00:57 --> 01:02 [SPEAKER_00]: And we welcome each of this episode of the Marine Lair of podcast, part of the just baseball podcast network.
01:02 --> 01:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Recording here on Tuesday, in Denver, or recording on Tuesday and Denver.
01:08 --> 01:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Recording Tuesday, June the 9th.
01:09 --> 01:10 [SPEAKER_00]: June the 9th.
01:10 --> 01:15 [SPEAKER_00]: In Denver, see this is what happens when we go on the road and I don't have my usual setup of the date right in front of me.
01:16 --> 01:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Bad podcaster.
01:17 --> 01:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
01:18 --> 01:19 [SPEAKER_00]: Denver's cool.
01:20 --> 01:21 [SPEAKER_00]: I've like Denver so far.
01:21 --> 01:25 [SPEAKER_00]: We can give a little bit of a recap of our trip to or at least recap so far.
01:25 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_00]: We've only been here for about 24 hours as of sitting down and recording this, but we did see something cool at the ballpark tonight that we need to tell the story of, but it's been fun.
01:36 --> 01:38 [SPEAKER_00]: We're here shooting content for other channel.
01:38 --> 01:39 [SPEAKER_00]: We've gotten some Rockies.
01:39 --> 01:40 [SPEAKER_00]: We've gotten some Cubs.
01:41 --> 01:42 [SPEAKER_00]: We've ran into Mayor and fans here.
01:43 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Go figure and the nicest Astros fans.
01:46 --> 01:47 [SPEAKER_00]: I think we've ever talked to.
01:47 --> 01:50 [SPEAKER_01]: There's certainly not the Astro's fans that are on Twitter.
01:50 --> 01:50 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't know.
01:50 --> 01:51 [SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
01:51 --> 02:00 [SPEAKER_01]: So the reason we're here is because I think a lot of you know that we run another channel to, called bullpen banter, which is all centered around baseball trivia.
02:00 --> 02:02 [SPEAKER_01]: And now we're starting to go on the road a little bit.
02:02 --> 02:04 [SPEAKER_01]: So we're in Denver this week.
02:04 --> 02:08 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to see the Rockies and the Cubs over the next couple days.
02:08 --> 02:13 [SPEAKER_01]: We won't see the Cubs when they're in Seattle because we are going to be at our good friends wedding that weekend.
02:13 --> 02:14 [SPEAKER_01]: So we add a town.
02:15 --> 02:18 [SPEAKER_01]: It was a chance to catch the cubs, it was a chance to catch the Rockies.
02:18 --> 02:19 [SPEAKER_01]: It's been awesome so far.
02:19 --> 02:22 [SPEAKER_01]: It had never been to Cours Field, a great ballpark.
02:22 --> 02:24 [SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, that's what brought us out here.
02:24 --> 02:27 [SPEAKER_01]: We've started to get on the road a little bit for some of our bullpen banner stuff.
02:28 --> 02:47 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why we're sitting here in this hotel record in the podcast like this and we all we had to start somewhere our first quote unquote like road trip I would say that was wasn't even really road trip or we're doing the all star stuff in Seattle that first year yeah that's that was still within our first year of doing the podcast but we're sort of like out.
02:48 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_00]: doing things not at a mariner game.
02:50 --> 02:51 [SPEAKER_00]: And then that sort of led to here.
02:52 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes the winter meetings.
02:53 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
02:53 --> 02:54 [SPEAKER_00]: And then more all star games.
02:55 --> 03:00 [SPEAKER_00]: So we've been to and we'll be in Philadelphia for any of you listening that are going to be in Philadelphia for the all star game.
03:00 --> 03:00 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
03:00 --> 03:01 [SPEAKER_00]: We will be there.
03:01 --> 03:03 [SPEAKER_01]: So we've been to three all star games out.
03:03 --> 03:04 [SPEAKER_01]: We were in Seattle for it.
03:05 --> 03:06 [SPEAKER_01]: That was the first year of the podcast.
03:06 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Went to Dallas for it.
03:07 --> 03:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Went to Atlanta for it.
03:08 --> 03:09 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll be in Philly for it.
03:10 --> 03:12 [SPEAKER_01]: We've been to spring training for three years in a row.
03:12 --> 03:15 [SPEAKER_01]: We've been to the winter meetings for two years in a row.
03:15 --> 03:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, two winter meetings.
03:17 --> 03:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And now we're starting to get on the road to do some of our Volta men or stop, too.
03:20 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_01]: So I think we're going to do a couple trips without this year, which is pretty fun.
03:24 --> 03:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And well, and then after this, you'll hear about it more on Friday's podcast because we're going to tape it early, but that's the same friend that's getting married at the end of August where going to his bachelor party this weekend.
03:33 --> 03:46 [SPEAKER_01]: So, packed week for us, definitely involved some early tapings of some podcasts, but yeah, if maybe this is information nobody cares about, but if you do care about it, that's what we're up to this week, and that's why we're sitting in a hotel in Denver, recording a podcast.
03:46 --> 03:53 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like clowns, hija, I saw you guys out in El Segundo, and I heard your podcast then on Friday and your takes were terrible.
03:53 --> 03:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Were you guys just drunk when you recorded it?
03:55 --> 03:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
03:57 --> 04:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Now Friday's podcast, which would be a usual mail bag, we're gonna record that Wednesday evening.
04:03 --> 04:08 [SPEAKER_00]: If our takes are terrible on Friday's podcast, just know that was our full self, and we have nothing else to blame.
04:08 --> 04:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
04:09 --> 04:10 [SPEAKER_00]: That's taking full accountability.
04:10 --> 04:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Can I say this about going on the road?
04:11 --> 04:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I know not everyone, not all the fans, all the people who listen to us, have the opportunity to go on the road and go see a bunch of ball parks like people, I understand.
04:19 --> 04:20 [SPEAKER_00]: People have jobs.
04:20 --> 04:22 [SPEAKER_00]: They have kids to look after.
04:22 --> 04:23 [SPEAKER_00]: They have mortgages to pay.
04:23 --> 04:27 [SPEAKER_00]: They just can't spend their money to go around to the stadiums totally understandable.
04:27 --> 04:42 [SPEAKER_00]: Can I just say like the perspective you get talking to people from other who work for other teams, players for other teams and just getting sort of like a perspective that you can bring back and talk about the mariners with.
04:43 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
04:44 --> 05:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's been something that I've realized that this first day at the part will elaborate on that like what do you mean well people have different measures of success people have different measures of accessibility and communication and it really sort of puts in perspective what we deal with mostly on a day-to-day basis.
05:05 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_01]: That's fair.
05:06 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean shout out the Rockies man.
05:07 --> 05:08 [SPEAKER_01]: The Rockies have been great.
05:08 --> 05:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Like everybody we met with the Rockies and and worked with with the Rockies and talk with the Rockies both staff and and a bunch of the players.
05:15 --> 05:15 [SPEAKER_01]: They're awesome.
05:15 --> 05:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know it hasn't been exactly not just the greatest season for him, but the greatest, you know.
05:22 --> 05:23 [SPEAKER_01]: wild for them.
05:23 --> 05:27 [SPEAKER_01]: You can stretch it back every many years you want, but it is a bunch of really good people in that org.
05:28 --> 05:36 [SPEAKER_00]: They're 20 games under five hundred, but if you were standing around the team, we're talking to some of the team employees or seeing the fans in the ballpark today, you'd have no idea.
05:36 --> 05:38 [SPEAKER_01]: No, a lot of pretty, a lot of pretty upbeat people.
05:38 --> 05:39 [SPEAKER_00]: And of course, field gorgeous.
05:39 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_00]: It's potentially by design.
05:41 --> 05:44 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, course field is very similar to team mobile park.
05:45 --> 05:53 [SPEAKER_00]: We're doing a walk around I honestly am putting that park right up on whatever level I put team mobile park on it's not a classic stadium It's what about 30 years old.
05:53 --> 06:06 [SPEAKER_00]: It has a lot of the very same features that team mobile park does it has a lot of different food options It is a lot of different beer options is it'll it has a lot of different scenery options on multiple levels They have a beer garden with a bunch of people not watching the game
06:07 --> 06:16 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean shout out the bullet bar up in right field gorgeous view very cool angle the ballpark a lot of people are up there a lot of people are enjoying themselves It's fun time.
06:16 --> 06:19 [SPEAKER_01]: We like to walk it around up there, but yeah people are watching.
06:19 --> 06:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I would say that's a pretty similar dynamic to a certain area and left center field a team Mobile park and it's clear the Rockies on a Tuesday night can pack out the ballpark against the cubs and people are there to enjoy the game And it's just perspective you get to see the other side of the coin for some people where
06:36 --> 06:41 [SPEAKER_00]: If the Mariners were 20 games under 500, the ballpark would not be full, people would not be in a good mood.
06:42 --> 06:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no.
06:42 --> 06:44 [SPEAKER_01]: It would, people would not be shown up to the game.
06:44 --> 06:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Because now, I mean, especially the last five years with the Mariners, there's been an expectation, so yeah.
06:49 --> 06:51 [SPEAKER_01]: And if they were way under 500, like the Rockies,
06:52 --> 06:52 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
06:53 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_00]: I think you will be furious.
06:55 --> 06:55 [SPEAKER_00]: We'd be furious.
06:55 --> 06:56 [SPEAKER_00]: That's for sure.
06:57 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and listen and listen to this perspective.
06:59 --> 07:02 [SPEAKER_00]: So we just gave the rocky perspective of this.
07:02 --> 07:08 [SPEAKER_00]: We were talking to someone on the cubs today who told us that they didn't think the cubs were having a very good season this year.
07:09 --> 07:11 [SPEAKER_00]: The cubs have two less wins than the Mariners.
07:12 --> 07:13 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the cubs are over 500.
07:14 --> 07:20 [SPEAKER_00]: But the way it was framed was the cubs are in like last place and in like eight games under five on.
07:20 --> 07:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we heard that and we had to check the standings were like, I could have this wrong, but aren't the cubs playing some decent ball?
07:26 --> 07:30 [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, yeah, they're 34 and 32 and they're 4 and 6 and they're last 10.
07:30 --> 07:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's nothing to be like.
07:32 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_01]: furious about.
07:33 --> 07:38 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not it's not been a great season for them, but I mean, some of their stars are not hitting.
07:39 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I get it.
07:39 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_00]: They're in a tough division with a really good brewers team and a cardinal team that's been better this season and same with the pirates, but I mean, there's still a long way to go.
07:48 --> 07:52 [SPEAKER_00]: They're not they're not like the Metz who are 15 and a half games behind the braves right now.
07:52 --> 07:53 [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no.
07:54 --> 07:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Perspective Lyle very very much perspective trips been really fun.
07:59 --> 08:01 [SPEAKER_01]: And again, maybe you guys don't care about that at all.
08:01 --> 08:02 [SPEAKER_01]: If not, that's totally fine.
08:02 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_01]: But we like to try to, again, update you guys on us.
08:05 --> 08:06 [SPEAKER_01]: What we're doing our own lives.
08:06 --> 08:10 [SPEAKER_01]: We said as we went into 2020, six this year, we wanted to try to do more of that.
08:10 --> 08:11 [SPEAKER_01]: So here is us doing that.
08:12 --> 08:14 [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to just hear about the mariners, well, here we go.
08:14 --> 08:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Because in a topsy, turvy, turvy, oh my god, I can't even talk.
08:20 --> 08:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Topsy, turvy whirlwind type away.
08:24 --> 08:26 [SPEAKER_01]: one of the first two games against the Orioles.
08:27 --> 08:31 [SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't call it what we want, but I wouldn't call it clean, but they won the first two.
08:32 --> 08:41 [SPEAKER_00]: It really pains me to come into these podcasts where they've won the first two games this year, especially on a Wednesday as we record Tuesday after the game.
08:41 --> 08:45 [SPEAKER_00]: They've won the first two games of the series, and all they want to do is complain.
08:45 --> 08:46 [SPEAKER_00]: It's like no, no, no, no, no.
08:46 --> 08:49 [SPEAKER_00]: That's not what I would want to listen to, so I'm not going to complain.
08:50 --> 08:51 [SPEAKER_00]: the that's not something I want.
08:52 --> 08:53 [SPEAKER_00]: So let me start off on a positive note.
08:53 --> 08:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I do have some complaints that we will get to them.
08:56 --> 08:59 [SPEAKER_01]: It just won't only be completely stopped lying.
08:59 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_01]: We're not going 30 straight minutes of positivity here.
09:01 --> 09:02 [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever.
09:02 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_00]: No, we can't because this Mariners team may be like the cubs are far from perfect and they make.
09:09 --> 09:12 [SPEAKER_00]: They make the viewing experience very rocky.
09:13 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_00]: It is up and down and up and down.
09:15 --> 09:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, in this Baltimore series of ask clenching.
09:20 --> 09:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
09:20 --> 09:22 [SPEAKER_00]: That's the kind of special here on Tuesday night.
09:23 --> 09:24 [SPEAKER_00]: But I want to put out this statement here.
09:25 --> 09:35 [SPEAKER_00]: This man, Randy Arozerana, managed to, manages to take me to the mountain top and the down into the pit of the valley, seemingly every single game it literally never fails.
09:35 --> 09:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Even between the last podcast we did in this one, this man managed to get picked off twice in a game where Lala are sitting there in the airport flying down here.
09:45 --> 09:47 [SPEAKER_00]: fuck is this guy doing?
09:47 --> 09:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it keeps happening because it happened in the Detroit series, right?
09:52 --> 09:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
09:52 --> 10:00 [SPEAKER_01]: He does it again in the Oriental series on a back pick and then he gets thrown out trying to steal second base and we're like Randy Come on.
10:00 --> 10:04 [SPEAKER_01]: These are totally avoidable Fixable mistakes.
10:04 --> 10:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Why are you getting thrown out on a back pick at first base?
10:08 --> 10:09 [SPEAKER_00]: the stolen bases are nice.
10:10 --> 10:14 [SPEAKER_00]: It has been a valuable part of Randy's game this season, but the pickoffs have been too high.
10:15 --> 10:23 [SPEAKER_00]: It needs there needs to be a higher efficiency of stolen bases without getting picked off and and sometimes again getting picked off is just a lack of focus.
10:23 --> 10:25 [SPEAKER_00]: It's are are you totally dialed in on the picture.
10:26 --> 10:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Everything the picture can do not just when he goes to home plate when you're there on first base and.
10:32 --> 10:38 [SPEAKER_00]: We have not gotten to the point this season or Randy has been picked off as say the tying or winning run and the Mariners go on to lose the game.
10:39 --> 10:41 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm hoping we don't get to that point.
10:41 --> 10:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
10:42 --> 10:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's hope.
10:43 --> 10:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that all being said.
10:46 --> 10:49 [SPEAKER_01]: This man has been far in a way the best player on the Mariners offense.
10:50 --> 11:10 [SPEAKER_01]: So everything we just said, the other side of that coin is he has just been an absolute catalyst and he bailed the Mariners out to put another win in their back pocket here on Tuesday because as the game gets blown in the 9th inning and goes to extras, what does he do in the 10th, he takes a ball from Rico Garcia that was way off the plate and muscles it out the other way for a homer.
11:12 --> 11:19 [SPEAKER_00]: It's amazing that he's going to be the one representing the position players in in Philadelphia and he very much deserves that.
11:20 --> 11:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe Julio gets there too, but oh, yeah, Randy's going to be there, man.
11:25 --> 11:28 [SPEAKER_01]: You look at the Mariners all stars at least is where it stands right now.
11:29 --> 11:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Randy's going to get there.
11:31 --> 11:31 [SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.
11:33 --> 11:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it just I can't believe.
11:36 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_00]: that we've gotten to this point where Randy Rosarana is sort of controlling the emotion or emotions watching a Mariners game.
11:44 --> 11:54 [SPEAKER_00]: It's not cow, it's not, it's not, it's not Julio, I mean Julio sometimes, but not all the time, it's Randy Rosarana.
11:55 --> 11:58 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been he's been that good with the with the stick at the plate.
11:58 --> 11:59 [SPEAKER_01]: He's been that good.
11:59 --> 12:01 [SPEAKER_00]: And it's just not even been really honestly that close.
12:01 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's had a right now.
12:02 --> 12:05 [SPEAKER_00]: He's at a 141 WRC Plus.
12:05 --> 12:10 [SPEAKER_00]: JP is the next closest currently hurt, which we can talk about at a 126.
12:10 --> 12:12 [SPEAKER_00]: And then who is at a 119 nailer's at a 102.
12:13 --> 12:15 [SPEAKER_00]: And then Cole Young among qualified hitters is at a 98.
12:16 --> 12:17 [SPEAKER_00]: it's like it's not even close.
12:17 --> 12:17 [SPEAKER_00]: No.
12:18 --> 12:20 [SPEAKER_00]: This is what we were thinking Cal Raleigh was going to do.
12:21 --> 12:32 [SPEAKER_00]: But instead it's Randy Arrows Arena sort of taken the reins offensively, which is very nice, but it is coming with these just infuriating moments as a fan, which leaves me just so conflicted.
12:32 --> 12:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that doesn't even factor in the defense, which we haven't talked about, which can also be an absolute roller coaster out in the left field.
12:39 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it
12:41 --> 12:52 [SPEAKER_01]: roller coaster is the best way to describe the game of Randy Rosarena because like you said, it takes you to the highest of highs, like when he hits a go ahead home run in extra innings to essentially secure win.
12:52 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_01]: And then there's ridiculous routes that he takes to a baseball that lead to extra bases in the field.
12:57 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And there's getting picked off on the base pads and you know, there's some battery just stands up there and just doesn't swing.
13:03 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_01]: But look, production's production and what has Randy been your best offensive player.
13:09 --> 13:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's hit on some more positives.
13:12 --> 13:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Another positive from this week had nothing to do with the big leaks.
13:15 --> 13:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Cal hit two home runs here on Tuesday down in AAA.
13:18 --> 13:23 [SPEAKER_00]: I have the, I don't think they're gonna fly him out to Washington.
13:23 --> 13:28 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the will keep him in the state of Washington for the remainder of the week.
13:28 --> 13:37 [SPEAKER_00]: But I would honestly think, given how the timelines going, I think Cal rallies going to be back in a Mariners uniform when they returned home against Baltimore on Tuesday.
13:37 --> 13:39 [SPEAKER_01]: You would hope by the time the homestand starts, he's ready.
13:39 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
13:40 --> 13:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Feels that way, especially if he gets another handful of rehab games in this week.
13:43 --> 13:44 [SPEAKER_00]: And he's been catching.
13:44 --> 13:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
13:44 --> 13:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think I believe he was catching today and we didn't see any news that it didn't go well.
13:49 --> 13:52 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, we saw him at a grand slam in a home run.
13:52 --> 13:53 [SPEAKER_01]: It seems pretty good.
13:54 --> 13:54 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
13:54 --> 13:57 [SPEAKER_00]: So that's a pretty big positive for the Mariners.
13:57 --> 14:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I will say to everybody that's been in our comments or been online over the first two months of the season, that said they want to Cal Raleigh sent down to AAA.
14:06 --> 14:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, here you go, he's down in AAA and he's way too good for the league as expected.
14:11 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_01]: He hit a grand slam in a home run.
14:14 --> 14:24 [SPEAKER_00]: A speaking of minor leagues, you pointed out to this, you know, these are not his double-aid numbers, but Brock Moore has been good in AA after his promotion.
14:25 --> 14:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's going to be that much longer before we see Brockmore and the Mariners Bullpen.
14:29 --> 14:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Number one, Brockmore is a Buddhism right now.
14:31 --> 14:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
14:32 --> 14:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Number one, Brockmore is a much older prospect.
14:35 --> 14:37 [SPEAKER_01]: He's 26 years old in AA.
14:37 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_01]: He's perfectly the right age to be a bullpen arm right now.
14:40 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_01]: You want to get him the endings.
14:41 --> 14:46 [SPEAKER_01]: You want to make sure he's developed, but I think we see him here and probably the next month.
14:46 --> 14:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't be shocked if we see him before the All Star Break.
14:48 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I would certainly expect to see him before the trade deadline because
14:53 --> 15:00 [SPEAKER_01]: that is a live arm that is striking out a lot of badgers and minimizing damage that the Mariners could use here in the long run when they need more bullpen arms.
15:00 --> 15:04 [SPEAKER_01]: So you want another positive, there are reinforcements in the bullpen coming.
15:05 --> 15:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Even though you still need arms on the open market at the deadline because you need to go get true leverage arms, there is some internal options coming because Brock Moore is really throwing it well.
15:14 --> 15:38 [SPEAKER_00]: five and a third innings 40% strikeout right the walk rate is high but it's only been five innings so take those with a grain of salt the stuff certainly is playing up in double-eye for Brockmore one ever at this year where he's got more the bulk of work I mean he wasn't walking anybody five percent nobody a 17% walk rate in five innings could be like three batters right which is really high I mean I think the biggest positive
15:43 --> 15:57 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, could be how many in a row right now, if they just, well, not in a row, but if they went on Sunday, you know, they could really be on a heater here, but unfortunately, you know, they didn't win that one.
15:57 --> 15:58 [SPEAKER_00]: No, they didn't.
15:58 --> 16:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're dealing with situations with their bullpen that I think we need to talk about with this, but before we get to that allow, negativity is incoming for all of you wondering, let's pause here for an ad.
16:11 --> 16:13 [SPEAKER_00]: If you're in the market for a new home, listen up.
16:13 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_00]: It's likely the biggest purchase you'll ever make and it happens fast.
16:16 --> 16:20 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why you need to act now and schedule an inspection with pretty good home inspections.
16:21 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_00]: They work directly with you, the buyer.
16:23 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Their philosophy is straightforward.
16:24 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Take the time to evaluate the home carefully and explain what you're really getting yourself into.
16:29 --> 16:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Clearly and honestly, no scare tactics.
16:31 --> 16:35 [SPEAKER_00]: No sugar coating, just straightforward information so you can make a confident decision.
16:35 --> 16:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Their reports are detailed, delivered within 24 hours, and easy to understand.
16:39 --> 16:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Clients are encouraged to attend the inspection, ask questions, and truly learn about the home.
16:44 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_00]: And for the realtor's listening, especially those building their business on trust and long-term relationships.
16:49 --> 16:52 [SPEAKER_00]: You know that a thorough inspection protects your reputation too.
16:52 --> 16:55 [SPEAKER_00]: When clients feel informed, they feel confident and well-taking care of.
16:56 --> 16:58 [SPEAKER_00]: And this market, you can't afford gas work.
16:58 --> 17:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Get a professional honest opinion you can trust on your biggest purchase with pretty good home inspections.
17:03 --> 17:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Schedule an inspection today at 253-442-67-07.
17:08 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_00]: That's 253-442-67-07.
17:12 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_00]: You can also go to prettygoodinspections.com slash Marine Lair or scan the QR code on your screen.
17:17 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_01]: And tell them the Marine Lair pod sent you.
17:21 --> 17:41 [SPEAKER_00]: The Mariners have been in a six man rotation allow for eight games as of today and I think what we saw today and I think a little bit of what we were seeing on Sunday as well with Andre's Munoz and the workload that it puts on the bullpen we're really seeing it's it rear-to-head really early.
17:42 --> 17:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and not in a good way now.
17:43 --> 17:52 [SPEAKER_01]: You can read off the numbers, but for a six man rotation and guys being additionally rested, the expectation is you're going to work deeper into games.
17:52 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not really happening right now with the Mariners rotation.
17:55 --> 17:56 [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, not at all.
17:56 --> 17:59 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Mariners right now are overexposing their bullpen.
18:00 --> 18:12 [SPEAKER_00]: because not only are they pitching a man down, which means the other team gets to see the same relievers more often and there's less to mix in, but this also means as with the main concern with this is that they're overusing it.
18:12 --> 18:18 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think the mayor knows see this, but as of right now they're on the road and I don't think they're going to switch up the rotation on the road.
18:18 --> 18:23 [SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't seem likely and they still have all these games to get through, which they said was very important.
18:24 --> 18:32 [SPEAKER_00]: But in terms of pitching deeply, the Mariners rotation has not backed up the Mariners want to pitch deeper into games with a six-man rotation.
18:32 --> 18:41 [SPEAKER_00]: In these eight games with the six-man, they've pitched six-innings, five-and-a-third innings, four-innings, six-and-a-third, six-five-and-two-thirds, five-and-six-innings.
18:42 --> 18:45 [SPEAKER_00]: The average of that comes out to a little bit under six-innings pitched.
18:46 --> 18:49 [SPEAKER_00]: That's low with the talent in the mariner's rotation.
18:49 --> 18:57 [SPEAKER_00]: If you're just rolling out the five man rotation and you were gonna say, this team on average is gonna pitch under six endings of start.
18:57 --> 19:00 [SPEAKER_00]: You'd say, that's kind of low, all this talent.
19:00 --> 19:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
19:01 --> 19:10 [SPEAKER_00]: They're running a six-man rotation with the anticipation that the six-man rotation will be able to get some extra outs away from the bullpen and instead they've done the opposite.
19:11 --> 19:12 [SPEAKER_00]: And now we're hearing every game,
19:14 --> 19:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, open short, opens tired.
19:16 --> 19:17 [SPEAKER_00]: This guy's not available today.
19:19 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's almost like they're a bullpen arm down because they are.
19:22 --> 19:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
19:23 --> 19:33 [SPEAKER_01]: That's why on Monday, again, really good when the Mariners put together on Monday, when it's all said and done, Josh Nailer with a massive grand slam, they end up securing the win to start the series in Baltimore.
19:33 --> 19:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Nailer to do that on Sunday after, or on Monday after the series that we saw on Detroit, yeah, that's nice for Nailer.
19:40 --> 19:42 [SPEAKER_01]: And it was good to see him come up with a really big moment.
19:44 --> 20:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Emerson getting yanked after five innings for Cooper Chriswell when you've got a six-man rotation running in a depleted bullpen and he's Cooper Chriswell now hurt now hurt unlike what Why is he getting yanked after five you have to cover these innings six-man rotation you get the extra days arrest your bullpen is depleted
20:08 --> 20:10 [SPEAKER_01]: and you go to your bullpen after five.
20:10 --> 20:16 [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't Emerson's most efficient outing of his year, but he probably could have gone one more.
20:17 --> 20:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
20:18 --> 20:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't be put three pretty big outs.
20:20 --> 20:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
20:20 --> 20:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't really know why Dan Wilson decided to put the short hook on him.
20:25 --> 20:25 [SPEAKER_00]: No, you.
20:28 --> 20:38 [SPEAKER_00]: That's a good question, I'm wondering the balance here between Dan Wilson and the front office with this because the six main rotation is the front office's decision.
20:39 --> 20:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's 100% the front office is decision to run that blueprint out.
20:43 --> 20:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying after the five innings, that's not the front office is called the yank, the starter out.
20:48 --> 20:51 [SPEAKER_01]: The front office should want these starters to work deep into games.
20:52 --> 20:54 [SPEAKER_01]: that that's the goal of the six-man rotation.
20:54 --> 20:55 [SPEAKER_01]: You are a bullpen down.
20:55 --> 20:59 [SPEAKER_01]: You're putting more on your dominant starters because you have a great rotation to work deeper into games.
21:00 --> 21:03 [SPEAKER_01]: But Emerson got pulled after five innings.
21:04 --> 21:24 [SPEAKER_00]: And if the Mariners are concerned with Emerson's workload, which is something we'll have to talk about come later in the season because Emerson's never thrown 200 innings and he will be pushing a career high innings this year, if he keeps pitching the way he does and they're like, okay, this is an opportunity to take him out of the game early and save his arm a little bit.
21:26 --> 21:45 [SPEAKER_00]: That's something that's more difficult to pull off with a six man rotation, which if again if that's the priority fine, but you cannot run with that and a six man rotation because then you're leaving your relievers out to dry and no better example that was Tuesday night with Jose for air, they're 43 pitches.
21:46 --> 21:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Jose forever should never be throwing 43 pitches an alley.
21:49 --> 21:58 [SPEAKER_00]: I know he was bumpy, but you would think this is a situation where Matt Brash comes in because I think Matt Brash, if they needed him, would have been available in that game.
21:58 --> 22:01 [SPEAKER_00]: I think if it really like broke class, they need to use someone.
22:02 --> 22:03 [SPEAKER_00]: they would have used him.
22:03 --> 22:04 [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't use him in the 10th inning.
22:04 --> 22:08 [SPEAKER_00]: They put our guy Nick in DeVila DeVila.
22:08 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and he closed the game out, but I think if they really needed to use Matt Brash, it's not like he was totally totally totally unavailable.
22:17 --> 22:21 [SPEAKER_00]: What they probably needed to allow was they needed to Brash available for Wednesday's game.
22:21 --> 22:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
22:22 --> 22:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Because they knew, all right, we burned Spire here.
22:25 --> 22:26 [SPEAKER_00]: We're burning definitely burning for rare here.
22:27 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna need Brash and Munoz to pitch a Brash Munoz in Pazardo to pitch in Wednesday's game because those are the only guys really we have available.
22:38 --> 22:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, for rare's now gonna be down for at least two days.
22:41 --> 22:42 [SPEAKER_01]: It could be three days.
22:43 --> 22:45 [SPEAKER_01]: He could be out for the majority of the national series.
22:47 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
22:47 --> 22:49 [SPEAKER_01]: 43 pitches with no off days coming.
22:51 --> 22:52 [SPEAKER_00]: not great.
22:52 --> 22:53 [SPEAKER_00]: That's, it's not great.
22:53 --> 23:01 [SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's shooting up every red flag we could have imagined with a six-man rotation where your bullpen is just not cut out for it.
23:01 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_00]: And we had issues with the Mariners depth and their bullpen at the beginning of the season.
23:06 --> 23:14 [SPEAKER_00]: And now with them pitching down a man and them having to lean on these guys a little bit more, it just doesn't really feel like this is the right option.
23:14 --> 23:16 [SPEAKER_00]: It never has felt like the right option and watching it play
23:21 --> 23:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
23:22 --> 23:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Agreed.
23:23 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Let me stop there though and give a little bit of context because if I'm listening to this conversation and I can hear the way it's going, I can also get into the heads of some of our listeners and watchers and I'm guessing there's at least a few people out there of not more who are saying all you guys did for weeks was complain and rant and rave about the piggyback and now you're ranting and raving about the six man rotation.
23:47 --> 23:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Let me be very clear.
23:48 --> 23:52 [SPEAKER_01]: If you're forcing us to pick between the two, we're still picking the six-man rotation.
23:52 --> 23:54 [SPEAKER_01]: The piggyback was a complete disaster.
23:54 --> 23:56 [SPEAKER_01]: We're not talking about from the run prevention standpoint.
23:56 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_01]: That was good because it obviously, you know, if you just want to look at the box score as fine.
24:01 --> 24:03 [SPEAKER_01]: It was pissing off your entire clubhouse.
24:03 --> 24:05 [SPEAKER_01]: It was going to spiral things in a way you don't want them to spiral.
24:05 --> 24:07 [SPEAKER_01]: We wanted that to end as fast as possible.
24:07 --> 24:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Thank goodness it did.
24:09 --> 24:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, we would pick the six-man over the piggyback.
24:12 --> 24:14 [SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't mean we love the six-man either.
24:14 --> 24:14 [SPEAKER_01]: We never have.
24:16 --> 24:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Our vote is to just run the five man out there and tell Louise, hey man, we need you in the bullpen.
24:23 --> 24:25 [SPEAKER_01]: This is the role you're going to be best suited in.
24:25 --> 24:27 [SPEAKER_01]: We have too many starters at this point.
24:27 --> 24:29 [SPEAKER_01]: You are going to be in the bullpen.
24:30 --> 24:40 [SPEAKER_01]: but they are going through a lot of depths and leaping through a lot of hurdles and depleting their bullpen and having to move around to not use brash in this game.
24:40 --> 24:56 [SPEAKER_01]: So you have them in the next game and not use moonios and et cetera and et cetera and having a one arm short bullpen all to just save the feelings of Luis Castillo who's running an ERA that's still way north of five.
24:57 --> 24:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I understand he's been better as of late.
24:59 --> 25:01 [SPEAKER_01]: this does not seem worth it, man.
25:02 --> 25:05 [SPEAKER_01]: It just does it, and it certainly does not feel sustainable for the rest of the year.
25:06 --> 25:06 [SPEAKER_00]: It does not.
25:07 --> 25:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Do we have a feeling what they're going to do after the six man rotation or after they get through the 16 game stretch and they to their words said they're going to reevaluate this.
25:17 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_00]: There's three options.
25:18 --> 25:20 [SPEAKER_00]: They can keep the six man rotation.
25:20 --> 25:23 [SPEAKER_00]: They can go back to a piggyback or they can move someone to the bullpen.
25:23 --> 25:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I unfortunately as much
25:26 --> 25:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Totally emphasize and support Lyle's argument here 100% agree with him.
25:31 --> 25:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't see them moving Luis Castillo to the bullpen.
25:34 --> 25:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah When then you got it.
25:38 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_01]: You cannot do this all year and by the way you want to talk about the positives We were hitting on at the start of the episode here's another positive that ties into this conversation
25:48 --> 25:50 [SPEAKER_01]: How much fucking longer can K to Anderson stay in AA?
25:51 --> 25:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Visiting.
25:52 --> 25:54 [SPEAKER_01]: This is getting ridiculous at this point.
25:54 --> 25:56 [SPEAKER_01]: If you were to tell me tomorrow, the mariners are calling you up.
25:56 --> 25:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I'd be like, all right.
25:58 --> 25:59 [SPEAKER_00]: And his last two starts.
25:59 --> 26:03 [SPEAKER_00]: He has a strike a rate of over 50% and he has not walked a single batter.
26:04 --> 26:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Jeff Passen was on Brock and Solk on Tuesday and said, this is maybe the best run, or at least one of the best runs.
26:12 --> 26:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I've ever seen from a minor league pitcher.
26:14 --> 26:15 [SPEAKER_01]: And he said, not this year.
26:18 --> 26:19 [SPEAKER_01]: How much longer can this go on?
26:19 --> 26:23 [SPEAKER_01]: So again, man, this is not even a six man decision.
26:23 --> 26:25 [SPEAKER_01]: You're gonna have to make a call on at some point.
26:25 --> 26:28 [SPEAKER_01]: You've got seven guys you've got to make a call on at some point.
26:29 --> 26:30 [SPEAKER_01]: How does Louise survive this?
26:30 --> 26:36 [SPEAKER_01]: You are going down a road and all roads lead to Louise Castillo being in the bullpen one way or another.
26:37 --> 26:42 [SPEAKER_01]: If you are not putting out malpractice, if you are not partaking in malpractice,
26:43 --> 26:45 [SPEAKER_01]: all roads at some point lead to Luis Castillo going to the bullpen.
26:46 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_00]: So when an argument of starter depth goes out the window, if you move Luis Castillo in the bullpen, because Kate Anderson's ready.
26:54 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_00]: But that was the made, that's the main pushback.
26:56 --> 27:01 [SPEAKER_00]: We don't want to burn through our starter depth, which I thought was a fair, it's that is a fair argument.
27:02 --> 27:06 [SPEAKER_00]: You do need starters over the course of a six month season, but Kate Anderson's ready now.
27:07 --> 27:09 [SPEAKER_00]: So you don't need two major
27:11 --> 27:22 [SPEAKER_00]: But also, you can't, you can't, if you want because yes, would it be harder to stretch out Luis Castillo if he's in the bullpen and you need two starters in your rotation?
27:22 --> 27:23 [SPEAKER_00]: It would be a little bit harder.
27:24 --> 27:25 [SPEAKER_00]: but you could still do it.
27:26 --> 27:29 [SPEAKER_00]: It might take a week or two, but you can do it, man.
27:29 --> 27:33 [SPEAKER_00]: You can get them up to four to five innings and then then go from there.
27:34 --> 27:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I really do think so.
27:35 --> 27:42 [SPEAKER_00]: And if you need the brake glass like we need an instant starter, K&A Anderson's ready, he's, he's a big league starter pitching in AA right now.
27:42 --> 27:43 [SPEAKER_00]: That's just, that's just the name of it.
27:43 --> 27:50 [SPEAKER_01]: And if you really, really in a pinch, needed one start, then okay, you call Casey Lawrence up from Triple A for one start.
27:50 --> 27:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, while Louise is working his way back
27:54 --> 27:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I just couldn't help but think about that this week.
27:56 --> 27:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, do it.
27:57 --> 28:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, next year you're going to have nine starters.
28:00 --> 28:02 [SPEAKER_01]: You have to make a call on and we've talked about that.
28:03 --> 28:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Between Gilbert, Wu, Kirby, Bryce, Luis, Hancock, Cade, Sloan, Logan Evans, it's nine.
28:11 --> 28:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And next year is going to be a whole different conversation.
28:13 --> 28:14 [SPEAKER_01]: But even right now,
28:15 --> 28:17 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm transitioning the conversation.
28:17 --> 28:20 [SPEAKER_01]: This is not a six-pitcher thing any longer.
28:20 --> 28:21 [SPEAKER_01]: There's no longer a six-pitcher thing.
28:22 --> 28:25 [SPEAKER_01]: This is a seven-pitcher conversation, cause Kate Anderson's now in this mix.
28:27 --> 28:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I saw this argument brought up today online.
28:29 --> 28:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I think this would be a good exercise to play here on the podcast.
28:32 --> 28:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's see the Mariners decide to go back to a piggyback.
28:35 --> 28:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh God.
28:36 --> 28:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Hypothetically, which picture are they piggybacking?
28:42 --> 28:45 [SPEAKER_01]: It's still Louise that's getting piggyback man.
28:45 --> 28:50 [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, so well, that's an interesting conversation.
28:50 --> 28:53 [SPEAKER_01]: See, again, this is why you need to just roll out your five starters.
28:54 --> 28:57 [SPEAKER_01]: It's Logan, it's woo, it's Kirby, it's Bryce Miller, and it's Emerson Hancock.
28:58 --> 29:06 [SPEAKER_00]: The argument the Mariners would make to us is that if you were to look at the last month, Louise Castillo has been right in the middle of Mariners starters.
29:08 --> 29:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
29:08 --> 29:09 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you could make it.
29:10 --> 29:15 [SPEAKER_00]: There are people online making a case for three different guys to be piggybacked.
29:15 --> 29:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, one is Emerson Hancock for the innings.
29:18 --> 29:22 [SPEAKER_00]: And he has been a little rougher towards the end of starts.
29:22 --> 29:26 [SPEAKER_00]: So they'd say, all right, let's shorten that a little bit.
29:26 --> 29:31 [SPEAKER_00]: One is George Kirby who has been the worst starter in the Mariners rotation the last month by far
29:37 --> 29:39 [SPEAKER_00]: look right.
29:40 --> 29:57 [SPEAKER_00]: It's I'll tell you who can't be can't be Bryce Miller and it can't be Brian whoa no that's that's what I'm saying they like they decide they want to piggyback to keep Louis stretched out like it cannot be Bryce Miller again which means one of those three guys is going to get piggyback.
29:58 --> 30:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, which is why I again I don't think you can go back to that
30:07 --> 30:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Today's the example.
30:09 --> 30:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I would much rather as much as I love our guy Nick.
30:12 --> 30:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I want if Luis Castillo was pitching in 10th inning right there out of the bullpen I've been totally fine.
30:17 --> 30:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
30:18 --> 30:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Like that's that's just something they need.
30:21 --> 30:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, still shout out our guy Nick to Velo who did end up locking down the save today So shout out to him, but
30:29 --> 30:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man, you just can't kick the can down the road with us forever.
30:34 --> 30:36 [SPEAKER_01]: You just can't at some point you need to make a decision.
30:36 --> 30:50 [SPEAKER_01]: By the way, if you want to tie back in the Terriq school, talk a little bit here, you see how tough it is to even make a decision right now with the pictures you have about who goes to the bullpen, who gets piggybacked, who's been the weakest link in the last month.
30:52 --> 30:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of starters to deal with, man.
30:56 --> 31:00 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not advocating that, like, oh, this guy has to get, get off the team.
31:00 --> 31:08 [SPEAKER_01]: You have to trade this guy, but there's a real conversation for getting the best arm in the world, the pitch at the top of your rotation in the postseason in scooble.
31:08 --> 31:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Look at what a headache it's causing you right now.
31:12 --> 31:15 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, even Jeff Passen was hearing about it.
31:15 --> 31:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, dude.
31:17 --> 31:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about that here in a second, but before that lie, just want to tell everybody that tomorrow when this podcast comes out, Blackberry smoke is performing at Emerald Queen Casino 730 PM on Friday, June 12th, so sorry, two days from when this podcast comes out.

32:07 --> 32:07 [SPEAKER_00]: You're on Tuesday.
32:07 --> 32:11 [SPEAKER_00]: I was not expecting to hear Jeff pass it on Brock and so I'll say yes.
32:11 --> 32:19 [SPEAKER_00]: I had a mirror no's executive text me lials reaction of Terris and say thanks a lot.
32:19 --> 32:21 [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, we do have a couple of people to thank for this.
32:21 --> 32:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Jeff passed the number one for throwing the idea out there.
32:23 --> 32:28 [SPEAKER_00]: And number two, we have to thank Lao Goldstein for ripping a banger of a reaction.
32:28 --> 32:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Listen, I don't claim to be myself smart.
32:31 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't claim to be smart.
32:33 --> 32:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I went to ASU.
32:34 --> 32:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I may not be good with geography.
32:37 --> 32:45 [SPEAKER_01]: I may not know much culture pre-2000, but you know what, man, I feel like I'm half decent at doing these reaction things.
32:46 --> 32:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I see, like,
32:48 --> 33:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't I don't blow my own horn for much and for good reason all I'm gonna say is I feel like I know how to get the people going with these things Yeah, you do and Clearly I got the people going because you and and you know why I can get the people going because that is genuinely in every way How I feel when I see Jeff freakin passing talking about how the mariners should go trade for tarick scooble
33:09 --> 33:29 [SPEAKER_01]: am i gonna be fired all the way up about it fuck yes of course so like when i get on my phone and i go terror like it's real that's real i'm sitting here right now telling you i would go get terror scuba right now and then to hear on Brock and Solk passing talking about that for those who didn't hear it
33:30 --> 33:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Brock and Salk were talking about how many starters the Mariners are going to have next year to manage and it's nine and they said, Hey, shout out our guy, Lyle.
33:38 --> 33:40 [SPEAKER_01]: He just left the show this past week.
33:40 --> 33:48 [SPEAKER_01]: He just put this out and some of the thoughts online about it and passing cuts them off and he goes by the way speaking of speaking of Lyle.
33:48 --> 33:57 [SPEAKER_01]: I had a Mariners executive text me the video Lyle made about Terriq school coming to Seattle and say look what you've done.
34:00 --> 34:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe that's what I'm talking about.
34:04 --> 34:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Shout out to you Jeff Passen.
34:06 --> 34:08 [SPEAKER_00]: The idea is in the Mariners front office right now.
34:08 --> 34:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Good.
34:09 --> 34:11 [SPEAKER_01]: You should go take our idea and capitalize on it.
34:11 --> 34:18 [SPEAKER_01]: And when you do, we'll take a nice, cool, 0% of the earnings that TerriX Google makes this franchise.
34:18 --> 34:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm 100% in for that.
34:22 --> 34:22 [SPEAKER_00]: Great.
34:22 --> 34:23 [SPEAKER_01]: That was hilarious.
34:23 --> 34:29 [SPEAKER_00]: We are always open for consulting to any major league team, especially the Seattle Mariners who needs our opinions on trades.
34:30 --> 34:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Gotcha.
34:30 --> 34:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Clearly, as Passen said, there are quote-unquote people in the organization.
34:34 --> 34:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Same as clip and sending it back to him saying, look what you've done.
34:40 --> 34:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you can say look what you've done.
34:42 --> 34:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I see myself as an ideas man and saying, I'm not just giving you guys some free,
34:50 --> 34:50 [SPEAKER_00]: Readvice?
34:50 --> 34:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Readvice?
34:51 --> 34:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
34:51 --> 34:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Not even charging.
34:52 --> 34:54 [SPEAKER_01]: We're only charging a few acquire scuba himself.
34:54 --> 34:55 [SPEAKER_01]: 0.01%.
34:55 --> 34:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
34:57 --> 35:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I was not expecting to see that here on Tuesday afternoon and evening, but all of a sudden we start getting a bunch of, we start getting a bunch of messages from people saying, you guys listen to pass in today on Brock and so all because he mentioned you and said that your clip got sent to him by people by the mariners and I was like, no, I was like, did somebody have this right?
35:15 --> 35:16 [SPEAKER_01]: It can't be right.
35:16 --> 35:19 [SPEAKER_01]: And then we go and listen and oh, oh, yeah, it was that.
35:19 --> 35:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, it was.
35:20 --> 35:21 [SPEAKER_00]: That was wild.
35:21 --> 35:22 [SPEAKER_01]: That was that was pretty funny.
35:23 --> 35:27 [SPEAKER_00]: All right, one last mariners question for you because this idea has been percolating in my mind this week.
35:28 --> 35:30 [SPEAKER_00]: So I see JP Crawford going on the injured list.
35:31 --> 35:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Cold Emerson's now starting a short stop until he gets off.
35:34 --> 35:35 [SPEAKER_00]: JP was hitting him.
35:35 --> 35:35 [SPEAKER_00]: What in the hand?
35:36 --> 35:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
35:36 --> 35:37 [SPEAKER_00]: That's wise out.
35:37 --> 35:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Bye.
35:39 --> 35:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Framber.
35:40 --> 35:40 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
35:43 --> 35:45 [SPEAKER_00]: At least we got to tell Astro's fans today.
35:45 --> 35:48 [SPEAKER_00]: He's far and away our least favorite Astro of all time.
35:48 --> 35:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know what?
35:49 --> 35:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Those Astro's fans also said, oh, yeah.
35:51 --> 35:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I was more than happy for him to not resign with our team.
35:53 --> 35:55 [SPEAKER_01]: So it's not just Mariners fans.
35:55 --> 35:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
35:56 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I think Framber is a little bit of a tough pill to swallow, which is not breaking any news.
35:59 --> 36:02 [SPEAKER_01]: But I was just going to say that
36:03 --> 36:10 [SPEAKER_01]: along with that, because we were talking about JP getting hurt, Colt will replace him for the most part, but he's been out the last two days.
36:10 --> 36:15 [SPEAKER_01]: That's another storyline, those two-year-old with backspasms or back tightness they called it.
36:16 --> 36:19 [SPEAKER_01]: You would hope it's just a minor thing, but yeah, I don't, I don't love that.
36:19 --> 36:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't love not having cold Emerson on the lineup all of a sudden when you need them with JP Crawford out.
36:23 --> 36:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Meredith in field right now doesn't have a true shortstop in it.
36:27 --> 36:32 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Cole Young played shortstop a lot growing up, but he's been a second baseman for years now.
36:32 --> 36:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
36:33 --> 36:36 [SPEAKER_00]: And he definitely fits more as a second baseman, I think the major league level.
36:37 --> 36:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Now I will say, being out at the field often enough, you do still see Cole take some ground balls at short, often enough, and it's probably just to keep it in the back pocket for exact situations like this.
36:48 --> 36:52 [SPEAKER_01]: So he hasn't, it's not like it's new digs to him all the sudden.
36:52 --> 36:54 [SPEAKER_01]: He still gets his work in there often enough.
36:54 --> 36:57 [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, he's not expected to start regularly there.
36:58 --> 37:03 [SPEAKER_00]: No, do we think this injury to JP though, assuming Cole comes back all healthy,
37:07 --> 37:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's an interesting conversation.
37:10 --> 37:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Would you say it depends on how cold looks in the 10 days or do you think that's not a factor?
37:15 --> 37:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that's a factor.
37:17 --> 37:22 [SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like the org goes, well, like what we've seen from Colt, the short stop, JP.
37:23 --> 37:23 [SPEAKER_00]: Think now is the time.
37:24 --> 37:25 [SPEAKER_00]: And JP offered.
37:25 --> 37:26 [SPEAKER_00]: He does that.
37:26 --> 37:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I'll play, I'll play third base if I need to, him being on the injorless also allows him to sort of ease into playing third or little bit, where he can spend a few days or he's not playing any games or worrying, worrying about having to play games at third base.
37:39 --> 37:49 [SPEAKER_00]: practicing, taking ground balls at third, working with Perry Hill, and then when he's ready, then he can play some third base in a game and maybe feel a little bit more comfortable.
37:50 --> 37:54 [SPEAKER_00]: I think this is about as easy of a transition as you'll get in season.
37:54 --> 37:56 [SPEAKER_01]: It would make sense.
37:56 --> 37:59 [SPEAKER_01]: It is a segue that would really line up, right?
38:00 --> 38:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Because if Colt just starts to get his feet on to a matured and you like what you see, which you should, because he's a pretty good defender over there.
38:07 --> 38:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this is the time you start to see JP moved to third.
38:10 --> 38:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Might not be permanently, there might still be some games where they put JP at short and they put Colt to third.
38:15 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_01]: So it's not just Colt Turkey, oh, you're the third basement here on out and you're never at short anymore.
38:21 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_01]: but it does feel like a decent time to start to move the transition and get it rolling in full steam because the mayor has been talking about this now for the last few weeks.
38:30 --> 38:33 [SPEAKER_01]: They've said, okay, we're gonna start having JPE take more work at third.
38:34 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_01]: With whole now getting the reins for the next two weeks at short stop as long as he's healthy and out there, yeah, I mean, it feels like it could be about the time.
38:42 --> 38:46 [SPEAKER_00]: And JPE would not for to play third based speed and think he could get moved off of short stop.
38:47 --> 38:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I think he knows at this point or in his agency and his agent knows, again, they're not dumb.
38:52 --> 39:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, even if players aren't always looking at all the metrics, their agents certainly know that stuff like the back of their hand, because they have to with their player, and they talk to people around the league.
39:02 --> 39:05 [SPEAKER_01]: And if they're getting the sense that people around the league are saying, yeah,
39:06 --> 39:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how much we pay J.P. Crawford in free agency to play shortstop, then makes all the sense to say, okay, maybe start to learn another position.
39:14 --> 39:24 [SPEAKER_00]: And Stin on the injured list might be the perfect segue into getting him to play some third base and get Colt some everyday reps of shortstop for a week, given he doesn't stay hurt yet.
39:25 --> 39:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that all being said, it is not a good thing by any means.
39:27 --> 39:30 [SPEAKER_01]: The mayor is now lost J.P. Crawford to the I.L.
39:30 --> 39:32 [SPEAKER_01]: because you're already banged up enough
39:34 --> 39:37 [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying J.P. is an all-world catalyst offensively.
39:37 --> 39:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying he's the greatest offensive shortstop in the game, but he does provide a lot for you at the plate, just with the ability to draw the walks and get on base, and he can lean into one and put one over the fence.
39:47 --> 39:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Often enough, he does provide some real stability, either at the top or bottom of the lineup, depending on where he's hitting.
39:55 --> 39:58 [SPEAKER_01]: And without him there, you know, it's not ideal.
39:58 --> 40:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It certainly makes your lineup a lot thinner.
40:00 --> 40:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it does.
40:01 --> 40:04 [SPEAKER_00]: He's been their second best player offensively, right?
40:04 --> 40:05 [SPEAKER_00]: It's just hard to replace it.
40:05 --> 40:06 [SPEAKER_00]: However, that offense is coming.
40:07 --> 40:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully he's only out the minimum 10 days.
40:09 --> 40:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it didn't.
40:10 --> 40:13 [SPEAKER_00]: There were no negative, the X-rays were negative.
40:13 --> 40:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
40:14 --> 40:14 [SPEAKER_00]: So there's nothing broken.
40:15 --> 40:17 [SPEAKER_01]: And they didn't immediately put them on the aisle, either.
40:17 --> 40:24 [SPEAKER_01]: It seemed like they were trying to wait it out and see if he could tough it out, but they decided to short-eye Elstin would be the best case and just let it rest for a bit.
40:24 --> 40:26 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you would hope it's the minimum.
40:26 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Still not ideal to have them out two weeks.
40:29 --> 40:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I want to close out this podcast by telling the story of the mariner fan we ran into at the ballpark.
40:33 --> 40:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
40:34 --> 40:40 [SPEAKER_00]: So, while and I, a little bit of behind the scenes when we're out at the ballpark, especially out in non-mariner settings.
40:41 --> 40:44 [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever we see a mariner shirt is, they were like, oh, oh, sick.
40:44 --> 40:45 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's mariner's jersey.
40:45 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_00]: It's great to see other mariner's fans out in public in in places without a heavy mariner's presence.
40:52 --> 40:54 [SPEAKER_00]: They could chop it up and talk about the mariner's.
40:55 --> 40:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Allow and I have a rule, and I'm curious if anyone else has this kind of rule.
41:00 --> 41:13 [SPEAKER_00]: If we walk past the person wearing a mariners jersey, and this is on the concourse of who was field today, if we walk past this person in the mariners jersey, and it's a griffy jersey, just like, all right, we'll keep walking.
41:13 --> 41:14 [SPEAKER_01]: You let it go.
41:14 --> 41:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:15 --> 41:20 [SPEAKER_01]: Because what we have learned, especially getting outside of Seattle when you see mariners jerseys.
41:21 --> 41:25 [SPEAKER_01]: If it's a griffy jersey, honestly, odds are he's probably not really a mariners fan.
41:25 --> 41:29 [SPEAKER_01]: He is a Ken griffy junior fan and he won of the jersey because he likes the player.
41:29 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_01]: He likes the colors.
41:30 --> 41:33 [SPEAKER_01]: The Mariners really have good jersey designs.
41:33 --> 41:35 [SPEAKER_01]: So we've seen that happen from time to time.
41:35 --> 41:37 [SPEAKER_01]: And early on, we actually got burned with it.
41:37 --> 41:41 [SPEAKER_01]: There were a couple times where we'd see a Mariners jersey and we'd yell out, go ends.
41:41 --> 41:43 [SPEAKER_01]: And then they'd be like, oh, thank you.
41:44 --> 42:06 [SPEAKER_01]: blanks there like I'm not really a mariners fan I just have the jersey and then we see them walking by after the fact and it's grippy and we've learned okay if you have a grippy jersey on there's a decent chance you're not a mariners fan if you have a grippy jersey on outside of the Pacific Northwest right so we walk past this guy and slowly turn around and and look a little bit
42:14 --> 42:19 [SPEAKER_01]: That's a man like that's a man who's fed right there, especially because no one else would wear that.
42:20 --> 42:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, there was a lot of people that got his jersey when he got called up because people were excited.
42:24 --> 42:28 [SPEAKER_00]: There might even be a certain person sitting here who would buy his jersey.
42:28 --> 42:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there might even be a certain person sitting here on camera.
42:30 --> 42:33 [SPEAKER_00]: They got his jersey when he got called up.
42:33 --> 42:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Where's that jersey these days?
42:35 --> 42:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I still have it.
42:35 --> 42:36 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not going anywhere.
42:38 --> 42:39 [SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?
42:40 --> 42:42 [SPEAKER_01]: The mariners need to bring back their light blue spring training jerseys.
42:42 --> 42:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Those are the best jerseys.
42:43 --> 42:44 [SPEAKER_01]: They were awesome.
42:45 --> 42:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the jerseys.
42:46 --> 42:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I have the light blue Jared Calmick spring training jersey because they're sick.
42:51 --> 42:52 [SPEAKER_01]: But we saw that jersey.
42:52 --> 42:54 [SPEAKER_01]: We're like, oh, yeah, that's what that's a real marathon.
42:54 --> 43:02 [SPEAKER_00]: So if any of you listening to this ever see a Jared Calmick mariners jersey out in public, just know, the Brewer podcast says that is a mariners thing.
43:03 --> 43:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Correct.
43:04 --> 43:06 [SPEAKER_01]: And on that, I think that's a perfect way to end the show.
43:06 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_01]: So that'll wrap up this edition of the Marine Lair pod cast.
43:09 --> 43:10 [SPEAKER_01]: You guys know the drill.
