00:54 --> 01:21 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean they're done there it is cooked it's over and this is our opening day tradition isn't it every time they lose the first game of the year and we do our post podcast afterwards we do it every year season's over well the only thing we know now for this twenty twenty six season is that they have a zero winning percentage and last I checked can you make the playoffs with a zero winning percentage it's like Pete Carroll saying can you win a game in the first quarter no no you can't but if you
01:21 --> 01:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Also true.
01:22 --> 01:24 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a fair fair point fair point.
01:24 --> 01:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're we're here at the Holland Oxidental.
01:27 --> 01:28 [SPEAKER_00]: It has been quite a day.
01:28 --> 01:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Me and you have been out and about we have been talking to fans.
01:31 --> 01:32 [SPEAKER_00]: We've been watching baseball.
01:32 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_00]: We had a fantastic event here with Corona today this being part of the event.
01:37 --> 01:44 [SPEAKER_00]: We really encourage you guys to watch this episode on YouTube because you can see the dope set up that the Holland Oxidental has we're here upstairs.
01:44 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_00]: up and like so the whole noxidentals in like the triangle building here on oxidental avenue and the way this upstairs work it sort of gives like this just a little platform that we have and tucked away in the corner here is this little lounge that we're recording at.
01:59 --> 02:10 [SPEAKER_00]: It looks great we have some stuff from our friends from corona we're hoping to give away this corona cooler to one of our fantastic fans that are sitting here and watching us here tonight like listen to this woo
02:12 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_01]: This is the coolest thing ever very cool shout out to all you guys seriously And everybody that listens to watches like this is the most people we've ever had watch a podcast in person We have people watching after the playoffs too.
02:24 --> 02:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I would say we can't see those people.
02:25 --> 02:26 [SPEAKER_00]: They're behind us.
02:26 --> 02:27 [SPEAKER_01]: That's true
02:27 --> 02:29 [SPEAKER_00]: now we have a little bit more of an audience.
02:30 --> 02:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if we'll take any hot takes from the crowd at this point.
02:33 --> 02:37 [SPEAKER_00]: I think we have the hot takes covered for now, but you know, the night is young.
02:37 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_00]: So I guess we'll see it before we get into any this action.
02:39 --> 02:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's just take care of some business.
02:41 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to thank our friends of Corona.
02:43 --> 02:45 [SPEAKER_00]: for putting on again an amazing event today.
02:45 --> 02:47 [SPEAKER_00]: We had some wonderful giveaway stuff.
02:47 --> 03:03 [SPEAKER_00]: We had some uh... bottle openers that were great had some uh... what uh... what we had some like you got sunglasses we had some sunglasses of course this fantastic cooler here and just sort of remind you guys for corona options in around the mariner's the official beer partner of the mariner's
03:03 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_00]: They have a newly remodeled Corona Beach bar inside the ballpark.
03:07 --> 03:18 [SPEAKER_00]: So if you're not here at Occidental Hall and you're inside the ballpark, the Corona Beach bar inside the stadium is a fantastic place to go get a beverage from one of Corona's many options.
03:18 --> 03:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Here are the options you have available to you.
03:21 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_00]: You have the premiere option, which is the lighter than light beer.
03:24 --> 03:29 [SPEAKER_00]: You have the sun brew option, which will be great once June and July rolls around in the weather warms up.
03:29 --> 03:42 [SPEAKER_00]: the easy drinking flavored option, and a is the only true non-alcoholic option in the Corona family of beers, and then Corona extra, the option that takes everyone back to a beach or to the ballpark.
03:42 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of great options, if you go to a Mariners game, go drink some Corona, really appreciate them putting this event on.
03:48 --> 03:52 [SPEAKER_00]: We will have six more of these events throughout the 20, 26 season.
03:53 --> 03:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Take away from opening day.
03:54 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_00]: What you got?
03:56 --> 04:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Takeaways from opening day on a serious note the season is not over as much as I would like to sit here and proclaim it is It would be less fun for us of the season was actually over tonight.
04:07 --> 04:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Can I start with a fun story line?
04:08 --> 04:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you can start with a funny fun story line.
04:12 --> 04:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we saw what this lineup can do when they face right handed pitching We know that this lineup has left handed hitters that are gonna crush righties and we saw three of them tonight
04:21 --> 04:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Take him deep, Luke Rayleigh, Dom canzone for two, and Brendan Donovan, who we've talked about at a point in this off season, but I don't know if we've hammered it home enough, the dude just destroys right-handed pitching for his career last season.
04:35 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_01]: It is one of his strengths, and he's sought in the first and bad of the first inning tonight where he takes Tanner by be deep for a home run, which I don't think anybody expected.
04:43 --> 04:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Like I don't know who had on their bingo card tonight, the Brendan Donovan was going deep in his first marinara bat, but he did.
04:51 --> 05:16 [SPEAKER_00]: the lineup as a whole for how it was structured like the idea way they want to attack these right handed hitters is to have Brendan Donovan leading off because that's honestly like his most optimized self if you listen to our conversation with Jason Churchill an episode ago he said what Brendan Donovan is good at is hitting right he's that's when he should be hitting lead off what did he do today when he was facing a righty took him yard who said Brendan Donovan couldn't hit a team of park not TJ TJ never said that
05:16 --> 05:23 [SPEAKER_00]: But also it was Dom can zone who gets the start in that spot, opposed opposite Rob Reftsigner and same with Luke Rayleigh.
05:23 --> 05:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Like that's the positive right there, you're right.
05:26 --> 05:33 [SPEAKER_00]: If they can face a variety, which they will do 60 to 70% of the time this year, those are the guys that are going to be playing in the first version of it looked pretty good.
05:33 --> 05:35 [SPEAKER_00]: And there's not a ton of lefties in the AL West.
05:35 --> 05:37 [SPEAKER_00]: There's not none, but no framer anymore.
05:37 --> 05:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
05:38 --> 05:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So, Framber out, you add McKenzie Gore, there's, I mean, Gore's good, but there's not going to be a ton of just ridiculous lefties you're going to have to see throughout the year in the division.
05:46 --> 05:48 [SPEAKER_00]: And I won't even classify Gore as like an ace.
05:48 --> 05:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Like Gore had a really good first half of the season last year, not as good in the second half.
05:52 --> 05:57 [SPEAKER_00]: It's yet to be seen if he's going to be the guy that will go like toe to toe the length of the season and give this lineup fits when they need it.
05:57 --> 05:59 [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know August or September.
06:00 --> 06:01 [SPEAKER_00]: But besides that, you're right.
06:01 --> 06:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Frambers in the central now, you see him.
06:04 --> 06:07 [SPEAKER_00]: three series or two series last year, besides that.
06:07 --> 06:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I think Terriq school.
06:08 --> 06:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Do we need to really have to say his name?
06:10 --> 06:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we can say his name.
06:11 --> 06:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
06:11 --> 06:12 [SPEAKER_01]: But they don't see him till June.
06:13 --> 06:14 [SPEAKER_00]: So we can hold on to that.
06:14 --> 06:14 [SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
06:14 --> 06:16 [SPEAKER_01]: That's this game alone, though.
06:16 --> 06:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, I think that's a positive sign.
06:18 --> 06:25 [SPEAKER_01]: You can't, similar to how we always say you can't take away all that much from spring training in terms of stats and actual numbers that get posted.
06:25 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_01]: You can't take that much away from opening day.
06:28 --> 06:32 [SPEAKER_01]: But when you see the guys that are supposed to crush
06:32 --> 06:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Noteworthy have at least taken notice, especially because it's now the regular season in a game that counts, especially can't zone leaving the art twice.
06:40 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_00]: So that's how they want to optimize it.
06:41 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's a very positive thing from opening day.
06:43 --> 06:48 [SPEAKER_00]: If we're going to talk about the rest of this game, I don't think much else went right on opening day.
06:48 --> 06:52 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I really, from a baseball perspective, I mean, where do we start?
06:53 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_00]: We wanted to at first see what does the 2026 version of Logan Gilbert looked like?
06:59 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_00]: the first thing we saw, the first sample we have of him, it's a lot like he didn't 2025.
07:05 --> 07:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he was bad by any means, because there were parts of his starts start that was good tonight.
07:09 --> 07:10 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he missed bats.
07:11 --> 07:12 [SPEAKER_01]: He got seven strikeouts.
07:12 --> 07:15 [SPEAKER_01]: You saw him clearly be able to keep the guardians off balance a bit.
07:16 --> 07:19 [SPEAKER_01]: The other side of it is he just didn't work that deep into the game.
07:19 --> 07:22 [SPEAKER_01]: And he was never gonna get stretched out all that far and his first start.
07:22 --> 07:24 [SPEAKER_01]: The mirrors are pretty consistent about this, right?
07:24 --> 07:30 [SPEAKER_01]: When these guys make their first starts early in the year, late March, April, this is about the pitch count they put about.
07:30 --> 07:32 [SPEAKER_01]: About 85 pitches, which is what Logan threw.
07:32 --> 07:34 [SPEAKER_01]: But he also only went five and a third.
07:35 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_00]: which is just like he did last year, sure.
07:37 --> 07:44 [SPEAKER_00]: But if we do the comparison to Logan last year, I mean, Logan through seven innings on opening day last year was fantastic.
07:44 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Logan did not throw seven innings this year and he made his way through the start.
07:48 --> 07:50 [SPEAKER_00]: It was not as good as it could have been.
07:50 --> 07:52 [SPEAKER_00]: He was in the main reason they lost.
07:52 --> 07:54 [SPEAKER_00]: He just wasn't great on opening day.
07:54 --> 07:56 [SPEAKER_01]: No, they were going pretty toe to toe by the time he had accident the game.
07:56 --> 07:58 [SPEAKER_01]: When he accident the game,
07:58 --> 07:59 [SPEAKER_01]: things were right at bay.
08:00 --> 08:06 [SPEAKER_00]: And then the Mariners do the first edition of deploying their two lefties out of the bullpen.
08:06 --> 08:13 [SPEAKER_00]: This is the first time in a bit that the Mariners have had to high-powered lefties in their bullpen to attack a lineup.
08:14 --> 08:20 [SPEAKER_00]: And they brought in those lefties, Gabe Spiron, Josef Rarefra, came in first, then Spire in
08:20 --> 08:27 [SPEAKER_00]: a situation where those guys were supposed to keep the guardians at bay and now and neither them did their job tonight.
08:27 --> 08:31 [SPEAKER_00]: And so the first thing we get to see about that was not positive.
08:32 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_01]: No, how much do you want to put into one outing of one game in the first week of the year?
08:37 --> 08:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely zero.
08:38 --> 08:40 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying they played the strategy how they want.
08:41 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_00]: The things that were supposed to be different about this Mariners team.
08:44 --> 08:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Like let's list it off.
08:45 --> 08:48 [SPEAKER_00]: There are supposed to be less homeruns of this team more on base.
08:49 --> 08:52 [SPEAKER_00]: Last I checked the Mariners pretty much just hit home runs tonight.
08:52 --> 08:53 [SPEAKER_00]: You score solo home runs.
08:53 --> 08:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we talk about Logan looking like 20, 25 Logan.
08:56 --> 09:00 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners offense in a lot of ways look like the 20, 25 Mariners in game one.
09:00 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying the next 161 look like that, but they were very reliant on solo home runs.
09:05 --> 09:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go and run tonight.
09:06 --> 09:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, four runs, six total hits.
09:08 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_00]: And, what, two walks, 14 strikeouts, that, that, that sounds like the 25-mariner.
09:15 --> 09:16 [SPEAKER_00]: It does.
09:16 --> 09:17 [SPEAKER_00]: It's the first game.
09:17 --> 09:21 [SPEAKER_00]: The Guardians have a solid pitching staff, but that's how it looked.
09:21 --> 09:22 [SPEAKER_00]: So that was supposed to be one thing.
09:23 --> 09:23 [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't do that tonight.
09:24 --> 09:29 [SPEAKER_00]: The other thing was having the ability to have that second left-handed arm in the bullpen.
09:29 --> 09:34 [SPEAKER_00]: The two lefties came in for air
09:35 --> 09:37 [SPEAKER_00]: then Gabe Spire came in and gave up two runs.
09:38 --> 09:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Those two guys are supposed to give the Mariners the advantage, but tonight they did not.
09:43 --> 09:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Fred, and give up a run, but you're right.
09:44 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't all that smooth either.
09:46 --> 09:47 [SPEAKER_00]: No, he was not.
09:47 --> 09:49 [SPEAKER_00]: He had to fight his way out of trouble.
09:49 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_00]: And then we get to the later innings, where I will ask you how you're feeling about the late innings, me being the calm one and game one,
09:59 --> 10:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, so what Dan Wilson did, he put Casey like a mean it in a one run game in the eighth inning and then he put Cooper Chris well in a one run game in the ninth inning and Chris will give up a home run to chase to lottery who hit two home runs tonight, which by the way is technically his debut.
10:14 --> 10:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he played in the postseason, which is why it's weird.
10:17 --> 10:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Or when Alex Kirill off with the twins did that a few years ago, I think he debuted in the postseason.
10:29 --> 10:32 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not his first time playing in the big leagues because he debuted in the postseason.
10:32 --> 10:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I mean, there's, do people want to see me go 15 rounds about this on opening night?
10:39 --> 10:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it really, I mean, here's what we can say.
10:43 --> 11:09 [SPEAKER_00]: there I think there are two sides of this number one it's a long season so you don't want to like you're not trying to add extra outings to your guys in game one when the standing haven't even shaken out yet aka go to Matt Brash in that scenario which I think if it was later in the season and the games were tighter and the Mariners run a division race that they really needed to win Matt Brash is in that game instead of Chris well or instead of
11:10 --> 11:18 [SPEAKER_00]: But on the other side, one run game, and you're bringing in your two worst relievers out of the bullpen and everybody's obviously fresh.
11:18 --> 11:19 [SPEAKER_01]: It's the first game of the year.
11:19 --> 11:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
11:19 --> 11:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I was a little surprised.
11:21 --> 11:22 [SPEAKER_01]: We didn't see Bizarro at all.
11:23 --> 11:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you don't go to Brash in that situation.
11:25 --> 11:28 [SPEAKER_01]: It was a little surprise we never saw Bizarro because he's that guy in the middle, right?
11:29 --> 11:33 [SPEAKER_01]: What Ferraris, to Spire, Bizarro, is supposed to be to Brash in Munoz, where...
11:33 --> 11:55 [SPEAKER_01]: little bit less leverage but the situations where you're down a run to runs maybe it's tied and you're trying to bridge it to him a little bit and keep the game close that's usually his spot now maybe he's going to throw a lot more this weekend maybe they're trying to manage him a little bit more careful after the WBC workload he got but I was just a little surprised that yeah we saw like a meena in a one run game in the eighth inning.
11:55 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_00]: When Dan was asked about it after the point, it didn't really give an exact answer why which is not new for Dan Wilson to do that.
12:02 --> 12:09 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to assume they are probably just planning to use Brash tomorrow and if not tomorrow then the day after.
12:09 --> 12:11 [SPEAKER_00]: They got a long season ago.
12:11 --> 12:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Also, another thing on the other side of it, more on the defense side of this, Mariners did not score Run when those two came in.
12:18 --> 12:27 [SPEAKER_00]: So it's not, you could have put, you could have traded for Edwin Diaz, and he would have pitched the last two innings, and it wouldn't have mattered one bit, because the Mariners scored zero runs in the eighth and ninth.
12:27 --> 12:31 [SPEAKER_01]: What if I wanted to trade for Brian and Brayu?
12:31 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_00]: What about Kyle Tucker?
12:33 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_00]: Well,
12:34 --> 12:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
12:35 --> 12:37 [SPEAKER_00]: They want to help the Mariners score some rotten.
12:37 --> 12:38 [SPEAKER_00]: See, he got, uh, he got it.
12:38 --> 12:39 [SPEAKER_00]: He got it.
12:39 --> 12:41 [SPEAKER_00]: RBI Double, I think, in his first step, that is a Dodger.
12:41 --> 12:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Hmm.
12:41 --> 12:42 [SPEAKER_00]: That's a shame.
12:43 --> 12:46 [SPEAKER_00]: We did actually, we were talking to people about climbing mountains today.
12:46 --> 12:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Somebody tried to tell me I have to climb a mountain because he didn't sign with the Mariners.
12:50 --> 12:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, um, I think he should.
12:52 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's nothing to be good for you.
12:53 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_01]: No.
12:53 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
12:53 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I think you're doing the same thing my brother is currently done.
12:56 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_01]: He told me if the Kyle Tucker did not sign with the Mariners.
12:59 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I had to hike.
12:59 --> 13:01 [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, absolutely not if he doesn't sign.
13:01 --> 13:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not doing it.
13:02 --> 13:04 [SPEAKER_00]: Actually, I think we should pull the crowd on this.
13:04 --> 13:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Should Lyle have to hike if Kyle Tucker doesn't sign with the Mariners, aka he has to.
13:10 --> 13:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
13:12 --> 13:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, no, the answer is no, if he doesn't like it.
13:16 --> 13:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, if he doesn't sign, I don't have to like no, let us know down in the comments below.
13:21 --> 13:24 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to see why I want to see why I want to see why.
13:24 --> 13:25 [SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't because he doesn't.
13:25 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_00]: We don't get to see it.
13:27 --> 13:29 [SPEAKER_01]: And you're not going to see it because the man's not a mariner.
13:29 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_01]: The other thing we could talk about from this game, the other decision point is how the Gabe Spire Jose Ramirez
13:40 --> 13:43 [SPEAKER_01]: was, you know, how they proceeded with it.
13:44 --> 13:45 [SPEAKER_01]: There's probably two sides with it.
13:45 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_01]: First off, the pitch came through to J-Ram.
13:48 --> 13:49 [SPEAKER_01]: It was not a bad pitch.
13:49 --> 13:58 [SPEAKER_01]: In fact, it was way out of the zone, but J-Ram being one of the best players in the game took it for a double and that ended up being the deciding runs and what was a Guardian's opening night win.
13:58 --> 14:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It was first and second, there was two outs.
14:01 --> 14:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Jay Ramm was up and with Game Spire in the game.
14:04 --> 14:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Who look?
14:05 --> 14:13 [SPEAKER_01]: We know is one of the best relievers in the game against lefties, but it's also just one of the game's great relievers in terms of what he did last year and when he said it's best.
14:14 --> 14:17 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm sure if you asked Gabe or we were to ask Gabe.
14:17 --> 14:19 [SPEAKER_01]: He would say, yeah, I got to make my pictures.
14:19 --> 14:19 [SPEAKER_01]: I got to get out of that.
14:20 --> 14:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I got to be more efficient.
14:21 --> 14:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I shouldn't give up the hit to Jose Ramirez.
14:23 --> 14:32 [SPEAKER_01]: But it was also an open base with Kyle Manzardo on deck, so you would have had a lefty lefty matchup with a guy that is obviously not Jose Ramirez at the play.
14:33 --> 14:34 [SPEAKER_01]: And there's already been discourse about that.
14:34 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_01]: I've seen it all throughout social rounds throughout the course of opening night.
14:39 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Was that the right way to deploy it?
14:41 --> 14:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, again, people don't want to hear me go 15 rounds about this on an opening night game with 161 more to go.
14:47 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_01]: There was probably a discussion of you had about whether you could have just put them on.
14:52 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_00]: But there's also a discussion to be had that Gabe is a top 10 reliever in Major League Baseball and top 10 relievers should get everybody out.
15:02 --> 15:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and look, Gabe would tell you exactly that.
15:04 --> 15:09 [SPEAKER_01]: If we were to ask him tomorrow this weekend whenever, he'd say, yeah, like I just got to make my pitches.
15:09 --> 15:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't want to walk him.
15:10 --> 15:11 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm there to strike him out.
15:11 --> 15:13 [SPEAKER_00]: And again, he threw him a pretty good pitch.
15:13 --> 15:18 [SPEAKER_00]: He got a chase on a slider down and way out of the strike zone and a Hall of Fame hitter just hit it.
15:18 --> 15:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, okay, like sometimes that happens.
15:21 --> 15:24 [SPEAKER_00]: But there's also, there's also another argument here.
15:25 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Hitters that gave a swire, gave up a hit to left on left, prior to that at bat.
15:30 --> 15:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Brian Rokio.
15:33 --> 15:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Brian, remember us raging about Brian Rokio last year?
15:36 --> 15:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you did a lot of it.
15:37 --> 15:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
15:38 --> 15:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Hell is not crazy.
15:39 --> 15:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Him and Daniel Schneiman, you did a lot.
15:42 --> 15:43 [SPEAKER_00]: So that's left on left.
15:43 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And then left on left with making his MLB debut
15:50 --> 16:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Like, Gabe's also gonna tell you, I mean, you're telling me I'm facing a rookie making his MLB debut and Brian Rokio left on left, probably get him out.
16:01 --> 16:02 [SPEAKER_01]: He would probably say that.
16:02 --> 16:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
16:03 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_00]: And then you don't even, oh, I got this wrong actually.
16:05 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Bryan Rokio is a right-handed hitter.
16:07 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
16:07 --> 16:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Regardless, I don't care if Bryan Rokio is a right-handed hitter or a left-handed hitter, Gabe Spire would tell you, yeah, I should get those guys out.
16:13 --> 16:15 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's my argument.
16:15 --> 16:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Gabe Spire is one of your dominant leverage arms.
16:18 --> 16:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Dominant leverage arms.
16:20 --> 16:21 [SPEAKER_00]: Don't intentionally walk guys.
16:21 --> 16:27 [SPEAKER_01]: But you don't want to attempt the match up with Manzardo and live with it if he beats you rather than J-Ram beating you.
16:27 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, the one absolutely deadly hitter in that lineup.
16:30 --> 16:38 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, maybe, but again, it shouldn't have even gotten to that point and even so like it's not like Gabe threw him a cookie right down the middle.
16:39 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_00]: He might have been pitching J-RAM safe and like it might have been like if he strikes out great if he walks not the end of the world and J-RAM just went down and scooped a pitch that was meant to be a ball in for a go ahead double.
16:51 --> 16:53 [SPEAKER_01]: J-RAM also doesn't really strike out.
16:53 --> 16:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's usually posted one of the lowest strikeout rates in baseball.
16:56 --> 16:58 [SPEAKER_00]: What's ironic, one of the only guys you does strike him out?
16:58 --> 16:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Matt Prash.
17:00 --> 17:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Famously.
17:01 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Famously.
17:02 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Very famously.
17:03 --> 17:07 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, look, there's a discussion to be had about it, but you're not going to see me just go nuts tonight.
17:07 --> 17:10 [SPEAKER_01]: In fact, we had people sitting here and it's like, so are you just going to freak out tonight or what?
17:11 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, well, maybe not in game one.
17:12 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I do feel like a good majority of these people showed up just to see if you would yell.
17:19 --> 17:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they want me to get really mad.
17:20 --> 17:21 [SPEAKER_01]: I want to see the vane bulge.
17:21 --> 17:24 [SPEAKER_01]: The problem is this is not carry carbon in the playoffs.
17:24 --> 17:26 [SPEAKER_01]: So you've got to save your bullets people.
17:26 --> 17:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Like if you just do it 162 times a year, nobody's going to take that serious.
17:30 --> 17:34 [SPEAKER_01]: But what happens in the playoffs with carry carbon or people are like, oh, there's something wrong here.
17:36 --> 17:52 [SPEAKER_00]: non-based fall observations for opening it actually before we do that uh... do you want to talk about our burger because we are our new burger here at the hall our collab with the hall is out and let me tell you guys holy smokes is this thing good i don't even think you gave that enough
17:52 --> 17:54 [SPEAKER_01]: like hype up right there.
17:54 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_01]: We've our own burger now.
17:55 --> 17:56 [SPEAKER_00]: And we do.
17:56 --> 17:57 [SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty cool.
17:57 --> 18:06 [SPEAKER_01]: There's like, I don't want to like blow too much smoke or anything, but the fact we have our own burger at a restaurant that we love, multiple restaurants that we love is sick.
18:07 --> 18:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Now, it's technically not going to be called the Marine layer burger or the Marine layer pod burger.
18:12 --> 18:13 [SPEAKER_01]: You can call it that if you want.
18:14 --> 18:26 [SPEAKER_01]: I feel more than free to call it that, we won't tell you now, but on the menu and the way you will find it, if you're at any of your hall locations, boss Bay Hall, Queen Ambeir Hall, Oxidental Hall, it's going to be called the walk off burger.
18:27 --> 18:29 [SPEAKER_01]: What is on it, you might ask?
18:29 --> 18:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Check this out.
18:30 --> 18:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Double smash, so double smash burger, as all hall locations have amazing smash burgers, but this one has shaved onions on it.
18:38 --> 18:42 [SPEAKER_01]: As cheddar cheese, it's on sourdough bread, but here's the kicker.
18:43 --> 18:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Why is this the marine layer burger?
18:44 --> 18:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Why is this burger?
18:45 --> 18:48 [SPEAKER_01]: The walkoff burger, I should say, catered around us.
18:49 --> 18:51 [SPEAKER_01]: How do they make it kind of relate to us?
18:52 --> 18:55 [SPEAKER_01]: This is a peanut butter and jelly burger, you guys.
18:55 --> 19:00 [SPEAKER_01]: So it's going to have creamy peanut butter and strawberry jam on sourdough bread as a burger.
19:00 --> 19:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Creamy peanut butter, sourdough jam, double smash, shaved onions, cheddar cheese on sourdough bread.
19:08 --> 19:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Disgusting what the hell did you guys cook up?
19:10 --> 19:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like are you guys trying to get in here and like give us all stomach aches?
19:14 --> 19:19 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I promised you we would never sell you things that we don't fully endorse ourselves.
19:19 --> 19:20 [SPEAKER_01]: TJ and I have tried this.
19:20 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_01]: We've tasted it not only do we approve.
19:22 --> 19:25 [SPEAKER_01]: We were like, oh, this is really good.
19:25 --> 19:26 [SPEAKER_00]: This is really good.
19:26 --> 19:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Really good Recommended at any of the three hall locations Moss Bay Hall right here at Oxford dental hall right next to the ballpark and then our favorite queen and beer hall as well
19:36 --> 19:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Anything to kind of either tie loose ends on as we wrap this episode up or even preview tomorrow as it's going to be George Kirby and Yeah, the Williams can we talk a little bit about the atmosphere.
19:48 --> 19:49 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean fantastic.
19:49 --> 19:55 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean the foot the fans are back and they are ready and they're hungry And we're we're hungry.
19:55 --> 19:58 [SPEAKER_00]: We're ready for this team to go win win big
19:58 --> 20:00 [SPEAKER_00]: and everyone we talk to here today.
20:00 --> 20:02 [SPEAKER_00]: The wind projection was over 90.
20:02 --> 20:08 [SPEAKER_00]: The expectation is winning the division competing for the penit and potentially winning a world series.
20:08 --> 20:09 [SPEAKER_00]: How cool is that?
20:09 --> 20:12 [SPEAKER_00]: It's no like all this ownership group didn't spend.
20:12 --> 20:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't have faith in this Mariners franchise.
20:16 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Almost everyone we talked to today has set the bar incredibly high and that's what I put out on social Thursday morning.
20:22 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_00]: I said this team is as talented as any team they have put out there.
20:26 --> 20:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Hold them to a high standard and walking around the ballpark.
20:30 --> 20:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I heard a high standard.
20:32 --> 20:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean people are so
20:42 --> 20:45 [SPEAKER_01]: have we really seen this in our lives ever to this level?
20:45 --> 20:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, people were excited after making the playoffs in 22, but I don't really think we've ever seen it like this.
20:51 --> 20:56 [SPEAKER_00]: In season, like near the deadline, when they would go get big deadline additions, we'd see it.
20:56 --> 21:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Especially after Randy, people were excited to see Randy on the team last year with Gino and Nailer, you could not find a negative reaction for that deadline.
21:06 --> 21:08 [SPEAKER_00]: It's March 26th.
21:08 --> 21:09 [SPEAKER_00]: right now.
21:09 --> 21:16 [SPEAKER_01]: And again, despite losing opening night, which side note, the Mariners rarely lose opening night, especially opening night at home.
21:16 --> 21:20 [SPEAKER_01]: They almost always win, which is why this one's such a one off that they lost opening night.
21:20 --> 21:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
21:21 --> 21:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
21:22 --> 21:29 [SPEAKER_01]: This roster, paired to just the roster a year ago, I mean, it is so leaps and bounds better.
21:29 --> 21:33 [SPEAKER_01]: A year ago, we had Roudi Tiles and Donovan Salano at first base.
21:33 --> 21:35 [SPEAKER_01]: They had Jorge Polanco attempting to play third.
21:36 --> 21:38 [SPEAKER_01]: They had, who else, what else am I forgetting?
21:39 --> 21:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there was a lot of starting lineup from them.
21:41 --> 21:46 [SPEAKER_01]: There was a lot of stuff about last year's lineup that had serious question marks about it.
21:46 --> 21:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Look, we love Ryan Bliss.
21:48 --> 21:54 [SPEAKER_01]: like ultimate, ultimate, nice guy, but he was penciled in to be the real second basement for a guy who was pretty unproven.
21:55 --> 21:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, listen to this starting lineup last year.
21:56 --> 22:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Robless, Julio, Cal, a rosarina, Rayleigh, Palanco, to Les Brist, Bliss Crawford, which a lot of that isn't that different, but again, polo at third, Bliss Unproven at second, Rowdy and Solano at first, this lineup, Brendan Donovan.
22:13 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_01]: and Josh Nailer, and a real expectation at a coal-young to take the jump.
22:17 --> 22:21 [SPEAKER_00]: And this is time last year, people didn't have confidence Jorge Polanco could hit.
22:21 --> 22:29 [SPEAKER_00]: So the lineup was, you have Julio, you have Cal, you had half a season of Victor Robless, Randy is streaky, and then, yeah, you don't know.
22:30 --> 22:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
22:30 --> 22:36 [SPEAKER_01]: This lineup is, again, despite losing today, really, really impressive.
22:37 --> 22:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I would just over all very impressed with the atmosphere tonight.
22:40 --> 22:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Like when we walked up to the press box after we were done with our first portion of the coronavirus event here at the hall, walked up to the press box just in time for Brennan Donovan to hit his home run.
22:49 --> 22:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of felt like a playoff crowd in that moment.
22:51 --> 22:51 [SPEAKER_00]: They erupted.
22:51 --> 22:52 [SPEAKER_00]: They erupted.
22:52 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone was packed in their seats.
22:54 --> 22:55 [SPEAKER_00]: That's really what it felt like.
22:56 --> 22:59 [SPEAKER_00]: But it's not just we know these crowds are not one-offs.
22:59 --> 23:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Past opening days, the crowds are one-offs.
23:02 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not the case this year.
23:03 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Now, people are bought in, people, people have been buying more tickets, we could tell.
23:06 --> 23:08 [SPEAKER_00]: And people, people are having a great time.
23:08 --> 23:11 [SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to see a lot of pack crowds with the ballpark this year.
23:11 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Not just on opening day, not just weekends in the summer, I think we're going to see it a lot.
23:16 --> 23:16 [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of fun, man.
23:17 --> 23:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know if I got anything else.
23:18 --> 23:21 [SPEAKER_00]: The weather was perfect today.
23:21 --> 23:23 [SPEAKER_00]: It was as good of an opening day as you could ask for.
23:24 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_00]: It was a little cold, but it's March, so what are you going to, what do you expect?
23:27 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
23:29 --> 23:34 [SPEAKER_00]: If it's 70 degrees on opening day, then maybe we have other problems to worry about.
23:34 --> 23:38 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, that just about wraps up this edition of the Marine Lair podcast.
23:38 --> 23:39 [SPEAKER_01]: You guys know the drill.
