01:01 --> 01:11 [SPEAKER_00]: And we will give you to this episode of the Marine Lair podcast, part of the Just Baseball Podcast Network, recording on Wednesday evening October 15th, the stinker of all stinkers.
01:12 --> 01:14 [SPEAKER_00]: I think this day is cursed, October 15th, Lion.
01:15 --> 01:20 [SPEAKER_00]: The other October 15th baseball game we have gotten was an 18 inning playoff loss.
01:20 --> 01:25 [SPEAKER_00]: So you have an 18 inning loss and then getting clobbered at home by the blue Jason game three.
01:26 --> 01:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Both fucking awful.
01:29 --> 01:32 [SPEAKER_01]: on two glorious fall days, too.
01:32 --> 01:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Remember that 18 inning game?
01:33 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_01]: It was 78 degrees or something at first pitch.
01:36 --> 01:39 [SPEAKER_01]: That year that summer was delayed and it was summer weather in October.
01:40 --> 01:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't quite that here tonight, but it was really nice to start the game.
01:44 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, devastating result.
01:47 --> 01:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, cause all I could hear is in the Blue J's bats.
01:50 --> 01:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, that's bats.
01:51 --> 01:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Somebody did tell me, cause I forgot about it and tell the middle of the game and someone's like, you know, this is the three-year anniversary of the 18 inning game?
01:58 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
02:00 --> 02:01 [SPEAKER_01]: As our pal Frank the tank would put it.
02:01 --> 02:04 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, that fucking sucks.
02:04 --> 02:04 [SPEAKER_01]: God damn it.
02:04 --> 02:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know.
02:05 --> 02:08 [SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of all I've got for this game.
02:09 --> 02:10 [SPEAKER_01]: You kind of have to flush it.
02:10 --> 02:11 [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have to move past it.
02:11 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_01]: What do you want us to say?
02:12 --> 02:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it sucks.
02:13 --> 02:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Every part about it sucks.
02:14 --> 02:16 [SPEAKER_01]: They weren't getting balls out of the infield after the first inning.
02:17 --> 02:18 [SPEAKER_01]: George Kirby didn't have it tonight.
02:18 --> 02:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Both of them didn't have it tonight.
02:20 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Dan Wilson didn't have his best night as a manager like nobody really had their A game tonight.
02:25 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_00]: The swing between Julio Rodriguez is home run in the first inning, and then the ensuing five innings is about as big as I ever could have imagined in this playoffs.
02:35 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, seriously, I was on the moon when Julio hit that ball.
02:39 --> 02:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Everything seemed to be lining up perfectly in my mind for what I had imagined this game.
02:44 --> 02:46 [SPEAKER_00]: And boy was I wrong.
02:46 --> 02:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to put my hand up right now.
02:48 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_00]: I was so wrong about Shane Bieber.
02:51 --> 02:54 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought he, I thought he was like Scherzer level cooked.
02:54 --> 02:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I seriously did.
02:55 --> 02:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I watched that first inning.
02:57 --> 02:58 [SPEAKER_00]: I was thoroughly unimpressed.
02:58 --> 02:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought the fastball wasn't moving.
03:00 --> 03:01 [SPEAKER_00]: I thought a slider didn't have bite to it.
03:01 --> 03:02 [SPEAKER_00]: He didn't throw his change up.
03:02 --> 03:03 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, oh.
03:04 --> 03:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, Josh Newler builds you out by swinging at a picture, foot above the strike zone.
03:09 --> 03:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Polanco just misses hitting one out as well.
03:11 --> 03:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, it was this close, this close to like a four run first inning potentially.
03:17 --> 03:19 [SPEAKER_00]: And then man did he shut the door on the Mariners offense.
03:20 --> 03:22 [SPEAKER_00]: One ball left the end field.
03:23 --> 03:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Through six from innings two through six.
03:26 --> 03:26 [SPEAKER_00]: One.
03:27 --> 03:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he got 17 whiffs on the night, which is pretty good.
03:32 --> 03:34 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not astronomical, but that's pretty good.
03:34 --> 03:38 [SPEAKER_01]: After that first inning, that vintage Shane Beaver slider, oh, you saw it.
03:38 --> 03:41 [SPEAKER_01]: That was very, very much on display of the rest of his start.
03:41 --> 03:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
03:42 --> 03:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't ever quite on your train about Shane Beaver.
03:44 --> 03:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I agree that in his seven starts, he was fine.
03:47 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, he had the three-five ERA.
03:49 --> 03:52 [SPEAKER_01]: FIP was almost 100 points below where as the RAA was.
03:52 --> 03:53 [SPEAKER_01]: He's gotten hit hard.
03:53 --> 03:58 [SPEAKER_01]: There were reasons to believe he might not be great in this playoff out, especially given how the first one went.
03:59 --> 04:02 [SPEAKER_01]: But I wasn't quite on your train about, oh, he's absolutely cooked.
04:02 --> 04:03 [SPEAKER_01]: He's not that old.
04:03 --> 04:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he had the Tommy John, but he's got enough starts to work back into it.
04:08 --> 04:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And he proved that he is very much not cooked this out of him.
04:12 --> 04:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he did.
04:12 --> 04:30 [SPEAKER_00]: I just thought this was going to be Like he just still doesn't have it because of the injury and the fact that he's he's barely been back for two months from the surgery pitching him in in in the big leagues less than two months Guys sometimes takes a sometimes take a of entire year to get back to full strength
04:32 --> 04:39 [SPEAKER_00]: It, but for Shane Bieber took two months because he was hammering the strikes on with his fastball.
04:39 --> 04:45 [SPEAKER_00]: After that first inning where he was leaving it over the plate, he was done up the corners, the Mariners couldn't touch his slider, the change up was really good.
04:46 --> 05:01 [SPEAKER_00]: And the worst combination possible for me, seriously, for me and the Mariners hitters at 526 PM-Lio in that first inning after Polanco hit that double, I tweet, Shane Bieber has zero juice.
05:04 --> 05:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Once the sixth inning rolled around and Shane Bieber polished off, another masterful inning against the Mariners lineup, I officially asserted myself an in-game tweeting ban for the rest of the series.
05:19 --> 05:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you could have stopped with this.
05:20 --> 05:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're not good at this stuff.
05:22 --> 05:26 [SPEAKER_01]: ALDS, oh, I'd way rather play the Tigers than the Guardians.
05:26 --> 05:28 [SPEAKER_00]: That's the whole, they beat the Tigers, buddy.
05:28 --> 05:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's not, let's, let's not spin this back on me.
05:32 --> 05:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, surely the cakewalk to that series win.
05:36 --> 05:39 [SPEAKER_01]: That was a real, real soothing game vibe we watched.
05:39 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_01]: All people remember as the result.
05:42 --> 05:45 [SPEAKER_01]: I think they would have beaten the guardians in a lot less time with a lot less stress.
05:45 --> 05:47 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'd we rather play the tigers than the guardians.
05:47 --> 05:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the blue jays, Shane Beaver's cooked.
05:50 --> 05:50 [SPEAKER_01]: They're going to kill him.
05:51 --> 05:52 [SPEAKER_01]: If it's a go-in-well.
05:54 --> 05:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Should I pull what, um... What?
05:56 --> 05:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Your tarx scooble?
05:58 --> 05:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Bit on churchwood, Marlon.
05:59 --> 06:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Say churchwood is going to throw eight shut-out.
06:03 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_00]: The reversing.
06:03 --> 06:04 [SPEAKER_01]: The reversing does work.
06:04 --> 06:06 [SPEAKER_01]: The reversing does work sometimes.
06:07 --> 06:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Worked with scooble.
06:09 --> 06:18 [SPEAKER_00]: I think Max Schurser is going to throw eight innings and strike out 15 tomorrow and his fastball is going to flash back to the late 2010s and it's going to throw about 98 99 miles an hour.
06:18 --> 06:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
06:19 --> 06:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's, that wouldn't be good.
06:23 --> 06:23 [SPEAKER_01]: That would not be good.
06:24 --> 06:24 [SPEAKER_01]: No.
06:24 --> 06:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
06:24 --> 06:25 [SPEAKER_01]: No, we're not.
06:25 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_01]: So here's the spot the mariners are now in.
06:28 --> 06:29 [SPEAKER_01]: They lose two one.
06:30 --> 06:33 [SPEAKER_01]: In all seriousness, you got to understand, this Blue J seems really good.
06:33 --> 06:35 [SPEAKER_01]: They're the number one scene in the American League.
06:35 --> 06:36 [SPEAKER_01]: They're top five offends in baseball.
06:37 --> 06:38 [SPEAKER_01]: They've got a superstar like Blattie.
06:39 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_01]: They've got a guy like springers had one of the best years in baseball.
06:41 --> 06:44 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been arguably the best DH in baseball this year.
06:44 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_01]: This is a good team with a lot of really scrappy hitters that may not be superstars, but are good, barger, Kirk, Lucas, earning Clement.
06:54 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a good offense.
06:56 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_01]: So, to sweep a team like that was gonna be really tough.
06:59 --> 07:00 [SPEAKER_01]: This is an ALCS.
07:00 --> 07:04 [SPEAKER_01]: There's four teams left in the entire MLB, and all the baseball.
07:05 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Lugies are really good.
07:07 --> 07:11 [SPEAKER_01]: All that said, Mariners can salvage all this if they just win tomorrow.
07:12 --> 07:13 [SPEAKER_01]: You gotta light up Mac shows in tomorrow.
07:14 --> 07:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Because with everything we just talked about with Shane Bieber.
07:18 --> 07:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Max Scherzer is 40 years old.
07:20 --> 07:30 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been injured a lot of the year, and all seriousness, he is not even close to the same Max Scherzer that he once was, even as of just a couple of years ago, you got to hit him tomorrow.
07:30 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_01]: If you can't lie to Max Scherzer tomorrow, you can't jump on Scherzer after a tough offensive night here tonight after the Blue Jays put up 13 after your in your home ballpark.
07:40 --> 07:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, then you don't deserve to win game four if you can't lie to Max Scherzer tomorrow.
07:45 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_00]: don't deserve to win game 4, how do you deserve to win the rest of the series?
07:49 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to give yourself an opportunity too because you're on those first two games, but then it gets a whole lot harder if you don't be chers or tomorrow, because then instead of beating Scherzer, then you have to be cosmic, and then you have to be your savage again, and then you'd need to be Shane Bieber again.
08:06 --> 08:07 [SPEAKER_00]: and company, right?
08:07 --> 08:08 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want that.
08:09 --> 08:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Like you want the pitching matchups to stay in your favor and they will stay in your favor.
08:13 --> 08:22 [SPEAKER_00]: If you beat Mac Scherzer tomorrow and you head to Game 5 up 3-1 with your puttout hopefully Brian will on the mound on Friday.
08:22 --> 08:24 [SPEAKER_00]: For however long he's gonna throw.
08:24 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Apparently he was heading out to the bullpen today in the middle of the game.
08:28 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, wait.
08:30 --> 08:33 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what was going on there, but I'll tell you what.
08:33 --> 08:42 [SPEAKER_01]: If we had seen him enter that game with the team down four to five runs, you want to talk about an explosion, I would have lost my mind, head of the enter that game, and not in a good way.
08:47 --> 08:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, back to my point.
08:48 --> 08:51 [SPEAKER_00]: I hope Ryan moves starts on Friday leading three to one.
08:52 --> 08:56 [SPEAKER_00]: You're last massive pitching advantage, massive.
08:56 --> 08:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Like a chasm pitching advantage.
08:57 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Like what I had, for some reason, imagine in my head tonight that fell flat on its face, you actually have a pretty big pitching event tomorrow.
09:07 --> 09:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Maxures are 41 years old.
09:08 --> 09:09 [UNKNOWN]: 41.
09:09 --> 09:16 [SPEAKER_00]: The Mariners offense, by the way, an offense that is not scored five runs at home in 24 years.
09:19 --> 09:25 [SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, just to give you the quick synopsis on Showsers' numbers for the year, this is not a knock on MacShowser.
09:25 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_01]: He should be a unanimous Hall of Famer, that goes without being said.
09:29 --> 09:35 [SPEAKER_01]: But his 20-25 stats at age 41, he's made 17 starts, as the area is 5-19, his fifth is nearly 5, his whip is 1-3, he's only thrown 85 innings, and as the area plus is 18% below the average.
09:44 --> 09:47 [SPEAKER_01]: This is not Hall of Fame, Mac Shores, or your phasing.
09:47 --> 09:51 [SPEAKER_01]: This is a guy that maybe making the last start of his career tomorrow.
09:52 --> 09:53 [SPEAKER_01]: You gotta go hit him.
09:55 --> 10:00 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna stamp that every game from here on out the rest of the season is Must-Win.
10:00 --> 10:05 [SPEAKER_00]: And why I say that is because I don't really feel like the Mariners treated tonight as a Must-Win game.
10:07 --> 10:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't feel like it.
10:08 --> 10:09 [SPEAKER_01]: The way they
10:10 --> 10:32 [SPEAKER_01]: got the quick hook on Logan Gilbert and game two when they realized he didn't have his best day and they went right to their bullpen arms compared to game three where I mean you're just letting Kirby wear it especially when it got some point in the fifth inning will the fifth inning when bloody took him deep I thought like that was like what is going on it was one thing in the fourth I thought he should have been should have might be harsh
10:33 --> 10:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I thought there was a very, very valid argument for him to just be done after three and things.
10:37 --> 10:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Even in the middle of the third, if you were going to treat that game like I must win, or if you got guys on base after it was three to two, you make a call.
10:45 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_01]: It was a hit.
10:46 --> 10:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I was scratching my head a little bit when they left him in for springer to hit the home run in the fourth, and then when he gave up the home run of Latin in the fifth, I'm like, what is happening here?
10:55 --> 11:01 [SPEAKER_00]: not not treating the game with much urgency, which if that's how you've decided you want to manage the game going into it.
11:02 --> 11:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I guess it is a seven game series to remind people seven games you're going to use your pictures a lot more, especially if you go all seven, you want your guys at peak availability for when you'll need them and for a game like today, I mean,
11:19 --> 11:26 [SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to lose, you might as well have your picture cover another couple innings, and that's exactly how it turned out.
11:26 --> 11:29 [SPEAKER_00]: If this is game six, George Kirby's out of the game in the second inning.
11:30 --> 11:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Although they were winning in this game, and they still had a chance to win.
11:34 --> 11:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you have to...
11:36 --> 11:38 [SPEAKER_01]: aren't you trying to win a world series?
11:38 --> 11:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to kill anybody on the coaching staff for this because you're right.
11:41 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_01]: It's different than a five game series.
11:43 --> 11:52 [SPEAKER_01]: You have to save arms a little bit more, but there wasn't anybody warming in the bullpen during that until about the late 4th to 5th inning.
11:53 --> 11:57 [SPEAKER_01]: So there wasn't really anybody warming and it didn't seem like Kirby had it.
11:58 --> 12:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like, look, ultimately what this game comes down to is, it's not animals, and it's, the Mariners didn't score meaningful runs after the first inning, and George Kirby just didn't have it.
12:10 --> 12:19 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what, that's what this game comes down to, but if you're looking at decision-making, I just feel like you got to manage these things with a little more urgency than that.
12:19 --> 12:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Because they're like, today, what's that?
12:23 --> 12:26 [SPEAKER_00]: In a future opportunity, or today, we'll both, again, I just thought,
12:27 --> 12:31 [SPEAKER_01]: You saw by the fourth inning or so that Kirby didn't have it and you could have pulled them.
12:31 --> 12:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Do you think urgency would have solved anything today because honestly, I don't.
12:35 --> 12:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, and again, this is why I'm not sitting here doing what we were doing after Game 1 of the ALDS about a bullpend decision or a non-bullpend decision and a George Kirby start for that matter.
12:43 --> 12:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Because you're right, it would not have likely made all the difference in the world.
12:48 --> 12:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Now you don't know how a butterfly effect might work if you're using levered yarns to keep the game close.
12:52 --> 12:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe the offense is a little more focused, who knows?
12:55 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_01]: But you're right.
12:56 --> 13:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, until late in the game, the offense had two runs that didn't score from the second inning through the seventh inning, the BlueJays piled it on.
13:02 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what this is about.
13:04 --> 13:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Offends into enough, BlueJays offense absolutely brought it tonight.
13:08 --> 13:21 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what it's more about, but it is just a philosophy in a post-season that I'd like to see more of, like they did in Game 2 and like they didn't game five of the ALDS where, look, you gotta play every game to win.
13:21 --> 13:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Quick hook.
13:22 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_01]: God doesn't have it, you can't, you just can't let him ride forever.
13:26 --> 13:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Which is very odd to see, Vlad, he hit that home run off him in the fifth inning when it felt like, yeah, just wasn't his day, and it could look.
13:32 --> 13:34 [SPEAKER_01]: George Kirby's other two postseason starts, he's been awesome.
13:35 --> 13:36 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been a huge reason they're here.
13:37 --> 13:38 [SPEAKER_01]: But today, he just wasn't his day.
13:39 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, it wasn't Logan's day in game two.
13:42 --> 14:02 [SPEAKER_00]: not only was it not as day that was the worst arguably the worst statistical starter mariners had this year there's not been a single mariner I saw this tweet online I think it was for Matt Loveless just to give credit because I did not come up with this that was the first time all year a mariner starter had given up eight hits and eight runs in a start all season
14:05 --> 14:07 [SPEAKER_00]: and it comes in the American League championship series.
14:08 --> 14:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the Mariners thought he was going to turn it around at some point.
14:11 --> 14:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Like the fourth inning was better.
14:13 --> 14:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Kirby was a little sharper in the fourth inning.
14:16 --> 14:19 [SPEAKER_00]: But then again, he gives up the Homer and the fifth.
14:19 --> 14:23 [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, all right, it's time here.
14:23 --> 14:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's clear that his sinker was either missing way outside or inside the lefties or who's either throwing it right down the middle and then his sliders were nowhere near the zone.
14:32 --> 14:34 [SPEAKER_00]: And that was it.
14:34 --> 14:44 [SPEAKER_00]: And if George is not pin point command against the team that makes a shit ton of contact and he doesn't generate a ton of swing and miss of he's not locating perfectly and his stuff is elevated.
14:45 --> 14:51 [SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be the end of that and the blue jays then instead of becoming a decent match of form become a nightmare match it for him.
14:51 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Total nightmare.
14:53 --> 14:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they talked about it on the broadcast Ken Rose and they'll talk about a pregame with the blue jays change their approach a little bit today.
14:59 --> 15:02 [SPEAKER_01]: More aggressive, new Kirby would be in the zone and work for him.
15:03 --> 15:05 [SPEAKER_01]: So the Mariners are going to have to adjust back a little bit in game four.
15:06 --> 15:08 [SPEAKER_01]: And it may be different with Luis on the mound who's a different pitcher.
15:08 --> 15:11 [SPEAKER_01]: He's not the strike thrower that George Kirby is.
15:11 --> 15:12 [SPEAKER_01]: He'll pitch outside the zone a little bit more.
15:13 --> 15:17 [SPEAKER_01]: But Bluejaz had something clicked tonight and he just can't let that momentum keep swinging.
15:18 --> 15:22 [SPEAKER_00]: They were they were talking about how the Bluejaz had really struggled against Sinkers in the last half of the season.
15:22 --> 15:26 [SPEAKER_00]: That the Mariners had a ton of success with Sinkers in the first two games of the series.
15:26 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Not as much success here in game three.
15:29 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, pitch just cast you a throw a lot.
15:32 --> 15:39 [SPEAKER_00]: So that'll be interesting how Luis is going to go approach them.
15:40 --> 15:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Talk about making changes, Lyle, some conversation online about lineup changes.
15:45 --> 15:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Would you think about doing anything for this lineup?
15:49 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Because there has been successful games in the playoffs for this Mariners lineup.
15:54 --> 16:00 [SPEAKER_00]: But there has been a handful of guys who have not hit very well whether or not the lineup is hit or not.
16:01 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, the Civic Randy Randy hit a home run today in garbage time.
16:06 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise he's been pretty cold.
16:07 --> 16:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Has looked right at the plate.
16:09 --> 16:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Gino's been a trotchist.
16:10 --> 16:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Dom canzone has also been really bad at the plate.
16:13 --> 16:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Those three guys and my missing someone.
16:15 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Robless.
16:16 --> 16:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and Vic.
16:17 --> 16:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and Vic is Vic did not also not look good.
16:20 --> 16:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Also, I feel like he tweaked his shoulder running to that wall.
16:23 --> 16:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it was a shoulder.
16:25 --> 16:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it was a side.
16:25 --> 16:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
16:27 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_00]: That would make sense.
16:28 --> 16:31 [SPEAKER_00]: That would make a little bit more sense, but he was Winston coming out of the crowd.
16:31 --> 16:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Regardless, it doesn't help his bad at all.
16:33 --> 16:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Would you consider changing anything?
16:37 --> 16:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Tim Booth of the Seattle Times put this out there.
16:39 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_01]: And if you were going to change anything, I feel like it would have to be this.
16:42 --> 16:43 [SPEAKER_01]: So let's float it out there.
16:44 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Would you consider sitting canzone down because he is really had a tough go of it in this postseason?
16:50 --> 16:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And by sitting canzone down, you can move Polo to DH, Polaco, and you put Leo Reeves at second.
16:56 --> 16:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Other than that, I don't really know what changes you can make.
16:59 --> 17:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Gino, you don't have another third basements.
17:00 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_01]: You're just going to have to wear that one with him.
17:03 --> 17:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Same thing with Randy and Leffield.
17:04 --> 17:06 [SPEAKER_01]: You don't really have another guy that's going to play out there.
17:07 --> 17:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Ray Lee's not on the postseason roster.
17:09 --> 17:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And he's had plenty of his own struggles.
17:11 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think you're taking out Vic for Miles, Master Boni.
17:16 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_01]: That leaves really one of the second.
17:20 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_01]: with that?
17:21 --> 17:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Unless you're a sicko.
17:22 --> 17:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
17:23 --> 17:24 [SPEAKER_01]: So that kind of leaves one option.
17:24 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it
17:48 --> 17:53 [SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to put revost in there, you're also going to have a lefty facing maxures or because I think that's what you need to focus on right now.
17:53 --> 18:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Now Leo is going to give you more versatility throughout the game when either lefty or righty relievers come in because he's a switch hitter.
18:01 --> 18:05 [SPEAKER_00]: He's also going to provide a little bit more on defense from wire to wire.
18:05 --> 18:09 [SPEAKER_00]: However, he won't be available if you need him to run in the game.
18:09 --> 18:11 [SPEAKER_00]: He won't be available if you want him to play a different position.
18:11 --> 18:16 [SPEAKER_00]: I guess you could always move guys around, but you'd probably rather just keep him at
18:18 --> 18:20 [SPEAKER_00]: if he goes to third base for some reason.
18:20 --> 18:22 [SPEAKER_01]: But he'll already be in the games if you need to run.
18:22 --> 18:23 [SPEAKER_01]: You could use him to run.
18:23 --> 18:25 [SPEAKER_01]: And if you need a pen's runner, you can just put a master bounty.
18:26 --> 18:33 [SPEAKER_00]: So the other thing to point out with this is that maxures are does have like a little bit of platoon spits splits this year.
18:33 --> 18:35 [SPEAKER_00]: It's about a hundred points of OPS difference.
18:35 --> 18:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Eight fifty versus seven fifty.
18:38 --> 18:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Rides have the lower one, lefties have the higher one.
18:41 --> 18:45 [SPEAKER_01]: and and Leo actually hits lefties better than he hits righties.
18:45 --> 18:50 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not drastic but it's got about 700 OPS against righties and 750 OPS against lefties.
18:51 --> 18:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's a small sample, but those are the numbers.
18:53 --> 18:56 [SPEAKER_00]: See, you do get better in the field when you put Leo in there.
18:57 --> 19:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Just he's he's better to fender than Planco and someone argue he for one game could be a better bat than Dom canzone.
19:04 --> 19:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Now canzone has more pop and more upside as bat has been the
19:10 --> 19:12 [SPEAKER_00]: But man, he is looked pretty lost at the plate.
19:13 --> 19:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Not a lot of hard contact.
19:14 --> 19:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Not a lot of good swings, just.
19:19 --> 19:25 [SPEAKER_01]: So the deal with Camzone is, when he makes contact, it's gonna be loud, it can go a long way.
19:25 --> 19:26 [SPEAKER_01]: He can do damage.
19:26 --> 19:31 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's what he's done a lot of the second half, really since he got recalled during that Diamondback series.
19:32 --> 19:58 [SPEAKER_01]: where Dom can't own runs into a lot of issues is he does not have the world's greatest approach he chases at a lot of pitches there's swing and miss in his game and he will get into these spurts from time to time like we're seeing right now where when he's not making that loud contact you're seeing a lot of swings on pitches that are way off the plate including spin and off speed that bounces way out in front you see that a lot in the blue j's series so far you've seen
20:02 --> 20:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Would they make a change this late in the year?
20:05 --> 20:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Dan Wilson doesn't seem to have many knee-jerk reactions.
20:07 --> 20:11 [SPEAKER_01]: So if I had to bet on something, I'd say no, because Dan hasn't really done that all year.
20:12 --> 20:19 [SPEAKER_01]: But again, he's had to manage a little bit differently with his pitchers in the postseason, because you just don't have time to wait around.
20:19 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if Leo Reva's gives you a little bit of a spark off the bench, and you can move Polanco to DH.
20:27 --> 20:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it has to be a thought, a consideration.
20:35 --> 20:38 [SPEAKER_01]: So the idea is moving Randy down here because he just hasn't had it.
20:38 --> 20:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Me, good.
20:39 --> 20:40 [SPEAKER_01]: What have you put Josh Nailer at lead off?
20:43 --> 20:44 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'd be fine with that too.
20:44 --> 20:50 [SPEAKER_00]: My worry with moving JP or Nailer up is then you'd probably have Randy and Gino hitting X to each other, which is not good.
20:51 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want two Rites who don't have it at the plate.
20:55 --> 20:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Who strike out a lot at times, same which right next to each other.
20:58 --> 21:02 [SPEAKER_00]: That's how the, that's how the 223 Baroners miss the playoffs, right there.
21:03 --> 21:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Any chance that Randy's home run tonight.
21:05 --> 21:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I know it was in garbage time and I know it was an absolute mistake pitch of a cookie that he crushed, but any chance that could just get him going just picks his confidence up a little bit.
21:15 --> 21:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Very totally that's a chance totally 100%.
21:18 --> 21:23 [SPEAKER_00]: But I think pictures are going to be a little bit more dialed in when the scores closer.
21:24 --> 21:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Probably the last time Randy hit a home run has been a long time it has been a long time.
21:31 --> 21:53 [SPEAKER_01]: That was his first home run since September the 9th Why and so since September first he has He had one home are going into tonight Mariners did this whole hot stretch to finish the season really without him Right, and they want to pull at least from a home run perspective and they want to post these in series essentially without his bat You can look at this with two ways it
21:55 --> 21:58 [SPEAKER_00]: The way number one, JP will give you a little bit more on base.
21:58 --> 22:03 [SPEAKER_00]: He seems a little bit more comfortable with the plate right now, but on the other side, the Mariners win by hitting home runs.
22:04 --> 22:05 [SPEAKER_00]: That's what they are as an offense.
22:05 --> 22:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Randy gives you a much better chance at hitting home runs than JP Crawford does.
22:09 --> 22:10 [SPEAKER_00]: And how the Mariners won in the playoffs?
22:11 --> 22:12 [SPEAKER_00]: They fit home runs.
22:13 --> 22:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Tell they want to all year.
22:15 --> 22:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they walk, they hit homeers.
22:17 --> 22:19 [SPEAKER_00]: You got a bounce that here.
22:21 --> 22:22 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I'd change the lineup.
22:24 --> 22:27 [SPEAKER_00]: And I doubt they did just they did just score 10 runs.
22:27 --> 22:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
22:27 --> 22:29 [SPEAKER_01]: And I doubt I doubt Dan change the lineup.
22:30 --> 22:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Dan doesn't make many lineup changes.
22:31 --> 22:38 [SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't really made lineup changes since the post deadline lineup where they started rolling this thing out where they had Randy hitting lead off.
22:38 --> 22:45 [SPEAKER_01]: The only thing I think you might see change and I think there's probably a greater chance of a player swap than a lineup swap.
22:46 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_01]: In the sense of rather than same players
22:52 --> 22:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a better chance of that.
22:55 --> 22:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you on that.
22:56 --> 23:02 [SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of anything else you would change necessarily, besides guys just need to go out and play better.
23:02 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_00]: This changes if guys have good games, which would be very refreshing.
23:06 --> 23:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:08 --> 23:12 [SPEAKER_01]: It would be awesome if all the struggling guys just let them do a win in this series.
23:12 --> 23:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Where, look, if it was good as Julio and Cal and Nailer have been, what have you had a Gino Randy Robles game?
23:20 --> 23:25 [SPEAKER_01]: where they ignite the offense and they're the driving force and they're the reason behind a seven to two win.
23:26 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_01]: It'd be awesome.
23:27 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_00]: It'd be great.
23:29 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_00]: It would be very, very helpful for all of us and I think would make people feel a lot better about the lineup up and down as opposed to who Leo's been hot, cows been hot, nailers been really good, everyone else.
23:43 --> 23:44 [SPEAKER_00]: has been.
23:44 --> 23:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:45 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_00]: It's okay.
23:46 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Polo.
23:47 --> 23:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:47 --> 23:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
23:48 --> 23:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
23:48 --> 23:49 [SPEAKER_00]: How can I miss the biggest one?
23:50 --> 23:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Jorge Polanco, Barry Bonds, Reggie Jackson.
23:55 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_00]: We said it earlier and I'm just going to just hammer this home as we're near and closing out of this podcast.
24:02 --> 24:03 [SPEAKER_00]: The Mariners need to win tomorrow.
24:03 --> 24:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Tomorrow's must win.
24:05 --> 24:10 [SPEAKER_00]: I have no intention of coming on here and talking with the series tied to do.
24:12 --> 24:12 [SPEAKER_00]: must win.
24:12 --> 24:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Every single game from here on out, the rest of the post season is a must win game.
24:17 --> 24:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
24:17 --> 24:17 [SPEAKER_00]: All of it.
24:18 --> 24:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
24:19 --> 24:33 [SPEAKER_01]: you need to go beat maxures or this is the pitching matchup that favors you more than any matchup you'll have in this series and you're at home and with the crowd and you're coming off a bad offensive night which would likely signal that you're due for some turnaround.
24:34 --> 24:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Plus without resilient this team's been all year the Mariners do this every time they get knocked down all year they seem to find a way to punch back and bounce back up.
24:42 --> 24:49 [SPEAKER_00]: They need that tomorrow in every way and Louise needs to bring it and if you lose you're giving home field advantage right back to the Blue Jays.
24:49 --> 24:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you are.
24:50 --> 24:52 [SPEAKER_00]: And why risk that?
24:52 --> 24:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
24:53 --> 24:56 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to risk having to cleanse your season in Toronto.
24:57 --> 25:01 [SPEAKER_00]: I would prefer not to because crowds affect games.
25:02 --> 25:09 [SPEAKER_00]: The crowd did not get to affect the game much today because they had about one inning to cheer and then the Blue Jays went
25:10 --> 25:10 [SPEAKER_00]: No more.
25:11 --> 25:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
25:11 --> 25:12 [SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
25:13 --> 25:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Totally.
25:14 --> 25:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Bring it tomorrow.
25:16 --> 25:16 [SPEAKER_01]: It's hope.
25:16 --> 25:16 [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
25:17 --> 25:17 [SPEAKER_01]: A reminder to you guys.
25:18 --> 25:19 [SPEAKER_01]: We did it on the last episode.
25:19 --> 25:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say it again.
25:20 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_01]: You guys were so awesome with helping us keep pushing closer to this 10 subscriber mark on YouTube.
25:27 --> 25:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we talked about it on our last episode and since then,
25:31 --> 25:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Man, you guys are driving this thing up through the roof.
25:34 --> 25:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, in a days time, our subscribers went way up.
25:37 --> 25:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was already trending in a nice direction, which is a testament to everyone you guys, but the last 24 hours, that was awesome.
25:44 --> 25:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So we said, we're trying to get to 10 by the end of the year.
25:47 --> 25:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, at this point, let's make it a goal to just get to 10 by the end of the postseason, because it feels like we're trying that way.
25:52 --> 25:53 [SPEAKER_01]: We're really close, we're about 500 away.
25:54 --> 25:58 [SPEAKER_01]: And we said, if you need an incentive, even more than just support the pod.
25:59 --> 26:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Like we said on the last episode.
26:00 --> 26:06 [SPEAKER_01]: There's a video of me getting really, really, really pissed off.
26:06 --> 26:13 [SPEAKER_01]: During the Kerry Carbender home run in game one of the DS, which we talked about at length, there is a video we said, we're not going to post it.
26:13 --> 26:23 [SPEAKER_01]: However, once we get to 10, if you guys see us in person, post 10 subscribers and say the code word 2K, we'll show you the video.
26:23 --> 26:25 [SPEAKER_01]: We're not going to DM it to people, we're not going to send it to people, you got to
26:29 --> 26:31 [SPEAKER_01]: And you want to see the video, you got to say 2K.
26:32 --> 26:32 [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll show you.
26:33 --> 26:36 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you need an incentive, we're not giving distribution to anyone else.
26:36 --> 26:36 [SPEAKER_01]: No.
26:36 --> 26:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
26:37 --> 26:38 [SPEAKER_01]: You got to see it through us.
26:39 --> 26:41 [SPEAKER_01]: So help us get there.
26:41 --> 26:44 [SPEAKER_01]: We're getting really close, which is just a huge shout out to you guys.
26:44 --> 26:46 [SPEAKER_01]: But you find us in person after that, we'll show you.
26:46 --> 26:50 [SPEAKER_01]: So help, yeah, just keep helping us out with that.
26:50 --> 26:51 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a goal of ours that we think is attainable.
26:52 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_01]: So shout out to all you guys.
26:53 --> 26:55 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's go win game four tomorrow.
26:55 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_01]: You got anything else before we wrap up.
26:59 --> 27:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, if Max Scherzer gives you the opportunity to deal the kill shot in the first thing like Shane Beaver did today, take it.
27:06 --> 27:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
27:07 --> 27:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Please.
27:07 --> 27:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Why aren't you going to score five in the first inning?
27:09 --> 27:09 [SPEAKER_01]: How about that?
27:09 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_00]: That would be great.
27:10 --> 27:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
27:12 --> 27:13 [SPEAKER_00]: That would make me feel really good.
27:13 --> 27:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Get him out of that game and get to this Blue Jays bullpen that even tonight had massive, I mean, that's not fair.
27:20 --> 27:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Had problems.
27:21 --> 27:24 [SPEAKER_01]: They, they, like, they still gave up home runs late in the game.
27:24 --> 27:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I know Yary L. Rodriguez is one of their leverage guys.
27:26 --> 27:26 [SPEAKER_01]: So.
27:27 --> 27:31 [SPEAKER_01]: I get it, but none of these blue jazards are that good and we've seen it.
27:31 --> 27:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Flourty, fine, little's good, fishers good, but it's not the Tigers bullpen.
27:38 --> 27:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Get shows around the game, make that bullpen cover eight innings, and you're going to be sitting pretty.
27:42 --> 27:49 [SPEAKER_00]: And the murders have already had a pressure packed game at home with Luis Castillo on the bump, and then he did pretty well on that one.
27:49 --> 27:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's hope the same thing happens tomorrow.
27:51 --> 27:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's hope.
27:52 --> 27:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely.
