00:00 --> 00:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to episode number two, sixty eight of the Marine layer podcast the Mariners finish out the first half strong.
00:05 --> 00:11 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe they get swept against the Yankees and then sweep the Tigers and score thirty five runs.
00:11 --> 00:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can't get a read on this team.

00:42 --> 00:44 [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be over at the hall on Oxidental.
00:44 --> 00:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Little bit of a different format.
00:45 --> 00:46 [SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to be doing a full show.
00:47 --> 00:51 [SPEAKER_00]: We're just going to be hanging out, having some drinks, taking your guys' questions, giving away a bunch of stuff.

00:55 --> 00:57 [SPEAKER_00]: So come on by.
00:57 --> 00:59 [SPEAKER_00]: You'll be walking back from the game anyway.
00:59 --> 01:00 [SPEAKER_00]: You can stop in and hang out with us for a while.

01:04 --> 01:07 [SPEAKER_00]: You can also find us all across social media at Marine Lair pod.
01:08 --> 01:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it rolling.
01:22 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And we welcome each of this episode of the Marine Lair podcast part of the just baseball podcast network recording again here on Sunday evening July thirteen and people were saying this to us loud and I kind of agree with that I think we should do our Julio episode earlier.
01:37 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Next year so he starts turning it around earlier and as a performance like he had against the tigers this weekend and he goes yard and three straight games.
01:46 --> 01:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we're the magic touch.
01:48 --> 01:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Great.
01:49 --> 01:57 [SPEAKER_00]: If we're the magic touch, we should just say in March, Julio's gonna have a six, fifty OPS for the year.
01:58 --> 02:00 [SPEAKER_01]: What's wrong with Julio Rodriguez?
02:00 --> 02:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Guys, it's spring training.
02:02 --> 02:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Can you relax a little bit?
02:04 --> 02:08 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I do think it is a little funny, the timing of that of timing of how that all works out.
02:08 --> 02:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and then subsequently, if we say preseasonal have some six, thirty OPS for the year, we'll go out and hit and have an a thousand OPS.
02:15 --> 02:16 [SPEAKER_00]: So, sure, let's do that.
02:16 --> 02:19 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we're the key to him winning an MVP, but also on front
02:19 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_01]: It's something we didn't even get to talk about in our video episode was that he pulled out of the all-star game at that moment.
02:25 --> 02:38 [SPEAKER_01]: These things that I can't guarantee, I say they they affected how he played in this tiger series because ultimately this road trip showed you how the Mariners are as there they have been in this entire season in consistent hard to get a read on.
02:39 --> 02:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, how about that firestorm on Twitter after Thursday's Yankees game?
02:43 --> 02:45 [SPEAKER_01]: It was a toxic mess on there.
02:46 --> 02:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Anyone of you guys who are listening who are contributing to that?
02:48 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, damn well, it was toxic on there and everyone was arguing from all the sides as well.
02:54 --> 02:58 [SPEAKER_01]: And they go out and then they score thirty five runs against the best team in the American League.
02:58 --> 03:01 [SPEAKER_01]: A team that has kicked their ass for nearly two years.
03:02 --> 03:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And it seems like everything's fixed again.
03:05 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and they faced Eric Scooble in the series.
03:07 --> 03:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Scooble, Mise, and Jack Flarity.
03:09 --> 03:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And they scored thirty five runs.
03:13 --> 03:14 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm out of real heat of these days.
03:15 --> 03:18 [SPEAKER_00]: We had the Julio episode talking about the, you know, the things you struggle with this year.
03:18 --> 03:21 [SPEAKER_00]: And then I essentially guaranteed a loss against Eric Scoobles.
03:23 --> 03:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if you want a little behind the scenes, we were on the flight to Atlanta for all start week during the Terriq School game.
03:30 --> 03:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I actually was watching because I had Wi-Fi on the plane and I was watching the game on Apple TV.
03:35 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_00]: But TJ and I had planned to do some content behind the scenes where we assumed Terriq School was going to go each shot out in that game and TJ was going to get a
03:43 --> 03:46 [SPEAKER_00]: get a recording of me just like walking through the aisle on the plane.
03:46 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I get to his aisle and I start looking at him and just basically start either screaming or pretending like I'm going to scream like just like silently screaming and he was going to tweet out.
03:55 --> 03:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Looking forward to it, land up for all so a week.
03:57 --> 04:03 [SPEAKER_00]: If loud doesn't get us kicked off this plane off the tariff scoob, we'll start or something like that because like I was fully planning for a shout out from tariff scoob.
04:03 --> 04:05 [SPEAKER_00]: But no, the Mariners hit them.
04:05 --> 04:07 [SPEAKER_00]: They've hit them twice now this year.
04:07 --> 04:09 [SPEAKER_00]: And they won the game and scored double digit runs.
04:10 --> 04:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Facebook all really makes no sense.
04:12 --> 04:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Wait way too much of the time.
04:14 --> 04:21 [SPEAKER_00]: How on earth has this team who's had a, you know, who's had a laundry list of offensive issues all year, multiple years now.
04:22 --> 04:25 [SPEAKER_00]: How on earth do they score all these runs against Terrax, Google in multiple starts.
04:25 --> 04:27 [SPEAKER_00]: If scored what seven runs off in this year?
04:27 --> 04:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that sounds right.
04:29 --> 04:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Um, good question.
04:31 --> 04:35 [SPEAKER_01]: And they also beat well, technically they beat a Paul schemes in a game.
04:35 --> 04:36 [SPEAKER_01]: He started.
04:36 --> 04:38 [SPEAKER_01]: They did not score any runs off of him.
04:38 --> 04:41 [SPEAKER_01]: So I guess we just need to roll the Mariners line up out and they'd lay on Tuesday.
04:42 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I guess.
04:43 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I guess.
04:43 --> 04:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they scored thirty five runs low and Cal Rowley only homeworked in one game of the series.
04:49 --> 04:50 [SPEAKER_01]: That is pretty crazy.
04:50 --> 04:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about this situation with Julio for a sec.
04:53 --> 04:56 [SPEAKER_01]: So we has this series against the Tigers, which is awesome to see.
04:56 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Also double again here on Sunday.
04:58 --> 05:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It was, it's really an amazing performance.
05:00 --> 05:03 [SPEAKER_01]: You went up with this home run today here on Sunday.
05:03 --> 05:04 [SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome to see.
05:04 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_01]: It's great to see.
05:05 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't sit here and tell you.
05:08 --> 05:17 [SPEAKER_01]: That Julio took pressure off his shoulders by not going to the all star game and knowing he was going to get to reset and went out there and played sort of a carefree three games.
05:17 --> 05:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't guarantee and say that because I'm sitting there on the clubhouse.
05:20 --> 05:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not on the road in Detroit with the team.
05:23 --> 05:28 [SPEAKER_01]: But hey, if he sat there after that Yankee series and it was like, all right, well, we need to turn some stuff around.
05:29 --> 05:34 [SPEAKER_01]: And this tiger series is a good start to that I'm going to say that's like a really good start to what we can potentially see in the second half with Julio.
05:34 --> 05:36 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have to see it after the break as well.
05:36 --> 05:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not he's not just going to roll into the Astros series and keep on going.
05:41 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_01]: But we've been waiting to see the schoolio for a minute out.
05:43 --> 05:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Even when he was hitting well earlier in the season, he didn't homer in three strike games.
05:47 --> 05:50 [SPEAKER_01]: He's not show the consistent power like this yet this season.
05:50 --> 05:52 [SPEAKER_01]: So this series was a good mark for him.
05:52 --> 05:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And him and Cal could have a moment together over their both slugging together.
05:55 --> 05:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we talk about
05:57 --> 05:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Like what if Julio hits thirty and Cal hit sixty?
06:00 --> 06:05 [SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the most dangerous duos in a lineup ever and it's harder to stop this offense.
06:05 --> 06:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, so I'm going to I'm going to say this with caution because I'm not going to put too much into the Tiger series.
06:12 --> 06:16 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to see how the series against the brewers and the Astros play out because we know this twelve game stretch.
06:17 --> 06:21 [SPEAKER_00]: is a ridiculously tough stretch and maybe the toughest one they'll have all year.
06:21 --> 06:24 [SPEAKER_00]: So I want to see how they come out of the twelve game stretch.
06:24 --> 06:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I think I said five and seven was what I'd like to see them do to at least keep them in good standing to get through the twelve games.
06:31 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_00]: So if they do that, they can essentially just win a game against each of the astros and the brewers, like they'd be in fine standing, hopefully they do more than that.
06:42 --> 06:42 [SPEAKER_00]: But
06:43 --> 06:46 [SPEAKER_00]: If they go five and seven in those twelve games, you're in okay standing.
06:46 --> 06:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Similar to with Julio, we're like, okay, I don't want to just take the three games and say everything's fixed.
06:51 --> 06:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see a bigger sample size of it.
06:53 --> 06:55 [SPEAKER_00]: But I will say this.
06:56 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_00]: If this is real and if this Julio is going to carry into the second half and throughout the second half, all of a sudden people don't want to see this Mariners team.
07:05 --> 07:10 [SPEAKER_00]: If Julio is really going to continue to do this and it's an F because we have to see it for longer.
07:11 --> 07:18 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want any part of the Mariners in the second half, with Cal, with Julio, with guys in the rotation, getting healthy.
07:18 --> 07:20 [SPEAKER_00]: All of a sudden, this team gets pretty terrifying.
07:20 --> 07:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Dude and Randy.
07:21 --> 07:23 [SPEAKER_01]: And Randy just continues to do his thing.
07:24 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get shout out to our man Randy Rosarena, all star.
07:27 --> 07:30 [SPEAKER_01]: This Mariners team has all these all stars.
07:31 --> 07:35 [SPEAKER_01]: They're up there in terms of all star selections for teams.
07:36 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they have five, which is crazy.
07:38 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_00]: They have five all stars.
07:40 --> 07:42 [SPEAKER_00]: And again, it helped the Randy got hot at the right time.
07:42 --> 07:47 [SPEAKER_00]: It's always tough to judge what Randy's gonna be on a given week.
07:48 --> 07:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Because again, Randy gets so hot for short flashes of time where it carries an offense for one to two weeks in those types of stretches.
07:55 --> 08:01 [SPEAKER_00]: But it's like, his seasons are very, like, they can be Luke Rayleigh, ask you a time.
08:01 --> 08:04 [SPEAKER_00]: So we're like, he has a month where he's really hot and then he has a month where he's really cold.
08:04 --> 08:07 [SPEAKER_00]: And it ends up coming out to a productive year every year.
08:09 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's hope, even if Randy's not going to do what he's doing right now throughout the whole second half, let's hope you have a productive second half Randy arose around.
08:16 --> 08:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Because if you do, again, with Julia with Cal with JP,
08:20 --> 08:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Team team looks a lot different if these guys are gonna hit together and at the same time.
08:26 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's start painting a broader picture on this first half.
08:28 --> 08:32 [SPEAKER_01]: So the first half is now officially over with it being the all-star break.
08:32 --> 08:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, if you're sitting here right now and you're thinking, what is my biggest takeaway from what I've seen with this mirror's team in the first half?
08:40 --> 08:40 [SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
08:42 --> 08:43 [SPEAKER_00]: You cannot get a read on them.
08:43 --> 08:46 [SPEAKER_00]: So unbelievably inconsistent.
08:46 --> 08:49 [SPEAKER_00]: There is no better painting of that than what just happened this week.
08:50 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_00]: from blowing that Brian Wu near no hitter on Thursday to sweeping the best team in the American League throughout the weekend after getting swept in the Bronx.
09:02 --> 09:02 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what to do.
09:04 --> 09:10 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to see how these brewers in Astro Series pan out very, very much because I think it's going to tell an even greater picture.
09:11 --> 09:17 [SPEAKER_00]: But I think my takeaway is just they are impossible to get a read on every time, every single time.
09:18 --> 09:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say my number one takeaway is I don't want to say we are right about the rotation because like we did say they were going to regret going into this season, but maybe I'll say this.
09:32 --> 09:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Even if your rotation is talented as any rotation in baseball, it can always be undone based off of how the baseball gods feel about you in a given season.
09:41 --> 09:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Because the Mariners objectively this year still expected to go into this year and have a very good rotation and elite rotation that is and go out there and perform with the best in baseball.
09:51 --> 09:56 [SPEAKER_01]: If you were to tell me right now that all of Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Logan, Gilbert and Brian we were all healthy right now.
09:57 --> 10:01 [SPEAKER_01]: And the Mariners would still be pretty much outside the top ten in rotation production.
10:02 --> 10:02 [SPEAKER_01]: at the break.
10:03 --> 10:05 [SPEAKER_01]: You'd say, all right, well, that doesn't really feel right.
10:05 --> 10:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I've come to realize this season that it just unfortunately doesn't even seem like something you can rely upon on a year to year basis.
10:13 --> 10:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like you'll know pretty early on if your rotation has at that year and you're going to go out there and that's going to be one of the things that can carry you this year.
10:21 --> 10:30 [SPEAKER_01]: The mayor's rotation, again, has been very good this year, but in terms of like what have taken away from the first half, I mean, we tweeted out the stat when we were, when we were heading out on Friday.
10:31 --> 10:39 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners, the Mariners rotation or rotation pitching staff in general is in the bottom third and baseball and they're pitching on the road.
10:39 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_01]: That still has not been fixed and that was also another major storyline of the first half, just the difference of this team home and on the road.
10:46 --> 10:48 [SPEAKER_01]: That ballpark man and ballpark.
10:49 --> 10:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, that's a real issue.
10:50 --> 10:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, after the Yankees series, what do we highlight is the two biggest issues of the team?
10:55 --> 10:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Julio's still not hitting.
10:57 --> 11:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, this was before the Tigers series started and they can't pitch on the road.
11:01 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_00]: They've struggled on the road.
11:03 --> 11:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's hope that turns a little bit in the second half.
11:05 --> 11:07 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to be the best team in baseball and row DRA.
11:08 --> 11:09 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't even have to be in the top five.
11:10 --> 11:17 [SPEAKER_00]: But can we be somewhere like in the twelve range rather than in the bottom third to balance things out a little bit?
11:17 --> 11:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Because that makes a big difference if you are.
11:19 --> 11:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Even if you're leg average on the road and really good at home.
11:22 --> 11:26 [SPEAKER_00]: You just, you can't have constant blow-ups starts on the road.
11:26 --> 11:28 [SPEAKER_00]: You play half your games away from home.
11:28 --> 11:33 [SPEAKER_00]: They've got to find ways to win more games of more consistent quality outings when they're away from Team Over Park.
11:34 --> 11:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I have another one, too.
11:35 --> 11:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Cowrow is a ability to eliminate cold, cold streaks is amazing.
11:39 --> 11:45 [SPEAKER_01]: The what what he has done this year to eliminate those stretches where he goes in and strikes out forty percent of the time, which he had done in the past.
11:46 --> 11:53 [SPEAKER_01]: But this year, every time he steps to the plate and you think he's going to go on a series where he's just not going to perform very well.
11:54 --> 11:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Like this road trip, I fully expected him.
11:56 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_01]: He could potentially not hit a home run that series because they're facing some very good pictures and calcium and so consistent this season.
12:02 --> 12:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, all right, he does that some point need to not hit a home run.
12:07 --> 12:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And then he comes on Friday and he hits two homeruns against the Tigers while we're on the plane, including a grand slam.
12:13 --> 12:15 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, well, I guess he's ready for the Derby now.
12:15 --> 12:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Also, I'm going to just call my shot right here, since we're recording on Sunday.
12:18 --> 12:21 [SPEAKER_01]: The Derby's tomorrow this episode comes out two days after that.
12:22 --> 12:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Cal Raleigh's winning the Derby.
12:23 --> 12:25 [SPEAKER_01]: So you guys can hold me to the fire if that's not true.
12:25 --> 12:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, congratulations to Cal Raleigh in the twenty twenty five home run, Derby winner.
12:29 --> 12:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Club it up for the guy.
12:30 --> 12:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Whoa.
12:32 --> 12:35 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, he does fall one home run short of belly bond sad day.
12:35 --> 12:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I know he didn't quite do it, but that is as ridiculous a first half as as I've ever seen anybody in a Mariners uniform put together absolutely unreal.
12:44 --> 12:49 [SPEAKER_00]: I know there's not that much new or more to say on cow, but as we put a bow on the first half.
12:50 --> 12:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Unreal.
12:51 --> 12:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely unreal.
12:52 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_00]: He is amazing.
12:54 --> 12:54 [SPEAKER_01]: How about this?
12:55 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Next question for you.
12:57 --> 13:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Most important mariner, hitter, starter, and reliever in the second half.
13:02 --> 13:02 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
13:03 --> 13:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I'll fire a question back to you when we get done with this one.
13:05 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_00]: But you want to go non-cowrally, hitter?
13:09 --> 13:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, preferably.
13:11 --> 13:14 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's the answer, Julio, I feel like it has to be.
13:15 --> 13:20 [SPEAKER_01]: You could choose someone like JP Crawford, who continues to be good, but what if you got April, JP Crawford?
13:20 --> 13:22 [SPEAKER_01]: The JP Crawford was a dog.
13:22 --> 13:23 [SPEAKER_01]: He was, he was crushing it.
13:24 --> 13:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I think these last three games just also remind us how different the team is when Julio's hot.
13:30 --> 13:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's not all the time because he's a streak eater too, but when he's hot, man, things are just different.
13:35 --> 13:36 [SPEAKER_00]: It's just different.
13:36 --> 13:44 [SPEAKER_00]: So I'll say Julio at the plate, I'm going to say Logan Gilbert on the mound because he still hasn't thrown six innings since opening
13:44 --> 13:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Day, so they need Logan Gilbert to get back to that very badly and worked deep in the games.
13:49 --> 13:50 [SPEAKER_00]: I know we had the injury.
13:50 --> 13:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I know the Mariners are being cautious with them, which is totally understandable, but he led the league in an innings pitch last year.
13:55 --> 13:58 [SPEAKER_00]: He was a workhorse, just hasn't quite been the same thing this year.
13:58 --> 14:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So I would say Logan Gilbert on the mound, Julio at the plate, and I'll say Matt Brash in the bullpen, because you need guys behind Munoz, and he has been dynamite this year.
14:09 --> 14:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, starting pitcher.
14:11 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_01]: So I can't pick Logan.
14:12 --> 14:16 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, I could, but that's a boring answer.
14:16 --> 14:17 [SPEAKER_01]: How about this?
14:17 --> 14:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go Luis Castillo.
14:18 --> 14:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Think of the difference, a good Luis Castillo, especially on the road, by the way, makes in the second half.
14:23 --> 14:29 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been very good at home this year, but if Luis Castillo does what he does on the road for just two months, you don't need to full season of it.
14:29 --> 14:32 [SPEAKER_01]: You just need two months worth of good road Luis Castillo.
14:32 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Say that's four starts, potentially five starts, depending on how it sequences out.
14:39 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_01]: That would make a huge impact on the team.
14:40 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
14:41 --> 14:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and for context, he is not been good on the road this year.
14:44 --> 14:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Luis, so that's the idea.
14:46 --> 14:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Turn around as road starts.
14:47 --> 14:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like a two, two, homey array in a four, six.
14:52 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Rode array.
14:53 --> 14:53 [SPEAKER_01]: It's up there on the road.
14:54 --> 14:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not great.
14:55 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Hit her.
14:57 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_01]: would it be crazy to say Dom can zone or should I just say Randy.
15:02 --> 15:11 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll say Randy I'll say Randy I'll say Randy because they've spent scoring some runs since Randy has really turned it on here in the last couple of weeks.
15:12 --> 15:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Randy's been a streaky heater hit hitter kind of liqueel he's always been a streaky hitter
15:16 --> 15:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I think the Mariners hope this streak lasts most of this next two months.
15:21 --> 15:27 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think they, they look at the two months stretchy at the middle of last season where he was one of the best hitters in Major League baseball.
15:27 --> 15:31 [SPEAKER_01]: And they can get that kind of stretch out of him down the stretch run of the season.
15:31 --> 15:35 [SPEAKER_01]: So you have Cal, Julio, Randy, JP leading off.
15:35 --> 15:37 [SPEAKER_01]: And you feel a little bit better about yourself.
15:38 --> 15:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Reliever.
15:40 --> 15:40 [SPEAKER_01]: This is tough.
15:41 --> 15:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I almost want to pick someone who's not on the roster right now.
15:44 --> 15:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Like I want to say like I could say BG.
15:47 --> 15:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I'll go with our guy BG because I a braiding Garcia by the way for those who aren't catching onto that.
15:52 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_01]: He's down into coma.
15:53 --> 15:56 [SPEAKER_01]: He's throwing gasoline and
15:57 --> 16:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, shout out to our guys, by the way, at Cessford's Family Barbecue, they're interviewing JJ Weatherhold at the interview segment before the future's game this weekend.
16:06 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_01]: And JJ Weatherhold, who's a slim dunk top prospect in baseball, by the way, top ten pick and last year's MLB draft, said, toughest, that bet I've ever had in the minor leagues against Brandon Garcia.
16:17 --> 16:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Tough guy to hit against.
16:19 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I do think BG's gonna have a roll if they decide on it and I think they will in this bullpen in the second half.
16:25 --> 16:27 [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have to be the ultimate leverage reliever.
16:28 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I need someone I can trust in the sixth inning.
16:30 --> 16:31 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I want right now.
16:31 --> 16:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Maris have three leverage relievers right now.
16:34 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_01]: How will we get someone in the sixth inning who I can confidently say is gonna go out there and get those outs and have some borderline overpowering stuff.
16:42 --> 16:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't need to be Matt Brash, doesn't need to be Gabe, doesn't need to be Andre's.
16:45 --> 16:47 [SPEAKER_01]: But maybe a little bit above some of those other guys.
16:49 --> 16:58 [SPEAKER_00]: If you want a prediction from us, I will say within the next month of this episode coming out, we will see Brandon Garcia in the big leagues.
16:58 --> 16:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe me sooner than that.
16:59 --> 17:01 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's that far away.
17:01 --> 17:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the way he's pitched into coma has been incredibly encouraging.
17:04 --> 17:07 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think we're getting pretty close here to his timeline.
17:07 --> 17:10 [SPEAKER_00]: So I would say by the middle of August,
17:10 --> 17:11 [SPEAKER_00]: We will see Brandon Garcia.
17:11 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_00]: That's my prediction.
17:12 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_00]: When he comes up, yeah, I think he's going to be important because he's got high octane stuff, kid miss bats, got the bowling ball, type of sinker.
17:20 --> 17:22 [SPEAKER_00]: I think he could play a real role.
17:23 --> 17:24 [SPEAKER_01]: And you had a question for me.
17:25 --> 17:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Most surprising or impressive, non-cowrally player in your eyes in the first half.
17:33 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Surprising, impressive, however you want to take it.
17:36 --> 17:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Surprising, impressive.
17:39 --> 17:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
17:41 --> 17:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I'd say Brian will.
17:43 --> 17:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And the ability to take what he had in the final two months of last season, almost stealing your thunder here, you're probably like, damn it.
17:51 --> 17:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Brian was ability to take what he did last year in the final two months and make that not a fluke is very important.
17:58 --> 18:08 [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't just the last two months where Brian was pitching well last year, but he wasn't the longevity bulldog kind of pitcher that he was at the end of the year last year.
18:08 --> 18:20 [SPEAKER_01]: What does he come out here and do this year when he goes out on the mound and he he was the one guy off season who said he did not work on an extra off sweet pitch and I remember you and I were sitting there talking about
18:20 --> 18:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
18:21 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Brian doesn't know his arsenal better than we do.
18:25 --> 18:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't decide to work on another pitch.
18:27 --> 18:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see how it works out.
18:29 --> 18:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Turns out he doesn't really need it right now.
18:32 --> 18:33 [SPEAKER_01]: No, it doesn't really need it at all.
18:33 --> 18:42 [SPEAKER_01]: And he becomes the only pitcher in baseball at the All Star Break to go six innings in every single one of his start to be capped off the first half with the best start of his career.
18:42 --> 18:43 [SPEAKER_01]: He is he's amazing.
18:43 --> 18:46 [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm any top to velocity wise too.
18:46 --> 18:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So that'll be my guy.
18:47 --> 18:49 [SPEAKER_00]: My answer wasn't going to be Brian Woof on a enough.
18:49 --> 18:50 [SPEAKER_00]: You know why?
18:50 --> 18:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Because I knew he was going to be a bulldog this year.
18:53 --> 18:54 [SPEAKER_00]: No, he didn't surprise me.
18:54 --> 18:57 [SPEAKER_00]: We saw what he did in the second half last year and I was totally bought in on that.
18:58 --> 19:00 [SPEAKER_00]: And I fully expected him to go out and do similar things this year.
19:01 --> 19:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Now I didn't know he was going to go six settings every start.
19:04 --> 19:06 [SPEAKER_00]: But I knew there's going to be a bulldog.
19:06 --> 19:06 [SPEAKER_00]: So come on.
19:07 --> 19:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, you know what I'm going to go with for mine, Matt Prash, and it's not because we don't know he's great.
19:13 --> 19:20 [SPEAKER_00]: He is, but sometimes you take for granted when guys come off a Tommy John surgery that is not easy to just
19:20 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_00]: come back and figure it all out again.
19:22 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of guys when they get back from Tommy John.
19:25 --> 19:37 [SPEAKER_00]: They have a year, maybe a year and a half, or they're not the same guy, and it takes them some time to work back into things and they're not the exact same lethal arm that they were before going down with the injury.
19:38 --> 19:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Look at somebody like Walker Bueller.
19:39 --> 19:41 [SPEAKER_00]: He was one of the best pictures in baseball before Tommy John.
19:42 --> 19:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Has it really been the same guy since he got back?
19:44 --> 19:48 [SPEAKER_00]: So you never know what these Tommy John guys, how it's gonna happen when they get back healthy.
19:48 --> 19:50 [SPEAKER_00]: It's basically because Brash's recovery was so fast.
19:50 --> 19:51 [SPEAKER_00]: It was twelve months.
19:52 --> 19:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, since he's been back, this might be the best version of Matt Brash.
19:57 --> 19:59 [SPEAKER_00]: This is the most ERA wise.
19:59 --> 20:02 [SPEAKER_00]: This is as successful as he's been in a mariner uniform.
20:03 --> 20:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So to have that guy returned to exactly who he was in a sense behind Munoz and this bullpen.
20:10 --> 20:16 [SPEAKER_00]: where would they be right now without Matt Prash not just getting back way ahead of schedule, but being just dynamite.
20:17 --> 20:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Make a prediction for the second half as we close this episode out.
20:19 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_01]: By the way, back to full episode on Friday when we talked to Joe Doyle.
20:24 --> 20:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Big prediction.
20:27 --> 20:28 [SPEAKER_00]: The Mariners trade for Ronald Alcuniath.
20:32 --> 20:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, hey, we'll put this out on social media eventually.
20:34 --> 20:40 [SPEAKER_00]: We talked to the, um, to a robot here in in Atlanta at all.
20:40 --> 20:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Star week who had, who was called the Akunia bot and he had an Akunia like sign on the back of his robotic body.
20:48 --> 20:52 [SPEAKER_00]: And I asked, so you still get me a rep in Akunia when he's a mariner.
20:53 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_00]: He didn't say no.
20:54 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_00]: That's all.
20:54 --> 20:55 [SPEAKER_00]: That's all.
20:55 --> 20:55 [SPEAKER_00]: That's all spoil.
20:56 --> 20:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
20:58 --> 21:04 [SPEAKER_01]: My prediction is Harry Ford is still going to be in a Mariners uniform on August first.
21:04 --> 21:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Deadline's on thirty first.
21:06 --> 21:09 [SPEAKER_01]: August first, Harry Ford is still going to be a Mariners.
21:10 --> 21:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners could go out and trade somebody else, I think.
21:12 --> 21:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I think, look at this and say, this is a good situation to think about for a little bit longer as opposed to, as opposed to making a quick decision based off who they just drafted on Sunday.
21:26 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
21:26 --> 21:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I like that one last note from Sunday, by the way.
21:29 --> 21:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I do.
21:30 --> 21:41 [SPEAKER_00]: On Sunday's episode, or on Monday's episode, we talked about the draft and we were talking about the three picks, Kate Anderson, Luke Stevenson, Nick Becker, how did I not lead off with this?
21:41 --> 21:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Luke Stevenson makes, fifteen hundred PB and J's a year, dude.
21:49 --> 21:50 [SPEAKER_00]: We're about to be best friends.
21:50 --> 21:51 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm already calling it.
21:51 --> 21:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Like him and I are about to absolutely vibe.
21:54 --> 21:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm calling it right now.
21:55 --> 21:59 [SPEAKER_00]: That is the easiest conversation starter I've ever had with any person.
21:59 --> 22:01 [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just waiting to use it when I eventually meet him.
22:02 --> 22:07 [SPEAKER_01]: He said one PB and J. Sandwich for every three episodes.
22:07 --> 22:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Is that sound like something you could do?
22:10 --> 22:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Short answer.
22:11 --> 22:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
22:12 --> 22:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I would, you know what, if I had taken Luke Stevenson's advice and I had taken his route and had one PB and J every three of bats, I'd be in big leagues right now.
22:27 --> 22:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's anything else to wrap up from Sunday.
22:29 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_01]: We're looking forward to getting back to the full episodes coming out on Friday.
22:32 --> 22:34 [SPEAKER_01]: It's been a long weekend for us.
22:34 --> 22:36 [SPEAKER_01]: It'll be a longer next couple of days as the home run.
22:36 --> 22:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Derby's coming up tomorrow on Monday as a recording on Tuesday with the all-star game cow will be featured heavily in both.
22:44 --> 22:46 [SPEAKER_01]: of the home run on Tuesday.
22:47 --> 22:48 [SPEAKER_01]: That could be a whole bunch of fun.
22:48 --> 22:51 [SPEAKER_01]: We look forward to getting back to you guys in full on Friday.
22:51 --> 22:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And a reminder, our next live shows coming up this Friday at the Hall on ox dental.
22:55 --> 22:57 [SPEAKER_01]: It'll be post game Mariners Astros.
22:57 --> 22:57 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a
23:00 --> 23:13 [SPEAKER_01]: shortly after the game ends whenever the people start flowing through there at the Hallenox Dental come get some Corona stuff come hang out have a couple of drinks it's going to be an absolute last there at the Hallenox Dental this Friday after the game against the Astros that'll be fun see you guys then
23:14 --> 23:18 [SPEAKER_00]: I've got one more real second half prediction.
23:18 --> 23:22 [SPEAKER_00]: But I'll do that after a quick pause when he talks to you guys about our friends over at Pagotch's Puppet E-five.
23:23 --> 23:24 [SPEAKER_00]: That's over in Kirkland.
23:24 --> 23:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Awesome spot to hang out.
23:25 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_00]: You guys know, it's really cool neighborhood borrow over in Kirkland.
23:29 --> 23:30 [SPEAKER_00]: They've got great food and bar in restaurant.
23:31 --> 23:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Great food.
23:31 --> 23:33 [SPEAKER_00]: There's games like pool and darts.
23:33 --> 23:36 [SPEAKER_00]: There's twenty TVs, so all the sports doing you could imagine.
23:36 --> 23:41 [SPEAKER_00]: You can hang out over there and watch a bunch of games with your friends, with family, whoever.
23:41 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_00]: And if you go during happy hour, there's awesome drink specials that are three and four bucks from two to six p.m.
23:46 --> 23:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Monday through Friday, three and four dollar drinks.
23:48 --> 23:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Those are awesome deals.
23:49 --> 23:52 [SPEAKER_00]: That's Pagaches, Pum, eight, five over in Kirkland.
23:52 --> 23:56 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, more of a real second half prediction if we're going to stick on the trade deadline.
23:57 --> 23:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Gino comes back.
23:58 --> 24:02 [SPEAKER_00]: That's that's my somewhat bold not quite wrong leukemia prediction.
24:03 --> 24:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Gino's back.
24:04 --> 24:04 [SPEAKER_00]: And that'd be sick.
24:05 --> 24:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Talk about the vibes in that clubhouse.
24:07 --> 24:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Now we'll note the source here, but Bob Knight and Gil did report on Sunday that the dynamics would be selling.
24:13 --> 24:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He essentially listed off every notable diamond back that could be sold would be available at the deadline.
24:18 --> 24:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my case and said,
24:20 --> 24:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Some other things earlier in this month, but it does kind of seem like the dynamics will make those guys available.
24:26 --> 24:32 [SPEAKER_01]: So whether it's genome, whether it's Josh Nailer, they could go try and trade for a bullpin arm from Arizona too.
24:32 --> 24:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
24:32 --> 24:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I do think those guys are available.
24:34 --> 24:43 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners should, I'm going to say this again, should be able to outbid any team in Major League Baseball for a player if they want one.
24:44 --> 24:45 [SPEAKER_01]: I hope they go out and get it.
24:46 --> 24:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, if I now in a couple of weeks, now that the draft is over, it's trade deadline season.
24:52 --> 24:57 [SPEAKER_00]: People like the draft takes up every front office is times so much of it.
24:57 --> 25:00 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why trades don't happen that much anymore early.
25:00 --> 25:02 [SPEAKER_00]: There's just not time for it.
25:02 --> 25:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Now the next two weeks buckle up because it's going to start and let's hope the Mariners are the forefront of a lot of these trades because there's real upgrades I need and I hope they make them.
25:10 --> 25:11 [SPEAKER_00]: So I can't wait.
25:12 --> 25:15 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, that just about wraps up this edition of the Marine Layer Podcast.
