[00:00:00] Welcome to Episode 166 of the Marine Layer Podcast.

[00:00:04] The Mariners are hanging on for dear life in the postseason race after Game One in Houston.

[00:00:09] We'll comb through the Mariners weekend and the opener against the Astros.

[00:00:30] All of it helps.

[00:00:31] On social media, you guys are on social.

[00:00:33] Come on.

[00:00:34] Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube shorts, at Marine Layer Podcast.

[00:00:38] Go hit us with a follow.

[00:00:40] Let's get it rolling.

[00:00:53] We welcome you to the episode of the Marin Layer Podcast Part of the Just Baseball Podcast

[00:00:58] Network.

[00:00:59] Recording Monday, evening, September 23rd, post game of Game One against the Houston Astros,

[00:01:04] the Mariners.

[00:01:06] Technically, stay alive in the Division race and are now a game and a half back

[00:01:10] of the American League Wild card.

[00:01:13] Opening thoughts, uh, Bryce Miller does have that dog in him.

[00:01:18] My God.

[00:01:20] Oh, my goodness, best start of the year.

[00:01:22] Seven shot out in Houston, back to against the wall, season basically on the line,

[00:01:27] totally unfazed.

[00:01:28] And he was dominant.

[00:01:29] He was using all of his pitches.

[00:01:31] He kept Houston off balance.

[00:01:32] Didn't really give up much hard hit contact.

[00:01:35] You name it.

[00:01:36] Like, you want to talk about two guys in Bryce Miller and Brian Wu who had their

[00:01:41] issues down the stretch last year.

[00:01:43] I know Wu didn't have his best start on Sunday.

[00:01:44] We can get to that later.

[00:01:45] But for Bryce Miller, 180, Bryce Miller wasn't doing this last year.

[00:01:50] Now he is.

[00:01:52] And his season era is below three now.

[00:01:54] Bryce Miller's era is below three.

[00:01:57] In the best case scenario preseason, if you told us Bryce Miller would have a two

[00:02:01] nine four year rate in September 23rd.

[00:02:04] I'd say that's not possible.

[00:02:05] I don't think I didn't, I don't feel like Bryce.

[00:02:09] All right, at least preseason didn't feel like he used the run prevention

[00:02:11] type enough to do that.

[00:02:13] But man, oh man, since July 1st, he has a two point zero one year rate.

[00:02:19] We read it back to you over half of the season, half of the season, 2.01.

[00:02:26] There's actually another stat loud that I think is a little more shocking

[00:02:29] when it comes to how good Bryce Miller has been.

[00:02:32] No, it's roadier race instead point low 2.12.

[00:02:38] We spend a lot of time and multiple episodes talking about how he couldn't

[00:02:42] pitch on the road.

[00:02:45] And by the way, that doesn't factor in this start against the Astros.

[00:02:48] I know that's insane.

[00:02:50] So it's really, absolutely insane.

[00:02:53] And you balance that out with what he does at home is his era is two nine

[00:02:57] four year array ballooned a little bit or the opt whatever the

[00:03:02] opposite of ballooned is because of team mobile part.

[00:03:05] Is his era a significantly lower because of where he pitches his home

[00:03:08] games?

[00:03:09] Yes, I think we'd be crazy to say anything otherwise.

[00:03:13] But the fact he has a two Bryce Miller, Bryce freaking Miller has a two

[00:03:17] nine four year array here at the end of September.

[00:03:19] He's going to get one more start this season.

[00:03:21] I believe he's lined up to pitch the finale right now.

[00:03:25] What number of markable stamp on Bryce Miller season?

[00:03:28] Seriously.

[00:03:29] Yeah, it's great.

[00:03:31] Hopefully the Mariners are still somehow in it on the last day of the season.

[00:03:34] And his last start really matters, but yeah, again, to do what he's done in the

[00:03:39] second half, build the stamina that he's building off of on year one pitch deep

[00:03:43] into games late in the season, meaningful games, crucial games and to go out and

[00:03:47] pitch like that, master class.

[00:03:50] He had 20 whiffs tonight, by the way.

[00:03:51] And it was it was pretty spread out with all the different pitches he likes to use.

[00:03:56] I mean, the guy had what he had six on the foreseen five on the

[00:04:00] footer three on the curve, two on the slider, one on the cutter and three on the

[00:04:06] sweepers.

[00:04:06] So you're talking about mixing in all your pitches and getting guys to swing and

[00:04:09] miss at all your pitches.

[00:04:11] Again, this was a guy that was basically throwing two pitches by the end of last year.

[00:04:14] Not anymore.

[00:04:16] And just think about how his start ended here on Monday.

[00:04:19] He could have unraveled.

[00:04:21] He could have fell apart and the game could have been significantly different tonight.

[00:04:24] And this podcast could have a significantly different tone while I could be a little

[00:04:28] bit more bitter and angry right now than we currently are.

[00:04:30] If Bryce Miller has a bad seventh inning, but what did Bryce Miller do after he had

[00:04:34] two on and one out in the seventh inning while he came back and he struck out the next two

[00:04:38] hitters.

[00:04:39] Even though he had been cruising to that point at all of a sudden his pitch count balloons

[00:04:43] he's laboring a little bit.

[00:04:45] He's probably tired.

[00:04:46] It's the end of the season.

[00:04:47] He's throwing a ton of innings after today.

[00:04:50] He's going to be over 180 innings this season by far the most he's ever thrown in a

[00:04:54] season.

[00:04:55] He could have easily just wilted at that point, but he didn't.

[00:04:59] He finished extremely strong and the Mariners even got Edward Prasardo in the game.

[00:05:05] Well, shout out the offense for giving Edward Bazar to the chance to pitch a game.

[00:05:08] You know what usually happens in these games?

[00:05:11] The oven says absolutely nothing when a starter pitches really well like that.

[00:05:15] They picked him up, picked him up late in the game.

[00:05:18] A lot of insurance shrunk some hits together.

[00:05:21] And they won by five runs.

[00:05:23] They won by five.

[00:05:25] It was a full,

[00:05:27] fledged team effort when with all three sides of the ball doing their part and doing what

[00:05:32] they were supposed to do.

[00:05:33] We talked about the Mariners want to stay in this thing.

[00:05:35] They have to play their best three games of the season in this series against

[00:05:38] the Astros and they're a third of the way there because that is that is about as good

[00:05:42] a game as you can play.

[00:05:44] Now will the Mariners make it through this series with the out the Astros celebrating

[00:05:49] a division win?

[00:05:50] I would say still unlikely,

[00:05:52] but you still got to feel very good for what the Mariners did here in game one.

[00:05:57] Now, here's the problem.

[00:06:00] Are we going to address the elephant in the room?

[00:06:03] That was yesterday.

[00:06:05] Yeah, are we ready to act actually before we even get to that?

[00:06:08] Well, I do have to do one negative thing here in this game.

[00:06:11] The team's base running is still just jaw dropping unbelievable.

[00:06:16] Like Dylan, we're getting thrown out like that at third when you needed that insurance run

[00:06:19] at the time.

[00:06:21] Come on, like how many times can they make these base running mistakes over the course of one week?

[00:06:28] Well, if I had an answer for you, I'd be a base coach and make more money.

[00:06:34] As I said in our post game reaction,

[00:06:36] it's probably Scott's services fault.

[00:06:40] Obviously, yeah, it's the fault guy.

[00:06:43] He has to take the blame.

[00:06:44] So these games, while against Houston would feel a little bit

[00:06:48] they're pretty important, but they I'd feel almost more important if the Mariners won yesterday didn't blow a five nothing lead.

[00:06:54] I mean, just to I'm still struggling to process what happened on Sunday.

[00:06:59] I seriously am and given where the Mariners would be position-wise right now,

[00:07:03] the ability to save their season and make the playoffs if they just won on Sunday.

[00:07:07] It just it it almost blows my mind what happened in Dallas.

[00:07:13] What happened in our league?

[00:07:14] Five nothing lead in the sixth inning.

[00:07:16] Five nothing lead against a non-play off team and it insane pitching advantage match up.

[00:07:22] Brian Movers Andrew Heaney and it they blow again.

[00:07:28] I'm going to lost, they would be a half game out right now, the wild card race, half game out with

[00:07:34] so you would have passed the twins by now or just in a spiral, they're in a spiral.

[00:07:40] And then the Royals who don't have an easy schedule to finish this season.

[00:07:43] We're also spiraling. You'd be half game behind them and then it would be you in the

[00:07:48] Tigers in the wild card if you could finish strong.

[00:07:51] But instead now it's a game and a half like think of how much bigger that feels now.

[00:07:59] Five nothing.

[00:08:03] Oh, oh, oh, oh, I forgot the most important part.

[00:08:06] This series would still match. You'd still have a chance to win the division.

[00:08:10] Oh yeah, you would because if if you were for out entering this series,

[00:08:13] you'd sweep, then you're a game out with three to play.

[00:08:17] The Astros have to play the guardians. You're playing the A's at home and you have the tiebreaker.

[00:08:22] Like, you know, this is what they do. They just build up all season long

[00:08:28] and then when things get important it looks like this.

[00:08:33] And then there's a Sunday where literally everything possibly right happens.

[00:08:38] The Astros lose the Royals lose the twins lose twice.

[00:08:43] And you have a five nothing leave in the 60 against a non playoff team.

[00:08:48] And more could you ask for again, I'm going through every game that just piss me off beyond

[00:08:56] belief of the Mariners don't get into the playoffs because as some social posts next week

[00:09:00] because the eight games against the angels, the Royals, eight nothing blown lead.

[00:09:05] That game against the Rangers. Honestly, the game against the Rangers at home last Thursday.

[00:09:08] There's all three single game against the Tigers.

[00:09:12] Like, there's not every game against the Tigers, but oh, there's some games against the

[00:09:16] Tigers. Like the ones with Jimmy Garcia blew. Oh yeah, that one those.

[00:09:20] He's four of those games against the Tigers. You probably should have won.

[00:09:24] I didn't think they got blown out in one. But the rest of them.

[00:09:28] Yeah, yeah, I'm going to be going through a lot of those games saying, you know,

[00:09:33] imagine if they just want a couple of these. Imagine if you actually hadn't scored the

[00:09:37] total runs at home in July against the Angels in three games. Imagine where you'd be right now.

[00:09:42] Or if you just done what you were supposed to do against the Angel, see the Astros? Yeah,

[00:09:46] should be the Angels in three or four this past weekend because the Astros are a contender.

[00:09:51] The Angels are a bottom feeder and they took care of business. They won the series even if

[00:09:55] they didn't sweep up four game series, which is hard for any team to do. Mariners are one and eight

[00:10:01] in their last nine games against the Angels. One and eight. Imagine if you were eight and one.

[00:10:08] Imagine if you were four and four. Sorry, five and four in those games.

[00:10:14] There'll be a whole lot different. It is easy to hide sight the season. I would say. Like

[00:10:24] certainly it is. I think every team can go comb through their season and find games that piss them off.

[00:10:29] What was different about Sundays? You understood what was that state. You understood you literally

[00:10:33] could not afford to lose the game. You could afford to lose the game in August. You could afford to

[00:10:37] lose the game in July, June, May and April. Wow, right? Any of the one of those months. You can

[00:10:42] lose games. You're going to lose probably 60 games a season at least. Minimum, right? Am I correct?

[00:10:47] Sure. Sure. Yeah. So you can afford to lose games. If you don't happen when you get down

[00:10:51] to the final two weeks of the season and you painted yourself into a corner, you don't get that

[00:10:55] up to any more. You can't afford to lose games, especially when you open the week, losing two or

[00:11:01] three to the Yankees and really just getting out class against the Yankees. Right? They showed their

[00:11:05] a better team than you are, which sucks. But they showed it well in the only reason they scored

[00:11:12] three runs in that finale against the Yankees is because Jason Demingo dropped a fly ball. Otherwise

[00:11:16] you would have scored like a run again. So that leads up to Sunday where you understand we

[00:11:22] hold the lead now. We've swung the bat well against the Rangers in the last week. We have to

[00:11:27] hold this lead. Have to hold this lead and it didn't happen. And now the Mariners sit in the position

[00:11:33] they're in right now, which is an ideal. Their their playoff chances would be significantly higher

[00:11:39] right now if they had just won Sunday. Just forget the rest of the season. Just Sunday.

[00:11:47] Nothing else. One single game turns around that you had in hand on Sunday and instead it's not.

[00:11:55] Instead it is hub, I mean, instead it's just more on Brandon what the Mariners have done forever for

[00:12:01] their history. Right? There is a reason, while they've only made the playoffs five times in 47

[00:12:08] seasons. Stuff like stuff little things like that. It sucks. It sucks for us as fans. Well,

[00:12:15] two seasons. It's on the verge of being 23. Yes, this is what happens. And you know,

[00:12:25] you want to give them credit because you know what they won Friday and Saturdays game and

[00:12:29] they were the better team in those games. It really looked like they were going to make an

[00:12:33] absolute statement on the Rangers and then it absolutely unraveled. Like I can't give

[00:12:39] Munoz that much blame again. Like he's going to he's going to give up a run every now and then

[00:12:43] it would have been nice. Obviously, after getting those first two outs he just got out of it.

[00:12:48] But number one, extra innings get very crazy and very fluky. Certainly know the Mariners

[00:12:53] haven't exactly always thrived in extra innings like especially well, especially when they're

[00:12:57] tasked with scoring a run from second base with nobody else. Sometimes they don't manage to even score

[00:13:02] the ghost runner. But yeah, like what had been nice for Munoz to get those out, sure. But

[00:13:10] hard while also gave up a Homer. The Mariners didn't add on anymore. Obviously, some of this

[00:13:14] was on woo because he gave up the big hit late into the sixth inning. Yeah, like again, the

[00:13:20] Mariners could add it on. Rangers bullpen's not good. But yeah, like they made such a statement

[00:13:25] Friday and Saturday and then the kill and momentum is unreal on Sunday. And now they have to

[00:13:32] win out pretty much. They went out. They will reach that 10 and two mark we set and final 12 games.

[00:13:38] It's unlikely. Wouldn't they be 9 and 3? Oh, they would damn it. I can't see we went to

[00:13:44] issue. I'm going to use that excuse. Not a math major. I'm not in 3. 9 and 3 would be close. But

[00:13:52] might not be enough. I mean, maybe maybe they can lose one more. It's given on given how the rest of

[00:13:59] the field and the wild card performs this week. But you shouldn't be banking on it. That's for sure.

[00:14:04] It's just because the royals have struggled. Look at all these series online, the swept against

[00:14:11] the tigers swept against the giants and then they have the nets, the royals do this week

[00:14:18] and they go to the braves. And that's probably a good thing for the Mariners. Braids are on the

[00:14:23] outside looking in right now. They have a series with the mats in the middle of the week. That will

[00:14:27] make almost determine the wild cards about it. The mats when they'll be in, if the brave sweep,

[00:14:31] they will jump into that nationally wild card spot. But if they don't beat the mats in this

[00:14:37] series, they're going to need to probably sweep the royals to get in, which is to the Mariners

[00:14:41] benefit. Both those teams are going to be playing as hard as possible to get into the playoffs.

[00:14:47] So that's a plus. How hilarious would it be? Do you know, do you know what's actually good

[00:14:50] thing before I before you add on your point? I think it's a good thing now, the tigers are the

[00:14:54] number two wild card. You don't have to chase them. The odds of you catching them on how they were playing

[00:14:59] and who they finished the season with were slick. But now they've passed the twins and the royals,

[00:15:06] which now that you only have to focus on the twins of the royals is a massive positive. Even if

[00:15:12] you don't have the tiebreaker because those teams are not playing as well as the tigers are.

[00:15:17] Alright, let me set the scene here. It's game 162. Mariners are still in it. They have a chance.

[00:15:23] Every game starts at the same time that day. They play the A's and they win. They win.

[00:15:30] Sold out ballpark a team oval. Everybody stays inside the stadium to watch the royals and the

[00:15:37] braves. They need a royal voss. They need a royal voss to get in and the entire crowd of rubs.

[00:15:44] Thanks to a braves win on a game winning homeer from Jared Freakin, Cal McBavy.

[00:15:51] Wow, there would be some people in those stands who had never cheered for him in his life.

[00:15:56] You know, I am I'm manifesting that endo existence. The Jared goes deep in game 162 or whatever

[00:16:02] meaningful game to help the Mariners get into the playoffs. How much has he been playing recently?

[00:16:09] He's not been playing well. I mean, he just plays against right. He's.

[00:16:14] Yeah, it's a tough going. He's still got a chance though. He's got a chance. Got a chance to help the

[00:16:20] game out. Be pretty sick. I would be I would be I would be laughing pretty hard to watch like Jerry and and Justin and

[00:16:30] Mariners ownership like jumping up and down over a calna comron. It's like, well,

[00:16:35] sorry. Good thing we saw your dog saves the season after all. Yeah, it's like they're all high five

[00:16:41] and over salary dumping them. Now here's my question for Jared if the braves are already out of the

[00:16:47] playoffs and his home or propel the Mariners into the playoffs speculation. What is Jared think?

[00:16:56] What are you insinuating that he'd strike out on purpose just despite the entire franchise?

[00:17:02] Well, we do know it wasn't they didn't exactly leave on the best of terms. A lot of the same

[00:17:08] you know a lot of the same people are in place. You know people people hold grudges? I'm just I'm just saying

[00:17:18] this is as speculated as a speculative third party here that Jared Kellenek

[00:17:24] steps up to the boxy. Taps his bat on home play and he takes a deep breath. He might scour.

[00:17:30] He might you know scammed the skin the ballpark. Might check the scoreboard.

[00:17:34] I checked the scoreboard. Do some calculations in his head fully full well knowing.

[00:17:40] Braves are out of it right now and he sees no that. Oh, wow card raises close.

[00:17:46] It's really close my season my season's already not going that well. It's really not.

[00:17:52] Does one strike out change that much? No. No, it doesn't. That would sound a think about.

[00:18:04] Listen, maybe I mean I think he's changed a little bit since he came up but I will say this.

[00:18:11] How he is exactly right now? I can't confirm but the Jared Kellenek that

[00:18:16] K like debuted in 2021 that dude. Oh, he would absolutely do something like that despite the organization.

[00:18:23] Now what is what he's like now? I don't know. The kid that came up in 2021. Oh, he would absolutely do that.

[00:18:29] And Loki like again to your point. It's like well my season already has been not up to the standards I wanted it to be.

[00:18:37] Would one strike out really kill anybody knowing knowing that in the back of my head I was really the Joker setting the hospital on fire with a bomb knowing I just totally spited the Mariners.

[00:18:51] That's I'm actually going to be like hopped on Twitter. He hasn't been on Twitter in like three years.

[00:18:55] Imagine if he hopped on Twitter for the first time in years.

[00:18:58] Quote tweeted the tweet of like the Mariners final final score tweet from the last day of the season with the Joker meme just walking away from the hospital.

[00:19:07] Are there any lyrics in country roads or it's like I'm I know it's like take me home, but is there any like send you home?

[00:19:16] Because then to really tie it back to the M's he puts some country roads lyrics on there.

[00:19:24] Listen people.

[00:19:26] This is where these podcasts are going at this point. We don't have like specific Mariners storylines to do to break down players or break down trends like this is where we're at like what is everybody care about right now how do the Mariners get into the playoffs? How can it happen?

[00:19:39] Who has to give them help around the league? So here's what we're talking about we're sitting here talking about how Jared County could either purposely spite the organization with a strikeout or propelled them into a playoffs spot potentially.

[00:19:52] Could we talk a little bit about his former minor league mate who just won player the week?

[00:19:57] Want to do that? Sure. Well,

[00:20:02] despite how his season has been as a whole which is actually it's turning out pretty nice.

[00:20:08] Hey, who the Rodriguez is reputation of this 20 24 season I think like if he continues what he's doing for this week and the Mariners make the playoffs.

[00:20:18] I think you and I are going to need to

[00:20:22] Well, well, we'll make our statements. I'd say about it when it arrives and when we talk about it

[00:20:28] We'd obviously have postseason baseball to talk about but the perception of gluero Rodriguez is 20 24 season if he keeps up this stretch

[00:20:35] Use on where his last 23 games he has over a thousand OPS he has eight home runs. He's been unbelievable

[00:20:41] Where if he tracks this team into the playoffs

[00:20:44] Doing what he is doing and his numbers at the end of the year look like

[00:20:50] 120 WRC plus he's worth four wins

[00:20:53] Then a lot of people will be like was it really that bad?

[00:20:59] I mean this is what we said a couple weeks ago when we were a value in Eholyo when we did it on one of our former podcasts

[00:21:06] We said that if he got so hot and said temper that he propelled this team into the playoffs

[00:21:09] A yes, we would reevaluate where we're at with Hulio Rodriguez in 2024 because it's a big deal

[00:21:16] It's funny. He's not far off all of a sudden

[00:21:19] from ending with four

[00:21:21] Fan Graps war for the year and a 120 WRC plus which is hilarious to say

[00:21:25] Because just a short month ago it didn't feel like he was even gonna get close to that

[00:21:30] Entering today

[00:21:31] He was at a 3.7 fan Graps war and about a 1 16 WRC plus

[00:21:38] He's up to one 17 now

[00:21:40] Oh, so one 17 well it hasn't updated yet for today. Oh, no. It's update. No. This is the update of one for today one 17

[00:21:47] Like it already updated the Astros game fan Graps has the little live update thing

[00:21:52] Before it updates everything else so it's at one 17 right now after after his three hit day today

[00:21:59] So

[00:22:00] There's a real chance and he he is gonna reach four wins

[00:22:05] Unless he doesn't get to hit the rest of the season. He's probably gonna reach a four win season

[00:22:08] So then you compare to the rest of his seasons. Lyle I mean we're talking about a four win season opposed to a six from last year

[00:22:15] There's only gonna be eight points of WRC plus separation between this season and last season and he had the nuclear

[00:22:21] August to really propel his season last year

[00:22:24] Well since July for let's let's do July fourth because it's a it's more cherry picked and and looks a lot better

[00:22:31] He's almost been that hot

[00:22:33] Over that stretch

[00:22:35] So it's been a longer sample on top of that there is an injury in the middle of it and what happens if he doesn't get hurt?

[00:22:41] And he actually can sort of a doesn't have to stop playing for three weeks and nurse a health

[00:22:47] A healthy nurse an injured ankle to get back in his shape. It's

[00:22:52] It's remarkable the kind of talent he has to get back on track and also I just want to kind of laugh a little bit since we've brought an up Jared and

[00:23:00] Julio and we want to go back to

[00:23:02] Speaking of July fourth when Julio really turned it around what we did on July first

[00:23:07] comparing those two

[00:23:10] Yes official statement of the Marine layer podcast Jared Kellenck and Julio Rodriguez have gone in complete opposite directions since we did that episode

[00:23:19] That's just a bad word

[00:23:21] Well, and just to add more detail that on that episode

[00:23:24] We proclaim they've been the same offensive player over the last year and a half because at that time

[00:23:29] Both of them had a 112 WRC plus since the start of 2023 and well

[00:23:34] It is really gone too opposite direction since then. So yes

[00:23:38] Julio is the better player

[00:23:40] You know say to that actually oh start go ahead, sorry. Oh, Julio just has the ability to be an aircraft carrier when he gets hot and

[00:23:47] And lift this team

[00:23:50] You know and anchor an offense basically

[00:23:53] However, I will say and now in spite all that look if we just read the numbers at the end of the year to try to summarize the season and we see four

[00:24:03] Man grabs wins 120 WRC plus that's

[00:24:06] Objectively a very good year. That's an all-star level year

[00:24:10] And nobody can despite that or dispute that that being said if you want to look just past the basics like that like season overalls a whole

[00:24:19] Because he's gotten so hot when he has

[00:24:22] If they don't make the playoffs

[00:24:25] There are going to be very much vibes to Julio's hot September stretch of Chris Paul hits huge three to cut the deficit to 42

[00:24:34] No, he got a little closer

[00:24:36] So first point. I'm gonna give us a pet on the back remarkably good content timing

[00:24:42] Right, remark really good, especially when they started going in their other directions

[00:24:47] Right, I'm gonna start that what we said at that moment was true

[00:24:50] So we don't regret it for a second but it is also objectively true

[00:24:54] Is that the town Julio Rodriguez has shown at the big league level has since elevated him and has shown why he is a better baseball player than Jared Khanakis

[00:25:04] That is a fact

[00:25:07] But it's interesting you bring up Julio's season as a whole. You look at it objectively and you say very good season

[00:25:14] But there's also I feel like there does need to be context because Julio had to do a lot of growing during this season

[00:25:21] The season as a whole looks like oh he looks like a young star having a good season with really good defense and center

[00:25:27] Any idea to deal with an injury? Oh, man

[00:25:30] It's amazing. He managed to get through all of it and and and finish this hot. That's great

[00:25:35] But we also understand the context of the season is that a lot of the Mariners offensive struggles throughout the year

[00:25:43] Can also directly tie back to him that also can be true the first half of the season if he was hitting like he was right now

[00:25:51] We wouldn't be talking about the Mariners offense like we talked about back then

[00:25:55] There would be it would be a different tone significantly and they would have one more games

[00:25:59] Even though they were winning games back then they would have one more

[00:26:02] Because that's what having a player to Julio's caliber does about that

[00:26:07] So there's there needs to be layers to how his season is evaluated

[00:26:12] Going into next year and we talk about it. I don't think you could just blank itly save. Oh, he had a

[00:26:18] Objectively good complete

[00:26:21] 2024 season he had a very good second half of his 20 24 season but he still needs to show

[00:26:29] And he'd agree full season if he does that for full season is none to be candidate

[00:26:34] No one's doubting that

[00:26:36] Yeah

[00:26:37] But all you can hope for in the final six games the year no five now five games the year he stays hot

[00:26:43] And he continues to anchor this offense because that is the only way they're getting into the playoffs

[00:26:48] He has to continue doing this

[00:26:52] Hopefully hopefully he can do it the rest of this astro series if you want a quick

[00:26:55] Preview what the pitching matchups are gonna be for the final two games of this set

[00:27:00] It's frambour versus Logan Gilbert on Tuesday when this podcast gets released

[00:27:04] And it's gonna be you say cocochi and George Kirby on Wednesday

[00:27:10] So hopefully Logan and George put together some of their best start to the year paired with the offense stays hot

[00:27:16] And Julio himself has to stay hot

[00:27:18] The mayor in her seasons gonna end in daylight with you say cocochi on the bump that would just be so fitting

[00:27:25] So unbelievably fitting talk about people who are not huge fans of the mayor nurse organization

[00:27:31] Mr. You say cocochi as far as we know not a huge fan

[00:27:36] Has he said that publicly? I actually don't remember. I don't think so, but he wasn't exactly lining up to sign back with the Mariners

[00:27:42] I know they he didn't like how he was used

[00:27:45] Well, the Mariners did yank him out of the rotation because he'd been so bad the final week at 2021 because I didn't trust them

[00:27:50] So yeah, is it in recent

[00:27:52] So then that actually will revisit do the Mariners

[00:27:57] Yeah, did it dislike him or is a picture or does he dislike them more as an organization?

[00:28:02] I don't know something about maybe wasn't getting his 14 hours of sleep in Seattle. I don't know

[00:28:08] So I guess we will know on Wednesday if he's like flipping the double bird up it

[00:28:13] The press box as he's walking off after seven shutout innings on Wednesday afternoon

[00:28:19] Yeah, no that I think that would be pretty telling it is really it is really gonna suck if that happens

[00:28:24] That man is gonna is is gonna do the Mariners in to end the show

[00:28:28] You know that would just be so fitting especially if they win the first two games too

[00:28:32] Everybody's hopes are all of a sudden close to all the way back up and then you say just as the silencer on Wednesday afternoon

[00:28:41] Speaking of one of the reasons they didn't make the playoffs in 2021 especially in the second half

[00:28:48] Mr. cocochi

[00:28:50] Yeah, that's that it's very fitting

[00:28:53] You know, this is why the Astos traded for them. They didn't trade it for him just to pitch big innings

[00:28:58] They traded for him for this

[00:29:01] Very serious they know it's getting in the brains of the Mariners right here

[00:29:06] Some of those Mariners will bid on this team since 2021. I mean Dylan Moore is gonna be just right in the brain here

[00:29:12] It's gonna be just gonna be ingrained

[00:29:15] Right in the Mariners right in the psyche of this team

[00:29:19] Watching that man on the mound

[00:29:21] There's not many Mariners on this team. I know I was trying to think on the fly it's like demo

[00:29:27] Hanager

[00:29:28] Hanager

[00:29:29] Cal in his second second since then

[00:29:33] Cal

[00:29:34] That's it or JP and JP yeah, wow, no ape wow funny

[00:29:42] He should be here

[00:29:46] If we're talking about the you know the Astos should probably claim him on sign him at a triple A

[00:29:52] For this series. I'm shocked they didn't do that

[00:29:55] When I was a farm hand just to spite you yeah, yeah, could they do that can you sign you can't sign players at a triple A he need to be waived right?

[00:30:02] Yeah, he need to be waived but that would be the ultimate

[00:30:05] F U to the Mariners they sign you say an abe Toro for this final series of the season

[00:30:10] In you abe parks a couple in the Crawford boxes you say goes seven shutout

[00:30:16] Yeah, and and that's how the season ends now the season ends and then you and I show up on

[00:30:23] Friday's episode with the Joker masks on our face

[00:30:26] Well, one of us can do a Joker mask one of us can just have a paper bag over our head. Yeah, actually that would be pretty funny to do

[00:30:34] Regardless we should actually low keep think about that like the

[00:30:37] The first podcast we do after the season ends if they don't make the playoffs just do bags on our heads to start the episode

[00:30:43] I'm in that would low-key be pretty funny. Oh, man. Yeah, we'll we'll we'll think about that idea

[00:30:48] We'll think about that. We're gonna we're gonna have we're gonna have a content meeting about that. Yeah

[00:30:52] Let me I have a very important programming note for people before we start to kind of put this show

[00:30:59] To a close however before that

[00:31:01] Let us take a quick pause. We're talking to you about a friends of Pugaches Pub 85 because

[00:31:07] It's an awesome spot to go hang out

[00:31:09] You want to go watch the final week of the Mariners season. You want to go hang out with your friends and watch the games head over there

[00:31:14] It's great food. There's great drinks. There's darts. There's pool

[00:31:19] There's everything you need for a good time at a sports bar with your friends and if you go during happy hour

[00:31:23] 2 to 6 p.m. Money through Friday those are the happy hours drinks are three and four bucks

[00:31:27] Those are pretty good deals in fact that even say they're really good deals all that is over

[00:31:32] Pugaches Pub 85 in Kirkland go head over

[00:31:35] Okay

[00:31:36] Quick programming notes so everybody knows because we are in the final week of the regular season

[00:31:41] We're changing around our schedule for these podcasts being released just a little bit just for this week

[00:31:46] So

[00:31:48] This episode as you will clearly see listening to this and watching this is coming out on Tuesday

[00:31:53] Nothing's changing about any episodes being released Fridays

[00:31:56] Those will be there the only difference is for this show and

[00:32:00] The following show we put out next week

[00:32:04] It will be

[00:32:06] Not on Wednesday. It will be Monday so in other words this shows coming out Tuesday

[00:32:11] We've got in the then an episode Friday as we'll recap through the rest of the Astro series preview the A series

[00:32:16] We're gonna do a podcast on Monday like the morning right after the regular season ends

[00:32:21] And then if they don't make the playoffs

[00:32:24] Then our next episode after that Monday episode will be

[00:32:28] Friday in which case we'll just be back to regular programming at that point

[00:32:32] But we figured it's better to do an episode Tuesday rather than Wednesday because then if we wait till Wednesday

[00:32:37] There's two Astros games that are done. We released one on Friday. There's only one game to talk about just felt

[00:32:42] a little bit better way to chop it up in the final week and that's what we're gonna do it

[00:32:47] So yeah Tuesday Friday Monday Friday and after that will be back to normal

[00:32:52] And if there are playoffs we'll

[00:32:55] Robably do every game but yeah they gotta make it first

[00:32:58] They have to make it yeah now if they make yeah, they make the playoffs things change drastically

[00:33:01] Then yes, we are probably doing an episode immediately right after every game

[00:33:05] But if they don't that's our schedule

[00:33:07] Yeah, so yeah stay tuned to that it'll be back on regular schedule like the full week is the

[00:33:14] Not the week after the season the next week after that right would be we'd be back to normal

[00:33:19] So it'd be a second week of October. We would be fully

[00:33:23] fully back to normal and that Monday episode will be very telling oh yeah

[00:33:27] Of the of the tone of the season we got to pop club folks

[00:33:30] It is it is again must win territory

[00:33:34] It is you cannot you should not lose a game the rest of the season if you're anticipating making making the playoffs

[00:33:41] Right now yes

[00:33:43] One more time nothing's changing about Friday episodes there will still be shows out on Fridays

[00:33:47] It's just again one more time Tuesday Friday Monday Friday so

[00:33:51] Now you know

[00:33:53] All right like TJ said buckle up everybody it's gonna be

[00:33:57] Quite the final week one way or another, so
