01:13 --> 01:16 [SPEAKER_00]: What some great weather down here in pure it is phenomenal.
01:17 --> 01:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Lyle that we're set up.
01:18 --> 01:19 [SPEAKER_00]: We found a little bit of patch of shade.
01:19 --> 01:20 [SPEAKER_00]: We've been out in the sun a lot today.
01:20 --> 01:21 [SPEAKER_00]: It's been a little toasty.
01:22 --> 01:30 [SPEAKER_00]: We're sitting here in the pure sports complex taping this episode live and this is everything spring training is cooked up to be.
01:30 --> 01:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm not leaving.
01:31 --> 01:32 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're not.
01:32 --> 01:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Should we just leave you here?
01:33 --> 01:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
01:34 --> 01:37 [SPEAKER_00]: And you checked out a prices for a condo down here.
01:37 --> 01:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what kind of goal we're going to reach.
01:39 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_01]: But I think I've told everybody I've seen that mentions the weather and how nice it is down here that I'm just going to be a snowboard.
01:45 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know when.
01:46 --> 01:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the exact date, but I'm going to be a snowboard one day as two people who spend time in Arizona at school and loved every second of it.
01:54 --> 01:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Seattle's great.
01:55 --> 02:03 [SPEAKER_01]: It'll always be home, but you know what, man, in the non baseball months from October through March, I'm more than okay, just stay in here and make it home here.
02:03 --> 02:04 [SPEAKER_00]: It is as nice.
02:05 --> 02:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's ever, I've ever experienced spring training this week.
02:09 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_00]: We were popping open the weather app and taking a look at the weather this week.
02:12 --> 02:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Normally, we'll get a couple of cloudy days, perhaps a rainy day here at spring training.
02:17 --> 02:19 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's not normally the spring training vibe.
02:19 --> 02:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I think
02:20 --> 02:22 [SPEAKER_00]: leave a little bit earlier during those rainy days.
02:22 --> 02:23 [SPEAKER_00]: The games aren't as fun.
02:23 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_00]: There's not as many fans out.
02:25 --> 02:26 [SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, we're looking at this week.
02:26 --> 02:30 [SPEAKER_00]: These wispy clouds in the air, I think, are the only things covering the sun this entire week.
02:31 --> 02:32 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's made this experience.
02:32 --> 02:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I think really, that much better.
02:35 --> 02:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's in a good mood.
02:36 --> 02:37 [SPEAKER_00]: The expectations are high.
02:38 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_00]: The weather is great.
02:39 --> 02:40 [SPEAKER_00]: The food has been great.
02:40 --> 02:41 [SPEAKER_00]: The people have been great.
02:42 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_00]: Fans have been great.
02:44 --> 02:47 [SPEAKER_00]: This is just a, you know, this is just a sales pitch to come out to spring training.
02:47 --> 02:49 [SPEAKER_01]: It's amazing.
02:49 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_01]: is everybody not just what entirely locked in, but in a great mood doing so.
02:53 --> 02:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I think the answer is yes.
02:55 --> 02:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I think so.
02:57 --> 02:58 [SPEAKER_01]: It have to be.
02:58 --> 02:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone, again, everyone we've talked to you.
02:59 --> 03:02 [SPEAKER_00]: All the players have been in a great mood.
03:03 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I do think partially that reflects just the kind of character they have in this clubhouse.
03:07 --> 03:16 [SPEAKER_00]: the Brendan Donovan's, the cows, the Julio's, the entire starting rotation is such an easy, talkable group of guys, relatable group of guys to a lot of people.
03:17 --> 03:20 [SPEAKER_00]: So I think that, I mean, just sort of accumulates into this perfect storm.
03:20 --> 03:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
03:21 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_01]: And every personality is different, right?
03:23 --> 03:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, obviously you have their guys, you have the guys on the team who are just stoic.
03:28 --> 03:33 [SPEAKER_01]: and locked in in their own right, like Josh Nailer, who takes everything very, very seriously, just who he is.
03:33 --> 03:42 [SPEAKER_01]: And then you have the Bryce Miller's little world who obviously like Bryce is an incredibly hard worker and when it's hit, when it's time for him to lock in, he locks in and he put on some positive weight this winter too.
03:42 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_01]: You can tell.
03:44 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_01]: But then on the days where he doesn't have as much to do like today here on Tuesday, he's doing the typical Bryce Miller thing where he's got his glove on top of his hat and he's spitting the football up to himself and Bryce has a really heavy workload.
03:56 --> 04:04 [SPEAKER_01]: That, like, you can tell when Bryce has a lot of work to do on a certain day and when he doesn't, because on the day's, he has lighter days, it's like, you know what?
04:04 --> 04:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I can be as a laidback as possible.
04:06 --> 04:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Not to totally speak for Bryce Malibu.
04:08 --> 04:09 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like, yeah, it's like 11.45.
04:09 --> 04:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Bryce clearly has like a 130-t time, and he's just killing time until then.
04:13 --> 04:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
04:13 --> 04:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, don't get us wrong on the day's price needs to lock in when he's starting when he has his bullpens.
04:18 --> 04:23 [SPEAKER_01]: He's very locked in, but on the day's where he doesn't have to be, yeah, do what everybody else does.
04:23 --> 04:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Enjoy the Arizona weather.
04:24 --> 04:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Get your work in and then kick back and relax.
04:26 --> 04:27 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we've been doing the same thing, too.
04:27 --> 04:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, once day one of spring training for the last two spring training for us had been almost as exactly the same.
04:34 --> 04:38 [SPEAKER_00]: It has been a road game that the facility essentially clears out by like new.
04:39 --> 04:42 [SPEAKER_00]: So we get here at 745 8 in the morning.
04:42 --> 04:48 [SPEAKER_00]: everyone's gone by noon, no players to talk to you, no one to interview, scattered coaches, but nothing really for us to do.
04:49 --> 04:49 [SPEAKER_00]: What do we do?
04:49 --> 04:53 [SPEAKER_00]: So yesterday we went back to Tempe, which by the way, if you haven't been to Tempe recently,
04:55 --> 05:00 [SPEAKER_00]: I think that place is, I mean, I can't really believe we went to school there.
05:00 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_00]: The amount it is blossomed since we went to school there is truly incredible walk around the yesterday.
05:05 --> 05:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, it's just like a, if you, if you built like a 18 to 22-year-olds dream land and plopped it on a piece of sunny desert land, that would be it.
05:17 --> 05:18 [SPEAKER_01]: that is literally what we did.
05:19 --> 05:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Also, going to school is a loose term.
05:21 --> 05:23 [SPEAKER_01]: We attended Arizona State University.
05:23 --> 05:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I went to school for you, it was a loose term.
05:25 --> 05:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I graduated.
05:26 --> 05:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like a three-warning college, but I didn't have to work that hard to do so.
05:30 --> 05:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I worked hard at the things I cared about, like doing sports media stuff, like wanting to do podcasting, like wanting to do content.
05:35 --> 05:37 [SPEAKER_01]: That's why we're sitting here doing all this, and it's been a blast.
05:37 --> 05:40 [SPEAKER_01]: By the way, if you're not watching on YouTube this week,
05:40 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Go watch on YouTube.
05:41 --> 05:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we are sitting here.
05:43 --> 05:45 [SPEAKER_01]: You got the backfields behind us in Arizona.
05:45 --> 05:50 [SPEAKER_01]: You've got the sun out, obviously, like at the facility, what a cool setup.
05:50 --> 05:56 [SPEAKER_01]: If you've got a chance to watch on YouTube and you're not driving and you're watching at home, do it, because the setup is amazing.
05:56 --> 06:00 [SPEAKER_00]: And just to like sort of paint the picture a little bit of how the facility looks after all the fans leave.
06:00 --> 06:06 [SPEAKER_00]: So right now as we're taping Tuesday's game is in, I think the eighth inning right now we went and walked around a couple of times in there.
06:07 --> 06:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Then came back here to the facility to do social clip to tape this episode.
06:11 --> 06:15 [SPEAKER_00]: The guys work really hard from the meeting.
06:15 --> 06:18 [SPEAKER_00]: The clubhouse meeting starts at what 815 manager talks it.
06:18 --> 06:36 [SPEAKER_00]: eight to the media, clubhouse meetings at eight, 15, then the meeting start and then the workout start and then it's batting practice and then it's a fielding for the infielders, if you're watching on YouTube, I'm pointing over to field one, then the outfielders go on field two and they might take some flyballs over here.
06:37 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_00]: And they'll do that for about noon and some of the guys will either go play in the games or they'll go home.
06:42 --> 06:42 [SPEAKER_00]: They'll go golf.
06:42 --> 06:45 [SPEAKER_00]: They'll go take a nap if they want to.
06:45 --> 06:46 [SPEAKER_00]: They have sort of all the freedom in the world.
06:46 --> 06:51 [SPEAKER_00]: So that leaves the facility at a time like this recording a little bit past four o'clock.
06:51 --> 06:52 [SPEAKER_00]: It's really chill.
06:52 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_00]: We got Mariners families hanging out on the patio.
06:54 --> 06:58 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a very comfortable patio area right next to the kitchen so they have food and they have snacks.
06:59 --> 07:02 [SPEAKER_00]: And the rest of it is just kind of quiet.
07:02 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, not even
07:05 --> 07:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we got to sit down with Gabe Spiret today, who we love, and that's a preview, one of what should be many interviews that we're going to have coming up from in-person down in Piora this week, and Gabe was awesome.
07:16 --> 07:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He's fired up to pitch with the WVC.
07:18 --> 07:21 [SPEAKER_01]: You'll hear that interview in the next week or so, week or two.
07:21 --> 07:26 [SPEAKER_01]: But we wrapped up that interview at roughly 1230 and Gabe said, what do I have to do the rest of the day?
07:27 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not pitching today.
07:28 --> 07:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not in the game.
07:29 --> 07:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go hang out with my family.
07:30 --> 07:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I guess he's got the rest of the day to do so.
07:32 --> 07:32 [SPEAKER_01]: And he should.
07:32 --> 07:35 [SPEAKER_00]: And he sounded like he was having a great time.
07:35 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_00]: He loves being a mariner.
07:37 --> 07:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you'll hear it in this interview that.
07:40 --> 07:52 [SPEAKER_01]: though coming out Wednesday, March 4th, we are going to put it out roughly two days before the start of the WBC because we thought for somebody that's going to be pitching in the tournament and it's fired up to be doing so, let's put it out right before it starts.
07:52 --> 07:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
07:53 --> 07:59 [SPEAKER_00]: So, Mr. USA Lefty, Gabe Sawyer will be next Wednesday's podcast by have that schedule right.
08:00 --> 08:02 [SPEAKER_00]: And then open have some more good interviews for you.
08:02 --> 08:09 [SPEAKER_00]: We've been, we've been feeling it out just to give like a little bit of background on what it's like trying to get players
08:09 --> 08:14 [SPEAKER_00]: We've been soliciting and trying to get some guys to agree to sit down with us, but it's not easy.
08:14 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Things pop up for these guys.
08:16 --> 08:21 [SPEAKER_00]: They are as we say, like just to sort of counter contradict what we just said before.
08:22 --> 08:34 [SPEAKER_00]: The guys have, you know, they have their workouts and such, but for the most part, especially the pitchers, they do have a lot of free time, but that doesn't mean things can't pop up on them.
08:34 --> 08:35 [SPEAKER_01]: And let's progress.
08:35 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
08:36 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_00]: We love Gabe.
08:37 --> 08:37 [SPEAKER_01]: This is not his fault.
08:37 --> 08:39 [SPEAKER_00]: He had no control over this.
08:39 --> 08:41 [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't control this part of his schedule.
08:41 --> 08:42 [SPEAKER_00]: So this is not a reflection of him.
08:42 --> 08:46 [SPEAKER_00]: But we had agreed to tape essentially in this spot at eight 30 this morning.
08:46 --> 08:50 [SPEAKER_00]: So like on I show up at 745 to set up all of our gear.
08:50 --> 08:57 [SPEAKER_00]: We're out here in the backfields, by the way, because, you know, Brock and Salt get a priority over there on the patio next to the facility.
08:58 --> 08:59 [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll be network was also here today.
08:59 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, all right, it's going to be a little chaotic over there.
09:01 --> 09:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's set up back here.
09:02 --> 09:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So we get to the facility and we're all set up 830, send a send gave a DM is there.
09:08 --> 09:08 [SPEAKER_00]: All right.
09:08 --> 09:09 [SPEAKER_00]: We're ready.
09:09 --> 09:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever you are, 845.
09:11 --> 09:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, all right.
09:12 --> 09:13 [SPEAKER_00]: I'll go wander back to the facility.
09:13 --> 09:14 [SPEAKER_00]: See where he is.
09:14 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of scope out.
09:15 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Look inside.
09:16 --> 09:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Look around the hallways.
09:16 --> 09:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Nor to be found.
09:17 --> 09:20 [SPEAKER_00]: 9 9 15 9 30.
09:20 --> 09:24 [SPEAKER_00]: No message from Gabe 9 45 10 o'clock.
09:24 --> 09:25 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like,
09:25 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure this is happening this morning.
09:28 --> 09:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Eventually we do tape with Gave.
09:30 --> 09:35 [SPEAKER_00]: After he's done working, he had two or three meetings to get to after the clubhouse meeting, which already went long.
09:36 --> 09:39 [SPEAKER_00]: So, actually, we got a game at about 12.45.
09:39 --> 09:41 [SPEAKER_00]: So things do pop up on these guys.
09:42 --> 09:47 [SPEAKER_00]: And while we think we have some interviews lined up for this week, we'll see if they happen on time.
09:48 --> 09:48 [SPEAKER_00]: I hope so.
09:48 --> 09:49 [SPEAKER_00]: But you know what?
09:49 --> 09:50 [SPEAKER_00]: We're down here to work.
09:50 --> 09:51 [SPEAKER_00]: We're down here to interview.
09:51 --> 09:52 [SPEAKER_00]: We're down here to do content.
09:52 --> 09:55 [SPEAKER_00]: So if we have to wait around, we'll do exactly that.
09:55 --> 09:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Here we are sitting.
09:56 --> 09:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone else has gone.
09:57 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_00]: All the media members are gone.
09:58 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Separate.
09:59 --> 10:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Spring training can be a lot of waiting.
10:01 --> 10:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, it's in a good way.
10:03 --> 10:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Because what do you do when you're waiting around?
10:06 --> 10:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Gary Hill, and you hang out with Rick Riz, and you hang out with, I mean, I hang out with Brock and talk all the time, and hang out with them when they're off the air, or Shannon, or anybody else that might be at the facility, and you just talk baseball with them, or people that come through, or you get to small talk with some of the players at points, it is so, it's as laid back as everybody's going to be throughout the course of the year.
10:26 --> 10:29 [SPEAKER_01]: So when we're waiting, it's not like we're having some miserable time.
10:29 --> 10:36 [SPEAKER_01]: It's just finding the exact perfect point to get these players on, because not to spoil
10:36 --> 10:40 [SPEAKER_01]: We feel like we've got some pretty cool substantial guests in the hopper for this week.
10:40 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to like jinx it and once we sit down and have them, well, obviously tell you guys all about it.
10:47 --> 10:53 [SPEAKER_01]: But we just got to make sure that there is a time period that works out for these guys where we can sit down, have them hold the mic and do it.
10:53 --> 10:54 [SPEAKER_01]: But we...
10:54 --> 10:56 [SPEAKER_01]: We're feeling pretty good about this spring training.
10:56 --> 10:59 [SPEAKER_01]: We feel like we have the chance to have this be the best spring training.
10:59 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Not just for us, but for you guys that we've had in a long time.
11:02 --> 11:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Because that's why we're doing these interviews, right?
11:04 --> 11:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, do we enjoy doing them?
11:05 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but we want to bring the content to you guys.
11:08 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_01]: We're for the people.
11:09 --> 11:11 [SPEAKER_01]: We want to give you guys some fun interviews with some of the stars of the team.
11:11 --> 11:12 [SPEAKER_01]: So we're working to do it.
11:12 --> 11:16 [SPEAKER_01]: And just to give you one more example about often waiting around for some players.
11:16 --> 11:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Here's another one.
11:17 --> 11:21 [SPEAKER_01]: On this same day, we're waiting for Gabe and the players had a long meeting.
11:21 --> 11:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Gary, we're talking to Gary Hill, who's waiting around for Jose Ferrer, because they're supposed to take an interview with him.
11:28 --> 11:29 [SPEAKER_01]: They were also planning for 830.
11:30 --> 11:31 [SPEAKER_01]: That turned into about 1115.
11:31 --> 11:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
11:32 --> 11:34 [SPEAKER_00]: And Gary's a team employee.
11:34 --> 11:35 [SPEAKER_00]: He gets priority.
11:35 --> 11:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
11:35 --> 11:39 [SPEAKER_00]: He gets to, you know, make demands and usually gets them.
11:39 --> 11:41 [SPEAKER_00]: We're just a couple of shmucks that podcast.
11:41 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_00]: We're a couple of dumbasses with mics.
11:43 --> 11:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
11:44 --> 11:46 [SPEAKER_00]: So it's not just us that have to do this.
11:46 --> 11:47 [SPEAKER_00]: It's the beat riders.
11:47 --> 11:47 [SPEAKER_00]: It's everyone else.
11:48 --> 11:49 [SPEAKER_00]: But we're all down here to work.
11:49 --> 11:51 [SPEAKER_00]: We're all down here to get ready for the baseball season.
11:52 --> 11:55 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think even people like Ryan Davis are having a great time.
11:55 --> 11:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Divished by the way, number one take away a spring cring.
11:58 --> 12:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Divished is in a fantastic mood.
12:00 --> 12:03 [SPEAKER_00]: We walk in, he's smiling, he's talking.
12:03 --> 12:06 [SPEAKER_00]: He's having a great time with someone at the game today.
12:06 --> 12:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Ryan Davis just live in life.
12:08 --> 12:10 [SPEAKER_01]: He's living life, maybe the sunshine brings it out of him.
12:10 --> 12:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, when we're down here, it's bringing training a lot of the time.
12:12 --> 12:14 [SPEAKER_01]: He's usually in a good mood.
12:14 --> 12:17 [SPEAKER_01]: It's early in spring training, suns obviously out.
12:17 --> 12:21 [SPEAKER_01]: He wants to talk, but then you get division to the grind to the 162 game season.
12:21 --> 12:24 [SPEAKER_01]: And it's June, and maybe it's a cloudy day at the park.
12:24 --> 12:27 [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, and then it's time to go coach in Montana.
12:28 --> 12:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, or even when he's doing the full season, you'll get him on a Saturday that's cloudy.
12:32 --> 12:34 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been a long home stand.
12:34 --> 12:34 [SPEAKER_01]: He's like,
12:38 --> 12:39 [SPEAKER_00]: We love Ryan Davis.
12:39 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_00]: It's good to have him here at Spring Training.
12:40 --> 12:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's hear us so loud.
12:42 --> 12:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Takeaways from Spring.
12:44 --> 12:44 [SPEAKER_00]: So far.
12:45 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_01]: We talked about it in the clip we put out on social media, but I honestly think the biggest one is there is not some overarching storyline.
12:53 --> 12:58 [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to talk about Kate Anderson and you want to talk about Ryan's Sloan looking as good as they've looked, that's obviously a storyline.
12:59 --> 13:01 [SPEAKER_01]: But if you're looking into big league storylines,
13:01 --> 13:06 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's a big overarching one because honestly, I think this is such an established group.
13:06 --> 13:14 [SPEAKER_01]: They know who they are and everybody's so locked in that we're not talking about position battles, we're not talking about having to avenge missing the playoffs.
13:15 --> 13:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just everybody is ready to build off of 2025.
13:17 --> 13:25 [SPEAKER_00]: The mood is run it back except this time make the world series and has you look at how the team stack up in the A.L.
13:26 --> 13:27 [SPEAKER_00]: How can it be anything else?
13:28 --> 13:31 [SPEAKER_00]: You don't have real weaknesses aside from these like little things.
13:31 --> 13:33 [SPEAKER_00]: And these guys understand that.
13:33 --> 13:35 [SPEAKER_00]: The goal is to be as ready for the season as possible.
13:36 --> 13:38 [SPEAKER_00]: So they can hit the ground running in April and they can really make a run at this thing.
13:38 --> 13:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what do you want to call the quote unquote weakness as if there are something?
13:42 --> 13:45 [SPEAKER_01]: One leverage bullpen arm, maybe they're a little short of that.
13:45 --> 13:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe at some point in the year, they'll feel like they need an extra power bat in the lineup right hand at bat.
13:50 --> 13:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Right hand at bat.
13:51 --> 13:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe right field's gonna be a question mark.
13:56 --> 13:59 [SPEAKER_01]: One, almost every team not name the Dodgers faces.
13:59 --> 14:01 [SPEAKER_01]: There's some question mark in the roster at some point.
14:02 --> 14:06 [SPEAKER_01]: And two, if the Mariners are that good again, which they should be, they can go add these things at the deadline.
14:07 --> 14:20 [SPEAKER_00]: And I also think we have this wonderful combination of perception outside of the Mariners and perception inside of the Mariners, the sort of unification of ideals heading into this season.
14:21 --> 14:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Just go back to one year ago.
14:22 --> 14:25 [SPEAKER_00]: What was the, what was the mood from the fan base one year ago?
14:25 --> 14:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this is fucking unacceptable.
14:27 --> 14:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, them, the fan base was miserable.
14:31 --> 14:33 [SPEAKER_01]: We walked into spring training last year.
14:33 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, excited to be at spring training, but absolutely furious from how the offseason went.
14:38 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
14:39 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_01]: out the story this year.
14:40 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not.
14:41 --> 14:45 [SPEAKER_00]: And it's, I still think this is different than entering 2023 with them at the ALTS.
14:46 --> 14:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I think this is different than 2024.
14:47 --> 14:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, all right, we kind of got unlucky in 2023.
14:51 --> 14:53 [SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be our year in each of those two off seasons.
14:54 --> 14:59 [SPEAKER_00]: They still did add pieces to attempt to get to the point where they finished last year at.
14:59 --> 15:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I also just think the veteran nature of this team is even more established now than it has ever been.
15:05 --> 15:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Just listen to the story of Mitch Garver coming into camp.
15:09 --> 15:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Who's the reason that Mitch Garver is a Seattle mayor in right now?
15:13 --> 15:14 [SPEAKER_01]: The captain.
15:14 --> 15:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I know they call JP the captain.
15:16 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_01]: If you're going to ask me like Calza captain.
15:19 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Calza captain.
15:19 --> 15:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Calza captain.
15:20 --> 15:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Cal Rowley was the one that convinced the Mariners to say, hey, or Cal Rowley said to the Mariners, hey, let's call Mitch Garver.
15:27 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get him back.
15:28 --> 15:29 [SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't signed anywhere.
15:29 --> 15:31 [SPEAKER_01]: People like him here.
15:31 --> 15:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He knows the pitching staff.
15:32 --> 15:34 [SPEAKER_01]: You know we can hit
15:34 --> 15:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get him back and Mitch Garver's in camp.
15:36 --> 15:41 [SPEAKER_00]: You have every sort of quote unquote leader cliche as you would want on this team.
15:41 --> 15:45 [SPEAKER_00]: You have the lead by example guys like cow.
15:45 --> 15:47 [SPEAKER_00]: You have overarching star power in Julio.
15:48 --> 15:52 [SPEAKER_00]: You have some of the more other soft spoken guys like Randy Rosarina.
15:52 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_00]: You have Josh Nailer.
15:53 --> 15:55 [SPEAKER_00]: You just brought in Brendan Donovan.
15:55 --> 15:57 [SPEAKER_00]: You look all over the place.
15:57 --> 16:02 [SPEAKER_00]: adding like a coal yelling or a cold Emerson to this group, they can just go right to the back.
16:02 --> 16:04 [SPEAKER_00]: They don't have to be the guys.
16:04 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_00]: They don't have to lead.
16:05 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_00]: They don't have to do any of that sort of stuff.
16:07 --> 16:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Unlike Julio, when he broke onto the scene in 2022.
16:11 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, I was even going to say these guys don't have to be Jared Kelnek when they come out.
16:16 --> 16:17 [SPEAKER_01]: They can just ease right in.
16:18 --> 16:23 [SPEAKER_01]: They are not relying on cold medicine to go put up a five-war season in his rookie year and carry the team.
16:23 --> 16:27 [SPEAKER_01]: There was a little bit of that expectation on Jared back when he debuted in 2021.
16:27 --> 16:36 [SPEAKER_01]: That's not the case when you're cold medicine and you're potentially hitting seven eight or nine and you've got Donovan Cow, Julio, Nailer, Randy, all ahead of you.
16:37 --> 16:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean that line ups a force then and on top of that.
16:42 --> 16:46 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to save as much as we can for Gabe's actual and our view and it comes out next week.
16:47 --> 16:58 [SPEAKER_00]: But I think his perspective on this organization and where they've gotten to is like, it reflects what we kind of feel like is here at Spring Training right now.
16:59 --> 17:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Gabe loves being a mariner.
17:00 --> 17:03 [SPEAKER_00]: He really, really loves being a mariner.
17:03 --> 17:14 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think a lot of these factors of this concoction of players they have right now and how it's being run is great for the future of this team.
17:14 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_00]: It's great for the current and future of this team in terms of the leadership in terms of the talent in terms of the investment.
17:21 --> 17:24 [SPEAKER_00]: It has not been many spring trainings we can sit here and say that.
17:24 --> 17:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and it trickles down all throughout the organization.
17:27 --> 17:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you an example, but I think it ties in well.
17:30 --> 17:36 [SPEAKER_01]: So we got to talk to Lucas Kelly here on Tuesday, who we talked about before we got down to spring training, but is one of our guys already.
17:37 --> 17:38 [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to be a sun devil and a mariner.
17:38 --> 17:39 [SPEAKER_01]: You're a marine layer pod guy.
17:40 --> 17:44 [SPEAKER_01]: First sun devil mariner in the marine layer pod era fired up was awesome to meet him today.
17:45 --> 17:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And we were talking with him for a while and he's sitting there talking about how
17:49 --> 17:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I love being in this organization, and you can just see why it is so, like, competitive and well-run, top-to-bottom, what they do with the pitchers, he's like, it's unbelievable.
18:00 --> 18:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I've been here just a few months, and I'm blown away.
18:02 --> 18:08 [SPEAKER_01]: He even said, like, talking to some other people, and like, players he knows that are in other organizations.
18:08 --> 18:12 [SPEAKER_01]: He really is already starting to realize it's just a little different in Seattle.
18:12 --> 18:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Take the lead by example of Cal Rally.
18:16 --> 18:18 [SPEAKER_00]: We tweeted this clip out on Monday.
18:19 --> 18:22 [SPEAKER_00]: One of the first things we saw in the first few hours of us being here at Spring Training.
18:23 --> 18:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Cal Rally and Luke Stevenson were doing some work together.
18:26 --> 18:30 [SPEAKER_00]: on the other side of the camera so you won't be able to see it if you're watching on YouTube.
18:30 --> 18:39 [SPEAKER_00]: But right behind the camera where we at Lawnyer staring right now are sort of the flat turf areas where they do catch your work, they throw bullpins there as well.
18:39 --> 18:41 [SPEAKER_00]: It's the thing with the low rail for the fans.
18:41 --> 18:43 [SPEAKER_00]: You could just walk right up to it and watch.
18:43 --> 18:48 [SPEAKER_00]: They were doing framing work and call is sitting there and teaching Luke Stevenson.
18:49 --> 19:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Like what he likes to do when framing and they're just going rep over rep over rep over rep and that's like I'm I'm just thinking back to past mariners teams The kind of leadership that your franchise the guy you've invested your dollars in two shows It shows sort of the health of where this team is.
19:10 --> 19:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean look at the two guys the mariners have invested the most money in them and the most resources in cow and Julio
19:17 --> 19:29 [SPEAKER_01]: We can get to Julio Namedic because there's a story with him this week in regards to some of the leadership that he's already taken on, which is crazy to say, because he's only 25 years old, but he is entering your five in the league, but to stick on Calen Luke Stevenson.
19:30 --> 19:40 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not like they're sitting there doing catcher drills and Cal's just talking to Luke and saying, hey, try it this way or try to tilt your glove a little bit more to your left, et cetera.
19:40 --> 20:06 [SPEAKER_01]: No, if you look at the video we tweeted out, and you should, it's on Twitter, but Cal is in Luke's ear, down on the knees with Luke's Stevenson, just to Luke's left, right with them on every pitch, if you're looking on YouTube, it's like this, like this, like tilt your glove, like this, and Luke's just going through Stevenson, Luke's Stevenson's just going through pitch by pitch by pitch, and he is just working on it with Cal stand and right there the entire time.
20:06 --> 20:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And I talked about it earlier in the week, but there are so many superstars who would not do that.
20:13 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's not fair to throw guys under the bus because we are not in other camps all the time, but just as an example, do you see Juan Soto doing that?
20:21 --> 20:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, do you see Show Hay like actively going and doing that stuff?
20:24 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Not really, Cal does.
20:26 --> 20:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I was sitting here thinking this week, among all of the superstars in Major League Baseball.
20:31 --> 20:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's start listening them off.
20:35 --> 20:41 [SPEAKER_00]: judge, mookie, mookie might be the closest example we have.
20:41 --> 20:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Ronald Akunya, Juan Soto, who's a guy doing as many interviews doing as much as he does with his organization as Cal Rowley?
20:52 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's it's incredible.
20:54 --> 20:57 [SPEAKER_00]: It's he is, it makes you appreciate him so much.
20:57 --> 21:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he knows everybody from
21:01 --> 21:10 [SPEAKER_01]: the coaches to his teammates to the kitchen workers, to the analytics people in the front office to, I mean, everybody in the media.
21:10 --> 21:13 [SPEAKER_01]: When he's got time, he talks to everybody to the fans.
21:13 --> 21:19 [SPEAKER_01]: When Cal's got time for a guy that says busy as he is, he will sign and he will talk and he will take pictures with fans.
21:20 --> 21:22 [SPEAKER_01]: It is amazing.
21:22 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Cal Raleigh, I know we're talking about 15, 20 years down the line.
21:26 --> 21:31 [SPEAKER_01]: his name and his face is going to be all over T-Mobile Park for a long time.
21:31 --> 21:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Do you think Cal sees any of himself in Luke Stevenson?
21:35 --> 21:45 [SPEAKER_01]: possible if you're talking about a catcher that was drafted relatively high and is expected to develop a relationship with a high octane prospect picture that are going to come up through the system together.
21:45 --> 21:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure, cow Logan did it.
21:47 --> 21:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Luke Stevenson and Kate Anderson are going to do that a bit.
21:49 --> 21:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there's a little bit of that there.
21:51 --> 21:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the comparison of those two duets.
21:52 --> 22:02 [SPEAKER_00]: I think are very, very, very, very interesting because this duet, the first one, cow and Logan has worked out as good as it possibly can.
22:02 --> 22:06 [SPEAKER_00]: So how are those two going to make sure it happens again?
22:06 --> 22:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Or how are the Mariners going to make sure that happens again?
22:08 --> 22:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Because while it's nice for Cal to do that, that's not his job.
22:12 --> 22:13 [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have to do that.
22:13 --> 22:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Cal could go about his work and be as good as he could possibly be and let Mariners coaches do that.
22:18 --> 22:23 [SPEAKER_00]: But Cal's almost taking it on himself to make sure a little bit of that passes down, too.
22:23 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Also, if your other big league players across the league and you see some legit prospect that's got a chance to come up and play your position one day,
22:32 --> 22:36 [SPEAKER_01]: They might not say it publicly, but there's probably some players who are thinking of themselves.
22:36 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't want to help this guy.
22:37 --> 22:39 [SPEAKER_01]: He's essentially coming from my job.
22:39 --> 22:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Cal looks at it as he's just going to help the position when he gets up.
22:43 --> 22:44 [SPEAKER_00]: It's actually how to lose.
22:44 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Cal's not going to lose his job, obviously, but Luke Stephenson can just help the position.
22:47 --> 22:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Infielders and outfielders, you can go play another position.
22:50 --> 22:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Colt Emerson is not JP Crawford, probably, at this point, for this season, I don't think he feels threatened by Colt Emerson, because guess what?
22:58 --> 22:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Colt's going to go play third.
22:59 --> 23:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Colt could go play second.
23:01 --> 23:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Colt could DH.
23:02 --> 23:05 [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't necessarily get a bump JP off of short, but there's only one catcher.
23:06 --> 23:10 [SPEAKER_00]: So if Luke Stevenson is good enough to make the big leagues, he's going to be catching.
23:11 --> 23:14 [SPEAKER_00]: But that's not even that's not how cows thinking.
23:14 --> 23:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Now it might just work out great.
23:17 --> 23:25 [SPEAKER_00]: We're by the time Luke's ready, they're ready to start easing cowback from catching, saving his legs a little bit so they can do it.
23:25 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_00]: age as bad as well.
23:26 --> 23:30 [SPEAKER_01]: And let me just clarify, not the cow's not going to catch of course he is.
23:30 --> 23:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he just doesn't have to take on the insane workload that he's taken on throughout the first few years of his career.
23:36 --> 23:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Where feels like he's back there every single game.
23:39 --> 23:53 [SPEAKER_01]: If Luke Stevenson ends up being a good big lead catcher, well maybe you can de-age cow a little bit more where he's still in the lineup and he's still going to be catching, but maybe he can do it a little less often and he can get him off his feet a little bit more to like you said
23:53 --> 23:54 [SPEAKER_00]: What else are we taking away here?
23:55 --> 23:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm, can I get all to the Julio story?
23:56 --> 23:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sure.
23:57 --> 23:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
23:57 --> 23:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes.
23:57 --> 23:58 [SPEAKER_00]: This is a big one.
23:58 --> 24:08 [SPEAKER_01]: So in terms of, again, just the mariners stars taking on leadership, Julio doesn't quite do it in the same way as cow, or you're actively seeing it out in the open all the time.
24:08 --> 24:13 [SPEAKER_01]: But take Cole Young, for example, right, who looks like he's in great shape coming into spring training.
24:13 --> 24:16 [SPEAKER_01]: He is in that best shape of his life category.
24:16 --> 24:17 [SPEAKER_01]: We do this every spring.
24:17 --> 24:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Cole Young is in a little bit of his best shape of his life character.
24:20 --> 24:20 [SPEAKER_00]: That's good to hear.
24:21 --> 24:22 [SPEAKER_00]: That's good to hear for Cole.
24:22 --> 24:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I think Julio had a little bit to do with that.
24:25 --> 24:28 [SPEAKER_01]: You can go read Adam's Jude story in the Seattle Times, who did a great job with it.
24:29 --> 24:43 [SPEAKER_01]: But he talked about in a story recently that after the Mariners were eliminated, last season, Julio talked to Cole Young, who again, is only a couple years younger, but this is Julio, despite being as young as he is, taking on a leadership role in his own right, telling Cole Young,
24:43 --> 24:47 [SPEAKER_01]: look man, you got to come into camp next year and you got to be stronger.
24:47 --> 24:52 [SPEAKER_01]: You got to be ready to take on a full season because we need your bat and we just need you to be productive, frankly.
24:53 --> 24:59 [SPEAKER_01]: And Julio took it upon himself to say, hey man, we need you and you have you have got to make improvements this off.
24:59 --> 25:02 [SPEAKER_00]: And that right there could explain a lot about Cole Young September.
25:02 --> 25:03 [SPEAKER_00]: why you didn't see him.
25:04 --> 25:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he was tired.
25:05 --> 25:09 [SPEAKER_00]: He just didn't have the sort of juice he had early on in the season.
25:09 --> 25:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Who will and who will, who's around all the time and is noticing everything, clocks it and says,
25:15 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_00]: This, if you're going to start every day at Sigmase, this can't happen.
25:18 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
25:18 --> 25:21 [SPEAKER_01]: And Hollanders even talked about that in some interviews.
25:21 --> 25:24 [SPEAKER_01]: He said, look, Cole was awesome through the summer months.
25:24 --> 25:29 [SPEAKER_01]: He had a six week stretch where he was about as good as any second baseman you'll find in the league, which is true.
25:29 --> 25:30 [SPEAKER_01]: We've talked about that.
25:30 --> 25:33 [SPEAKER_01]: What he did from the started July, till the middle of August.
25:33 --> 25:38 [SPEAKER_01]: But they've said then September came around and he ran out of gas and Hollander said to be fair that happens with a lot of prospects.
25:38 --> 25:42 [SPEAKER_01]: You got especially high schoolers sure you go through that long of a season.
25:42 --> 25:49 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not uncommon, but who we also took an upon himself to say, look man, we know your talent and we know you can help this team.
25:49 --> 25:52 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I'm sitting here saying to you, we need you next year.
25:52 --> 25:53 [SPEAKER_01]: So come in stronger.
25:53 --> 26:14 [SPEAKER_00]: and Julio knows this from experience because this dude comes up as a 21 year old off of two seasons where he didn't play a really a full year kind of a kind of 21 but still a minor league season and then he had the covid season but then comes into 2022 in great shape and lights it up and so he like he knows the kind of impact you can have by being
26:14 --> 26:15 [SPEAKER_00]: that in shape later in the season.
26:15 --> 26:28 [SPEAKER_00]: So that's, I mean, that's great to hear for Cole Young, because while and I are big fans of Cole Young, a big fan of the person of Cole Young, we're a big fan of the player of Cole Young, and we hope he's going to have an incredibly successful season for the Mariners, because guess what?
26:28 --> 26:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of other stories this week, they made a pretty big bet on him.
26:31 --> 26:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Also, also noted in that article that a big reason that the Mariners weren't all
26:37 --> 26:44 [SPEAKER_00]: didn't want to proceed forward with talks for Katel Marte, which we have another storyline when you talk about Katel here in a second.
26:45 --> 26:54 [SPEAKER_00]: But a big reason why they didn't want, they didn't want to move forward with the Katel Marte talks because they didn't feel comfortable including Cole Young.
26:54 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's a bet on the Mariners.
26:56 --> 27:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Wanting to see their prospect blossom and they they feel like cool young's a better fit long-term than katelmartag I mean look at katelmant he is one of the best second.
27:05 --> 27:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean he's the best second basement in baseball his offense is through the roof You know the impact player he is right now What's gonna happen in a couple years?
27:12 --> 27:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Katel's defense isn't great is he just gonna be a D.H. or you gonna be paying a premium prospect wise and then I know he's on a friendly contract but still some
27:22 --> 27:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Money that is somewhat significant to a player that may just be a DH, then you have no room to move guys throughout the lineup in DH, Cal, Canever, DH, etc.
27:30 --> 27:34 [SPEAKER_01]: If you've got Catel locked in for years, paired with, we'll keep talking about it.
27:34 --> 27:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Just the things you hear about Catel Marta internally.
27:38 --> 27:42 [SPEAKER_01]: is look, he has had some questions in the clubhouse about the work ethic.
27:42 --> 27:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Was it going to fit here?
27:43 --> 27:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Clearly the Mariners love what Cole Young has the potential to bring and decided this is what we want to roll with.
27:49 --> 27:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to be honest, Lyle.
27:51 --> 27:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to play or who gets an NLCS MVP tattooed on his thigh.
27:55 --> 27:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Come on, dude.
27:58 --> 27:59 [SPEAKER_00]: We got to talk about this.
27:59 --> 28:03 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't, I'm going to preface this by saying I don't want to call him a loser.
28:03 --> 28:05 [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm going to call him a kind of a loser for doing that.
28:06 --> 28:11 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how much this has made its rounds by the time we released this podcast because we did see it on Twitter.
28:11 --> 28:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Somebody noticed that Katel Marté, apparently, apparently, has a tattoo on his leg that says NLCS MVP.
28:23 --> 28:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they didn't even win.
28:26 --> 28:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, the world's series.
28:27 --> 28:33 [SPEAKER_01]: I was an MVP of a semi-finals three years ago and I want that inked on my body for life.
28:33 --> 28:35 [SPEAKER_01]: That is loser talk.
28:35 --> 28:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
28:36 --> 28:40 [SPEAKER_01]: If you're a Seattle mayor and I don't care who you are, Logan Gilbert, Cal Raleigh, cook up whoever you want.
28:41 --> 28:48 [SPEAKER_01]: If you get a tattoo that is crowning you an MVP of one singular playoff round.
28:48 --> 29:07 [SPEAKER_00]: like see a that's like that's like cow getting up if we sit down with him here at spring training and he gets up and and I'm maybe maybe we should just ask him this if if we sit down with him be like cow um hypothetically if you were to get a thigh tattoo of you of 20 25 MVP runner up would you do it?
29:09 --> 29:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Is that his answer better be no better be no because guess what we're going to keep the same energy if any Mariner gets something like that tattooed on their body trust me guys.
29:18 --> 29:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to say it Maybe it looks cool, but that does not matter optics matter to you want a guy coming into your camp That's like well I was the NLCS MVP three.
29:30 --> 29:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel pretty good about it.
29:31 --> 29:34 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like well, how do we focus on winning the world series?
29:34 --> 29:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna be honest, even if you were World Series MVP, that's still kind of a ridiculous thing to get tattooed.
29:40 --> 29:46 [SPEAKER_01]: If you wanna get 2025 World Series Champion tattooed, all right, not everybody gets to win a World Series.
29:46 --> 29:48 [SPEAKER_01]: That's such a massive accomplishment.
29:48 --> 29:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I could buy into that more.
29:51 --> 29:53 [SPEAKER_01]: that, that is so much about you.
29:53 --> 29:56 [SPEAKER_01]: And again with Kittell, it's a semi-finals MVP.
29:56 --> 29:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Come on, dude.
29:58 --> 29:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I just couldn't believe that this week.
30:00 --> 30:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if I'm Corbin Carroll rolling into that clubhouse, I was like, are you, oh, he probably is known about it because these guys see it all the time.
30:05 --> 30:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Right, but like the first time you see it, it's like, are you serious?
30:08 --> 30:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Like he walks into the clubhouse in 2024 spring training, and Corbin Carroll still salty about the world's here's last season's like, what?
30:16 --> 30:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Like there's no way that's real.
30:18 --> 30:18 [SPEAKER_00]: There's no way.
30:19 --> 30:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Because that signals, I'm very happy.
30:22 --> 30:27 [SPEAKER_00]: So happy I want to get it and permanent ink on my body that I want NLCS MVP.
30:27 --> 30:31 [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter that we lost in the semi-finals.
30:31 --> 30:32 [SPEAKER_00]: That is crazy.
30:32 --> 30:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Any merit or listing to this.
30:34 --> 30:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Take note.
30:35 --> 30:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't do it.
30:36 --> 30:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Do not get an NLCS MVP or ALCS MVP tattooed on your body.
30:41 --> 30:42 [SPEAKER_00]: We are Mariners fans.
30:42 --> 30:43 [SPEAKER_00]: We know loser talk.
30:43 --> 30:46 [SPEAKER_00]: We are experts with PhDs in loser talk.
30:46 --> 30:48 [SPEAKER_01]: What do we always say on this podcast?
30:48 --> 30:48 [SPEAKER_01]: We are losers.
30:49 --> 30:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
30:49 --> 30:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't do it.
30:50 --> 30:52 [SPEAKER_01]: That that is loser stuff right there.
30:53 --> 30:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, anything else we're thinking of.
30:55 --> 30:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the game today was great.
30:56 --> 30:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Cal had his first home run of spring.
30:58 --> 31:03 [SPEAKER_00]: He's been playing late into these spring training games because he's got to get ready for the WBC.
31:03 --> 31:05 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're standing there what in the fifth inning.
31:05 --> 31:07 [SPEAKER_00]: He's getting a third at bat, normally in the first week.
31:07 --> 31:09 [SPEAKER_00]: These guys are already out of the lineup at this point.
31:10 --> 31:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Naylor had left.
31:11 --> 31:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I think Randy had left at that point.
31:13 --> 31:14 [SPEAKER_00]: But Cal still in the lineup.
31:14 --> 31:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Still hitting, he did strike out against a minor leagueer.
31:16 --> 31:17 [SPEAKER_00]: But we're gonna go past that.
31:18 --> 31:19 [SPEAKER_00]: That part doesn't matter as much.
31:19 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Are you really taking spring training at bats?
31:21 --> 31:26 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not, well, if I'd note the Homer, then I probably have to note the strike out as well.
31:26 --> 31:27 [SPEAKER_00]: But so that was good.
31:28 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I'll say Colt Emerson, we watched it in that bat in Tuesday's game.
31:32 --> 31:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Colt is batting.
31:34 --> 31:37 [SPEAKER_00]: He gets a slider thrown on the inner half of the plate.
31:37 --> 31:38 [SPEAKER_00]: He's thinking fastball.
31:39 --> 31:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Check swings right over the slider.
31:41 --> 31:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Strike one.
31:42 --> 31:47 [SPEAKER_00]: But then next pitch he gets a fastball and he just puts this beautiful swing on it, just lying driving a right field for a base set.
31:47 --> 31:48 [SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait to watch this dude.
31:48 --> 31:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that one was kind of into right center field and the abat even before that.
31:52 --> 31:55 [SPEAKER_01]: He just takes one the other way and sprains it to left for a base set.
31:55 --> 32:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Two for two, again, the first game of the cactus league season on Friday, he went over to but he flew out to the base of the wall and then scorched the ball to first bite like why to first the cast the onos made the great play on.
32:07 --> 32:12 [SPEAKER_01]: think he got a look at Colt Anderson early in camp and say, look, he may not make the roster out of spring training.
32:12 --> 32:14 [SPEAKER_01]: He does not look over matched.
32:14 --> 32:17 [SPEAKER_00]: No, he really doesn't look over matched.
32:17 --> 32:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, one other thing, dog.
32:18 --> 32:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I need to get your thoughts on this.
32:20 --> 32:24 [SPEAKER_00]: What did you think of Luke Stevenson's PB and J making?
32:25 --> 32:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
32:26 --> 32:36 [SPEAKER_01]: So, another guy we've gotten to talk to for the first through the first few days, Luke Stevenson, who Peter doesn't want to quite admit it, but he has a little bit of Luke Stevenson in factuation.
32:36 --> 32:37 [SPEAKER_00]: He's pretty cool.
32:37 --> 32:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's pretty cool.
32:37 --> 32:39 [SPEAKER_01]: He's got some in factuation.
32:39 --> 32:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Even when Stevenson started to go off in Medesto last year,
32:41 --> 32:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I just noticed like TJ likes to bring him up a lot.
32:44 --> 32:46 [SPEAKER_01]: He's just fascinated by the players, fascinated by who he could be.
32:47 --> 32:48 [SPEAKER_01]: And we got to talk to him.
32:48 --> 32:48 [SPEAKER_01]: He was really awesome.
32:48 --> 32:52 [SPEAKER_01]: He was fun guy to talk to, cool down to early talkative too.
32:52 --> 33:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Like honestly, if we're we're in the business of comparing Cal and Luke, Cal when he was a prospect and even as a big leaguer at the first, not a big talker, not really at all this.
33:02 --> 33:05 [SPEAKER_00]: This version of Cal Rally is within the last couple of years.
33:05 --> 33:07 [SPEAKER_00]: I think really we're just felt more comfortable being himself.
33:07 --> 33:08 [SPEAKER_01]: 20, 23
33:08 --> 33:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, well, yeah, and it starts when he shredded mariners ownership for not spending.
33:15 --> 33:18 [SPEAKER_00]: But Luke Stephenson, man, that dude loves a talk.
33:18 --> 33:20 [SPEAKER_00]: We had a really nice conversation with him on the patio.
33:20 --> 33:21 [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be honest, man.
33:21 --> 33:24 [SPEAKER_00]: He caught me off guard when I was watching him walk around.
33:24 --> 33:32 [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he did look the way he does in a positive way when he was drafted, but I didn't notice until we got down here at spring.
33:32 --> 33:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Body type and then cowl are like,
33:35 --> 33:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Pretty similar.
33:35 --> 33:37 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean Luke Stephenson's looking pretty jack.
33:37 --> 33:41 [SPEAKER_00]: He's he's pretty jacked lower half especially I'm like, well, I was like, oh look it's Luke Stephenson.
33:41 --> 33:42 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like no shit.
33:43 --> 33:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Like he looks like he looks like a catcher I feel like when I was watching his highlights at North Carolina.
33:48 --> 33:51 [SPEAKER_00]: He looked I looked a little skinny But walking around here at campman.
33:51 --> 33:54 [SPEAKER_00]: He looks like a wall of bricks.
33:54 --> 33:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he that dude that dude looks like a catcher
33:57 --> 34:03 [SPEAKER_01]: What happens when you eat a bunch of pv and jays people look at what it gets you But I did think Luke was lucky.
34:03 --> 34:04 [SPEAKER_01]: He was on the money.
34:04 --> 34:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I asked him you know what my little opening line Two of them was my pick-up line when we walked over to talk to him.
34:09 --> 34:11 [SPEAKER_01]: I just said skip your jiff
34:13 --> 34:14 [SPEAKER_01]: He knew what you're talking about.
34:14 --> 34:19 [SPEAKER_01]: I knew exactly what I was talking about because that story made its rounds about the 1500 PBNJs.
34:19 --> 34:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Now we did confirm for those who don't know the story.
34:22 --> 34:27 [SPEAKER_01]: They talked about on one of the TV broadcasts of a North Carolina baseball game last year.
34:27 --> 34:30 [SPEAKER_01]: The Luke Stephenson eats 1500 PBNJs a season.
34:30 --> 34:37 [SPEAKER_01]: We've started to hear some inklings that that may be a little bit exaggerated, which I was like, I hope so, because that's an insane number, that's like five a day.
34:38 --> 34:41 [SPEAKER_01]: But Luke said it is not that many, however,
34:41 --> 34:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I usually eat one every day.
34:42 --> 34:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, dude, I want every day and he's like, I was like, you know what?
34:47 --> 34:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I can have some appreciation for somebody who enjoys PBNJ as much as I do.
34:50 --> 34:52 [SPEAKER_01]: So I had a feeling we connect on that.
34:52 --> 34:59 [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, really down to Earth, talker, I really look forward to getting to know him more.
34:59 --> 35:04 [SPEAKER_00]: So in terms of what we're looking forward to for these next few days, we still have some things in our checklist.
35:04 --> 35:05 [SPEAKER_00]: We're looking to look off.
35:05 --> 35:06 [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't gotten a good look at Rob Raff Snyder yet.
35:06 --> 35:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Just full transparency.
35:08 --> 35:11 [SPEAKER_00]: That was my number one storyline to all the listeners.
35:11 --> 35:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to take a look at Rob Raff Snyder.
35:13 --> 35:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Haven't gotten a good look at Rob Raff Snyder.
35:15 --> 35:17 [SPEAKER_00]: So that is still TBD for me.
35:17 --> 35:23 [SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's actually coming to my mind because just to talk about who we're trying to talk to this week, we're trying to sit down with Rick Riss.
35:23 --> 35:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I think we're going to do it tomorrow morning on Wednesday.
35:26 --> 35:29 [SPEAKER_00]: When this comes out, hopefully we'll be taping a few hours
35:29 --> 35:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, you'll, when you hear this episode, but I was, I was looking at Rick and I was listening to him talk because this is his last spring training as the voice of the Mariners, but I kind of feel like Rick's going to be like, each row, it's spring training because each row still shows up to Mariners, spring training throughout the entire thing.
35:45 --> 35:46 [SPEAKER_00]: He's got his workouts.
35:46 --> 35:47 [SPEAKER_00]: He's got Allen as interpreter.
35:48 --> 35:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Each with a team does his workouts and it leaves.
35:51 --> 35:53 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I've seen him ever go to a spring training game.
35:53 --> 35:54 [SPEAKER_00]: He just leaves.
35:55 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like Rick's going to be similar to each row.
36:00 --> 36:07 [SPEAKER_00]: go through the motions of being the broadcaster of being Rick Rizz and being around and talking to players and giving tours.
36:08 --> 36:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Just like each row, well, like I don't feel like he's gonna go away.
36:12 --> 36:24 [SPEAKER_01]: So you think after Rick's done broadcasting games this year, even though he might not be broadcasting anymore, you'll just see him every spring training, walking around, talking to people, giving tours, and then when the workouts wrap up, he'll just go home.
36:25 --> 36:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
36:25 --> 36:28 [SPEAKER_00]: I think so because he has a he had I mean he's talked about he has a house down here.
36:29 --> 36:34 [SPEAKER_00]: So he it would make sense for him to spend a lot of time down here With the team around the team.
36:34 --> 36:35 [SPEAKER_00]: There's one thing we know about Rick.
36:35 --> 36:38 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean he made it clear when he announces retirement.
36:38 --> 36:43 [SPEAKER_00]: He wants to spend more time with family But for Rick Riz it's family and the Seattle Mariners.
36:43 --> 36:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like this is his life.
36:44 --> 36:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we're gonna stop seeing him around now For sure like we will probably still see him in years to come Mariners games plenty just talking to people and
36:53 --> 37:05 [SPEAKER_01]: you know, seeing faces and yeah, maybe he'll give tours, maybe he'll, maybe he'll have some sort of, I mean, each hero's the executive to the chairman, Rick's not going to be in some baseball role.
37:05 --> 37:07 [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to define his role, but I'm a social assistant.
37:08 --> 37:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I feel like Rick's going to have some role with the Mariners, even after he's done, or he can still basically just be around whenever he wants.
37:15 --> 37:16 [SPEAKER_01]: He's just not going to be broadcasting the games.
37:16 --> 37:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
37:17 --> 37:18 [SPEAKER_00]: So we'll we'll see.
37:18 --> 37:24 [SPEAKER_00]: a lot a lot of things to talk about in these next few days and look out for oh by the of almost a red to mention it.
37:24 --> 37:25 [SPEAKER_00]: So did he get to talk to Ryan Sloan?
37:26 --> 37:28 [SPEAKER_00]: It's good seeing Ryan Sloan we talked to him on Monday.
37:29 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_00]: We were hearing all this talk about the kind of shape he's in, how he looks great, how he's jacked, and that he got nicknamed the Centaur by Brian Wu.
37:38 --> 37:39 [SPEAKER_00]: We're talking to him on Monday.
37:40 --> 37:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I kind of want to counter all that, but not even in a negative way, in a positive way.
37:43 --> 37:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Ryan Sloan just looked, I thought, good, you slimmed down, I thought, still does baby face, but otherwise, I used just, I was expecting, like, Roger Clements to walk at us.
37:57 --> 37:58 [SPEAKER_00]: But, I mean, I just saw Ryan Sloan.
37:59 --> 38:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he was, he was all upset.
38:01 --> 38:03 [SPEAKER_01]: He lost in the first round of his fantasy football playoffs.
38:03 --> 38:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I know.
38:04 --> 38:06 [SPEAKER_01]: He drafted Brock Bowers in the second round.
38:06 --> 38:09 [SPEAKER_01]: And I drafted Brock Bowers super early, too.
38:09 --> 38:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And we were like, yeah, that guy didn't play it all this year.
38:11 --> 38:12 [SPEAKER_01]: That was a killer.
38:12 --> 38:14 [SPEAKER_01]: And then he had, oh, he said he had Malik neighbors.
38:14 --> 38:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
38:15 --> 38:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Who also did not play all year.
38:16 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_01]: So he's like, listen, I still made the playoffs.
38:18 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_01]: But...
38:19 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_01]: I should have been way better.
38:20 --> 38:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I had to scrap my team together all year, and then I lost him the first round.
38:23 --> 38:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we tried and Ryan Sloan, it doesn't even seem like that big of a bear sandwich.
38:28 --> 38:29 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like Spanish football.
38:29 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
38:30 --> 38:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's a teach their own.
38:31 --> 38:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He's a football fan.
38:32 --> 38:32 [SPEAKER_00]: He's a football fan.
38:32 --> 38:45 [SPEAKER_01]: We were talking about that with him, and he talked about unleashes to see him a little bit more this year, which he said, I guess he's had in his back pocket for years, but now he's starting to really kind of let it rip, because it's a pitch that can really get on some varieties.
38:45 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, anything else?
38:49 --> 38:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we just threw a hell of a lot of storylines with people.
38:51 --> 38:56 [SPEAKER_01]: So, if you want to be taken through, what we've done at Spring Training, I think we gave a lot of it to you through the first two days.
