it around a ton
[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_02]: with his bat in the last month.
[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_02]: But defensively, he is in the first percentile
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_02]: and now it's above average.
[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_02]: He didn't show it right there.
[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_02]: He made a phenomenal play.
[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Then he made a good play in the eighth inning too.
[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_03]: So that was as Goldie put it,
[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_03]: double play of the year.
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_03]: There won't be anything that'll top that.
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_03]: When we come back to the energy conversation,
[00:21:33] [SPEAKER_03]: could there be any more of a polar opposite
[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_03]: between the first series this week
[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_03]: and the second series this week?
[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Could it be any different?
[00:21:41] No.
[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean 26 innings of what you and I
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_03]: would call unacceptable energy levels
[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_03]: from what we saw from the Mariners.
[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean just straight up bad.
[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Like what the heck is going on here?
[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And then in the,
[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna try and do math here,
[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_03]: 28 innings after that.
[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Unbelievable.
[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean it could not have been
[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_03]: a bigger turnaround than that.
[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Truly as I put it in my reaction
[00:22:05] [SPEAKER_03]: to the Tiger series,
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_03]: totally unexpected and just blew me away
[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_03]: about that.
[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Blown away.
[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_02]: So again there's so many guys
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_02]: to highlight this weekend.
[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Now we've done Cal.
[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Now we've done Polanco.
[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Now we've done Robles.
[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Now we've done a lot of great
[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Ryan Bliss, and you mentioned Leo Rivas
[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_02]: anchored that win on Friday.
[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Bliss hit the home run.
[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Rivas has the clutch hitting the game.
[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Bottom of the lineup.
[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Guys who were kinda at the bottom
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_02]: of the offensive depth chart
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_02]: that willed them to that win Friday
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_02]: was awesome.
[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_02]: We haven't even mentioned Randy
[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Rosa-Reyna too.
[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_02]: The guy, I almost feel like it's
[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_02]: flying under the radar a little bit
[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_02]: because he's not hitting like
[00:22:39] [SPEAKER_02]: balls out of the yard a ton yet.
[00:22:41] [SPEAKER_02]: He's got a 920 OPS since coming
[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_02]: over here.
[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_02]: He's been very good, very, very good.
[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_02]: So all of that said gets back to the original point
[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to transition here too when you talked about the Mets scoring one run
[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Pitching was so good six shutout for Bryce seven shutout for Logan six and one for Louise. That's the Mariners rotation for you
[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry. What was the last pitch playing here? Oh, Louise Louise
[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_03]: The light the lights were pretty bright tonight right national broadcast it's pretty good hottest team in baseball
[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Right not better. Well, not better than the Phillies when Brian Wu and seven shutout, but
[00:23:17] [SPEAKER_03]: What are Brian we're doing against Tigers?
[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_02]: I had oh right. Oh, he had he had one he had one tough inning and then absolutely overpowered him for the other five
[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Interest still might still my game three starter. However, I will say I will say
[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Louise is starting to look a lot better. Let's hope that was as good
[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_02]: I think as he's looked all year since that brave start when he went seven shutout
[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I was back in April. He wasn't the most efficient stuff wise though looked really good. Mm-hmm. So
[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Listen, if the final six weeks of the year Louise starts to look a lot more like he did in that Mets start
[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Probably changed my opinion right now. I'm right now. I'm gonna stick to it. I'm gonna say Brian Wu
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_02]: But if things change
[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like like Louis starts to look a lot better. That's a great sign for this team
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me let me say one thing too about this whole Louise versus Wu game three thing
[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is actually a
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Point that probably we need to hit on
[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_02]: The Mariners may not be able to pick how they slot the rotation for the playoffs if they're up against it till the very end
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Of the year and get in late. They're not gonna have a chance to re-slot their rotation
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be whoever is slated to pitch
[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_02]: This exercise is more about if they can pick to slate it. How would you go?
[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_02]: But what's reality reality maybe they just have to go with whoever's turning this and
[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And speaking of reality, let's put into more of a perspective of the kind of team
[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_03]: The Mariners just kind of pushed aside this weekend in the Mets
[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_03]: The Mets over their previous 60 games had the best record in baseball the best
[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_03]: 39 and 21 over the last 60 games over that stretch
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_03]: They'd scored the second most runs in baseball five and a half per game
[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_03]: And if this puts it in perspective a little bit more for for Mariners fans the Mariners era this weekend was point three three
[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_03]: point three three
[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Against a team that had done that over a stable size
[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a third of the season that they were the best team in baseball
[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_03]: That is last weekend against the Phillies. We said you could argue. That's the best series win of the season
[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_03]: No, this one is this one is overpowered
[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_03]: a good baseball team
[00:25:32] [SPEAKER_03]: offensively
[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Defensively and on the mound
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_03]: This team's so hard to beat in T-Mobile Park. It is unbelievable
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_03]: I again, I don't know how the Tigers like how they just didn't show up against Tigers
[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't get it because they this we've seen what happens when everything clicks. It is incredibly incredibly difficult
[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_03]: To win at T-Mobile
[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_02]: They better find a way to win that division because to have a series at home
[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be hard to beat the Mariners in a playoffs series at home
[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Especially with that rotation going win that division also
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I got to make sure I listened to Mets up this week our friends giraffe neck mark and James Shiano who do the Mets up podcast
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_02]: We were on with them last week. I saw Mark tweeting
[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_02]: He was livid after that series and he should have been and he said he was gonna go off on a rant on the podcast
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_03]: So I think I need to go back and listen. Let's give one last shot out here before we get to our interview with Emerson Hancock
[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Shout out to Troy Taylor makes his MLB debut
[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_03]: He has not been in the Mariners organization longer than two years
[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_03]: But a little bit over two years tech. Oh, no one year. Sorry
[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_03]: technically
[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_03]: He comes in in the ninth inning. It looks great
[00:26:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Fastballs up to 98 showed a sharp slider and it's gonna be exciting to watch. He was pretty amped up
[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_03]: You could see it on his face
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_03]: You could see how locked in he was and think he was mumbling to himself too as he's doing is just trying to try to get the
[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Energy out however you can on that adrenaline is pumping
[00:26:56] [SPEAKER_03]: But he looked good and this team as we know needs another reliever
[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_03]: They need a reliever to slot somewhere in those eight bullpen spots
[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_03]: They need another guy. They need another guy they can rely upon because right now. They don't have enough guys
[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_03]: That they can truly say we trust this guy no matter what the scenario is
[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_03]: You and I highlighted this a little bit on our live stream like the role
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I think we would be aiming for Troy Taylor to have is a guy that they don't really need to pitch and leverage because the Mariners
[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_03]: starters are gonna pitch deep enough into games where the Mariners can go with some combination of Colin Snyder Jimmy
[00:27:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Garcia and Andres Munoz with a lead no problem
[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_03]: But you need people that you can trust to pitch from behind and that have pitched well
[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Consistently because the Mariners haven't gotten consistent performances out of the other guys in those bullpen that we did not mention
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Can Troy Taylor be that?
[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_02]: It's possible
[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_02]: The numbers of the minors say he was ready for the big leagues in a lot of ways
[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Here's what he did never it 11 appearances 150 era 241 fit gets called up to Arkansas
[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_02]: They said you know what Troy you're too good for hi, hey, you're too good for the Northwest League in Arkansas 29 appearances
[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_02]: 117 era 228 fifth. He walked just over two and a half per nine
[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Those strikes has a good fastball didn't give up runs
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_02]: They said he was ready for the big leagues. He had a great great minor league season
[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_02]: By the way, another guy we talked to this week and did some content with another cool guy
[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Obviously friends with Logan Evans and clearly you could see it was like it was all like I got to take this all in this weekend
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_02]: You could kind of tell like he got out to the field early
[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_02]: He did his little media session like a welcome to Seattle thing and then he was out on the field early before anybody else
[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_02]: You can kind of just see him looking around and walking around
[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that stuff's always so cool like you can you're looking in the moment of a person who just realized they are
[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Living their dream in reality. So shout out to Troy Taylor for that and
[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_02]: shout out to his first big league outing because
[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_02]: We can talk about what his future will look here long term look like your long term in the Mariners bullpen, but 2k's
[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Stuff was was ticked up basketball was at 98 and if he can be a
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Keep the score Bay type of reliever they can really use that right now like you said
[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_03]: What is upside is I think we're still trying to figure that out a little bit because
[00:29:18] [SPEAKER_03]: The results in the minor leagues was very good. I think from everything
[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I've consumed online
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_03]: It is like the profile still as he's labeled on there is like is a closer profile a high leverage
[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_03]: reliever profile
[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_03]: but he's still got to prove himself at the big league level and especially as a two-pitch guy the two pitches need to be extremely
[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_03]: extremely good and
[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_03]: The strikeout rate in double a was good at
[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_03]: 27 and a half percent. How does that translate to the big league level?
[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Is that a 27 and a half percent at the big league level which is fine for a reliever good?
[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_03]: somewhere between good and fine or
[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Will that drop down to a 23 to 22 percent because big league headers are significantly better
[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_03]: That we're gonna have to wait and see that
[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_03]: And that also doesn't take into account. Could he add another pitch as well?
[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I know he has a change up that he throws rarely, but we've seen a two-pitch guy like Andres Munoz evolve and
[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_03]: If Troy Taylor wants to survive at the big league level deck that very well
[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_03]: But could be an option here in the future, but we'll have to see
[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I think we need like 15 20 innings to see what he really is and how his stuff plays day in and day out
[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_02]: so
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes I like to use K per nine a little better than strikeout rate just sometimes I feel like it's more digestible
[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes I think for other people. It's a little more digestible. So Troy Taylor in the minors in double a I should say
[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Struck out a little over nine batters per nine. That's a fine strikeout rate. It's not overwhelming
[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_02]: It's not like what Edwin Diaz and was doing in his peak years here in Seattle or what Paul Seawall did that first year when he was striking
[00:30:58] [SPEAKER_02]: everybody out in 2021
[00:31:00] [SPEAKER_02]: but
[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_02]: It's fine like like that's a good way to put it. So with that I
[00:31:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Think we're gonna have to watch and see how strikeouts for Troy Taylor
[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Translate to the big leagues because most times nowadays, especially if your profile does a high leverage arm long term
[00:31:17] [SPEAKER_02]: You have to strike guys out
[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_02]: That's how relievers thrive these days
[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_02]: You have to strike guys out especially with that type of stuff and he wasn't striking nobody out
[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_02]: We got a question on the live stream on Sunday asking why Carlos Vargas wasn't getting a chance
[00:31:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, his ERA is under three
[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_02]: But he's walking everybody gives up a ton of hits and he is literally striking out five and a half batters per nine in
[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Triple A that's why Carlos Vargas isn't up in the majors Troy Taylor is not
[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Putting up that low of a strikeout rate, but it's right in the middle
[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_02]: What he didn't in the minors was right in the middle to be a really good reliever high end reliever
[00:31:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Usually you need what as 11 ish case per nine and maybe at least a little closer to 10
[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Nine's fine, but I just think you need a little bit more of an uptick. He can get there
[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_02]: He's 22. He's got a long ways to go in terms of his development, which is a good thing
[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_02]: But it'll just be interesting to see how it translates because
[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Usually these days as a right-handed reliever in the big leagues with big stuff
[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_02]: You got to swing you got to get swinging mess. You got a strike guys out and lucky for him his fastball is pretty unique
[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_03]: He throws a foreseeing but at the action of it is like a sinker and at least a pretty good ground ball way
[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_03]: ground ball rate so it sort of offsets the
[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_03]: If there is a lack of strikeouts a lot of the contact will be on the ground
[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_03]: The worst thing he could do is be an average strikeout reliever, but have a fastball that gets hit in the air a ton
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_03]: And that usually leads to
[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Home runs and extra base hits and that's he gets sent back down to the minors
[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_03]: So we'll see we need to see more than one appearance from Troy Taylor
[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_03]: But it was good to see him. He was amped up the stuff looked really good his family was thrilled
[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_03]: They kept panning to him in the stands cheering for and screaming at him
[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_03]: That was that was pretty awesome these debuts seem so so so cool
[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_03]: But what it means in a sense of the Mariners?
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_03]: He is really the last option they could add to that bullpen this year
[00:33:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I think unless it's an emergency in terms of
[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Choices to add to the Mariners bullpen. It's pretty much just him or when they feel like Gabe Spire is ready to come back
[00:33:22] [SPEAKER_03]: To the big leagues
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that's about it when it comes to relievers this year so that group that's there in the bullpen right now
[00:33:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Is what you got
[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Right and we'll see how it goes the rest of the way
[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's not let the strikeout talk to you railist though. I am very very excited Troy Taylor got the call up
[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I've wanted to see him get called up for a while now
[00:33:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And I know strikeouts weren't that high again
[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_02]: There were still some things for him to work on in Arkansas
[00:33:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But the way he was pitching with the results he was getting the stuff he has I was like
[00:33:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Man, I hope he gets to the big leagues this year and now in the stretch run
[00:33:57] [SPEAKER_02]: They've got him and you've got a guy that's got a chance to play a very important role because when you're down by one down by two
[00:34:04] [SPEAKER_02]: You need the guy that can keep it at bay
[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_02]: You got to give your offense a chance
[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_02]: You just have to and he can do that long term
[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think this will be the role he pitches in if he continues to develop
[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I think you'll see him pitching more leverage
[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_02]: But you you need him this year to keep leads at bay and I'm very excited to watch him do that
[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Because I think he's got a chance to be very important as we framed it to keep it close
[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Reliever right is the role we need that's what they need right now
[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Definitely, okay one last last thing. I want to do 60 seconds on this then we'll start to trans this transition
[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Ahmed Rosario got DFA'd by the Dodgers today
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Do we think the Mariners pick them up?
[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_03]: So you talked to Leo Rivas for the first time this weekend and had glowing reviews of him so
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_03]: So we could vouch now personally Leo Rivas. He had a good series this weekend
[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Fantastic dude if Ahmed Rosario makes it to the Mariners on waivers. Yes
[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely, cuz JP's not back for another three weeks at least
[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_02]: You use that production right there you have to and he was hitting well with the Dodgers
[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm shocked they let him go
[00:35:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm sure the Mariners are not the only team that'll be interested in Ahmed Rosario
[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, if he makes it there you'd have to think they're gonna they're gonna be interested
[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe sticks around longer than three weeks for when JP's back. Maybe they let somebody else
[00:35:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Move around or go back to the miners or whatever once JP's back if Ahmed Rosario proves
[00:35:29] [SPEAKER_03]: He's worth keeping around so Rosario's played some outfield this year too, right?
[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Has he no then think so and maybe that's an option
[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe maybe one of the outfielders goes down Mariners have a log jam in the outfield right now
[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_03]: So right me tough right? I'm all in on that that makes the Mariners better
[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_03]: If he gets to them, that's a yes. Yeah instantly it should be it would lead to a tough roster crunch for someone you wouldn't want to
[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Once everyone's healthy it would lead to a crunch for someone you don't probably don't want to move around but
[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Gotta put your best 26 out there
[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_03]: have to
[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just wanted to hit on that for a minute because it is news here on Monday
[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_02]: And we'll see what happens in the coming days if if the Mariners have a chance to pick them up or not
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I'm a Rosario. All right. Let's take a quick pause
[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna talk to you guys about our friends over at Pegaches pub 85 while the Mariners are on a roll now
[00:36:19] [SPEAKER_02]: They've got a road trip coming up. So while they're not at home
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Why don't you plan a night out with your friends get out watch the game have some great food drinks?
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Happy hour drinks might I add do all that over at pub 85 happy hour drinks three and four dollars
[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Monday through Friday two to six p.m. Get there early get some happy hour specials some great food
[00:36:38] [SPEAKER_02]: You can play some darts pool and sit down to watch the Mariners was more than 20 TVs in that place
[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_02]: All of that is over at Pegaches pub 85 in Kirkland
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_02]: so
[00:36:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Emerson Hancock's the man. Yeah. Yeah, he is he is the man
[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_03]: What we've told the story on here the last time we talked him in person, right?
[00:36:57] [SPEAKER_03]: We're just hanging out at the dugout. Did we tell that so I don't know if we did
[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna I'll let you tell it but okay, I was a just to tee it up for people
[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about it a little bit with the in the interview with him, but we're gonna fill in some dots here
[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_02]: so
[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so what like sort of like invigorated us to have a conversation with Emerson Hancock like we knew he was awesome
[00:37:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Like we talked to him at spring training. We've done some content with him like small
[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Conversations here and there around the facility and you could tell he's great. He's what a year younger than us
[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_03]: So it's like, you know, it's relatable
[00:37:35] [SPEAKER_03]: But we're it it was
[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a July weekend. I was home the second to last weekend
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I was home in July his last start in the big leagues and he's starting on that Sunday and you and I are out there
[00:37:46] [SPEAKER_03]: What is it 830 or 9 in the morning ish 9 30?
[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_03]: We're just chilling on the top rail of the dugout hanging out waiting to see if anyone's out there
[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_03]: So Emerson comes walking on the bottom but on the floor of the dugout
[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And we're up top on the field level and we're not looking at them, right?
[00:38:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Because they're like well, we know we starting and when a pitcher's starting
[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like I'm not not bothering with you today because we're gonna get in trouble if we talk to you
[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_03]: So he walks he walks by us
[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me fill in the dots for people maybe maybe some people know this
[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe some people don't when a starting pitcher is on their start day
[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_02]: You do not talk to him. Not not only is that a media thing? It's a player thing players in the clubhouse
[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Do not talk to starting pitchers on their start day until the start is over. You just leave them alone
[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_02]: It's very superstitious. It's very much routine. It's been a baseball thing for ever
[00:38:33] [SPEAKER_02]: You leave them alone if a media person was gonna walk up to somebody on a start day and try to talk to him
[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, you'd probably get in trouble
[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_03]: So Emerson's walking on the walking in the dugout and we're looking away from him
[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_03]: He's like what's up boys? Who are we interviewing today and loud? I look at each other like well
[00:38:50] [SPEAKER_03]: They look around is like what's up ever said how we doing?
[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_03]: You want to get on though? It's like we can't interview you today. You're starting there's a rule against that
[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_03]: He's like what?
[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_02]: That's not a rule sort of yeah, like I said Emerson asked boys
[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Who we getting on the mic? I was like well it all kind of depends on who walks by like I tried to keep it short because again like
[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Emerson start day just got back up from Tacoma like like let him do his thing
[00:39:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like kind of he's depends who walks by tried to be obviously as nice about it as possible
[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_02]: But try to get in and out and TJ's like
[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_02]: We'll probably get in trouble if we talk to you and Emerson goes what cuz I'm starting today
[00:39:23] [SPEAKER_02]: He's like that's not a rule and I said listen Emerson if you wanted to tell us come up to us and say
[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I know it's my start day, but I need to get on the mic today. We would never tell you know
[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_02]: I just want you to know we are absolutely
[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_02]: 150% getting ripped by somebody with the team if we do he's like alright. Maybe it's a little bit of a rule
[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_03]: So anyways
[00:39:49] [SPEAKER_03]: That has led to us getting them on the mic here on this podcast and we had a fantastic conversation again
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_03]: It's it's great. I mean we start talking about how bad of a defensive coordinator Kirby smart is
[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a great way to start it. Yeah, oh
[00:40:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Leave out the or a head coach. Yeah calling. He still calls his defense Lyle close enough
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I was gonna say we start off with Georgia Bulldog football and talking about you know coming up through the through the minors
[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_03]: We talk about his philosophy of a start day how he approaches it compared to everyone else
[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_03]: That was really interesting to hear about too. I mean he's so related
[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_03]: But we're just kind of messing around half the time. So he was great. He's the best
[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like we talked about him playing ping pong maybe him and I'll get on get on the table next spring
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_02]: We'll see we talk about that a little bit. But yeah, like we talked about some baseball stuff, too
[00:40:39] [SPEAKER_02]: It's a very good like free-flowing conversation. He's awesome
[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I will say that the next day we got Emerson on the mic for some content back when he was starting in Seattle
[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Not on the start day the next day
[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_02]: We got him and then we ended up getting him here on the podcast and it was awesome
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_02]: He is
[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Unquestionably one of our guys at this point. So yeah, and we hope we see him back up here in Seattle soon enough
[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_03]: But until then you guys can hear him here on this podcast and we'll get you guys to the interview with Emerson Hancock
[00:41:07] [SPEAKER_03]: All right, we got Mariners starter Emerson Hancock on with us Emerson
[00:41:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks so much for taking some time for us. We're gonna start how we'd normally start with you
[00:41:15] [SPEAKER_03]: So let me just throw this at you
[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Should we talk about second and 26 now or should we save it for later?
[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_00]: We're not gonna talk about that doesn't this podcast
[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_03]: We're not gonna get into that. What was that defense he called or no, I don't know
[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know but I remember watching it with the group of guys and it was
[00:41:33] [SPEAKER_00]: What a roller coaster of motion especially to play before like you get a sack. You're like, okay
[00:41:38] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe they're out of field goal range and
[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Um great pass great play that a tough really tough day right there
[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_02]: so did it result in a lot of silence with everybody you were watching with or was it a lot of
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Prefantity use that maybe you won't repeat on your yeah, I think a little bit. I think it was more shock
[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_00]: It was like oh my like cuz just cuz the high of the play before and then you're locked in
[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_00]: All right here we go here we go and just like perfect pass perfect spot in the corner
[00:42:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like it's over and it's like a
[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Lot of people were upset angry, but I think I think I just kind of sat there and didn't really know what to do
[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Did the two winning the two offset that did like does the high of those two?
[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Like offset the low of what was before because I'm gonna be honest
[00:42:24] [SPEAKER_03]: So we're sioc fans and we've we've seen about as bad as it possibly can get when it comes to heartbreaking losses
[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_03]: It depends on the win to offset something like that one could argue
[00:42:38] [SPEAKER_03]: A bad loss is worse than a great win. So I will ask you did it offset or did it not?
[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll say this watching them win the first one
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_00]: It I mean I really it brought a tear just because of like
[00:42:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Everything that like the fan base, you know has been through it had been such a long time
[00:42:57] [SPEAKER_00]: You know there have been so many great players and great teams and just to kind of be at that point like yeah
[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna do it like this is awesome
[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Just like seeing the fan base like Saturday got and then you know you get you get to do it again
[00:43:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's something that you know should never be taken for granted because winning is really really hard
[00:43:15] [SPEAKER_00]: You know those guys put in a lot of time and effort and dedication and to win two national championships back to back
[00:43:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like that's sick. I mean three would be awesome, but just the accomplishments they've had in a short period of time has been really cool
[00:43:29] [SPEAKER_02]: All right, all right. That's a good response
[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I was gonna say like I don't know if we have the same response
[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_02]: What maybe it was because of the order was flipped where we saw a Seahawks win and then the loss where?
[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_02]: There was shock, but oh no, we were well
[00:43:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to speak for TJ
[00:43:43] [SPEAKER_02]: But I remember just yelling a bunch of whatever after that Super Bowl same thing with with we're in the
[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Trustry here same thing when the Yord on Alvarez home run happened two years ago
[00:43:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it was like there was shock, but like the immediate reaction was like. Oh, there was like propane these let out
[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Like just yeah, it's people who are die hard Marinus fans like to go through
[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Crushing losses like that like you said everybody reacts differently, but for us. It was like yeah like oh
[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_02]: That was that was a tough pill to swallow put it like that
[00:44:13] [SPEAKER_03]: What about the excitement for winning a second one by 58 do you get excited for that? Absolutely
[00:44:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, I think like again just
[00:44:25] [SPEAKER_00]: The accomplishment of winning a national championship should never be taken for granted the win two in a row
[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I get it the game was a blowout, but like it's just
[00:44:34] [SPEAKER_00]: You've been through so much and now you get to do it two times, you know back-to-back gears
[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like all right. What's going on here? You know, we're really lucky
[00:44:41] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a great time to be you know, Georgia Bulldog fan, but I mean those feelings are hard to describe. They really are
[00:44:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay
[00:44:49] [SPEAKER_02]: So anybody listening to this or anybody that knows anything about you knows that not only did you go to Georgia?
[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_02]: But you grew up a diehard Georgia Bulldogs fan. I think it's pretty clear
[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_02]: That's probably where you were always dreaming of playing your college balls
[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_02]: So when you get into high school and offers are starting to roll in well one
[00:45:07] [SPEAKER_02]: What are some of the other college offers you had and two how long did you have to wait around to get the interest from Georgia?
[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's that's a great story great question. I mean I think the biggest thing is like I didn't have many college offers
[00:45:20] [SPEAKER_00]: I was a real late bloomer in high school
[00:45:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I didn't really throw as hard as the other guys kind of coming up
[00:45:25] [SPEAKER_00]: So it was like what can I do to like just kind of get myself on the mat?
[00:45:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Like what I want their attention and the back of my mind
[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_00]: It was always Georgia, you know, there would be some other schools that would reach out
[00:45:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But I was like what do I need to do to get their attention and I remember
[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Going up to a couple of camps and kind of putting my name out there at Georgia
[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_00]: And the interest just wasn't really there and I remember I got throw a little bit harder
[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So I would you know sometimes go to the gym, you know twice a day as a freshman sophomore junior in high school
[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Just trying to gain the V love so after I had a really good junior year. I got a visit to go up to school
[00:46:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously loved the place and you know talking to coach trickling
[00:46:07] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I was just kind of waiting on that offer and it was a funny story
[00:46:11] [SPEAKER_00]: It led into a summer ball game where Georgia came and
[00:46:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Was the pitching coach was there and you know for me, it's like alright. This is it right like this is the moment
[00:46:22] [SPEAKER_00]: You know things either gonna go one way or the other. I had a terrible first inning
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a couple walks couple hits maybe three or four to nothing
[00:46:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And like I'm walking off the mound and it's like
[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_00]: All right, like this can either go one or two ways like we can either you can either quit
[00:46:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Go somewhere else and play you can kind of like fight and just see where it go
[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I put up a zero the next inning and see where things go and
[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I ended up I think getting to like the six of the seventh inning
[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I think didn't give up another run and we won like five to four and
[00:46:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm getting out of the dugout coach trickling calls me and offers me the scholarship and like
[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Guys like it's been one of the most emotional days
[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I've had like just realizing that and those like all right. Yep. I'm going there
[00:47:05] [SPEAKER_00]: So I know a long story
[00:47:08] [SPEAKER_00]: But it was such a good question because it brings back really good memories and it's crazy to see the I guess the
[00:47:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Reaction of getting that because you were supposed to after this late bloom and your velocity taking up
[00:47:19] [SPEAKER_03]: You were still supposed to go in the first round out of high school if you wanted to but you ultimately decided instead to go
[00:47:25] [SPEAKER_03]: To Georgia do I have that right? Yeah, we had some
[00:47:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Really good interests, you know early on in the draft
[00:47:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was just something to where as the season went on my high school my senior year
[00:47:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I just really wanted to go to school
[00:47:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I went up on a visit and they were playing Mississippi State one weekend and like the crowd was into it
[00:47:44] [SPEAKER_00]: They were they won the series and it's like I want to experience this
[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I want to see what it feels like, you know to represent such a great place
[00:47:51] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was just kind of how it was
[00:47:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I did maybe a couple workouts for like some teams toward the end of that
[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Senior season but ultimately I wanted to go to school
[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_03]: So then I want to fast-forward to your junior year because I'm curious how
[00:48:06] [SPEAKER_03]: You know how stuff like this plays out for top draft prospects. Could you walk me walk us through?
[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_03]: What's it like being a top five top 10 draft prospect?
[00:48:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Go into class go into training
[00:48:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Knowing like what's ahead for you the expectations the pressures like needing to perform. How did you handle that?
[00:48:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think for me
[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Personally it was always I felt kind of the pressure and expectations to win with the guys that we had and so because it meant to
[00:48:41] [SPEAKER_00]: So much of the guys on our team
[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_00]: To be able to go out there and win and do something really special for our university and not been able to do it in
[00:48:49] [SPEAKER_00]: 18 or 19 I think 20 was like a big year for me because I thought this is probably our last chance together
[00:48:56] [SPEAKER_00]: to make a really good run and
[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I just think as you know, you go through everything in that sophomore year and if everything's building up your junior year
[00:49:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean we're a top five team in the country
[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_00]: All the expectations are there, you know, you're trying to be the guy that's gonna help them get there and
[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_00]: It's it's tough
[00:49:16] [SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time like it's a lot of fun if you embrace it
[00:49:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's a lot of fun to have the fans engage people behind you, you know
[00:49:24] [SPEAKER_00]: They're packing out the stadium and playing with that group of guys
[00:49:27] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's all about how you view it and how the perspective you go into it with
[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_03]: now understand the uptick in like in team expectation, but I
[00:49:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Assume there was also, you know some more media attention on you. There are more scouts there
[00:49:41] [SPEAKER_03]: You're you know MLB pipelines like trying to try to get an interview with you baseball America, etc
[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean trying to try to talk to you and get to know Emerson Hancock because everyone knows hey this dude when he gets drafted next year
[00:49:53] [SPEAKER_03]: He's gonna be a top 40 prospect at least he's gonna be some teams. Yeah future, you know future hopefully ace on the mound
[00:50:01] [SPEAKER_03]: How was you know, how did you feel like you dealt with that? I
[00:50:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I did, you know as good as a job because like it's really hard to prepare for stuff like that
[00:50:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like until you go through it. You really don't know. It's all right. What's the right way to do this?
[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, I think
[00:50:18] [SPEAKER_00]: The end of the day
[00:50:19] [SPEAKER_00]: You just kind of focus on you know helping the team win like that that was my mentality
[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_00]: It was you know if our team is really successful
[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Our team is doing the things that we're capable of doing then things are probably going pretty well
[00:50:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And I just try to have that mentality
[00:50:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I tried to enjoy being with that group of guys the best that I could and I feel like I did you know pretty good job of doing that
[00:50:43] [SPEAKER_02]: All right
[00:50:44] [SPEAKER_02]: You've got like four different pictures on your Instagram while you're at Georgia with your AirPods in just like you have now
[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_02]: So what do you listen to either whether it was back at Georgia or whether it's now has it even changed that much?
[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_02]: What do you what you listen to on a start day?
[00:50:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a lot of country a lot of country a little bit of like pop of
[00:51:03] [SPEAKER_00]: A couple songs that I like to kind of get things going but
[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Back then you know everybody at school like Jason Audine was kind of like the guy that I always listen to
[00:51:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And so everybody would give me a hard time just about when the AirPods in I'd listen to that like he's been my pitching song
[00:51:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Like my whole career. So
[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of guys give me a hard time by that
[00:51:25] [SPEAKER_02]: so
[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_02]: You'd have to answer this question for me because I don't listen to a ton of country music
[00:51:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe a little bit, but is that stuff motivating before start?
[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_02]: I got not sitting here saying you have to listen to whatever in the world
[00:51:37] [SPEAKER_02]: George Kirby listens to on a start day, but like does that fire you up Jason Aldean?
[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I think like certain songs do like Jason Aldean is really good at it
[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Dustin Lynch has some really really good songs. I like listening to it's just for me like I don't want to
[00:51:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Get too high either like I kind of want to listen to some good music
[00:51:56] [SPEAKER_00]: They'll kind of get my energy going a little bit
[00:51:58] [SPEAKER_00]: but I just don't want to just completely get all the way pumped up because
[00:52:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Like bibs and flow the game like the first inning you're always way up here
[00:52:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And you're always trying to manage kind of in between throughout, but I kind of like just whatever's gonna get me going in the warm-up
[00:52:13] [SPEAKER_03]: So when you say pop is it country pop or is it like legit like Taylor Swift pop or Bruno Mars or something?
[00:52:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It's more like
[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the song burned by Ellie Golden kind of stuff like that
[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_00]: They kind of I got a couple other songs like my
[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Workout playlist that they're pretty good, but just kind of something that's got like a good beat and
[00:52:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of keeps you going
[00:52:35] [SPEAKER_03]: It's now I'm curious what your take would be on what Paul Schien's listens to have you heard this
[00:52:40] [SPEAKER_03]: He apparently listens to audiobooks while warming up. I can't imagine that's overly motivating
[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_03]: But do you think you yourself could trick your mind into being motivated by listening to an audiobook?
[00:52:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you could do really anything if you wanted to like if you wanted to try it and if you wanted to
[00:52:56] [SPEAKER_00]: You know exercise your brain in a different way. Absolutely try it, but I don't know
[00:53:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It's something to be cool to just kind of see how your body reacts to it
[00:53:05] [SPEAKER_02]: It's interesting how different everybody is in this rotation in terms of how they want to feel on a start that
[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Start day
[00:53:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I guess how they want to prepare on a start day because you've got the guys like
[00:53:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Logan or George who you know are just like zero to a hundred on a start day in terms of their intensity
[00:53:22] [SPEAKER_02]: And then you have people like you and Bryce who like at least we hear Bryce is pretty
[00:53:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Mellow and pretty relaxed on a start day and then you like I mean for people who haven't heard this story a couple weeks ago
[00:53:33] [SPEAKER_02]: When you're making your start you walk by us. We're standing on the field and you're like what's up?
[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Like we're talking on the mic today, etc. Etc. And the two of us are looking around
[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_02]: We're like are we talking to him right now?
[00:53:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Are we gonna get ripped by somebody from the team so like it's very different how all you guys prepare?
[00:53:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's interesting. Yeah, and I will say this I have gotten a lot better with that
[00:53:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I think early on like in college
[00:53:56] [SPEAKER_00]: It was maybe a little bit of the psycho like don't talk when I got my headphones in type of deal
[00:54:03] [SPEAKER_00]: But I just think the more and the longer that you do it
[00:54:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, you know, we talked about this with people at the Mariners. It's just kind of like
[00:54:10] [SPEAKER_00]: You kind of have to be it still be a human, you know
[00:54:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I can still interact with you if like if I have the pitch or not
[00:54:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think I've gotten better at like locking in when you need to lock in and it makes the days
[00:54:22] [SPEAKER_00]: It makes just helps your mind not be so fatigued at the end of the day
[00:54:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Is it a thing? Is it just overthinking if you if you like if you close everyone out too early
[00:54:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Are you just spending too much time thinking about your start and perhaps you can you know
[00:54:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Like you said you exhaust yourself that way by like running through a simulation of what the what the starts gonna look like too
[00:54:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Many times and then you get out there and you're like man
[00:54:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I'm already like I'm already tired. I'm more like my brain hurts like this isn't this doesn't feel natural to me
[00:54:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think you're just expending energy that you don't need to like do you really need to be locked in as soon as you wake up during the day?
[00:55:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like I kind of like as many times as many starts as you're gonna make during a day
[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And as long as the baseball season is like it's nice to wake up and like enjoy a little bit of the day
[00:55:09] [SPEAKER_00]: And then like when you head to the field, then it's like okay
[00:55:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Like now it's time to start getting into that mode like I know that I can lock it in when I need to
[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I can kind of cut up with some of you guys or make jokes with some of the other guys
[00:55:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's gonna be okay, you know
[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_03]: So when does that start for you? What time what time of the day is that that you're like that you're like
[00:55:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably like whenever after I get lunch and it's like kind of that down period
[00:55:33] [SPEAKER_00]: But like when I'm getting ready to head to the field and it's like when I pull into the field like
[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm probably ready to go and like once we get to like the starting pitchers meeting
[00:55:41] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like all right. It's it's time to it's time to get ready
[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm curious what I want to take you back a little bit earlier on into your Mariners career
[00:55:51] [SPEAKER_02]: What your first conversation was like with the pitching group because we've talked to a couple of guys
[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Especially in the bullpen who have talked about how when they sat down with the Mariners pitching group that they're really straightforward with them
[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_02]: And they talk about we already like the stuff you have don't worry about changing up your entire arsenal
[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Just maybe throw this pitch a little bit more this pitch a little bit more ahead and counts like when you first sat down with the Mariners pitching group
[00:56:15] [SPEAKER_02]: What do they tell you?
[00:56:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I remember you know being at the hotel in
[00:56:21] [SPEAKER_00]: 2020 it was the outside and this was the spring training whatever we had before and I'll sit now with
[00:56:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Max who's our old pitching coordinator and we were just kind of going through everything like these are your numbers on
[00:56:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Your certain your pitches. This is what it would do right now in the major leagues and
[00:56:38] [SPEAKER_00]: For us at school like we had the technology
[00:56:41] [SPEAKER_00]: We didn't quite go into the depths that the Mariners do or I mean as we've all learned about like what the numbers actually are
[00:56:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And so it was like wow, you know, it's like there's different
[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Strategies of like all right just because this pitch has this numbers we need to throw it here and then
[00:56:57] [SPEAKER_00]: the whole like
[00:56:59] [SPEAKER_00]: OO's and 1-1s. It's like as a pitcher your whole life like you always understood like okay
[00:57:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I need to get ahead like and when I get ahead and I'm throwing more strikes like I'm probably gonna be more successful
[00:57:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And so but just seeing like the numbers lay down in front of you
[00:57:14] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like okay. Well in this count. It's this and then if I get behind it's this it's like, okay
[00:57:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm just gonna try to throw strikes and if I do that then everything will be good
[00:57:23] [SPEAKER_00]: But having that initial conversation that kind of started everything as much as I know now
[00:57:28] [SPEAKER_03]: It's uh, it's been really cool. What was do you remember what the first usage tweak was like the biggest
[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Change you had to do going from college to pro
[00:57:37] [SPEAKER_00]: So the biggest thing the first thing we want to do was start to throw like the two fastball
[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_00]: So that was a big thing in college. I threw the same grip
[00:57:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know when I would go open the zone
[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It would kind of be more true and ride more when I would go down
[00:57:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Armside it would run and so max was like you have the ability to have a really good
[00:57:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Both heater and it's like we think that can make you, you know, really really good
[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And so early on we tried to do the same grip and just manipulate it
[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_00]: But then as soon as we switch to like the two-seam grip that's when things got like a lot easier because the shape's got more distinct
[00:58:14] [SPEAKER_03]: How do you feel like your evolution as a pitcher has been in your now four years in the Mariners org? I
[00:58:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Think it never ends
[00:58:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Like just I think you know who I was two years ago is not who I am now and the same could be said in two years from now
[00:58:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the thing that I've learned most is like you always need to be trying to adapt and evolve
[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_00]: like you always need to be open to new ideas and new pitches and new grips because like
[00:58:42] [SPEAKER_00]: You're always trying to push that envelope and I'm a guy that I'm gonna use every possible resource or every possible
[00:58:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Q to try to get better. So I just think like you're always trying that
[00:58:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Are you the best fielding pitcher in the organization by the way? I
[00:58:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Remember that play from your debut by the way like the Gresham ball up the line you dive flat on your stomach
[00:59:05] [SPEAKER_02]: You bear hand the ball you back flip it to first. I remember watching that. I was like whoa
[00:59:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Like how often do you see a pitcher do that?
[00:59:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Like is it when you guys do PfPs and spring training or guy stand around like God Emerson's gonna make us look bad again
[00:59:16] [SPEAKER_02]: These drills I don't think so
[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that clip helped me out a ton because after that was probably a couple rough ones that didn't look so great
[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_00]: The one in Colorado where Ty ran me over that was a tough one and the one against Chicago
[00:59:30] [SPEAKER_00]: With they hit the kind of the one in between I had to run over
[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_00]: I was I was telling Ty after the game because I kind of like stumbled and dove and I was expecting to get hit again
[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I was like Ty you kind of scarred me a little bit there brother
[00:59:45] [SPEAKER_02]: So who's the best one then if it's not you who's the best fielding pitcher?
[00:59:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. I mean, I think I think all the guys are surprisingly athletic
[00:59:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Like they make the play like they're really accurate with their throws like it's a pretty good group
[00:59:59] [SPEAKER_03]: What does it mean to you to get to share an organization with I'd say Logan Gilbert and George Kirby?
[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Specifically because you guys were all sort of cut from the same mold with the same idea when the team drafted you
[01:00:10] [SPEAKER_03]: First round right-handed power pitcher
[01:00:12] [SPEAKER_03]: So what does it mean to for all of you guys to come up in the organization together and all you know
[01:00:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll try and pitch the Mariners to success
[01:00:21] [SPEAKER_00]: It's special. It really is. I mean, I just think that
[01:00:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Starting you know back when we did and as much time as we've been together and kind of seeing
[01:00:31] [SPEAKER_00]: You know their success and learning who they are as a person as a player
[01:00:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And just watching them grow man
[01:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's been cool and it's been really special to do it with with all the guys as much time as you know
[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You get to spend with each other you really do become like family and to be able to go out and you know
[01:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Do the best you can for the organization and try to win games man. It is awesome
[01:00:55] [SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to put into words, and I'm really really grateful to be a part of it
[01:00:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Do you play a lot of golf with those guys?
[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
[01:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Played a good bout of golf
[01:01:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I know you're really good and we hear Kirby's really good who wins more often
[01:01:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Kirby I've never beat Kirby one-on-one. We never played one-on-one either, but Kirby I think he's always outshot me
[01:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: He's just a really solid player man
[01:01:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Can we get a golf power ranking guys in the order?
[01:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I think
[01:01:23] [SPEAKER_00]: So from who I've played with
[01:01:26] [SPEAKER_00]: George is one for sure. I would say
[01:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably maybe me or who is a tie depending on like who's putting better that day
[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Who strikes the ball beautifully though like it's a real fluid swing everything
[01:01:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I've played golf with Cal a couple times and he's probably maybe a little bit below and then Logan is probably at the bottom
[01:01:50] [SPEAKER_02]: That's what we heard about Logan in fact Logan was telling us in spring training
[01:01:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes I like
[01:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Can't leave I can't leave brash out brash is in there too. Yeah, brash is really fun to play with
[01:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Is he pretty good? Yeah, really good
[01:02:04] [SPEAKER_03]: So where's the ranking I
[01:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Think they might get mad at me for so I would say that like me brash and we were kind in the same bucket of like
[01:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's playing better that day because if I'm not driving it well, I have no chance
[01:02:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I remember Logan saying us in spring training, you know sometimes before a start day
[01:02:25] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll actually like to go play golf because he said it's relaxing
[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_02]: But he said I'm not very good, but I like to go play those were his words not ours
[01:02:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he is fun though. He's fun to be out there. I can't imagine like I'm trying to think of myself golfing before a start day
[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like I just get more pissed off
[01:02:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you could ball ends up in the water and I'm just like, you know
[01:02:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I shoot a I you know
[01:02:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I probably shoot like a 60 over if I was out there on a golf course and
[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_03]: You know going into my start day
[01:02:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I would I would do that as motivation not as a relax not as something that's actually like relaxing
[01:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Or you can go out there and fire a high 70s and die here we go. It's gonna be a day
[01:03:04] [SPEAKER_03]: If if I'm shooting par I'm going to play mini golf instead. My putting is fine
[01:03:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I have no problem putting it just getting the ball anything beyond like 15 yards. Yeah, so
[01:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's cool that I've heard a couple people do that before though
[01:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Like just to be able to go out take a big chunk of the day to not think about the starter pitching
[01:03:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I think that's really beneficial. Do you have a day before start thing that you do?
[01:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing in particular. I mean obviously you go through all your prep your lifting or whatever, but
[01:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Most of the time it's just kind of the same stuff. I don't like the I don't I just don't really like to play golf today before
[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm weird about certain things
[01:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: How long have you been playing golf?
[01:03:44] [SPEAKER_00]: So I used to play a good bit when I was a kid
[01:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: My dad would take me and my brother out and we would go play and do whatever and so like even then like I loved it
[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_00]: We just didn't have a lot of time for it
[01:03:55] [SPEAKER_00]: We're always traveling we're always playing baseball and
[01:03:58] [SPEAKER_00]: After my freshman year at Georgia a lot of the guys stayed and trained and worked out over the summer
[01:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's when we played a lot and that's why I was like, okay, like I really do love the sport
[01:04:07] [SPEAKER_03]: That's break yourself down as a golfer. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I think I would say my strength is probably
[01:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably putting like that's why I'm gonna give myself the best chance
[01:04:20] [SPEAKER_00]: The driver is hit or miss as I think with everyone that plays golf like that's not a thing
[01:04:26] [SPEAKER_00]: If I'm hitting it in play in bounds, I got myself a good chance because like I feel like I have pretty good feel on the greens
[01:04:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I like that. I like that breakdown
[01:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: You know you mentioned what you do before a start by the way
[01:04:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I've always been curious about this like how many days throughout a week
[01:04:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Will you actually lift and work out because I can't imagine it's every day especially on a start day
[01:04:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But like like how do you break that up?
[01:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I always do a lower and upper and then it's like called like a primer lift
[01:04:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Like of the day before so I like to go the next the day after the start
[01:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It used to be kind of a lower that day, but then I was alright
[01:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's try it and see just what happens if we give ourselves like a full day to recover
[01:05:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Like how's the body gonna feel and I always it felt like probably the past two years
[01:05:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Of giving yourself that day like my I could get so much better lower lift because my body felt better
[01:05:17] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'll go lower and then normally on day three would be my bullpen
[01:05:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll go upper body after that day after the bullpen. It's like an off-day kind of
[01:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe like a really good mobility day to kind of flush everything out day before as a primer lift where you're getting in there
[01:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: You're trying to move things quick trying to move things explosive and then start
[01:05:38] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, how do you deal with being sore from a workout during a start?
[01:05:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I would if I was a starter
[01:05:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I would think to stay away from upper body any any time close to a start
[01:05:48] [SPEAKER_03]: So last thing you want to do is get out there and you're like man
[01:05:51] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like sure shoulders are aching from that workout yesterday. I can't be doing that
[01:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's about it really is because I think as you go throughout the season
[01:06:00] [SPEAKER_00]: You know like the intensity that you can go how many sets you need to do and so but your body also gets used to it
[01:06:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So once you get to a really good point in the season
[01:06:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like you can go on there and lift you can go lower and like the next day
[01:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: You're not really sore just because of the stress that it's kind of like adapted to throughout the year
[01:06:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you have like a big
[01:06:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you have a bay like after a start?
[01:06:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you do cardio to loosen things up too?
[01:06:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Because I know Castillo does that a day after the start will put the headphones on and they'll just be jogging everywhere
[01:06:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's cool. Have something like that. No, I kind of wish I did
[01:06:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of wish I had something every day to go out there
[01:06:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think the day after I want to just move. I want to move as much as I can
[01:06:42] [SPEAKER_00]: If I'm at the stadium probably try to get on the treadmill do like an incline walk
[01:06:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Like just go through everything normal
[01:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: But also kind of like limiting the amount of throws and stress for that day if you had an off-dash
[01:06:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Just go hiking you've been hiking or play golf, you know, yeah
[01:06:57] [SPEAKER_03]: You could do all of your own there. No golf cart allowed though if you're playing golf
[01:07:00] [SPEAKER_02]: You gotta be right need a walk. You need a walk. Yeah, that's a good idea
[01:07:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you're not you're not running a hundred flights of stairs like the weeds or whatever it is
[01:07:07] [SPEAKER_00]: No, but that's kind of a cool routine if you think about it
[01:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty cool like every stadium you go to like you're in there
[01:07:14] [SPEAKER_00]: You get to see it like you're just I think the beauty of like being like in an empty stadium too
[01:07:20] [SPEAKER_00]: There's something about it that it just kind of it's really cool
[01:07:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh
[01:07:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Even for us like when we show up to the field early and like you could hear a pin drop in the place before all
[01:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: The fans show up like even just kind of standing out there on the field. We think it's cool because like it's cool, right?
[01:07:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's something peaceful about it
[01:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's when I think you see guys like walking around in the outfield putting their headphones in or just being outside
[01:07:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like man like this is sick. Yeah, it's like whole place to yourself
[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know as a kid could you ever imagined I have this whole major league field to myself where I can just get out there and
[01:07:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Like do whatever I want to do without
[01:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Not that you don't enjoy the the screaming home crowd
[01:07:57] [SPEAKER_02]: But like beforehand when you get like the like you said the peacefulness of it. It's crazy
[01:08:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It is I've never could imagine as a kid you'd be here, but here we are
[01:08:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
[01:08:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And we see the difference too because Louise is a guy who runs but Logan will go meditate instead
[01:08:11] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not out there running
[01:08:13] [SPEAKER_03]: He just goes a what sit sits and walks essentially in the outfield all the stadiums like completely empty
[01:08:19] [SPEAKER_03]: It just seeing the variance of that. I think I think it's pretty cool. Would there be any one?
[01:08:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Thing that that sticks out to you that you'd want to add to your to your routine that you think one day would be beneficial to you. I
[01:08:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Really don't know. I think just
[01:08:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Watching other guys though how they go about certain things and it's like hey like does that help you?
[01:08:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Like do you feel really good doing that?
[01:08:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm really not sure but I like we're at right now
[01:08:49] [SPEAKER_00]: But again like there might be something too much from now. We're like, alright
[01:08:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I want to do this. This is what I need to do. This helps me and you go from there
[01:08:57] [SPEAKER_02]: We usually wrap up with five fun questions, but I've got one more additional one for you before we get to that
[01:09:02] [SPEAKER_02]: You say you're pretty good at golf which we've heard did I also hear you're pretty good at ping pong?
[01:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Ping pong yeah, we play a lot in spring training, but like really pickleball
[01:09:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Really? Oh, yeah, I got to play it a good bit the past two years. That's uh, that's something
[01:09:20] [SPEAKER_00]: That's really fun something I look forward to doing the offseason
[01:09:22] [SPEAKER_03]: So I was in case you didn't know Lyle was a very very good ping pong player
[01:09:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Not bad's probably an understatement so I always consider myself like like I'll never brag about anything
[01:09:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm usually like reserved with all that stuff ping pong is the one thing in life
[01:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Or I'll actually puff my chest out and be like yeah, I don't lose
[01:09:44] [SPEAKER_02]: That's like my one thing just played a lot as a kid. Yeah, we had a table growing up
[01:09:49] [SPEAKER_02]: so I would play a lot and then I got to school and
[01:09:52] [SPEAKER_02]: There was tables at school and my friends quickly learned
[01:09:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, this isn't any fun because I'll lose like 21 to 4 or whatever
[01:09:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Were you the best at school? Like was there anybody in there that was like alright?
[01:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't beat this guy or like you just beat everybody that walked in yeah pretty much like I mean
[01:10:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I had a couple friends that would give me a game or two
[01:10:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Every now and then but it usually like it usually ended up being kind of a landslide
[01:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: So like what's your ping pong strength? Are you like a spin guy or are you just forehand? It's automatic just spiked
[01:10:22] [SPEAKER_02]: You know what it is. I just don't like mess up basically
[01:10:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Like if you want to call it being a pusher in tennis is what they call it
[01:10:30] [SPEAKER_02]: My whole thing is like I'll just keep rallying back and rallying back like every now and then I could like
[01:10:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Hit a pretty decent forehand pretty hard
[01:10:37] [SPEAKER_02]: But my whole thing is like I won't miss shots and I'll just keep the rallies going until somebody else messes up
[01:10:43] [SPEAKER_00]: So do you ever go for the kill shot though? Like if they leave it up like are you you're going for it every now and then
[01:10:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like yeah, if there's one left right in the air, I'll go for it
[01:10:53] [SPEAKER_02]: But you know how Kirby you know how Kirby says I hate walking guys even more than I hate giving up hits
[01:10:59] [SPEAKER_02]: That's almost like what it's for what it's like for me and ping pong
[01:11:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I could hit a hard shot if I wanted to but the amount I hate hitting a ball into the net and losing a point
[01:11:07] [SPEAKER_02]: And messing up a point drives me nuts
[01:11:09] [SPEAKER_02]: So that's why I'll like keep the rallies going. Okay
[01:11:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Love it. What's the play maybe spring training one time. I was gonna say maybe if
[01:11:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe in spring training next next spring at the if the clubhouse clears out one day
[01:11:22] [SPEAKER_02]: We can we can hop on and get a game try that'd be sick. We should do it
[01:11:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Would you say you're the best ping pong player in the club house? No, no, no
[01:11:29] [SPEAKER_00]: No, we did the tournament I was
[01:11:31] [SPEAKER_00]: We did the tournament two years ago. I can't remember who won but we had some good players
[01:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Sneaky good players who would like you would you would kind of ask about hey you want to be in the tournament?
[01:11:41] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't really know and then they go in there and they they'd get you pretty good
[01:11:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Flex was really good
[01:11:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's that likes could flexon he could really in the ball. Yeah, like he he was really really solid
[01:11:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Hmm. Well, I remember asking
[01:11:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Ty Adcock back in the spring
[01:11:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought I remembered him saying yeah like Emerson and Kirby kind of dominate the clubhouse
[01:12:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I think me and curb just kind of always have to be doing something
[01:12:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And so like we go in during camp if the table is open like me and curb Ryan
[01:12:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we just go back and forth and like we'll play I mean three or four games in a row
[01:12:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's every day too, and it's like curve like let's see who's got it today
[01:12:19] [SPEAKER_00]: One day George will because when George gets his field going it's like all right
[01:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: This will be this will be tough because he'll then he'll just get you but it's fun
[01:12:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Emerson were you in the three-point shooting contest? I forget if I saw your name on that board. I skipped out on that one
[01:12:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Why not I just I don't know I just I don't know I just was like I was like let me watch this one
[01:12:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll watch this event this time. Did you play basketball?
[01:12:44] [SPEAKER_02]: But are you gonna be in the next year?
[01:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: So I did I played a little basketball middle school nothing in high school. Um, I don't know what we're gonna have event next year
[01:12:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they'll maybe they'll let us do a pickleball tournament probably not but I think we took a group this year
[01:12:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And I guys kind of enjoyed doing it
[01:13:01] [SPEAKER_03]: If they let you do a dunk competition instead because you're so tall do you think you do a little bit better?
[01:13:07] [SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't be able to do anything cool, but I definitely think I would be able to dump
[01:13:11] [SPEAKER_00]: No, who would win a dunk contest on the Mariners?
[01:13:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Who Leo? Yeah, can really jump
[01:13:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Who we have JP you think Logan's got some hops in them
[01:13:21] [SPEAKER_02]: see
[01:13:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Logan's tall, but I don't know if he could like
[01:13:26] [SPEAKER_02]: What's his agility like like could he do any type of like ridiculous donk?
[01:13:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you do anything other than just kind of jump up and flush it in
[01:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And I bet we could we could probably get a good dunk in there. It's a good one
[01:13:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'd say I'd say who's a sleeper in this because he's such a good athlete Logan
[01:13:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like has centered like center jump qualities like Shaq
[01:13:46] [SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't need to jump as far so he just that's that's where he kind of leaves it at
[01:13:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but what I feel like you get up there a little bit do a window
[01:13:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd get up maybe when no one on alley you
[01:13:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Bump the ball depends on the ball. I can palm the ball
[01:14:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I got a really good chance, but if I lose it obviously be tough
[01:14:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Al you pop the backboard boom
[01:14:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Who knows right?
[01:14:08] [SPEAKER_02]: You know that three-point contest was actually crazy in spring training
[01:14:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I remember we were there for at least for one of the later rounds and
[01:14:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I think you were out there watching
[01:14:18] [SPEAKER_02]: JP hit what 15 in a row or something at one point that was crazy
[01:14:22] [SPEAKER_02]: I remember getting out on video is like, what do we just watch he's out there in his crocs
[01:14:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Starts slow and then he legitimately just starts draining them
[01:14:29] [SPEAKER_00]: It's cool too with that kind of stuff because like you would think like alright
[01:14:32] [SPEAKER_00]: There's no way this guy's any good at basketball and next thing you know like he'll get a rhythm going right man
[01:14:37] [SPEAKER_03]: It's got pretty good athletes. Yeah, how many three would do threes would you make in a row?
[01:14:42] [SPEAKER_00]: If you gave me a you gave me a couple days before I think I could put up a good performance
[01:14:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I mean probably not a Casey Lawrence type performance. I think he ended up winning at all
[01:14:52] [SPEAKER_00]: But he also played basketball so like but seeing him out there
[01:14:56] [SPEAKER_00]: It was sick man because he's here and I give him a hard time all the time and he's a stinky good athlete, too
[01:15:02] [SPEAKER_02]: His speech at the end was funny. He's like I want to thank my college basketball coach for making me play baseball instead
[01:15:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's funny man. He's great
[01:15:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Last thing by the way before we get to the five questions
[01:15:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Like did you start playing pickleball during cove it or did it happen later? I think it was tour towards the end of 22
[01:15:21] [SPEAKER_00]: My best friend's dad got into it really big and so they had a group like back home that would play on every like
[01:15:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I think Tuesday night or whatever was like come on out
[01:15:31] [SPEAKER_00]: So I got a couple paddles went out there and like next thing, you know
[01:15:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Like you'd play for two or three hours. You know like this is sick, you know
[01:15:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I get spun because like all the games are really good
[01:15:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Like you can play from like anybody can let him play with you. So
[01:15:46] [SPEAKER_00]: If I get chances in the offseason, I'm normally on the courts a little bit
[01:15:51] [SPEAKER_02]: That's I was gonna say it's a little bit better than tennis in the sense where you can play for longer
[01:15:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Because you don't have to run around quite as much. Yeah. Yeah, and you can be either back up front
[01:15:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's it's a really cool game. Mm-hmm
[01:16:02] [SPEAKER_03]: All right
[01:16:03] [SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna wrap up with five fun questions that we like to get every player's take on so the first one
[01:16:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Emerson your go-to pregame and post game meal is what?
[01:16:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Go to pregame some sort of sandwich
[01:16:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Sandwich chip something light maybe a smoothie to add on post game. I would love a steak
[01:16:22] [SPEAKER_00]: steak mashed potatoes
[01:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Salad everything
[01:16:26] [SPEAKER_03]: What kind of sandwich are we like PB and J sandwich?
[01:16:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Are we talking a turkey sandwich like a sandwich well turkey and ham sandwich maybe with some bacon some avocado something light
[01:16:37] [SPEAKER_03]: That's light
[01:16:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think so
[01:16:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Just a sandwich that's not bad some chips. That's the avocado. I think makes it a little heavy. Okay
[01:16:45] [SPEAKER_00]: All right, well then yeah, but if it's like you your life makes the sandwich, you know, you're a pro athlete
[01:16:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not so you could probably digest it a little bit better than I can
[01:16:54] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna burn it off really quick, right? Yeah
[01:16:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Are you getting it from like Subway or Jersey Mike's or something like that?
[01:17:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure you're making it at home. I kind of vary I've gone from Subway. I've gone from Jersey Mike's Panera a little bit
[01:17:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Everywhere that makes sense
[01:17:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, second second question for you three favorite TV shows ever or what oh perfect prison break number one
[01:17:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Blacklist number two for me and then number three
[01:17:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I this is not in any order because I know people get mad if I really enjoy watching the office
[01:17:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Hmm there we go, but yeah, I have not seen
[01:17:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Prison break or blacklist would you you recommend it? It sounds like they just put prison break back on Netflix. Oh
[01:17:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Prison break is a nominal. Yeah, I watched I think like early high school
[01:17:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe like eighth and ninth grade my buddy was like this is the greatest show ever and I was like, yeah
[01:17:47] [SPEAKER_03]: You're probably right. Hmm. Yeah, my brother forced me to watch that show and I
[01:17:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Great minute step. I'm indebted to him because it was it was fantastic. Would you put it in a top three?
[01:17:58] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't think so. Okay. Well, I'm very guys are probably you guys are probably a little bit more diverse in the TV shows than I am
[01:18:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't I don't know about that. I just think so I'm like a big game of thrones person
[01:18:10] [SPEAKER_03]: So like I would probably just do Game of Thrones one Game of Thrones two Game of Thrones three
[01:18:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Just because there's so many episodes
[01:18:17] [SPEAKER_03]: I just find a way to fit the series and all my top three some I'm proud
[01:18:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm a little biased in that sense, but prison breaks up there. I mean if it was top 10
[01:18:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it would be in there suits has gone up
[01:18:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Gotten way up there for me too. Okay. Yeah
[01:18:35] [SPEAKER_02]: He's lying he watches a lot of TV honestly
[01:18:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I'm that diverse with the TV
[01:18:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I watch with this question done for me if anything is started to get a list of TV shows from other people that
[01:18:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Recommend certain things like whether it's yeah blacklist or prison break or I think it was revamped scooter
[01:18:51] [SPEAKER_02]: That suggested suits and there's been a couple others too that like I never would have thought to watch
[01:18:55] [SPEAKER_02]: And now I've got a list of things that say alright, maybe I'll give these a shot. Yeah
[01:19:00] [SPEAKER_02]: cool
[01:19:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Next question. What would you be doing if you were not playing baseball?
[01:19:06] [SPEAKER_00]: probably coaching
[01:19:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Is that fair like is that yeah, that's it can I still go on that route?
[01:19:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you could could is there anything else not sports related that you would be doing?
[01:19:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Anything at the beach would be cool. I love the beach anything down there
[01:19:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know like
[01:19:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Anything just I love the whole environment of the scene
[01:19:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So if it wasn't for baseball to get away it'd be down there
[01:19:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Emerson would just be a need be a character in Baywatch
[01:19:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Could be a lifeguard. Yeah, you just kind of have like a you know chairs and umbrellas type business set those up every day
[01:19:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Get a really nice tan. Yeah start a tiki bar. Let's see
[01:19:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Now we're talking that sounds fun now. We're talking. Yeah
[01:19:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Sound like such a bad life
[01:19:55] [SPEAKER_00]: No tiki tiki bar every day. Watch the sunset. Yeah, no coach is a good answer though
[01:20:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I think I think what we're hearing though is is you'd be around baseball even if you weren't playing I think so
[01:20:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I would try that first and see what happens. Mm-hmm
[01:20:10] [SPEAKER_02]: All right fourth question best and worst baseball road trip you've ever taken and and worse can include some minor league horror story
[01:20:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I think worst is
[01:20:21] [SPEAKER_00]: In double-a we would do like the Midland Amarillo series and that's like 12 hours from Little Rock
[01:20:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And so like that one was tough because it was always in July or August. It was blazing hot
[01:20:32] [SPEAKER_00]: So that's the worst the best
[01:20:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to think which one do I really like
[01:20:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Going to I mean
[01:20:46] [SPEAKER_00]: The Texas series is really cool like Colorado was cool for me because it was snowing that weekend. So that was really sick
[01:20:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Texas stadiums really really nice
[01:20:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably one of those two. I haven't been on many time
[01:21:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this the snowing atmosphere in baseball is pretty cool
[01:21:03] [SPEAKER_03]: So I would imagine you don't get to see a whole lot of snow
[01:21:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like you we woke up and like the streets are covered with especially for me
[01:21:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we don't see much snow ever and it was like this is cool
[01:21:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the roads and people are that I guess up north they get mad at saying it but it's like snow on the roads
[01:21:18] [SPEAKER_00]: It's sick
[01:21:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
[01:21:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'm I'm blank and did you pitch in that snow game? I'm trying to remember Louie pitch the first one
[01:21:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And I pitched the the second game of the doubleheader. I think on Sunday, right because we got
[01:21:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I think we got canceled on Friday because of the weather
[01:21:34] [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. I was trying to remember like pitching through snow
[01:21:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you'd have a different take on it rather than just Louis. You enjoy it
[01:21:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Louis shoved and it was freezing cold that night
[01:21:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Lowe, you remember that was the first the first roof complaining. Oh, yeah
[01:21:50] [SPEAKER_02]: We're big like
[01:21:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Every stadium should have a roof in Major League Baseball. Well, aside from like oh, so you're so you're on this train
[01:21:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Like put a roof on stadiums. I think so because then it takes weather out of play, right?
[01:22:01] [SPEAKER_02]: exactly
[01:22:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like like okay if you're like what we say is if you're Wrigley or Fenway or one of those absolute historic stadiums fine
[01:22:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Like it might be weird to have a roof on those stadiums
[01:22:13] [SPEAKER_02]: But the fact Colorado got built somewhat recently last 20 years and they're like well, it snows here in April
[01:22:18] [SPEAKER_02]: We don't need like let's just leave it off
[01:22:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Why?
[01:22:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm kind of on that train if you can have a roof
[01:22:26] [SPEAKER_03]: I think you should have one yeah and T-Mobile Park is shown you can still have a beautiful outdoor stadium and
[01:22:31] [SPEAKER_03]: It is possible to have both it is so cool
[01:22:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Like the difference with the roof on that stadium and not it's night and day right. Yeah night and day
[01:22:40] [SPEAKER_02]: It's unbelievable
[01:22:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Like the roof is
[01:22:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Important because it rains all the time so if you have to play inside you play inside
[01:22:47] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, like when the roof's open and it's summertime
[01:22:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It's amazing when you walk out there on a day game at T-Mobile and the weather's perfect. You're like wow this place is sick
[01:22:57] [SPEAKER_03]: 100% absolute gem. All right last one Emerson. I think I have a guess what this might be
[01:23:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I could be wrong, but I'll let you answer it anyway. Your favorite all-time baseball player is who?
[01:23:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Chipper Jones
[01:23:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, Chipper Jones. He was the guy in the like he was the guy in the yard that you were mocking the back batting stance every time
[01:23:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Cool to watch him play. I mean like a legend like when I think of watching the Braves
[01:23:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I think of Chipper Jones
[01:23:30] [SPEAKER_03]: How far off was I thinking about when you've mentioned Gordon back him a couple times?
[01:23:35] [SPEAKER_00]: He's up there. He really is I mean without growing up seeing them have success
[01:23:40] [SPEAKER_00]: You know you turn on the TV they're in the college world series and Gordon's going off
[01:23:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Like there's a video on YouTube with Gordon hitting his like last home run
[01:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it fully feel and I think I've watched that 30 or 40 times like it's so cool man. It's so sick
[01:23:57] [SPEAKER_00]: That's really cool
[01:23:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Well Emerson, this has been fantastic
[01:24:01] [SPEAKER_03]: We hope to see up in the big leagues soon enough so we can catch up again in person
[01:24:04] [SPEAKER_03]: But until then man, this has been awesome. Thanks so much
[01:24:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely guys had a blast
[01:24:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Really really hope you guys enjoyed that conversation with Emerson Hancock. We definitely did it's so funny with these starting pitchers as
[01:24:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Intense as all of them are during their start days and when they're on the mound
[01:24:22] [SPEAKER_02]: They are some of the nicest dudes when they're off the mound like from Emerson Hancock to Logan Gilbert to Bryce Miller and others
[01:24:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Hard as nails on the mound and nicest can be off the mound
[01:24:33] [SPEAKER_02]: It's it's pretty cool and Emerson was exactly like that and we had a blast talking with them
[01:24:38] [SPEAKER_02]: So
