00:00 --> 00:15 [SPEAKER_00]: But when the episode number 307 of the Marine Layer podcast, the Mariners flop in game for the bullpin impludes, the offense goes way quietly late in the game, and the Mariners have now set themselves up for a stressful game five on Friday at T-Mobile Park.
00:16 --> 00:16 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll break it all down.

00:42 --> 00:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it rolling.
00:57 --> 01:12 [SPEAKER_00]: And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Lair podcast part of the just baseball podcast network recording here on Wednesday afternoon October 8th and That was really deflating today watching it here again at Queen Ann Beer Hall.
01:12 --> 01:13 [SPEAKER_00]: It's feeling good for five.
01:15 --> 01:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Not feeling good after that.
01:18 --> 01:25 [SPEAKER_01]: It is amazing, the change in the vibe around that entire game, which goes without saying, but they were cruising early.
01:25 --> 01:26 [SPEAKER_01]: They really were.
01:26 --> 01:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Bryce was cruising, not like the offense exploded, but a three nothing lead, going to the bullpen that's locked it down all postseason, all the second half, man, it was just an implosion.
01:37 --> 01:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Today, there's no other way to put it, it was a bullpen implosion.
01:40 --> 01:44 [SPEAKER_00]: What was worse today was it the bullpen or was it the offense?
01:45 --> 01:56 [SPEAKER_00]: The offense wasn't bad, but the offense had every opportunity in the world in the first six innings of the game today to step their foot on the gas and put the Tigers out of it very early.
01:56 --> 02:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Fourth inning, bases loaded up to nothing, nobody out, Victor Robless at the plate.
02:01 --> 02:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Right there, Vic plugs a gap, it's five nothing, Bryce was pitching well enough.
02:08 --> 02:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Mariner said every ounce of momentum on their side didn't end a matter.
02:14 --> 02:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Robless grounds into double play they only score one run and then they score one run in the fifth and that's it Yes, however the bullpen gave up seven runs the tiger scored a lot of runs today The final score of that game was nine to three where the manager's gonna score ten runs again.
02:31 --> 02:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know no and
02:34 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_00]: at some point there was going to be a mariner's bullpin arm of leverage that was going to struggle.
02:40 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_00]: And today that was Edward Bazarto and Gabe Spire.
02:44 --> 02:45 [SPEAKER_00]: However, you want to paint it for them.
02:45 --> 02:49 [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't work besides their velocities being sort of fine.
02:49 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think this was an overuse issue.
02:50 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_00]: I think this was a throwing balls over the middle of the plate issue.
02:53 --> 02:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Gabe Spire got one swing and miss in his outing.
02:56 --> 02:59 [SPEAKER_00]: One single swing and miss.
02:59 --> 03:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Edward Bazarto hung his slider
03:03 --> 03:14 [SPEAKER_00]: In this recent stretch he's been on and the Tigers align up that I shat the shit talk to the entire series Shit talking them earlier today not by a single thing.
03:14 --> 03:18 [SPEAKER_00]: They were putting out there May me eat my words because they stepped up to the plate.
03:18 --> 03:32 [SPEAKER_00]: They got hangers and they crushed him I mean hobby bias had a couple home run distance foul balls before he actually hit a home run later in the game And it just sort of cascaded from there and I I don't know anything left to say because I was proven wrong today
03:32 --> 03:33 [SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't stop the bleeding.
03:33 --> 03:35 [SPEAKER_01]: The Tigers absolutely poured it on today.
03:35 --> 03:39 [SPEAKER_01]: And Gabe, man, games fire never gets hit by lefties.
03:40 --> 03:42 [SPEAKER_01]: And Riley Green was right on that home or today.
03:42 --> 03:44 [SPEAKER_01]: It was just everything that could go wrong in the bullpen.
03:45 --> 03:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Went wrong in game four.
03:47 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_01]: And it just spiraled out of control.
03:48 --> 03:49 [SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't stop the bleeding.
03:49 --> 03:51 [SPEAKER_01]: The offense couldn't punch back.
03:51 --> 03:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Once it got to that fifth inning,
03:53 --> 03:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It was just a free fall.
03:54 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_01]: There's no other way to put it.
03:55 --> 03:56 [SPEAKER_01]: It was a free fall.
03:56 --> 04:01 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they even had a chance though when they got to the sixth inning, yes, the fifth inning had already happened.
04:01 --> 04:06 [SPEAKER_00]: The game was tied three to three, but there's like, okay, that was bad.
04:06 --> 04:09 [SPEAKER_00]: That was probably the worst inning we played this entire postseason so far.
04:10 --> 04:11 [SPEAKER_00]: It's tied game, four innings left.
04:12 --> 04:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Go out there, score a couple runs, rest of the bullpen locks it down.
04:16 --> 04:23 [SPEAKER_00]: The Mariners then immediately get their opportunity after two outs, Robless Walks, JP singles.
04:24 --> 04:26 [SPEAKER_00]: We're sitting here and like, okay, stop the bleeding.
04:27 --> 04:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Take the Tigers momentum off the board.
04:29 --> 04:31 [SPEAKER_00]: They're feeling good about themselves.
04:32 --> 04:39 [SPEAKER_00]: If Randy plugs a gap at that moment, Mariners score two runs, momentum is right back in the Mariners side.
04:39 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_00]: And then the Tigers are playing from behind again as they've played most of the series.
04:44 --> 04:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Randy doesn't do that, and then Riley Green comes up and hits an absolute tater off of Gabe Spire, and that felt like the game.
04:50 --> 04:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Right there, that sequence right there, and that moment where both the offense and the bullpen did not come through.
04:59 --> 05:01 [SPEAKER_01]: It was still only four three then and don't get me wrong.
05:01 --> 05:03 [SPEAKER_01]: It was four unanswered runs by the Tigers at that point.
05:04 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's when it felt like the game.
05:05 --> 05:10 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like four three in the double, then RBI single from a Ken stream.
05:10 --> 05:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I think either the McKinsey single or the Havie Homer is when it about felt like the game.
05:15 --> 05:16 [SPEAKER_01]: The Havie Homer was really the nail on the coffin.
05:17 --> 05:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
05:17 --> 05:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the whole inning, the whole inning was the nail on the coffin.
05:20 --> 05:21 [SPEAKER_01]: You can't give up home runs the Havie bias.
05:21 --> 05:22 [SPEAKER_00]: No, you can.
05:22 --> 05:24 [SPEAKER_00]: He's batting low in the order for reason.
05:25 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, if you were to tell us worst case scenario from the bullpen today with Bryce Miller on the mound, there's not a lot you could do to get around that, because that is right now your fifth best starter on the mound and your bullpen giving one of their worst performances of the season in one of the biggest spots of the season.
05:44 --> 05:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Wrote that story, pregame you'd say, yeah, pretty difficult, unless we're scoring 10 runs, which I understand, but considering what is at stake in game five,
05:53 --> 05:56 [SPEAKER_00]: It would be great to find a way around that.
05:56 --> 05:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Because now instead the Mariners get to go to Game 5 and face Terrix Kubo.
06:00 --> 06:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I still wonder if there was any thought today to putting George Kirby into that game for a couple of things out of the bullpen.
06:06 --> 06:07 [SPEAKER_01]: With a lead, I would have done it.
06:08 --> 06:10 [SPEAKER_01]: So maybe you weren't going to pull Bryce after four.
06:10 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_01]: But I still wonder was there a situation where
06:14 --> 06:17 [SPEAKER_01]: the Mariners turned to Kirby and let them run.
06:17 --> 06:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Was there a situation where they would have pulled Bryce after four innings and let Kirby just run with it?
06:22 --> 06:25 [SPEAKER_01]: At least for three to four innings until you try to bridge it to Moon Yows.
06:25 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_01]: There's somebody at the back end.
06:29 --> 06:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think Bryce was any sort of the problem today.
06:32 --> 06:37 [SPEAKER_01]: No, he wasn't, but it's just, obviously his number second in time, second and third time through the order.
06:37 --> 06:38 [SPEAKER_01]: This year aren't great.
06:40 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Look, the Mariners pulled him at the right time.
06:42 --> 06:44 [SPEAKER_01]: When he started to get into some trouble in the fifth inning, they pulled him.
06:44 --> 06:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Ultimately, this comes down to the bullpen didn't pitch well enough.
06:47 --> 06:48 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's clear.
06:48 --> 06:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I still just wonder if there was some thought today to letting Kirby just run with it to try and seal down a win in game four.
06:56 --> 06:58 [SPEAKER_00]: So here's how I think it would have played out, right?
06:58 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_00]: So you had...
07:00 --> 07:06 [SPEAKER_00]: So you pull Bryce in the fifth, Gabe pitched through the rest of the bottom of the order.
07:06 --> 07:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see if I have the remember the exact batter Bryce came out.
07:11 --> 07:15 [SPEAKER_00]: So Bryce gets pulled after he faced Dylan Dinkler, who's the number seven hitter.
07:16 --> 07:24 [SPEAKER_00]: So Gabe comes in to face eight, nine, gate eight, nine, one, two, three, and then four, and then gets pulled.
07:25 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_00]: So the goal there is Gabe faces
07:29 --> 07:29 [SPEAKER_00]: the bottom of the lineup.
07:30 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Bizarro comes in and faces the top of the lineup, the next inning.
07:34 --> 07:36 [SPEAKER_00]: So what that puts you right back in the middle of the lineup.
07:36 --> 07:45 [SPEAKER_00]: So then maybe if you're gonna throw Kirby, you throw Kirby against the bottom of the lineup, again throw many eighth inning, and then you throw moody in the ninth against the bats at the top of the lineup.
07:45 --> 07:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
07:46 --> 07:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I'd say that makes sense.
07:49 --> 08:10 [SPEAKER_00]: as good as George Kirby sounds out of the bullpen if I told you while George Kirby's gonna pitch with a one run lead in the ninth inning but he has to face carry carbon you'd be like oh he can't do that no he can't do that which is why George would then face the bottom of the lineup and mooney would get to face carry carpenter but that didn't come around because I was only throwing George Kirby today if the mayor said a lead and frankly
08:11 --> 08:14 [SPEAKER_00]: they didn't have a lead once they put their Edward Pazar to win the game.
08:15 --> 08:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
08:15 --> 08:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And there's just so many things that were part of that spiral and that just added on to it.
08:20 --> 08:26 [SPEAKER_01]: And it started early, even with Randy Rosalina just taking a terrible route to that baseball.
08:26 --> 08:27 [SPEAKER_01]: It started right there.
08:27 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So by the way, that's the second day in a row that's happened.
08:29 --> 08:30 [SPEAKER_00]: So bad.
08:30 --> 08:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Randy's defense has been better at least by the numbers than it was a year ago.
08:34 --> 08:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Like he has made improvements on that.
08:36 --> 08:41 [SPEAKER_01]: But the last two days, those are a couple of really, really tough routes he's taken to the ball.
08:41 --> 08:49 [SPEAKER_00]: He, a two direct to the ball and he needs to, needs to give ground even if you could save one base against a team that's very good at taking extra bases.
08:50 --> 08:53 [SPEAKER_00]: That can mean a lot and he, he did not do that.
08:53 --> 08:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Didn't, the mayorers didn't give themselves a chance really in any aspect today.
08:57 --> 08:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Had some base runners, couldn't score all of them.
09:00 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Had some opportunities to pitch better.
09:02 --> 09:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Didn't pitch better.
09:03 --> 09:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Bryce Miller, could have I guess pitch longer, didn't pitch longer, stuff I thought was okay today.
09:09 --> 09:10 [SPEAKER_00]: The VLO was up for Bryce.
09:11 --> 09:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought the stuff overall looked good.
09:12 --> 09:14 [SPEAKER_00]: He's just when he was throwing it over the plate.
09:14 --> 09:14 [SPEAKER_00]: He was getting hit.
09:15 --> 09:21 [SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's really just a collective not good enough today for the Mariners.
09:21 --> 09:25 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's why they're going to be playing a game five because even though I sit here and I say I think the Mariners are better.
09:26 --> 09:27 [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't play well enough in game four.
09:27 --> 09:31 [SPEAKER_00]: The Tigers were the better team today and they're going to have to be Terri Scooble twice to win the series.
09:32 --> 09:35 [SPEAKER_00]: out of a lot to ask is a what it is a lot to ask.
09:35 --> 09:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Did you take anything of Dan's decision making today?
09:38 --> 09:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I know there's some talk about his pinch hitting early in the game.
09:42 --> 09:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, some pull cam zone that early felt a little, a little odd might have been a little overkill to be honest.
09:50 --> 09:51 [SPEAKER_01]: If it was in the seventh, I would have said sure.
09:51 --> 09:56 [SPEAKER_01]: It felt like Cam's own who obviously had a big hit early in the game to drive in the first run.
09:57 --> 10:05 [SPEAKER_01]: What a had more opportunities against righties as the game went on because the Tigers obviously do use a handful of righty relievers often and they threw Troy Melton for a while today.
10:06 --> 10:16 [SPEAKER_01]: So that felt a little early to pull Bryce Miller in that game and not to say that the result was bad because Garver drew a walk, but it felt a little early to pull a canzone out of the game.
10:16 --> 10:19 [SPEAKER_01]: That being said, that is not why they lost this game.
10:19 --> 10:24 [SPEAKER_01]: That is a minor part of this ball game that we can talk about briefly, but it didn't play a big factor.
10:24 --> 10:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's not even the most degree.
10:25 --> 10:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Just part of that, any of the agree, just part of the ending is Victor Robless grounding into a double play as the next batter.
10:30 --> 10:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
10:31 --> 10:35 [SPEAKER_00]: If Victor clears the bases with a double, no one's talking about Mitch Garver pinching in the fourth inning.
10:37 --> 10:39 [SPEAKER_01]: We have not been shy to talk about Dan Wilson in this series.
10:39 --> 10:45 [SPEAKER_01]: That is abundantly clear if you listen to anything we said after Game 1 during Game 1.
10:45 --> 10:52 [SPEAKER_01]: In the days past Game 1, now when I'm saying they still should have won Game 1, we have not been shy about that.
10:53 --> 10:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Today it wasn't Dan Wilson.
10:55 --> 11:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Like again, that was a minor thing with Cannesown, but ultimately it was the bullpen didn't have it today.
11:02 --> 11:06 [SPEAKER_00]: We got a lot to talk about with game five, which is coming up here on Friday.
11:06 --> 11:12 [SPEAKER_00]: If the Yankees win game four, then it'll be a 140 first pitch Pacific time.
11:12 --> 11:17 [SPEAKER_00]: If the blue jays win tonight, they're just started as of recording right now.
11:17 --> 11:20 [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be a 508 first pitch at team mobile park.
11:21 --> 11:25 [SPEAKER_00]: We got a lot to talk about that game five, but first one to tell you guys about our wonderful host here at the hall.
11:25 --> 11:30 [SPEAKER_00]: They've been awesome to us the last two days hosting these post game shows, hosting watch parties.
11:30 --> 11:31 [SPEAKER_00]: They've been a ton of fun.
11:32 --> 11:36 [SPEAKER_00]: One not so good result but regardless everyone here I think had a really fun time.
11:36 --> 11:37 [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of really good food to check out.
11:38 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_00]: We also want to thank Simply Seattle for showing up and helping promote these events and Georgetown brewing as well.
11:43 --> 11:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Come by the hall, grab a boaty.
11:46 --> 11:47 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a great thing to drink.
11:47 --> 11:49 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a great place to drink.
11:49 --> 11:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And I do hear for Game 5.
11:51 --> 11:54 [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to have a giant beer garden outside of Oxdeno Hall.
11:54 --> 11:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Regardless of start time.
11:56 --> 12:01 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you need somewhere to go hang out and drink pre-game of Game 5 against the Tigers, that'll be the spot to be.
12:02 --> 12:03 [SPEAKER_00]: want to thank the Hall for hosting us.
12:03 --> 12:04 [SPEAKER_01]: They are the best.
12:04 --> 12:04 [SPEAKER_01]: They're awesome.
12:04 --> 12:10 [SPEAKER_01]: It was packed in here both days, despite two games that were originally supposed to start in the early afternoon.
12:11 --> 12:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Mariners fans are awesome and this place is awesome because people fill it up.
12:14 --> 12:16 [SPEAKER_00]: And check out the Grand Slami Smash.
12:16 --> 12:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Very good, very good.
12:17 --> 12:18 [SPEAKER_00]: New burger the month here for October.
12:19 --> 12:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Game five.
12:21 --> 12:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Terriq Scooble versus Iassum George Kirby.
12:26 --> 12:27 [SPEAKER_00]: How are we feeling?
12:31 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I can hear it in his voice.
12:36 --> 12:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's make something very clear.
12:38 --> 12:41 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners of Face Terrix School, three separate times this year.
12:42 --> 12:46 [SPEAKER_01]: All three times this year, I have given them no chance to win any of those games.
12:46 --> 12:49 [SPEAKER_01]: I said the Mariners had no chance any time they faced Terrix School this year.
12:49 --> 12:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I have been over three.
12:50 --> 12:54 [SPEAKER_01]: So let me make this as abundantly clear as I can possibly speak.
12:54 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_01]: The game five results will be as follows.
12:57 --> 13:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Tarrick Scooble, no hitter, 19 punchouts, faces one over the minimum on a drop third strike, and the Tigers win nine nothing, season's over.
13:09 --> 13:10 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what to say to that.
13:10 --> 13:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, I've been over three on Tarrick Scooble predictions this year.
13:15 --> 13:16 [SPEAKER_01]: So that's my prediction for game four.
13:17 --> 13:24 [SPEAKER_01]: And for something to, if a person were to hypothetically be committed to a bit, for something like that to work, hypothetically.
13:25 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_01]: you have to fully buy into it.
13:27 --> 13:30 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm sitting here and saying, Terri, it's Google's thrown or no header.
13:31 --> 13:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Is he going all nine innings?
13:32 --> 13:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if a complete game, no header, 19 punchouts.
13:35 --> 13:37 [SPEAKER_01]: The only runner that reaches base is on a drop, third strike.
13:38 --> 13:41 [SPEAKER_01]: To commit to a bit, hypothetically, you have to believe it.
13:43 --> 13:46 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not quite that pessimistic as Terri's goal.
13:46 --> 13:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Here's one thing I will somewhat predict for Friday.
13:51 --> 13:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Terri Skobles pitch against Mariners three times this year.
13:54 --> 13:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Two of them he's still pitch pretty well.
13:56 --> 14:01 [SPEAKER_00]: The one end Detroit, but what the all start break was really the only game he did not pitch well and the Mariners really got to him.
14:01 --> 14:03 [SPEAKER_00]: The other two, he was still pretty good in those games.
14:03 --> 14:10 [SPEAKER_00]: And in game two, outside of two, swings to Jorge Polanco, he was pretty dominant against the Mariners lineup.
14:10 --> 14:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Couple walks, some pitch, his pitch count got up there.
14:13 --> 14:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Mariners did a good job working him, but they're able to beat him.
14:18 --> 14:19 [SPEAKER_00]: They are going to need to find a way.
14:21 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Get him, riled up, get pressure on him early in the game, not let him settle in, have him thinking, shit, take him out of the wind up, just get guys on base, to have them thinking about something besides throwing 100 miles an hour with a nasty change up and a gross slider to home play it.
14:42 --> 14:47 [SPEAKER_00]: That's gotta be, it's gotta be bouncing around his head on Friday, like they need to put the full court pressure on him.
14:49 --> 14:49 [SPEAKER_00]: to rattle things up.
14:50 --> 15:03 [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking to our friend Nick here today and his proposition is not sacrifice-bunting loyal, but he says, hey guys, look, Terri Skobo when he throws falls off really hard towards their base.
15:03 --> 15:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Every time because he's exerting so much energy going towards home play.
15:08 --> 15:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Once you lay down a button, put it, push it past him, make him move around a little bit.
15:13 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, just get him out of his routine to try and give the Mariners off and some sort of chance in this game.
15:20 --> 15:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Just to scratch across those couple runs.
15:23 --> 15:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Are you here on the Marine Lair pod talking about bunning?
15:26 --> 15:29 [SPEAKER_00]: For a base hit, I'm not saying sacrifice.
15:30 --> 15:39 [SPEAKER_00]: It's the sacrifices that are egregious, giving up outs for the sake of moving base runners, especially against the guy like Terri Scooble, is it no go?
15:39 --> 15:45 [SPEAKER_00]: But trying to get on base, like as a hit, you're not trying to get out, you're trying to get ahead.
15:46 --> 15:47 [SPEAKER_00]: And that scenario, I'm okay with it.
15:47 --> 15:54 [SPEAKER_00]: In this scenario against Terri Scooble, where you know, if you're trying to swing full speed, what are the odds of them getting hits?
15:55 --> 15:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Right, not very high.
15:58 --> 16:03 [SPEAKER_01]: In all seriousness, breaking down this game, you're right that they're gonna have to put pressure on them.
16:03 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_01]: They're gonna have to find a way to hopefully get some runs off them early, build some momentum early.
16:08 --> 16:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And they are gonna need George Kirby to have his best start of the year.
16:12 --> 16:21 [SPEAKER_01]: It feels like, I don't know if it's possible to replicate 2022 game three against the Astros George Kirby because that might have been his best start.
16:21 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Ever will that or his Baltimore start in 23 where he went nine shut out.
16:25 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_01]: but they need George to absolutely bring it in game five.
16:29 --> 16:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And even if he only goes or and if he doesn't quite do that and he only goes five endings let's say, they're gonna need to piece some other things together.
16:36 --> 16:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Besides Bryce Miller, all hands are gonna be on deck for this game.
16:40 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_01]: To the point where we may see Logan Gilbert for an ending or two.
16:43 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_01]: He's never thrown out of the bullpen before, but similar to George Kirby in 22 against the Blue Jays, you know Logan's stuff is really good.
16:49 --> 16:50 [SPEAKER_01]: It can play up in the bullpen.
16:51 --> 16:53 [SPEAKER_01]: If they can get a couple of endings out of him, why the hell not?
16:55 --> 16:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
16:56 --> 17:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the pitchers that will throw in game five are George Kirby, the four lever charms in a nine in a game.
17:04 --> 17:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be a George Kirby, four lever charms in Logan Gilbert.
17:08 --> 17:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Would so Kirby only goes four?
17:10 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_00]: No, some combination of the four lever charms in Logan Gilbert need to get the final outs.
17:15 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Ah.
17:16 --> 17:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
17:17 --> 17:18 [SPEAKER_00]: However, you're going to piece them together.
17:19 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Matchups.
17:21 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Like however they feel like they want to shuffle those around those are the pitchers in a nine any game throwing in game five I can't see anyone else doing it.
17:29 --> 17:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I can't see Luis Castillo pitching out of the pen It does not feel like his stuff ticks up enough where he has enough swing and miss Where he's gonna be that much better out of the pen and worth it for the Mariners Logan gober though I'm expecting 99 to 100 miles an hour with that splitter being disgusting out of the ball pen
17:47 --> 17:57 [SPEAKER_00]: full effort for one inning to try and send this team to the next round, because if they go and get that lead early, the Mariners need to do everything possible to rent the Tigers from scoring runs.
17:57 --> 18:02 [SPEAKER_00]: They have the ballpark working in their favor, and they need to put every arm on the mound that gives them the best chance possible.
18:02 --> 18:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Every single one, if Carlos Forg is pitches in game five, I'm gonna throw something.
18:07 --> 18:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm serious.
18:09 --> 18:09 [SPEAKER_00]: No more.
18:09 --> 18:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think we're both enough.
18:14 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_01]: But I'll ask again why he continues to throw in games that have any level of importance or close scoring in the playoffs.
18:25 --> 18:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, the today's game was out of hand, but it was, it was on, but it was still only a four run game.
18:30 --> 18:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that's nothing, but teams have come back from four runs down.
18:36 --> 18:37 [SPEAKER_01]: And Vargas was in.
18:40 --> 18:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, he should not be pitching in game five.
18:42 --> 18:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to see him pitching in game five.
18:44 --> 18:48 [SPEAKER_00]: The Mariners cannot enter the sixth or seventh inning of Wednesday's game or a Friday's game time.
18:49 --> 18:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Can't do it.
18:50 --> 18:51 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to see a tie score.
18:51 --> 18:52 [SPEAKER_00]: They need to be lead it.
18:52 --> 18:55 [SPEAKER_00]: For me, if you'll good about winning, they need to have a lead.
18:56 --> 18:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen just too many little, sometimes little things of the tigers.
19:00 --> 19:02 [SPEAKER_00]: We're some, the Mariners might make an error.
19:02 --> 19:17 [SPEAKER_00]: As we've seen defensive miscuse in every game in the series from the Mariners' events, whether it be something as simple as Randy Miss playing a ball in the outfield, or Josh Nieler not scooping something at first, or JP Crawford's biking a throw, things have happened.
19:17 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't want that to cause the Mariners to lose a series.
19:22 --> 19:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Even though that might be their flaw,
19:26 --> 19:34 [SPEAKER_00]: entering the 5th or 6th inning with the lead or 6th or 7th inning is what I said it's going to help mitigate any possible fuck up.
19:35 --> 19:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's right.
19:37 --> 19:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I just I'm sitting here trying to give analysis from it for it and we've given some really I'm just sitting here with nerves all I can do and sit here with nerves.
19:48 --> 19:51 [SPEAKER_01]: We've never been alive for a winner take all game five.
19:52 --> 19:52 [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be
19:55 --> 19:56 [SPEAKER_00]: It's all you live through, 95.
19:56 --> 19:58 [SPEAKER_00]: This is probably what it felt like though.
19:58 --> 20:00 [SPEAKER_00]: You might have been a little more confident because you just won two in a row.
20:02 --> 20:03 [SPEAKER_00]: We were in a life for that.
20:03 --> 20:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Have no idea, no idea what that's like.
20:05 --> 20:23 [SPEAKER_00]: All I know is the Mariners need to show up on Friday and they need to win otherwise who's gonna be a lot of questions about how this series went down, most specifically game, won the decision with Carrie Carpenter or more so the fact you, I think the Mariners are better than the Tigers and they should not lose a series to them.
20:24 --> 20:25 [SPEAKER_00]: That does not mean the Mariners will win on Friday.
20:26 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_00]: I want them to win.
20:27 --> 20:29 [SPEAKER_00]: The odds are about dead even right now.
20:30 --> 20:31 [SPEAKER_00]: things happen in the playoff.
20:31 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you lose to teams that you're not you're you're better than because you just didn't play as well.
20:36 --> 20:38 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want that to be the Mariners.
20:38 --> 20:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, hell, the Dodgers a couple of years ago lost the series to the Diamondbacks.
20:41 --> 20:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I got swept by the Diamondbacks.
20:44 --> 20:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it happens.
20:45 --> 20:46 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want that happened.
20:46 --> 20:48 [SPEAKER_00]: That happened to the Mariners on Friday because
20:50 --> 20:55 [SPEAKER_00]: There's gonna be people who have a hard time calling the net of this a success if they lose on Friday.
20:55 --> 20:58 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I will not be calling this season a success if they lose.
20:59 --> 21:06 [SPEAKER_01]: You, when you get the two seed and you get a first round by and you play a team that is significantly worse than you in the Tigers.
21:07 --> 21:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't say here and call that a success.
21:08 --> 21:08 [SPEAKER_00]: You need to win a series.
21:09 --> 21:10 [SPEAKER_00]: You need to get to the championship series at least.
21:10 --> 21:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
21:12 --> 21:16 [SPEAKER_01]: It's been 25 years since I've gotten to the C.S.
21:16 --> 21:17 [SPEAKER_01]: to the semi-finals.
21:18 --> 21:20 [SPEAKER_01]: 25 years, 24 years if you want to be exact.
21:20 --> 21:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Come on, man, like this is the best team they've had since then.
21:24 --> 21:30 [SPEAKER_01]: They got to find a way, send your prayers the next two days to find some way for the marriage to go get to Terrac School.
21:30 --> 21:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to be able to decompress it all tomorrow?
21:32 --> 21:35 [SPEAKER_01]: No, like what are we even going to do tomorrow?
21:36 --> 21:37 [SPEAKER_01]: You need to take a nap.
21:39 --> 21:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I am on an almost no sleep, it's true.
21:43 --> 21:43 [SPEAKER_01]: something.
21:44 --> 21:45 [SPEAKER_01]: And you know we not think about the Mariners.
21:45 --> 21:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, and you know what doesn't help.
21:47 --> 21:48 [SPEAKER_01]: You know what doesn't help.
21:49 --> 21:59 [SPEAKER_01]: The fact that I usually catch up on all this sleep during the weekends, because obviously for those that don't know, most of you probably do, that I'm up at 430 most days to get on the radio.
22:00 --> 22:03 [SPEAKER_01]: During the week, Saturdays and Sundays, I have to make up for sleep.
22:04 --> 22:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, Friday night, they lost that ridiculous game one, which one I will never get over if they lose the series.
22:10 --> 22:14 [SPEAKER_01]: And to everybody's dismay, probably, I will be talking about that forever.
22:15 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I will never, ever, ever stop talking about that game.
22:17 --> 22:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And that decision, if they lose the series, ever.
22:20 --> 22:26 [SPEAKER_01]: And with that, if we're gonna get in the trust tree here, and I'm gonna be a little bit vulnerable and share some things.
22:28 --> 22:29 [SPEAKER_01]: It took me till five a.m.
22:29 --> 22:30 [SPEAKER_01]: on Friday night to fall asleep.
22:31 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I was so mad.
22:33 --> 22:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry Saturday night.
22:34 --> 22:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Saturday night.
22:35 --> 22:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Not Friday after game one.
22:36 --> 22:42 [SPEAKER_01]: So along with already getting up so early during the week, I lost one day of actual sleep over the weekend.
22:42 --> 22:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really running on view because I was so mad and so furious after game one.
22:47 --> 22:49 [SPEAKER_01]: I did not fall asleep until five a.m.
22:49 --> 22:49 [SPEAKER_01]: It was three.
22:49 --> 22:51 [SPEAKER_01]: It was three o'clock in the morning.
22:51 --> 22:53 [SPEAKER_01]: We had gotten done posting our reaction podcast.
22:53 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_01]: The game one.
22:54 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It was up.
22:54 --> 22:55 [SPEAKER_01]: It was running.
22:56 --> 22:59 [SPEAKER_01]: And the last thing on my mind was falling asleep.
22:59 --> 23:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I was so mad over that game and that decision I just couldn't do anything So I'm on yes, I'm on like no sleep.
23:04 --> 23:11 [SPEAKER_00]: So yes, I'm stressing that's why I think we need the Mariners to win on Friday Otherwise, I'm worried I'm worried we might lose Lyle I mean
23:13 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Start getting your bets in now people, start getting the odds out.
23:15 --> 23:17 [SPEAKER_01]: What am I going to talk about more of this offseason?
23:17 --> 23:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Signing Kyle Tucker or the Game One decision at the Mariners lose this series?
23:21 --> 23:22 [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be really close.
23:22 --> 23:25 [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be really, really close.
23:26 --> 23:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Except that eventually, the Kyle Tucker talks going to have to end because if he doesn't sign with the AMC, well, but for some reason in an alternate university, didn't?
23:36 --> 23:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, then eventually, it's going to end because you're going to sign some eight plus to your deal.
23:40 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_01]: This is never going to end if the Mariners lose this game.
23:43 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm never ever stopped talking about that game one decision.
23:47 --> 23:54 [SPEAKER_00]: So the plan for this weekend, taping wise, recording wise, episode wise, will have a post game show on Friday.
23:55 --> 23:56 [SPEAKER_00]: We will be talking about it.
23:57 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Regardless of outcome, and then we will be recording sometimes Sunday night.
24:02 --> 24:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Regardless.
24:04 --> 24:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Just depends when the episode comes out, whether or not they advance or not.
24:07 --> 24:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So that's the recording schedule.
24:08 --> 24:10 [SPEAKER_00]: It will be roughly the same throughout the weekend.
24:10 --> 24:13 [SPEAKER_00]: And then what more updates as we come along again.
24:15 --> 24:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Buckle up, buckle up for Friday.
24:17 --> 24:21 [SPEAKER_00]: It is gonna be, it's really gonna be something.
24:22 --> 24:22 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm very stressed.
24:23 --> 24:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I'm quite lials level, but I'm nervous or Friday if I'm gonna be a 100% transparent for you.
24:30 --> 24:36 [SPEAKER_00]: As good as I feel of the Mariners facing the Detroit Tigers, Friday has me nervous, cause something can go wrong.
24:37 --> 24:38 [SPEAKER_00]: And it's as the Mariners were talking about.
24:38 --> 24:41 [SPEAKER_00]: So we're gonna have to see 140 first pitch
24:45 --> 25:01 [SPEAKER_01]: five o'clock first pitch if the blue jays went tonight cross the fingers people cross our fingers it's all we can do at this point for the next couple days and send your prayers send your prayers go beat school for four time go do it
25:03 --> 25:04 [SPEAKER_01]: and we'll talk to you on Friday.
25:04 --> 25:07 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, that's just about wraps up this edition of the Marine Lair podcast.
