00:00 --> 00:20 [SPEAKER_02]: But when episode number 299 of the Marine Layer podcast for the first time ever we are sitting down and recording an episode in which the murders have clinched a playoff spot, what a feeling will break it all down, what happened on Tuesday night, the celebration, the clinching scenario is going forward and what to look out for the rest of the week.

00:41 --> 00:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it rolling.
00:56 --> 01:14 [SPEAKER_02]: And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer podcast, part of the just baseball podcast network, recording on Tuesday evening, September 23rd, the Mariners are playoffbound and it took us like 200 and 99 episodes to get here.
01:14 --> 01:15 [SPEAKER_02]: How are we feeling?
01:15 --> 01:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Woo!
01:23 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_02]: The only thing I'm missing right now is a bottle of champagne and goggles with the problem is I'm not a multimillion dollar athlete or the organization that can just buy it by the hundreds of bottles.
01:37 --> 01:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I know they had extra because they're saving some for tomorrow as well or Wednesday when this comes out.
01:42 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm wondering how they're going to stack these celebrations.
01:45 --> 01:47 [SPEAKER_02]: They're talking about a little bit on the broadcast.
01:47 --> 01:49 [SPEAKER_02]: You're going to clinch on Tuesday.
01:50 --> 01:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Then you might win the division on Wednesday and then you clinch a buy on Thursday.
01:55 --> 01:56 [SPEAKER_02]: How do you stagger those out?
01:57 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I like it better when there's one celebration.
02:00 --> 02:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like it better when there's one celebration because more
02:06 --> 02:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Job's not finished yet.
02:08 --> 02:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's take a minute to appreciate what we just watched tonight because for 21 whole years, you, me, all our good friends, all our family, every fan we've interacted with since starting this podcast, every fan that associates themselves with the Seattle Mariners had to go 21 entire years.
02:29 --> 02:33 [SPEAKER_01]: without seeing a single postseason game to 21 years.
02:33 --> 02:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I remember doing the math on this for how many days that was.
02:37 --> 02:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, roughly that's 7 days at a couple extra leap years, it's more.
02:41 --> 02:42 [SPEAKER_01]: 76 hundred days, we once went.
02:48 --> 02:54 [SPEAKER_01]: So when things like this happen and they get back into the postseason, cherish every second of it.
02:54 --> 02:56 [SPEAKER_01]: You don't get this every year.
02:56 --> 02:57 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners sure is held.
02:57 --> 02:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't get this every year.
02:59 --> 03:08 [SPEAKER_01]: We went our whole childhood and junior high high school college post college before kindergarten even started all that time seeing no playoff games.
03:08 --> 03:10 [SPEAKER_01]: People in our generation.
03:11 --> 03:12 [SPEAKER_01]: People in our age group.
03:13 --> 03:21 [SPEAKER_01]: anywhere close to us went from their first day of kindergarten till their last day of college without seeing a single mayor and a playoff game and it's stretched even further than that.
03:21 --> 03:35 [SPEAKER_01]: So when they do this cherish it the job is not done and I think there's more celebrations on hand coming this week cherish this thing because you don't ever want to go back to what we endured for a long time.
03:36 --> 03:37 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd say I'm cherishing it.
03:37 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_02]: I had to pinch myself a little bit.
03:39 --> 03:45 [SPEAKER_02]: It didn't set in until after Josh Taylor whacked that double and then I'm it's circulating in my brain a little bit.
03:46 --> 03:49 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, okay, now the feeling is sort of starting to come back.
03:50 --> 03:53 [SPEAKER_02]: But I will say, it does feel different than 2022.
03:53 --> 03:54 [SPEAKER_02]: You would agree with that.
03:54 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_02]: I texted you this.
03:55 --> 03:57 [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about this before we started recording.
03:57 --> 04:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I said, like, I almost cried in 2022 when they made the playoffs.
04:02 --> 04:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Now like they clenched, I feel incredibly happy.
04:05 --> 04:08 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm very excited that they're going to be playing playoff baseball this year.
04:08 --> 04:14 [SPEAKER_02]: They certainly deserve it based on how they played the last handful of weeks to close the thing out strong.
04:15 --> 04:17 [SPEAKER_02]: But that feeling, maybe this is normal for baseball fans.
04:17 --> 04:18 [SPEAKER_02]: This is what fans of,
04:19 --> 04:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Normal franchises go through where they're like, oh, we clinch the postseason.
04:23 --> 04:36 [SPEAKER_02]: This is very happy But like this happens more than every 20 years So I don't need to cry every time we make the playoffs and if you do by the way if you listen to this and you cry every time they make the playoffs You're got you guys are the best you're great.
04:36 --> 04:42 [SPEAKER_02]: That means you care that much more and that's that's the best part of that But I can't be the only person you thought this right?
04:43 --> 04:44 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I think that's right.
04:45 --> 04:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I think the vision here in 2025 is
04:48 --> 04:51 [SPEAKER_01]: great start, cherish it, you deserve it.
04:51 --> 04:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Job's not finished.
04:53 --> 04:53 [SPEAKER_01]: That's simple.
04:54 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Job's is also because we have higher expectations of this team than we did in 22.
05:00 --> 05:01 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a good question.
05:01 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like the 2022 team had expectations.
05:05 --> 05:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I think there was a lot of thought that had the, they had, they not run into the Astros or had they even found a way to make it out of that round against the Astros.
05:12 --> 05:13 [SPEAKER_01]: They could have won it that year.
05:13 --> 05:15 [SPEAKER_01]: That Yankees team in 22 wasn't that good.
05:15 --> 05:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Philly's were good, but you just don't know how that'll shape up in a world series.
05:20 --> 05:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that team had expectation.
05:23 --> 05:29 [SPEAKER_01]: It did not have the expectation of this team, especially because they're now just a magic number
05:30 --> 05:34 [SPEAKER_01]: essentially two away from clinching the two seed in the American League.
05:35 --> 05:44 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners look, when they clinched in 22, it was a whole freaking party throughout the city of Seattle, just to make the playoffs and it should have been.
05:45 --> 05:47 [SPEAKER_01]: You also knew you weren't winning the West that year.
05:47 --> 05:51 [SPEAKER_01]: The Astros were so good, they were so far ahead, that was the mountain top of the regular season.
05:52 --> 05:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that's not the mountain top.
05:54 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Right now, you know there's more to do, there's a higher ceiling to accomplish and that it is not all about just sneaking into a wildcard.
06:03 --> 06:11 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I think the team knows, and I think all the fans know that this is not the end all, be all even of the regular season.
06:14 --> 06:34 [SPEAKER_02]: off the competition aspect of this you look at this playoff field right now and we've said for months now that if the mariners with this version of the roster get in you feel pretty confident about their chances to make the world series because you just look at the weaknesses of of them selves their weaknesses for everyone else's weaknesses and you say I think they stack up pretty well.
06:35 --> 06:40 [SPEAKER_02]: say what you well about that Yankees team in 2022 or the guardians who won the the central that year.
06:41 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_02]: You looked at that 2022 playoff field.
06:43 --> 06:46 [SPEAKER_02]: It was an uphill battle even from the start.
06:46 --> 06:50 [SPEAKER_02]: People weren't even giving them a chance against the blue jays in that first series.
06:50 --> 07:03 [SPEAKER_02]: That was also a really good blue jays series with Kevin Gosman in a really really really good and young blue jays lineup, but the Mariners happened to catch fire and beat them in their own house in the wild card series and then unfortunately ran into the Astros and got swept.
07:04 --> 07:17 [SPEAKER_02]: This year again, based on all of these teams are playing, like you feel like you'd be favored against almost every team in this playoff field until you make it to the world series, and that's what makes
07:18 --> 07:43 [SPEAKER_02]: just clenching the playoffs you're like as you said we're expecting more from this now so the celebrations fun but you saw the guys in the clubhouse too they had their 30 seconds of like intense champagne showering and then everyone's just sort of milling around and having fun and dumping beer on people's heads as they're getting interviewed or dumping it down their shirts and just smiling and but just kind of casually like milling around.
07:44 --> 07:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't this insane celebration because I think the Mariners think the same thing we do when they look at this.
07:51 --> 07:51 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
07:52 --> 07:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Higher expectations field that's much more wide open.
07:56 --> 08:01 [SPEAKER_01]: You want a perfect encapsulation of why this field is wide open in the American League.
08:01 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Let me read you something and I'll let you and everybody listening try to interpret what it is.
08:05 --> 08:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Are you ready?
08:06 --> 08:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
08:08 --> 08:10 [SPEAKER_01]: No positive spin for me folks.
08:10 --> 08:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm a broken man fucking embarrassment on all levels.
08:13 --> 08:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Good night I think you're trying to play it trick question on me here.
08:19 --> 08:21 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna guess.
08:21 --> 08:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm gonna be right on this is this friend of the podcast Johnny junta
08:25 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_01]: That is Johnny Junter regarding the number one seeded Toronto Blue Jays who are not playing good baseball in their own right now, and he is furious, Blue Jays fans are pissed.
08:37 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the Mariners are going to end up getting the number one seed, because the Blue Jays have created a little bit of gap, not impossible, but I don't think they're going to do it.
08:44 --> 08:49 [SPEAKER_01]: But that does just describe where the American League field is at.
08:49 --> 08:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It is so wide open that the number one seed thinks they're playing horseship baseball.
08:54 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll get to the standings at towards the end of the episode, but I'll tell you what, the gap is closing with that number one scene.
09:02 --> 09:08 [SPEAKER_02]: It's still not likely as we talked about on Monday's episode, but as of right now after they went here on Tuesday night,
09:09 --> 09:13 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a two game lead for that number one seed.
09:13 --> 09:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, there's a tiebreaker, but in the standings, it's two games, right?
09:17 --> 09:19 [SPEAKER_01]: It's really great, but yes, it is really three.
09:19 --> 09:24 [SPEAKER_02]: So you need to make up you need to make up three games in three games in the remaining five.
09:25 --> 09:25 [SPEAKER_01]: You need to be possible.
09:25 --> 09:27 [SPEAKER_01]: You need to make up four, right?
09:27 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Because they don't have the tiebreaker.
09:29 --> 09:32 [SPEAKER_02]: No, the Mariners only trail the Blue Jays by two right now.
09:32 --> 09:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, right, all right, so they have to make up three games.
09:34 --> 09:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, three and five.
09:35 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, let me read you one more Johnny tweet because he sits here tonight saying team is making Mickey Mouse mistakes now I have to shake ass for the fucking white socks pathetic
09:48 --> 10:17 [SPEAKER_02]: One more Johnny Junto won today while we're on the topic of the blue jays happy three-year almost three-year anniversary lile to that alachmanoa tweet or the alachmanoa sound bite before his start with the mariners in the playoffs where he says he says pressure is something you put in in your tires to watch the mariners then went out and beat him in that wild card series alachmanoa got dfa today by the blue jays what a ride
10:18 --> 10:23 [SPEAKER_02]: That's exactly what I tweeted what a ride Johnny had a really good one on that.
10:23 --> 10:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna It's fine.
10:24 --> 10:27 [SPEAKER_01]: He said getting DFA to something you put in tires, right?
10:27 --> 10:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what a time.
10:33 --> 10:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let me say this
10:36 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_01]: because we're talking about the standings a little bit, we're talking about the celebration, the game itself did it not feel a little bit like the 2022 game that they had to clinch.
10:46 --> 10:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, think about this, you are playing a dog shit team with nothing to play for.
10:52 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_01]: The 2022 A's and the 2025 Rockies, near each other in a lot of ways, just absolute bottom of the barrel, embarrassment of baseball teams.
11:03 --> 11:04 [SPEAKER_01]: that the mariners are going up against.
11:05 --> 11:10 [SPEAKER_01]: And the first seven ish innings are pretty flat.
11:10 --> 11:16 [SPEAKER_01]: That was the case in 2022 considering Logan absolutely dealt for eight innings.
11:16 --> 11:18 [SPEAKER_01]: And the mariners didn't have a lot of run supporting that one.
11:19 --> 11:23 [SPEAKER_01]: And then tonight against the rockies, they had a Dom Canzone home run and aside from that go into the eighth inning.
11:23 --> 11:26 [SPEAKER_01]: They had one run against the guy with a nine ERA.
11:28 --> 11:32 [SPEAKER_02]: The vibes entering the game for both sides I think were a little bit different.
11:33 --> 11:36 [SPEAKER_02]: That 2022 team stumbled to the finish line.
11:36 --> 11:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Like they got in.
11:38 --> 11:42 [SPEAKER_02]: But they really stumbled to that finish line before clenching.
11:42 --> 11:44 [SPEAKER_02]: But they ended up clenching, which is all that really all that mattered.
11:45 --> 11:55 [SPEAKER_02]: This team has had the best couple of weeks, probably two of the best weeks they've had in franchise history entering this game.
11:55 --> 11:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Once the game's actually start, yeah, I definitely agree.
11:59 --> 12:03 [SPEAKER_02]: A McCabe Brown, the guy who started tonight, ERA over nine, as you said.
12:04 --> 12:06 [SPEAKER_02]: His career high in strikeouts before today.
12:08 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_02]: was four struck out ten mariners that curve ball he had today was it was working but and the mariners could not they they could not figure it out at all and he had not gotten even close they don't think to to a five inning start this year let me double I had it I had this pulled out would see I don't think I don't think he had gotten close to to five well he went for an
12:36 --> 12:48 [SPEAKER_02]: It was not good what the Mariners did against McApron and then like the other guys in the rocky's bullpen as well, they've often just did not look flat, but of course You had to come up with all the reliable and both of these instances in 2022 and 2025
12:51 --> 12:55 [SPEAKER_02]: The guys who are one of the keys of the season comes up in a huge moment.
12:56 --> 13:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Shadow Josh Nailer tonight, the at-bats throughout the game were not good.
13:01 --> 13:07 [SPEAKER_02]: And the Mariners, honestly when they loaded the bases in the eighth inning, tonight, like the Rockies just kind of gave them the bases loaded.
13:07 --> 13:13 [SPEAKER_02]: The Mariners didn't hit their way to the bases loaded, but Josh Nailer came up and he put one in the gap.
13:13 --> 13:15 [SPEAKER_02]: And really that's all you need against a team like this bad.
13:17 --> 13:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He's awesome.
13:18 --> 13:21 [SPEAKER_01]: It really is amazing how fast he's captured the city of Seattle.
13:22 --> 13:23 [SPEAKER_01]: And let me say this.
13:24 --> 13:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, two things.
13:25 --> 13:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Number one, how cool was it to finally see some of that Josh Nailer emotion?
13:30 --> 13:31 [SPEAKER_01]: We hadn't gotten to see a lot of it.
13:31 --> 13:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He kept it internal.
13:33 --> 13:34 [SPEAKER_01]: But oh, you saw it tonight.
13:34 --> 13:36 [SPEAKER_01]: There was one other moment where you saw a little bit of it.
13:37 --> 13:39 [SPEAKER_01]: One or two other moments where it's broken out a little.
13:39 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_01]: That was a big one.
13:40 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, gets the second base massive circular fist pump into the air screaming like that's the Josh Nailer.
13:48 --> 13:49 [SPEAKER_01]: I've been waiting to see and we saw it.
13:50 --> 13:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Even on a softer note after the game, while they're in the high-five line, he has the biggest smile on his face I've ever seen.
13:57 --> 13:59 [SPEAKER_02]: He was... She's in it up.
13:59 --> 14:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Of course, once Angie got over to interview him on the Rupos game, the smile was completely gone.
14:04 --> 14:07 [SPEAKER_02]: But you could hear a little bit of the emotion in his voice.
14:08 --> 14:30 [SPEAKER_02]: when he's talking about making the playoffs and coming through in a big moment how much he likes playing here and then Bryce Miller goes on root sports in the clubhouse after the game and says they need to extend that man and you know price I agree every party here has advocated for Josh Miller to stay for for Josh Taylor to stay in Seattle for the long term.
14:31 --> 14:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what else you need.
14:32 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Like we've talked about the baseball aspect, the human aspect too of how much people like him and what he does for this team.
14:39 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_02]: I think says it all, man.
14:41 --> 14:44 [SPEAKER_02]: 70-year contractor friend Jo Doyle put out sounds good to me.
14:49 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_01]: then people are gonna feel the wrath of the Marine Lairpot.
14:52 --> 14:53 [SPEAKER_01]: It's that pretty, it's, it's that simple.
14:54 --> 14:56 [SPEAKER_01]: They don't bring Josh Nailer back for the foreseeable future.
14:56 --> 14:58 [SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna raise hell on this pod.
14:58 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I can promise you that, because there are zero.
15:01 --> 15:05 [SPEAKER_01]: And I repeat, zero excuses to not get that done.
15:05 --> 15:12 [SPEAKER_01]: He is beloved, he is a hard worker, he loves hitting in Seattle, he loves the fans, he's gonna be somewhat cost-efficient.
15:13 --> 15:16 [SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, you don't have another first basement.
15:16 --> 15:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't exist in your organization.
15:19 --> 15:24 [SPEAKER_01]: So you are going to have to find a reliable first basement in 2026 in some capacity.
15:24 --> 15:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Might as well be the guy who loves being here, thrives in this ballpark, thrives in that clubhouse, and by all accounts would be happy to stay.
15:32 --> 15:34 [SPEAKER_01]: They don't get that done again.
15:34 --> 15:36 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to raise hell.
15:36 --> 15:37 [SPEAKER_02]: We are going to raise hell.
15:38 --> 15:40 [SPEAKER_02]: There was one other great moment before they got into the clubhouse.
15:40 --> 15:54 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd love to ask you what you thought of everything that went on in the clubhouse and what your takeaways were from that But before they got in the clubhouse, of course Cal had something to say as well He he he he let one slip would you like to put it up to the mic for everybody?
15:54 --> 15:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I am going to yeah, I just have to play Yeah
16:04 --> 16:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Whoo, does that fire you up that fires me up?
16:06 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
16:07 --> 16:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and you know Cal felt a little weird about dropping an F bomb in public and front all these fans like you wanted to do it, but you could tell he still felt a little weird because
16:18 --> 16:20 [SPEAKER_01]: You could tell there's a little nervousness in his voice.
16:20 --> 16:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Just a little nervousness because as soon as he got shot, I do this Like like listen again.
16:25 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He said, let's go in the whole fucking thing Like I just really did that.
16:33 --> 16:35 [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't just a confident fuck.
16:35 --> 16:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you see that cow I had no nervous laugh after dropping an F bomb and he wasn't drunk enough yet.
16:41 --> 16:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, probably he probably was not drunk enough yet, but
16:43 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_01]: There was a little bit of a nervous lab where he felt he was a little conflicted on if you really wanted to do that or not.
16:49 --> 16:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And the the right side of his brain one because they said the right side being the one to drop the F on because he's like all right we're just going to do it.
16:57 --> 17:07 [SPEAKER_02]: So then they go on the clubhouse and everyone's celebrating, like they said about a 50% celebration that was great, Dan showed some emotion, which was nice to see.
17:07 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_02]: He's seen pretty fired up, everyone else seen pretty fired up around him.
17:12 --> 17:14 [SPEAKER_02]: What else stood out to you?
17:14 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_01]: That one was big.
17:16 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know Dan Wilson had that in him.
17:18 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, better late than ever.
17:20 --> 17:23 [SPEAKER_01]: It's nobody, I mean, nobody's ever seen it publicly.
17:23 --> 17:25 [SPEAKER_01]: So that was like a, that was a first.
17:25 --> 17:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he did a more as a player.
17:27 --> 17:27 [SPEAKER_01]: And we just don't remember.
17:28 --> 17:31 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't really have vivid memories of Dan Wilson being the RAW RAW guy.
17:32 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_01]: But first time we've seen it as a manager, that's for sure.
17:35 --> 17:36 [SPEAKER_01]: So that was cool.
17:36 --> 17:41 [SPEAKER_02]: And you don't even need to be a RAW RAW guy to give like a celebration speech.
17:41 --> 17:42 [SPEAKER_02]: She was a really a speech.
17:42 --> 17:43 [SPEAKER_02]: She was a few words in the clubhouse.
17:44 --> 17:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone's just waiting to spray champagne on each other.
17:48 --> 18:13 [SPEAKER_02]: goodness what else will brine loose seems perfectly okay walking around so that was good we'll talk about him in a second um... harryford looked like he was having a great time did imagine the ride that harryford's been on this month i mean he gets called up he's had like four bats it's like yeah i get the pop champagne a big league clubhouse yeah uh... what up am i missing anything
18:14 --> 18:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Bryce Miller got asked about getting hit on his ass earlier in the game because he got hit on the backside with a rapid comebacker, which looks like it hurt.
18:23 --> 18:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Thank God, it hit him where it did because that is the right place to get hit if you're going to get hit by a comebacker.
18:28 --> 18:31 [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, it's fine right now, we're celebrating.
18:31 --> 18:32 [SPEAKER_01]: That was fine.
18:32 --> 18:36 [SPEAKER_01]: He said, he said tomorrow, I'll probably feel at a K on Wednesday, but
18:36 --> 18:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he's okay.
18:37 --> 18:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's good.
18:38 --> 18:39 [SPEAKER_02]: He gets a rest before his next start.
18:39 --> 18:40 [SPEAKER_02]: It'll wear off.
18:41 --> 18:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Jerry looked like he was getting in on the action, which was fun.
18:43 --> 18:45 [SPEAKER_02]: His hair was soaked in champagne.
18:45 --> 18:48 [SPEAKER_02]: He interviewed with with hyphen after the game.
18:48 --> 18:50 [SPEAKER_02]: He seemed like he was in a good mood, which was great.
18:51 --> 18:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Jerry deserves his credit.
18:52 --> 18:54 [SPEAKER_02]: This is his team, his roster that he built.
18:54 --> 18:59 [SPEAKER_02]: And here in your 10, as we said, it's time to put up for a shot up, and he definitely put up this year.
19:00 --> 19:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the team that is as good as anyone he's ever had.
19:03 --> 19:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
19:04 --> 19:07 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a good that's a positive yeah Justin was in there too same thing.
19:07 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_01]: He was all There like saw some photos of him celebrating him and Jerry were together somewhere Which yeah, you're right like it wasn't it was not smooth it was not perfect the whole year But what this team's done in the last two months is exactly what everybody's asked for for a long time This type of roster
19:23 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I forgot my favorite moment.
19:24 --> 19:34 [SPEAKER_02]: It was Pete Woodworth and Christopher and a grown walking out to the bullpen, drink in one hand, cigars and other Negron was wearing this vest that was too big for him.
19:34 --> 19:36 [SPEAKER_02]: No shirt underneath just the vest.
19:37 --> 19:42 [SPEAKER_02]: What he was wearing a basketball jersey That was pretty funny.
19:42 --> 19:43 [SPEAKER_02]: They're just chillin.
19:43 --> 19:43 [SPEAKER_02]: There's walking out.
19:43 --> 19:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I think there's still fans in the pen.
19:45 --> 19:48 [SPEAKER_02]: They're gonna go celebrate with mm-hmm Yeah, very cool
19:48 --> 19:50 [SPEAKER_01]: There were a few people that were actually decently composed.
19:50 --> 19:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say, Polo seemed pretty composed the whole time, which fits his bill.
19:56 --> 20:00 [SPEAKER_01]: He's a pretty chill, you know, level guy.
20:00 --> 20:03 [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't get too high or too low, at least that's how it always seems.
20:03 --> 20:05 [SPEAKER_01]: So like, and he's gotten to celebrate a few times.
20:06 --> 20:06 [SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
20:07 --> 20:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Look, I hate a lot of this family there, too.
20:09 --> 20:10 [SPEAKER_01]: So that could have been part of it.
20:10 --> 20:12 [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it was, it was a cool scene.
20:12 --> 20:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we're missing any crazy.
20:15 --> 20:17 [SPEAKER_01]: moments from the postseason celebration.
20:17 --> 20:18 [SPEAKER_01]: No one really threw down tonight.
20:18 --> 20:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute.
20:20 --> 20:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we are.
20:20 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't in the clubhouse.
20:23 --> 20:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Trent Thornton.
20:24 --> 20:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, certainly the faces on his scooter.
20:28 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, then they play the home run Thornton horn when he gets to home play.
20:32 --> 20:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, he's retired out.
20:35 --> 20:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just glad he didn't fall up that scooter because I would imagine if he's going as fast as he was going on that scooter and he falls off Like that's really got to hurt your killies.
20:43 --> 20:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Like really hurt him.
20:46 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_02]: I know Yeah, he was having a blast so after that jersey gets hung up in the bullpen They he got to he certainly was there.
20:54 --> 21:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I got to celebrate as well, which I'm sure he was very happy to do Because they made it they did it here we are
21:04 --> 21:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I guess the only thing I can think of, which is on a total personal level, not that it's of some great significance of the whole fan base, but I guess I wish Logan Evans had gotten to be there to celebrate, but he's into calmness still throwing, so he's down in Vegas for the playoffs, so he wasn't there.
21:18 --> 21:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I will say I'm very happy for our Emerson Hancock who had a big smile on his face as he was grabbing a bottle of champagne.
21:24 --> 21:25 [SPEAKER_01]: That was cool.
21:25 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_02]: That was very cool.
21:26 --> 21:27 [SPEAKER_02]: That was super cool.
21:27 --> 21:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
21:28 --> 21:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it does it for the, I think that's about it for the celebration.
21:32 --> 21:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Overall, now that once they won on Sunday, we're expecting this to happen, still feels as good as you would imagine it is.
21:41 --> 21:42 [SPEAKER_02]: They're, they're in the playoffs.
21:42 --> 21:54 [SPEAKER_02]: We get the watch this team play play out baseball and for us as a podcast, we get to talk about play out baseball, which is incredibly fun for the first time, three full seasons now we get to do it for the first time.
21:54 --> 22:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know when we started this pod we thought it was going to be the perfect time because Marinor baseball was as popular as it had ever been in our lifetime because they had a team that was really fun that just come off a playoff appearance and we're like great.
22:04 --> 22:08 [SPEAKER_01]: We talked about starting this podcast for a long time, even all the way back to our college jays.
22:08 --> 22:09 [SPEAKER_01]: We finally put it into gear.
22:10 --> 22:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And we're like, yeah, this is about the time to do it.
22:12 --> 22:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And then this is Playhouse in 23.
22:13 --> 22:16 [SPEAKER_01]: This is Playhouse in 24.
22:16 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_01]: There was a bunch of off-fields.
22:18 --> 22:21 [SPEAKER_01]: So, Man takes it took place in those two years two that we had to sit through.
22:21 --> 22:24 [SPEAKER_01]: But no, now like, this is the fun stuff.
22:24 --> 22:25 [SPEAKER_01]: They are in the playoffs.
22:25 --> 22:26 [SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna be playing in October.
22:26 --> 22:30 [SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna be doing a podcast after every single playoff game that they have.
22:30 --> 22:31 [SPEAKER_01]: This is when it gets fun.
22:32 --> 22:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Super exciting.
22:33 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_01]: We should update the people on Brian will also take a look at the the standings as we close it out here on Tuesday, but before that you want to read that I do because if you need place to watch the games like the playoff, which are going to be coming up you can head right over to Pugaches pub 85 over in Kirkland, there's going to be 20 TVs in the place, I'm sure there's going to be a bunch of people pack in the house right away to watch the games.
22:55 --> 23:01 [SPEAKER_01]: have some great food and if you go during happy hour, there are drinks from three to four dollars, three to four dollar specials for happy hour, two to six p.m.
23:02 --> 23:02 [SPEAKER_01]: on Monday through Friday.
23:02 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome.
23:03 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_01]: That's Pagaches Pub 85 over in Kirkland.
23:07 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_02]: The update on Bryan with it just in Hollander gave before the game here on Tuesday was overall positive one.
23:16 --> 23:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Bryan was not going to start as scheduled on Thursday, but I think he's going to avoid the IL.
23:21 --> 23:30 [SPEAKER_02]: It did not seem like there was much IL sentiment around the wording of the injury description and who is going to get out there and he's going to test how it feels.
23:31 --> 23:39 [SPEAKER_02]: he's going to throw either today on Wednesday when this episode comes out or he's going to throw on Thursday and see how it feels and then they're going to go from there.
23:42 --> 23:48 [SPEAKER_02]: This is as we thought over the weekend when they got more information loud, but I would say worst case scenario certainly avoided.
23:48 --> 23:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is about what I expected.
23:51 --> 23:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Once the mariners did what they did in Houston and it wasn't absolutely urgent that he needed to start a game this week.
23:57 --> 23:58 [SPEAKER_01]: feels like the right course of action.
23:58 --> 24:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It was the course of action that I figured was going to occur.
24:00 --> 24:07 [SPEAKER_01]: And this is what we're seeing where don't have to push it might as well give them some extra rest, give them some recovery.
24:07 --> 24:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And especially if the Mariners get this two seed, which by the way, we can talk about it a little bit more in a minute.
24:12 --> 24:18 [SPEAKER_01]: The magic number to get that two seed is essentially two games, the west is one, the two seeds essentially two.
24:19 --> 24:23 [SPEAKER_01]: But with that, as it seems like they're going to go clinch it,
24:24 --> 24:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you might as well just let Brian rest and make sure he is all systems go, come play off time.
24:31 --> 24:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Because guess what, if they cleanse that too seed, Brian, we will essentially get two whole weeks off before he has to make another start.
24:36 --> 24:38 [SPEAKER_01]: So he really gets to rest.
24:38 --> 24:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm sure they want him to have some sort of volume of high effort pitches mixed in in between there, which could be, I would say most likely some 40 50 pitch bullpen at some point.
24:51 --> 24:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they throw them in the Dodgers series if they feel like he's ready to do that in a shorter capacity.
24:56 --> 25:06 [SPEAKER_01]: But I think overall, by the Mariners getting the two seed, you can allow Brian wood and not start Thursday, continue to recover and have him be just firing all on all cylinders come playoffs.
25:07 --> 25:10 [SPEAKER_02]: I would not be in favor of just giving him the two weeks off.
25:11 --> 25:12 [SPEAKER_02]: I think they should throw them in the Dodgers series.
25:13 --> 25:15 [SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't need to be a long-outing.
25:15 --> 25:17 [SPEAKER_02]: You don't need to throw him for eight.
25:17 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Could you throw him for four?
25:19 --> 25:23 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not like the Dodgers are gonna be throw in their best line about their either.
25:24 --> 25:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Like the Dodgers most likely once we get to this weekend will have pretty much everything they need clenched as well because they're not gonna get the top seeds in the national league and as of right now, well actually let me pump the brakes on this a little bit.
25:37 --> 25:43 [SPEAKER_02]: It was three, they had a three game lead on the Padre's when we recorded our Monday episode.
25:43 --> 25:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Right now they're lead on the Padre's is a game in a half.
25:46 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_02]: So maybe maybe not,
25:49 --> 25:52 [SPEAKER_02]: the Dodgers do have everything clenched by the time Brian we pitches.
25:53 --> 25:58 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not like he's going to be facing some murderous row of hitters.
25:59 --> 26:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Then on top of that, it's not like you're facing an American league team you're about to play in the playoffs.
26:05 --> 26:15 [SPEAKER_02]: The odds of you playing the Dodgers, you have to make it all the way to the world series, and then be, it needs to be the Dodgers that come out of the National League, the probability of that is pretty low.
26:15 --> 26:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think good benefit Brian will more to throw against life hitters and throw in a game action and keep his body in rhythm rather than throw it off and not have a competitive game for two weeks.
26:28 --> 26:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's fine, it's just the wording of what Adam Jude said makes me think he's not going to start in that series.
26:33 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_01]: So what Adam tweeted is when the, when they wrote their article saying they're going to skip his start Thursday, think they think he's going to avoid the I.L., etc., Jude tweeted out.
26:43 --> 26:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Brian Wu's regular season.
26:44 --> 26:48 [SPEAKER_01]: It appears is over, but the M's A says he's definitely optimistic about his recovery.
26:49 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_01]: So Adam could be wrong about that, they, I shouldn't say Adam could be wrong.
26:53 --> 26:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I should say,
26:54 --> 27:00 [SPEAKER_01]: things could change because when Adam reports things, he's almost always got it right because he's very, very good reporter.
27:00 --> 27:01 [SPEAKER_01]: But things could change.
27:01 --> 27:07 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners could change their mind, maybe they decide to let Wu start in the Dodger series if he feels if they feel like he's completely ready.
27:08 --> 27:12 [SPEAKER_01]: That wording of that tweet just makes me think they're going to avoid it, and they just have him throw
27:13 --> 27:23 [SPEAKER_01]: a bullpen this weekend, and then a bullpen sometime in the middle of the week, and then come next Saturday, he's going to be starting game one if the Mariners have the two seed.
27:23 --> 27:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Like you do that, that would just be quite the energy increase for Brian will.
27:28 --> 27:34 [SPEAKER_02]: You go from, you throw five innings, and then you throw no official innings for two weeks, and then it's playoff time.
27:35 --> 27:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Like that's a pretty big ramp up, I feel like, but I don't know, I'm not a doctor.
27:40 --> 27:41 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not Brian Wu either.
27:41 --> 27:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how he feels.
27:43 --> 27:49 [SPEAKER_02]: I think if he feels good on Thursday, maybe he should start and throw three to four innings on Saturday or Sunday.
27:50 --> 27:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I think he'd be totally fine because he'd also get normal, perfectly normal rest to go then and pitch and game one of the S on Saturday at home.
28:01 --> 28:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, I don't really have a strong opinion on this either way.
28:04 --> 28:04 [SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
28:04 --> 28:07 [SPEAKER_01]: If he's going to throw 50 pitches in the Dodger series, that's fine with me.
28:08 --> 28:10 [SPEAKER_01]: He throws a couple of bullpens that's fine with me.
28:10 --> 28:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I get the competitive aspect of it and ramping it back up.
28:13 --> 28:16 [SPEAKER_01]: But it's not like he's missing two months, two weeks.
28:17 --> 28:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It'd be essentially missing one start.
28:18 --> 28:21 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not, you know, he hasn't had all the time in the world off.
28:22 --> 28:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that he's just going to forget how to pitch in a competitive environment.
28:24 --> 28:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So, whatever the Mariners decide to do medically with him, I'll trust as the right decision.
28:30 --> 28:31 [SPEAKER_02]: And, and I'm with you on that.
28:31 --> 28:47 [SPEAKER_02]: I have heard, you do hear enough players say that they like, once you're in rhythm, you stay in rhythm, and I'm, I'm just a proponent right now for keeping the rhythm going as close to normal as possible without going on the injured list.
28:49 --> 28:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Whatever they choose to do, the Mariners clinch the buy, that's the most important thing.
28:53 --> 28:58 [SPEAKER_02]: So then they can really line up the rotation for Brian would a pitch on that Saturday and game of the DS.
28:59 --> 28:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
28:59 --> 29:00 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's exciting.
29:01 --> 29:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of who they're going to play in the DS.
29:02 --> 29:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, actually one other thing.
29:05 --> 29:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just thinking this through here before we get to the standings.
29:08 --> 29:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Will they think about waiting to pitch Brian Wu and tell they're on the road?
29:12 --> 29:12 [SPEAKER_01]: No.
29:15 --> 29:20 [SPEAKER_02]: No, because if you wait to pitch him game three, that's the only game he pitches all series and you don't want that.
29:20 --> 29:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a good point.
29:21 --> 29:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just thinking about how Brian Woof bears on the road, compared to the rest of the rotation, but you're right, wins or wins in a playoff series.
29:27 --> 29:33 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to focus on winning game one, then focus on winning game two, and then worry about winning game three.
29:33 --> 29:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's how they're going to approach it do.
29:36 --> 29:42 [SPEAKER_01]: That's true, and maybe it would line up by that point where he's had enough rest to go pitch in game four.
29:43 --> 29:44 [SPEAKER_01]: on the road who knows.
29:44 --> 29:56 [SPEAKER_02]: So we'll say let's see because it would be so Saturday's game one it would be short rest Sunday's game two Mondays off Tuesday's game three Wednesday's game four.
29:56 --> 29:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that'd be three days rest.
29:59 --> 30:02 [SPEAKER_02]: So TBD, I guess it depends on where the series is at.
30:02 --> 30:04 [SPEAKER_02]: They could do game one in game five.
30:05 --> 30:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that would be a normal rest.
30:07 --> 30:07 [SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
30:08 --> 30:10 [SPEAKER_02]: So that would be Saturday and Friday.
30:10 --> 30:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for brand.
30:11 --> 30:14 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, then, then other manner starters will just have to step up on the road.
30:14 --> 30:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Cause you're right, you'd want Brian who pitching twice in the series.
30:18 --> 30:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Most of the pictures are going to have to step up on the road because Brian was the only one who has a head of problem on the road for the most part.
30:25 --> 30:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about these standings.
30:26 --> 30:33 [SPEAKER_02]: The standings continue to just get crazier and crazier outside of the mariners who are making things very relaxing for us.
30:34 --> 30:38 [SPEAKER_02]: How about the guardians who are facing terror scoobled today against the tigers?
30:38 --> 30:39 [SPEAKER_02]: You would think that
30:40 --> 30:58 [SPEAKER_02]: While the Tigers are in this free fall, Tarak Scooble would be able to go out there, and he'd be able to slam the door, give the Tigers a two game lead back in the division with however, with five games left to play and have Tigers sends breathe a little bit and they could focus on one of the division title.
30:59 --> 31:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, no, the Guardians are trailing too nothing I believe in the sixth inning.
31:03 --> 31:07 [SPEAKER_02]: I haven't any where they score three runs and the ball does not leave the infield.
31:07 --> 31:11 [SPEAKER_02]: They take the lead never surrender to the lead, come back when and they now tie the division.
31:12 --> 31:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Crazy.
31:15 --> 31:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Why does any team still let Jose Ramirez hit?
31:18 --> 31:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm serious.
31:19 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_01]: You look down that line up for the Guardians.
31:22 --> 31:25 [SPEAKER_01]: And you get past J Ram, who is an MVP candidate.
31:25 --> 31:28 [SPEAKER_01]: He's on his plenty on his way to be in a Hall of Famer, et cetera.
31:29 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_01]: You get past him, what is happening with that offense?
31:33 --> 31:37 [SPEAKER_01]: There's one above average hitter in the entire lineup and it's Kyle Manzardo.
31:37 --> 31:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody else is even a league average bat, even Steven Kwan currently sits with a 99 OPS class as we sit here on Tuesday night.
31:46 --> 31:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the guardians are so,
31:50 --> 31:54 [SPEAKER_01]: They're just so odd, because they're red hot, they're playing extremely well.
31:54 --> 32:01 [SPEAKER_01]: They're scrappy, they're annoying as hell to play against, because they grind out at bats, always.
32:01 --> 32:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And they're this hot, by the way, because they're pitching.
32:03 --> 32:04 [SPEAKER_01]: They're pitching's been insane.
32:06 --> 32:06 [SPEAKER_01]: But...
32:08 --> 32:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I don't know who I fear more right now between the Tigers or the Guardians.
32:11 --> 32:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I think the Tigers are the better team and the team with more talent made, and you'd have to face Terrix scoobled twice in a playoff series.
32:17 --> 32:22 [SPEAKER_01]: But the Guardians, despite having two good hitters, are red hot.
32:23 --> 32:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I would not want to play the Guardians, but I wouldn't want to face Terrix scoobled twice in a series.
32:29 --> 32:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, the Guardians have said that doesn't really matter, because even if he's on the
32:36 --> 32:37 [SPEAKER_02]: The Mariners have said that to what they did.
32:37 --> 32:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, that's what the Mariners have said this year too.
32:39 --> 32:40 [SPEAKER_01]: They beat them twice.
32:40 --> 32:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I still wouldn't want to face them in a playoff series.
32:42 --> 32:49 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, well, the thankfully again, as I always mentioned, the Mariners having their own ace pitching makes it a little easier to stomach.
32:50 --> 32:52 [SPEAKER_02]: But the Mariners don't get us say in how that series ends.
32:52 --> 32:57 [SPEAKER_02]: So the way it looks right now, I don't know how the Tigers are going to win two games.
33:00 --> 33:02 [SPEAKER_02]: They, they're given cooked vibes.
33:04 --> 33:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I hope they find a way because God, it would be so fucking awesome if the Astros miss the playoffs.
33:09 --> 33:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Right now, the Tigers have that last wildcard spot and hold a game lead over the Astros.
33:14 --> 33:19 [SPEAKER_02]: The Astros looked awful tonight in the exact moment.
33:19 --> 33:26 [SPEAKER_02]: In the first inning, they drop a pop fly, which allows the ace to take the lead and they never came back from that.
33:27 --> 33:29 [SPEAKER_02]: No, doesn't look good.
33:29 --> 33:32 [SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of awful defensive miscues around the league today.
33:32 --> 33:38 [SPEAKER_01]: I know we're mostly focusing on the American League, but good Lord Did you see that ball that wants so-to-miston right field at rig lead?
33:38 --> 33:39 [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't actually see that.
33:40 --> 33:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
33:40 --> 33:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it yet again confirms my very strong opinion and I'm
33:47 --> 34:13 [SPEAKER_01]: very much not alone in this either and why does he play a single inning in right field anymore you got to go watch this when you have a second it is it is truly unfathomable and it led to two runs for the cubs now the meds still won but they came back from six nothing so speaking of bad defensive miscues today you saw a couple of them across the league and games that are very important in the final week of the year speaking of cooked i thought the meds were cooked but they came back in one today so i mean but it's far from over for them the reds lost to
34:16 --> 34:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a fun final week across the league.
34:18 --> 34:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, the Mariners weren't never in this position, where the Mariners are sitting pretty comfortably right now, where they need one more win or one more used in loss in the next five days to win the West.
34:30 --> 34:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And the magic number essentially sits at two right now to get the two seed.
34:34 --> 34:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Even the American League East teams can't sit pretty, think about this.
34:38 --> 34:46 [SPEAKER_02]: The Red Sox only have a game lead on Detroit for the last Wildcarts bot, therefore two game lead on the Astros for being out of the playoffs.
34:48 --> 34:50 [SPEAKER_02]: The Red Sox right now are playing the Blue Jays.
34:50 --> 34:53 [SPEAKER_02]: They beat the Blue Jays here in Game 1 tonight on Tuesday.
34:54 --> 34:56 [SPEAKER_02]: They're throwing Garrett crochet tomorrow.
34:56 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_02]: The Mariners only trail the Blue Jays right now by two games in the standing three games overall because of the tiebreaker.
35:02 --> 35:04 [SPEAKER_02]: And the Yankees are a game back of the Blue Jays right now.
35:06 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_01]: and who do the Red Sox play the final weekend?
35:10 --> 35:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Tigers.
35:11 --> 35:12 [SPEAKER_01]: The Tigers.
35:13 --> 35:18 [SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be nuts, because all the monitors are like, we played all of our American League teams.
35:20 --> 35:31 [SPEAKER_01]: This is why it was so, so crucial to do what you did down in Houston, because look at how pretty you're sitting right now, you really don't have to sweat this out.
35:31 --> 35:36 [SPEAKER_01]: It would take a catastrophic final five days to not both win the West and get the two seed.
35:37 --> 35:38 [SPEAKER_01]: You'd have to lose out.
35:39 --> 35:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Basically, yeah.
35:41 --> 35:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
35:42 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_01]: And you are playing the Rockies two more times.
35:45 --> 35:48 [SPEAKER_01]: And you may play a Dodgers team that's not playing for anything, because they may have the three seed all clenched.
35:50 --> 35:55 [SPEAKER_02]: So we're sitting here thinking the odds of the number one seed I grew with you are not very high right now.
35:56 --> 35:58 [SPEAKER_02]: They weren't very high when we recorded on Monday.
35:58 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_02]: They're not very high right now.
35:59 --> 36:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I see Toronto losing today.
36:02 --> 36:06 [SPEAKER_02]: And the idea pops into my mind and I see Garrett crochet on the mound for the Red Sox tomorrow.
36:07 --> 36:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Against the Blue Jays, facing off against Max Scherzer as an area over five this year.
36:11 --> 36:13 [SPEAKER_02]: And saying, well, I kind of like that.
36:13 --> 36:15 [SPEAKER_02]: The Mariners win tomorrow.
36:15 --> 36:16 [SPEAKER_02]: The Blue Jays lose again.
36:17 --> 36:18 [SPEAKER_02]: You're a game back.
36:19 --> 36:25 [SPEAKER_01]: The only thing is, as cool as it would be, does the one seed verse that you see make that much of a difference?
36:25 --> 36:29 [SPEAKER_01]: It's essentially the difference of one home game in the playoffs, and that's if you play the Blue Jays in the CS.
36:32 --> 36:37 [SPEAKER_02]: So not that much, but the Mariners don't get to be in this position at often.
36:38 --> 36:38 [SPEAKER_01]: No, they don't.
36:39 --> 36:40 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'd like to be able to enjoy it.
36:42 --> 36:46 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, and you go to June when the Mariners get swept in Arizona and they're rolling out.
36:47 --> 37:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Routing to Les and Donovan, Solano and Dillon Moran to fifths of the starting rotation is on the injured list and the bullpen is mediocre and you'd say, yeah, this team's going to finish with the best record in the American lake and it would be like, no, no, they're not.
37:03 --> 37:04 [SPEAKER_02]: And then they actually do.
37:04 --> 37:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And there's a chance they actually do, but I'm totally okay with the two seed.
37:08 --> 37:10 [SPEAKER_02]: We're in the next two days.
37:10 --> 37:11 [SPEAKER_02]: That's the most important thing.
37:11 --> 37:13 [SPEAKER_02]: That's I think the most important thing that matters.
37:13 --> 37:16 [SPEAKER_02]: So the Mariners can't quote unquote controlling their destiny.
37:16 --> 37:24 [SPEAKER_02]: While mentioned the magic numbers to to clinch the two to clinch the by one to clinch the one to clinch the division.
37:25 --> 37:35 [SPEAKER_02]: If you want everything, you win tonight, or you win Wednesday night, you win Thursday night, beat the worst team in the league twice with the great pitching advantage.
37:35 --> 37:36 [SPEAKER_02]: You won't have to worry about anything.
37:36 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:38 --> 37:40 [SPEAKER_01]: So, let me say this really fast, too.
37:40 --> 37:42 [SPEAKER_01]: About the two seed versus the one seed.
37:42 --> 37:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Is there not a part of you that would rather play one of those central teams than the teams in the east?
37:47 --> 37:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Because if you're the one seed, you get the winner of four, five.
37:49 --> 37:50 [SPEAKER_01]: And it feels like that could be a
37:57 --> 38:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, four five right now is, oh, well, yeah, it's the red socks and the tires and you know, I don't want to play the Tigers.
38:05 --> 38:06 [SPEAKER_01]: You also said you don't want to play the Guardians.
38:07 --> 38:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we know.
38:07 --> 38:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Four.
38:08 --> 38:09 [SPEAKER_02]: No, wait dog.
38:09 --> 38:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Four five right now is the red socks and Yankees.
38:12 --> 38:13 [SPEAKER_01]: That's that's what I'm saying.
38:13 --> 38:16 [SPEAKER_01]: So if the mariners are the one seed, you would have to play the winner of four five.
38:16 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_01]: So, oh, okay.
38:18 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
38:18 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't I wasn't doing math right there.
38:19 --> 38:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
38:20 --> 38:20 [SPEAKER_02]: No, rather play.
38:20 --> 38:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I'd rather play.
38:24 --> 38:27 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I'd rather play one of the central teams because they're less talented.
38:27 --> 38:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
38:28 --> 38:29 [SPEAKER_02]: That's the right answer.
38:29 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
38:31 --> 38:32 [SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to face Aaron judge.
38:32 --> 38:38 [SPEAKER_01]: You wouldn't have to face Gary Crochet twice in a series and you wouldn't have to face all the hitters at the Red Sox have in their lineup.
38:39 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Not that the other two teams in the central don't pose some challenges.
38:42 --> 38:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Of course they do, but if you had to pick a matchup, I think I'd rather play the central.
38:47 --> 38:50 [SPEAKER_02]: If the mayor has to play the Guardians in the DS though, I'm going to be a little stressed.
38:51 --> 38:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll be stressed because you know those games are never easy.
38:55 --> 39:22 [SPEAKER_02]: and the and the guardians just earlier this month got this run started by beating the mariners and do it is that way uh... the the good news is i would uh... bet on the rangers i would uh... bet on the guardians not exactly having a lockdown back into the bullpen in the playoffs it's been pretty locked down here in the the stretch run but i would bet it's not as locked down to cut it i know i get it i get it call the number if you have a problem
39:25 --> 39:51 [SPEAKER_01]: and Luis Ortiz do yeah but yeah i think i'd rather play one of the central teams so the scenarios left to win the west and clinch the two seed winning the west is pretty simple in the next five days if you win one more game or qston loses one more game you will be the champions of the american league west for the first time since 2001 pretty crazy it's crazy to say but yes pretty easy
39:52 --> 40:08 [SPEAKER_01]: The number two seed is a little different, little different because, and full transparency, two areas on the state grads had to basically put their heads together and try to screw in a light bulb figuring out the two seed magic number before we hopped on this podcast because we couldn't figure it out.
40:10 --> 40:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Basically, the magic numbers too, but the Mariners cannot clinch the two seed on Wednesday because between the guardians and tigers who are playing
40:22 --> 40:49 [SPEAKER_01]: so you will not get any help in the magic number department from either of those two teams on Wednesday because when one of them inevitably wins your magic number is not going to go down from that but if you win it will go down because you win well it'll go down if you win but it won't go down from outside help from Cleveland and Detroit because somebody has to win and that won't knock the mariner's number down now you're right if the mariner's win on Wednesday against the Rockies
40:50 --> 40:55 [SPEAKER_01]: they would clinch the west and then the magic number for the two seed goes down to one game.
40:56 --> 41:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And then at one game on Thursday, then you would just need one of two things to happen either.
41:03 --> 41:11 [SPEAKER_01]: You win again against Colorado or you would see on Thursday Cleveland or Detroit, loose.
41:12 --> 41:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And you will clinch it depend on who loses on what it would need to be the other team.
41:17 --> 41:31 [SPEAKER_02]: So let's say Cleveland wins on Wednesday Detroit would need to win on Thursday for that magic number to go down right whoever's leading the central on Thursday would have to lose correct you to clinch correct that's what you need so the way you expect there's two ways this happens.
41:32 --> 41:36 [SPEAKER_02]: First up first way Mariners win Wednesday and Thursday to see clinched.
41:37 --> 41:43 [SPEAKER_02]: or the Mariners split the final two games with the Rockies and the Tigers in Guardian split the final two games with their series.
41:44 --> 41:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
41:44 --> 41:45 [SPEAKER_02]: That's how this gets done.
41:46 --> 41:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:46 --> 41:47 [SPEAKER_01]: So the magic number is two.
41:48 --> 41:50 [SPEAKER_01]: It just cannot all be done on Wednesday.
41:50 --> 41:55 [SPEAKER_01]: They can win the West on Wednesday, but getting a two seed will have to wait till either Thursday or this weekend.
41:56 --> 41:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
41:57 --> 41:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Exciting stuff.
41:58 --> 41:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Very exciting.
41:59 --> 42:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Man, then we get a week off.
42:00 --> 42:02 [SPEAKER_02]: What are we going to do with a week off?
42:03 --> 42:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I figure we're going to keep to our normal podcast schedule.
42:05 --> 42:07 [SPEAKER_01]: People are going to want to hear about things.
42:07 --> 42:14 [SPEAKER_01]: So I guess we'll kind of just sit, talk some mariners storylines and recap people on the rest of the field, kind of how it's all going to line up for the mariners.
42:14 --> 42:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what I mean.
42:15 --> 42:26 [SPEAKER_02]: That was sarcasm, just after after six months of nonstop baseball, getting a week off before waiting for a playoff series, it's not something we used to.
42:26 --> 42:27 [SPEAKER_01]: no, not at all.
42:27 --> 42:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we'll get creative.
42:28 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll find stuff to talk about.
42:30 --> 42:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure Monday's podcast will recap some of the Dodgers series and where everything finally officially stands.
42:34 --> 42:37 [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's going to be a little weird.
42:37 --> 42:38 [SPEAKER_01]: We've never really experienced that.
42:38 --> 42:40 [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, let's kill time on a podcast.
42:40 --> 42:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I shouldn't say kill time.
42:41 --> 42:43 [SPEAKER_01]: We're never killing time on a podcast.
42:43 --> 42:45 [SPEAKER_01]: We are entertaining people with talk of baseball and the Mariners.
42:46 --> 42:48 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to entertain people throughout the week of a Mariners potential.
42:48 --> 42:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
42:50 --> 42:55 [SPEAKER_01]: with topics that we don't always get to dive into, because usually the Mariners are playing baseball games.
42:55 --> 42:58 [SPEAKER_01]: That week, they wouldn't be playing baseball games for all the right reasons.
43:00 --> 43:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Look at Vora do it, dog.
43:01 --> 43:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Couple more left in the regular, or one more podcast left in the regular season.
43:05 --> 43:06 [SPEAKER_02]: And then we're off.
43:07 --> 43:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Sort of too.
43:08 --> 43:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you count Monday's podcast after the Dodgers series ends as ending regular season?
43:13 --> 43:15 [SPEAKER_02]: The most seasoned podcast.
43:16 --> 43:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Monstro.
43:17 --> 43:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Season will be over.
43:18 --> 43:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
43:19 --> 43:46 [SPEAKER_02]: but not actually for the mariners despite all the people the regular season would be over yeah the regular season would be over despite all the people throughout the city of Seattle maybe at times as included who knows um... that said that said seasons over the season is actually not over on Sunday season did not end in June season did not end in July did not certainly did not end on the road trip earlier this month huh that's that's for sure and you know what well before we wrap up this episode i just need to give a one more shout out
43:47 --> 43:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Shout out to the Etsy witch.
43:49 --> 43:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for all you've done.
43:51 --> 43:58 [SPEAKER_02]: One loss since the Etsy witch bless the mariners and Hopefully it can that number stays that way throughout the playoffs.
43:59 --> 43:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
43:59 --> 44:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I need to do one more shout out too.
44:01 --> 44:11 [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't want to forget this I want to find out in the next few days what the mariners main
44:12 --> 44:28 [SPEAKER_01]: repeated song is in the clubhouse on the ox and I say that because this the mariners feel like they have the talent and the wear with all the make a serious deep run in the post even right I think everybody listening to this and you sit in here across from me would agree they have the talent to go do that
44:29 --> 44:41 [SPEAKER_01]: And I just sit and think about both the Phillies in 22 and the Rangers in 23 and how their entire city and entire fan base rallied around songs.
44:41 --> 44:44 [SPEAKER_01]: They still play dancing on my own all the time and Philly.
44:45 --> 44:52 [SPEAKER_01]: When it gets late in the year and they're rallying and the fans want to get into it, that's still a thing because the Phillies listen to that all the time.
44:53 --> 44:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Dancing on my own.
44:53 --> 44:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I think the author or the singer that has calmed if I have that right.
44:59 --> 45:01 [SPEAKER_01]: that was 2022 and it's carried on.
45:01 --> 45:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Then in 23 when the Rangers won the World Series, there was the whole story that came out that they got fired up, listening to the song higher by Creed and the whole fan base circle around it.
45:10 --> 45:14 [SPEAKER_01]: It became a whole thing, everybody kind of popped out to it.
45:15 --> 45:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, what is that for the 2025 Mariners?
45:17 --> 45:24 [SPEAKER_01]: What song gets constantly repeated and replayed all the time in the clubhouse that they rally around?
45:24 --> 45:25 [SPEAKER_01]: There has to be one.
45:26 --> 45:27 [SPEAKER_01]: And whatever it is, I'd love to find out what it is,
45:29 --> 45:37 [SPEAKER_01]: give the fans a song to rally around it's such a great musical cry in a way to bring all these people together in the postseason.
45:37 --> 45:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it like despite us rooting for the Rangers to lose.
45:40 --> 45:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I thought both when the Rangers and Philly's did that.
45:43 --> 45:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Those two years it was insanely cool.
45:44 --> 45:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So I would love to find out what that song is.
45:47 --> 45:48 [SPEAKER_02]: So there's an early candidate.
45:48 --> 45:52 [SPEAKER_02]: There's been some videos to it out that the Mariners were singing along to Mr.
45:59 --> 46:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Mister rager.
46:00 --> 46:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
46:02 --> 46:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's do some homework on that.
46:04 --> 46:06 [SPEAKER_01]: We we know some people.
46:06 --> 46:07 [SPEAKER_01]: We can talk to some people.
46:07 --> 46:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's find out.
46:08 --> 46:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's say this
46:09 --> 46:34 [SPEAKER_01]: if they actually have a song that they rally around, we will get the word out because we want to do anything we can to help get that out into the verse of into the universe of mariner fans because if you look in rally around that all poses and that's that's up spun his hell so I hope there's something like that's a rally around and we're gonna get a couple of drinks in loud and get them up on stage and have him sing as well see here's what's funny about me
46:36 --> 46:41 [SPEAKER_01]: usually that is so, so very much not my cup of tea at all.
46:41 --> 46:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Despite all the screaming I do on the podcast and despite how I come off on here, that's actually very much not my scene to get up on stage in front of a bunch of people and do that.
46:50 --> 46:57 [SPEAKER_01]: However, there is something about when things are mariners related that I can put all that to the side.
46:58 --> 47:00 [SPEAKER_01]: and just bulk up all the courage I need to go up and do it.
47:01 --> 47:05 [SPEAKER_01]: So if it's Mariners related, sure, I'll get up and do it in front of a bunch of people.
47:05 --> 47:07 [SPEAKER_01]: If it's gonna fire people up, sign me up.
47:10 --> 47:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Get your musical career started, sure.
47:12 --> 47:20 [SPEAKER_02]: And yes, a couple of drinks wouldn't hurt either, but it never takes maybe more than a couple need to we need to get you we can't have any timidness going on here.
47:20 --> 47:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's fair.
47:21 --> 47:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the only other one downside about when they clench and it's nitpicking, but when they clench and 22 was on a Friday night, so everybody got to go out and just drink and celebrate afterwards.
47:31 --> 47:32 [SPEAKER_01]: This year it's on a Tuesday.
47:33 --> 47:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Like obviously we have a podcast that's here and get out for the people.
47:36 --> 47:39 [SPEAKER_02]: So everyone has worked tomorrow and the division clinches is going to be on a Wednesday.
47:39 --> 47:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Right, I have to get up at the fourth, 30 in the morning is always during the weekday.
47:42 --> 47:44 [SPEAKER_01]: So, that probably wasn't going to happen.
47:44 --> 47:45 [SPEAKER_01]: However, I will say this.
47:46 --> 47:58 [SPEAKER_01]: If the Mariners get to the world series, or sure of self, they win the world series, and that's on a weeknight, oh, it may just be an all nighter.
48:00 --> 48:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I made just stay out the entire night celebrating and then instead of trying to go home and go to bed It's like, well, time to go to work.
48:07 --> 48:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I got a radio show to do Those soundbites are going to live on on that show forever Yeah, how are we feeling?
48:17 --> 48:17 [SPEAKER_01]: It's fine.
48:18 --> 48:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll drink I'll drink some caffeine stay awake for the four of us not how works.
48:22 --> 48:23 [SPEAKER_01]: What do you mean?
48:23 --> 48:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Really?
48:24 --> 48:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Why not?
48:25 --> 48:27 [SPEAKER_02]: For an all-nighter, you'd probably still fall asleep.
48:27 --> 48:28 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't think so.
48:28 --> 48:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd be too energized.
48:30 --> 48:37 [SPEAKER_02]: As someone who drinks substantially more caffeine than you, you can be tired enough when you drink caffeine and still fall asleep.
48:38 --> 48:39 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'll power through.
48:39 --> 48:40 [SPEAKER_02]: So, okay.
48:41 --> 48:41 [SPEAKER_02]: That'll be fun, though.
48:42 --> 48:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd be tuning in every minute.
48:43 --> 48:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm sorry.
48:44 --> 48:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
48:44 --> 48:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
48:44 --> 48:47 [SPEAKER_02]: No, I wouldn't because I'd be out with you, and I'd be fast asleep.
48:48 --> 48:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, if the Mariners get to the world series and or win the world series, you can't miss a chance to do that.
48:56 --> 48:59 [SPEAKER_01]: So no, you can't, I'm not blaming you for doing that.
48:59 --> 49:05 [SPEAKER_01]: No, you will, I will power through for one day or two days, however many it is, so I'll figure it out.
49:05 --> 49:06 [SPEAKER_01]: You can call that a work.
49:07 --> 49:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Consec.
49:08 --> 49:09 [SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
49:09 --> 49:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
49:09 --> 49:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that's fine.
49:10 --> 49:11 [SPEAKER_02]: I think we will understand.
49:12 --> 49:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I am sec.

49:30 --> 49:31 [SPEAKER_01]: We may be getting over our skis a little bit.
49:31 --> 49:32 [SPEAKER_01]: They still have to clinch the west.
49:32 --> 49:33 [SPEAKER_01]: They still have to clinch the 2C.
49:33 --> 49:36 [SPEAKER_01]: They still have to win a divisional series on a championship series before all that.
49:36 --> 49:38 [SPEAKER_01]: But it is fun to think about, man.
49:38 --> 49:40 [SPEAKER_01]: The first 299 episodes of this podcast.
49:40 --> 49:41 [SPEAKER_01]: We haven't gotten to do that.
