01:02 --> 01:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it rolling!
01:17 --> 01:44 [SPEAKER_00]: And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Lair podcast part of the just baseball podcast network recording here on Wednesday evening February 18 have to take this a day earlier than normal But I'm honestly glad we taped it today because we will get an instant reaction to the Mariners re-signing Mitch Garver I think the only rational reaction all this while is now the Mariners are going to win the world series I got the drink in me going back to back
01:44 --> 01:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they haven't won once, but they're about to go back to back, because they got Mitch Garver.
01:48 --> 01:49 [SPEAKER_01]: He's back?
01:49 --> 01:50 [SPEAKER_01]: He's back?
01:50 --> 01:51 [SPEAKER_01]: He's back?
01:52 --> 01:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I think he's back for a third year, so he could say back to back to back.
01:55 --> 01:56 [SPEAKER_01]: So maybe the Drake line doesn't even work.
01:57 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_01]: He's back?
01:59 --> 02:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Does this mean that people, if he makes the roster, will not be mad at him anymore?
02:03 --> 02:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Because he'll be making if he makes this roster probably like a million dollars.
02:07 --> 02:10 [SPEAKER_00]: And it's okay for a backup captured and not be perfect if he's making a million dollars.
02:10 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Or will they still be mad at him?
02:12 --> 02:17 [SPEAKER_01]: In terms of how the general fan base will respond to it, let me give you a short and sweet answer to that.
02:19 --> 02:20 [SPEAKER_01]: No, no.
02:21 --> 02:28 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think people will be a logical for doing so, because like you just said, he is making less than the League minimum.
02:28 --> 02:30 [SPEAKER_01]: He's on a minor league contract.
02:30 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_01]: If he wins the job and is the backup catcher again, I think people should be okay with that.
02:35 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_01]: It was one thing when you were expecting him to be a two three-war player making $12 million a year who did not live up to that.
02:43 --> 02:47 [SPEAKER_01]: When he's making the less than the League minimum on a minor league deal,
02:47 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, he'd make the League minimum if he makes the Big League roster, obviously.
02:51 --> 02:57 [SPEAKER_01]: But if he's on a minor league deal, and he's your backup catcher, I would hope people are okay with that.
02:58 --> 03:06 [SPEAKER_00]: And I wouldn't put the odds of him making this team very high, like the Mariners backup catcher pool right now.
03:06 --> 03:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Remember when we were going to this office he's not like how did Danny Jansson sound like you really just you stock up on this like great backup catcher for cow who they maybe can split time and you can put the both in the line of a lot and now it is I mean it's headline by Andrew Kisner who is not been a good hitter his entire MLB career and on top of that is not a great defender and then we have Miss Garver who again is not known for his defense was a great hitter before he got to Seattle
03:33 --> 03:38 [SPEAKER_00]: and then posted in 89 WRC+, and then 86 WRC+.
03:39 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, and then there's that third guy from, we've talked about him from the twin.
03:43 --> 03:44 [SPEAKER_01]: But we can't remember his name.
03:44 --> 03:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Now, we forget it every time.
03:46 --> 03:49 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again, he's probably going to be the second catcher in Triple A at this point.
03:50 --> 03:58 [SPEAKER_01]: But in less, Garver, Kizner is off the team before the season starts, because they find a job elsewhere, they're traded, but Johnny Parita.
03:58 --> 04:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Johnny Parita, right?
04:00 --> 04:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, man.
04:01 --> 04:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I know they paid Kizner a million bucks.
04:04 --> 04:05 [SPEAKER_01]: A million bucks really isn't that much.
04:05 --> 04:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't scream long-term commitment.
04:09 --> 04:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like a part of the reason the Mariners signed Kizner when they did is they figured Garver's market might be a little bit more robust elsewhere.
04:18 --> 04:21 [SPEAKER_01]: And they didn't want to have to spend a couple million dollars on the idea to bring them back.
04:21 --> 04:22 [SPEAKER_01]: So they went cost-efficient.
04:23 --> 04:30 [SPEAKER_01]: But now that you got them back on a minor league deal, I feel like there's a chance Garver just wins this job
04:31 --> 04:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I just run it back like that with most of this roster just run it back the only things you wouldn't be running it back with for the most part would be Palanco and Gina but you place you replace Palanco with Donovan which might be an upgrade in the end so in a lot of ways it'd be pretty similar.
04:47 --> 04:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that there's a world Andrew Kisner's just the triple A catcher.
04:50 --> 05:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he has a rightness contract to refuse the assignment and go elsewhere but I would be pretty surprised that there's other teams that are lining up to go sign Andrew Kisner
05:01 --> 05:03 [SPEAKER_01]: So, it'll be a battle in spring training.
05:03 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there'll be competition.
05:05 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Would I be shocked to see Mitch Garver win that job?
05:08 --> 05:10 [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, I wouldn't.
05:10 --> 05:12 [SPEAKER_00]: At least there's something we know Mitch Garver does well.
05:12 --> 05:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Mitch Garver has a role like he had a role last year.
05:15 --> 05:20 [SPEAKER_00]: His role was to DH or catch a hit against left handers, which
05:20 --> 05:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Has been a part of his game that is not completely fallen apart.
05:24 --> 05:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Like the rest of his offense Fill off an absolute cliff once he came to Seattle breaking balls right handed pictures.
05:31 --> 05:32 [SPEAKER_00]: It just a trotace
05:32 --> 05:34 [SPEAKER_00]: But lefties, he's been pretty good.
05:34 --> 05:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Each of the two years he's been in Seattle, he has been at least above average against the lefty.
05:40 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_00]: So you can at least say that.
05:42 --> 05:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Andrew Kisner has, as we highlighted when they signed him as we could talk about right now, doesn't really have a strength, which I guess is in line with most backup catchers.
05:55 --> 06:00 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you were like weighing your options, do I want someone without a strength, maybe someone with a strength?
06:00 --> 06:07 [SPEAKER_01]: we'll see one knows this pitching staff inside and out and one of them spend four five extra days with them.
06:08 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I think in the end I'm gonna hedge my money on Mitch Garver ending up winning this job.
06:14 --> 06:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that for sure.
06:15 --> 06:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe there's something the Mariners about like about Kisner and expect him to take the back of catcher all.
06:21 --> 06:22 [SPEAKER_01]: He's obviously a little bit younger.
06:23 --> 06:28 [SPEAKER_01]: But if I had to sit here and make a bet right now I bet you Mitch Garver's the back of catcher.
06:28 --> 06:31 [SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I would say younger doesn't even really matter that much.
06:31 --> 06:34 [SPEAKER_00]: They're at like, this backup catchers are on a year to your basis.
06:34 --> 06:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one year at a time.
06:36 --> 06:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Mitch Garver is probably going to play once a week, guys.
06:38 --> 06:42 [SPEAKER_01]: So play on Sunday afternoons, maybe you mix in some midweek games here and there.
06:42 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_01]: When there is a lefty on the mound.
06:43 --> 06:47 [SPEAKER_01]: And for a guy that'd be on a minor league deal, I think that's totally okay.
06:47 --> 06:50 [SPEAKER_01]: That's not the $12 million he was making previously.
06:50 --> 06:55 [SPEAKER_00]: And there's always a chance that Garver has a bounce back offensive year.
06:55 --> 06:57 [SPEAKER_00]: But as the ages, it is less likely.
06:58 --> 07:01 [SPEAKER_00]: But unlike his nerg, Garver has shown in his past.
07:01 --> 07:04 [SPEAKER_00]: He's shown the ability to be in above average offends a player.
07:05 --> 07:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So you don't really lose much by having Mitch Garver on your team.
07:08 --> 07:12 [SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, I think you only have stuff to gain.
07:12 --> 07:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Cause what is like the worst case scenario of Mitch Garver allow?
07:15 --> 07:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's just what he did last two years.
07:17 --> 07:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Which didn't kill you.
07:19 --> 07:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, let me rephrase that.
07:20 --> 07:25 [SPEAKER_00]: It killed you in 2024 when he was your everyday DH and cleanup hitter.
07:25 --> 07:26 [SPEAKER_00]: That didn't work.
07:27 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_00]: But when he plays once a week, behind an MVP candidate catcher, it doesn't really matter as much.
07:34 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_01]: And again, on a minor league contract, he'd be making the league minimum.
07:37 --> 07:43 [SPEAKER_01]: By the way, you guys, when talking about Mitch Garber hitting lefties, I hope people will sit here and remember this.
07:44 --> 07:47 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners are not in the ALCS without Mitch Garmer.
07:47 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_01]: That's just a fact.
07:48 --> 07:59 [SPEAKER_01]: When they had to go face a lefty, the toughest one in the entire land in Terriq's Google, the only reason that game was won by the Mariners, the only reason that game even went to extra innings.
07:59 --> 08:04 [SPEAKER_01]: was because Mitch Garver was responsible for the first run of the game on the sack fly.
08:04 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_01]: It's the only reason.
08:06 --> 08:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, the only reason they were able to score against Eric Schoobl.
08:09 --> 08:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
08:09 --> 08:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was going to say Leo Reeves can tribute an RBI, obviously, too off the bench once they took Schoobl out of the game.
08:15 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_01]: But again, Schoobl, yes.
08:17 --> 08:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He was the only one to drive and run.
08:18 --> 08:20 [SPEAKER_01]: When Schoobl took Schoobl out of the game.
08:20 --> 08:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I forgot.
08:21 --> 08:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he made a business decision.
08:22 --> 08:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
08:23 --> 08:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, ALCS, contract, Scott Boris.
08:27 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Listen, listen.
08:29 --> 08:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I will stand on that about, you can't know definitively, but that he may or may not have made a business decision in that game.
08:37 --> 08:42 [SPEAKER_01]: And when you see the Tigers give them a bullshit 19 million dollar offer in arbitration.
08:43 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Or sorry, it's less about the arbitration.
08:45 --> 08:53 [SPEAKER_01]: When you see them offer the four year, 80 million dollar extension and you're scuba, it's like, you know, why would I throw 130 pitches and potentially put my arm on the line for you when I'm unpaid?
08:53 --> 08:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think I would.
08:55 --> 09:04 [SPEAKER_00]: But in the heat of all of that, when Terry's scuba looked about as good as Terry's scuba looked in that game on a big stage, Mitch Garver was the one who drove in the run.
09:04 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Josh Dealer, that off that, ending with a triple?
09:07 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Double?
09:08 --> 09:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Double triple.
09:09 --> 09:10 [SPEAKER_01]: And then he stole third.
09:11 --> 09:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
09:12 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_00]: The only, like, we're just out there saying, Mitch, make contact.
09:16 --> 09:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Mitch, this is a lefty, this is, this is why you are on the team to face lefties.
09:21 --> 09:24 [SPEAKER_00]: To have a DH, you can face lefty.
09:24 --> 09:24 [SPEAKER_00]: What did you do?
09:25 --> 09:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Zack, fly.
09:25 --> 09:26 [SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
09:27 --> 09:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Mitch Garver, unsung hero, the ALCS run.
09:29 --> 09:34 [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be that they aren't going to make a doc about losing in the ALCS.
09:34 --> 09:36 [SPEAKER_00]: This time I don't think, I don't think.
09:37 --> 09:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they still well.
09:38 --> 09:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they will.
09:40 --> 09:42 [SPEAKER_00]: But that would have been in the dock.
09:42 --> 09:44 [SPEAKER_00]: I think we said that post episode.
09:44 --> 09:45 [SPEAKER_00]: I was a lot of episodes ago.
09:45 --> 09:45 [SPEAKER_00]: But I think we said that.
09:45 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like this would be in there.
09:47 --> 09:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, little different.
09:49 --> 09:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I said if the Mariners win the world series, Leo Rivas will be a big part of the document.
09:53 --> 09:54 [SPEAKER_01]: That was true.
09:55 --> 09:55 [SPEAKER_01]: He would have been.
09:56 --> 09:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
09:58 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
09:58 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
09:58 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_01]: And I will say this.
09:59 --> 10:00 [SPEAKER_01]: I will stamp it right here.
10:01 --> 10:08 [SPEAKER_01]: If the Mariners make a mile my two of 2025, it will be getting torn to shreds on this podcast.
10:09 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_00]: The only the the mile my two needs to be world series.
10:13 --> 10:17 [SPEAKER_01]: That's yes, there's no mile my two for losing another LCS.
10:17 --> 10:21 [SPEAKER_00]: They have they have full permission to do that if they win a trophy if they don't want a trophy.
10:21 --> 10:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I get it.
10:24 --> 10:26 [SPEAKER_01]: We have a really talked about this and we don't have to spend much time on it.
10:27 --> 10:32 [SPEAKER_01]: But it's part of where I'm torn a little bit on this new statue that the Mariners are putting up in the ballpark.
10:32 --> 10:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Let me, let me preface it with this.
10:34 --> 10:44 [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of it is paying tribute to 9-11 and to 2001 and to everything that happened then and it's got my camera holding the flag.
10:45 --> 10:48 [SPEAKER_01]: And if that is its main purpose, this new statue, totally got it.
10:48 --> 10:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a really nice gesture.
10:53 --> 11:03 [SPEAKER_01]: That is where you lose me because I say you're commemorating a season where you got boat raced and five by the Yankees Yeah, mm-hmm to be fair.
11:03 --> 11:15 [SPEAKER_00]: It's just thinking about this In the digital age that we're in every team has their own video team They put out all sorts of hype videos and season promos and such
11:16 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_00]: isn't it almost like require that teams make a version of a mile my documentary every year not the full dock but they will make you know for a season where they end up in the ALCS they will make something commemorating that yeah that i mean that's all well and good because in the age of social media that's going to be about a two minute video you recap a lot that's all fine yeah my my documentary is a documentary it's an hour
11:44 --> 11:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can't have an hour on a season where you lost in the ALCS, the only documentaries that we approve of from here on out, or maybe even in the recent past, is that John Boyz documentary about the Mariners, which was just, it was a masterpiece.
11:59 --> 12:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Total masterpiece, which is amazing because they're not even like, diehard Mariners fans.
12:05 --> 12:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they are Mariners fans.
12:06 --> 12:14 [SPEAKER_01]: They just did unbelievable research into every little detail about the team and crushed it.
12:14 --> 12:23 [SPEAKER_00]: So anyways, that's a long round about way of talking about Mitch Garver back with the Mariners and we will see him when we were down there on Monday.
12:23 --> 12:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so let's do a couple housekeeping things with us.
12:27 --> 12:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, although I will say, don't people know this is how it's going to go.
12:31 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_01]: When we take a topic, it's going to spin to other topics.
12:33 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Somehow Mitch Garver turns into no more mile-my-docs and a statue about getting boat race and five by the Yankees.
12:41 --> 12:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Have you ever seen those videos where it's like, you're on Wikipedia, and you need to get to a certain topic in 10 clicks.
12:49 --> 12:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Have you seen that?
12:50 --> 12:51 [SPEAKER_01]: That's almost what we do.
12:51 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty much what that was.
12:53 --> 13:05 [SPEAKER_01]: It basically be us doing a challenge of, can you go from, can griffy junior and the greatness of his Mariners career to, how are you going to talk about Jose V. Drow's shortstop defense?
13:06 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Could we get from,
13:09 --> 13:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Could we get from Mitch Garver to I was gonna say the 1995 LDS, but I think that would be really easy to just go mariners and then you'd go yeah you'd figure it can't review junior and then you would go like 95 yeah that would be too easy what do we think would be harder it's like going from Mitch Garver to I don't know let's pick it pick a top what's something we just talked about statues
13:38 --> 13:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to Jim, Mitch Garver to Jim LaFever in five clicks, can you do it?
13:44 --> 13:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Let us know in the comments below.
13:46 --> 13:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
13:47 --> 13:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we do have a couple of housekeeping things.
13:49 --> 13:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
13:51 --> 13:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Number one, like you just mentioned, we will be at spring training boots on the ground in Piora.
13:58 --> 14:05 [SPEAKER_01]: All of next week we land Sunday afternoon Sunday evening and we will be there from Monday all the way through Saturday evening.
14:05 --> 14:10 [SPEAKER_01]: So if you are there and you're going to be around the complex, please stop us.
14:10 --> 14:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Please come say hi.
14:12 --> 14:20 [SPEAKER_01]: If you see us at the game, if you see us walk around the complex, make sure to come find us and hopefully we'll get to talk to a bunch of Mariners fans there.
14:20 --> 14:21 [SPEAKER_00]: That'll be a lot of fun.
14:22 --> 14:24 [SPEAKER_00]: I have some great content lined up.
14:24 --> 14:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Looking forward to that much more content.
14:27 --> 14:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Check the weather.
14:28 --> 14:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Don't you check the weather?
14:29 --> 14:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, it looks nice.
14:31 --> 14:35 [SPEAKER_01]: It is low of 78.
14:35 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that, okay, the lowest high weather day we're gonna get, like, is 78 degrees.
14:41 --> 14:44 [SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be from 78 to 83 all week.
14:45 --> 14:46 [SPEAKER_01]: it's going to be great.
14:46 --> 14:47 [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be.
14:47 --> 14:49 [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be good.
14:49 --> 14:50 [SPEAKER_00]: We each of the two years we've been down there.
14:50 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_00]: There's been like a cloud and rain day.
14:52 --> 14:53 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we have one.
14:54 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think we had one last year.
14:56 --> 14:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Like not even like an overcast day.
14:58 --> 14:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a little not too much.
15:00 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I'm going to be packing many long sleeves.
15:01 --> 15:02 [SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
15:02 --> 15:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was going to say my pack one.
15:04 --> 15:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I might pick at night or when we get there in the morning, but that's it.
15:08 --> 15:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm at I might pack a pair of jeans for at some point, but that's about it.
15:13 --> 15:13 [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be nice.
15:13 --> 15:17 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you're down there from the 23rd through the 28th, we will be there.
15:18 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be around the facility.
15:19 --> 15:21 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be interviewing players.
15:21 --> 15:24 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll be walking amongst fans, doing content, going to the games.
15:25 --> 15:27 [SPEAKER_00]: You see us, come say hi, send us a DM.
15:28 --> 15:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Always open to saying hello.
15:29 --> 15:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I met a lot of really great people at Spring Training last year.
15:32 --> 15:34 [SPEAKER_00]: And hope that we can meet a lot more of them.
15:34 --> 15:35 [SPEAKER_00]: That's Spring Training this year as well.
15:35 --> 15:38 [SPEAKER_01]: And the year before, each of the first two years we've gone, it's been great.
15:39 --> 15:41 [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to do a fan interview, too, come find us.
15:42 --> 15:43 [SPEAKER_01]: We will do fan interviews also.
15:43 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Number two, Lyle and I have an event we will be at on Friday with our friends at Lids.
15:50 --> 15:52 [SPEAKER_00]: So here's the sort of load down on this.
15:52 --> 15:59 [SPEAKER_00]: If you want to come hang out with us, we will be at Bellevue Square at the Seattle Team Store at Bellevue Square, where we did that.
15:59 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_00]: If you guys remember, before game one of the ALDS,
16:05 --> 16:08 [SPEAKER_00]: search at that Seattle team store.
16:08 --> 16:13 [SPEAKER_00]: It'll be that same location and we're going to be helping put on an event with lids.
16:13 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_00]: They're at Bellevue and we're going to have a special guest.
16:16 --> 16:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I was going to get to that.
16:17 --> 16:19 [SPEAKER_00]: We got a special guest.
16:19 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say, so maybe you think to yourself, oh, that sounds like a cool event.
16:22 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_01]: They're going to have Super Bowl gear.
16:24 --> 16:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, there's always mariners gear in the store.
16:26 --> 16:27 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll be there hanging out.
16:27 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_01]: You want to come talk some ball with us.
16:29 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, that's a good enough sales pitch on your own.
16:31 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_01]: But hey,
16:32 --> 16:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you say to yourself, I'm still not sold yet.
16:35 --> 16:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I need another sweetener.
16:36 --> 16:38 [SPEAKER_01]: You wanna give people a sweetener?
16:38 --> 16:43 [SPEAKER_00]: The guests that will be there, helping with this Liz event, is gonna be Nick Emanori.
16:43 --> 16:48 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you wanna come say hi to Nick Emanori, that's gonna be the place to do so.
16:49 --> 16:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I would recommend getting there early because I'm gonna imagine there's gonna be a lot of people that wanna talk to Nick Emanori.
16:56 --> 16:57 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly.
16:57 --> 16:58 [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's gonna be signing.
16:59 --> 17:00 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure he's gonna be signing there.
17:01 --> 17:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Liz is doing a push for their Super Bowl merch.
17:03 --> 17:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you want some Super Bowl merch,
17:08 --> 17:09 [SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be the place to go.
17:10 --> 17:10 [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll be there.
17:11 --> 17:18 [SPEAKER_00]: It's the event time is 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 20th at Bellevue Square, the Seattle Team Store.
17:18 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_00]: We'll see you guys there.
17:20 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Can't wait.
17:21 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_00]: And then before we get into this mailbag or a reminder to everybody, the way to get in on these mailbacks and make sure questions get answered every week.
17:29 --> 17:33 [SPEAKER_00]: If you think you want mailbag priority is going to go to our patreon.
17:33 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_00]: You got to go to patreon.com slash marine layer pot.
17:35 --> 17:37 [SPEAKER_00]: If you sign up, you get some really awesome perks.
17:37 --> 17:41 [SPEAKER_00]: You get access to ad free episodes, priority for mailbag questions.
17:41 --> 17:44 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you have questions every week, they'll always get answered.
17:44 --> 17:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And you have the opportunity to hope on a hop on a video call with Lala and I once a month.
17:50 --> 17:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Just talk mariners, the whole time.
17:52 --> 17:58 [SPEAKER_00]: So the place to go do that is patreon.com slash Marine Lairpot that's patreon.com slash Marine Lairpot.
17:59 --> 18:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Feel free to go check it out.
18:01 --> 18:03 [SPEAKER_00]: First question on the mail bag Lyle comes from Bryson.
18:03 --> 18:06 [SPEAKER_00]: He's got a couple, so we'll jump around here or they're quick though.
18:07 --> 18:20 [SPEAKER_00]: He says, I know you guys might have answered similar questions before, forgive me for this, but at spring training, favorite breakfast place is.
18:20 --> 18:23 [SPEAKER_00]: hash kitchen is great, and I got another one if you're closer to Phoenix.
18:23 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_00]: I think they have a couple locations.
18:25 --> 18:30 [SPEAKER_00]: The best breakfast overall still I've eaten in the Phoenix area is Matt's big breakfast.
18:30 --> 18:32 [SPEAKER_00]: It's really, really good.
18:32 --> 18:35 [SPEAKER_00]: They don't have one in Peoria, I don't think.
18:35 --> 18:39 [SPEAKER_00]: The one I went to was in downtown Phoenix, but I know they got a couple spread out across the valley.
18:39 --> 18:42 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you're near one of those, it's really yummy.
18:42 --> 18:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
18:43 --> 18:45 [SPEAKER_01]: And then he asked favorite drink spot also.
18:46 --> 18:50 [SPEAKER_01]: And I would say for this, again, there's not a ton of places in Peoria for this.
18:51 --> 18:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there are bars just none we've been really gravitated towards.
18:55 --> 19:02 [SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, if you want me to list bars in Arizona that I like to go to, I mean, I'll start rattling off all the places we love to just
19:03 --> 19:08 [SPEAKER_01]: go all the time on weekends in Tempe, if you're gonna be in near Tempe, which is on Mill Avenue.
19:09 --> 19:14 [SPEAKER_00]: But the thing is with this question, I feel like he's less so asking, where do we go out?
19:15 --> 19:19 [SPEAKER_00]: It's more so, where's a cool spot to grab a drink and hang out?
19:20 --> 19:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
19:21 --> 19:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
19:22 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, I mean, I'm gonna be honest.
19:25 --> 19:26 [SPEAKER_00]: I know we went to school there.
19:26 --> 19:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Given that that wasn't really our vibe when we're in school,
19:30 --> 19:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I have a good answer for that, to be honest, like a cool bar with a nice view and a nice lounge and a good drink selection, I don't know.
19:40 --> 19:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Listen man, you want to go to Casa, you want to go to Loki, you want to go to a whiskey rose, not there anymore.
19:47 --> 19:52 [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to go to any of those places on Mill Avenue, we couldn't recommend them enough.
19:53 --> 19:56 [SPEAKER_01]: same thing with a lot of the places in Old Town Scottsdale, which we used to go to.
19:56 --> 20:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I will say if you want more drink recommendations that are up the alley of what you were describing, we're cool spot to hang out.
20:06 --> 20:25 [SPEAKER_01]: cool view have a drink the view the view part of it I don't know about as much but I would say like two places that you could check out that I would say we recommend one is fuzzies which look that's on mill avenue but it's great Mexican food they have great drinks they have great margaritas and it's it's by a mountain in tempies so that's cool.
20:25 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_00]: I like fuzzies a lot.
20:26 --> 20:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's great food and drinks.
20:28 --> 20:33 [SPEAKER_01]: The other one I would say is this is an old town Scottsdale I think, but it's a little more laid back.
20:34 --> 20:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Boondocks?
20:35 --> 20:35 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a cool one.
20:35 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, boondocks is nice.
20:37 --> 20:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Younger crowd, but yeah, if you want to, it's a nice big open space for sure.
20:41 --> 20:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
20:42 --> 20:44 [SPEAKER_00]: So, it's people in their 20s, but it's a cool.
20:44 --> 20:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
20:45 --> 20:51 [SPEAKER_00]: So, if that's your vibe, Bryson, those are the recommendations if we're looking for other ones, we will take suggestions.
20:52 --> 20:55 [SPEAKER_00]: But just like, Lao and I haven't spent much time there as like adults and not working.
20:56 --> 20:58 [SPEAKER_00]: We've taken one vacation trip to Arizona.
20:59 --> 21:08 [SPEAKER_00]: That was in 2023, but otherwise, all of our trips there have been either for like, we went to a wedding and we've been to spring training twice.
21:09 --> 21:15 [SPEAKER_01]: And every time we go that's not spring training related, it's doing all the same stuff we do when we were at ASU.
21:15 --> 21:24 [SPEAKER_01]: We go out to Mill Avenue and Old Town Scottsdale and we went to the Phoenix Open and yeah, we didn't even go to spring training games as fans because whenever we go to spring training, we've been working the game.
21:24 --> 21:27 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's all the typical things we do when we were at ASU.
21:27 --> 21:29 [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't as much.
21:30 --> 21:31 [SPEAKER_01]: sightseeing, if that makes sense.
21:32 --> 21:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and if it was backwards like for Seattle, it'd be like, if the only place we need to go out in Seattle was like, Rinehouse or Kings Hardware.
21:39 --> 21:44 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, there are other places than just those places to like enjoy beverages.
21:44 --> 21:45 [SPEAKER_00]: If that's what you fancy.
21:45 --> 21:51 [SPEAKER_00]: So a price in I hope eventually we'll have better answers for that for the vibe you're looking for.
21:51 --> 21:53 [SPEAKER_00]: But if one of those did work,
21:54 --> 21:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Great.
21:54 --> 21:55 [SPEAKER_00]: That's awesome.
21:55 --> 21:59 [SPEAKER_01]: We did get a lot of questions from people this week about do you have spring training recommendations?
22:00 --> 22:00 [SPEAKER_01]: What would you do?
22:00 --> 22:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I would say we kind of took people through an entire how to a couple male bag episodes ago about spring training and we really went and depth on it.
22:08 --> 22:18 [SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to hear more of that you can either go back and listen or if you DM us we will do our absolute best to respond to all of them to give people recommendations but I will say food wise.
22:18 --> 22:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we know the places we're going to be going.
22:20 --> 22:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we're going to Leo's Island at least twice.
22:22 --> 22:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure we're going to be on it in and out.
22:25 --> 22:30 [SPEAKER_01]: It's certainly wouldn't shock me if we're raising Keynes, because raising Keynes in and out are like our two-fat.
22:30 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you know where we can go to Keynes here now, too?
22:33 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it turns such a tough location in the sense that there's nowhere to park for that.
22:37 --> 22:41 [SPEAKER_01]: It's in you village on a busy street.
22:42 --> 22:43 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, well I'll go.
22:43 --> 22:45 [SPEAKER_00]: I can bring you your kids anyway.
22:45 --> 22:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Not that far away.
22:46 --> 22:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you can now go because raising kids just open and Seattle But I always think of it as an Arizona staple.
22:51 --> 22:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's a lot of places, but they have a lot of them in Arizona And it was our thing in college another thing we did at ASU.
22:57 --> 23:02 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm sure besides Leo's island barbecue Knowing our two favorite fast food places or canes in and out.
23:02 --> 23:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure we're gonna be having that and then we'll usually mix another things like hash kitchen Yeah hash kitchen would be good.
23:07 --> 23:12 [SPEAKER_01]: We should go get some Mexican food somewhere
23:12 --> 23:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:12 --> 23:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that would be good.
23:14 --> 23:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:14 --> 23:17 [SPEAKER_00]: That or God, remember there's this place in North Phoenix.
23:17 --> 23:18 [SPEAKER_00]: I went to in school.
23:18 --> 23:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I was so good.
23:19 --> 23:21 [SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember the name of that spot.
23:21 --> 23:23 [SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was really yummy.
23:23 --> 23:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Divish had a recommendation, too.
23:24 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_01]: May were born people with us will move on in a second.
23:26 --> 23:31 [SPEAKER_01]: But Divish had a recommendation, too, that he talked about on Brock and Salk.
23:31 --> 23:35 [SPEAKER_01]: It's called, I think jalapeno sonora is what he called it.
23:35 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's, what he described is really, really good tacos for $3 each.
23:42 --> 23:43 [SPEAKER_00]: sounds good.
23:43 --> 23:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and they have good drinks too apparently.
23:45 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:46 --> 23:47 [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, a divvices special.
23:47 --> 23:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, drinks and drinks and tacos.
23:49 --> 23:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:50 --> 23:52 [SPEAKER_01]: So there's an Arizona food and drinks special.
23:52 --> 23:59 [SPEAKER_01]: If for anybody that's going down the spring training, if you want more of a walkthrough, again, we did a big one, a couple, melt that, melt that gap of such a go if you want to go find that.
23:59 --> 24:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Bracing at a bonus for us.
24:01 --> 24:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Pick one or the other.
24:03 --> 24:09 [SPEAKER_00]: You never get to watch the Mariners game live again, but the Mariners win back to back to back world series championships.
24:10 --> 24:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Or you get free tickets for life, accommodations to all the way games, to include meals, travel and hotel, and given a minority ownership stake in the Mariners, but they never even make it back to the LCS again.
24:26 --> 24:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Look, Bryson, love the creativity.
24:28 --> 24:29 [SPEAKER_01]: You're an awesome Patreon member.
24:29 --> 24:32 [SPEAKER_01]: You always send us great questions, but come on.
24:32 --> 24:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't take the second answer to that.
24:35 --> 24:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna be for the people.
24:36 --> 24:37 [SPEAKER_01]: You guys know that.
24:37 --> 24:39 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna take the first question.
24:39 --> 24:41 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners are gonna win back to back world series.
24:41 --> 24:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll give up whatever I have to give up.
24:43 --> 24:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Bryson mentions here.
24:44 --> 24:46 [SPEAKER_01]: You can't watch the game live in this scenario.
24:47 --> 24:52 [SPEAKER_01]: So in these scenarios, I would tape the game, watch after.
24:52 --> 24:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I guess follow on the MLB app or some other way during.
24:55 --> 25:03 [SPEAKER_01]: and then still be able to watch all the games and still see the highlights on Twitter and still need to know everything I need to know so we can do this podcast, and then they went back to the back world series.
25:04 --> 25:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Do you think we could listen to the game?
25:06 --> 25:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Probably not.
25:08 --> 25:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Probably not, but again there's other ways you can see the Twitter highlights, you can follow all the people tweeting about the game each night.
25:14 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_01]: You can see the MLB app and watch the pitch by pitch.
25:19 --> 25:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the most important thing, we can still glow that the Mariners are back to back-to-back world series champions.
25:24 --> 25:26 [SPEAKER_00]: That's all I want.
25:26 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to be able to glow.
25:27 --> 25:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, for as cool as the Seahawks parade was last week when they had it, and as amazing as it was to see the Seahawks win the Super Bowl again.
25:35 --> 25:45 [SPEAKER_01]: I can't know it for sure, but I just feel like when the Mariners win that world series, you are going to see vibes in the city, like you have never ever seen before.
25:45 --> 25:48 [SPEAKER_01]: The scene after they win it, the parade, all of it, man.
25:49 --> 25:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I just think it's going to be something so unprecedented.
25:54 --> 26:00 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the second option would be like you're being your misery is being bought.
26:00 --> 26:02 [SPEAKER_00]: You would be like tied.
26:03 --> 26:04 [SPEAKER_00]: to being miserable as fans.
26:05 --> 26:06 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I want that.
26:06 --> 26:09 [SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather have winning frankly.
26:09 --> 26:13 [SPEAKER_00]: However, whatever it takes, as loud as it will, will sacrifice whatever it takes.
26:13 --> 26:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
26:13 --> 26:15 [SPEAKER_00]: That's a great question, Bryce, and thank you for that.
26:16 --> 26:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Next question comes from Zander on Patreon.
26:18 --> 26:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Zander's question is, with the pile of arms coming into spring training and maybe two spots left out of our presumed bullpen, with the Mariners consider carrying a third lefty in the bullpen, would it be for the options that are there?
26:32 --> 26:39 [SPEAKER_01]: It feels unlikely, feels like if one of Spire or Ferrer would get hurt, that's when you'd bring up that third option.
26:39 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_01]: And the only other way they are in that job is if they really just tear it up during spring training.
26:44 --> 26:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Because if you look at the eight bullpen spots, right, five of them you know are absolutely secured.
26:48 --> 26:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Munoz, brash, Spire, Bizarro, Ferrer.
26:52 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_01]: You know those ones are secure.
26:54 --> 26:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Carlos Vargas?
26:55 --> 27:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say he will probably be back in the bullpen, yes, he would likely be there.
27:02 --> 27:04 [SPEAKER_01]: So that leaves two spots.
27:05 --> 27:06 [SPEAKER_01]: is there gonna be a long reliever?
27:07 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, would they put Emerson Hancock in the bullpen?
27:10 --> 27:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it feels unlikely at this point.
27:12 --> 27:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that they don't have Logan Evans this year and they're gonna need to start to out of them, so probably not Hancock, but I think there's just too many other relievers in camp that you might look to to earn those outings.
27:22 --> 27:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I think people believe Alex, Hoppy could make some noise in camp.
27:26 --> 27:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I still think people believe Troy Taylor could really bounce back in this camp.
27:30 --> 27:35 [SPEAKER_01]: A name we have not talked about in a long time, but if he's healthy this year and he's back to throw in strikes,
27:35 --> 27:36 [SPEAKER_01]: maybe here in the spot again.
27:36 --> 27:39 [SPEAKER_01]: There's a few other names you could throw in there too.
27:40 --> 27:48 [SPEAKER_01]: It just seems unlikely that the pile of lefties that they have past fire and for air would be on the opening day roster.
27:49 --> 28:09 [SPEAKER_00]: And the thing about lefty relievers too is they need to be better than their righty counterpart counterparts to have the same impact I think because righty's inherently have the advantage over more hitters than lefty's do just think about the breakdown of players and people in society what 70% of people are right handed or more more than that.
28:10 --> 28:14 [SPEAKER_00]: So a right handed picture is going to have the advantage over more hitters than lefties.
28:15 --> 28:19 [SPEAKER_00]: So the Mariners would, I think, lean that way.
28:19 --> 28:29 [SPEAKER_00]: And like, think about this, if you ought to regular lefty with average stuff throwing 95 versus a regular righty with average stuff throwing 95, the team, I think would take the righty every single time.
28:29 --> 28:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Because the lefty would essentially be what, like, your lefty specialist.
28:35 --> 28:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Like that would be it, you don't need a lefty specialist.
28:37 --> 28:41 [SPEAKER_00]: You have lefty specialists who have amazing stuff.
28:41 --> 28:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I would just go for the best reliever available.
28:45 --> 28:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's right.
28:46 --> 28:47 [SPEAKER_01]: And they'll see who runs it and camp.
28:47 --> 28:51 [SPEAKER_01]: There's gonna be a lot of pictures and camp working to earn spots.
28:51 --> 28:53 [SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see who runs it.
28:54 --> 28:55 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not that it can't be one of those guys.
28:55 --> 28:56 [SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like it's unlikely.
28:58 --> 29:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Mitchell on YouTube asks who should get the opening day start.
29:03 --> 29:06 [SPEAKER_01]: There's a pretty compelling case for both guys, isn't there?
29:06 --> 29:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Cause it's gonna be one or two guys.
29:08 --> 29:10 [SPEAKER_01]: It'll be Logan Gilbert, or it'll be Brian Wu.
29:10 --> 29:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Louise Castillo's gonna start any more opening days.
29:15 --> 29:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like they're gonna give it back to Logan Gilbert.
29:18 --> 29:20 [SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like he's earned that.
29:21 --> 29:24 [SPEAKER_01]: But, it could go either way, man.
29:24 --> 29:29 [SPEAKER_01]: If you were asking me my gut feeling, I think you will see Logan Gilbert start opening day.
29:30 --> 29:32 [SPEAKER_00]: It's gonna be Logan Gilbert, and I'll tell you why.
29:33 --> 29:39 [SPEAKER_00]: If they're still trying to sign them to an extension, he better be starting opening day because you gotta show them how much of a priority he is.
29:41 --> 29:42 [SPEAKER_00]: It might just be small.
29:42 --> 29:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Starting the first game of the season versus the second game of the season.
29:45 --> 29:53 [SPEAKER_00]: But if you're trying to get that dude to sign ink to paper, you bend over backwards to make him feel as valued as possible.
29:53 --> 29:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Brian was time will come.
29:55 --> 29:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Like he might be the opening day starting next year of the year after that.
29:58 --> 30:09 [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't see the downside in just starting Logan Gilbert on an opening day, even if you sit here right now and you think Brian was a better starting pitcher than Logan Gilbert.
30:10 --> 30:11 [SPEAKER_00]: It's something I don't believe by the way.
30:12 --> 30:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they're the case is still out on which one of them is actually better.
30:17 --> 30:18 [SPEAKER_00]: So that's the case.
30:19 --> 30:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Then yeah, you should start Logan Gilbert on an opening day.
30:21 --> 30:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Like what's the downside?
30:22 --> 30:26 [SPEAKER_00]: The first three guys in the rotation will all make the same amount of starts this year.
30:27 --> 30:39 [SPEAKER_01]: That's like, like, that's just math, the, the, the, the season and rotations get mixed around and you have to skip a start sometimes or you reshuffle a rotation after the all star break things like that.
30:39 --> 30:48 [SPEAKER_01]: So you're right after a couple of times through the rotation after the season starts, it won't really matter, Brian would really good here, really good.
30:49 --> 30:55 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's, it's hard to look, it's hard to look somebody in the eye that pitched that well and say, yeah, it's not you.
30:56 --> 31:05 [SPEAKER_00]: but it is, but it like Logan Gilbert is a year removed from 200 innings, 200 strikeouts, one of the best pictures in the AL.
31:06 --> 31:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, Logan Gilbert, we'll probably get the old many days to start, yes.
31:12 --> 31:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and they're both unbelievable.
31:13 --> 31:18 [SPEAKER_00]: So as long as both of them are starting the first two days of the season, like totally fine with me.
31:18 --> 31:19 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
31:19 --> 31:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Next question.
31:20 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wait.
31:21 --> 31:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I think you got something to read.
31:22 --> 31:31 [SPEAKER_01]: I do we will get to the rest of them mail by questions here in just a second But let's talk to you guys about our friends over at Pagaches Pub 85 because you guys know It's a great neighborhood bar in Kirkland.
31:31 --> 31:34 [SPEAKER_01]: It's an awesome spot to hang out There's 20 TVs in the place.
31:34 --> 31:39 [SPEAKER_01]: So when Mariners spring training game start, which is gonna be by the time this episode's out
31:39 --> 31:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Games will be underway, and if you want games to watch all year during spring training, during the regular season, you can head over there and hang out with your friends.
31:46 --> 31:55 [SPEAKER_01]: There's darts in the place, there's pool at that place, there's great food, and if you want drink specials that you really can't match anywhere else, you can go over to their happy hours.
31:55 --> 32:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Two to six PM, Monday through Friday, drinks are three in four dollars, they are awesome deals that's all over at Pagaches Pub 85 in Kirkland.
32:03 --> 32:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Alexander on Twitter asks, will JP or Crawford be replaced by a younger and better player this season and have so by who and when?
32:12 --> 32:13 [SPEAKER_00]: He won't.
32:13 --> 32:17 [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be the shortstop this year and I think that's a good thing.
32:18 --> 32:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Not necessarily because of his defense.
32:19 --> 32:23 [SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about it for multiple years on this podcast as we mentioned before.
32:24 --> 32:29 [SPEAKER_01]: But JP is about a 2.5-3-1 player and it's still his value to this team.
32:29 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He is still in above average offensive player.
32:32 --> 32:45 [SPEAKER_01]: and he is a guy that really helps flip the line up over at the bottom of the line up where when you have him and Donovan nine to one with two guys who have a really really good awareness of the strike zone, a good approach, they don't strike out a bunch, that's valuable.
32:46 --> 32:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Cold Emerson long term is going to be the short stop of this team.
32:49 --> 32:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I would love to see him get some time and short stop this year because I think he's got a chance to be really good at it.
32:54 --> 32:56 [SPEAKER_01]: But for how this roster is constructed,
32:57 --> 33:00 [SPEAKER_01]: J.P. is going to be the shortstop.
33:01 --> 33:10 [SPEAKER_00]: And there's a chance if you started if you ran two simulations of the season one where Emerson starts every game at shortstop and one where J.P. starts every game at shortstop.
33:10 --> 33:11 [SPEAKER_00]: J.P. still beats him in war.
33:11 --> 33:12 [SPEAKER_00]: It's still better player.
33:13 --> 33:16 [SPEAKER_00]: If that's the case, I don't see any reason in J.P. getting replaced.
33:17 --> 33:23 [SPEAKER_00]: These one of the best players on this team, there should not be.
33:23 --> 33:28 [SPEAKER_00]: a mission to replace JP Crawford this season because if that does happen, your team gets worse.
33:29 --> 33:30 [SPEAKER_00]: That should not be the goal of this season.
33:31 --> 33:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I've a little nugget I want to throw out here.
33:33 --> 33:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Among all players on the Mariners between 2021 and this past season, the most valuable by war.
33:40 --> 33:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Number one cow.
33:42 --> 33:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Fan grabs by the way.
33:43 --> 33:44 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why cows above Julio.
33:44 --> 33:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Julio number two.
33:46 --> 33:47 [SPEAKER_00]: So cows at 23.
33:47 --> 33:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Julio's at 21.
33:49 --> 33:52 [SPEAKER_00]: JPM is at 14.6, very good.
33:53 --> 33:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Last five years.
33:54 --> 33:56 [SPEAKER_00]: It's been worth on average about three wins a year.
33:56 --> 33:57 [SPEAKER_00]: It's really good.
33:58 --> 34:02 [SPEAKER_00]: The next closest mariner, Randy Rosarena, 3.8.
34:03 --> 34:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, some of that is duration on the roster.
34:06 --> 34:07 [SPEAKER_00]: That's the whole point.
34:08 --> 34:09 [SPEAKER_00]: That's the point.
34:10 --> 34:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
34:11 --> 34:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Other guys don't have staying power because they just aren't good enough.
34:13 --> 34:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Tyrants?
34:15 --> 34:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Love Tyrants, super nice, great, very good to us.
34:20 --> 34:40 [SPEAKER_00]: mid-chander aged out like calcigre retired like all all these guys who had the long sort of staying power jessie wicker gino like all had flaws to keep them off the roster jpe no yeah the mariners went out of their way to extend them there's a reason for it and that contracts worked out really well
34:40 --> 34:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Most likely, JP will walk in for agency next year.
34:44 --> 34:54 [SPEAKER_00]: If Colt Emerson shows them what they want this year, say it doesn't get hurt, he looks comfortable at third base, he adjusts while the big league pitching, then the Mariners would be okay laying JP walk.
34:54 --> 35:02 [SPEAKER_00]: If Colt for some reason has a really tough year and there are questions, then maybe the Mariners consider bringing JP Crawford back.
35:03 --> 35:05 [SPEAKER_00]: There's a chance, so we'll see.
35:05 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_00]: But this year, the JP's the starting short stop, he's not getting replaced, as long as he's healthy.
35:11 --> 35:21 [SPEAKER_00]: There we have a question on YouTube from a Q-Brinton and the question is, do you think we're going to see a regression and Brennan Donovan now that he's at T-Mobile Park or does that not matter?
35:22 --> 35:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I hate thinking about this question because every player they've acquired seemed to fit the mold of how you can beat the T-Mobile Park factors, the marine liar, so to speak.
35:36 --> 35:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I think Brendan Donovan is going to be a very good player.
35:39 --> 35:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be an impact player.
35:40 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think he's going to very positively affect this team.
35:44 --> 35:50 [SPEAKER_01]: The only thing that you worry about is despite his profile, checking out that he does not strike out.
35:51 --> 35:52 [SPEAKER_01]: He's a bat-to-ball guy.
35:52 --> 35:53 [SPEAKER_01]: He relies on contact.
35:55 --> 35:58 [SPEAKER_01]: What happens if eight games into the year,
35:59 --> 36:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He's hit a few line drives that hang up in Timo will park, and they get caught, and he starts to get in his head about his approach, and then he wants to mess around with things, that is the type of way that a player could get sidetracked and get off to a tough start in Seattle, or have a tough year in Seattle.
36:18 --> 36:22 [SPEAKER_01]: We've seen it a bunch of times with Polo, with Garver, with Winger.
36:23 --> 36:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I am in a hedge my bet on now, because I think he is that good a player.
36:27 --> 36:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I think he's gonna make that big of a difference.
36:30 --> 36:31 [SPEAKER_01]: and his profile checks out.
36:32 --> 36:39 [SPEAKER_01]: But you do always just wonder in the back of your head with seeing this so many times in this ballpark with established players.
36:39 --> 36:44 [SPEAKER_01]: What happens to that mental psyche if the first 10 games in this ballpark do not go well?
36:45 --> 36:51 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think his WRC plus is going to regret because that adjusts space on the park he plays in.
36:52 --> 36:52 [SPEAKER_00]: That'll help.
36:53 --> 36:55 [SPEAKER_00]: But his raw numbers, I do think, will be lower.
36:55 --> 36:59 [SPEAKER_00]: T-Mobile Park for the kind of player he is is the worst kind of fit.
37:00 --> 37:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Brennan Donovan makes his living on singles and doubles for the most part.
37:04 --> 37:05 [SPEAKER_00]: He'll mix a couple of triples in.
37:06 --> 37:08 [SPEAKER_00]: He'll hit 10 home runs a year.
37:08 --> 37:10 [SPEAKER_00]: But for the most part, it's singles and doubles.
37:11 --> 37:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Where does team mobile rank among all ball parks and park factor against those types of hits?
37:16 --> 37:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Singles, it is the worst ball park to hit singles in.
37:20 --> 37:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Worst ever, second doubles, third worst, triples worse.
37:27 --> 37:30 [SPEAKER_00]: For guys who want to keep the ball in the ballpark, it's a terrible place to hit.
37:31 --> 37:31 [SPEAKER_00]: It's awful.
37:32 --> 37:33 [SPEAKER_01]: But it hasn't worked for power guys.
37:34 --> 37:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Ta-ah, wasn't great.
37:35 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Geno in year two wasn't great.
37:37 --> 37:40 [SPEAKER_01]: You know Garver and Polo had troubles in year one and then for Garver year two.
37:41 --> 37:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Because what Team Old Park is also the worst at is that hit or strike out there the most.
37:47 --> 37:48 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not a good hit or it's park.
37:48 --> 37:49 [SPEAKER_00]: What do you want us to say?
37:49 --> 37:51 [SPEAKER_00]: It is not.
37:51 --> 37:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Donovan's walks are gonna help him, but yeah, I mean his his production on bad at balls will go down It will go down.
37:59 --> 38:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I guarantee that and he's just gonna have to toughen up and get through it I don't know how else to describe it.
38:05 --> 38:14 [SPEAKER_00]: You know what works Josh Nailer not giving a flying fuck That worked great this part's easy to hit in
38:16 --> 38:17 [SPEAKER_00]: He just doesn't care.
38:17 --> 38:20 [SPEAKER_00]: And we haven't even seen a full season of Josh Newler in the park.
38:20 --> 38:25 [SPEAKER_00]: While maybe Josh Newler's production dips this year in a full year.
38:25 --> 38:27 [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't look as good as it did in the last year.
38:27 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't look as good as it was in his final year in Cleveland.
38:32 --> 38:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
38:33 --> 38:33 [SPEAKER_00]: It might not.
38:34 --> 38:36 [SPEAKER_01]: So sure, Donovan's numbers could dip.
38:36 --> 38:40 [SPEAKER_01]: But, and yes, it does not favor the ballpark that being.
38:41 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_01]: It does not favor singles and doubles.
38:43 --> 38:43 [SPEAKER_01]: But,
38:44 --> 38:49 [SPEAKER_01]: There is always a why to every player that comes into Seattle, and you're going to have these questions about.
38:50 --> 38:57 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think there is enough in Donovan's game that can offset a lot of that, with again, the approach, the lack of strikeouts, the walks, that'll help.
38:58 --> 39:00 [SPEAKER_01]: But what was batting average below, probably?
39:01 --> 39:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Next question comes from C Wolf on Instagram, and the question is, 2001 Mariners versus 2025 Mariners, who wins in a best of seven and why?
39:14 --> 39:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I took the 25 mariners because of the pitching really and the bullpen just with like the stuff of brash and moonios and guys like that that's like Kazahiro Sasaki wasn't that here's what might matter what era are we playing in but is it still the same talent playing in a different era
39:35 --> 39:42 [SPEAKER_00]: It is, but the 2001 Mariners were a great offense and a great pitching staff.
39:42 --> 39:48 [SPEAKER_00]: The 2025 Mariners were a good offense and an above average pitching staff.
39:48 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I just think Logan Gilbert pitching to the majority of hitters in 2001, or Brian Wu pitching to the majority of hitters in 2001 would have been very, very, very tough.
39:58 --> 40:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Now, a talent conversation is very real.
40:00 --> 40:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Like the players now are better than the players back then.
40:03 --> 40:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Like that's a fact, science has allowed us to perfect a lot of aspects of the game.
40:10 --> 40:18 [SPEAKER_00]: But again, the 2001 Mariners were great at everything.
40:18 --> 40:42 [SPEAKER_01]: while the Mariners have a more talented rotation and bullpen that when you look at the offense while the O1 Mariners were better O1 Mariners had two top five to seven MVP candidates twenty five Mariners had two top five to seven MVP candidates O1 Mariners had Brett Boone and each hero twenty five Mariners at Calen Julio I don't know say there's something there
40:43 --> 40:47 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the 2001 team is too deep.
40:47 --> 40:49 [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about talent, right?
40:49 --> 40:53 [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about best case scenario, but what about 2025, Logan Gilbert?
40:54 --> 40:56 [SPEAKER_00]: What about 2025, George Kirby?
40:56 --> 40:57 [SPEAKER_00]: What about 2025, Bryce Miller?
40:58 --> 41:00 [SPEAKER_00]: We're not picking the best years of these players.
41:00 --> 41:03 [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about the 2025 version of them.
41:03 --> 41:10 [SPEAKER_00]: And that 2025 version, unfortunately, landed the Mariners rotation smack in the middle of baseball in terms of production.
41:11 --> 41:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so we're split on this.
41:13 --> 41:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I say 25, you say I won.
41:15 --> 41:18 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's 2001 Mariners in five games.
41:19 --> 41:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Nah, I'm gonna take the 25 Mariners in seven.
41:23 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_00]: The 2001 Mariners offense, with all respect to the guys on this past year's team, would light up the pitching staff.
41:31 --> 41:37 [SPEAKER_00]: They might struggle with Munoz, they might struggle with brash, they might struggle with Wu, but they're playing a seven game series.
41:38 --> 41:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:40 --> 41:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Now the question is, do they have to clone Dan Wilson?
41:47 --> 41:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Because Dan Wilson's on the field twice.
41:53 --> 41:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm now thinking about the managerial side of this.
41:59 --> 41:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:59 --> 41:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
41:59 --> 42:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Lupinella versus Dan.
42:03 --> 42:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, second thoughts.
42:05 --> 42:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm going to stick to my guns and say 25.
42:08 --> 42:11 [SPEAKER_00]: I would agree with you if you said 25 is more talented.
42:11 --> 42:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know if they'd win.
42:13 --> 42:19 [SPEAKER_00]: This 2001 Mariners team, like, would very casually beat teams like 10 to 3.
42:20 --> 42:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Just different area though.
42:22 --> 42:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well.
42:24 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll need to boot up and we'll be to show next off season or next season when there's not games being played and maybe put it to the test.
42:32 --> 42:36 [SPEAKER_01]: That'd be a great podcast episode to react to if there's no games.
42:37 --> 42:38 [SPEAKER_01]: OK, no, that'd be good.
42:38 --> 42:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's pocket that one.
42:40 --> 42:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Final question comes from high-res on Instagram.
42:45 --> 42:49 [SPEAKER_00]: And the question is, when will we know that the Mariners are a world series contender this season?
42:51 --> 42:54 [SPEAKER_01]: When will the Mariners, when will we know the Mariners, will be a world series contender?
42:55 --> 43:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I would say you usually have an idea by about Memorial Day, quarter the way through the season, third of the way through the season.
43:02 --> 43:06 [SPEAKER_01]: That's when you start to be able to really judge who a lot of the teams in the league are.
43:07 --> 43:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it happens later than that.
43:09 --> 43:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think any of us thought, a quarter of the way through 2025, the Mariners World Series contenders.
43:14 --> 43:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it took it much longer than that.
43:16 --> 43:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Took not just post deadline, but seeing them play a little bit post deadline when they got hot.
43:21 --> 43:24 [SPEAKER_01]: But the earliest you could know, yeah, I'd say about that.
43:24 --> 43:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Memorial Day, you'll have a pretty good barometer judge on August 3rd, 301 PM.
43:33 --> 43:34 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, so post deadline.
43:35 --> 43:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
43:36 --> 43:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Once we see what the complete roster looks like and where they sit in the standings at that time, I think we'll know.
43:44 --> 43:47 [SPEAKER_00]: To be fair though, you really don't know until it starts.
43:48 --> 43:56 [SPEAKER_00]: If you checked in with us at the Marine Lair podcast on, oh, I don't know, September 4th, September 3rd.
43:58 --> 44:03 [SPEAKER_00]: And you said, guys, this Mariners team will go to game seven of the ALCS, who would have been like,
44:05 --> 44:10 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're funny, I mean, that was at a time where we were boycotting games.
44:11 --> 44:15 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, we were in this change, yeah, we were not watching.
44:15 --> 44:18 [SPEAKER_00]: They even with the new additions, they did not look like a world series team.
44:18 --> 44:24 [SPEAKER_00]: They looked like a really good team for one-home stand, and then they looked like an uncompetitive mess on the road.
44:26 --> 44:28 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like that's not a division winner, that's not a playoff team.
44:29 --> 44:32 [SPEAKER_01]: The earliest though, you can now is probably around Memorial Day.
44:33 --> 44:33 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was getting at.
44:34 --> 44:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
44:34 --> 44:36 [SPEAKER_00]: They can look very good, really, in the season.
44:36 --> 44:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I remind you of 2018 Mariners, while they looked pretty good on Memorial Day.
44:41 --> 44:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they were certainly in a good spot after that.
44:43 --> 44:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
44:44 --> 44:52 [SPEAKER_00]: They were 24 games up, 24 games above 500, 10 plus game lead on a playoff spot.
44:52 --> 44:57 [SPEAKER_00]: certainly post trade deadline, everybody was sitting pretty and and really at the trade deadline they were really aggressive.
44:57 --> 44:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure they were.
44:58 --> 45:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Which is why actually kind of I would like to wait for the trade deadline because we can't have the mariners like going into the deadline with a clear need for a higher leverage reliever.
45:09 --> 45:15 [SPEAKER_00]: They don't do anything and then they're just like, oh yeah, we should we trust our guys and it's like trying to win the world series.
45:16 --> 45:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'd like I'd like to see the the final push for that.
45:20 --> 45:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
45:20 --> 45:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Make me feel better.
45:23 --> 45:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Good set of questions, as always, you guys always bring it.

45:38 --> 45:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, the next time we release a podcast, we will be one day when we're at spring training.
45:43 --> 45:44 [SPEAKER_01]: We will be in Pioria.
45:44 --> 45:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to record it a little bit early, so we'll probably do it on, we'll probably record it on Saturday instead of Sunday because we'll be traveling on Sunday.
45:52 --> 45:56 [SPEAKER_01]: But at the time that's out, we'll be in Pioria and after that.
45:56 --> 46:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh a bunch of stuff to update, not just update you guys on, but bunch of stuff to fill you guys in on, bunch of stuff to, you know, take it when Wednesday and Friday podcasts will be in Pioria.
