Episode 191: What Would A Mets Trade For Luis Castillo Look Like?

Lyle and TJ address the Kyle Tucker trade to the Cubs (1:25). They then look at the rumors that the Mets called about Luis Castillo, and what a potential trade there would look like (23:42). The two of them wrap up with another name they could target after that seemed to fade out of the public eye: Anthony Santander (43:07).

[00:00:00] Welcome to episode number 191 of the Marine Layer Podcast. We have a Kyle Tucker elephant to address in the room. After that, we will take a look at some Mets rumors surrounding the Luis Castillo sweepstakes. Weren't a huge fan of some of those ideas, but we'll look into it and see if there's any chance of those deals happening. What else could open up after the Mariners trade Luis Castillo? We'll look at one potential option.

[00:01:03] Let's get it rolling.

[00:01:16] And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer Podcast, part of the Just Baseball Podcast Network, recording on Monday evening, December 16th.

[00:01:25] Some breaking news over the weekend since we last recorded. Kyle Tucker has been traded to the Chicago Cubs. I'm going to open it up to Lyle Goldstein for a statement.

[00:01:37] I am sure, sure, there are people tuning in today to listen to me potentially cry, be somber, tears streaming down my face, mourning.

[00:01:50] I got bad news, people. I ain't doing that. You know why? Because Kyle Daniel Tucker is still a Seattle Mariner.

[00:01:59] Is he a Seattle Mariner this second? No.

[00:02:02] But spin zone here, the odds actually just went up of him being a Mariner.

[00:02:09] Look, I thought Kyle Tucker was going to be a Mariner. I clearly jumped the gun.

[00:02:12] The baseball gods led me astray. Well, sorry, not astray. Not astray baseball gods. I know he's still going to be a Mariner.

[00:02:16] You just had me believing a little too early he was going to be a Mariner.

[00:02:21] Guess what? The Astros probably said they didn't want to trade him in division.

[00:02:25] When, and I say when, the Chicago Cubs start losing a bunch of games here this year,

[00:02:30] and they get into July and are forced to sell at the deadline,

[00:02:33] do you think they care where they trade Kyle Tucker?

[00:02:37] Nope. They probably just won't trade him in the NL Central.

[00:02:40] They'll probably be happy to get him out of the National League.

[00:02:42] And who's going to come calling at the deadline in July when they need offense?

[00:02:48] Jerry DiPoto and the Seattle Mariners.

[00:02:51] If that doesn't happen, well, he's just signing in free agency.

[00:02:54] Actually, and if that does happen, he's still signing in,

[00:02:57] he's still re-signing in free agency, in which case he will be a Mariner for life.

[00:03:01] So, for those of you that popped on today hoping to see me cry,

[00:03:04] quite the opposite.

[00:03:05] Oh, quite the contrary, my friends.

[00:03:08] Odds have now gone up of Kyle Tucker being a Mariner.

[00:03:10] Two potential dates now for the hike.

[00:03:13] August of 2025, or let's say January of 2026.

[00:03:19] Circle those two months on your calendar.

[00:03:21] The hike will be happening one of those two months.

[00:03:24] So, Lyle, now you can actually kind of look out into the future,

[00:03:28] and you can set yourself a training regimen.

[00:03:32] Right?

[00:03:33] Get yourself actually ready to show K-Tuck how much you've been looking forward to this.

[00:03:40] What do I keep telling you?

[00:03:41] I ain't training for this.

[00:03:42] I don't need no training.

[00:03:44] Yeah, you do.

[00:03:44] I don't think so.

[00:03:45] Yeah, you do.

[00:03:47] We'll find out once I have to do it.

[00:03:49] Because I will have to do it.

[00:03:50] I'm going to be honest.

[00:03:51] It actually isn't the craziest thing in the world to say he could be a Seattle Mariner at the deadline.

[00:03:57] I don't think so.

[00:03:59] Because even if we're going to sit here and guarantee he'll be a Seattle Mariner in free agency,

[00:04:05] it does not cost much money to acquire a player like Mr. Kyle Tucker at the deadline.

[00:04:10] And you know what Jerry DiPoto loves to say, Lyle, and he's already said it this offseason,

[00:04:15] need money in the budget to upgrade at the trade deadline.

[00:04:18] And now who would be so expensive to trade for at the trade deadline?

[00:04:24] It would be Kyle Tucker or Vladdy.

[00:04:27] Whichever they want.

[00:04:30] He's a Mariner.

[00:04:31] Listen, actually I need to ask you something.

[00:04:34] Is it worse to hike in the summer or the winter?

[00:04:37] So should I be dreading a hike?

[00:04:38] Well, not dreading because Kyle Tucker will be a Mariner.

[00:04:42] Would a hike be worse in January or August?

[00:04:45] I can tell you've never hiked anything serious in your life.

[00:04:49] Just off of that question.

[00:04:50] Not until Mailbox Peak when I'm inevitably doing it.

[00:04:55] Until?

[00:04:56] Until.

[00:04:57] So let's walk you through what a hike's like this time of year, for example.

[00:05:03] Especially if you want to go up a mountain.

[00:05:05] So first off, it's cold.

[00:05:08] And I know you get pretty cold there, dog.

[00:05:11] Dog.

[00:05:12] So I think you'd be...

[00:05:15] Watch on YouTube, by the way, if you want to see me imitate Lyle going up the mountain here.

[00:05:19] So you'd be like, oh, dog, I don't know if I can do this at the trailhead.

[00:05:26] Right?

[00:05:27] So we're at the trailhead.

[00:05:27] It's probably raining at this point.

[00:05:31] If it's not snowing, by the way.

[00:05:33] So then you start hiking.

[00:05:35] And once you reach the snow level, then you've got to start hiking through snow.

[00:05:43] I'm getting the sense...

[00:05:44] All the way to the top.

[00:05:45] So I'm getting the sense for an actual hike, it would be better in the summer despite the heat.

[00:05:50] However, however, that would mean you're only guaranteed two months of Kyle Tucker as opposed to eight years.

[00:05:56] Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.

[00:05:57] Guaranteed.

[00:05:58] Oh, guaranteed, yeah.

[00:06:00] Yeah, but that's guaranteed more than courting him in free agency.

[00:06:05] All right, how about this?

[00:06:06] It's only guaranteed if you sign him.

[00:06:10] You know what?

[00:06:10] I was about to say if the Mariners...

[00:06:12] Sorry, when the Mariners sign him in free agency next winter, that I could just save the hike till June.

[00:06:18] But then I wouldn't be holding up my end of the bargain.

[00:06:20] I would have to do it.

[00:06:20] Yes, I would have to do it in the winter in January after he signs to pay my dues, hold up my end.

[00:06:27] So unfortunately, but actually fortunately, I may be hiking through the snow.

[00:06:31] I'm really glad you asked that question.

[00:06:33] I really think there are going to be people in the comments being like, good lord, dude.

[00:06:36] No, yeah, in case this wasn't made clear all the way back when we started talking about this, I hope I can make it clear as day.

[00:06:44] Not only do I never, ever hike, I despise hiking.

[00:06:48] Why do you think I pick this as a quote-unquote repayment to the baseball gods if this dude ends up in Seattle?

[00:06:54] Because I want to show the level I will go to to have this dude wear teal and play for the Mariners.

[00:07:00] I don't want to hike.

[00:07:01] Hiking sucks.

[00:07:02] But I'll do it for Kyle Tucker.

[00:07:05] Winter it is.

[00:07:07] TJ likes the hike.

[00:07:09] We get some snowshoes.

[00:07:12] At least in your defense, the bears are hibernating in the winter.

[00:07:16] So you don't have to deal with any of them.

[00:07:18] There's no bears on Mailbox Peak.

[00:07:21] I don't know.

[00:07:23] I don't know.

[00:07:24] That's a good question.

[00:07:26] You look it up?

[00:07:29] I have no idea.

[00:07:30] But there might be.

[00:07:33] Around it.

[00:07:34] You probably shouldn't have even put that in my head.

[00:07:36] The good news is there's no sharks.

[00:07:39] My real biggest fear.

[00:07:41] No.

[00:07:42] Last we checked.

[00:07:43] Sea levels are rising well.

[00:07:47] He's a mariner.

[00:07:48] That's all I can say.

[00:07:49] He is a mariner.

[00:07:50] Have you checked in with him?

[00:07:51] Did you shoot him a DM at all?

[00:07:53] See what his mindset's like?

[00:07:56] Funny enough, yes.

[00:07:57] If you want me to read it.

[00:07:58] Hey, K-Tuck.

[00:07:59] Congrats on the new landing spot.

[00:08:01] I know you'll only be there a couple months.

[00:08:03] Might as well just do a month-to-month rental somewhere in Wrigleyville

[00:08:06] so you don't have to put a down payment on a house

[00:08:09] for when you inevitably get traded to the Pacific Northwest

[00:08:11] and end up in Seattle.

[00:08:13] Thanks.

[00:08:13] Go M's.

[00:08:14] Can't wait to see you rocking the teal here by summertime.

[00:08:16] He didn't respond.

[00:08:18] I am going to assume he doesn't want anything to leak out,

[00:08:20] which I understand.

[00:08:21] I understand that Kyle Tucker doesn't want things to leak out.

[00:08:24] I'm sure his agent doesn't want things to leak out,

[00:08:25] but he knows.

[00:08:27] By him not responding, that is a response.

[00:08:31] I have a second most negative thing about this trade

[00:08:33] besides the fact of Kyle Tucker not being a mariner.

[00:08:37] Do you know what it is?

[00:08:38] Is it Isak Paredes hitting in the Crawford boxes?

[00:08:41] I think I'm going to have a new most hated Astro

[00:08:44] whose name is not Marwin Gonzalez.

[00:08:47] Marwin Gonzalez annoyed the absolute shit out of me.

[00:08:50] Dude was not a good baseball player,

[00:08:53] but he would poke these little rinky-dink home runs

[00:08:58] into the Crawford boxes.

[00:09:01] Isak Paredes is going to make that look like child's play.

[00:09:05] This dude might hit 40 home runs as a Houston Astro,

[00:09:09] and 35 of them will be in the Crawford boxes.

[00:09:13] All right, but hear me out.

[00:09:15] He was not good as a Cub when he was there.

[00:09:19] Great.

[00:09:19] He's going to the Astros.

[00:09:20] He's going to be good.

[00:09:24] I'm trying to spin why Isak Paredes won't hit

[00:09:27] in an indoor warm environment

[00:09:29] with a joke of a left field porch,

[00:09:32] but it's hard to give myself a bunch of reasons.

[00:09:34] I mean, you've seen the hit chart there, pal.

[00:09:37] I know.

[00:09:38] I mean, his home run.

[00:09:38] If you, I task everyone listening,

[00:09:41] if they haven't seen it yet,

[00:09:42] look it up on Twitter,

[00:09:44] go to Baseball Savant Check for yourself.

[00:09:45] Like, if you overlay his hit chart with,

[00:09:50] what, is it still Minute Maid Park?

[00:09:52] Did they change it?

[00:09:53] They changed the name,

[00:09:53] but I'm not calling it the new name.

[00:09:55] Whatever the hell they call it now.

[00:09:56] I think it's some oil company.

[00:09:57] Shocker.

[00:09:59] If you take all of his home runs

[00:10:01] and you overlay Minute Maid Park,

[00:10:03] like the Crawford box is perfectly fit.

[00:10:06] Those home runs.

[00:10:07] Almost every single one of them.

[00:10:11] Lyle, it makes me a little nervous here, pal.

[00:10:14] This is why he thrived in Tampa.

[00:10:17] Isak Paredes wasn't hitting tape measure shots.

[00:10:20] All his home runs were out to that short porch

[00:10:22] in left field in Tampa

[00:10:24] that would be wall scrapers over the 315 sign.

[00:10:27] And then as soon as he got traded to Chicago,

[00:10:29] a real hitting environment,

[00:10:30] he wasn't hitting.

[00:10:32] Now, maybe, just maybe,

[00:10:36] some of those baseballs he'll hit

[00:10:38] will start to take a detour

[00:10:39] just a little bit to the right of the Crawford boxes

[00:10:41] and they'll fall short.

[00:10:43] I wouldn't hold out hope.

[00:10:45] He's now going to be more inclined than ever

[00:10:47] to hit the foul pole on every homer.

[00:10:50] Yeah.

[00:10:51] But again, not good with the Cubs last year.

[00:10:53] So maybe there's a chance that carries over.

[00:10:55] That's what I'm going to roll with.

[00:10:56] Not good for two months.

[00:10:59] Yeah.

[00:11:00] His likelihood of being good with the Astros is high.

[00:11:05] It's going to be astronomically high.

[00:11:07] However...

[00:11:07] He's going to hit 40 bombs

[00:11:10] and the Mariners are going to roll out

[00:11:11] whatever they roll out at third base

[00:11:13] and Paredes is going to look like,

[00:11:15] you know, a Hall of Famer.

[00:11:16] All right.

[00:11:17] But the Astros did objectively get worse

[00:11:19] after this trade.

[00:11:20] A hundred percent.

[00:11:22] Objective hat on here.

[00:11:23] I have absolutely no idea

[00:11:25] why they traded Kyle Tucker right now

[00:11:27] instead of trading him at the deadline.

[00:11:28] They probably could have got

[00:11:29] a very similar package for him back

[00:11:31] at the trade deadline

[00:11:32] and would have kept a great baseball player.

[00:11:35] Oh, wow.

[00:11:35] Is there incentive now

[00:11:36] for the Mariners to push more?

[00:11:38] Push all their chips in more

[00:11:40] and go and win?

[00:11:42] You really think?

[00:11:43] Astros got worse.

[00:11:45] Rangers are mediocre.

[00:11:46] Angels and A's are disasters.

[00:11:48] And yet here we are.

[00:11:49] The Mariners have not made a move yet.

[00:11:52] No, TJ.

[00:11:53] It doesn't make sense for them to do that

[00:11:55] because sing it with me.

[00:11:56] Let's do it in harmony.

[00:11:57] Not a smart strategy.

[00:12:00] Woo!

[00:12:02] Do you want to do a clap in there too?

[00:12:05] Not a smart strategy.

[00:12:08] Yeah.

[00:12:08] We nailed that.

[00:12:09] Hey, we got 12 minutes into this podcast

[00:12:11] without saying that.

[00:12:12] Let's give ourselves a pat on the back for that.

[00:12:13] Thank you.

[00:12:14] Yeah.

[00:12:14] So, yeah.

[00:12:16] I will say, look,

[00:12:18] Paredes is not a good defender.

[00:12:20] So, he may hit some home runs.

[00:12:22] He is a, not just not a good defender,

[00:12:23] in fact, he is a bad defender.

[00:12:25] So, we'll see what his value is at third base.

[00:12:28] It's going to be helped by the fact

[00:12:29] he's going to hit with the Crawford boxes,

[00:12:30] but there's that.

[00:12:32] You're not going to have Kyle Tucker anymore.

[00:12:34] Bregman's gone.

[00:12:35] Like, this team's,

[00:12:36] and we're talking about a team that won

[00:12:39] how many games last year?

[00:12:41] 90?

[00:12:44] Sounds right.

[00:12:45] And then they got,

[00:12:46] and then they lost in two games to the Tigers.

[00:12:48] This team's taken a significant step back

[00:12:51] here in 2025.

[00:12:52] Now, could they,

[00:12:53] could they win the game?

[00:12:54] They get rid of Framber too.

[00:12:55] Which may also happen.

[00:12:58] Is McCullers alive?

[00:12:59] Is he going to pitch in 2025?

[00:13:01] Who knows?

[00:13:02] I don't know, man.

[00:13:03] I don't think the Astros

[00:13:05] are set up for a ton of success.

[00:13:07] I've got hot,

[00:13:08] I've had a hot take for a while.

[00:13:09] I don't think Dana Brown's that great a GM.

[00:13:12] I know the Astros have had all this success,

[00:13:13] but look at from the time James Click left

[00:13:16] to when Dana Brown took over.

[00:13:18] A lot of the moves he's made

[00:13:20] are not,

[00:13:22] like,

[00:13:22] they don't win people over,

[00:13:24] I'll tell you that.

[00:13:25] Well, they underwent a different philosophy,

[00:13:27] Al,

[00:13:27] and they stopped using

[00:13:30] numbers to make decisions,

[00:13:31] and

[00:13:32] shocking.

[00:13:33] What happens when you do that?

[00:13:34] Uh-oh.

[00:13:35] Can you think of anybody else

[00:13:36] that's doing that?

[00:13:37] Aren't the Mariners doing that exact same thing

[00:13:39] with their hitting?

[00:13:41] Uh,

[00:13:42] well,

[00:13:43] not for their player evaluation.

[00:13:44] I'm thinking,

[00:13:45] they're using that to measure,

[00:13:47] to teach hitting on their roster,

[00:13:50] not acquire players.

[00:13:51] Hmm,

[00:13:51] fair,

[00:13:51] fair,

[00:13:52] fair.

[00:13:52] That's right.

[00:13:53] That's true.

[00:13:53] I think the,

[00:13:54] there's a little bit of a difference

[00:13:56] between coaching

[00:13:58] and player acquisition.

[00:14:00] Yeah.

[00:14:00] Well,

[00:14:01] people,

[00:14:02] Jeff Bagwell said this is the way.

[00:14:04] So clearly,

[00:14:05] this is the way.

[00:14:06] Newsflash,

[00:14:07] you,

[00:14:08] just like all of us,

[00:14:10] may actually be a bigger ball knower

[00:14:11] than a Hall of Famer.

[00:14:12] Was somebody a great player?

[00:14:14] Yes.

[00:14:14] Does that mean they know ball?

[00:14:16] Nope.

[00:14:17] It's as simple as this,

[00:14:19] guys.

[00:14:19] Do you want all the information possible

[00:14:22] to make decisions?

[00:14:23] That's it.

[00:14:24] Yeah.

[00:14:24] You don't have to use it all,

[00:14:26] but

[00:14:27] usually having more information on guys

[00:14:29] leads you to make better decisions,

[00:14:31] and teams that purposely don't use them

[00:14:32] are usually the worst teams in baseball.

[00:14:36] The AL West now,

[00:14:37] Lyle,

[00:14:38] as a,

[00:14:38] in totality,

[00:14:39] is,

[00:14:40] is there's no threat in the West,

[00:14:43] which I think leads you to two lines of thought.

[00:14:45] The one I just said,

[00:14:46] where it's like,

[00:14:47] you look at everything else around you

[00:14:48] in the Mariners perspective

[00:14:49] and you say,

[00:14:50] okay,

[00:14:51] this should be your sign.

[00:14:53] There's no one else in front of you,

[00:14:55] just like there's not really anyone else

[00:14:57] in the American League

[00:14:57] that's this massive threat.

[00:14:59] Go for it.

[00:15:01] This is it.

[00:15:01] This,

[00:15:02] this is the window.

[00:15:04] Or,

[00:15:04] this is what they'll do.

[00:15:06] They're gonna look around

[00:15:07] at the rest of the teams in the AL West

[00:15:09] and they're gonna say,

[00:15:10] wow, man,

[00:15:10] they are pretty mediocre.

[00:15:11] You know,

[00:15:12] our roster right now

[00:15:13] probably gets it done.

[00:15:14] Why would we need to do anything else?

[00:15:15] We're not chasing anybody.

[00:15:17] Now,

[00:15:18] which direction

[00:15:19] are they gonna choose?

[00:15:21] You know,

[00:15:22] it's,

[00:15:23] I'm really tossing and turning here

[00:15:25] thinking about it.

[00:15:26] It's,

[00:15:26] it's a tough,

[00:15:27] a tough decision.

[00:15:28] I may have to sleep on it.

[00:15:29] I may have to go on an Aaron Rodgers

[00:15:31] darkness retreat

[00:15:32] to definitively confirm

[00:15:35] which route I think

[00:15:36] the Seattle Mariners baseball club

[00:15:37] will take

[00:15:38] because you've presented me

[00:15:40] an impossible question here.

[00:15:41] I don't know which way

[00:15:42] they're gonna go with those two.

[00:15:43] It is,

[00:15:43] it is tough to decipher,

[00:15:45] Teej,

[00:15:45] I gotta tell you.

[00:15:46] Speaking of which,

[00:15:47] if they don't make moves

[00:15:48] the rest of the offseason,

[00:15:49] can we do a podcast

[00:15:50] watch along of his Netflix doc?

[00:15:52] Salk?

[00:15:53] Yes.

[00:15:54] Yeah,

[00:15:54] we need to.

[00:15:56] I love,

[00:15:57] little side note,

[00:15:58] I mean,

[00:15:59] I think you and I both think

[00:16:01] Aaron Rodgers is a headache,

[00:16:02] a nightmare to listen to

[00:16:03] and a million other things,

[00:16:04] but I do love being on the,

[00:16:06] on Brock and Salk

[00:16:07] and listening to Salk talk about it

[00:16:08] because Salk really hates him.

[00:16:10] In fact,

[00:16:10] like,

[00:16:11] just one quick little example.

[00:16:13] It was a couple weeks ago.

[00:16:14] It was something Rodgers said

[00:16:16] and Salk throws to some cut

[00:16:17] and he's like,

[00:16:18] well,

[00:16:18] here's made up head coach

[00:16:19] Jeff Ulbrich on the matter.

[00:16:24] because for those who don't,

[00:16:26] for those who don't pick up the joke,

[00:16:27] Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback,

[00:16:28] the head coach and the GM

[00:16:30] and damn near the owner

[00:16:31] of the New York Jets.

[00:16:36] Anyway,

[00:16:37] which route will the Mariners go?

[00:16:39] Yes,

[00:16:39] they are going to choose to

[00:16:41] essentially stand pat,

[00:16:43] try to fill those infield spots marginally.

[00:16:45] And well,

[00:16:46] again,

[00:16:47] they could get creative

[00:16:47] and we'll talk about

[00:16:48] some of the creativity.

[00:16:49] They could decide to dive

[00:16:50] into later in the show,

[00:16:52] but more likely than not,

[00:16:53] it's,

[00:16:54] it's going to be

[00:16:56] around the margins

[00:16:57] and they're going to try

[00:16:58] to run it back

[00:16:58] with this roster

[00:16:59] and say,

[00:16:59] well,

[00:16:59] we can just win the AL West,

[00:17:00] which any other team

[00:17:02] with an ownership

[00:17:03] that was really,

[00:17:05] really aggressive

[00:17:05] or not even aggressive

[00:17:06] about winning

[00:17:06] really had an urge to win.

[00:17:08] You go out,

[00:17:09] get signed Christian Walker,

[00:17:10] you trade for Nico Horner.

[00:17:12] You'd,

[00:17:14] I don't know,

[00:17:14] you'd figure out something

[00:17:15] at third base.

[00:17:15] You could overpay

[00:17:16] for Alex Bregman

[00:17:17] for all I care,

[00:17:19] but this is your window.

[00:17:20] You've got the rotation.

[00:17:21] The division is weak.

[00:17:23] Wasn't this the entire plan

[00:17:25] when they said

[00:17:26] they were going to rebuild?

[00:17:27] Remember when they rebuilt

[00:17:28] and they were looking

[00:17:28] at the shape of the AL West

[00:17:30] and they said,

[00:17:30] okay,

[00:17:30] this is when we project

[00:17:32] Houston to fall off.

[00:17:33] They've outlasted that

[00:17:34] a little bit,

[00:17:34] but now we're starting

[00:17:35] to finally see it.

[00:17:36] This is when we project

[00:17:37] Houston to fall off.

[00:17:38] They didn't expect the Rangers,

[00:17:40] but the Rangers were kind

[00:17:41] of a one-year wonder

[00:17:41] all of a sudden.

[00:17:42] The Angels and A's

[00:17:43] are not there.

[00:17:44] This is it.

[00:17:45] They also said

[00:17:47] during that time

[00:17:47] of the rebuild

[00:17:48] when the time is right,

[00:17:49] we're going to go spend

[00:17:49] a bunch and invest

[00:17:51] all the resources

[00:17:51] possible in this roster.

[00:17:52] Now,

[00:17:53] what happened to that?

[00:17:54] Now,

[00:17:55] am I delusional

[00:17:56] in remembering them

[00:17:56] saying that or what?

[00:17:59] Well,

[00:17:59] just so I have it right,

[00:18:01] you're telling me

[00:18:01] that the Seattle Mariners

[00:18:03] weren't 100% truthful

[00:18:04] about something?

[00:18:05] Do I have that right?

[00:18:06] Hmm.

[00:18:07] Seems plausible.

[00:18:09] Not likely,

[00:18:10] but plausible.

[00:18:11] Hmm.

[00:18:11] Hmm.

[00:18:11] Yeah.

[00:18:12] Interesting.

[00:18:13] Well,

[00:18:13] checks out.

[00:18:16] If the Mariners

[00:18:17] were any team

[00:18:19] with a really,

[00:18:21] really passionate

[00:18:22] ownership

[00:18:23] that really wanted to win,

[00:18:25] you would see them

[00:18:25] getting real aggressive

[00:18:27] right now

[00:18:28] to put together

[00:18:30] a fierce,

[00:18:31] ferocious ball club.

[00:18:32] Not just a rotation,

[00:18:34] full ball club.

[00:18:35] But,

[00:18:36] so far they have yet

[00:18:37] to do that.

[00:18:38] Look,

[00:18:39] I think if

[00:18:41] if the opposite

[00:18:42] of what happens

[00:18:43] happened to their roster

[00:18:44] last year

[00:18:46] happens with this

[00:18:47] current roster

[00:18:47] this year,

[00:18:49] I think they win the West.

[00:18:51] But,

[00:18:52] banking on that

[00:18:53] to happen

[00:18:53] is just

[00:18:55] unrealistic.

[00:18:56] That was a little bit

[00:18:57] of a word salad.

[00:18:57] Explain for me

[00:18:58] if I didn't pick it up.

[00:19:00] If you caught on a theme

[00:19:01] with 2024

[00:19:02] Seattle Mariners,

[00:19:03] especially on the

[00:19:04] hitting side,

[00:19:05] offensively,

[00:19:06] was about as bad

[00:19:06] as possible.

[00:19:07] I mean,

[00:19:08] Julio getting off

[00:19:09] that just

[00:19:10] mind-boggling

[00:19:11] slow start.

[00:19:12] Mitch Garver

[00:19:14] cratering

[00:19:14] for the

[00:19:15] really the first

[00:19:16] time in his career

[00:19:17] where he really

[00:19:17] bottomed out.

[00:19:19] Mitch Hanager

[00:19:19] comes back

[00:19:20] and he has

[00:19:21] no juice.

[00:19:23] Cal Raleigh

[00:19:23] struggles at the

[00:19:24] beginning of the season.

[00:19:25] Overall has

[00:19:25] a good year though.

[00:19:27] Randy

[00:19:27] very up and down,

[00:19:29] up and down

[00:19:30] the roster.

[00:19:30] Josh Rojas

[00:19:31] after his

[00:19:32] six-week

[00:19:33] hot start

[00:19:34] was one of the

[00:19:35] worst hitters

[00:19:35] in baseball.

[00:19:36] Jorge Polanco

[00:19:37] had the worst

[00:19:38] year of his career.

[00:19:39] All this,

[00:19:39] your first

[00:19:40] baseman tie,

[00:19:40] France gets

[00:19:41] DFA and you

[00:19:41] have to patchwork

[00:19:42] it through.

[00:19:43] Everyone,

[00:19:44] mostly across

[00:19:45] the board,

[00:19:45] had a career

[00:19:47] worst season

[00:19:47] all at once,

[00:19:49] which is a big

[00:19:50] reason why Lyle

[00:19:50] and I were so

[00:19:51] frustrated.

[00:19:52] I would imagine

[00:19:53] Jerry would be

[00:19:54] frustrated too.

[00:19:55] You look at the

[00:19:55] roster and you're

[00:19:56] like,

[00:19:56] this roster should

[00:19:57] be good enough,

[00:19:57] but you can't

[00:19:58] predict everyone

[00:19:59] having a career

[00:20:00] worst year at

[00:20:01] the exact same

[00:20:01] time.

[00:20:02] Now,

[00:20:02] that probably

[00:20:03] says something

[00:20:03] about your

[00:20:04] coaching staff.

[00:20:04] That says

[00:20:05] something about

[00:20:05] the message

[00:20:06] you're sending.

[00:20:06] It sends a

[00:20:07] message about

[00:20:08] the mix

[00:20:08] and the clubhouse,

[00:20:09] but regardless,

[00:20:10] that's not really

[00:20:11] something you can

[00:20:11] project before the

[00:20:12] season.

[00:20:13] So what if the

[00:20:14] opposite of that

[00:20:15] happened in 2025?

[00:20:17] They win the

[00:20:17] West,

[00:20:19] correct?

[00:20:19] If everybody

[00:20:20] hits,

[00:20:21] yeah.

[00:20:21] Yeah.

[00:20:22] No more

[00:20:23] additions.

[00:20:23] They'll win the

[00:20:24] West because the

[00:20:25] rest of this

[00:20:25] Western division

[00:20:27] is not very

[00:20:28] good.

[00:20:28] And the

[00:20:29] pitching staff

[00:20:29] and this

[00:20:30] anticipates the

[00:20:30] pitching staff

[00:20:31] staying intact

[00:20:31] and the

[00:20:32] pitching alone

[00:20:33] with average

[00:20:35] hitting,

[00:20:36] average run

[00:20:36] scoring,

[00:20:37] not ballpark

[00:20:38] adjusted run

[00:20:38] scoring,

[00:20:39] keyword here,

[00:20:40] average run

[00:20:40] scoring across

[00:20:41] the league.

[00:20:42] And you

[00:20:43] probably win

[00:20:44] the West

[00:20:44] because everyone

[00:20:45] else is 500

[00:20:46] at best.

[00:20:48] Yeah.

[00:20:49] That being said,

[00:20:50] they would have

[00:20:51] won the West

[00:20:52] last year doing

[00:20:52] that or again,

[00:20:54] to your point

[00:20:55] in a hypothetical

[00:20:56] 2025 would win

[00:20:57] the West,

[00:20:58] but they

[00:20:58] probably do it

[00:20:59] with a similar

[00:21:00] number of wins

[00:21:00] to the Astros,

[00:21:01] 90-91.

[00:21:03] Again,

[00:21:04] when your division

[00:21:04] is this week,

[00:21:06] why don't you

[00:21:07] form a 96-win team

[00:21:09] instead of on the

[00:21:10] margins somewhere

[00:21:11] from 88 to 90?

[00:21:13] Don't even need

[00:21:13] 96,

[00:21:14] how about 93?

[00:21:16] How about 93?

[00:21:18] Fine.

[00:21:18] So that would

[00:21:19] involve signing

[00:21:20] Christian Walker

[00:21:20] and trading for

[00:21:21] one more infielder.

[00:21:22] Perfect.

[00:21:23] That sounds great.

[00:21:24] Oh, and sorry,

[00:21:25] key caveat there,

[00:21:26] you don't get to

[00:21:27] do that by

[00:21:28] subtracting somebody

[00:21:28] from your rotation.

[00:21:30] Right.

[00:21:31] That's right.

[00:21:33] The opportunity

[00:21:34] seems to be there

[00:21:34] and the West

[00:21:35] seems to be

[00:21:37] paving the way

[00:21:38] for you

[00:21:38] if it's there

[00:21:39] and you want it.

[00:21:40] And I will say

[00:21:41] there will be some

[00:21:42] moves the Mariners

[00:21:43] make this offseason.

[00:21:44] I don't know

[00:21:45] if everyone's

[00:21:45] going to like the

[00:21:45] moves,

[00:21:46] but it sounds

[00:21:47] like they are

[00:21:47] going to make

[00:21:48] moves.

[00:21:49] You know Jerry

[00:21:49] DiPoto can't

[00:21:49] help himself.

[00:21:50] It's just kind

[00:21:51] of crazy we've

[00:21:52] gotten to this point

[00:21:52] of the offseason

[00:21:53] and there have

[00:21:54] been no

[00:21:54] notable Mariners

[00:21:55] moves.

[00:21:56] None at all.

[00:21:57] So it's very

[00:21:58] much against

[00:21:59] what Jerry

[00:22:00] has done.

[00:22:00] And I don't

[00:22:01] think at this

[00:22:01] point in Jerry's

[00:22:02] tenure he would

[00:22:03] just stop.

[00:22:05] I think

[00:22:05] most of what

[00:22:08] has held

[00:22:09] them up

[00:22:09] is budget,

[00:22:11] which again

[00:22:12] is just asinine

[00:22:13] and stupid,

[00:22:14] but that's

[00:22:15] what it is.

[00:22:18] And I'd say

[00:22:19] some of the

[00:22:19] marginal trades

[00:22:20] just don't really

[00:22:20] make as much

[00:22:21] sense right now.

[00:22:21] Justin Hollander

[00:22:22] said as much

[00:22:23] this past

[00:22:23] weekend when

[00:22:24] he was on

[00:22:24] the radio.

[00:22:25] So just

[00:22:27] hopefully someday.

[00:22:29] Yeah,

[00:22:30] they're probably

[00:22:30] waiting to make

[00:22:31] an impact move.

[00:22:32] They're not

[00:22:32] just trying to,

[00:22:33] like you said,

[00:22:34] make the small

[00:22:35] moves.

[00:22:36] And the impact,

[00:22:37] really the impact

[00:22:38] move seems as if

[00:22:39] they have enough

[00:22:39] money for said

[00:22:40] impact move.

[00:22:41] It's like,

[00:22:42] what were the

[00:22:43] words Hollander

[00:22:44] uses when he

[00:22:44] says when the

[00:22:45] situation is right?

[00:22:46] Right.

[00:22:47] That's what he

[00:22:47] said?

[00:22:48] Right.

[00:22:48] So the situation

[00:22:49] is right.

[00:22:49] sounds like we

[00:22:51] trade Castillo,

[00:22:52] then we can sign

[00:22:53] who we want.

[00:22:54] That's what that

[00:22:54] sounds like.

[00:22:55] Where they say,

[00:22:57] they're like,

[00:22:58] okay,

[00:22:58] we need to,

[00:22:59] if we're trading

[00:22:59] Castillo,

[00:23:00] we need to get

[00:23:00] better.

[00:23:01] Like,

[00:23:02] we net at the

[00:23:03] end need to be

[00:23:03] better.

[00:23:05] So,

[00:23:05] yeah.

[00:23:06] What?

[00:23:07] Or trade

[00:23:07] Hanager,

[00:23:08] but that's

[00:23:08] less likely.

[00:23:10] They wanted to,

[00:23:11] man.

[00:23:11] Just trade

[00:23:12] prospects.

[00:23:13] Not everyone,

[00:23:13] listen,

[00:23:14] not everyone is

[00:23:14] seeking prospects.

[00:23:15] When he gets

[00:23:16] prospects for

[00:23:16] essentially free,

[00:23:17] just salary,

[00:23:20] got the number

[00:23:21] three pick.

[00:23:22] Yeah.

[00:23:23] Now,

[00:23:24] again,

[00:23:24] the optics behind

[00:23:25] that would still

[00:23:25] be really bad

[00:23:26] from the Mariners

[00:23:27] end.

[00:23:27] It would just

[00:23:27] make up for it

[00:23:28] a little bit if

[00:23:29] you turn around

[00:23:29] and make some

[00:23:30] real moves.

[00:23:31] It's really bad,

[00:23:32] but at least

[00:23:33] there's one thing

[00:23:34] you have a

[00:23:34] surplus of is

[00:23:35] prospects.

[00:23:36] Not everyone in

[00:23:37] your money league

[00:23:37] system has a

[00:23:38] spot on this

[00:23:38] big league roster.

[00:23:39] So trade them.

[00:23:41] Right.

[00:23:42] Yeah.

[00:23:43] All right.

[00:23:43] We're going to get

[00:23:44] into a couple

[00:23:45] more topics.

[00:23:47] We've got an

[00:23:48] ad read to do,

[00:23:48] so let's take a

[00:23:49] pause and do that.

[00:23:50] We're going to

[00:23:50] talk to you about,

[00:23:51] of course,

[00:23:51] our friends over

[00:23:52] at Pagatch's Pub

[00:23:53] 85.

[00:23:53] That's over in

[00:23:54] Kirkland.

[00:23:54] You guys know

[00:23:55] it's an awesome

[00:23:56] spot to go watch

[00:23:56] some games.

[00:23:57] You can hang out

[00:23:57] with your friends.

[00:23:58] You can have

[00:23:58] some awesome food.

[00:23:59] You can go play

[00:24:00] pool.

[00:24:00] You can go play

[00:24:01] darts.

[00:24:01] And if you want

[00:24:03] great happy hour

[00:24:04] specials,

[00:24:05] go there and look

[00:24:06] no further because

[00:24:07] happy hours are

[00:24:08] Monday through

[00:24:08] Friday from 2 to

[00:24:10] 6 p.m.

[00:24:11] and drinks are

[00:24:11] three and four

[00:24:12] dollars,

[00:24:13] guys.

[00:24:13] Yeah,

[00:24:13] that's it.

[00:24:14] Monday through

[00:24:14] Friday happy

[00:24:15] hours,

[00:24:15] they're long and

[00:24:16] you get some

[00:24:16] awesome,

[00:24:17] awesome drink

[00:24:18] specials.

[00:24:18] If you want to

[00:24:19] go watch the

[00:24:19] NFL,

[00:24:20] if you want to

[00:24:20] go watch the

[00:24:21] college football

[00:24:21] playoff,

[00:24:22] if you want to

[00:24:22] go watch

[00:24:23] hockey,

[00:24:24] whatever you

[00:24:24] want.

[00:24:25] There's more

[00:24:25] than 20 TVs

[00:24:26] in the place.

[00:24:26] So head over

[00:24:27] there for an

[00:24:28] awesome time with

[00:24:28] your friends over

[00:24:29] at Pagatch's Pub

[00:24:30] 85 in Kirkland.

[00:24:32] One little quick

[00:24:34] announcement too

[00:24:34] before we keep

[00:24:35] moving on.

[00:24:36] Teej,

[00:24:37] we're hitting the

[00:24:37] airwaves again on

[00:24:38] Friday.

[00:24:38] Let's go!

[00:24:40] Woo!

[00:24:41] At least we don't

[00:24:42] have to talk about

[00:24:43] Sam Howell for

[00:24:44] next weekend.

[00:24:45] Thank God.

[00:24:46] So,

[00:24:48] by hitting the

[00:24:49] airwaves,

[00:24:50] we're filling in

[00:24:51] for Brock and

[00:24:51] Salk again on

[00:24:52] Friday.

[00:24:52] It'll be the

[00:24:53] first time we've

[00:24:53] done it since

[00:24:54] Labor Day weekend?

[00:24:56] Yeah.

[00:24:56] Labor Day,

[00:24:57] I guess.

[00:24:59] And there'll be

[00:25:00] plenty to talk

[00:25:01] about.

[00:25:01] Hopefully the

[00:25:01] Mariners give us

[00:25:02] some content in

[00:25:03] the next few days

[00:25:04] to talk about on

[00:25:05] those airwaves.

[00:25:05] But,

[00:25:07] if you're listening

[00:25:07] on Friday,

[00:25:08] if you happen to

[00:25:08] be on your car,

[00:25:09] if you happen to

[00:25:09] be at home,

[00:25:10] if you happen to

[00:25:10] be at the gym,

[00:25:11] if you happen to

[00:25:11] be wherever,

[00:25:12] tune in.

[00:25:13] 6 to 10 a.m.

[00:25:14] 710.

[00:25:15] Seattle Sports.

[00:25:16] That is where

[00:25:16] TJ and I will be.

[00:25:17] We'll be hosting the

[00:25:18] show.

[00:25:18] So,

[00:25:19] come follow along

[00:25:20] with us.

[00:25:20] If you don't get up

[00:25:21] early enough or

[00:25:21] aren't around to

[00:25:22] listen in time,

[00:25:23] obviously you can

[00:25:23] go listen on the

[00:25:24] podcast platforms.

[00:25:25] But,

[00:25:25] again,

[00:25:26] this will be

[00:25:27] time number four

[00:25:28] doing this thing.

[00:25:29] And it's been

[00:25:30] really fun each time

[00:25:31] and we're looking

[00:25:31] forward to it again.

[00:25:32] So,

[00:25:32] we really can't wait.

[00:25:34] Again,

[00:25:34] we've said it before,

[00:25:35] we don't take

[00:25:36] getting the chance

[00:25:37] to do this lightly

[00:25:37] or for granted

[00:25:38] and we're fired up

[00:25:39] about it.

[00:25:40] And just to note,

[00:25:42] black pastimes won't

[00:25:43] affect the podcast

[00:25:44] schedule.

[00:25:44] There will still be

[00:25:45] a Friday morning

[00:25:46] podcast as well.

[00:25:47] It'll be a mailbag

[00:25:48] though.

[00:25:49] Yes,

[00:25:49] there will.

[00:25:50] But,

[00:25:50] yes,

[00:25:51] looking forward to it.

[00:25:52] Are we going to

[00:25:53] rank something?

[00:25:54] Should we rank

[00:25:56] Christmas foods?

[00:25:57] Even though you

[00:25:58] don't celebrate

[00:25:58] Christmas.

[00:25:59] Not really.

[00:26:00] Not really.

[00:26:01] But,

[00:26:02] or we could rank

[00:26:03] something Mariners.

[00:26:04] I'm sure we couldn't

[00:26:05] get creative with that

[00:26:06] at all.

[00:26:10] Anyway,

[00:26:11] yeah,

[00:26:12] we'll figure it out

[00:26:13] and have it all

[00:26:14] planned for Friday's

[00:26:15] show.

[00:26:15] But,

[00:26:16] yes,

[00:26:17] there will still

[00:26:17] be a Friday episode.

[00:26:18] It's going to be

[00:26:18] time to answer some

[00:26:19] of your questions

[00:26:20] this week on Friday.

[00:26:21] So,

[00:26:21] yes,

[00:26:21] we're going to do

[00:26:21] a mailbag.

[00:26:22] Stay on the lookout

[00:26:22] for that to send

[00:26:24] your questions in

[00:26:25] and you can send us

[00:26:26] whatever you want

[00:26:26] to send us because

[00:26:27] we know you guys

[00:26:27] have questions

[00:26:28] and we're going

[00:26:28] to answer them.

[00:26:30] Let's get to this

[00:26:32] Mets rumor.

[00:26:34] Now,

[00:26:34] when I first saw

[00:26:35] this this week,

[00:26:36] I had a good chuckle.

[00:26:38] We did a social

[00:26:38] post about it.

[00:26:39] So,

[00:26:40] if you want the

[00:26:40] more condensed

[00:26:41] version of this,

[00:26:42] you can go check

[00:26:43] out Lyle screaming

[00:26:44] at his phone

[00:26:44] for how stupid

[00:26:45] some of these

[00:26:46] ideas coming out

[00:26:47] of Queens were.

[00:26:48] But,

[00:26:48] let's shed some

[00:26:49] background.

[00:26:49] There was some

[00:26:49] reporting over

[00:26:50] the weekend

[00:26:51] that was talking

[00:26:52] about,

[00:26:53] I think this was

[00:26:53] Rosenthal's report

[00:26:54] where he was talking

[00:26:55] about the Luis

[00:26:56] Castillo sweepstakes

[00:26:57] and noted there

[00:26:58] are four teams

[00:26:59] interested in Luis

[00:27:00] Castillo that have

[00:27:01] at least to Ken's

[00:27:02] knowledge,

[00:27:03] been talking

[00:27:03] with the Mariners

[00:27:04] about trading

[00:27:05] for Luis Castillo.

[00:27:06] We've talked

[00:27:07] about three of

[00:27:08] them already.

[00:27:08] We've talked

[00:27:09] about the Orioles.

[00:27:10] We've talked

[00:27:10] about the Red Sox.

[00:27:11] We've talked

[00:27:12] about the Cubs.

[00:27:13] We haven't talked

[00:27:14] about the Mets.

[00:27:16] So,

[00:27:16] I kind of raised

[00:27:17] an eyebrow

[00:27:17] when I saw that.

[00:27:19] But,

[00:27:19] diving into it

[00:27:20] a little bit more,

[00:27:21] there's a reason

[00:27:22] why we haven't

[00:27:22] really talked

[00:27:23] about the Mets

[00:27:23] all that much.

[00:27:24] They don't have

[00:27:25] a ton to offer

[00:27:26] for Luis Castillo,

[00:27:27] but there are

[00:27:28] a couple

[00:27:28] trade packages

[00:27:29] out there we just

[00:27:30] at least want

[00:27:30] to talk about

[00:27:31] and see

[00:27:33] why the Mets

[00:27:34] are in this

[00:27:35] current situation

[00:27:35] and why they

[00:27:36] want to trade

[00:27:36] for Luis Castillo.

[00:27:38] But,

[00:27:39] is there anything

[00:27:40] here that

[00:27:41] sticks out

[00:27:42] when you hear

[00:27:42] that the Mets

[00:27:43] are interested?

[00:27:45] The trade

[00:27:46] that was thrown

[00:27:46] out there,

[00:27:47] which for people

[00:27:47] that haven't

[00:27:48] seen it,

[00:27:48] here's what

[00:27:48] was thrown

[00:27:49] out by

[00:27:49] a really

[00:27:50] intelligent

[00:27:51] Twitter account

[00:27:52] that said

[00:27:53] the Mariners

[00:27:54] would trade

[00:27:54] Luis Castillo

[00:27:55] to the Mets

[00:27:55] and in return

[00:27:57] the Mets

[00:27:57] would trade

[00:27:58] to the Mariners

[00:27:59] Brett Beatty

[00:28:00] who is essentially

[00:28:01] supposed to be

[00:28:02] the headliner

[00:28:02] of this trade

[00:28:03] which for those

[00:28:03] who don't know

[00:28:04] Brett Beatty

[00:28:05] wants the Mets

[00:28:06] one of the Mets

[00:28:06] top prospects

[00:28:07] in parts of

[00:28:09] three big league

[00:28:09] seasons now

[00:28:10] he has a

[00:28:10] 600 career

[00:28:11] OPS

[00:28:12] and isn't a

[00:28:13] very good

[00:28:13] defender at

[00:28:13] third base

[00:28:14] they also threw

[00:28:15] in

[00:28:17] prospects

[00:28:17] Jesus Baez

[00:28:19] infielder

[00:28:20] Nick Morabito

[00:28:21] an outfielder

[00:28:22] two guys who

[00:28:23] are on the

[00:28:23] back end

[00:28:23] of their

[00:28:24] top 30

[00:28:24] on MLB

[00:28:25] Pipeline

[00:28:26] and pitcher

[00:28:27] Christopher Gomez

[00:28:28] who is not

[00:28:30] in their top 30

[00:28:31] isn't above

[00:28:32] A ball

[00:28:32] and has thrown

[00:28:33] less than

[00:28:33] 100 pro

[00:28:33] innings

[00:28:34] so

[00:28:35] that tweet

[00:28:36] was ended

[00:28:36] by the sentence

[00:28:37] of

[00:28:37] who says

[00:28:38] no

[00:28:38] and let me

[00:28:39] repeat what I

[00:28:40] said on social

[00:28:40] media

[00:28:41] who says

[00:28:41] no

[00:28:42] Seattle

[00:28:43] the Mariners

[00:28:44] say no

[00:28:44] they don't

[00:28:45] pick up

[00:28:45] the damn

[00:28:46] phone

[00:28:46] for this

[00:28:48] Jerry DePoto

[00:28:49] and Justin

[00:28:49] Hollander

[00:28:50] said they're

[00:28:50] only moving

[00:28:51] Luis Castillo

[00:28:52] if it makes

[00:28:53] their big league

[00:28:53] roster meaningfully

[00:28:54] better

[00:28:55] aka you're

[00:28:55] getting impact

[00:28:56] big league

[00:28:56] players in

[00:28:57] return

[00:28:58] Brett

[00:28:58] Beatty

[00:28:59] is not

[00:29:00] the impact

[00:29:01] big league

[00:29:02] player

[00:29:02] they're talking

[00:29:03] about

[00:29:03] you don't

[00:29:04] trade

[00:29:04] Luis Castillo

[00:29:05] for a guy

[00:29:05] with a 600

[00:29:06] OPS

[00:29:07] nope

[00:29:07] sorry

[00:29:07] the only

[00:29:08] positive

[00:29:09] about

[00:29:09] Brett

[00:29:09] Beatty

[00:29:10] is he's

[00:29:10] 25

[00:29:11] yeah

[00:29:12] but that's

[00:29:12] it

[00:29:13] here

[00:29:14] so

[00:29:15] okay

[00:29:15] so we

[00:29:16] saw that

[00:29:16] trade

[00:29:16] and you

[00:29:17] and I

[00:29:17] thought

[00:29:18] all right

[00:29:18] there's

[00:29:18] gotta be

[00:29:19] some

[00:29:20] there's

[00:29:20] gotta be

[00:29:20] some

[00:29:21] way

[00:29:21] we can

[00:29:22] try and

[00:29:22] make

[00:29:22] this

[00:29:22] work

[00:29:23] something

[00:29:23] that

[00:29:23] actually

[00:29:24] won't

[00:29:25] make the

[00:29:25] Mariners

[00:29:25] hang up

[00:29:25] the phone

[00:29:26] at start

[00:29:26] I'm gonna

[00:29:27] be honest

[00:29:27] before we

[00:29:28] get into

[00:29:28] the trade

[00:29:28] package

[00:29:29] that we

[00:29:29] put

[00:29:30] together

[00:29:32] there's

[00:29:32] not a

[00:29:32] lot

[00:29:33] no

[00:29:33] the Mets

[00:29:34] are a

[00:29:35] absolute

[00:29:36] long shot

[00:29:37] to make

[00:29:37] this deal

[00:29:37] done

[00:29:38] and let

[00:29:39] me add

[00:29:39] one more

[00:29:39] thing

[00:29:42] the player

[00:29:43] I truly

[00:29:44] think the

[00:29:44] Mariners

[00:29:44] would only

[00:29:45] pick up the

[00:29:45] phone with

[00:29:46] the Mets

[00:29:46] realistically

[00:29:47] for is

[00:29:48] Mark

[00:29:48] Vientos

[00:29:49] we texted

[00:29:50] friend of

[00:29:51] the show

[00:29:51] Mark

[00:29:52] Luino

[00:29:52] draft

[00:29:52] draft

[00:29:53] Nick

[00:29:53] Mark

[00:29:54] noted

[00:29:54] Mets

[00:29:55] fan

[00:29:55] host of

[00:29:56] the

[00:29:56] Mets

[00:29:56] stuff

[00:29:56] podcast

[00:29:57] and

[00:29:57] we

[00:29:58] want

[00:29:59] we

[00:29:59] asked

[00:29:59] him

[00:29:59] it's

[00:29:59] like

[00:29:59] all right

[00:30:00] we have

[00:30:00] these

[00:30:00] Luis

[00:30:01] Castillo

[00:30:01] rumors

[00:30:01] what

[00:30:02] would

[00:30:02] the

[00:30:02] package

[00:30:03] be

[00:30:04] and

[00:30:05] he

[00:30:05] gave

[00:30:05] us

[00:30:05] a couple

[00:30:05] ideas

[00:30:06] which

[00:30:06] we'll

[00:30:06] read

[00:30:07] but

[00:30:08] the

[00:30:09] only

[00:30:09] way

[00:30:09] the

[00:30:10] Mariners

[00:30:11] and we

[00:30:12] ran this

[00:30:12] by

[00:30:12] Mark

[00:30:13] the

[00:30:13] Mariners

[00:30:13] answer

[00:30:14] the phone

[00:30:14] and talk

[00:30:15] to

[00:30:15] the Mets

[00:30:15] is if

[00:30:15] Mark

[00:30:16] Vientos

[00:30:16] is in

[00:30:19] if

[00:30:19] Pete

[00:30:20] leaves

[00:30:21] in

[00:30:21] free

[00:30:21] agency

[00:30:22] and

[00:30:22] goes

[00:30:22] somewhere

[00:30:22] else

[00:30:24] Mark

[00:30:25] said

[00:30:25] instantly

[00:30:25] no

[00:30:26] they're

[00:30:27] not

[00:30:27] trading

[00:30:27] Vientos

[00:30:27] is

[00:30:28] not

[00:30:28] on

[00:30:29] the

[00:30:29] table

[00:30:29] period

[00:30:29] I

[00:30:30] mean

[00:30:30] I

[00:30:30] even

[00:30:30] threw

[00:30:31] out

[00:30:31] like

[00:30:32] it

[00:30:32] would

[00:30:32] be

[00:30:33] Castillo

[00:30:33] and

[00:30:34] I

[00:30:35] say

[00:30:35] Farmelo

[00:30:36] was

[00:30:36] close

[00:30:36] it

[00:30:48] yeah

[00:30:49] so

[00:30:50] I

[00:30:50] think

[00:30:50] we're

[00:30:50] in

[00:30:51] the

[00:30:51] same

[00:30:51] boat

[00:30:51] that

[00:30:52] that's

[00:30:52] the

[00:30:52] guy

[00:30:52] that

[00:30:52] makes

[00:30:52] sense

[00:30:53] for

[00:30:53] the

[00:30:53] Mariners

[00:30:53] because

[00:30:53] Vientos

[00:30:54] is a

[00:30:54] corner

[00:30:55] infielder

[00:30:55] who had

[00:30:56] an

[00:30:56] unreal

[00:30:56] year

[00:30:56] at

[00:30:56] the

[00:30:57] plate

[00:30:57] Mariners

[00:30:58] need

[00:30:58] corner

[00:30:58] infielders

[00:30:58] and

[00:30:59] Vientos

[00:30:59] also

[00:30:59] has

[00:30:59] a

[00:31:00] ton

[00:31:00] of

[00:31:01] team

[00:31:01] control

[00:31:02] but

[00:31:02] that's

[00:31:03] also

[00:31:03] why

[00:31:03] the

[00:31:03] Mets

[00:31:03] aren't

[00:31:04] going

[00:31:04] to

[00:31:04] trade

[00:31:04] him

[00:31:04] the

[00:31:05] Mets

[00:31:05] I

[00:31:05] mean

[00:31:05] it

[00:31:05] doesn't

[00:31:06] even

[00:31:06] need

[00:31:06] to

[00:31:06] be

[00:31:06] said

[00:31:07] they're

[00:31:07] in

[00:31:07] a

[00:31:08] contention

[00:31:08] window

[00:31:08] they

[00:31:09] just

[00:31:09] signed

[00:31:09] the

[00:31:09] biggest

[00:31:09] contract

[00:31:10] in

[00:31:10] the

[00:31:10] history

[00:31:10] of

[00:31:10] baseball

[00:31:11] to

[00:31:11] modern

[00:31:12] day

[00:31:12] Ted

[00:31:12] Williams

[00:31:12] and

[00:31:13] Juan

[00:31:13] Soto

[00:31:14] they have

[00:31:14] Soto

[00:31:15] they have

[00:31:15] Lindor

[00:31:15] they're

[00:31:16] trying

[00:31:16] to

[00:31:16] bring

[00:31:16] Pete

[00:31:16] Alonzo

[00:31:17] back

[00:31:17] they're

[00:31:18] still

[00:31:18] trying

[00:31:18] to

[00:31:18] make

[00:31:18] moves

[00:31:19] like

[00:31:19] trade

[00:31:19] for

[00:31:19] Luis

[00:31:19] Castillo

[00:31:20] the

[00:31:34] especially

[00:31:34] with

[00:31:35] Pete

[00:31:35] Alonzo

[00:31:35] currently

[00:31:36] unsigned

[00:31:36] so

[00:31:37] that's

[00:31:37] exactly

[00:31:37] what

[00:31:38] Mark

[00:31:38] said

[00:31:38] when we

[00:31:38] text

[00:31:39] him

[00:31:39] and

[00:31:39] if

[00:31:39] you

[00:31:39] don't

[00:31:39] know

[00:31:40] by

[00:31:40] the

[00:31:40] way

[00:31:40] Mark

[00:31:40] TJ

[00:31:41] said

[00:31:41] he's

[00:31:41] been

[00:32:04] if

[00:32:04] the

[00:32:04] Mets

[00:32:07] were

[00:32:07] open

[00:32:08] minded

[00:32:08] to

[00:32:09] Castillo

[00:32:09] plus

[00:32:10] two

[00:32:10] top

[00:32:10] end

[00:32:10] prospects

[00:32:11] then

[00:32:11] the

[00:32:11] Mariners

[00:32:11] would

[00:32:12] say

[00:32:12] no

[00:32:12] because

[00:32:12] I

[00:32:12] draw

[00:32:12] the

[00:32:13] line

[00:32:13] right

[00:32:13] here

[00:32:13] at

[00:32:14] Luis

[00:32:15] Castillo

[00:32:15] and

[00:32:15] one

[00:32:15] top

[00:32:16] end

[00:32:16] prospect

[00:32:16] for

[00:32:17] Vientos

[00:32:17] past

[00:32:18] that

[00:32:18] point

[00:32:18] I

[00:32:19] would

[00:32:20] not

[00:32:20] do

[00:32:21] that

[00:32:21] so

[00:32:22] that's

[00:32:22] where

[00:32:23] the

[00:32:23] trade

[00:32:23] kind

[00:32:24] of

[00:32:24] loses

[00:32:24] legs

[00:32:24] in

[00:32:24] the

[00:32:25] Vientos

[00:32:25] aspect

[00:32:26] you

[00:32:27] want

[00:32:27] to

[00:32:27] know

[00:32:27] what

[00:32:27] Mark

[00:32:27] said

[00:32:28] the

[00:32:28] Mets

[00:32:28] would

[00:32:29] do

[00:32:29] I

[00:32:30] want

[00:32:30] your

[00:32:30] reaction

[00:32:30] to

[00:32:30] this

[00:32:31] trade

[00:32:31] package

[00:32:31] so

[00:32:32] the

[00:32:32] Mariners

[00:32:33] send

[00:32:33] the

[00:32:33] Mets

[00:32:33] Luis

[00:32:33] Castillo

[00:32:34] the

[00:32:35] Mets

[00:32:35] in

[00:32:36] return

[00:32:36] give

[00:32:37] back

[00:32:37] Jeff

[00:32:37] McNeil

[00:32:38] Ronnie

[00:32:39] Mauricio

[00:32:40] and

[00:32:41] their

[00:32:41] top

[00:32:41] other

[00:32:41] number

[00:32:41] two

[00:32:42] prospect

[00:32:42] Jet

[00:32:43] Williams

[00:32:44] would

[00:32:44] you

[00:32:44] do

[00:32:44] that

[00:32:45] and

[00:32:45] that's

[00:32:45] their

[00:32:46] top

[00:32:46] hitting

[00:32:46] prospect

[00:32:46] their

[00:32:47] top

[00:32:47] pitching

[00:32:47] prospect

[00:32:48] I

[00:32:49] don't

[00:32:49] think

[00:32:49] is

[00:32:50] in

[00:32:50] much

[00:32:50] need

[00:32:50] for

[00:32:50] the

[00:32:50] Mariners

[00:32:51] to be

[00:32:51] honest

[00:32:51] so

[00:32:52] and

[00:32:52] Mark

[00:32:53] said

[00:32:53] he's

[00:32:53] off

[00:32:53] the

[00:32:53] table

[00:32:53] anyway

[00:32:54] right

[00:32:54] and

[00:32:55] his

[00:33:00] yeah

[00:33:01] he got

[00:33:01] ejected

[00:33:02] yeah

[00:33:03] it was

[00:33:03] our

[00:33:03] umpire

[00:33:03] of the

[00:33:03] week

[00:33:04] yes

[00:33:04] it was

[00:33:04] shout

[00:33:05] out

[00:33:05] Brandon

[00:33:05] Sprout

[00:33:06] yeah

[00:33:07] would I

[00:33:08] do

[00:33:08] this

[00:33:08] trade

[00:33:10] probably

[00:33:10] not

[00:33:11] and

[00:33:12] by

[00:33:13] saying

[00:33:13] probably

[00:33:13] not

[00:33:14] this

[00:33:15] could

[00:33:15] be

[00:33:15] why

[00:33:15] the

[00:33:16] Mets

[00:33:16] and

[00:33:16] Mariners

[00:33:16] can't

[00:33:16] line

[00:33:17] up

[00:33:17] on

[00:33:17] a

[00:33:17] Luis

[00:33:17] Castillo

[00:33:18] trade

[00:33:18] because

[00:33:18] I

[00:33:30] really

[00:33:30] good

[00:33:30] bat

[00:33:31] at

[00:33:31] the

[00:33:31] major

[00:33:32] league

[00:33:32] level

[00:33:32] and

[00:33:33] who's

[00:33:33] it

[00:33:33] going

[00:33:34] to

[00:33:34] be

[00:33:35] Jeff

[00:33:35] McNeil

[00:33:36] is

[00:33:36] not

[00:33:37] the

[00:33:37] hitter

[00:33:37] he

[00:33:38] once

[00:33:38] was

[00:33:38] he's

[00:33:39] not

[00:33:39] an

[00:33:39] awful

[00:33:40] hitter

[00:33:40] but

[00:33:40] he's

[00:33:41] about

[00:33:41] a

[00:33:41] league

[00:33:41] average

[00:33:41] hitter

[00:33:42] at

[00:33:42] this

[00:33:42] point

[00:33:42] he's

[00:33:42] no

[00:33:42] longer

[00:33:43] the

[00:33:43] 130

[00:33:44] to

[00:33:44] 140

[00:33:45] WRC

[00:33:46] plus

[00:33:46] bat

[00:33:46] batting

[00:33:47] title

[00:33:48] champion

[00:33:48] that

[00:33:49] he

[00:33:49] was

[00:34:00] league

[00:34:00] average

[00:34:01] hitter

[00:34:01] now

[00:34:01] that's

[00:34:02] an

[00:34:02] upgrade

[00:34:02] for

[00:34:02] what

[00:34:02] the

[00:34:02] Mariners

[00:34:03] have

[00:34:03] had

[00:34:03] the

[00:34:03] last

[00:34:03] six

[00:34:03] years

[00:34:04] at

[00:34:04] second

[00:34:04] base

[00:34:04] and

[00:34:05] he

[00:34:05] still

[00:34:05] plays

[00:34:05] some

[00:34:05] solid

[00:34:06] defense

[00:34:06] he

[00:34:06] doesn't

[00:34:06] strike

[00:34:07] out

[00:34:07] he

[00:34:07] puts

[00:34:07] the

[00:34:07] ball

[00:34:08] in

[00:34:08] play

[00:34:08] but

[00:34:09] I

[00:34:09] don't

[00:34:10] know

[00:34:10] how

[00:34:10] much

[00:34:11] do

[00:34:11] the

[00:34:12] Mariners

[00:34:12] get

[00:34:12] meaningfully

[00:34:13] better

[00:34:13] through

[00:34:13] Jeff

[00:34:14] McNeil

[00:34:15] probably

[00:34:15] not

[00:34:16] and

[00:34:16] while

[00:34:17] you'd

[00:34:17] save

[00:34:18] a little

[00:34:18] bit

[00:34:18] of

[00:34:18] money

[00:34:19] it's

[00:34:19] not

[00:34:20] a

[00:34:20] ton

[00:34:20] of

[00:34:20] money

[00:34:20] you'd

[00:34:21] save

[00:34:21] either

[00:34:21] McNeil

[00:34:21] is

[00:34:22] set

[00:34:22] to

[00:34:22] make

[00:34:22] just

[00:34:22] under

[00:34:22] 16

[00:34:23] million

[00:34:23] bucks

[00:34:23] so

[00:34:24] I'll

[00:34:25] stop

[00:34:25] there

[00:34:25] because

[00:34:26] there's

[00:34:26] more

[00:34:26] to

[00:34:26] this

[00:34:26] trade

[00:34:26] to

[00:34:26] dissect

[00:34:27] but

[00:34:27] that

[00:34:27] is

[00:34:27] the

[00:34:28] major

[00:34:28] league

[00:34:28] player

[00:34:28] that

[00:34:28] would

[00:34:29] go

[00:34:29] back

[00:34:29] in

[00:34:29] this

[00:34:29] trade

[00:34:29] is

[00:34:30] Jeff

[00:34:30] McNeil

[00:34:30] and

[00:34:30] yes

[00:34:50] outside

[00:34:51] of

[00:34:51] that

[00:34:51] it's

[00:34:51] barely

[00:34:52] over

[00:34:52] 10

[00:34:52] home

[00:34:53] runs

[00:34:54] he's

[00:34:54] slowing

[00:34:55] down

[00:34:55] if

[00:34:56] you

[00:34:56] look

[00:34:56] at

[00:34:56] his

[00:34:56] savant

[00:34:57] page

[00:34:57] Lyle

[00:34:58] outside

[00:34:58] of

[00:34:58] his

[00:34:59] strikeouts

[00:35:00] and

[00:35:00] his

[00:35:00] whiff

[00:35:00] rate

[00:35:01] he

[00:35:01] is

[00:35:02] an

[00:35:02] objectively

[00:35:03] bad

[00:35:03] baseball

[00:35:04] player

[00:35:05] I

[00:35:06] don't

[00:35:06] know

[00:35:06] how

[00:35:06] else

[00:35:06] to

[00:35:06] put

[00:35:06] it

[00:35:06] and

[00:35:07] he's

[00:35:07] making

[00:35:07] 15

[00:35:07] and a

[00:35:07] half

[00:35:07] million

[00:35:08] dollars

[00:35:08] I

[00:35:09] don't

[00:35:09] think

[00:35:09] the

[00:35:09] Mariners

[00:35:09] are

[00:35:09] going

[00:35:09] to

[00:35:10] trade

[00:35:10] Luis

[00:35:11] Castillo

[00:35:12] to

[00:35:12] take

[00:35:12] on

[00:35:12] 15

[00:35:13] and

[00:35:13] a

[00:35:13] half

[00:35:13] million

[00:35:13] dollars

[00:35:14] and

[00:35:15] an

[00:35:16] objectively

[00:35:16] bad

[00:35:17] baseball

[00:35:17] player

[00:35:17] in

[00:35:17] almost

[00:35:18] every

[00:35:18] single

[00:35:19] aspect

[00:35:19] average

[00:35:20] defense

[00:35:20] bad

[00:35:21] base

[00:35:21] running

[00:35:50] bad

[00:35:52] player

[00:35:52] acquired

[00:35:53] that

[00:35:53] right

[00:35:54] that's

[00:35:54] like

[00:35:54] that's

[00:35:54] the

[00:35:54] only

[00:35:55] way

[00:35:55] but

[00:35:55] they're

[00:35:55] two

[00:35:56] totally

[00:35:56] different

[00:35:57] players

[00:35:57] Gino

[00:35:58] at least

[00:35:59] you can

[00:35:59] get

[00:35:59] hot

[00:36:00] he

[00:36:00] hit

[00:36:00] a few

[00:36:01] balls

[00:36:01] over

[00:36:01] the

[00:36:01] wall

[00:36:01] and

[00:36:02] all

[00:36:02] of

[00:36:22] are

[00:36:22] sick

[00:36:22] it's

[00:36:23] a

[00:36:24] real

[00:36:24] contending

[00:36:25] type

[00:36:25] of

[00:36:25] 14

[00:36:25] now

[00:36:26] with

[00:36:26] them

[00:36:26] signing

[00:36:26] Pomerantz

[00:36:27] if he

[00:36:27] makes

[00:36:27] the

[00:36:28] big

[00:36:28] league

[00:36:28] roster

[00:36:28] no

[00:36:29] should

[00:36:30] we

[00:36:30] make

[00:36:30] the

[00:36:30] joke

[00:36:30] 14

[00:36:31] no

[00:36:31] so

[00:36:33] if

[00:36:33] they

[00:36:34] well

[00:36:34] what

[00:36:35] about

[00:36:35] Neftali

[00:36:35] Feliz

[00:36:36] too

[00:36:36] what the

[00:36:37] hell

[00:36:38] was

[00:36:38] that

[00:36:40] Neftali

[00:36:40] Feliz

[00:36:40] has

[00:36:41] thrown

[00:36:41] four

[00:36:42] big

[00:36:42] innings

[00:36:43] in the

[00:36:43] last

[00:36:43] seven

[00:36:44] years

[00:36:45] do

[00:36:45] you

[00:36:45] know

[00:36:45] what's

[00:36:46] the

[00:36:46] funniest

[00:36:46] thing

[00:36:46] about

[00:36:46] all

[00:36:47] that

[00:36:47] he's

[00:36:47] only

[00:36:47] 36

[00:36:49] I'll

[00:36:50] say

[00:36:51] the

[00:36:52] middle

[00:36:52] school

[00:36:52] how

[00:36:52] is

[00:36:52] 36

[00:36:54] I

[00:36:54] don't

[00:36:55] know

[00:36:55] he

[00:36:55] came

[00:36:55] up

[00:36:55] pretty

[00:36:56] young

[00:36:56] I

[00:36:57] know

[00:36:57] but

[00:36:57] like

[00:36:58] this

[00:36:58] dude

[00:36:58] is

[00:36:58] pitching

[00:36:59] in

[00:36:59] the

[00:36:59] 2011

[00:37:00] world

[00:37:00] series

[00:37:04] wait

[00:37:05] was

[00:37:05] it

[00:37:06] him

[00:37:06] on

[00:37:06] the

[00:37:06] mound

[00:37:06] that

[00:37:07] gave

[00:37:07] up

[00:37:07] the

[00:37:07] triple

[00:37:08] to

[00:37:08] David

[00:37:08] freeze

[00:37:08] when

[00:37:08] Nelson

[00:37:09] Chris

[00:37:09] totally

[00:37:09] misplayed

[00:37:10] that

[00:37:10] ball

[00:37:10] yes

[00:37:11] well

[00:37:11] I

[00:37:12] couldn't

[00:37:12] remember

[00:37:12] if

[00:37:12] it

[00:37:12] was

[00:37:13] Neftali

[00:37:13] because

[00:37:13] I

[00:37:13] know

[00:37:13] he

[00:37:14] was

[00:37:14] the

[00:37:14] closer

[00:37:14] on

[00:37:14] that

[00:37:14] team

[00:37:15] I

[00:37:15] just

[00:37:15] couldn't

[00:37:15] remember

[00:37:15] it

[00:37:15] was

[00:37:15] him

[00:37:16] on

[00:37:16] the

[00:37:16] mound

[00:37:16] in

[00:37:17] that

[00:37:17] inning

[00:37:17] or

[00:37:17] if

[00:37:17] it

[00:37:17] was

[00:37:17] somebody

[00:37:18] else

[00:37:18] he

[00:37:18] didn't

[00:37:19] give

[00:37:19] up

[00:37:20] the

[00:37:20] walk

[00:37:20] off

[00:37:20] homer

[00:37:21] no

[00:37:21] that

[00:37:35] was

[00:37:45] don't

[00:37:45] even

[00:37:45] know

[00:37:45] what

[00:37:46] you

[00:37:46] qualify

[00:37:46] a full

[00:37:46] season

[00:37:46] I

[00:37:47] think

[00:37:47] he

[00:37:47] threw

[00:37:48] four

[00:37:51] big

[00:37:52] league

[00:37:52] innings

[00:37:52] in

[00:37:52] the

[00:37:53] last

[00:37:53] seven

[00:37:53] years

[00:37:53] and

[00:37:54] that

[00:37:54] was

[00:37:54] in

[00:37:54] 2021

[00:37:56] so

[00:37:58] the

[00:37:58] man

[00:37:58] the

[00:37:59] vibes

[00:37:59] are high

[00:38:00] yeah

[00:38:02] anyway

[00:38:02] anyway

[00:38:04] back

[00:38:05] to

[00:38:05] this

[00:38:06] budget

[00:38:06] which

[00:38:07] you

[00:38:07] know

[00:38:07] always

[00:38:08] always

[00:38:08] puts

[00:38:08] us

[00:38:09] in

[00:38:09] a

[00:38:09] good

[00:38:09] mood

[00:38:09] anyway

[00:38:09] if

[00:38:10] they

[00:38:11] were

[00:38:11] to

[00:38:11] get

[00:38:11] McNeil

[00:38:12] the

[00:38:13] budget

[00:38:13] would

[00:38:13] go

[00:38:13] from

[00:38:13] allegedly

[00:38:14] 16

[00:38:14] million

[00:38:14] bucks

[00:38:15] to

[00:38:15] 24

[00:38:15] million

[00:38:15] bucks

[00:38:16] that

[00:38:16] would

[00:38:16] put

[00:38:17] them

[00:38:35] real

[00:38:35] big

[00:38:35] league

[00:38:36] talent

[00:38:36] in

[00:38:36] return

[00:38:36] or

[00:38:37] young

[00:38:38] high

[00:38:39] end

[00:38:39] guys

[00:38:39] that

[00:38:39] are

[00:38:39] cheap

[00:38:40] so

[00:38:40] then

[00:38:41] your

[00:38:41] budget

[00:38:41] goes

[00:38:41] to

[00:38:41] something

[00:38:42] like

[00:38:42] 40

[00:38:42] million

[00:38:43] bucks

[00:38:43] and

[00:38:44] now

[00:38:44] you

[00:39:05] called

[00:39:05] up

[00:39:05] he

[00:39:06] destroyed

[00:39:06] triple

[00:39:07] a

[00:39:07] that

[00:39:07] year

[00:39:07] he

[00:39:07] was

[00:39:07] a

[00:39:07] top

[00:39:08] prospect

[00:39:08] he

[00:39:09] was

[00:39:09] highly

[00:39:09] touted

[00:39:09] unfortunately

[00:39:10] he

[00:39:11] missed

[00:39:11] all

[00:39:11] last

[00:39:12] year

[00:39:12] with

[00:39:12] an

[00:39:12] injury

[00:39:12] tore

[00:39:12] his

[00:39:13] ACL

[00:39:13] in

[00:39:13] December

[00:39:13] when

[00:39:14] he

[00:39:14] was

[00:39:14] playing

[00:39:14] winter

[00:39:14] ball

[00:39:14] and

[00:39:16] unfortunately

[00:39:16] he

[00:39:17] had

[00:39:17] just

[00:39:17] made

[00:39:18] it

[00:39:18] back

[00:39:18] to

[00:39:18] baseball

[00:39:19] activities

[00:39:19] this

[00:39:20] month

[00:39:21] after

[00:39:21] tearing

[00:39:21] his

[00:39:22] ACL

[00:39:22] a

[00:39:22] year

[00:39:22] ago

[00:39:22] which

[00:39:22] makes

[00:39:23] me

[00:39:23] a

[00:39:23] little

[00:39:23] bit

[00:39:23] nervous

[00:39:24] but

[00:39:24] that

[00:39:25] doesn't

[00:39:25] mean

[00:39:25] he's

[00:39:26] not

[00:39:26] a

[00:39:26] talented

[00:39:26] baseball

[00:39:26] player

[00:39:27] he's

[00:39:27] big

[00:39:27] he

[00:39:27] can

[00:39:27] play

[00:39:28] third

[00:39:28] base

[00:39:28] he's

[00:39:29] got

[00:39:29] some

[00:39:29] power

[00:39:29] he had

[00:39:30] three

[00:39:30] straight

[00:39:30] 20 homer

[00:39:31] seasons

[00:39:31] in the

[00:39:31] minors

[00:39:32] he's

[00:39:32] a

[00:39:32] legit

[00:39:33] player

[00:39:34] he

[00:39:34] just

[00:39:35] hasn't

[00:39:35] proven

[00:39:35] himself

[00:39:36] at the

[00:39:36] big

[00:39:36] league

[00:39:36] level

[00:39:36] yet

[00:39:37] this

[00:39:37] would

[00:39:37] be

[00:39:37] a

[00:39:38] big

[00:39:38] league

[00:39:39] lottery

[00:39:39] ticket

[00:39:39] for the

[00:39:40] Mariners

[00:39:40] to see

[00:39:40] if

[00:39:42] the

[00:39:45] injury

[00:39:45] doesn't

[00:39:46] affect

[00:39:46] him

[00:39:56] 2021

[00:39:56] first

[00:39:56] round

[00:39:57] pick

[00:39:57] he's

[00:39:58] at

[00:39:58] triple

[00:39:58] a

[00:39:58] this

[00:39:58] last

[00:39:59] year

[00:39:59] he's

[00:39:59] not

[00:39:59] that

[00:39:59] far

[00:40:00] away

[00:40:00] from

[00:40:00] the

[00:40:01] major

[00:40:01] leagues

[00:40:01] he's

[00:40:01] another

[00:40:02] guy

[00:40:02] who

[00:40:02] struggled

[00:40:02] with

[00:40:02] injuries

[00:40:03] this

[00:40:03] year

[00:40:03] it was

[00:40:03] a

[00:40:04] common

[00:40:04] theme

[00:40:04] with

[00:40:04] the

[00:40:04] Mets

[00:40:04] they

[00:40:05] didn't

[00:40:05] have

[00:40:05] a lot

[00:40:05] of

[00:40:05] guys

[00:40:06] that

[00:40:06] had

[00:40:07] amazing

[00:40:07] 2024

[00:40:08] seasons

[00:40:08] but

[00:40:09] at

[00:40:09] this

[00:40:09] point

[00:40:09] given

[00:40:09] how

[00:40:10] the

[00:40:10] Mariner

[00:40:11] situation

[00:40:11] is

[00:40:12] and

[00:40:12] they

[00:40:12] have

[00:40:12] to

[00:40:12] look

[00:40:12] at

[00:40:12] players

[00:40:13] like

[00:40:13] this

[00:40:13] that's

[00:40:14] the

[00:40:14] scenario

[00:40:14] we

[00:40:15] run

[00:40:26] the

[00:40:26] idea

[00:40:26] of

[00:40:26] pick

[00:40:27] between

[00:40:28] Ronnie

[00:40:29] Mauricio

[00:40:29] or

[00:40:30] Luis

[00:40:30] Angel

[00:40:30] Acuna

[00:40:30] and

[00:40:31] the

[00:40:31] reason

[00:40:32] I

[00:40:32] at

[00:40:33] least

[00:40:33] sided

[00:40:33] with

[00:40:33] the

[00:40:34] Mauricio

[00:40:34] idea

[00:40:34] is

[00:40:35] in

[00:40:35] spite

[00:40:35] of

[00:40:35] the

[00:40:35] injuries

[00:40:36] if

[00:40:37] you're

[00:40:37] going

[00:40:37] to

[00:40:37] take

[00:40:37] a

[00:40:37] lottery

[00:40:38] ticket

[00:40:38] on

[00:40:38] a

[00:40:38] guy

[00:40:39] Acuna

[00:40:40] is

[00:40:40] small

[00:40:41] he

[00:40:43] he's

[00:40:43] a second

[00:40:44] baseman

[00:40:44] he is

[00:40:45] a second

[00:40:45] baseman

[00:40:45] I don't

[00:40:46] think he's

[00:40:46] got the

[00:40:46] versatility

[00:40:47] to do

[00:40:47] a whole

[00:40:48] lot

[00:40:48] else

[00:40:52] I

[00:40:56] have

[00:40:56] second

[00:40:56] baseman

[00:40:56] so

[00:40:57] I

[00:40:57] don't

[00:40:57] know

[00:40:57] what

[00:40:57] another

[00:40:58] second

[00:40:58] baseman

[00:40:58] would

[00:40:59] do

[00:40:59] could

[00:41:00] Mauricio

[00:41:00] play

[00:41:00] second

[00:41:01] base

[00:41:01] if

[00:41:01] needed

[00:41:01] yes

[00:41:02] but

[00:41:02] he's

[00:41:03] 6'3

[00:41:04] really

[00:41:05] good

[00:41:05] athlete

[00:41:05] has

[00:41:06] a

[00:41:06] big

[00:41:06] arm

[00:41:06] I'm

[00:41:07] thinking

[00:41:26] the

[00:41:26] numbers

[00:41:26] won't

[00:41:26] show

[00:41:26] it

[00:41:26] he

[00:41:27] had

[00:41:27] a

[00:41:27] 640

[00:41:27] OPS

[00:41:28] in

[00:41:28] 22

[00:41:28] games

[00:41:29] but

[00:41:29] he

[00:41:29] had

[00:41:29] some

[00:41:29] games

[00:41:29] where

[00:41:29] he

[00:41:30] really

[00:41:30] flashed

[00:41:31] in

[00:41:31] that

[00:41:31] small

[00:41:31] sample

[00:41:31] and

[00:41:32] he

[00:41:33] is

[00:41:33] the

[00:41:33] more

[00:41:34] ideal

[00:41:34] profile

[00:41:35] to

[00:41:36] dream

[00:41:36] on

[00:41:36] so

[00:41:37] that's

[00:41:37] the

[00:41:37] Mauricio

[00:41:38] side

[00:41:38] of

[00:41:38] it

[00:41:38] and

[00:41:39] Jet

[00:41:39] Williams

[00:41:39] also

[00:41:40] probably

[00:41:40] a

[00:41:40] second

[00:41:40] baseman

[00:41:41] why

[00:41:41] Lyle

[00:41:41] how

[00:41:41] tall

[00:41:42] is

[00:41:42] he

[00:41:44] 5'6

[00:41:47] yeah

[00:41:48] second

[00:41:48] baseman

[00:41:49] so

[00:41:49] if

[00:41:50] you're

[00:41:50] already

[00:41:50] going

[00:41:50] to

[00:41:50] get

[00:41:50] somebody

[00:41:51] like

[00:41:56] well

[00:41:56] they say

[00:41:57] Williams

[00:41:57] can play

[00:41:57] some

[00:41:58] center

[00:41:58] field

[00:41:58] which

[00:41:59] he

[00:41:59] can

[00:41:59] he

[00:41:59] has

[00:42:00] played

[00:42:00] some

[00:42:00] center

[00:42:00] field

[00:42:00] he's

[00:42:00] a

[00:42:01] good

[00:42:01] athlete

[00:42:01] so

[00:42:02] Williams

[00:42:03] is

[00:42:03] small

[00:42:03] but

[00:42:03] he's

[00:42:03] a

[00:42:03] really

[00:42:04] good

[00:42:04] athlete

[00:42:04] and

[00:42:05] that's

[00:42:05] another

[00:42:05] thing

[00:42:20] you

[00:42:26] as

[00:42:26] good

[00:42:26] an

[00:42:26] idea

[00:42:26] as

[00:42:27] we

[00:42:27] can

[00:42:27] cook

[00:42:27] up

[00:42:27] with

[00:42:27] the

[00:42:28] Mets

[00:42:28] if

[00:42:28] they're

[00:42:28] not

[00:42:28] going

[00:42:29] to

[00:42:29] trademark

[00:42:29] Vientos

[00:42:30] ultimately

[00:42:31] though

[00:42:31] there's

[00:42:31] no

[00:42:31] good

[00:42:32] reason

[00:42:32] for

[00:42:32] the

[00:42:32] Mariners

[00:42:33] to

[00:42:33] do

[00:42:33] this

[00:42:33] trade

[00:42:33] we

[00:42:34] you

[00:42:34] shouldn't

[00:42:35] have

[00:42:35] to

[00:42:35] talk

[00:42:35] yourself

[00:42:36] into

[00:42:36] any

[00:42:36] prospects

[00:42:36] you're

[00:42:37] getting

[00:42:37] in

[00:42:37] a

[00:42:37] Luis

[00:42:37] Castillo

[00:42:38] trade

[00:42:38] if

[00:42:38] they're

[00:42:39] the

[00:42:39] reason

[00:42:40] you

[00:42:40] make

[00:42:40] this

[00:42:40] trade

[00:42:40] and

[00:42:40] Jeff

[00:42:41] McNeil

[00:42:41] stinks

[00:42:41] at

[00:42:41] this

[00:42:42] point

[00:42:42] no

[00:42:42] there

[00:42:43] is

[00:42:44] one

[00:42:44] prospect

[00:42:45] within

[00:42:45] reason

[00:42:45] I

[00:42:46] would

[00:42:46] trade

[00:42:46] Luis

[00:42:46] Castillo

[00:42:47] for

[00:42:47] it's

[00:42:47] Kobe

[00:42:48] Mayo

[00:42:48] that's

[00:42:49] about

[00:42:49] it

[00:42:49] okay

[00:42:50] yes

[00:42:50] would

[00:42:50] I

[00:42:50] trade

[00:42:50] Luis

[00:42:51] Castillo

[00:42:51] for

[00:42:51] Jackson

[00:42:52] Holiday

[00:42:52] yes

[00:42:53] would

[00:42:54] I

[00:42:54] trade

[00:42:54] Luis

[00:42:54] Castillo

[00:42:55] for

[00:42:56] you

[00:42:56] know

[00:42:56] pick

[00:42:57] your

[00:42:57] poison

[00:42:57] of

[00:42:58] MLB's

[00:42:58] absolute

[00:42:59] blue

[00:42:59] chip

[00:43:00] prospects

[00:43:00] would

[00:43:01] I

[00:43:01] trade

[00:43:01] him

[00:43:01] for

[00:43:01] those

[00:43:01] guys

[00:43:02] yeah

[00:43:02] but

[00:43:03] those

[00:43:03] guys

[00:43:04] aren't

[00:43:04] going to

[00:43:04] be

[00:43:15] yes

[00:43:16] we

[00:43:16] wanted

[00:43:17] to

[00:43:17] try

[00:43:17] to

[00:43:18] talk

[00:43:18] through

[00:43:18] the

[00:43:18] idea

[00:43:18] of

[00:43:19] a

[00:43:19] Mariners

[00:43:19] Mets

[00:43:19] trade

[00:43:20] because

[00:43:20] the

[00:43:20] Mets

[00:43:20] are

[00:43:21] interested

[00:43:21] because

[00:43:21] they've

[00:43:22] been

[00:43:22] linked

[00:43:22] to

[00:43:22] Luis

[00:43:22] because

[00:43:23] they're

[00:43:23] the

[00:43:23] one

[00:43:24] team

[00:43:24] we haven't

[00:43:24] really

[00:43:24] talked

[00:43:24] about

[00:43:25] yet

[00:43:25] in

[00:43:25] conjunction

[00:43:26] with

[00:43:26] Luis

[00:43:26] Castillo

[00:43:27] but

[00:43:27] the

[00:43:28] Mets

[00:43:28] make

[00:43:28] the

[00:43:28] least

[00:43:29] sense

[00:43:29] of

[00:43:29] the

[00:43:29] four

[00:43:29] teams

[00:43:30] that

[00:43:30] are

[00:43:30] rumored

[00:43:30] to be

[00:43:30] in

[00:43:31] because

[00:43:31] they

[00:43:31] just

[00:43:32] don't

[00:43:32] have

[00:43:33] the

[00:43:33] young

[00:43:34] controllable

[00:43:34] big

[00:43:35] pieces

[00:43:35] the

[00:43:35] Mariners

[00:43:36] would

[00:43:36] be

[00:43:36] looking

[00:43:36] for

[00:43:36] in

[00:43:36] return

[00:43:37] again

[00:43:37] not

[00:43:38] named

[00:43:38] Mark

[00:43:38] Vientos

[00:43:38] which

[00:43:39] we

[00:43:39] think

[00:43:39] the

[00:43:39] Mets

[00:43:39] would

[00:43:39] not

[00:43:40] trade

[00:43:41] yeah

[00:43:42] but

[00:43:43] there's

[00:43:44] still

[00:43:44] and I

[00:43:45] already

[00:43:45] move on

[00:43:46] to

[00:43:46] the

[00:43:46] last

[00:43:46] idea

[00:43:47] there

[00:43:48] is

[00:43:48] still

[00:43:48] an

[00:43:48] idea

[00:43:49] out

[00:43:49] there

[00:43:49] that's

[00:43:49] kind

[00:43:49] of

[00:43:50] lost

[00:43:50] steam

[00:43:51] with

[00:43:52] us

[00:43:52] that

[00:43:53] could

[00:43:54] open

[00:43:54] up

[00:43:54] if

[00:43:55] the

[00:43:55] Mariners

[00:43:55] decide

[00:43:55] to

[00:43:57] trade

[00:43:57] off

[00:43:58] of

[00:43:58] Luis

[00:43:58] Castillo

[00:43:58] to

[00:43:59] whoever

[00:43:59] they

[00:43:59] decide

[00:44:00] to

[00:44:00] trade

[00:44:00] him

[00:44:00] off

[00:44:00] to

[00:44:01] and

[00:44:01] this

[00:44:02] is

[00:44:02] because

[00:44:02] I

[00:44:02] will

[00:44:03] say

[00:44:03] this

[00:44:03] idea

[00:44:03] came

[00:44:04] back

[00:44:04] up

[00:44:04] a

[00:44:04] little

[00:44:04] bit

[00:44:04] because

[00:44:05] there

[00:44:06] was

[00:44:06] some

[00:44:06] reporting

[00:44:06] out

[00:44:06] this

[00:44:07] weekend

[00:44:07] again

[00:44:07] that

[00:44:07] the

[00:44:08] Mariners

[00:44:08] had

[00:44:08] talked

[00:44:09] to

[00:44:09] Christian

[00:44:10] Walker's

[00:44:10] camp

[00:44:11] it

[00:44:11] sounded

[00:44:11] like

[00:44:12] and

[00:44:12] were

[00:44:13] wide-eyed

[00:44:13] at

[00:44:13] the

[00:44:32] who

[00:44:32] cares

[00:44:33] he's

[00:44:34] good

[00:44:34] of

[00:44:35] course

[00:44:35] he's

[00:44:35] expensive

[00:44:37] along

[00:44:37] with

[00:44:37] what

[00:44:38] an

[00:44:38] absolute

[00:44:38] joke

[00:44:38] of

[00:44:39] a

[00:44:39] budget

[00:44:39] etc

[00:44:39] etc

[00:44:40] yeah

[00:44:40] yeah

[00:44:41] there

[00:44:42] is

[00:44:42] one

[00:44:42] guy

[00:44:42] who

[00:44:43] I

[00:44:43] will

[00:44:43] say

[00:44:43] Lyle

[00:44:43] potentially

[00:44:44] is

[00:44:45] cheaper

[00:44:45] on a

[00:44:45] year-to-year

[00:44:46] basis

[00:44:47] and

[00:44:47] you

[00:44:48] could

[00:44:48] control

[00:44:48] for

[00:44:48] longer

[00:44:48] and

[00:44:49] he's

[00:44:49] younger

[00:44:49] we

[00:44:50] talked

[00:44:50] about

[00:44:50] him

[00:44:51] this

[00:44:51] off

[00:44:51] season

[00:44:52] and

[00:44:52] Jack

[00:44:52] McWilliam

[00:44:52] tabbed

[00:44:53] him

[00:44:53] as

[00:44:53] the

[00:44:54] guy

[00:44:54] he

[00:44:54] wanted

[00:44:55] the

[00:44:55] Mariners

[00:44:55] to

[00:44:55] go

[00:44:55] get

[00:44:55] this

[00:44:55] off

[00:44:56] season

[00:44:56] it's

[00:44:56] Anthony

[00:44:56] Santander

[00:44:58] haven't

[00:44:58] heard

[00:44:58] his

[00:44:58] name

[00:44:58] a

[00:44:59] whole

[00:44:59] lot

[00:44:59] floating

[00:44:59] around

[00:44:59] there

[00:45:00] recently

[00:45:00] but

[00:45:01] he's

[00:45:01] still

[00:45:01] available

[00:45:02] and

[00:45:02] this

[00:45:03] is

[00:45:03] why

[00:45:03] I

[00:45:03] wanted

[00:45:03] to

[00:45:03] float

[00:45:04] this

[00:45:04] out

[00:45:04] what

[00:45:05] in

[00:45:25] camp

[00:45:25] I

[00:45:25] mean

[00:45:25] anywhere

[00:45:26] it's

[00:45:27] quiet

[00:45:27] as

[00:45:28] could

[00:45:28] be

[00:45:28] you

[00:45:28] could

[00:45:28] hear

[00:45:28] crickets

[00:45:29] you

[00:45:29] could

[00:45:29] hear

[00:45:29] pin

[00:45:29] drop

[00:45:30] so

[00:45:30] yes

[00:45:31] I

[00:45:31] would

[00:45:31] love

[00:45:32] to

[00:45:32] circle

[00:45:32] back

[00:45:32] to

[00:45:32] this

[00:45:32] for

[00:45:33] the

[00:45:33] Mariners

[00:45:33] sake

[00:45:33] on

[00:45:33] Anthony

[00:45:34] Santander

[00:45:34] and

[00:45:35] if

[00:45:35] you

[00:45:35] were

[00:45:35] to

[00:45:36] trade

[00:45:36] Luis

[00:45:36] and

[00:45:37] free

[00:45:37] up

[00:45:37] that

[00:45:37] money

[00:45:39] yes

[00:45:39] you

[00:45:39] get

[00:45:40] in

[00:45:40] the

[00:45:40] Anthony

[00:45:40] Santander

[00:45:41] range

[00:45:41] and

[00:45:42] he

[00:45:42] makes

[00:45:42] a

[00:45:42] lot

[00:45:42] of

[00:45:42] sense

[00:45:44] let's

[00:45:44] remove

[00:45:45] the

[00:45:45] elephant

[00:45:45] from

[00:45:45] the

[00:45:45] room

[00:45:46] first

[00:45:46] and

[00:45:46] just

[00:45:47] say

[00:45:47] what

[00:45:47] it

[00:45:47] would

[00:45:47] cost

[00:45:48] and

[00:45:49] then

[00:45:49] we'll

[00:45:49] go

[00:45:49] from

[00:45:49] there

[00:45:49] yeah

[00:45:50] okay

[00:45:50] so

[00:45:51] he

[00:45:51] was

[00:45:51] projected

[00:45:52] to

[00:45:53] make

[00:45:53] a

[00:45:54] four

[00:45:54] year

[00:45:54] 88

[00:45:55] million

[00:45:56] dollar

[00:45:56] contract

[00:45:56] in

[00:45:57] free

[00:45:57] agency

[00:45:57] that's

[00:45:58] what

[00:45:58] he

[00:45:58] was

[00:45:59] projected

[00:45:59] to

[00:45:59] get

[00:45:59] at

[00:45:59] the

[00:45:59] start

[00:46:00] of

[00:46:00] the

[00:46:00] off

[00:46:00] season

[00:46:00] so

[00:46:00] that's

[00:46:01] about

[00:46:01] 22

[00:46:01] million

[00:46:02] bucks

[00:46:02] a

[00:46:02] year

[00:46:02] and

[00:46:03] he

[00:46:03] says

[00:46:04] he

[00:46:04] wants

[00:46:04] a

[00:46:04] five

[00:46:04] year

[00:46:05] deal

[00:46:05] and

[00:46:05] he's

[00:46:05] saying

[00:46:05] a

[00:46:05] five

[00:46:06] year

[00:46:06] deal

[00:46:06] because

[00:46:07] there

[00:46:07] have

[00:46:07] been

[00:46:07] some

[00:46:07] similar

[00:46:08] players

[00:46:09] before

[00:46:09] him

[00:46:10] to

[00:46:10] sign

[00:46:10] four

[00:46:11] and

[00:46:11] five

[00:46:11] year

[00:46:11] deals

[00:46:12] Nick

[00:46:12] Cassianos

[00:46:13] JD

[00:46:14] Martinez

[00:46:16] goodness

[00:46:17] there's

[00:46:17] one more

[00:46:17] Kyle

[00:46:18] Schwarber

[00:46:18] I think

[00:46:18] were the

[00:46:19] three

[00:46:19] I

[00:46:19] saw

[00:46:19] noted

[00:46:20] that

[00:46:20] were

[00:46:20] the

[00:46:21] comparison

[00:46:21] for

[00:46:22] an

[00:46:22] Anthony

[00:46:22] Santander

[00:46:23] type

[00:46:23] defense

[00:46:24] isn't

[00:46:25] great

[00:46:25] it's

[00:46:25] going

[00:46:25] to

[00:46:25] slug

[00:46:26] a

[00:46:26] ton

[00:46:26] really

[00:46:27] good

[00:46:27] hitter

[00:46:28] but

[00:46:28] not

[00:46:28] much

[00:46:29] not

[00:46:29] much

[00:46:30] else

[00:46:30] value

[00:46:30] there

[00:46:31] for

[00:46:31] for

[00:46:31] Mr.

[00:46:32] Santander

[00:46:33] like

[00:46:34] in

[00:46:34] terms

[00:46:35] of

[00:46:35] the

[00:46:35] roster

[00:46:36] fit

[00:46:36] obviously

[00:46:37] he

[00:46:37] fits

[00:46:37] in

[00:46:37] this

[00:46:37] lineup

[00:46:38] but

[00:46:39] you

[00:46:39] now

[00:46:40] have

[00:46:40] if

[00:46:40] you

[00:46:40] sign

[00:46:41] him

[00:46:41] let's

[00:46:42] say

[00:46:42] you

[00:46:42] would

[00:46:42] have

[00:46:42] two

[00:46:43] players

[00:46:43] who

[00:46:44] would

[00:46:44] be

[00:46:44] poor

[00:46:45] outfielders

[00:46:46] slash

[00:46:46] DH

[00:46:46] H

[00:46:47] types

[00:46:47] he

[00:46:47] could

[00:46:47] manage

[00:46:48] that

[00:46:48] with

[00:46:49] Santander

[00:46:49] I

[00:46:50] saw

[00:46:50] some

[00:46:51] Yankees

[00:46:52] sites

[00:46:52] Lyle

[00:46:52] floating

[00:46:53] that

[00:46:54] teams

[00:46:55] could

[00:46:55] ask

[00:46:55] him

[00:46:55] if

[00:46:55] he

[00:46:56] wants

[00:46:56] to

[00:46:56] play

[00:46:56] first

[00:46:56] base

[00:46:57] he's

[00:46:57] played

[00:46:57] 79

[00:46:58] innings

[00:46:59] at

[00:46:59] first

[00:46:59] base

[00:46:59] in

[00:47:00] his

[00:47:00] career

[00:47:00] I

[00:47:01] don't

[00:47:01] know

[00:47:01] if

[00:47:01] the

[00:47:01] Mariners

[00:47:02] could

[00:47:02] sell

[00:47:02] him

[00:47:03] on

[00:47:03] playing

[00:47:03] at

[00:47:03] first

[00:47:03] base

[00:47:04] it's

[00:47:04] like

[00:47:04] oh

[00:47:04] yeah

[00:47:04] come

[00:47:05] to

[00:47:05] T-Mobile

[00:47:05] park

[00:47:05] you

[00:47:06] can't

[00:47:06] hit

[00:47:06] here

[00:47:06] and

[00:47:07] you're

[00:47:07] going

[00:47:07] to

[00:47:07] play

[00:47:07] first

[00:47:08] base

[00:47:08] no

[00:47:08] pressure

[00:47:09] I

[00:47:10] don't

[00:47:10] know

[00:47:10] if

[00:47:11] he'd

[00:47:11] be

[00:47:11] all

[00:47:11] in

[00:47:12] on

[00:47:12] that

[00:47:12] but

[00:47:12] those

[00:47:12] are

[00:47:12] some

[00:47:13] of

[00:47:13] the

[00:47:13] ideas

[00:47:13] I've

[00:47:14] seen

[00:47:14] out

[00:47:15] there

[00:47:15] on

[00:47:15] what

[00:47:16] he

[00:47:16] would

[00:47:16] do

[00:47:17] counterpoint

[00:47:18] if

[00:47:18] he

[00:47:18] gets

[00:47:18] the

[00:47:19] money

[00:47:19] would

[00:47:19] he

[00:47:19] really

[00:47:20] be

[00:47:20] up

[00:47:20] in

[00:47:20] arms

[00:47:20] about

[00:47:20] it

[00:47:21] if

[00:47:21] the

[00:47:21] Mariners

[00:47:21] gave

[00:47:21] him

[00:47:22] five

[00:47:22] for

[00:47:22] 110

[00:47:22] you

[00:47:23] don't

[00:47:24] think

[00:47:24] he'd

[00:47:24] come

[00:47:25] around

[00:47:25] to

[00:47:25] it

[00:47:26] not

[00:47:27] for

[00:47:27] the

[00:47:27] Mariners

[00:47:29] all

[00:47:29] right

[00:47:29] I

[00:47:30] was

[00:47:30] also

[00:47:30] going

[00:47:30] to

[00:47:30] throw

[00:47:30] out

[00:47:30] the

[00:47:30] idea

[00:47:31] you're

[00:47:32] also

[00:47:32] insinuating

[00:47:33] the

[00:47:33] Mariners

[00:47:34] would

[00:47:34] reach

[00:47:34] the

[00:47:35] top

[00:47:35] dollar

[00:47:35] of

[00:47:35] anyone

[00:47:36] else

[00:47:36] like

[00:47:36] if

[00:47:37] they

[00:47:37] went

[00:47:37] out

[00:47:37] and

[00:47:37] outbid

[00:47:38] everybody

[00:47:38] else

[00:47:39] and

[00:47:40] paid

[00:47:40] this

[00:47:40] like

[00:47:41] 20

[00:47:41] million

[00:47:42] dollar

[00:47:42] over

[00:47:42] offer

[00:47:43] for

[00:47:43] Anthony

[00:47:43] Santander

[00:47:44] maybe

[00:47:45] but the

[00:47:46] Seattle

[00:47:46] Mariners

[00:47:47] wouldn't

[00:47:47] do

[00:47:47] that

[00:47:48] let me

[00:47:49] also

[00:47:49] throw

[00:47:49] this

[00:48:00] week

[00:48:00] we

[00:48:00] have

[00:48:01] you

[00:48:01] play

[00:48:01] first

[00:48:01] it

[00:48:01] could

[00:48:02] fill

[00:48:02] something

[00:48:03] maybe

[00:48:04] I

[00:48:04] don't

[00:48:05] do

[00:48:05] that

[00:48:05] yes

[00:48:06] so

[00:48:06] that's

[00:48:06] that's

[00:48:07] that's

[00:48:07] what

[00:48:07] I'm

[00:48:07] getting

[00:48:08] at

[00:48:08] here

[00:48:08] is

[00:48:08] the

[00:48:09] Mariners

[00:48:09] obviously

[00:48:09] have a lot

[00:48:10] of

[00:48:10] outfielders

[00:48:10] but they

[00:48:11] need

[00:48:11] bats

[00:48:11] on the

[00:48:12] roster

[00:48:12] are we

[00:48:13] going to

[00:48:13] spend

[00:48:13] five

[00:48:13] minutes

[00:48:14] here

[00:48:30] C plus

[00:48:30] hitter

[00:48:31] each

[00:48:31] of the

[00:48:32] last

[00:48:32] three

[00:48:32] seasons

[00:48:32] and he

[00:48:33] actually

[00:48:33] doesn't

[00:48:33] strike out

[00:48:34] that much

[00:48:34] he was

[00:48:35] under

[00:48:35] 20%

[00:48:36] this past

[00:48:36] year

[00:48:36] oh by

[00:48:37] the way

[00:48:37] last

[00:48:37] thing

[00:48:38] he's

[00:48:38] a switch

[00:48:39] hitter

[00:48:39] who

[00:48:39] pretty

[00:48:40] equally

[00:48:40] hits

[00:48:40] from both

[00:48:40] sides

[00:48:41] of the

[00:48:41] plate

[00:48:41] yeah

[00:48:42] sign me up

[00:48:43] for that

[00:48:43] guy

[00:48:43] will the

[00:48:44] Mariners

[00:48:44] sign up

[00:48:44] for that

[00:48:44] guy

[00:48:45] they'd

[00:48:46] have to

[00:48:46] fork up

[00:48:46] the money

[00:48:47] he'd be

[00:48:48] worth it

[00:48:48] if you

[00:48:49] have a

[00:48:49] lineup

[00:48:49] all

[00:48:49] of a

[00:48:50] sudden

[00:48:50] that has

[00:48:51] Julio

[00:48:51] protected

[00:48:52] by Cal

[00:48:52] Raleigh

[00:48:53] Randy

[00:48:53] Rosarena

[00:48:53] and Anthony

[00:48:54] Santander

[00:48:55] that feels

[00:48:55] like a

[00:48:56] real middle

[00:48:57] of the

[00:48:57] lineup

[00:48:57] all of a

[00:48:57] sudden

[00:48:58] and once

[00:48:59] you trade

[00:48:59] Castillo

[00:48:59] on a

[00:49:00] year to

[00:49:00] year basis

[00:49:01] you can

[00:49:01] afford

[00:49:02] that

[00:49:02] yes

[00:49:03] especially

[00:49:03] if you're

[00:49:04] not taking

[00:49:04] money back

[00:49:05] like throw

[00:49:05] the Mets

[00:49:06] idea out

[00:49:06] there

[00:49:06] take a

[00:49:07] deal

[00:49:07] where you're

[00:49:08] not

[00:49:09] where I

[00:49:10] mean you

[00:49:10] send

[00:49:10] Castillo's

[00:49:11] money away

[00:49:11] and maybe

[00:49:12] you don't

[00:49:12] get as

[00:49:12] much in

[00:49:13] return

[00:49:13] but that's

[00:49:13] fine

[00:49:13] because

[00:49:14] like they

[00:49:14] said

[00:49:15] their

[00:49:15] reason

[00:49:16] like they

[00:49:17] want to

[00:49:17] get

[00:49:17] better

[00:49:18] for

[00:49:19] in a

[00:49:19] Luis

[00:49:20] Castillo

[00:49:20] trade

[00:49:20] but not

[00:49:21] only do

[00:49:23] more moves

[00:49:24] by trading

[00:49:25] Luis Castillo

[00:49:26] because moving

[00:49:27] money off

[00:49:28] the books

[00:49:28] unless they

[00:49:29] decide to

[00:49:29] eat Castillo's

[00:49:30] money and

[00:49:30] just get a

[00:49:31] bigger return

[00:49:31] back which

[00:49:32] I don't

[00:49:32] think they're

[00:49:33] going to

[00:49:33] do

[00:49:33] the point

[00:49:34] of trading

[00:49:34] Castillo is

[00:49:35] to get his

[00:49:35] dollars off

[00:49:36] the books

[00:49:36] and allow

[00:49:38] yourself

[00:49:38] more flexibility

[00:49:39] than 15

[00:49:40] million dollars

[00:49:41] because if

[00:49:42] you trade

[00:49:42] Castillo

[00:49:43] unfortunately

[00:49:44] you lose

[00:49:44] someone in

[00:49:45] your rotation

[00:49:45] but you have

[00:49:46] a real

[00:49:46] offseason

[00:49:47] budget

[00:49:47] like one

[00:49:48] everyone

[00:49:48] else has

[00:49:51] that's why

[00:49:52] more and

[00:49:52] more again

[00:49:54] do I

[00:49:54] like

[00:49:55] am I

[00:49:55] intrigued

[00:49:56] by the

[00:49:56] Luis

[00:49:56] Castillo

[00:49:57] for

[00:49:57] Tristan

[00:49:57] Costa

[00:49:58] thing

[00:49:58] yes

[00:49:58] somewhat

[00:50:00] but I

[00:50:00] just keep

[00:50:01] thinking about

[00:50:01] Kobe Mayo

[00:50:02] because

[00:50:03] even though

[00:50:04] it's an

[00:50:04] unproven

[00:50:05] guy

[00:50:05] Kobe Mayo

[00:50:06] is not

[00:50:06] going to

[00:50:06] make

[00:50:07] anything

[00:50:07] for the

[00:50:07] next

[00:50:07] three

[00:50:08] years

[00:50:08] and that

[00:50:08] could

[00:50:08] really

[00:50:09] free

[00:50:09] you up

[00:50:09] to do

[00:50:10] some

[00:50:10] things

[00:50:10] because

[00:50:10] if

[00:50:10] you

[00:50:10] traded

[00:50:11] him

[00:50:11] for

[00:50:11] Mayo

[00:50:11] you could

[00:50:12] go sign

[00:50:13] Santander

[00:50:13] you could

[00:50:14] go sign

[00:50:15] Walker

[00:50:15] to play

[00:50:15] first base

[00:50:17] and then

[00:50:18] all of a

[00:50:18] sudden

[00:50:18] that's a

[00:50:19] great

[00:50:19] winner

[00:50:19] you have

[00:50:20] Mayo

[00:50:20] at third

[00:50:20] you have

[00:50:21] Walker

[00:50:21] at first

[00:50:21] you have

[00:50:21] Santander

[00:50:22] DH

[00:50:22] Garver

[00:50:23] is the

[00:50:23] backup

[00:50:23] catcher

[00:50:23] great

[00:50:25] like

[00:50:26] they should

[00:50:26] just get rid

[00:50:26] of Garver's

[00:50:27] money

[00:50:28] no they

[00:50:29] should get

[00:50:29] rid of

[00:50:29] Hanager's

[00:50:30] money

[00:50:30] you still

[00:50:30] need a

[00:50:31] backup

[00:50:31] catcher

[00:50:32] well

[00:50:32] Garver's

[00:50:33] got more

[00:50:33] value

[00:50:34] I don't

[00:50:35] think

[00:50:35] either of

[00:50:36] them have

[00:50:36] real value

[00:50:37] at this

[00:50:37] point

[00:50:37] Davis

[00:50:38] seemed

[00:50:38] to think

[00:50:38] so

[00:50:41] listen

[00:50:42] I guess

[00:50:43] I'm more

[00:50:43] bought on

[00:50:43] the idea

[00:50:44] of Garver

[00:50:44] could bounce

[00:50:45] back to

[00:50:45] some extent

[00:50:46] in 25

[00:50:46] then

[00:50:47] Hanager

[00:50:47] I'm sure

[00:50:48] the Mariners

[00:50:49] think that

[00:50:49] too

[00:50:49] and they

[00:50:50] would use

[00:50:50] that as

[00:50:51] an excuse

[00:50:51] not to

[00:50:52] but regardless

[00:50:53] the whole

[00:50:53] point is

[00:50:54] you could

[00:50:54] throw at

[00:50:54] money

[00:50:55] if you

[00:50:56] wanted to

[00:50:56] you could

[00:50:57] what do you

[00:50:57] think about

[00:50:58] that idea

[00:50:58] because again

[00:50:59] Casas

[00:51:00] is going to

[00:51:01] make some

[00:51:01] arbitration

[00:51:01] money

[00:51:02] some arbitration

[00:51:03] money

[00:51:04] but he's a

[00:51:04] first baseman

[00:51:06] so it's

[00:51:07] limited

[00:51:08] yes

[00:51:09] but

[00:51:10] and I

[00:51:11] will say

[00:51:12] he's not a

[00:51:13] super two

[00:51:13] is he

[00:51:15] I don't

[00:51:15] believe so

[00:51:16] so then

[00:51:17] he's league

[00:51:17] minimum

[00:51:18] when you

[00:51:18] trade for

[00:51:18] him

[00:51:19] I just

[00:51:20] keep

[00:51:20] thinking

[00:51:20] about

[00:51:21] again

[00:51:21] if you

[00:51:21] fill

[00:51:22] first

[00:51:22] via

[00:51:23] the

[00:51:23] Castillo

[00:51:23] trade

[00:51:24] I

[00:51:25] just

[00:51:25] don't

[00:51:26] know

[00:51:26] how

[00:51:26] you're

[00:51:46] do

[00:52:16] But you, in theory, have a third baseman for the next six years whose ceiling can be a 30 to 35 home run player.

[00:52:23] And then all of a sudden you can turn around with a lot more money.

[00:52:27] And there is a world.

[00:52:29] I'm not saying a likely world.

[00:52:31] But if you free up all Castillo's money and get Kobe Mayo back, there is a world where fine.

[00:52:36] Let's say they decide at second base they're going to roll out Cole Young.

[00:52:39] They're going to roll out Ryan Bliss.

[00:52:40] They're going to roll out Dylan Moore.

[00:52:42] But then, with the remaining money they have in their budget, they go sign Christian Walker to play first and Santander to DH.

[00:52:48] And you have the potential of a 30 to 35 home run guy playing third.

[00:52:52] You would be very fired up about that, despite losing Castillo.

[00:52:57] Again, you could.

[00:52:58] But remember with the other two, you still do need to convince people to come play here.

[00:53:02] Trading, you don't have to do that.

[00:53:04] Yeah.

[00:53:05] That is.

[00:53:06] There is still a big, like there's still multiple big ifs.

[00:53:09] As opposed to, if you trade for Tristan Casas, there is nothing Casas can do to stop it.

[00:53:14] He's just going to show up and play.

[00:53:16] Right.

[00:53:17] But, Kobe Mayo, it's like, oh, if Kobe Mayo is ready to play for a full season in 2025, can he hit in T-Mobile Park?

[00:53:24] Is he actually ready for the big leagues?

[00:53:25] Does he need longer?

[00:53:26] And then it's like, oh, can you trade Christian Walker?

[00:53:29] Is Christian Walker actually interested in playing in Seattle?

[00:53:32] You mean Santander.

[00:53:32] Is Anthony Santander, who, by the way, every single rumor out there on Santander, if you look, American League East.

[00:53:38] Every single one.

[00:53:40] He likes hitting in that division, in case you didn't know.

[00:53:42] So, telling him to come all the way out west is a big ask.

[00:53:46] Can, well, two things.

[00:53:48] One, you mean sign Christian Walker, right?

[00:53:49] I think you said trade for.

[00:53:50] Yeah, sign Christian Walker.

[00:53:52] I mean, if they get trade for him, perfect.

[00:53:53] That sounds way better.

[00:53:55] Yeah, he has no choice.

[00:53:57] But, yeah, I mean, it makes sense.

[00:53:59] Santander wants to stay in the AL East.

[00:54:01] All five of those parks are band boxes.

[00:54:03] Well, Toronto's not really a band box, but point being, the AL East is a pretty easy division to hit in.

[00:54:07] Mm-hmm.

[00:54:08] So, that's what the Mariners are up against now.

[00:54:11] So, that's the balance they have to weigh by, do we trade for someone or do we trade and then try and sign for someone?

[00:54:17] That's the nervousness about trading away Castillo and saying, oh, we're just going to replace in free agency.

[00:54:23] There haven't been many hitters who have said they want to come play in Seattle.

[00:54:26] Well, this is probably why you need to make the signings first and then do it.

[00:54:32] Hmm.

[00:54:33] Wow.

[00:54:33] The optics of that.

[00:54:34] Wow.

[00:54:35] Really?

[00:54:36] Well, let me tell you what.

[00:54:38] The sequencing of that, like how things shake out in the offseason, is not going to work in the Mariners' favor if they do that.

[00:54:45] Because if they were to trade Castillo first and then sign somebody, people would see the Castillo trade.

[00:54:50] They'd say, look, it sucks.

[00:54:52] I'm sure we would say what we said on social media and on our last podcast the other day,

[00:54:56] saying the fact they're being forced to do this is a joke.

[00:54:57] They should just sign the bats free of any worry about a budget.

[00:55:01] That is all 100% true.

[00:55:03] There should be no $15 million budget or any ridiculous budget that's been self-imposed.

[00:55:06] Yes.

[00:55:07] But if the Mariners were to trade Castillo and then go sign Christian Walker or Santander,

[00:55:13] people would say, okay, the Castillo trade set this up.

[00:55:16] If the Mariners go sign Walker first and then trade Castillo away,

[00:55:21] oh, you're going to have people real pissed off.

[00:55:23] Even though they would have to clear money, there's air quotes around that for those not watching on YouTube,

[00:55:30] it would look worse because you'd sign Walker.

[00:55:32] You'd have fans saying, wow, this team means business.

[00:55:35] We've got Walker at first.

[00:55:36] We've got this rotation intact.

[00:55:37] And then you trade Luis.

[00:55:40] Optics, baby.

[00:55:41] Yeah.

[00:55:41] Sequencing of that would not be great.

[00:55:43] No.

[00:55:43] No, it would not.

[00:55:45] Big decisions.

[00:55:46] So, unfortunately, I will say you asked me at the end of last episode,

[00:55:51] but do the Mariners make the move by the time we sit down here and record?

[00:55:55] I was wrong.

[00:55:59] I really hope it's coming because, look, I love throwing out...

[00:56:04] You know when it's coming, dog.

[00:56:05] You know when.

[00:56:06] At this time of year, dog, you know when it's going to happen.

[00:56:09] There are two possible or three possible days now where Jerry DiPoto will drop a trade.

[00:56:13] He's going to make a trade on Christmas Eve.

[00:56:15] He's going to make a trade on Christmas Day.

[00:56:18] Or, sorry, four possible days.

[00:56:19] He's going to make a trade at 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

[00:56:23] Or, best case scenario, he's going to make a trade an hour before kickoff of the Peach Bowl on New Year's Day.

[00:56:30] Dude.

[00:56:32] You know, I hope now that you throw those scenarios out there, it's one of the Christmas days, Eve or day.

[00:56:39] Because, well, I'll manage that.

[00:56:42] People will be at home.

[00:56:43] Look, I know Christmas is a time to celebrate with family and stuff, but could we carve out an hour at 2.30 in the afternoon, either on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, to record an emergency 20, 25-minute pod?

[00:56:54] Yes.

[00:56:55] Yes.

[00:56:55] New Year's...

[00:56:56] Dude, if he does it on New Year's Eve, which, one, I'm sure we'll all be planning to do something.

[00:57:01] I mean, probably not here on the podcast, just plan something in general.

[00:57:04] And we're planning to go out or go plan whatever it is we have planned, and he drops a trade 90 minutes before midnight.

[00:57:12] Oh, well, I would be furious if that happened.

[00:57:15] And probably even more so if it happened in Arizona State's first ever playoff game ever.

[00:57:22] Yeah.

[00:57:23] Pick Christmas, not New Year's.

[00:57:25] Put the phone down.

[00:57:27] Yes.

[00:57:27] Go enjoy the holidays.

[00:57:31] Spend time with your family.

[00:57:32] Yes.

[00:57:33] Take that week off, in which case during that week we'll probably be just complaining that there's still no moves that have been made, but we'll still appreciate that it's not going on during Christmas and New Year's.

[00:57:42] So...

[00:57:42] Yeah.

[00:57:43] I hope it happens soon.

[00:57:45] We really need something to happen.

[00:57:46] We do.

[00:57:46] I like throwing out all these hypotheticals.

[00:57:48] I like dreaming on what the Mariners can be, but I want to see what this roster is going to look like already.

[00:57:52] We've been waiting too long.

[00:57:53] I know.

[00:57:54] We're trying.

[00:57:55] We're doing our part.

[00:57:56] Yeah, we are.

[00:57:57] All right.

[00:57:58] I think that just about wraps up this edition of the Marine Layer Podcast.
