Episode 165: Finding New Ways To Be Disappointed In The Mariners

Lyle and TJ kick off the episode with an emphatic review of the Mariners series against the Yankees (1:33), before reflecting on how some current news could've been different if the Mariners operated differently in the offseason (30:19). They go down 'On The Farm' (47:51), select a 'Russell Wilson Umpire Of The Week' (56:16), and close out the show with 'Speak Your Mind' (1:00:08).

[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_01]: We have a Russell Wilson umpire of the week,

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I think this is the best time of the sports calendar,

[00:00:34] [SPEAKER_03]: especially once October starts.

[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_03]: We're right in that season.

[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_03]: So if you need a spot to go watch all the games, head over there.

[00:01:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's get it rolling.

[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer Podcast,

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_01]: part of the Just Baseball Podcast Network recording on Thursday evening,

[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_01]: September 19th.

[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought you described it beautifully this week while watching this Yankee series.

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: The reaction you put out today on social is fantastic.

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It's getting to the point of the season where we have to make ourselves

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: have fun watching this baseball team.

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And the way you've described the mindset of how most Mariners fans brains

[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_01]: are going at this point in the season, the way to describe it early on set

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Fleming, I thought was perfect.

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, would you like to describe to the masses what that is?

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Sure.

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_03]: So early on set Fleming is what you could call a diagnosable disease.

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_03]: I can't take all the credit for this.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_03]: My, my brother is the one who's put this term out into the universe.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Often he uses it toward me because of the way I'll often react to watching

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Mariner games, but it is essentially saying you are in the early stages of

[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_03]: turning into Frank, the tank.

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_03]: You're not full Frank, the tank, but like we're, we're seeing signs that

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_03]: you're going down that path and me, maybe you, you can speak for yourself.

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_03]: A lot of Mariners fans.

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I think we're dealing with some early onset Fleming right now.

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Think about this in that social post today that we put out where we did our

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_03]: reaction to the Mariners Yankees series, which was totally off the rails today.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_03]: By the way, it was honestly maybe one of my favorite ones I've ever recorded.

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_03]: The fact we have got a bunch of Mariners fans in the replies saying they would

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_03]: actually rather eat a double chunk chocolate cookie from Costco instead of

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_03]: have them make the playoffs is where we're at.

[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, cookies only two 50, right?

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_01]: $2 and 50 cents versus like relying on the Mariners to win their next 10 games in a

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_01]: row.

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, is it like for some people that's not too tough a decision?

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess a double chunk chocolate cookie does bring you guaranteed happiness

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_03]: where you have to bank on happiness for the Mariners to get into the playoffs.

[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_01]: If the Mariners make the playoffs, the odds of happiness are, I would say right

[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_01]: now if they made it, which I haven't, what's the fan graphs?

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That's probably now 4% maybe right now.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I would say the Mariners, if they made the playoffs would had a 6% chance, give or

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_01]: take.

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, double chunk chocolate cookie, 100% happiness guarantee.

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: We're not even including the rest of the Costco menu, which by the way, some people

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_01]: skipped right past the double chunk chocolate cookie and went right to the

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: chicken bake.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they did.

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Again, it's a tough call, chicken bake or a double chunk chocolate cookie.

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, were there any specific plays, Lyle, if I were to guess in this series against

[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_01]: the Yankees, I could only imagine which plays could have triggered something like

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_01]: that.

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Hmm.

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.

[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to think if there's any that come to mind.

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_03]: It's tough to say any jump out right off the page.

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it was a pretty well thought series.

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_03]: A lot of good clean ball decision making was on on par.

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, nothing jumps out.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I gotta be honest.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.

[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think that Soto home run on Tuesday was a good start.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that was a good start.

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Reminding, reminding us about why he's actually worth a billion dollars.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: He was auditioning.

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_01]: He was proving in that moment I can hit at T-Mobile Park.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what he was doing right after he walked across the street visiting the

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_01]: box yard where he realized this place is gonna be paying part of my salary in

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Seattle for next season and then walking into the stadium and looking around and

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: like, man, this would be a great place to play.

[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_01]: That'd be a perfect fit here in Seattle.

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_01]: But for right now, I'm playing on a team that's playing for a playoff spot and

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01]: we're going to go win the first two games of this series and celebrate on the

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_01]: fricking field and in the clubhouse.

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, it's been three years in a row now that a team has celebrated a

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_01]: postseason clinching appearance at T-Mobile Park three years in a row.

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_01]: How exciting for the Mariners, right?

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Exciting.

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Hmm.

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_03]: So you had the Yankees here in 2024.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_03]: You had the Rangers do it in 2023.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_03]: You had the Astros in the ALDS in 2022.

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, didn't the A's?

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I wasn't even counting the postseason.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I just meant the Mariners celebration.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Ah, well, you can count the Astros too.

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_03]: I thought that's what you meant is the Astros and the ALDS, but.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Try to think what else.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: That counts too, then it's four.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Didn't the A's back in 2018 officially clinch in Seattle?

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: No, not in a row though.

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, sad.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: You could say it's party town USA, right?

[00:06:22] Yeah.

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_03]: All right.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Sarcasm aside, do we need to just get to the elephant in the room here about a

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_03]: certain play or two that stood out in this series?

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I think Julio should not have gotten picked off third and Wednesday's game.

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not, I can't believe this is, this is a hot take here.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_01]: It was his fault.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, well, here, here's what I, here's what I said.

[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to double down on this.

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I, of course, of course do not blame him for getting out of the way of a thrown bat.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Of course you don't want to get hit with a bat, nor would anybody.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_03]: It's frightening.

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Get out of the way as he did.

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_03]: What on earth he was doing after that?

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I have no idea.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I understand.

[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I heard what he said in the post game presser.

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_03]: I understand that he thought it meant the play was going to be dead and he, he, he,

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_03]: you know, he made a mistake and, and that's why he was kind of walking

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_03]: toward the third base dugout.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Why on earth would you assume that's a dead play?

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Why, why is that just the assumption?

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Like you have got to be thinking in that moment, get back to the base.

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_03]: You think you have to, you would think

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_03]: that gate, like you had to win that game.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_03]: You had to.

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And all of a sudden you've got guys on first and third down a run with nobody out.

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_03]: And like, like you have got to be thinking there, get back to the base.

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Like you can't, you can't fall asleep there.

[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_03]: You just can't.

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, just thinking of where that game is, it's in the 10th inning.

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: You're, you're trailing by a run.

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_01]: You've already lost game one.

[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And you realize, as you said, this was an absolute must win game.

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So as the tying run, you need like time needs to slow to essentially a stop.

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_01]: As you, like you pick up on like a, like a drop of sweat falling off your face or

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: like the pitcher twitching his left wrist.

[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Like literally all of these things, like how hyper focused you have to be

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_01]: realizing what's at stake here.

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And not only did you just need to win the game, your season, essentially on the line

[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: as we talked about in Wednesday's episode, they needed a 10 and two stretch to finish

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the season to make the playoffs.

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: That means they're going to have to win their next nine games in a row to do that.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_01]: They're going to need to sweep the final three series of the season to achieve that

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_01]: mark because of what happened on Wednesday, not allowing any buffer for the rest of

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_01]: your schedule, which stinks.

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: So then to have a, like a mental lapse like that in that big of a moment, I, it's

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: just, it can't happen.

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It's excusable in four, probably five out of the six months of the MLB season.

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: But not in September, not when the team has played the way it has and has been put

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_01]: in the position it currently is trying to make the playoffs.

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_01]: It can't happen in a, in a year that has been among the most frustrating in Mariners

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_01]: history and frustrating for us as fans to have to deal with, to have like sort of a

[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_01]: fitting end to the season like that because of a mental lapse on the base pads where

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_01]: it's essentially just, just wrongly assuming the play, just complete, a complete

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_01]: wrong assumption.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_01]: It's awful.

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how we can't, how you can't blame him.

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: He jumps out of the way.

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_01]: But nothing is stopping you from jumping away from the bat and then running right

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_01]: back to the base, turning and running right back to the base.

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause it wasn't like, yeah, cause it wasn't like he was just standing in the spot where

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_03]: he eventually jumped out of the way to when the bat was thrown again.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Like he's, he's just, it would almost look like he was walking toward the third

[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_03]: base dugout.

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Like again, it was a total assumption that the play was dead and it just can't happen

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_03]: in that situation.

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_03]: And you know what?

[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Like for his talent and as Julio is and as great of a glove as he is and as much as

[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_03]: he's started to turn things around a little bit here in the month of September, he has

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_03]: made some real mistakes on the base pad this year.

[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_03]: And like you think back to that game where he was given a day off early in April

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_03]: against the Cubs.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_03]: He comes in in the ninth inning for 60 seconds, gets picked off at first base to end

[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_03]: the game.

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_03]: You had this one against the Yankees.

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_03]: There's been a couple others throughout the year.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_03]: There has just been some, some things he has done on the base pads that cannot

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_03]: happen.

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I love our comments section because we'll see just some, sometimes it

[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_01]: gets taken too far.

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So we're, we're sitting here frustrated light, right?

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Some people took what happened on Wednesday and bless you guys.

[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you guys can think whatever you want.

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_01]: And when we put out our clip on Thursday morning about which pitcher, hypothetically,

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_01]: if you had to trade a pitcher for a bat, which one you'd be traded.

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I was almost disappointed with the amount of trade suggestions that to trade Julio

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: with them, almost disappointed.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_01]: But there's, there's enough people out there with independent ideas where I can't

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_01]: be too shocked at that.

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's make something clear who is not getting traded because he got picked off

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: a third.

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: What does need to happen is that he is way too talented to be as bad of a base

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_01]: runner as he is go look at the grades based running wise.

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not good.

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_01]: He's too fast.

[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_01]: He's too physical.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_01]: He's too quick for him to be a poor base runner.

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Like something's got to change.

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: You know how Cal Raleigh went to Brian Wu?

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_01]: This season when he was struggling to get through five innings and said, dude, you're

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_01]: a big leaguer.

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Pick it up.

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And what did Wu do?

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he said like the best outside of that start against the Yankees where he got

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: absolutely shelled.

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Did not look like game three starter by the way, Lyle.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Um, but then outside of that start, he's been amazing.

[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_01]: The second half pitched almost as many innings as anyone in baseball in that

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: stretch, which is fantastic.

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So someone like Julio got to do that on the base path.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Pick it up, dude.

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm hmm.

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Head up.

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's go.

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_03]: And while we're on the topic, Randy is not, uh, Randy like is in this circle of

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_03]: blame here too.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_03]: How many times can you chuck a bat throughout a season?

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Like he needs sticky stuff or pine tar or something on his bat on his hands.

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_03]: If he has pine tar on his bat already, he needs more of it because how can this

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_03]: happen so many times?

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_03]: This is by far not the first time this has happened.

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Like keep the bat in your hands.

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a bad at bat to begin with, but then as, as bad as the decision was by

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Julio to not be aware enough in that situation to get back to the base, it

[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_03]: doesn't happen if Randy doesn't chuck the bat, hold the bat.

[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's more of a minor, minor part.

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I think people are going to look at Julio Rodriguez more.

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Randy's is more of a safety thing as opposed to a baseball thing.

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say Randy probably shouldn't be throwing his back cause he's going to

[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_01]: hurt somebody and exactly why Julio had to get out of the way in the first place.

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: So you could say that as a reason for it to all tie in.

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what if Randy's bat flies into the stands?

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's happened.

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That is happening this year, which it should not have.

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Again, it should not happen.

[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And Randy's enough of a pro where, you know, that should not happen.

[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But this really, while sort of just paints a big picture of this Yankees

[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_01]: picture of this Yankees series.

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: The Yankees, I think technically right now still have the best record in the

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_01]: American league and they're going to be playing for it with the guardians down

[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_01]: the stretch run of the season.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: They're good.

[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners are the best pitcher on the mound in each game in the series.

[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_01]: You knew you had to win this series.

[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_01]: You're playing at home where you pitch so well this season and to

[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_01]: come out and lose this series.

[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_01]: You can tell me how much it matters playing 162 games and that's

[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_01]: why you need to play baseball.

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_01]: But unfortunately the Mariners don't get that luxury here in September

[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: with how disappointing they've been this season to get to this point and

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: realize, okay, well we have to win a series and then you just get absolutely

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_01]: clobbered in game one uncompetitive.

[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And then Tim, go ahead.

[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.

[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_03]: No.

[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's the main storyline here.

[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_03]: We can talk about Julio all we want.

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a poor base running decision.

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_03]: We can talk about Randy all we want.

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_03]: He needs to hold onto the bat, but that's the real story here.

[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_03]: The two games they lost.

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Like even though those plays happened and it's incredibly

[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_03]: frustrating that they did in game one.

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, by the way.

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_03]: So add in the Victor Robles play at the plate too.

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It's frustrating as, as frustrating as that was.

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause we're talking about love.

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about decisions.

[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_01]: That was the worst one.

[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to put Julio's ahead of Robles's.

[00:15:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, Julio's was the worst result, not a decision like a physical decision,

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_03]: but like, okay.

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you say being aggressive is worse than essentially falling asleep at the wheel?

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I just think they're different because Robles made a concerned

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: effort to sprint off the base.

[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Julio did out of because of the bat.

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, anyway, here's the point.

[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Here's the point.

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_03]: That was a bad decision by Robles in game one.

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things because the Mariners lost by nine

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_03]: runs.

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the Julio base running decision was, was not a good one.

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And Randy throwing the bat did not help.

[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_03]: But guess what?

[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_03]: You scored one run like the Mariners offense.

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_03]: We've, we've gotten to know and despise all year that it all of a sudden started

[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_03]: to take a hiatus in September and look like things are starting to turn around.

[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, they were back.

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_03]: They were back in a big way on Wednesday.

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_03]: And I guess on Tuesday too, cause they only scored two runs.

[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_03]: That's the main story.

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_03]: You could not hit with runners in scoring position in either game.

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_03]: You scored two runs on Tuesday.

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_03]: You scored one run in 10 innings on Monday and you couldn't drive anybody in.

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_03]: By the way, like in spite of that Julio play happening, which turned into a

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_03]: double play, Justin Turner struck out on a fastball down the middle to end that

[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_03]: game.

[00:16:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So there wasn't even a ball put in play that would have given Julio the

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_03]: opportunity to score in the 10th and tie that game.

[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_03]: And for all we know with there, for all we know with two outs in that situation

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_03]: after the hypothetical Turner at bat, they may just not score and get out anyway.

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So like that's the real story.

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_03]: They couldn't hit yet again.

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_03]: He, they won, they won the finale.

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_03]: They salvaged the series, I guess, but they still only scored three runs.

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: After we gave them some praise for hitting well under Edgar.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Hmm.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, is it, is Edgar going to get thrown under the bus for a bad offensive week

[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: too?

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's, let's get to that in about 10 seconds here.

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_03]: The last thing I was going to say is just to put a capper on all the base running

[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_03]: stuff this week between Robles, between Julio, it's not really going to get talked

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_03]: about because the Mariners did win today, but there's made another terrible base

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_03]: running decision in the finale.

[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_03]: When, when Dylan Moore was on second base late in the game, there's a ball hit to

[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_03]: shortstop on the ground and he runs to 30 easy toss over to 30 gets thrown out.

[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Like that one's not going to get talked about as much, but it was three days in

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_03]: a row with another really bad base running decision.

[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, you can get back to your point, Edgar.

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, it's just, it's like, it's almost like, you know, Edgar can bring

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_01]: all the expertise he wants offensively, but it's still the same players on the

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_01]: roster.

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Edgar can't change the players on his roster.

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_01]: He's the hitting coach.

[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_01]: He gives tips.

[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_01]: He's giving a, an idea of an approach, which players say, resonate great, but

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_01]: it doesn't mean it's working every night, unfortunately.

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And in the biggest series of the season falls flat.

[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Like just like it would have if Jared to heart and Scott service were here.

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the same thing.

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the same thing.

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm, I'm going to sort of steal like on your, your guys' show on Brock and

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_01]: salt this morning.

[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Salk, I thought made a fantastic point that I'd like to sort of bring here and,

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and throw it out here.

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I agreed with this a hundred percent and is right in line with stuff you and I've

[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_01]: talked about over the last month.

[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And Salk was very frustrated on Thursday show about, uh, about a number of things,

[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_01]: you know, talking about Julio and all this stuff, but some of it boiled back to,

[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_01]: it's like looking at like some of the Mariners decision from the ownership when

[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_01]: they decided to let Scott service go and Jared to heart go as an attempt to make

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_01]: the playoffs.

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_01]: And as we were looking right now, while those odds of making the playoffs are

[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_01]: almost zero to where the decision they made for these, uh, to put Dan Wilson in

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_01]: there and to put Edgar Martinez in there has essentially made no difference in

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_01]: that.

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And doesn't reflect very good on the organization trying to save face in a

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_01]: season where they, they failed to save face because it's not going to work while

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_01]: we're sitting here in September and Scott service and Dan Wilson are going to have

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: these same amount of playoff appearances in this 2024 season.

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be zero.

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, you're a hundred percent right.

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And let me double down on what Salk said too.

[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_03]: This is the problem with how the fan base is currently wired to think right now

[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_03]: there is a ton of hypocrisy going on.

[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_03]: There's a ton of double standards going on and it's such an eye roll in terms of

[00:19:52] [SPEAKER_03]: people praise Dan and praise Edgar beyond belief when they're winning, but all of a

[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_03]: sudden when they lose while Scott would get put under the fire, people aren't

[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_03]: saying anything.

[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm now, I'm now grabbing my mic and holding it.

[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I am speaking directly to every single person that has ever been in our

[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_03]: comments on YouTube, on social media, thinking it when you're listening to the

[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_03]: podcast or just had your own opinion about it.

[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Period.

[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_03]: That would often say fire Scott about things that often were very much not his

[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_03]: fault.

[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm now speaking directly to you.

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_03]: I want you to think long and hard about this.

[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Last Thursday, the Mariners had a three run lead on the Rangers and they blew it.

[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Bullpen blew it late.

[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I seem to recall what people would often get the most mad about at Scott service

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_03]: was bullpen management, which by the way, isn't a manager's decision.

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_03]: It's still not Dan Wilson's decision.

[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_03]: It is made by the front office.

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_03]: The manager just deploys it.

[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I hope we have hit that home enough on this podcast.

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, when the Mariners blew that game, I didn't happen to see a lot of discourse

[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_03]: about Dan Wilson can't manage a bullpen and what is Dan Wilson doing?

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_03]: And, and like, why would he push these buttons and make these decisions?

[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you know what all you would have been saying that were anti Scott service?

[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_03]: If that was services managed game, had they blown that against the Rangers, you

[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_03]: would have gone to the depths of the earth to say why he can't manage a bullpen.

[00:21:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Now, why is it any different with Dan Wilson?

[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_03]: And we like Dan Wilson.

[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I like the organization really likes Dan Wilson.

[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_03]: This isn't even about him.

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not.

[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_03]: He's an awesome dude.

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_03]: This is about the total hypocrisy that's going on in this fan base right now that

[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_03]: aren't holding the two groups to the same standard.

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Again, did you say anything when the Mariners blew that game against the Rangers

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_03]: with Dan Wilson managing the team?

[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause they blew it.

[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_03]: They blew it badly.

[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't see a lot of discourse about it.

[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to be honest.

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, my comments were more about the team itself, which is whether it's Scott

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_01]: service or Dan Wilson at the helm blowing games throughout the second half.

[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Has it mattered?

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Who's been the manager?

[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_01]: First of all, all the decisions are like you said, essentially the same.

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Dan doesn't Dan's decisions aren't that much different.

[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_01]: The blown leads with Dan and the blown leads with Scott, which a lot of the Scott

[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_01]: the over that last road trip, they blew quite a few leads certainly helped him get

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_01]: fired, but it's the same players.

[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_01]: It will always, always boil back to the players that the managers have to put out

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_01]: there.

[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_03]: But does my point make sense again?

[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Did you see any discourse on that Thursday?

[00:22:31] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I did not.

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I did not see any fire Dan Wilson's no.

[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_03]: And if your argument is he's new to the job, again, this is another point Salk

[00:22:41] [SPEAKER_03]: made on the show that I'll take from it.

[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, Dan Wilson was hired because they believe this is the guy to get this team

[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_03]: to the playoffs.

[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm sorry if that's your view.

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_03]: If Dan Wilson was the interim manager right now, this would be viewed a whole lot

[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_03]: differently.

[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_03]: We would not be having this discourse.

[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not.

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_03]: He was made the full-time manager because the Mariners had the full belief.

[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_03]: This is who's taking us to the playoffs.

[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_03]: So if that's your belief, I'm sorry.

[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_03]: You don't get a learning curve as a new manager.

[00:23:09] [SPEAKER_03]: You don't get a learning curve with a month left in the season when you have to

[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_03]: win games because you are the guy that the organization said, this is our guy.

[00:23:18] [SPEAKER_03]: This is getting us.

[00:23:19] [SPEAKER_03]: This is who's getting us to the playoffs.

[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And then the team blows the lead the exact same way they would have blown it

[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_03]: with Scott service.

[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_03]: It's ridiculous.

[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous.

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that was the best, best point Salk made.

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't get, you do not get the new manager excuse as a full-time manager,

[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_01]: not in September.

[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_01]: No, because you know when new managers usually make their mistakes in April.

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And if the Mariners operated with an ounce of common sense, like Ryan Davis

[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_01]: said, they lacked throughout the process.

[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_01]: If Dan Wilson was made the full-time manager this off season and he made some

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_01]: mistakes in April, people would can't always make people be happy, but it would

[00:24:01] [SPEAKER_01]: work themselves out over the 162 games of the 2025 season.

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Guess what?

[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners are trying to make the playoffs.

[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_01]: They are screaming down a path of, as I mentioned earlier, one of the most

[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_01]: disappointing, embarrassing seasons in franchise history from what you have put

[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_01]: out there on the mound, the fact that you've gotten to this point and you.

[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_01]: You're not like odds are you're not making the playoffs.

[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_01]: It just, it's so disappointing.

[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_01]: It's so disappointing.

[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_01]: You want to know something really funny?

[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, something funny.

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners having an above average offense by WRC plus now.

[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's fine.

[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I don't think it's funny.

[00:24:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm actually kind of laughing at it right now.

[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Fine.

[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm laughing.

[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, anyways.

[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_01]: So, okay.

[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_03]: We're big job guys.

[00:24:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying we're big WRC plus guys and always will be.

[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_03]: However, in this situation, maybe I'm actually going to sound like a boomer

[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_03]: here, but does that not feel a little misleading?

[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_03]: We know this offense is not good.

[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not average.

[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_03]: We know that.

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause it's park adjusted.

[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I know.

[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah.

[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, so again, like I want to make this clear.

[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Like we really liked Dan Wilson and, and we, we think there is absolutely a chance

[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_03]: he can be a very good manager.

[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_03]: This isn't about him.

[00:25:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Certainly not about him as a person because he is beloved for a reason.

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_03]: We very, very much like him.

[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's not even really about what he's like again, it's not really

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_03]: about his tenure as a manager so far.

[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_03]: This is about the decision that the people well above him made to make this

[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_03]: happen, it's the organizational mindset blueprint philosophy that's pissing me

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_03]: off that are in a lot of people off for that matter, it's like, that's what

[00:25:44] [SPEAKER_03]: it is here.

[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I like, I hope I can make that clear.

[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_03]: This isn't about Dan Wilson himself.

[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_03]: It's about people higher up than that.

[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Are you saying the Mariners piss you off?

[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Lyle?

[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Is that what you're saying?

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_03]: No.

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And my, in my 26 years of being a fan, they've never pissed me off.

[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm actually grateful that they made the playoffs one time in 22 years.

[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's actually the most annoying part of this week.

[00:26:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Besides the fact the Mariners lost two or three games to the Yankees, they

[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_01]: gained ground in the playoff chase.

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Could you imagine if they played well this series?

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_01]: They are too.

[00:26:19] [SPEAKER_01]: They gained a half a game in the wild card this week and didn't lose any

[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_03]: ground in the division.

[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_03]: So in, in that scenario, if you win that game Tuesday or sorry, Wednesday,

[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_03]: then you're by the standings and what they say on paper, one game out of the

[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_03]: last spot.

[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_03]: We know it's really two because you don't have the tiebreaker over the twins,

[00:26:39] [SPEAKER_03]: but you're two games out.

[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_03]: The wild cards of very real possibility still now it's three and a half out of

[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_03]: the division.

[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Right?

[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Your only chance, your only chance at this point, like, like I'm basically done

[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_03]: with the wild card unless something drastic happens.

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_03]: It's done.

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Your only chance is we've said be within three games of Houston.

[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_03]: So find a way to make up a couple of games before that series starts or even

[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_03]: be within four.

[00:27:02] [SPEAKER_03]: And if you sweep them, then you go into the final weekend to game back with the

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_03]: tiebreaker.

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_03]: There's obviously still a chance in that scenario, but you gotta be at least

[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_03]: within four.

[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And that is to even give yourselves a chance on paper.

[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_03]: That's your only chance.

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Does anybody sitting here think the Mariners are going into Houston and

[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_03]: sweeping the Astros?

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Nope, nope.

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_03]: So you will have to like, you're going to have to drink some of Michael's secret

[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_03]: stuff from space jam and play your three best games of the season against the

[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Astros in a park that's haunted you for years.

[00:27:33] [SPEAKER_03]: If you want to still give yourselves a chance, that is your only chance.

[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_03]: You have to play your three cleanest games of the whole year.

[00:27:39] [SPEAKER_01]: And what Lyle mentions with the wild card, it's not the factor of catching the

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_01]: twins.

[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_01]: The twins very well might be caught.

[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_01]: The twins are awful right now.

[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_01]: They're terrible.

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_01]: They lost three or four to the guardians this week.

[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners are not making up three games on the Tigers between now and the end of

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_01]: the season.

[00:27:56] [SPEAKER_01]: That is not happening.

[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Tigers could beat anyone right now down the stretch, easily beat anyone.

[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Royals play extremely well at home Lyle all year.

[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_01]: They have one of the top two MVP candidates in the American league.

[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_01]: They swept.

[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_01]: They're now tied for the third wild card and they get to finish the season with the

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_01]: white socks.

[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_01]: You're not, you're not catching them.

[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_01]: The only chance is playing the Astros, but the Astros are the best team in the

[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_01]: American league.

[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:28:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean the Tigers, sorry.

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, no.

[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So they are the best team in the American league.

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: You just played the second best team in the American league and we clearly saw what,

[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_01]: how the Mariners stack up with a team like that.

[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So the Tigers do play the Orioles this weekend.

[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll see how that goes, but it doesn't matter.

[00:28:34] [SPEAKER_01]: They'll probably win two or three.

[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how the Tigers are doing this again.

[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_03]: They have one pitcher and two bats.

[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how they're doing this.

[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And yet they have rat, they, they were eight games under on August 10th.

[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't get it.

[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.

[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they're not answers.

[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_01]: We like that Julio play.

[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_01]: That's something that has never happened in baseball before.

[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_01]: A double it's what is it?

[00:28:58] [SPEAKER_01]: The, the, the tying run on third with no outs and two batters later, the game ends.

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Like this never happened.

[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you want me to read the stat?

[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_01]: What is it?

[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_03]: What's the exact stat?

[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I was going to say, we talked about it earlier, so let me find it.

[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_03]: This is from opti stats on Twitter.

[00:29:16] [SPEAKER_03]: They tweeted out that the Mariners are the only MLB team in the last 50 years to have

[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_03]: the tying run on third with nobody out in the ninth inning or later only to lose the

[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_03]: game in the space of two batters without putting the ball in play and without trying

[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_03]: to steal.

[00:29:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.

[00:29:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, how many franchises could achieve that one?

[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah.

[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_01]: One.

[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:29:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the only, it's just the same one who's never been to a world series.

[00:29:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm hmm.

[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.

[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_01]: What a week.

[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Look at this.

[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I can't tell.

[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, is there anything else to talk about with this series about upcoming with Texas?

[00:29:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Is there anything to get to with that?

[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_01]: When your next nine, that's it.

[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_01]: That's the only chance.

[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty simple if they lose a game this weekend in Texas.

[00:30:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's, that's it.

[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, obviously we're going to do some other things in the show, like go down on

[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_03]: the farm and do a Russell Wilson up of the week and speak your mind.

[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_03]: However, there's something else we, we need to get to because just to add fuel to the

[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_03]: fire here and, and spoiler, I'm about to start venting like, like at a pretty high

[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_03]: decibel level.

[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll mute my mic and just let you go.

[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no.

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I want to have a back and forth just at some point we're going to, at some point

[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just going to start going here.

[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure.

[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_03]: And, and maybe you think to yourselves, well, well, you and TJ both been pretty

[00:30:42] [SPEAKER_03]: animated in the first half hour of the show.

[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's correct.

[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_03]: But I'm about to take it to another level here.

[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_03]: So show.

[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, just went 50, 50.

[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_03]: He now is a 50, 50 guy.

[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Actually he's a 51 51 guy.

[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Now he has 50 homers, 50 stolen bases.

[00:30:58] [SPEAKER_03]: He is the first player in the history of baseball to do that.

[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I really wish you guys.

[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I really do.

[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I could just sit here and Marvel in, in wholehearted, genuine baseball fandom

[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_03]: about how cool that is, how amazing that is, how fascinating show.

[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, is the player because he is, he is the greatest player in my mind to ever

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_03]: live, and he is one of the best things to ever happen to the game of baseball.

[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_03]: But I cannot just cannot what we're transparent on this podcast.

[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_03]: You guys know that when we have the opportunities to be positive, we like to

[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_03]: be positive, but we don't hide what our feelings are either.

[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_03]: We hope that's a way we can connect with you guys.

[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_03]: When we do these, we're very transparent about what our feelings are and I'm

[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_03]: sorry, but I cannot bring myself to appreciate what he has done in this

[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_03]: moment, maybe later on.

[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I will maybe in a couple of weeks.

[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I will, but I cannot in this moment because the only place my mind goes to is

[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_03]: how feebly and putridly the Mariners handled that entire free agency saga with

[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_03]: him.

[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_03]: It just like, that's the only place my mind goes.

[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_03]: You totally fucking fumbled that bag.

[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_03]: And some of you are going to say, Lyle, it's like 10 months later.

[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_03]: How are you still on this?

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't care.

[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't care.

[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_03]: You guys totally, totally balked at the money at the greatest player to ever

[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_03]: play this game because you look the fans right in the eyes.

[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_03]: This is what they said.

[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_03]: This is what they said by not even attempting to sign Shohei Otani back in

[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_03]: the winter.

[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't care about the RSN stuff either, by the way.

[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't, I don't care at all.

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_03]: By not even attempting to give him an offer, you looked every fan, us included

[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_03]: right in the face and said, he's not worth it.

[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I see the Dodgers making more money than just about every team in

[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_03]: baseball.

[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Fans sell out almost every game.

[00:32:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Shohei's had one of the greatest seasons a hitters ever had.

[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_03]: They're like, they're racking in money.

[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_03]: And you think this Mariners offense couldn't use that guy right now?

[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_03]: They couldn't use that guy.

[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_03]: This, don't give me their a hundred WRC plus thing.

[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_03]: This has been one of the most embarrassing offenses we've watched in our entire

[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_03]: lives where compared to where the expectation was.

[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And again, I don't freak out about every free agent, but you would a

[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_03]: generational, not even generational.

[00:33:11] [SPEAKER_03]: You had the greatest player to ever live in free agency this winter.

[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And they totally punted.

[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_03]: They totally looked everybody in the face and said, yep, he's not worth it.

[00:33:22] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not worth our time or our money because, and I don't care what type of

[00:33:26] [SPEAKER_03]: offer they say, they made him because it clearly, yeah, I can tell I'm really

[00:33:30] [SPEAKER_03]: going on here, but okay.

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Whatever.

[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_03]: They clearly didn't, they didn't care because if you were to say you offered

[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_03]: him $300 million when you knew his starting price started with a five and got all

[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_03]: the way up to seven, that's like being at an auction for a house that costs

[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_03]: three and a half million dollars bidding starts at a million, but you try to

[00:33:48] [SPEAKER_03]: raise your hand up as the bidders like, and 1.1 million and a 1.2 in the back of

[00:33:52] [SPEAKER_03]: 1.2.

[00:33:53] [SPEAKER_03]: We only can we get a 1.4, 1.4.

[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_03]: You, you hold up your sign and you say $500,000.

[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_03]: No, that's not an effort.

[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I like, again, I'm sure some of you are going to be like, why are you still on

[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_03]: this?

[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Because we've watched this offense all year.

[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_03]: They need bats beyond belief.

[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And you didn't even try with the greatest player to ever live.

[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_03]: You didn't even try like, and it's still pissing me off to this day.

[00:34:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't get over these things, people.

[00:34:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I really don't.

[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't get over these things.

[00:34:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll probably still be pissed about it 20 years from now.

[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_03]: So like, I'm still mad that inside of the first time after 2017, yeah, I don't get

[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_03]: over these things.

[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh my God.

[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_03]: So like if the Mariners had honestly won Wednesday's game, I don't even know if

[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_03]: I'd be sitting here reacting like this.

[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_03]: We're at the point where I'm just, I'm so emotional.

[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm so tied into the season.

[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_03]: It's just absolutely bogged me down.

[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_03]: And now on the same day that things are the same 24 hours of things feel like

[00:34:49] [SPEAKER_03]: they're coming to an end.

[00:34:51] [SPEAKER_03]: This happens too.

[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And it just gave me all these war flashbacks to 10 months ago when I was fuming about

[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_03]: it.

[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_03]: As I'll turn the mic back to you now, man, I feel like that white socks collar.

[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause I went on about that for a bit.

[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like that white socks collar that just went on for like eight minutes straight

[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_03]: right there.

[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't go that long, but I think it was about three minutes.

[00:35:08] [SPEAKER_01]: All right, good.

[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty good.

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_03]: I had to get that off my chest here.

[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not getting over that.

[00:35:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what else to actually have to add besides the fact is what hurts the

[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_01]: most is knowing the Mariners will never get another opportunity like that.

[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's once in a, like a, once in a major league baseball time that any franchise

[00:35:27] [SPEAKER_01]: is going to get to do that.

[00:35:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what stars like that actually hit free agency if you think about it?

[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, actually I have another one Soto this winter would say we'll also not try for.

[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's a whole separate conversation.

[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but yes, but the idea, the idea is the exact same.

[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Will they, will they offer fair market value for Juan Soto?

[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Probably not.

[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Most likely not.

[00:35:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Nothing's impossible, but we're pretty certain that that's not going to happen.

[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty certain when Juan Soto asks for five, what they would be comfortable with

[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_01]: starts with two and that's just not happening.

[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_01]: No.

[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So, and that's unfortunate, but sitting here and thinking like just the, just

[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners history and what has happened to this franchise?

[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Like think of like, think of the, the, the, the greatest free agent in this

[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_01]: franchise's history, right?

[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Alex Rodriguez.

[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Got blown away.

[00:36:19] [SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't a free agent.

[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't a free agent.

[00:36:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Alex Rodriguez was a free agent.

[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, but like the Mariners didn't sign him as a free agent.

[00:36:26] [SPEAKER_01]: No, they didn't.

[00:36:27] [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't sign up.

[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_01]: They, he left as a free agent.

[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Why was that?

[00:36:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Money.

[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Different market back then Rangers, I think.

[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_01]: What did they like double the previous high salary?

[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_01]: They overpaid and he's worth it.

[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like what the Dodgers did with show hated the Rangers in 2001 realized what

[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Alex Rodriguez was worth and went well above and beyond to make sure it happened.

[00:36:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Percentage wise.

[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't have it written down what the comparison is for show.

[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, $700 million contract versus what was the, what's the previous high?

[00:37:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Is it Bryce's total?

[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.

[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Bryce got three 30.

[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Somebody's made more.

[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Garrett Cole.

[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_03]: No.

[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause Garrett Colston, what?

[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Three 25.

[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_01]: His is short.

[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about total money.

[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, trout.

[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_03]: It's four 35.

[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Total.

[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_01]: So let's use that number.

[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's it.

[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Um, let's uh, Tati's was three like three 40 ish.

[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So let's use the trout number 400 show.

[00:37:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Hayes is almost double that.

[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Baseball teams are still willing to do that for the right players.

[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Now the Rangers investment turned out.

[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_01]: He did.

[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Signed him to that contract.

[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_01]: What do you want an MVP when he was in Texas or two, two MVPs?

[00:37:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, he was amazing.

[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_01]: He was amazing.

[00:37:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Worth every single penny.

[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_01]: The Rangers paid for him.

[00:38:00] [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't put any good players around him, but then they traded him to the

[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Yankees, got some good players back.

[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Things worked out for the franchise.

[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Look, range.

[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So one of world series since then.

[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Was he?

[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, cause the Ranger spent more money.

[00:38:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, was era.

[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think era was traded to the Yankees.

[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Was he?

[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I thought you just signed a free agency.

[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_01]: That's how Soriano got to the Rangers.

[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_03]: You're right.

[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_03]: You're right.

[00:38:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And then a rod opted out and then resigned with the Yankees.

[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_01]: If I had that right.

[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, but anyway, so that's like a similar scenario, right?

[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Kind of.

[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_01]: There are different players when, when it comes to generational players hitting

[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_01]: the market that the Mariners have an ability to get, like those are the two.

[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Who else?

[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_03]: There's knock again.

[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_03]: You have back-to-back years with generational players in free agency, and

[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_01]: there's not going to be, but it's not only generational players.

[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause you brought up the point.

[00:38:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not crazy about every free agent was Trey Turner coming here.

[00:38:50] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's an East coast guy.

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not.

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I was Harper coming here.

[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, probably not.

[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I would have loved Bryce, but he's probably not coming to Seattle.

[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't want to track all the way up here.

[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_01]: The two guys that were like absolutely interested in coming here.

[00:39:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Like those other worldly generational guys, Alex Rodriguez and show.

[00:39:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Otani push comes to shove.

[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The money wasn't there.

[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And again, like the Soto things different too, cause he may be an East coast guy.

[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_03]: We, you know, we've also, there's also a sense out there that Scott

[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Boris doesn't love the Mariners and doesn't love making deals with the Mariners.

[00:39:23] [SPEAKER_03]: So like that is, that is a thing and, and it still drives me crazy,

[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_03]: but that's still a thing.

[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, like all the more reason to show.

[00:39:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, one is I'm never going to get over.

[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_03]: He was very clearly interested the first time he is not a Scott Boris guy.

[00:39:40] [SPEAKER_03]: He is a West coast guy.

[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_03]: So Seattle has a ton of ties to Japan and each year is here.

[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I mean, you know what?

[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't even care about that stuff because that's all secondary to the money.

[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_03]: All over the money.

[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Like dude, like again, I'm never, I'm, I'm legitimately never going to get over this.

[00:39:59] [SPEAKER_03]: They like the fact you didn't even try is there was some other point I wanted

[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_03]: to make here with this, but like that's really like with the Mariners with the

[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_03]: getting him in the end, we don't know that it may, it may not have been.

[00:40:12] [SPEAKER_03]: It may have always been the Dodgers because they're the best run franchise

[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_03]: in baseball, but the point is, you know what the blue Jays did?

[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_03]: They tried.

[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_03]: They genuinely tried and blue Jays fans can be mad at show hair or whoever all

[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_03]: they want that they didn't get it done.

[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_03]: They tried.

[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_03]: John Marosi.

[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_03]: They tried.

[00:40:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Maris didn't try.

[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_03]: All the reports were.

[00:40:33] [SPEAKER_03]: They balked at the money.

[00:40:36] [SPEAKER_03]: And with a player like that, that would have made you more money on that contract

[00:40:39] [SPEAKER_03]: than you could have ever hoped for way more money than you would have ever paid

[00:40:43] [SPEAKER_03]: him.

[00:40:43] [SPEAKER_03]: You still say biggest thing.

[00:40:45] [SPEAKER_01]: That's the biggest thing.

[00:40:46] [SPEAKER_01]: A franchise that runs on business acumen, making money's fine.

[00:40:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Just not see a clear winning investment.

[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It's it stinks.

[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And they're never going to get a chance to rectify that again.

[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Like again, it's players that are okay.

[00:41:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Playing in Seattle, the dude spends his off seasons in Seattle training.

[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Who does that?

[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Other guys that drive line, I guess, but that's it.

[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_01]: But not like, like do most of those guys actually love staying in the off season

[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_01]: in Seattle?

[00:41:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:41:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Seattle's a nice city, but it is, but not everyone.

[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's cup of tea.

[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Not during the winter.

[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm hmm.

[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Stinks.

[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And it just gets rubbed in more and more and more and show.

[00:41:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, while he gets his 50 50 has did something that no one has ever done.

[00:41:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Just leaving, leaving the, leaving the, just the, the thing out there that it's

[00:41:41] [SPEAKER_01]: like, wow, I think the Dodgers are happy.

[00:41:43] [SPEAKER_01]: They did that.

[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, look at this guy.

[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_01]: He literally as a, as a bat hit his 100th percentile.

[00:41:49] [SPEAKER_01]: The first year you sign him.

[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_03]: And Oh, by the way, next year he goes back to pitching too.

[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Awesome.

[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Awesome stuff.

[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I know, by the way, the Mariners still have problems at DH, which is

[00:42:00] [SPEAKER_03]: where he would have played.

[00:42:03] [SPEAKER_03]: So, um, like I'm never going to get over it, dude.

[00:42:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't know how many times I can hit that home.

[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I will, I will legitimately never get over either time.

[00:42:12] [SPEAKER_03]: The Mariners didn't sign them, but especially the second time when again,

[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_03]: it was very clear they didn't even try.

[00:42:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, dude, I don't know how we're going to make through this off season.

[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_03]: And, and, and I'm, I'm not looking forward to it.

[00:42:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm really not as much as everybody wants kind of their break from baseball.

[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_03]: And you just reset and relax when this season ends, because it's

[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_03]: been hard on a lot of people.

[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Like the way everything's going with all this root sports stuff, it feels like

[00:42:38] [SPEAKER_03]: we're going to put, be put right back in the ring or this off season.

[00:42:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause I don't know where this money's coming from.

[00:42:42] [SPEAKER_03]: They should spend regardless, but I don't know where this money's coming from.

[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I hope they prove us wrong.

[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_03]: These like, again, people build their lives around this team and they don't

[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_03]: deserve everything that continues to go on with this franchise.

[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_03]: And yet, and yet we get the brunt of it.

[00:43:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, go out and make your team better.

[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_03]: This winter.

[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_03]: That's like you posted your clip today about us talking about the potential

[00:43:09] [SPEAKER_03]: of trading a pitcher and you were making points and I'm not saying they're wrong.

[00:43:13] [SPEAKER_03]: There's real validity to it about the Mariners being able to save

[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_03]: money by trading a pitcher.

[00:43:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Shouldn't be your narrative.

[00:43:21] [SPEAKER_03]: If you're going to do it, if you're going to do it, it's you have to believe

[00:43:25] [SPEAKER_03]: it's because Juan Soto, Alex Bregman, Anthony Santander, et cetera, even if

[00:43:30] [SPEAKER_03]: you overpay will not sign here.

[00:43:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Like you'd have to essentially double every team's offer for them to sign

[00:43:35] [SPEAKER_03]: here and you think the only way you're getting a bat is to trade.

[00:43:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, if that's the case, your optic should be to get the best

[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_03]: bat possible, not to save money.

[00:43:43] [SPEAKER_03]: So if you go trade Luis this winter, eat his contract, get real bats back.

[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Don't salary dump like yeah, you can see I'm already gearing up for off season

[00:43:53] [SPEAKER_03]: mode because I'm not, I'm not ready for it.

[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me end it on this note.

[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_01]: The goal is to get better, not to save money.

[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_01]: That is the goal.

[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_01]: They should be trying to get better.

[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_01]: It should be looking at what will be a probably an 84 win season and

[00:44:06] [SPEAKER_01]: saying that's not good enough.

[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Instead of ending the season last year, the playoff failure and saying, Oh, I

[00:44:13] [SPEAKER_01]: thought we're actually pretty good.

[00:44:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, obviously not.

[00:44:18] [SPEAKER_03]: We're not, we're not getting a press conference.

[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no.

[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Chance we're getting a press.

[00:44:24] [SPEAKER_01]: If there is a press conference, it's going to be over zoom.

[00:44:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Like after they fired Scott.

[00:44:29] Yeah.

[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_01]: There are no real press conference that they are.

[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_01]: They're not letting Jerry sit in front of a microphone and answer

[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_01]: questions for 30 minutes.

[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Not after all this garbage that has gone through with all the tell and then all

[00:44:40] [SPEAKER_01]: the television network stuff on top of that.

[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It's never happening.

[00:44:44] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, it's not.

[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope so.

[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_01]: This podcast really hopes there's a press conference, but I don't

[00:44:52] [SPEAKER_01]: think we're getting one.

[00:44:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Would we talk about, do you want to talk about some positive?

[00:44:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.

[00:44:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Can I get 30 seconds?

[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_03]: You got all your net.

[00:44:59] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[00:44:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Last bit of negativity out.

[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Go.

[00:45:01] [SPEAKER_03]: If there was a press conference, would we perk up and ask a question?

[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_03]: We might need to, if there was hypothetically one, I have one.

[00:45:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:45:10] [SPEAKER_01]: What would you ask?

[00:45:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I would say last year sitting in this press conference, you talked about how

[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_03]: payroll will go up in 2024 and it did.

[00:45:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Will it go up again in 2025?

[00:45:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's my very reasonable question.

[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I think you and five others would ask that.

[00:45:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, well, it would be in the first like three questions, whether or

[00:45:29] [SPEAKER_01]: not payroll is going to go up.

[00:45:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Jerry's not going to give you a, he's going to give you like a technicality.

[00:45:34] [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to say yes.

[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And a technicality that it goes up just like in a technicality from last

[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_01]: year, it went up 5 million.

[00:45:43] [SPEAKER_03]: They so they so terribly handled the Otani sweepstakes.

[00:45:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So they said, Oh, technically we will be active in free agency.

[00:45:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Signing Mitch Garber.

[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, woo.

[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So exciting.

[00:45:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, like the fact that you, the fact you couldn't sign Reese Hoskins and Mitch

[00:46:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Garber who both didn't get that much, like you made one move for offense and free

[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_01]: agency one and instead decided to pay tie France who you cut now he's doing very

[00:46:12] [SPEAKER_01]: well in Cincinnati.

[00:46:13] God.

[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_03]: They so, so, so terribly handled this show.

[00:46:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, sweepstakes.

[00:46:18] [SPEAKER_01]: They did anyway, before I get to this read, just give me the line one more time.

[00:46:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Ready?

[00:46:23] [SPEAKER_03]: What is it?

[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, how many franchises does this happen?

[00:46:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, sorry.

[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Only one franchise.

[00:46:30] [SPEAKER_03]: No, there we go.

[00:46:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Before we go down on the farm, let's hear a word from game time.

[00:46:35] [SPEAKER_01]: There's only barely over a week left in the baseball season.

[00:47:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Athletics it's $14 to go on Friday, $19 on Saturday and $20 on Sunday.

[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Looking for something this weekend.

[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed.

[00:47:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go down on the farm.

[00:47:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Seems like the only positive news from this week, Lyle is that we got somewhat

[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_01]: of an update for Durangelo Sanja.

[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_01]: He was hanging out with the Arkansas travelers this week as they're in

[00:48:04] [SPEAKER_01]: the Texas league playoffs.

[00:48:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Arkansas did lose game two today.

[00:48:09] [SPEAKER_01]: They'll play game three when this podcast comes out on Friday, tomorrow.

[00:48:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Flip it around.

[00:48:15] [SPEAKER_03]: They won game two.

[00:48:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.

[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Lost game one, one game two.

[00:48:20] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll play game three tomorrow on our, when this podcast comes out on, on Friday.

[00:48:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, Durangelo is not going to play with the traps this year.

[00:48:28] [SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to activate them.

[00:48:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Logan Evans is starting tomorrow in game three.

[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Shout out our guy Logan.

[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_01]: But what does this say about this move that he's there right now?

[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's interesting.

[00:48:38] [SPEAKER_03]: So I got pretty excited when I saw his Instagram video, because when I saw he

[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_03]: was at Dickie Stevens park in Arkansas, I was like, oh no way.

[00:48:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I thought maybe they were going to let him throw a couple innings in the

[00:48:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Texas league playoffs and that would be his professional debut.

[00:48:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Now it doesn't seem like that's going to be the case.

[00:48:55] [SPEAKER_03]: He's still not on the active roster.

[00:48:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Logan Evans is slated to start the third game.

[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_03]: So it seems like maybe he's just there to hang out.

[00:49:02] [SPEAKER_03]: That being said, the fact that he's there while we'd love to see him pitch this

[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_03]: year, when we see him debut next season, is he just going to start in Arkansas?

[00:49:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's the craziest thing ever because think of where

[00:49:20] [SPEAKER_01]: he played his college ball.

[00:49:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a little easier for SEC arms to jump straight to double A than

[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_01]: it is for any other conference, maybe ACC too, but SEC is the best baseball

[00:49:31] [SPEAKER_01]: conference, the level of baseball they play in that conference is, I don't know,

[00:49:37] [SPEAKER_01]: it's roughly minor league baseball based off of some of the athletes you're

[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_01]: playing against, you're pitching against and some of those environments.

[00:49:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So it allows you to be as advanced and as polished as a player coming out of the draft.

[00:49:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not the same for everyone.

[00:49:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Paul Skeens is certainly a unicorn.

[00:49:59] [SPEAKER_01]: He had the build.

[00:50:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Durangelo's not quite built like a tank like Paul Skeens is, but I don't think

[00:50:06] [SPEAKER_01]: it's the craziest thing in the world to put him in double A.

[00:50:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Is it a safer option to put him into Everett for five, six, seven,

[00:50:12] [SPEAKER_01]: eight starts to start next year?

[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.

[00:50:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But if you know, the Mariners sat down there in Arizona when he's acclimating

[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_01]: to pro ball and throwing on the back fields and lifting and all that stuff

[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_01]: down there, like they see his stuff and they see his command, if he's good to

[00:50:29] [SPEAKER_01]: go in Arkansas, they certainly know it.

[00:50:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, that rotation now, if they're going to put him in

[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_01]: there, holy crap.

[00:50:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Holy crap.

[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Over next year.

[00:50:40] [SPEAKER_01]: You mean?

[00:50:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:50:41] [SPEAKER_01]: The Travs and we're talking Logan Evans, Brandon Garcia, Michael Morales, who have

[00:50:46] [SPEAKER_01]: all been studs this year, and you're putting the first, your first round pick

[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_01]: in there too.

[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Holy moly.

[00:50:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And then what's the other kid's name that just won the ERA title.

[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not like a huge prospect, but Danny, Danny Warchanski, he just

[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_03]: won the ERA title.

[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm pretty sure.

[00:51:02] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm pretty sure he's a starter.

[00:51:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I think I have that right.

[00:51:05] [SPEAKER_03]: So that's, that's a pretty good rotation.

[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah.

[00:51:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, while you checked out, I mean that like we're talking like legit pro

[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_01]: prospects, there are four of them in Arkansas and that's exciting.

[00:51:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's really cool for Durangelo now.

[00:51:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Will he advance beyond double a next year?

[00:51:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm guessing if they start him in double eight, excuse me, he's pitching the whole

[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_01]: season there unless he rolls out and he's got like a 0.7 ERA with a 33% strikeout

[00:51:32] [SPEAKER_01]: rate, unlikely, but if he does by some chance, then he could see, he could see

[00:51:38] [SPEAKER_01]: the big leagues next year, but I think next year is going to be a full Arkansas

[00:51:41] [SPEAKER_01]: year for Durangelo Sanger.

[00:51:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It just makes the most sense.

[00:51:45] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no reason to rush him.

[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_01]: He'll be 22 next year when he's pitching there, you pitch him his whole 22 season

[00:51:50] [SPEAKER_01]: there and then by age 23, he's close at that point.

[00:51:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And you have other guys in double a.

[00:51:57] [SPEAKER_01]: That will be a little farther along more seasoned in pro ball who have the

[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners need a start from one of those double a guys instead of Emerson Hancock.

[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_01]: You have the Logan Evans, the Brandon Garcia, Michael Morales could be ready

[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_01]: by that point next year.

[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, hold like what a 365 day turn for Michael Morales.

[00:52:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, seriously, we're talking about this dude being close to the big leagues

[00:52:18] [SPEAKER_01]: based on where he was at this point last year is insane.

[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_01]: So shout out to him.

[00:52:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Um, but it just a crazy rotation in Arkansas.

[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_01]: It's gotta, it's gotta feel them make the Mariners very confident again in their

[00:52:30] [SPEAKER_01]: ability to replenish this farm system.

[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And then on top of that, and I hate to bring up this point, but makes them

[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_01]: confident in trading a starter.

[00:52:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.

[00:52:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so I checked where Chansky is a starter.

[00:52:44] [SPEAKER_03]: So he made 27 appearances, 17 starts.

[00:52:48] [SPEAKER_03]: So now he was pitching in bulk plenty.

[00:52:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:52:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Two 84 era for the year.

[00:52:52] [SPEAKER_03]: That's another guy in the rotation.

[00:52:54] [SPEAKER_03]: So if next year it's him, Logan Evans, Brandon Garcia, Michael, Michael Morales,

[00:52:57] [SPEAKER_03]: tarantula.

[00:52:58] [SPEAKER_03]: That's pretty, that's a pretty sick rotation.

[00:53:00] [SPEAKER_03]: And honestly, to that point, Logan, Logan was a 12th rounder out of pit.

[00:53:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Didn't have great college numbers.

[00:53:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Looked so good in the spring and the numbers like, like all the analytics

[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_03]: and all this stuff just popped off the charts so much.

[00:53:13] [SPEAKER_03]: They said, okay, you're going right to Arkansas.

[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And he spent the whole year there.

[00:53:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Now I know he threw a few innings with Modesto last year, but that's, you know,

[00:53:21] [SPEAKER_03]: it's, it's a pretty small sample throwing, you know, 10 innings versus

[00:53:24] [SPEAKER_03]: no innings in Modesto.

[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how much difference that really makes for, for a

[00:53:28] [SPEAKER_03]: pitcher's development in general.

[00:53:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, if you're doing that with a 12 rounder, if Durangelo is really

[00:53:33] [SPEAKER_03]: that ready and developed in advance, sure.

[00:53:36] [SPEAKER_03]: You can start in Arkansas next year.

[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_01]: It's exciting stuff in this farm system.

[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_01]: So the ability to replenish arms, I think should not be underestimated.

[00:53:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Like we, a lot of the strays we spent the first 40 or so minutes of this

[00:53:50] [SPEAKER_01]: podcast throwing the Mariners way.

[00:53:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of those could go right to Jerry to Poto.

[00:53:54] [SPEAKER_01]: But if you want to go back on the positive side, this right here, what

[00:53:57] [SPEAKER_01]: we're talking about, those five guys in the Mariners current starting rotation.

[00:54:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And that those five guys in the Arkansas rotation that are on the

[00:54:06] [SPEAKER_01]: next step to the big leagues.

[00:54:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty impressive.

[00:54:09] [SPEAKER_01]: It's hard.

[00:54:10] [SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to match.

[00:54:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I, there are not really any other teams that can do this.

[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, it's not.

[00:54:16] [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be stuck like right in the middle of these just two extreme

[00:54:19] [SPEAKER_01]: frustration, frustration and joy points.

[00:54:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Right?

[00:54:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Man.

[00:54:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, again, I hope the Mariners somehow some way get fortunate enough next

[00:54:28] [SPEAKER_03]: season where they barely have any injuries in their rotation again, it

[00:54:31] [SPEAKER_03]: feels unlikely, but I would love to see it happen again.

[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_03]: However, if it doesn't and you need guys, you're not going to be short on

[00:54:40] [SPEAKER_03]: guys because you already have Emerson.

[00:54:42] [SPEAKER_03]: And if, if for some reason you need somebody past Emerson to make some

[00:54:46] [SPEAKER_03]: starts to pick your poison down in double a, it's probably not going to

[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_03]: be Durangelo that early, but you've, you've got everybody else right in

[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_03]: front of you.

[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_03]: So pretty cool.

[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't that long ago where I remember checking in on Jack Z's player and the

[00:55:00] [SPEAKER_01]: players in the minors and they were never very good.

[00:55:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_03]: And now, and now again, if you need rotational depth next year, you got

[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Emerson, you got Logan Evans, you got Brandon Garcia, you've got Michael

[00:55:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Morales potentially we'll see what they think of where chance keeper potentially.

[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, it's a lot of pitching, which is pretty fun.

[00:55:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to give it a shout out to our guy.

[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Laz too.

[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_01]: We won the Cal league MVP, even though he missed the last two months of the

[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_01]: season.

[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty impressive.

[00:55:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Pretty impressive.

[00:55:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Shows you what kind of season he had down there and Modesto and it really how good

[00:55:33] [SPEAKER_01]: good he was.

[00:55:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And also shout out to the months, the months, the nuts who won back-to-back

[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Cali championships.

[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty cool.

[00:55:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Tai Pete's been a part of two Cali championships.

[00:55:44] [SPEAKER_03]: It's cool.

[00:55:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Wow. Cool.

[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Cause cause you know, he was, he was on the team last year after he got drafted

[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_03]: and they want it and he was in Modesto again all year this year and they want it.

[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Pretty cool.

[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Does that put Tai Pete in the goat conversation?

[00:55:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:55:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Modesto goats.

[00:55:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he'll get a statue.

[00:56:00] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm here for it.

[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd be here.

[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Next time we have a model pitch that idea to him.

[00:56:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. I'm down.

[00:56:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. And by the way, when you say Laz missed the last two months of Modesto by

[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_03]: missed it, the reason he missed it quote unquote is he got promoted.

[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_03]: So pretty cool.

[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty cool.

[00:56:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Accomplishment.

[00:56:17] [SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's get to our Russell Wilson umpire of the week, man.

[00:56:21] [SPEAKER_01]: This was a first and we're talking about first in major league baseball.

[00:56:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Brennan Miller ejected Jose Altuve because he showed him his foot.

[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:56:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Now here's the problem with this segment.

[00:56:36] [SPEAKER_03]: We either have to side with an umpire or side with a Houston Astro.

[00:56:40] [SPEAKER_03]: So which one do we pick?

[00:56:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Altuve was wrong.

[00:56:45] [SPEAKER_03]: No, he wasn't.

[00:56:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I did think it was hilarious.

[00:56:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Even like being a dick really.

[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So, so the play was Altuve was in the box.

[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_01]: He fouled the ball off his foot and rolled in fair turret territory down the third

[00:56:55] [SPEAKER_01]: baseline.

[00:56:56] [SPEAKER_01]: The Padres convert the out umpire calls it a fair ball.

[00:56:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Altuve was like, no, it hit off my foot.

[00:57:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Manager comes out to try and defend him.

[00:57:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Altuve then in an effort to prove his point takes off his cleat and his sock to

[00:57:09] [SPEAKER_01]: show the, like the bruise on his foot from where the ball hit.

[00:57:12] [SPEAKER_01]: The umpire takes one look at his foot, Brennan Miller and tosses him out of the

[00:57:16] [SPEAKER_01]: game.

[00:57:17] [SPEAKER_03]: I did think it was, it was something that he, he fully took off his sock.

[00:57:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, how else was he supposed to prove it?

[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.

[00:57:27] [SPEAKER_03]: But did he think, did he think by taking off his sock and showing them his bare

[00:57:31] [SPEAKER_03]: foot, that that was going to change the umpire's mind?

[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, a reasonable umpire maybe.

[00:57:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, umpires and reasonable.

[00:57:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's new.

[00:57:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Did Brennan Miller seem very secure?

[00:57:44] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no.

[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Probably because he saw the contusion and realized he messed up and the best way to

[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_01]: solve the problem as all umpires know is to throw the guy out of the game.

[00:57:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter if he was right or not.

[00:57:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Get them right off the field.

[00:57:58] [SPEAKER_03]: See ya buddy.

[00:58:00] [SPEAKER_03]: See ya buddy.

[00:58:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Can't argue anymore.

[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:58:03] [SPEAKER_03]: You can go hit first.

[00:58:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:58:04] [SPEAKER_03]: You've never seen that before.

[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_03]: No.

[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:58:07] [SPEAKER_03]: He, he said, I'll too.

[00:58:08] [SPEAKER_03]: They can go hit the showers is what he said.

[00:58:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Do we not have to give an honorable mention to the moron that was behind the

[00:58:13] [SPEAKER_03]: plate in the Wednesday Mariners Yankees game, which by the way, most of those

[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_03]: calls were actually in the Mariners favor.

[00:58:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Mariners had a couple that went against them, but I mean, it was, it was next

[00:58:25] [SPEAKER_03]: level bad in that game.

[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Who was the home plate?

[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it was Jim Wolf.

[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_03]: That's who it was.

[00:58:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't even check his umpire scorecard today yet.

[00:58:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm guessing it was terrible.

[00:58:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Did we check into the Michael K show today to see what his reaction was?

[00:58:37] [SPEAKER_03]: No, no.

[00:58:38] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think we probably should do that.

[00:58:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Probably should do that after we're done recording.

[00:58:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm down.

[00:58:43] [SPEAKER_01]: There's anyone who has no filter when it comes to calling people out?

[00:58:47] [SPEAKER_01]: It'd be, it'd be him.

[00:58:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:58:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I got it while we're still sitting here on this segment.

[00:58:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I got to find Wolf scorecard because it has to be so bad.

[00:58:56] [SPEAKER_03]: I, and, and hand up.

[00:58:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I should have looked before we even started the show, but now that we're on

[00:59:00] [SPEAKER_03]: the topic of talking about it, I have to, Oh my God.

[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I found it.

[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_03]: There's, there's like off, it's like all over the place.

[00:59:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was slow calling balls and strikes.

[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Like he had.

[00:59:15] [SPEAKER_03]: So his, all his missed calls on balls and strikes.

[00:59:17] [SPEAKER_03]: There was here one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12,

[00:59:22] [SPEAKER_03]: 13, 14, 15, 16 missed balls and strikes.

[00:59:27] [SPEAKER_03]: He gave the Mariners.

[00:59:28] [SPEAKER_03]: So imagine this, the Mariners still lost last night by scoring one run, but he

[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_03]: gave the Mariners 1.66 runs last night.

[00:59:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So Jim Wolf outscored the Mariners.

[00:59:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:59:42] [SPEAKER_01]: So the Mariners would have scored negative runs if not for him.

[00:59:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:59:47] [SPEAKER_03]: If, if they had a good umpire behind the plate, negative runs.

[00:59:51] Wow.

[00:59:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Talking about firsts talking about things that only this franchise could do.

[00:59:57] [SPEAKER_01]: That checks out negative runs.

[01:00:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:00:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, we've spoke our mind a lot on this podcast already, but let's get to it.

[01:00:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's get to speak your mind.

[01:00:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Speak your mind.

[01:00:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Spoke.

[01:00:14] [SPEAKER_00]: That would be unwise.

[01:00:16] [SPEAKER_00]: What is necessary is never unwise.

[01:00:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Is there anything else you would like to talk about this week?

[01:00:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to give a shout out to Gino Smith.

[01:00:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe there were like three, four, five weeks ago.

[01:00:31] [SPEAKER_01]: There were actual conversations about Sam Howell being in competition for the Seahawks

[01:00:37] [SPEAKER_01]: starting quarterback job.

[01:00:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, are we serious?

[01:00:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Like sitting back, how refreshing was it to like kind of sit there and watch Gino

[01:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: operate last Sunday against the Pats?

[01:00:46] [SPEAKER_01]: How great was that?

[01:00:48] [SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was great.

[01:00:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Russell Wilson had some just amazing years as a Seahawk and amazing quarterback

[01:00:54] [SPEAKER_01]: performances doing things that Gino can't do frankly, because of his legs.

[01:00:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But the way Gino sat there last Saturday with no running game, a crummy offensive

[01:01:03] [SPEAKER_01]: line, a defense that was getting absolutely chewed up on the ground and for Gino to

[01:01:08] [SPEAKER_01]: just sit back there in like total control, manipulate the pocket through 44 passes

[01:01:13] [SPEAKER_01]: with zero inaccurate throws.

[01:01:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, come on.

[01:01:17] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty good.

[01:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: People wanted Sam Howell to start instead.

[01:01:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And now instead Gino's ranked as like a top 10 quarterback in football.

[01:01:27] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, who's going to be, have to open the checkbook and then off season.

[01:01:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Gino makes it the next 15 weeks like this Lyle Jody Allen.

[01:01:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Open up the checkbook.

[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Screw the 40 million when we filled in for Rockin Saga.

[01:01:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I think what was the idea?

[01:01:40] [SPEAKER_01]: We threw out the Kirk Cousins contract.

[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That was 45.

[01:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[01:01:46] [SPEAKER_03]: It's 45, something like that.

[01:01:47] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, now if he has a season like this, he's just going to get paid the

[01:01:50] [SPEAKER_03]: going rate of quarterbacks, which is in the fifties.

[01:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to go over 50.

[01:01:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.

[01:01:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's hard to build a roster like that, but how can you blame Gino?

[01:01:59] [SPEAKER_01]: He's played incredible and he's doing this in his thirties too.

[01:02:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:02:03] [SPEAKER_03]: And, and the Seahawks cannot afford to let him go because this quarterback

[01:02:08] [SPEAKER_03]: class upcoming in 2025 is terrible.

[01:02:11] [SPEAKER_03]: You're also probably going to be good enough where you're not

[01:02:13] [SPEAKER_03]: going to have a very high pick.

[01:02:14] [SPEAKER_03]: So what do you do?

[01:02:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, you can't like, like again, he's been, he's been way too good.

[01:02:19] [SPEAKER_03]: You got to keep them.

[01:02:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And this does make things interesting for the Seahawks because they.

[01:02:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's not all going to happen at once, but you're going to have to pick

[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_03]: and choose who you prioritize with contracts because there are going to be

[01:02:30] [SPEAKER_03]: guys that are going to be worth it.

[01:02:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Charles cross keeps this up with how amazing he's looked through two

[01:02:35] [SPEAKER_03]: weeks at left tackle this year.

[01:02:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you have to pay him.

[01:02:38] [SPEAKER_03]: You can't let your left tackle go, especially if you've got an elite left

[01:02:41] [SPEAKER_03]: tackle, but that was a really hard to find after, after Walter Jones and

[01:02:46] [SPEAKER_03]: especially after Russell cone left Seahawks struggle with that for a long

[01:02:50] [SPEAKER_03]: time.

[01:02:50] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, okay.

[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_03]: And then they found a way in Brown too.

[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_03]: But think about all the years they didn't have a solidified guy there.

[01:02:54] [SPEAKER_03]: It was brutal.

[01:02:55] [SPEAKER_03]: You can't let a left, a left tackle go, especially somebody as young as cross.

[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_03]: So you got him sure.

[01:03:00] [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to have to pay Devin Witherspoon at some point.

[01:03:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Boy, Maffei keeps this up.

[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_03]: You're probably gonna have to pay him.

[01:03:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Obviously this is all factoring in Gino too.

[01:03:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:03:07] [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to have to pick and choose your spots because there's going to be

[01:03:10] [SPEAKER_03]: guys that you have to keep.

[01:03:12] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of very hard decisions coming up.

[01:03:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:03:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But at least they won't have to make those this season because this might be like

[01:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: this legitimately might be the only season.

[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Depending on what happens in the off season, of course, that you can have,

[01:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: like, think of having all of these pieces together at once.

[01:03:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we're talking, let's say Gino, Mike McDonald, Ryan grub, who by the way,

[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: if he keeps it up, he's not going to be far away from a head coaching position.

[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_01]: If he takes this offense and just lights things on fire, it would not be that far

[01:03:43] [SPEAKER_01]: away.

[01:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: If that's something he wants, like Maffei Witherspoon cross, like it is going to

[01:03:48] [SPEAKER_01]: be very hard to keep all of these pieces together with the Seahawks.

[01:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Just why this year is so important now.

[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[01:03:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, this is the only time all these fun young pieces are going to be a

[01:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: cheap, but be together at the same time.

[01:04:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So cool.

[01:04:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I just want to get shout out.

[01:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I've watched more breakdowns on Gino's performance on Sunday against the

[01:04:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Pats than I have in a while.

[01:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And just like the advanced nature of it.

[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I like really just blows my mind.

[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_01]: The fact like this guy was a backup for like a decade and he is doing these things

[01:04:16] [SPEAKER_01]: like this stuff, like does not happen really.

[01:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I, as a quarterback, you have it or you don't pretty quick.

[01:04:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Ask Bryce young.

[01:04:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you have it or you don't?

[01:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And we don't know.

[01:04:29] [SPEAKER_03]: And the Panthers are a pretty bad org.

[01:04:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I bet you there's a chance Bryce could go somewhere else and be good.

[01:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: That's fair.

[01:04:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Like Bryce is lacking at the physical tools and Gino showed that you can be

[01:04:40] [SPEAKER_01]: terrible early in a crummy organization like the jets go somewhere else and thrive.

[01:04:46] [SPEAKER_01]: It's possible.

[01:04:48] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah.

[01:04:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not easy in the NFL.

[01:04:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I love the Gino's making it look really easy.

[01:04:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I love the Gino story.

[01:04:55] [SPEAKER_03]: He's, he's been one of my favorite Seahawks and a long time just because of

[01:04:58] [SPEAKER_03]: the whole redemption thing, how good he's been, the fact that he's now commanded

[01:05:02] [SPEAKER_03]: respect from around the league.

[01:05:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, and paired with, we don't have to watch anybody now fake warmup with cameras

[01:05:07] [SPEAKER_03]: on or do high knees on the plane or call yourself Mr.

[01:05:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Unlimited or tell your defense to yell runner pass, you know, all that stuff.

[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: What about a subway sandwich?

[01:05:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's subway sandwich.

[01:05:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I forgot about the danger, which, and then, you know, like having eye black and

[01:05:19] [SPEAKER_03]: shoulder pads on in a dome and week one when you're inactive.

[01:05:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:05:22] [SPEAKER_03]: You know all that.

[01:05:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't miss any of them.

[01:05:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's still not starting this week too, right?

[01:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: It's fields.

[01:05:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Did they officially announce it's fields again?

[01:05:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, fields was practicing this week.

[01:05:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm probably did Russ were shoulder pads week too.

[01:05:37] [SPEAKER_01]: He did.

[01:05:41] [SPEAKER_03]: And again, I think it's because of the whole emergency QB thing, but even still

[01:05:44] [SPEAKER_01]: like, but like, I didn't know you, I thought you had to be, you can, so you

[01:05:49] [SPEAKER_01]: have to be, you can be inactive and be the emergency quarterback.

[01:05:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess.

[01:05:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that's a new rule in the league this year.

[01:05:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:05:56] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.

[01:05:57] [SPEAKER_03]: It's the whole thing still ridiculous.

[01:05:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Like if there was no emergency quarterback, I think Russ would

[01:06:03] [SPEAKER_01]: still wear shoulder pads and I black.

[01:06:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Same.

[01:06:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Um, yeah.

[01:06:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, I was trying to even think of something non-sports related

[01:06:13] [SPEAKER_03]: to talk about for speak your mind.

[01:06:14] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like, like the things in my head are the fact that ASU somehow

[01:06:19] [SPEAKER_03]: magically three and O in football, which is, I mean, which is sports related.

[01:06:22] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.

[01:06:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how, I mean, yes, they were favoring a couple of those games, but

[01:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: like all three of them, I just don't have much to say.

[01:06:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I, like Kenny Dillingham is pretty inspiring and all that.

[01:06:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I just don't have a ton of faith in the talent of this roster outside of

[01:06:36] [SPEAKER_03]: scatterboot, but I don't know.

[01:06:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I guess, I guess they have the second most talented

[01:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: roster in their conference.

[01:06:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you actually think that it's what it says?

[01:06:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Who, who had that again?

[01:06:49] [SPEAKER_01]: 24 seven.

[01:06:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's crazy.

[01:06:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I guess that shows the big 12 is pretty bad, but now recruiting

[01:06:55] [SPEAKER_01]: rankings are not perfect.

[01:06:58] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, results have backed up.

[01:07:00] [SPEAKER_01]: They go on the road and win week one then or week one of conference.

[01:07:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.

[01:07:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Certainly show you a lot.

[01:07:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll say this college football season has been a little weird.

[01:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: It's been boring.

[01:07:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[01:07:12] [SPEAKER_01]: It's boring.

[01:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Weird.

[01:07:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Notre Dame had a huge, huge win over the USA.

[01:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And then they had a huge win over Purdue.

[01:07:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Good win for them to bounce back.

[01:07:22] [SPEAKER_03]: After a, have we mentioned on this podcast, you're Notre Dame fan?

[01:07:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Um, I feel like we have at some point.

[01:07:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:07:28] [SPEAKER_03]: So I grew up a pretty big fan.

[01:07:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I would say it's, I would say it's waned a little bit in recent years.

[01:07:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I like number one.

[01:07:37] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like now more than ever, the Mariners just take up so much energy.

[01:07:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, the Seahawks do too.

[01:07:41] [SPEAKER_03]: The Mariners and Seahawks both take up so much energy as it is paired with like,

[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.

[01:07:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I've thought like I grew up such a huge fan and I was a huge fan in college,

[01:07:49] [SPEAKER_03]: all that stuff.

[01:07:49] [SPEAKER_03]: And like, you know, I still watch the games, but like, I'm not like tied down

[01:07:53] [SPEAKER_03]: to every win and loss anymore paired with like, well, it would probably never

[01:07:57] [SPEAKER_03]: happen.

[01:07:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I have had real thoughts now.

[01:08:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Like if, if ASU was to play Notre Dame and a national title again, this is a

[01:08:03] [SPEAKER_03]: total hypothetical.

[01:08:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that would ever happen, but if that were to ever happen, like

[01:08:07] [SPEAKER_03]: what I really root against all our friends when, you know, this is what makes

[01:08:12] [SPEAKER_03]: being a fan of your school often as an alumni so fun is, you know, people, all

[01:08:16] [SPEAKER_03]: your friends come together for all these years moving forward to like go to all

[01:08:21] [SPEAKER_03]: these games and watch all these games together and tailgate and be fans.

[01:08:24] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm sure all our friends, if they were ever in a game like that would make

[01:08:27] [SPEAKER_03]: a trip out of it.

[01:08:28] [SPEAKER_03]: And if they were playing Notre Dame in a, in like a big game like that, I thought

[01:08:32] [SPEAKER_03]: to myself, would I really be the one that like roots against my alma mater and

[01:08:37] [SPEAKER_03]: like was against all my friends or whatever?

[01:08:39] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like, yeah, I don't, I don't think I do that.

[01:08:41] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, like, like I still like to watch Notre Dame football, but like I would

[01:08:46] [SPEAKER_03]: root for ASU over them to, to put that to bed at this point.

[01:08:49] [SPEAKER_03]: And like, yeah, well, I still like it.

[01:08:51] [SPEAKER_03]: It's just waned a little.

[01:08:52] [SPEAKER_01]: So you didn't break a TV in the north of Northern Illinois?

[01:08:57] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I was honestly kind of sitting there and chuckling.

[01:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think you and our friend Andrew could agree on them losing for the first

[01:09:03] [SPEAKER_01]: time ever then at that point.

[01:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: If only Notre Dame played a tougher schedule.

[01:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[01:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: If only seems like it seems like scheduling Northern Illinois at home is just too

[01:09:12] [SPEAKER_03]: much for the Irish after losing them after losing a Marshall two years ago to at

[01:09:18] [SPEAKER_03]: home.

[01:09:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like look, every, every team plays cupcakes.

[01:09:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Bama plays a stupid game at the end of the year, every year to so does Clemson.

[01:09:26] [SPEAKER_03]: So it was sort of a bunch of teams, but there's still teams playing cupcakes this

[01:09:29] [SPEAKER_01]: week.

[01:09:29] [SPEAKER_01]: It's week four.

[01:09:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe that.

[01:09:33] [SPEAKER_01]: See, this is why I think college football loses some people.

[01:09:36] [SPEAKER_01]: There are just so many uninteresting games.

[01:09:38] [SPEAKER_01]: The NFL does not have one single uninteresting week, right?

[01:09:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Not a single one.

[01:09:42] [SPEAKER_01]: But college football mails in a quarter, a quarter to a third of their schedule

[01:09:46] [SPEAKER_01]: every single year.

[01:09:49] [SPEAKER_03]: It's true.

[01:09:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Also, I feel like last thing, if I was going to pick one non sports thing, I feel

[01:09:54] [SPEAKER_03]: like I still feel like I need some new music.

[01:09:57] [SPEAKER_03]: There hasn't been a lot of new music out recently.

[01:09:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think this is just part of our like evolution of artists.

[01:10:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Is it not?

[01:10:03] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I still listen to a lot of hip hop.

[01:10:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I just, there hasn't been a lot of new albums out.

[01:10:08] [SPEAKER_01]: But like the prime of the artists we, you know, were in college listening to don't

[01:10:13] [SPEAKER_01]: release as often now they're not in their primes.

[01:10:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, would you say Travis Scott is in his prime still?

[01:10:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I would say no, no.

[01:10:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Lil Uzi doesn't make as many albums anymore.

[01:10:22] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like, I'm like, I'm, I'm like a big Don Tolliver fan.

[01:10:24] [SPEAKER_03]: He's like, he still makes a lot of music.

[01:10:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Mm hmm.

[01:10:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Like who else?

[01:10:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Like Post Malone's all over the place.

[01:10:30] [SPEAKER_01]: He's a country artist now.

[01:10:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[01:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: So like, I would say, like, is he not, is he out of his prime?

[01:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a difficult question.

[01:10:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Is he the same?

[01:10:38] [SPEAKER_01]: No, he's not.

[01:10:41] [SPEAKER_01]: So, so stuff like that.

[01:10:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[01:10:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I've kind of like evolved.

[01:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: It just like, I will listen to music depending on my mood.

[01:10:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I still have a lot of my hip hop playlist, but I also have like different,

[01:10:53] [SPEAKER_01]: different driving, I guess, ideas.

[01:10:55] [SPEAKER_03]: You said you listened to like house music a lot, right?

[01:10:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[01:10:57] [SPEAKER_01]: House music.

[01:10:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll listen to some Coldplay.

[01:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Um, I listen to some, yeah.

[01:11:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[01:11:03] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty much the, that trio of stuff.

[01:11:07] [SPEAKER_01]: So it, like it evolves a little bit.

[01:11:09] [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't always have to be new.

[01:11:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I would like some like new prime Travis Scott.

[01:11:13] [SPEAKER_01]: That'd be great.

[01:11:13] [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think that's ever coming again.

[01:11:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So I just kind of set my expectation to that.

[01:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: That's fair.

[01:11:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Or I guess you just have to find whoever the new popular hip hop artists are.

[01:11:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I just feel like there's not one that stands above everybody else right now.

[01:11:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[01:11:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I, Hey, there's a juice rolled album coming up in a couple months.

[01:11:30] [SPEAKER_01]: That I'm excited about.

[01:11:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:11:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's still, I guess, wildly enough got a lot of unreleased music.

[01:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: So he's got, I know we had like thousands of unreleased songs.

[01:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: We passed.

[01:11:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So be nice as a, as the world's number one juice world fan.

[01:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to complain.

[01:11:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Sure.

[01:11:46] [SPEAKER_03]: All right.

[01:11:47] [SPEAKER_03]: So there's one non-baseball thing or one non-sports thing.

[01:11:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, hopefully people made it through that episode.

[01:11:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Hopefully you made it through all of our ranting and raving.

[01:11:55] [SPEAKER_03]: We needed it.

[01:11:56] [SPEAKER_03]: We needed an outlet today.

[01:11:58] [SPEAKER_03]: So thanks for bearing with us people.

[01:12:00] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to guess a lot of you feel the same way.

[01:12:02] [SPEAKER_03]: So again, hopefully we resonated with a lot of you on this one.

[01:12:05] [SPEAKER_01]: So, well, someone's going to find a way to call us a Jerry

[01:12:07] [SPEAKER_01]: bootlicker in the comments.

[01:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So to whoever that is, if, if you managed to come away from this episode with that.

[01:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Shout out to you, man.

[01:12:16] [SPEAKER_01]: You're one of a kind.

[01:12:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[01:12:17] [SPEAKER_03]: We commend you.

[01:12:19] [SPEAKER_03]: All right.
