The Marlins are also making everyone reportedly available for trade. Could that

[00:01:42] lead to a Mariners trade for Luis Ariz or others? We'll investigate. Yeah, whether it's Paul Seawalled, whether it's Cal Raleigh, whether it's now my personal favorite Jared Kalnich, somebody's always cooking something up, aren't they? Today though, I was expecting a little bit more out of Jared and I came away from it with a, it's just kind of a giant nothing burger of the, the, the flashy quotes he had

[00:03:01] out there.

[00:03:02] I think the one that stuck out the most of people were, was, Hey, like, I can be totally wrong and he could have sounded no different than he usually does. I just thought maybe somewhere in that tone of voice listening to him talk with the guys on Valor territory that he might have just had a little bit of extra pep in his step. And I don't know if that has to do with him being a brave or not, but just got me thinking. I think there is an extra pep in his step. He might not, maybe his vocal cords don't emulate

[00:04:23] that he has an extra pep in his step,

[00:04:25] but I think we covered everything, you, dog, I know it breaks your heart for me to have to say these words to you. But Jared Kellnick is no longer significant part of our future. Unfortunately, he's not. And you know what? You know how I respond to that? Thank you very much, Evan White. Hmm. Thank you. Thank you, Evan White.

[00:05:41] Even though I'm being sarcastic, because as you said, that contract may or may not have be kind of like Anthony Desclafani of what they think of Desclafani right now. And then as the season gets closer, they're going to shorten him up a little bit. So he kind of sounds like a swingman. He's been a swingman in his career. He started in a bunch in 2022 and 2023. He pitched primarily out of the bullpen, missed two months with elbow issues before he got

[00:07:03] shut down and got released off of the Orioles roster.

[00:07:07] So there's some a reason. And when you look at both numbers, you just wanna go on baseball reference and say, oh, is he already not that great? I would encourage you to look further because that's what happened with Justin Topa. That's what happened with Gabe Spire. That's what happened with Taylor Sausado.

[00:08:21] With Paul Seawall, the list goes on and on and on.

[00:08:24] So what do we do?

[00:08:25] We look a little further with both.

[00:08:26] And the thing that stands out is the spin rate That's kind of weird. If you were to have a 97th percentile spin, that's not going to equal 31% below league average. It doesn't even matter where you throw the ball. It's just physics simply would not allow that like this. We're back in physics class. Do you pay attention physics? No, I actually know the answer to that question. No, you did not know. Not only does not only does everybody know I just despise taking high school classes,

[00:09:44] I think science was my worst subject to like if you want to pinpoint what like pick your He's only making a million dollars. This only bumps the Mariners payroll up to about $118.5 million. By the way, still leaves them with plenty of room to go make more, in fact, significant moves to conclude the soft season. But I digress. That's not the point of this segment. He is a Seattle guy as well that probably helped him come back home. He pitched her Kentwood high school as a former fifth round pick out of UW.

[00:11:02] So he adds to a list of about 11 or go down. The Mariners all of a sudden have two arms. They'd be like, sure, you want them. We'll take some back. Why not? We have two starters that are ready to go, not including Emerson Hancock, not including the other two young arms in the rotation. Why don't you take Austin both? Take Anthony Descoffani and they have those options to trade as

[00:12:22] well if they don't get traded before then.

[00:12:24] Yeah, we've got

[00:13:44] a couple people ask, oh, are you guys going to get down to spring training at all when in just a second here because before we do that, let's pause to talk about our friends from Pagachas Pub85. [00:17:24] roster last year, they just never seemed to keep any of them around. And what report came out this week?

[00:17:27] It was reported the Marlins are willing to listen to offers on every guy on their team,

[00:17:34] except for Yuri Perez.

[00:17:35] Yuri Perez, 2021 year old starter, right hander.

[00:17:38] He's absolutely electric.

[00:17:39] I wouldn't trade him either if I were them.

[00:17:41] But everybody else said they will at least listen to offers.

[00:17:44] And that includes Mr. batting champion himself, Louisa rise. He had four season he had pitched in parts of four seasons before the before the the Marlins traded him like that's that's a pretty significant price of not only a young pitcher But a young proven pitcher as well for Luis Horizon it turned out to work to work out great because Luis Horizon was awesome for the Marlins last season

[00:19:04] It makes too much sense. It makes it makes So you're giving up a league minimum contract for an $11 million contract. So that would put you at $129 million with a hundred and full, they'll say 145 cap. That gives you $16 million more. So Blake Snow, probably not, probably not. You do have some depth at that point, though with Anthony Descoffani and Austin Voth.

[00:20:25] So let's do it.

[00:20:27] Okay.

[00:20:28] Let's do this again. get worth their time. Okay, so off the top of my head, Alberto Rodriguez. Someone from eight to 15. Okay, yeah. Well, that would still be worth it, especially if you were gonna get Luis Horizon Blake Snell. So I would do that. I think if I were the Mariners,

[00:21:40] well, first off, you have to at least call.

[00:21:43] And if you're the Mariners,

[00:21:45] what are you still looking at?

[00:21:46] What did Justin Hollander say?

[00:21:47] We still need to be a power hitter? Yeah, I guess not. I mean, WRC plus says otherwise, right? Okay. Let's let's not let's scrap that. Do this again. Arise at one.

[00:23:00] JP it to sure.

[00:23:01] Julio at three.

[00:23:02] Calate four.

[00:23:03] Garber at five.

[00:23:04] Rayley at six.

[00:23:06] Tye at seven.

[00:24:05] combination there at the top. Louis surises not a guy who's going to walk a lot. But the thing you see like balances a 5% walk rate also with a 5% strikeout rate and extreme

[00:24:10] contact rate. This dude makes so much contact. You might look, well, TJ doesn't really hit

[00:24:16] the ball that hard. He doesn't need to because you don't need to hit the ball the hardest.

[00:24:20] You just need to hit it in the rights when batting average was everything and contact was everything. Nobody cared about walk right back then. Nobody cared about WRC+, obviously, back then. Although it's funny I say that. I say, I say a rise to such an old school player as if he wasn't putting up a high weighted runs creative plus. He still was. He was a lot. That's fine. Yeah. I mean, hopefully Perry Hill was just work with him and even if he's not playing goal glove defense and hope, you know, he even got back to league average defense in second base. Yeah, you take it with the bad. He's still a three and a half four one guy. His range stinks, but DRS

[00:27:02] thinks he's actually an above cheap franchise to another slightly less cheap

[00:28:22] franchise. So don't set your expectations too high there,

[00:28:24] Luis.

[00:29:22] and the strikeouts can get up there. Power is power.

[00:29:23] And he hits the ball with serious authority.

[00:29:26] So I don't know if the Marlins would trade him or not

[00:29:28] because they just traded for him,

[00:29:30] but they say everybody but Yuri Perez,

[00:29:32] everybody but Yuri Perez includes Jake Burger.

[00:29:35] It'd be interesting.

[00:29:36] They did and they traded not so insignificant peace to get him.

[00:29:40] They traded Jake Eater.

[00:29:41] So, you know, I would be kind of shocked

[00:29:45] if he was actually dealt in that place. that would certainly make a lot of sense for this team. You know what the Mariners need, Lyle, they need swag. They need flash. They need flair. Not saying there's not any already, but they want to become the swaggiest team in baseball. This is your guy. This is him. They say this guy's him. Jazz chism is him when it comes

[00:31:02] to this. I want the glasses. I want the chains. Now look, when Jazz is playing, he's really good. 2022, he lit the world on fire. He put up a 136 WRC+, the start he got off to was nuts.

[00:32:20] And last year, he came back down to Earth, but you know what?

[00:32:22] He was still above average.

[00:32:23] He was at 103.

[00:32:24] But Jazz Chisholm is still an upgraded second base, especially if you can buy if he is long and hard about that one because then all of a sudden, just depends what the Marlins want. We can't, the Marlins don't care about winning. That's clear. So that makes judging what the value of a trade would be with them a little bit different than some other franchises. Right. I will also warn anybody listening.

[00:33:42] Jazz is another guy that strikes out a lot.

[00:33:44] So the Mariners may have some strikeouts in their lineup again, to the Marlins for giving us some content. Appreciate it, guys. Thank you. Hopefully they can give us some more. If they actually pull off one of these trades, that'd be awesome. We'll see. We mentioned, I mentioned earlier in the episode, there's still a move coming. There has to be one more move coming. I would imagine. Otherwise, people are gonna be pissed. There is still all of that money remaining in the budget. Something's gonna happen.

[00:35:00] A move from a rise would fit there.

[00:35:02] A move for jazz chism would fit there.

[00:35:05] Said Blake Snow, that would fit there too.

[00:36:27] Let's get to speak your mind. I will relay what I haven't yet got to relay. And TJ can chime in whatever thoughts he's already given on local airwaves in Corvallis and reiterate him here. I will say it is very, oh go ahead, did you wanna say something first? Oh, let me just set the scene here for myself. You know that meme with the dominoes, the small dominoes to the big dominoes?

[00:37:40] Who knew that the little domino was Nick Saban

[00:37:43] and everything else that follows after?

[00:37:47] Can I one up you? They were quote unquote ahead of him. Now you know that they all have the same agent. We talked about this last week. Correct. And what does a good agent do? He can manipulate things to make things seem as they make things seem certain but aren't actually it's very possible that Dan Lanning and Steve Sarkeesian were never the first options and all it always

[00:39:04] was Kalen Dabour. It could have been Greg Burn might have thought that Kalen Dabour was I don't want to lose Steve Steve Sarkisian. We just went to the playoff. I got to give him a pay raise too And now Jimmy sexing goes back to Greg Burnett, Alabama is like, okay Now all my business is taken care of oh Mike Norville, too He represents Mike Norville that that happened as well that that one was public And now he goes back to Kaylen divorce. All right Kaylen now's the time now we go interview

[00:40:21] Look what happened my other takeaway from all this is again like when we recorded last week

[00:40:26] I really thought there was a chance he was needed to know. Like he was on Brock and Saul yesterday and he said we put a very good contract offer. And when I hear very good, I think that means at least nine

[00:41:43] in front of him in November. And Kail the money Yeah, it's out It's true Maybe fish ends up being there a little bit longer than two years But it does seem like he has a site set on in Somewhat of the short term going to the NFL and this is gonna be a springboard and you remember, you know where he graduated college

[00:43:05] Yeah with Florida right and who's on the hot seat right now from any school in the country outside of the south and just poach up. Even if they're under contract for another 10 seasons, you want to come here? Your ours. Boom. Done. And that's what it is. It's a feeding frenzy. And I come to think of like how if you're a young fan of college football, how do you grow up to

[00:44:21] attach to anything? Like you and I grew on another, dedicating yourself to another school. It literally doesn't matter. Like contracts do not matter. Your direct deposit hits and that's it. If someone else wants you, you go.

[00:45:42] How broken is that, man? It's, it stinks.

[00:45:44] Again, we're just heading down towards a path of,

[00:45:47] of uncertainty and realignment and bill, et cetera. Missouri, like they're like, sorry, we just don't want to really share with you anymore. That stuff happens. Here's one last conspiracy I will share. I'm kind of owning your, your speaker mind. Yeah, I've already, I've already talked about this so much this week. So I might as well wrap up my thoughts.

[00:47:00] So did you see what the news that came out with the ESPN and the NFL this week?

[00:47:04] You'll have to remind me.

[00:47:05] Yeah, this is turning into the Joe Beaver show here that the NFL is the most prominent league in the NFL. Then we see where this is going. They own the major cash cow, the SEC. And then all of a sudden it's the NFL directly funding the SEC. And then what if the NFL decides, hmm, let's do the same for Ohio State and Michigan. And then it keeps going and it keeps going.

[00:48:20] And then it gets to this wonderful term

[00:48:21] that I learned this week called vertical integration.

[00:48:24] Have you heard of that?

[00:48:25] No. that we could break up the minor league, the minor league college teams into different tiers and promote and relegate them with an actual governing board. Hmm. Yeah, that's a lot to think about. There's a whole lot to think about. Um, man, this went from Kailin to bore to ESPN is about to control the entire

[00:49:41] state of amateur and professional football.

[00:49:44] That doesn't sound fun, but maybe where we're heading, huh?

[00:50:41] school that might have a chance to move up. This is what happens.

[00:50:42] And then it creates this whole turn style of guys in the

[00:50:44] transfer portal and everything.

[00:50:45] Yeah.

[00:50:47] It's in a, it's in a crazy spot.

[00:50:49] Like you said, these five years will be nuts.

[00:50:52] If you want one other thing, that's all my speaker mind

[00:50:54] before we turn it over to you.

[00:50:57] Not like a whole New York update or anything, but as we sit

[00:51:00] and record this podcast just before that, if you want to know

[00:51:04] what I'm up to and good old Yeah, I didn't realize like obviously Mark's really big and he's one of baseball's biggest YouTubers, but work style doesn't count of, of my New Year's resolution, because it is currently 1006 locally on the on the Pacific time zone.
