00:45 --> 00:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's get it rolling!
01:00 --> 01:19 [SPEAKER_01]: And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Lair podcast part of the just baseball podcast network recording here on Monday evening February 2nd again, as we've reminded you all week we're pre-taping a lot of these episodes so something doesn't sound as timely that's why we're recording this hours after
01:19 --> 01:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Brendan Donovan got traded to the Seattle Mariners.
01:21 --> 01:28 [SPEAKER_01]: If you have not yet heard that episode and you were expecting to hear that on this episode, go listen to the previous episode because that's where that is.
01:29 --> 01:32 [SPEAKER_01]: We did a reaction episode that dropped on Monday afternoon.
01:33 --> 01:34 [SPEAKER_01]: But fanfess, Lyle.
01:35 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I had a ton of fun.
01:36 --> 01:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was great.
01:37 --> 01:39 [SPEAKER_01]: It's nostalgia.
01:39 --> 01:40 [SPEAKER_01]: We talked about nostalgia with Gino.
01:41 --> 01:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Fanfess is nostalgia for us.
01:43 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, we both grew up going.
01:45 --> 01:48 [SPEAKER_00]: I used to go as a kid just about every year.
01:48 --> 01:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't go as much once I got into my high school years, obviously, but they stopped it around 2019.
01:56 --> 02:04 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's awesome that they brought it back because not only was it always a great event, but you've got as much buy-in from this fan base as you've seen and I don't know how long.
02:04 --> 02:06 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look at how packed the crowds were all weekend.
02:07 --> 02:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I hadn't gotten that many people to fan fest.
02:09 --> 02:11 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't really think ever, right?
02:12 --> 02:23 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's timing sometimes a really wonderful thing that the year fan fest is able to come back is the year that the Mariners have after their best wish ever.
02:23 --> 02:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, great great coincidence and it works out great for everybody as opposed to you know when you and I would go in like 2012 I think 2012 was the last year I went I remember I was wearing my high school baseball sweater and I got to throw in the bullpen Like I would think I was a freshman in high school the last time I did that you get to I got just swung on the T in the outfield Which is what I vividly remember the most and I threw in the bullpen everything else I did.
02:48 --> 02:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't really remember that much like
02:51 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I sat and listened to Jack Z.
02:54 --> 02:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Probably didn't learn a lot as you could probably imagine But he wasn't talking about WRC+.
03:01 --> 03:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, who knows what he was talking about.
03:03 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I can't remember, but yeah, no, I don't think so.
03:07 --> 03:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe batting average RBIs and home runs.
03:10 --> 03:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, he might have talked about WRC+.
03:12 --> 03:17 [SPEAKER_00]: On during the interview process in which he lied about everything he believed in, but
03:17 --> 03:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, WRC plus existed back then, but I don't even think teams used it.
03:21 --> 03:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
03:21 --> 03:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not.
03:22 --> 03:26 [SPEAKER_01]: They might have used some, yeah, anyway, sorry, that's, the point of the point.
03:26 --> 03:35 [SPEAKER_00]: The point of that story is Jack Z, uh, did, was not exactly transparent about the things he's believed in as a baseball exec to get that job.
03:36 --> 03:42 [SPEAKER_00]: The story is he was, he told the Mariners he was very new school, and then was doing things like looking at batting average NRPIs.
03:43 --> 03:45 [SPEAKER_01]: He misled them in his interview.
03:46 --> 03:46 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
03:46 --> 03:51 [SPEAKER_01]: It was like I built the Brewers on a forward-thinking approach.
03:51 --> 03:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I think he was the assistant GM there and came to the Seattle and, well, was not.
03:56 --> 03:58 [SPEAKER_00]: The side that I wanted Mark Trumbo.
03:58 --> 03:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
03:59 --> 04:04 [SPEAKER_01]: And then when I if I remember correctly, he also wasn't the best at hearing other voices.
04:05 --> 04:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
04:05 --> 04:05 [SPEAKER_01]: So.
04:05 --> 04:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
04:06 --> 04:15 [SPEAKER_01]: So when you you peel back the curtain and look at some of the details of the 2000s and 2010s Mariners makes a lot of sense.
04:16 --> 04:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the last one I went to was the Yerati signed.
04:19 --> 04:22 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the 2014 fan fest, because he was there.
04:22 --> 04:25 [SPEAKER_00]: And I remember vividly sitting and listening to him.
04:25 --> 04:31 [SPEAKER_00]: And he talked about how excited he was to play with Felix and he's like, now I get to grow my beard because he couldn't do it in New York.
04:32 --> 04:34 [SPEAKER_01]: So, you must have got a huge crowd.
04:34 --> 04:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I can only imagine.
04:35 --> 04:36 [SPEAKER_00]: What's that?
04:36 --> 04:37 [SPEAKER_01]: He must have had a huge crowd.
04:38 --> 04:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Farabi, yeah, that was pretty big.
04:40 --> 04:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Because, I mean, again, we'd gone a deck, the Mariners had gone a decade without, like, outside of Felix without someone like that.
04:48 --> 04:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
04:49 --> 04:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he had a big crowd as you know.
04:51 --> 04:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think, and I think Cliff Lee was attracting crowds like that in FanFest.
04:56 --> 04:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, fans hardly knew him.
04:57 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_00]: He was there four months.
05:00 --> 05:01 [SPEAKER_01]: But those were fun memories.
05:01 --> 05:18 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think some of those got triggered for us this weekend as we're talking about people, about people with a ballpark and looking around at all the attractions and the autographed signings and all the fans, especially the young ones who this is their first time going, were sort of getting to live what we lived when we were growing up.
05:18 --> 05:26 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think a lot of our listeners, especially ones R-A, your older got to do as this team brought that in and started doing that every year.
05:26 --> 05:27 [SPEAKER_01]: So that was super cool.
05:27 --> 05:34 [SPEAKER_01]: But I think my number one take away, besides that we talked about Brennan Donovan, I think literally every single fan we talked to.
05:34 --> 05:35 [SPEAKER_01]: We talked to a lot of fans.
05:35 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_01]: You guys are the best, all of our supporters, the listeners, following us on social media, like the coolest thing ever to get to meet all of you.
05:43 --> 05:48 [SPEAKER_01]: If you're listening to this right now and you said hi to us, like just know from the bottom of our heart, it is the coolest thing ever.
05:49 --> 06:01 [SPEAKER_01]: But outside of talking about Brennan Donovan with everyone because we're essentially saying, yeah, I think we're all just waiting on one more move, during sin and as a, a versatile bat who can play multiple positions, who could that be?
06:02 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And then they trade for him here today.
06:03 --> 06:05 [SPEAKER_01]: And then they got him, yeah, and then they got him.
06:06 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Besides that, I think the number one thing I took away is it's amazing what winning does.
06:14 --> 06:35 [SPEAKER_01]: and it's something we don't get a lot of as Mariners fans historically they're up to now six playoff seasons in forty nine years right ninety five ninety seven two thousand two thousand one twenty twenty twenty five yeah six and forty nine seasons there's not a lot
06:35 --> 06:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Not many opportunities to get this kind of buy-in from fans who have all these prime time games to watch you and these stars that cling to and hope that the next season you're going to go win the world series.
06:49 --> 06:57 [SPEAKER_01]: But we got that now and you can feel it when you're walking around and just look at the fact they sold out both days.
06:57 --> 06:58 [SPEAKER_01]: They've never done that.
06:59 --> 07:07 [SPEAKER_00]: No, no they haven't and it wasn't just sold out crowds, but it was sold out crowds with truly invested fans.
07:07 --> 07:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, on the days and the times were cow and Julio and George Kirby are doing their dugout dialogue, sitting up on the first base dugout and answering questions from fans.
07:18 --> 07:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's packed.
07:19 --> 07:23 [SPEAKER_00]: as as good a crowd as Robinson can know had all those years ago.
07:24 --> 07:28 [SPEAKER_00]: It does not compare to what you saw for Julio and Cal and those guys this weekend.
07:28 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you had multiple sections of people just filled up for those guys.
07:33 --> 07:34 [SPEAKER_00]: That was pretty cool.
07:35 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Goldie said three full sections for Cal.
07:38 --> 07:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So Cal sitting on top of the dugout, the section in front of him, the section to the right of him and the
07:47 --> 07:49 [SPEAKER_01]: with probably some people standing at the top.
07:49 --> 07:53 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's not including the people standing, you know, a few more sections down that could sit.
07:53 --> 07:55 [SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty cool.
07:56 --> 07:56 [SPEAKER_00]: It was awesome.
07:57 --> 07:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he is a true star.
07:59 --> 08:06 [SPEAKER_00]: When you get a turnout like that for people just to listen to you sit and talk, that's a true star.
08:06 --> 08:09 [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I thought the fans was the coolest part.
08:09 --> 08:15 [SPEAKER_01]: And if they're able to do this again, like make the playoffs, hopefully make the world serious.
08:16 --> 08:18 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, just think of all the generations of fans you get to impact.
08:18 --> 08:22 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's cool for us, it's cool for the team, it's cool for the players.
08:23 --> 08:26 [SPEAKER_01]: And it makes Seattle very appealing when you win a lot.
08:26 --> 08:27 [SPEAKER_01]: And the fans are invested.
08:28 --> 08:30 [SPEAKER_01]: And they let you know when they come out and they support you.
08:30 --> 08:31 [SPEAKER_01]: So that was cool.
08:31 --> 08:34 [SPEAKER_01]: But speaking of cow, I mean, we got to talk to cow.
08:34 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_01]: We got to talk to a lot of guys
08:36 --> 08:39 [SPEAKER_01]: a couple quick notes on from what we talked about with them.
08:40 --> 09:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Calman, we always say it, he is as genuine, as superstars you're ever going to find in any sport, totally normal human being, and it even, it still comes across even after a full off season of after a historic year from him where he had 60 home runs does all these amazing
09:03 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_01]: We're just chatting with him in the gut like normal.
09:06 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_01]: It's the cool thing ever.
09:07 --> 09:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's not even just us every all the me members in the dugout.
09:12 --> 09:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He is super cool and super normal with.
09:18 --> 09:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Happy to talk, open, relax, yes.
09:22 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_00]: It's unique, you will definitely not find a superstar on every single market doing that.
09:28 --> 09:30 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not none, but you don't find it everywhere.
09:30 --> 09:36 [SPEAKER_00]: I do always kind of crack up a little bit when we talk to him just because of you.
09:36 --> 09:47 [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not saying anything you say is wrong, but I can tell like every time we talk to him, you have like, you're almost, you're almost glowing after every time we talk to him or you're just like, oh my god, he's just the best.
09:48 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Because I mean, again, I love everyone we get to talk to and especially, like we get an opportunity to talk to some really, really good baseball players.
10:00 --> 10:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
10:01 --> 10:05 [SPEAKER_01]: And for as good as Kal is, none of them operate the way he does.
10:07 --> 10:08 [SPEAKER_01]: And he's the one who signed a play here and see out.
10:09 --> 10:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
10:10 --> 10:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And he's also, I mean, he even just used the Robinson cano example.
10:14 --> 10:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Robby eminated star.
10:17 --> 10:38 [SPEAKER_01]: or a completely that that would not happen with robbing can now yeah i mean we were around them but i can't imagine he was as open and and laid back as as calis by any stretch that just wasn't who he was and we've mentioned it and this is in a negative thing but who he was not even like that like who he was very nice always very positive smiling all the time
10:38 --> 10:44 [SPEAKER_01]: but like he's he gives off Scar or a two and it's it's it's just not the same.
10:44 --> 10:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Now let me say that he's he is unbelievably good at connecting with the fans.
10:49 --> 10:54 [SPEAKER_00]: That is something Julio does as well as anybody in the sport like when Julio
10:54 --> 11:03 [SPEAKER_00]: had his media session, you know, answer questions, talk to some people, then it was time for him to go up on on the first base side of the dugout and do the dugout dialogue.
11:03 --> 11:11 [SPEAKER_00]: This was on Saturday, as soon as he walks up those steps, all the fans see them, they start cheering, they start yelling, and he just screams.
11:11 --> 11:11 [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, ah,
11:13 --> 11:27 [SPEAKER_00]: like to all the fans like as a way it's like I'm fired up I'm hyped up to see all you guys then you heard some of his answers throughout the weekend about how much the crowd and all the fans mean to him like you're right that he doesn't he doesn't do what Cal does in the sense of
11:28 --> 11:32 [SPEAKER_00]: stand around and just openly talk to the media.
11:32 --> 11:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Winnias time, obviously Cal's a busy guy.
11:35 --> 11:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Julio doesn't do as much of that about just all the kind of open dialogue conversations, but he is about as good as any star in the game at connecting with the fans.
11:45 --> 11:50 [SPEAKER_01]: And just remember, in defense of Julio, him and Cal come from totally different scenarios.
11:51 --> 11:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Cal was never a top 100 prospect.
11:54 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Cal has up until last year never been the most famous or you could argue not even one of the three most famous players on his own team.
12:03 --> 12:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Julio has been the center of the spotlight since since the pandemic, essentially.
12:09 --> 12:22 [SPEAKER_01]: It was him and Jared, and then it was just him at, like, with the spotlight on him as the top one of the top prospects in baseball and what was supposed to be the, the, the, the, the osher of this era of Mariners baseball.
12:23 --> 12:26 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I could understand after the years.
12:26 --> 12:31 [SPEAKER_01]: that it wears him down a little bit and he picks and chooses more where he's going to spend his energy.
12:31 --> 12:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you remember, this dude hosted a YouTube show on the Mariners YouTube channel, when he was in the minor leagues.
12:37 --> 12:45 [SPEAKER_01]: So it's not like he doesn't like doing that kind of stuff, but given that he has more years and more tread on his tires, I understand why he doesn't.
12:46 --> 12:54 [SPEAKER_00]: He does have to prioritize his time because eventually, eventually you're going to have
12:54 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_00]: It is very cool to see him always connect with the fans, even during the year, right?
12:57 --> 13:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Like when he runs down a ball in the center field, I don't know if there's ever a time where he forgets to turn around to the J-rod squad and do the no-fly zone sign.
13:06 --> 13:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Like every time, you don't see Ronald Akunia do that.
13:09 --> 13:11 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't see Bobby with Junior do that.
13:11 --> 13:13 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't see Gunnar Henderson do that.
13:13 --> 13:15 [SPEAKER_00]: it's pretty unique to him.
13:15 --> 13:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Show hey and judge definitely do not do that.
13:18 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Judge points out to the right field section for roll call because it's been done for 100 years and you have to, but that's about it for judge.
13:27 --> 13:28 [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't do what Julio does.
13:28 --> 13:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, it's head down, head down, run to the dugout.
13:31 --> 13:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
13:31 --> 13:34 [SPEAKER_01]: So a one common thing.
13:34 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll say between the two of them from this weekend specifically It's pretty clear how much that playoff loss hurts these guys.
13:41 --> 13:45 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they were hurt What they were gonna say when they were gonna ask about it.
13:45 --> 13:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they knew they were gonna get asked about it, but both Both said some semblance of yeah, we can't get that game seven loss out of our mind and Nor nor should they hurt total heart breaking loss
13:57 --> 14:05 [SPEAKER_01]: But in terms of stuff when we were in the dugout of the guys talking, I mean that's it's hard for that not to stand out the most.
14:06 --> 14:14 [SPEAKER_00]: I think they answered it well where they said, you don't ever really get over it, but you also can't let it bring you down forever.
14:14 --> 14:16 [SPEAKER_00]: What do I think is the right way to approach it?
14:16 --> 14:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Because if you view it like that, that's a pretty good way to use it as fuel moving forward where they're saying it themselves, we don't want to feel like that ever again.
14:23 --> 14:33 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you remember it and you take those feelings with you, but use it as energy to keep improving and getting better, good, like channel it that way.
14:34 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_01]: who also had a really fun moment this week where I forget who mentioned this to him but the framing of the question was now that you're a veteran on this team and who will like fell over when he was like veteran he's having a lot of fun with that I'm only 25 veteran he's like don't call me a veteran I don't want to feel old
14:56 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Whether he wants to or not, he is, he's the senior member of the team.
15:01 --> 15:03 [SPEAKER_01]: No, Logan's the senior member of the team.
15:04 --> 15:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Right, right, yeah, yeah.
15:06 --> 15:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, tenure, yeah.
15:07 --> 15:13 [SPEAKER_00]: When Cold Emerson gets up this year, and if you're a cool young, you probably look at who Leo's a veteran.
15:13 --> 15:15 [SPEAKER_00]: This will be his fifth year in the big leagues.
15:15 --> 15:17 [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be Cold's first, it'll be cold young second.
15:17 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Of course they look at him like that.
15:19 --> 15:33 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's technically Logan Gilbert and Andre's Monios because he appeared at the end of the 21 season for one appearance counts.
15:33 --> 15:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean Matt Brash got up at the end of 21 too.
15:35 --> 15:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Remember he just didn't pitch.
15:37 --> 15:38 [SPEAKER_00]: He did.
15:38 --> 15:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Remember it was the last week of the year and there was that start where the young brash up from AA and they thought they were going to have to piggyback them with maybe it was Tyler Anderson because the young Kuchi out of the rotation and you don't remember this whole thing brash?
15:54 --> 15:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Well I remember the young Kuchi out of the rotation on the last week.
15:57 --> 15:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember brash was the move to come up.
15:59 --> 16:03 [SPEAKER_00]: He was up and we got all excited because we thought we were going to see him pitch.
16:03 --> 16:11 [SPEAKER_00]: And 2021 was when all the map rash hype started with all the ridiculous whiffable balls and the pitches you'd see down in the minor leagues, he got up.
16:11 --> 16:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Back when they still thought he might be a starter and they thought he was going to piggyback at least once that week, if not multiple times, during that playoff run at the end of 21.
16:20 --> 16:21 [SPEAKER_00]: He just never got in the game.
16:21 --> 16:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Did they still have the expanded rosters at this point?
16:24 --> 16:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Like the 40 where you could have the 40 man?
16:27 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember.
16:29 --> 16:31 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I, because I don't remember that.
16:31 --> 16:33 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to put the qualification that you need to be in the game.
16:34 --> 16:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, Muno's pitch once, brash pitch no times, but they were both there.
16:39 --> 16:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but one got on the game.
16:42 --> 16:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever, let's call Logan the veteran of the team.
16:45 --> 16:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Ian.
16:46 --> 16:48 [SPEAKER_00]: And Calc is Cal was up in 21.
16:48 --> 16:50 [SPEAKER_00]: But Logan was first.
16:50 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
16:51 --> 16:53 [SPEAKER_00]: So it goes Logan and then Cal.
16:53 --> 16:57 [SPEAKER_00]: And then I'll put all of Julio brash Muno's curvy in the same bucket.
16:58 --> 17:06 [SPEAKER_01]: That sounds about right, but those guys are the leaders of this team now, because in terms of Mariners tenure, they are the tenured ones.
17:07 --> 17:09 [SPEAKER_01]: But I thought that was funny from Julio.
17:09 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, terms of players.
17:13 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I've never seen Josh Nular smile more.
17:15 --> 17:16 [SPEAKER_00]: That was amazing.
17:17 --> 17:24 [SPEAKER_00]: For all the big grumper talk throughout the final three months of the year, you wouldn't have known it for a second seeing him at a fan fest.
17:25 --> 17:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He, the, the first day we were there on Saturday, we're standing, we're on the ground level, we're, so we're on the field level.
17:33 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_01]: behind, roughly behind the or towards the Mariners Clubhouse from the Diamond Club, and this is where the line for the Clubhouse tour was, and we're standing and talking to some fans.
17:46 --> 18:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Josh is walking behind us and the someone mentions oh here comes Josh Nailer and you turn and you see Josh Nailer like holding two hands out high five and every single fan he can Is he's walking by huge smile on his face like he's got security guards with them.
18:01 --> 18:05 [SPEAKER_01]: He's got PR people with him because you know these guys are famous They don't want him to get swirmy Josh.
18:05 --> 18:16 [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, yeah, I don't really care reaching out and just high five and every single fan He can I think he smacked me on like the side as he's trying to he's trying to give everyone high fives
18:16 --> 18:17 [SPEAKER_01]: He's, he's a riot.
18:17 --> 18:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He's such a riot.
18:19 --> 18:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Do you think anything about his personality changes this year?
18:22 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Or do you think this was just a fan fest thing?
18:26 --> 18:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, we've never seen him with a contract this big.
18:30 --> 18:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I almost, I almost don't want it to change.
18:34 --> 18:38 [SPEAKER_00]: It'd be more fun in terms of doing media stuff with him and doing interviews with him.
18:38 --> 18:40 [SPEAKER_00]: If, you know, he's seemingly
18:42 --> 18:51 [SPEAKER_00]: wasn't as intense all the time, but for the sake of the game and his success it seems to have worked wonders for him to have that exact mentality.
18:52 --> 19:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's going to change quite as much, especially what's the game start being played and you're in the grind of the season and he's got at bats from last night that he's thinking about and he's tired and they just got back from a three-city east coast road trip.
19:06 --> 19:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Perhaps he won't be smiling as much.
19:09 --> 19:09 [SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
19:09 --> 19:15 [SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to walk up to us in his hockey jersey and be like, podcast guys, what's up?
19:16 --> 19:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Probably not.
19:18 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_00]: If he did do that, well, I would be a little caught off guard.
19:23 --> 19:52 [SPEAKER_00]: sure but again even it like doing the dugout dialogue this week and answering questions for media people like the whole time he was just ear to ear smiling and couldn't have it happier to be in Seattle and couldn't be happier to talk in all the fans obviously he's going to have to keep playing well throughout the five years but the Mariners really seem like they may have struck gold with this contract and Josh Nailer may feel like he's struck gold with where he chose to sign and where he was traded because it seems
19:52 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_01]: sometimes he you don't know that's why you need to take chances like the Mariners would have never known that a Jesse wanker was a terrible fit so they put him in a clubhouse got some feedback from manager or players or the fans just watching and play defense on their television and then realize yeah that's probably not the right decision sure I mean dude you remember the final couple weeks of the year when he was playing left the old there was a
20:22 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, there was a ball in Kansas City where like I couldn't believe he was even in the field at that point.
20:27 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they had some guys banged up that day, but he missed played a ball in left field in Kansas City.
20:32 --> 20:37 [SPEAKER_00]: And what was I remember an important night game and I was like, you got to be I remember that series there because they were slipping at this point.
20:37 --> 20:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
20:39 --> 20:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I was in utter, I was like, how was this guy bigly outfielder?
20:43 --> 20:45 [SPEAKER_01]: He got benched by the final week.
20:45 --> 20:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
20:46 --> 20:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he was hurt.
20:47 --> 20:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I hurt.
20:49 --> 20:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember if he was actually heard or not, but he was not playing and he didn't play in the playoffs.
20:54 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_01]: No.
20:54 --> 20:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Tells you all you need to know.
20:55 --> 20:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
20:57 --> 20:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
20:57 --> 20:59 [SPEAKER_01]: So there's the polar opposites of that.
20:59 --> 21:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Like sometimes you strike gold and sometimes you get coal and Mariners seem to have struck gold with this one.
21:05 --> 21:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It was cool to see him.
21:07 --> 21:07 [SPEAKER_01]: He had a great time.
21:08 --> 21:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Some of the other guys will, I guess, speed up a little bit with these not as much as talk about.
21:13 --> 21:14 [SPEAKER_01]: It was great seeing Everston Hancock again.
21:15 --> 21:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, with the time we've Logan getting hurt, we had to ask him about him if he's going to be on the bullpen or not.
21:22 --> 21:31 [SPEAKER_01]: His words to us were he hasn't gotten anything from the team on what his role is going to be, but I can tell you right now what his role is going to be.
21:31 --> 21:33 [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to start.
21:33 --> 21:36 [SPEAKER_01]: So he said he's planning to ramp up as a starter for the spring.
21:36 --> 21:43 [SPEAKER_00]: which makes sense because it's so much easier to go from starter to reliever than reliever to starter where you have to rebuild back up.
21:43 --> 21:45 [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm sure he's going to be starting games and spring training.
21:46 --> 21:58 [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, if you're the Mariners, you're going to need him this year because with Logan Evans injured and with Gerangelo St. John, Emerson Hancock's probably going to be relied upon if somebody gets injured in the rotation, you're going to need him.
21:58 --> 22:00 [SPEAKER_00]: So I would imagine he's starting.
22:00 --> 22:02 [SPEAKER_01]: And it kind of stinks for him too in this aspect.
22:03 --> 22:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's going to have to be into coma.
22:05 --> 22:09 [SPEAKER_01]: If he was in the bullpen, he might have been with the big leagueers all year.
22:10 --> 22:14 [SPEAKER_01]: And perhaps been the seventh or eighth guy in that bullpen if they saw that fit.
22:15 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_01]: But if he's going to start, he's going to be into coma.
22:18 --> 22:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Could they just put him in the bullpen as the longer lever?
22:20 --> 22:22 [SPEAKER_00]: And then when they need him, you could just have him start.
22:23 --> 22:26 [SPEAKER_01]: And theory, but then you're not stretched out.
22:27 --> 22:30 [SPEAKER_01]: When you do that, if you do that for a month, you're not stretched out, are you?
22:31 --> 22:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I guess not, and you probably only pick certain spots where you'd use them.
22:35 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, yeah, maybe you will be into coma.
22:37 --> 22:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Unless the Mariners would just rather use Dane Dunning as the number, the immediate backup, in which case, then Emerson can stay with the big loop club the whole time.
22:46 --> 22:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
22:46 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_01]: the big league club is not said anything about who anyone's role is and we probably won't know until the last week before the season starts.
22:55 --> 22:59 [SPEAKER_01]: That's when I think we'll have a better idea on what Emerson Hancock's role is going to be.
23:00 --> 23:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Right now it seems like he's going to start.
23:01 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_01]: I would guess he's going to start.
23:03 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
23:04 --> 23:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that checks out.
23:05 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_00]: That feels right.
23:07 --> 23:09 [SPEAKER_00]: It's always a blast to see him though, I will say.
23:09 --> 23:12 [SPEAKER_00]: He is one of the nicest dudes ever.
23:13 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_00]: And he's just like, he's happy to talk to anybody.
23:16 --> 23:20 [SPEAKER_00]: We've been lucky enough to get to know him that over the last few years, but he's...
23:20 --> 23:23 [SPEAKER_00]: When you talk about guys that are easy to root for, him.
23:23 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, totally and give him shit about Georgia not winning a playoff game again.
23:29 --> 23:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Second consecutive year, by the way.
23:32 --> 23:33 [SPEAKER_01]: While Carson backs in the nanny.
23:34 --> 23:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
23:35 --> 23:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
23:36 --> 23:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and we're said no no said no hard feelings.
23:39 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I guess Carson back one of a national title to be fair.
23:43 --> 23:45 [SPEAKER_00]: But he did.
23:45 --> 23:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, wait.
23:46 --> 23:47 [SPEAKER_00]: No, it was all stats.
23:47 --> 23:48 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
23:48 --> 23:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, stats in the legend.
23:49 --> 23:50 [SPEAKER_00]: You're right.
23:50 --> 23:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
23:51 --> 23:51 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
23:51 --> 23:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, who else?
23:52 --> 23:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Gabe Spire, he's psyched, psyched, bitch in the WBC.
23:57 --> 24:02 [SPEAKER_01]: You guys probably thought that, but he, he says he's really looking forward to the opportunity.
24:03 --> 24:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't sound like there's any nerves about ramping up too early.
24:05 --> 24:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He was mentioning to us the game start roughly about when he would be getting in games anyway, or at least ramping up to max for spring training, which is, he's at what March fourth, March fifth.
24:19 --> 24:22 [SPEAKER_01]: man, he sounds like he's ready to go already.
24:23 --> 24:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Can you blame him?
24:24 --> 24:25 [SPEAKER_00]: What like we've talked about?
24:25 --> 24:29 [SPEAKER_00]: What an insanely cool turnaround over just a couple of years for him.
24:30 --> 24:32 [SPEAKER_00]: Even going back to when he was let go by the royals.
24:32 --> 24:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Great year with the Mariners in 23, battled injuries in 24, so it ended up being in a lot of ways a lost year for him where he had to spend some time in Tacoma.
24:41 --> 24:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Dominates in 25 so much so to where he turned himself into one of the best left-handers in baseball, left-hander relievers.
24:48 --> 24:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And Team USA wanted him to pitch.
24:51 --> 24:52 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's pretty cool.
24:52 --> 24:56 [SPEAKER_00]: And like Emerson Hancock, it really couldn't happen to a better dude.
24:57 --> 25:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Another guy where you put him on the, put him on the very short list of Mariners in terms of easiest guys to root for, Gabe Spire, incredibly nice, friendly, like open, he's, he's the man.
25:09 --> 25:20 [SPEAKER_01]: He even said he was doing a little advanced scouting on some of these WBC lineups, and yeah, he noted you know, I'm looking at uh, this is my game in personation.
25:20 --> 25:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was looking at the Dominican lineup.
25:23 --> 25:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Happy to notice they only have one lefty in their lineup.
25:26 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Bad matchup for game.
25:27 --> 25:28 [SPEAKER_01]: That one lefty by the way.
25:28 --> 25:30 [SPEAKER_01]: His name is not a herd of them.
25:30 --> 25:31 [SPEAKER_01]: His name is one Soto.
25:32 --> 25:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like a matchup game perhaps won't get in.
25:38 --> 25:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, maybe he'll get into face Soto.
25:42 --> 25:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe.
25:42 --> 25:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
25:44 --> 25:49 [SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, that lineup, as we've talked about, is unbelievable and very right-hand heavy.
25:50 --> 25:52 [SPEAKER_01]: So, among all the teams, it's probably the least likely.
25:52 --> 26:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Sure, but if they get into a scenario where in the sixth or seventh inning, the DR has a couple on base with two outs and here comes one Soto.
26:00 --> 26:02 [SPEAKER_00]: That is Gabe Spot.
26:03 --> 26:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so that I mean that's cool for him that he's he's ready for.
26:08 --> 26:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm hyped to see that match it.
26:09 --> 26:10 [SPEAKER_01]: It would be a great matchup.
26:11 --> 26:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, by the way, we won't get Otani pitching in the WBC this year.
26:15 --> 26:18 [SPEAKER_00]: That's uh, I mean, you can't be that surprised.
26:18 --> 26:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Are you he just got back from Tommy John.
26:20 --> 26:21 [SPEAKER_00]: He'd have to ramp up early.
26:21 --> 26:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Not surprised, but disappointed.
26:24 --> 26:25 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, fair.
26:25 --> 26:30 [SPEAKER_00]: But him just playing in general is all the WBC needs.
26:30 --> 26:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Him just playing is enough of a phenomenon in its own right.
26:33 --> 26:36 [SPEAKER_00]: And if you're a Japan, I think you're OK on pitching.
26:36 --> 26:38 [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to run out, Yamamoto.
26:38 --> 26:40 [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to run out, you might.
26:40 --> 26:42 [SPEAKER_00]: You're probably going to run out, Roki.
26:42 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_00]: You're probably going to run out.
26:43 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Shoda.
26:44 --> 26:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Shoda.
26:45 --> 26:46 [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to be fine.
26:49 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, next notes, uh, oh, prospects, prospects.
26:53 --> 26:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Couple of notes on the prospects.
26:55 --> 26:58 [SPEAKER_01]: So Colta Emerson was mentioning to us when we were chatting with him.
26:58 --> 27:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Another just, A plus dude, Colta Emerson.
27:01 --> 27:03 [SPEAKER_01]: He's, he's phenomenal.
27:03 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Cannot wait for him to be in the big leagues and be a really good big leagueer because the student's worked his ass off to get to this point.
27:10 --> 27:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And he also happens to be amazing.
27:13 --> 27:14 [SPEAKER_01]: An amazing baseball player.
27:15 --> 27:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He was mentioning to us, which I hope makes people feel better when the Mariners are putting together their jigsaw puzzle of an infield for this upcoming season with Donovan now in the roster is that he always during the offseason takes reps at, it sounds like he splits it pretty evenly.
27:32 --> 27:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Second, short and third.
27:34 --> 27:38 [SPEAKER_01]: So while he plays short and a lot of games, because he's the best player,
27:39 --> 27:43 [SPEAKER_01]: He sounds like he'd be pretty comfortable going wherever the Mariners need.
27:43 --> 27:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, at the Mariners need him at second base, it sounds like he's totally okay playing second base for the subcoming season.
27:50 --> 27:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe on a day where Cole Young needs a day off, and they want to put Donovan at third, you can maneuver it that way.
27:57 --> 28:04 [SPEAKER_00]: But I think that's great, because if Cole really can be that versatile and is that open to playing other positions, it lets the Mariners plug and play a lot of different matchups.
28:05 --> 28:11 [SPEAKER_00]: You can get JP Moore days off who is usually just a war course and does not take many days off during the year.
28:11 --> 28:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he can get off his feet.
28:13 --> 28:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Cole Young doesn't have to see all the lefties.
28:15 --> 28:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you get Donovan in the outfield for a few games.
28:17 --> 28:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you get Donovan a day off, for example.
28:20 --> 28:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Cold Emerson having the ability to play multiple positions should only give them that many more options to benefit them.
28:27 --> 28:35 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see if the Mariners let him play a bunch of other spots, but to have him have the ability to do it and the fact that he's clearly working on it, and that's great.
28:36 --> 28:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you think the Mariners will put Donvin at shortstop?
28:39 --> 28:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Because the Cardinals put him at shortstop this past year and I'm thinking, especially if Dan likes vets, would they think about putting Donvin as the backup shortstop
28:51 --> 28:54 [SPEAKER_00]: I doubt it, Colt is a short stop and he's a good one.
28:55 --> 28:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, JP's not going to take that many days off.
28:57 --> 29:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So if there's days where he doesn't play, I feel like that would be a time where they want Colt to play short, especially because everybody's under the assumption that come 2027, your short stop is going to be Colt Emerson.
29:09 --> 29:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Fair point.
29:10 --> 29:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I just had that thought today as we were doing our bread and dawn of his dawn of in research.
29:14 --> 29:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't actually realize how much short he played.
29:16 --> 29:20 [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't a ton, but it was more than he played at third base this upcoming year.
29:20 --> 29:23 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, only other prospect note.
29:24 --> 29:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I have we talked to Johnny Farmello and everyone will be pleased to hear if you're at fan fest.
29:28 --> 29:30 [SPEAKER_01]: You might know this because you might have mentioned it.
29:30 --> 29:31 [SPEAKER_01]: It's totally healthy.
29:31 --> 29:32 [SPEAKER_01]: It's ready to go.
29:32 --> 29:33 [SPEAKER_01]: He's nice feel good.
29:33 --> 29:37 [SPEAKER_01]: He was his backer side that he had a problem with last year.
29:38 --> 29:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Side and then, you know, obviously it was recovering from the ACL.
29:42 --> 29:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but he said he feels good.
29:44 --> 29:49 [SPEAKER_01]: He said he's ready to go full speed and for his sake, I mean, I hope he gets 120 games under his belts.
29:50 --> 29:50 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what he needs right now.
29:51 --> 29:51 [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't.
29:51 --> 30:01 [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't need to focus on like any one one aspect of his game because like when he's been on the field he's been great He needs to play 120 games
30:01 --> 30:02 [SPEAKER_00]: for sure.
30:02 --> 30:05 [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be a big gear for him because he hasn't played a full season in the minors yet.
30:05 --> 30:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Got a little bit of time in 23, he was on that Modesto team that won it, was playing really well in 24, had the ACL injury, and then on 25 again, it was a tough year for him in a lot of ways.
30:18 --> 30:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Not even so much the production stuff, but just coming back from the knee and then he has the side and he misses the time with that.
30:25 --> 30:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Now he's fully healthy and ready to go, which is
30:28 --> 30:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Incredibly exciting.
30:30 --> 30:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I think I know by a lot of the prospect rankings for our mellows down in anywhere from the 60s to 70s to 80s Man, I just I can't get over it.
30:40 --> 30:41 [SPEAKER_00]: I think of everything clicks for him.
30:42 --> 30:49 [SPEAKER_00]: His upside is exciting is anybody's because that combination of speed and power and defense
30:50 --> 31:13 [SPEAKER_01]: you don't find it in every player that's to say the least and he'll shoot up the rankings if he stays healthy like i think the only reason he's down there is because he just hasn't been able to play he hasn't been able to showcase himself if you're not on the field it's hard to earn yourself cash a in a prospect ranking but for how he sounds he sounds like he's ready to go and he's healthy and i'll say it again
31:13 --> 31:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I know we're probably starting to like a broken record with the stuff, but this is just the truth and the type of guys the Mariners put in their system.
31:19 --> 31:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Another dude who is the man, and very easy to root for.
31:23 --> 31:41 [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of prospects we like talking to, but I would say two of them toward the very top of the list, Colt and Johnny, they're great, both of them are, I will say that's both of them are very serious about their work and very zoned in on being very good baseball
31:42 --> 31:50 [SPEAKER_00]: But in the right settings, in the right scenarios, they definitely both have personalities and you can definitely get some colorful answers.
31:50 --> 31:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Colorful answers out of them on certain things.
31:53 --> 31:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And Johnny's gonna get a ton of opportunity this spring.
31:56 --> 32:01 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners are gonna have plenty of at bats available in their outfield once those guys leave for the WBC.
32:02 --> 32:03 [SPEAKER_01]: So who on Randy are gone?
32:03 --> 32:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Someone's gotta play center, someone's gotta play left.
32:05 --> 32:08 [SPEAKER_01]: So Johnny's gonna get some opportunity get some real big league arms.
32:08 --> 32:14 [SPEAKER_01]: for a long time during sprint training, especially if those guys make runs deep into the WBC.
32:15 --> 32:17 [SPEAKER_01]: So that's only a positive forum.
32:17 --> 32:31 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll probably talk about them more on Monday's episode because I think Monday, we're going to really go through a lot of the non-roster invites that are going to be a big league camp, aka a lot of the prospects that are going to be really exciting that are there and who to be watching for.
32:32 --> 32:43 [SPEAKER_00]: We did talk to Kate Anderson a little bit too, people are curious about that, but the only real takeaways from him is he just hasn't thrown much since that big dominating start in the college world series.
32:45 --> 32:49 [SPEAKER_01]: and hoping to get more from Kade and talk to him a little bit more down in P.O.R.
32:49 --> 32:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, have a little bit more time.
32:51 --> 32:53 [SPEAKER_00]: And ever it too, because I'm assuming he'll start there.
32:53 --> 32:56 [SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully at some point when he's in ever, we'll get him on the pot at some point.
32:57 --> 33:04 [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, he's Kate, like, Kate's just a little on the quiet side is what we've picked up, which is, you know, to each their own, everybody's different.
33:04 --> 33:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Just how he seems like he's wired.
33:06 --> 33:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Then the last biggest news of the weekend is the murders now of new sunday jerseys.
33:11 --> 33:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I love it, I love the seal heads uniforms.
33:15 --> 33:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It's unfortunate though that they had to take away the creams to do it.
33:19 --> 33:23 [SPEAKER_00]: I know, so Major League Baseball only lets you use a certain amount of jerseys.
33:24 --> 33:27 [SPEAKER_00]: The city connects don't count toward that, but I think it's four combos I get.
33:28 --> 33:34 [SPEAKER_00]: So I believe the Mariners are now using the steel heads, the teal, the white, the navy blue, and the city connects.
33:35 --> 33:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Now if it was up to me, I would have banged the navy blues in a heartbeat and had them just where I don't know.
33:40 --> 33:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Have more of the teal uniforms on the road instead of the navy blues.
33:44 --> 33:46 [SPEAKER_00]: I would have been my vote.
33:46 --> 33:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, I really like the Sunday creams that being said, those still had jerseys are pretty awesome.
33:52 --> 33:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I love the hats too, because I have a steel attack.
33:54 --> 33:57 [SPEAKER_01]: You've probably seen it a ton here on the podcast.
33:57 --> 34:04 [SPEAKER_01]: It's it's such a clean look and I'm I'm I'm glad I'm glad they they made that decision to.
34:04 --> 34:23 [SPEAKER_01]: have them on Sundays and they're doing a lot of great things around it as well that I don't have up in front of me but if you saw the announcement you can go read it yourself it's it's a really good initiative by the mariners so I'm yeah I'm glad and I think it's they look great they'll be on Sunday night baseball in those uniforms and it's gonna look fabulous oh true
34:22 --> 34:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're donating a lot of money to some really good causes with the steel heads jerseys.
34:26 --> 34:28 [SPEAKER_00]: So overall, it's a very cool thing.
34:28 --> 34:31 [SPEAKER_00]: It just, it just does come at the expenses of the Sunday cream jerseys.
34:32 --> 34:37 [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll be honest, I, I just, I personally don't spend that much time thinking about jerseys.
34:37 --> 34:41 [SPEAKER_00]: First, cool as the Mariners jersey displays are like, and their jersey collection is.
34:42 --> 34:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Like if they want 100 games, I can play in white t-shirts for all I care.
34:46 --> 34:49 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to think of what Jersey I would get rid of the current one.
34:49 --> 34:53 [SPEAKER_01]: So they have the, you said four combinations or four Jersey tops.
34:54 --> 34:54 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll top.
34:55 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so they, yes, so they have the steel heads, they have white, they have teal and they have dark blue.
35:02 --> 35:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I would have gotten rid of the navy blues with the snap of the finger.
35:06 --> 35:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I would have put the teals on the road.
35:08 --> 35:14 [SPEAKER_00]: down the navy, down away with the navy blues, you could wear the Sunday creams and the steel heads at home.
35:15 --> 35:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Or you wear the Sunday creams on the road.
35:17 --> 35:19 [SPEAKER_01]: This is again bad podcasting, but yeah, I don't.
35:20 --> 35:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I guess I don't really care.
35:21 --> 35:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Which, if they were to, if I would want them to keep the creams and the steel heads and just pick one to get rid of.
35:26 --> 35:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Even if they got rid of the whites, like, oh well, they would never do that.
35:29 --> 35:37 [SPEAKER_00]: It's just the whites, the whites are standard jersey, but I don't know people, I don't like the teal, I do,
35:38 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I listen to salt this morning said in Monday morning say didn't like to Yeah, he's he's always had a weird gripe with the teal jerseys.
35:44 --> 35:45 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't really get it.
35:45 --> 35:56 [SPEAKER_00]: It's got a lot of weird gripes He does I can't even keep up with all the things that he has disdain for the list goes way too long So I've I've given up on trying to keep track, but I'll go go with the navy blows then.
35:56 --> 36:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll get I'll get rid of the navy blows Yeah, but again The mirrors went 100 games.
36:01 --> 36:02 [SPEAKER_00]: I can play a white t-shirts
36:03 --> 36:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's true.
36:04 --> 36:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you miss the graze at all?
36:06 --> 36:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, not really.
36:08 --> 36:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm probably with you.
36:09 --> 36:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Those great jerseys are usually pretty dull.
36:13 --> 36:16 [SPEAKER_00]: There's just, there's not, there's not that much excitement to him.
36:16 --> 36:17 [SPEAKER_01]: It's white except less exciting.
36:18 --> 36:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
36:19 --> 36:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I think the only other thing I had from this weekend is that ironically, the Geno signing happened while Justin Hollander was in the middle of his media session and the Mariners dug out and then he had to go up, then he had to go on top of the dug out and do his dugout session.
36:35 --> 36:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they're in goldsmith and the past is right after it with the fans asking him questions.
36:41 --> 36:42 [SPEAKER_01]: It's great timing.
36:45 --> 37:07 [SPEAKER_00]: even though I'm sure he knew where Gino was going, but to have it break then was right again I'm going to guess the mariners were pretty confident at that point they were getting Brendan Donovan anyway, so they're probably like, well, we'll wait a day and people be excited and that is true because because people are, but yeah, the timing was just you just don't expect it.
37:08 --> 37:11 [SPEAKER_00]: If again, and there's nothing
37:11 --> 37:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Justin Hollander did wrong.
37:12 --> 37:18 [SPEAKER_00]: It's just they decided they wanted Donovan over Gino, smartly so, Gino News broke first.
37:19 --> 37:21 [SPEAKER_00]: And the Hollander gave good answers on it.
37:21 --> 37:22 [SPEAKER_00]: He said, we truly love Gino.
37:22 --> 37:23 [SPEAKER_00]: He's a great guy.
37:24 --> 37:26 [SPEAKER_00]: And he did so much for our clubhouse.
37:26 --> 37:33 [SPEAKER_00]: But we just look at this roster as having some different needs in 26 than what Gino brings.
37:33 --> 37:34 [SPEAKER_00]: And Gino got a lot of money.
37:35 --> 37:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you could pay him $15 million.
37:40 --> 37:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
37:41 --> 37:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
37:42 --> 37:44 [SPEAKER_01]: And my big more productive than get more war, too.
37:44 --> 37:47 [SPEAKER_01]: And again, as we've talked about, is better fit on the roster.
37:48 --> 37:52 [SPEAKER_00]: He's making like an eighth of Boba Shet's salary and his passion tweeted out, they're similar players.
37:53 --> 37:54 [SPEAKER_01]: But it's just insane.
37:54 --> 37:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's a little bit of a cherry pick since 2024 Boba Shet was like a 500 OPS.
37:59 --> 38:01 [SPEAKER_01]: But hey, we're spin zone kinks.
38:03 --> 38:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
38:04 --> 38:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Again, I didn't even get to spin zone this on Monday's Brendan Donovan episode, but spin zone for the pod with Jorangelogon, that only gives our guy Logan Evans that much more leeway in 2027, which we love to see personally.
38:17 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_00]: We like Jorangelog.
38:18 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Don't get me wrong, but
38:20 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_00]: as Logan Evans guys like there's your spend zone and we're we're fired up for his future and and fire up for his first pocketbook to right could could not could not be better more major league time right show me the money yeah exactly uh should I leave people one Easter egg that may or may not have gotten to the end of this podcast no what is it one Easter egg that I don't want to make any
38:49 --> 38:55 [SPEAKER_00]: We think there is a more than decent chance.
38:56 --> 38:58 [SPEAKER_00]: We may get a certain catcher on the pod down at spring training.
39:00 --> 39:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh.
39:02 --> 39:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Think there's a more than decent chance.
39:05 --> 39:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to make any promises because obviously things can always happen.
39:08 --> 39:10 [SPEAKER_00]: But we think.
39:11 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_00]: So there's that little easter egg for anybody who's still listening to the episode.
39:15 --> 39:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Andrew Kissner, welcome to the podcast.
39:20 --> 39:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we'll get, uh, maybe we're actually getting, uh, what's his name, Connor Sharping on, who?
39:27 --> 39:28 [SPEAKER_00]: He's one of their prospects.
39:30 --> 39:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Josh Caron, he's another prospect, I don't know.
39:32 --> 39:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that one I know.
39:33 --> 39:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't, uh, yeah.
39:35 --> 39:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Is that bad I haven't heard of the first one?
39:37 --> 39:38 [SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's fine.
39:38 --> 39:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that's, we're gonna have Josh Caron and Andrew Kissner on and spring training for anybody that's going to be a fun episode.
39:44 --> 39:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like, it's like when PMT does the fullbacks.
39:46 --> 39:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Right, low man of the year.
39:50 --> 39:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
39:51 --> 39:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
39:51 --> 39:58 [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, we don't want to, in all seriousness, we don't want to make any definitive promises to people, but we're working on it.
39:58 --> 40:03 [SPEAKER_00]: And we, and if you made it, we feel, I was going to say, we feel pretty good about it.
40:04 --> 40:23 [SPEAKER_01]: And if you've made it this far in the episode for trivia night, which is by the way you're listening to this on Wednesday is one week from today February 11th, 7 p.m. Queen in Beer Hall, food, drinks, prizes, mariners trivia, getting you ready for spring training getting ready for the regular season.
40:23 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_01]: The grand prize by the way, Lao, floating this out there, could be some tickets.
40:30 --> 40:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Any old tickets?
40:31 --> 40:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, could be opening day tickets.
40:33 --> 40:40 [SPEAKER_01]: So if you need some incentive to come out to Marine Lair pod cast, trivia night, some pretty good incentive.
40:41 --> 40:43 [SPEAKER_01]: You could go win some opening day tickets.
40:43 --> 40:45 [SPEAKER_01]: So please, come out and support us.
40:45 --> 40:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Come have a good time.
40:46 --> 40:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Hoping to have a ton of people there eating some great food, hanging out, talking about the M's, or we're gonna try and make it as fun and festive as possible.
40:56 --> 40:59 [SPEAKER_01]: And hey, maybe we'll be double-dip in that day cause there'll be a parade earlier.
40:59 --> 41:00 [SPEAKER_00]: You never know.
41:00 --> 41:02 [SPEAKER_00]: be awesome.
41:02 --> 41:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like we'd definitely go to the parade and then just make it back for trivia, right?
41:05 --> 41:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh 100 percent.
41:06 --> 41:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
41:07 --> 41:07 [SPEAKER_00]: 100 percent.
41:08 --> 41:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:09 --> 41:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I just have to go at like 10, 10.
41:13 --> 41:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, dude, you need to like, well you'd work that day.
41:16 --> 41:19 [SPEAKER_01]: So you need to like, you could probably just leave your car where it is.
41:20 --> 41:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, or or somewhere and then just find your way downtown because there's
41:26 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, last time there was a parade, what was there like 700 people?
41:31 --> 41:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Was it that many?
41:32 --> 41:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my God.
41:32 --> 41:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was crazy.
41:33 --> 41:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I remember, because that was outside of my high school, because obviously everyone skipped.
41:36 --> 41:39 [SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to catch the bus downtown.
41:40 --> 41:46 [SPEAKER_01]: And it was like, we waited for maybe five, five to 10 buses because they were all full.
41:46 --> 41:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my God.
41:47 --> 41:47 [SPEAKER_01]: It was fine.
41:47 --> 41:48 [SPEAKER_01]: It was insane.
41:48 --> 41:50 [SPEAKER_01]: It was like so crazy.
41:50 --> 41:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:51 --> 42:17 [SPEAKER_00]: that'll be fun on would potentially give us a nice boost for trivia night though I know the turnout will be great anyway even if there isn't a parade that day right yes correct all right well good stuff that that's was a blast shout out to the manage for putting it on it was great shout out to everybody that we got to meet this weekend and here again close to the season man were were a few days away from the WBC players reporting down to spring training so
42:17 --> 42:23 [SPEAKER_00]: The Sea Harks have really taken us all the way up to Mariners season, and when that game ends on Sunday, we can turn the page right to the EMS.
42:24 --> 42:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Pretty cool.
42:25 --> 42:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I know.
42:25 --> 42:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Mike McDonald.
42:27 --> 42:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
42:28 --> 42:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Saviour.
42:29 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
42:30 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolute Saviour.
42:31 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_00]: All right.
42:32 --> 42:34 [SPEAKER_00]: That just about wraps up this edition of the Marine Lair podcast.
