[00:00:31] We've got a bunch of spring training content for you.
[00:00:33] We're on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter,
[00:00:35] and YouTube shorts at Marine Layer Pod.
[00:00:38] Let's get it rolling. And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Lair podcast, part of the Just Baseball
[00:00:55] Podcast Network recording here on Sunday, March 3rd when you're listening to this
[00:01:01] lie on I will be at spring training.
[00:01:04] But for the time being here on Sunday before we leave,
[00:01:06] we have a lot of really good questions to get to here on this edition of the podcast.
[00:01:12] I do really like the batch of questions we have here today.
[00:01:15] I think for the mailbags, this is the most diverse mailbag episode we've had.
[00:01:22] We got some really good questions.
[00:01:24] Like if you're looking forward to, like you said, diversity and not just some really good baseball questions,
[00:01:29] but creative questions and some non-baseball questions as well.
[00:01:32] You're in for a good one this episode, but, dog, I do have to say, before we start,
[00:01:37] happy birthday.
[00:01:38] Oh, thanks.
[00:01:39] I had a good day on Sunday.
[00:01:40] Thanks, dog. Yeah, not my birthday on Wednesday, but on Sunday, yes. So the Mariners will be
[00:01:46] getting the newest version of TJ, the 26 version of TJ. I don't even know what to expect, to be
[00:01:53] honest, like what they're going to get. But why guess what? See, hey, 26 is the new 21.
[00:01:59] Well, no, judging how my 21 was. Okay, probably not. All right. Well, judging how my 21 was, mmm.
[00:02:05] Okay, probably not.
[00:02:06] All right, well, fair enough.
[00:02:08] I appreciate you looking out for me though.
[00:02:10] Yes, I will say speaking of birthdays,
[00:02:12] when we get down to spring training,
[00:02:14] one of the questions I'm itching to ask,
[00:02:16] this one probably won't even be on social media
[00:02:18] or anything like that, but when we were done recording
[00:02:20] with Dom, with Dom Canzone, we were talking about,
[00:02:23] oh, him and I have the exact same birthday, we're both August 16 1997. And I asked Dom, I said, what time were you
[00:02:29] born at? And he said, honestly, I don't know, I'm going to have to ask my parents and get
[00:02:33] back to you. So when we get down to spring training, I'm going to ask him and see if
[00:02:37] you ever follow it up on that because I'm genuinely curious. I was born like a little
[00:02:41] bit before 5 AM. I'm guessing he wasn't born that early. So yeah, I'm kind of itching to find out
[00:02:46] Yeah, that would be that would be pretty wild. Let's get into these mailbag questions up first
[00:02:52] This is a question we got on Twitter from at a understore
[00:02:57] Underscore Stuart
[00:02:59] 51 the question is Lyle
[00:03:02] Would you rather relive a season through the low-light tapes of 2022
[00:03:07] Jesse Winker or 2023 Colton Wong?
[00:03:11] All recorded outs from the season are on tape.
[00:03:15] Well, there's a couple different ways you could go about this.
[00:03:19] You could think of it as do you put one of these guys on the 2024 roster or do you think
[00:03:24] of it as you're going to go back
[00:03:25] and watch their seasons in the years they were with the Mariners. I looked at it the latter way
[00:03:29] in the sense of Winker in 22, Wong in 23. If it's between those two, I would pick Jesse Winker because
[00:03:36] look, he played some of the worst defense I think we've ever seen in the outfield at T-Mobile Park.
[00:03:41] That being said, he wasn't good at the plate, but technically he was
[00:03:45] above average. I know they traded for him to be a real impact bat. He was not that.
[00:03:49] But he led the American League in walks. His WRC plus was over a hundred. I know Jesse
[00:03:55] Winker stand by any means, but between the two, I think I'd pick Winker because by definition,
[00:04:01] he was slightly above average.
[00:04:03] But who is the more useful player on a baseball team I was trying to think?
[00:04:06] So when my answer to this question is if I were to pick one of these two and actually
[00:04:11] have to physically rewatch their entire season again on this 2024 roster, it would be Colton
[00:04:17] Wong as much as that pains me.
[00:04:19] It would probably it would probably be Colton Wong.
[00:04:22] I don't think I could I could make myself sit down and watch another season of Jesse Winker in the long. I don't think I could, I could make myself sit down and
[00:04:25] watch another season of Jesse Winker in the outfield. I can't do it. I physically cannot watch that
[00:04:30] man try and field another ground ball. So it would, it would unfortunately have to be cold
[00:04:36] long. Now if I were to sit down and just watch the video, it'd be Jesse Winker because I'd be
[00:04:41] laughing my ass off of watching him try to field.
[00:04:47] Okay, but Winker was on a team that got to the playoffs. I'm not saying he was the driving force, but he was on a playoff team.
[00:04:51] We know how frustrating 2023 was for everybody last year.
[00:04:55] So when you look at the teams, you'd have to watch.
[00:04:57] I know the players on each teams weren't that different.
[00:04:59] Like the core was still the same, but I feel like that and the advanced numbers
[00:05:04] of plate, I feel like I'd
[00:05:05] still take winker. I don't know. Like, like, as we've talked about, like Colton Wong,
[00:05:11] I mean, his defense was no gold glove level either last year. I think you're leaving that out.
[00:05:18] No, I mean, no.
[00:05:21] Remember, remember all the times he had to try to relay the ball in on a cut off
[00:05:25] play from, from short in the outfield and he'd like three hop into the plate.
[00:05:29] Yeah, I mean, we could take personality into account here too. I know Jesse Winker wasn't
[00:05:36] the most well liked guy too. So that, that probably doesn't help with the clubhouse chemistry,
[00:05:42] not like in all these, all these leaders on this team, JP, Cal,
[00:05:45] et cetera, like they, you think they look at Jesse Winker
[00:05:48] and like the ultimate form of respect?
[00:05:51] Hmm.
[00:05:52] No, oh, okay, if we're gonna go personality,
[00:05:56] 100% Colton Wong.
[00:05:58] What resonates with me is not just how well liked he was
[00:06:00] and how respected he was.
[00:06:02] Remember when we had Tai Piedon and he said Colton Wong
[00:06:04] sat down with him for a half hour
[00:06:06] and just talked baseball life,
[00:06:08] like acclimating yourself into the big leagues,
[00:06:10] how to handle yourself one day as a big leaguer?
[00:06:12] Oh, we're gonna talk about the human being, the personality.
[00:06:14] Colton Wong, like by light years.
[00:06:17] I wish we'd gotten to know Colton Wong better
[00:06:19] in the time he was here last year, just as the person.
[00:06:21] I know he didn't have a good year, but he seems like
[00:06:23] just an ultimate ultimate ultimate good guy
[00:06:25] So by that by that retrospect for sure. Mm-hmm. So
[00:06:31] Yeah, I think if I just had to sit down and watch should be winker. It'd be winker
[00:06:36] I mean what a unique season and he essentially turned into Raul Obanyas with more walks and less power
[00:06:41] That like that that's pretty impressive
[00:06:47] with more walks and less power. That like that that's pretty impressive. Remember his I will say if you wanted if you wanted quotes to hang on to though it's winker. Remember his interview after
[00:06:53] the double header against the nationals where he said he's going to use Dylan Moore's
[00:06:57] manscape code between games or whatever it was. Yeah.
[00:07:02] And my other favorite Jesse winker moment like my friend Caleb at the time worked at
[00:07:06] a like a sports card shop and he just randomly after a day game was like, Oh, Jesse Winker
[00:07:11] came in today.
[00:07:12] He was like, Oh, super nice guy.
[00:07:14] It's like, well, yeah, it sounds like Jesse Winker was as dedicated to his card collection
[00:07:19] as he was to his, his baseball physique.
[00:07:22] So that was pretty cool.
[00:07:23] I thought that was a kind of random moment.
[00:07:25] Never heard about Colton long going into a sports car. Maybe he's not a collector, not
[00:07:31] like, not like our guy Justin Topa or in this case, like Jesse Winker.
[00:07:35] Hmm. Second question we got in the mailbag, this one's on Twitter. It's from Star Katie
[00:07:40] and he says, this is a unique one. If a sorcerer emerged at a left field and offered you
[00:07:46] a barter which would grant you a super team composed of the best mariners of all time in their prime
[00:07:52] for one season. But if that team failed to win a World Series, you would doom the team and franchise
[00:07:59] to another 20 year playoff draft. Would you do it? Yes. Absolutely. Are you kidding me?
[00:08:09] You what they already missed it without a curse for 20 years. At least if they missed
[00:08:14] it for 20 years in a row this time, you know, there's nothing you can do about it. And you
[00:08:19] know, the other way I thought about this is he essentially just like rehashed what 2001
[00:08:24] was the baseball
[00:08:25] gods came together to create the perfect baseball team for the Seattle Mariners the
[00:08:30] perfect baseball team. And you know what the baseball gods said after the 2001 season.
[00:08:36] Well, now your debt will be paid in a 20 year playoff drought. And that's what happened.
[00:08:43] But how can you possibly say you're okay
[00:08:46] with living through another drought,
[00:08:48] even if you have all these guys on one field?
[00:08:50] Because we're used to it already.
[00:08:52] That's why?
[00:08:53] No, I cannot.
[00:08:55] Because when they tried to make the playoffs
[00:08:57] for 47 years as a franchise, it doesn't work.
[00:09:00] So at least when there's an external power keeping you out,
[00:09:04] you can just kind of shrug your shoulders and know that at least for one season,
[00:09:09] it might be the greatest season you'll ever watch and you'll cherish those memories forever.
[00:09:14] Let me make this as abundantly clear as I can possibly speak.
[00:09:18] I cannot and will not live through another 20 year playoff drought.
[00:09:25] Do you know how long 20 years is?
[00:09:28] As I like to put it, our first day of kindergarten
[00:09:31] until the day we graduated from ASU,
[00:09:33] we saw zero postseason games for the Mariners.
[00:09:36] Not just that time span, it ranged longer than that.
[00:09:40] Our wavelength of thinking on this is totally polar opposite.
[00:09:44] Here's why I said I'm not taking that risk
[00:09:46] The Dodgers exist the Braves exist those guys have super teams every year and
[00:09:52] They don't win the World Series the Dodgers of one one okay the Dodgers won once in 2020 the Braves won in 21
[00:09:58] But the last couple years those two teams have had loaded rosters and lost in the first round
[00:10:04] Those two teams have had loaded rosters and lost in the first round. I'm not putting that to chance, even with Prime Jr. and Prime Edgar and Prime Arod and Prime Randy Johnson.
[00:10:10] I'm sorry, I'm not.
[00:10:12] Because there's teams like the mid-80s when Diamondbacks that still get there.
[00:10:16] I'm not taking that one-year risk on the chance to win the World Series.
[00:10:19] If you know, then you get a 20-year drought following.
[00:10:22] No, I'm taking the chances that they have now, where you can just keep this core together and compete for a playoffs about every year.
[00:10:30] And if you get in, you're starting pitching, you ride with it. No, I'm not taking that risk. I cannot live through another 20 years, dude.
[00:10:45] either the option where you're guaranteed a great team, or we can live in the current reality where the thought of a great team just doesn't even enter the minds of the people
[00:10:51] in control of that.
[00:10:52] Do you think that that way?
[00:10:55] But they could be a good team that gets into the playoffs, whether it's an as an ALS winner
[00:11:01] or wildcard, and they ride their starting pitching and see where it takes them.
[00:11:05] I'm thinking that chance without the guarantee over your head that you are going to miss the
[00:11:13] playoffs for 20 straight years. I'd rather have the chance and the hope to hang on rather than
[00:11:18] knowing, well, you're going to miss for another 20 years. No, I can't. I cannot deal with that. Ah, man, that do it. Like it just that just could, but could you imagine the opportunity
[00:11:30] to live through that 2001 season? Could you think about that? Think of how amazing that
[00:11:34] summer would be. Could you think about that? 116 wins. This team could win more games than
[00:11:40] that. Wouldn't that not be the most fun you've ever had? Okay. But just to get bounced in five games in the ALCS again, the Dodgers won one 10 in 2022.
[00:11:51] I think it was one 10. Then they lost in the first round of the Padres. You know how disappointed
[00:11:56] and miserable you'd be at the crashing end of that season. Like I can't do that. It would be
[00:12:01] really fun. Like I know what Jera Karabas said the other day of,
[00:12:05] oh, it's almost more fun to be a good regular season team than post season team when we had them
[00:12:09] on two weeks ago now. But I can't. But what Karabas is saying is like, year over year,
[00:12:17] you're a good regular season team. The problem is the Mariners would be good one regular season,
[00:12:22] potentially get bounced in the ALDS or ALCS and then
[00:12:25] miss for another 20 years. I'm not putting that to chance.
[00:12:28] Mm hmm.
[00:12:29] Yeah.
[00:12:30] I'm just the thought. Can we just like think of like what the like we built on our our
[00:12:36] social platforms? What the all time starting nine would be because like just think like
[00:12:39] Hey Rod at short Edgar at DH John O'Rood at first prime Brett Boone at second. You have Robinson
[00:12:47] Canoe coming off the bench.
[00:12:50] Nelly off the bench.
[00:12:52] Yeah, Nelly off the bench and the outfield. You're going to have junior J Rod. Oh, J Rod
[00:12:57] probably now.
[00:12:59] Each hero, yeah, Jay Bune are like those would be your four outfielders. Come on. You're telling you don't want that. You tell me you don't want that. Are you guaranteeing that they win
[00:13:09] a world series with that team? Again, let me say again, 01 Mariners 2022 Dodgers and
[00:13:15] the Braves of the last two years. I'm going to ask which team is going to beat prime Randy Johnson prime Felix and then I don't let's who else
[00:13:28] is in that playoff ready Garcia.
[00:13:30] Jamie Marr.
[00:13:31] I mean Castillo Kirby.
[00:13:34] Eddie Edwin Diaz.
[00:13:37] Andres Munoz Matt brash in the bullpen.
[00:13:40] Sasaki Sasaki.
[00:13:41] I don't know.
[00:13:43] 2014 Tom Wilhelmsen would be like the worst member of that bullpen
[00:13:48] Dude
[00:13:50] I can't put it. I cannot put it. I know you're dreaming. I know you're thinking about it. You're thinking about it
[00:13:55] Oh, I'm thinking about a pretty good team to me
[00:13:58] I don't know where I don't know who's beating that team to be a problem that teams better than the O1 Mariners is
[00:14:03] That's for sure.
[00:14:05] Yeah, of course it is because it is prime junior and prime a rod and a bunch of other
[00:14:08] guys in Julio, but I like again guys have off days and if it's collective, they're
[00:14:15] going to lose and they lose they miss the playoffs for 20 years.
[00:14:20] Mm. You know, I think a Rodness Bray tan powers will get it done.
[00:14:26] I think we're gonna have to agree.
[00:14:27] Yeah.
[00:14:28] Unfortunately, I think we are going to have to lightheartedly agree to disagree on this
[00:14:33] because there is there is like no scenario on earth that I would endure another 20
[00:14:38] year playoff drought for.
[00:14:39] I cannot go through that ever again, like bottom line.
[00:14:43] So I think that's where we stand. Okay, before we get to our next
[00:14:48] question, let's talk to you about our friends over at
[00:14:50] Pagachas Pub 85 over in Kirkland. We're going to continue to
[00:14:54] tell you about it because we love to hang out there. They have
[00:14:57] awesome pizza and not just pizza. It's a full food menu. They've
[00:15:00] got a full drink menu. They've got awesome specials. You can go
[00:15:02] play pool. You can go watch the games with your friends. Hey, there's spring training games on sometimes when the
[00:15:08] games are on TV. But with Mariner season coming up, I mean, guys, we're like just a few weeks
[00:15:12] away from it. You want a spot to go watch over there. Hang out with your friends. It's a bunch
[00:15:17] of fun. And if you go during happy hour, you can get you can get yourself some really,
[00:15:21] really great specials too. Those are from Monday through from monday hours from two to six p.
[00:15:26] domestic beers, four dollar
[00:15:29] mac and jacks, four dollar
[00:15:31] house wines. All that is
[00:15:34] Pagoch's Pove 85 in Kirkl
[00:15:36] smell of a warm three day
[00:15:38] sandwich in a wimpy trash
[00:15:41] wimpy wimpy. And this is
[00:15:44] same sandwich
[00:15:45] in a hefty ultra-strong trash bag
[00:15:47] with new Fabuloso Lemon scent.
[00:15:49] Happy, happy, happy!
[00:15:51] Ah, smell the difference?
[00:15:54] When life gives you stinky, get hefty ultra-strong
[00:15:56] with new Fabuloso Lemon scent.
[00:15:58] It smells like clean, freshly picked lemons.
[00:16:01] So no matter what's inside your trash,
[00:16:03] you can stop the stink and smell the lemon. Our third question comes on Twitter from James
[00:16:09] Roberts he says this feels like an obvious one to ask but I'll ask anyways
[00:16:13] how good does Cole Young have to perform to make the team out of camp
[00:16:17] because he's look really good and surely is better for second and third base
[00:16:21] duties than other in-house options I will say, I understand what
[00:16:27] his thinking is long term. I don't think at the current moment with Cole Young having
[00:16:33] played less than 50 games above low A. He is currently suited better than the third base
[00:16:40] options.
[00:16:41] Can I said the bar at 2004 Barry Bonds? If he did that, maybe they would
[00:16:47] consider I was thinking along the lines of like how, how this could work. Do you remember
[00:16:53] Juan Soto's call up? You remember how how small the sample size for him was above low
[00:16:58] way? I think he played 25 games above low way, something like that. I mean, Juan Soto. I think it was last. I thought he played like 10 or 15 games.
[00:17:09] Yeah, it was not very many games and he went up to the big leagues and he was great right
[00:17:13] away. There was no issue for Juan Soto right away. He came up as a 19 year old had a 900
[00:17:18] OPS as a rookie. It is in theory with the Juan Soto comparison possible, but I'm thinking like in terms of spring training performance. I mean, even if he hit 500 and led the cactus league and bombs.
[00:17:33] Like probably still not right like probably like he would they would they'd feel very comfortable about it. But you know, Cole Young hasn't like looking at what Soto did and the kind of numbers he put up like he
[00:17:50] slowed nearly 600 and double A he's slowed over 700 in a plus ball. Like Cole Young hasn't
[00:17:57] done that. So unfortunately, even though he's done very well in the minor leagues, he hasn't
[00:18:02] done well enough to say I'm going to force your guys his hand to put me at the big league level. He could do that this year as a 20 year old
[00:18:08] and go into double A this year and start hitting 340 with a, you know, with an on base percentage
[00:18:14] over 400 and slug say 600, then the Mariners would really have a conundrum on their hands.
[00:18:19] At that point, you sit there and think, okay, are we making our team worse by not putting them on the big league roster?
[00:18:28] As it sits right now, I don't think so.
[00:18:36] I'm sure you just misspoke, but I'm circling back to something. A plus ball that I think you mean high A.
[00:18:39] Like that's the same thing.
[00:18:43] Well, of course it means the same thing, but you may have just coined a new term there. You should you should trademark it.
[00:18:45] A plus boom.
[00:18:46] I can't I don't think I could take ownership for that.
[00:18:48] I don't think I'm the only person who said a plus ball.
[00:18:52] Now, then maybe maybe I'm just living under a rock and that's the first time I've heard
[00:18:56] that saying.
[00:18:58] I would say your thinking is right.
[00:19:01] Also, I'm sure James and the question is just thinking in terms of
[00:19:05] like what the needs were entering the offseason. But obviously, when you think of your second
[00:19:10] and third base options, of course, Jorge Polanco from where we sit is a much, much better option
[00:19:15] at the moment than Cole Young. The only option would be either if Polanco slid to third and
[00:19:22] Young came up and played second, or if Young just started playing more third base and came up as a third baseman. But I think he profiles more as a second
[00:19:29] baseman anyway. And all that being said, you're talking about Juan Soto playing X amount of games
[00:19:35] above Haye, like he played X amount of games in AA. No, Cole Young has only played like less
[00:19:41] than 50 games in Haye every, he has not hit double A yet.
[00:19:45] Once it got called up from double A. So I am all aboard the Cole Young train.
[00:19:49] If you've listened to some of the recent podcasts, you've heard me say, I think
[00:19:53] there's a real world Cole Young gets up by the end of the year.
[00:19:55] I'm certainly sticking by that with the way he's looked so far,
[00:19:58] but to make the camp out of spring training playing about 48 games in high A.
[00:20:03] And that's the highest level he's played at at 20 years old. Just doesn't seem likely. Now, if you want to change the
[00:20:10] or actually go ahead, let me say I was going to say Julio Rodriguez is the second highest
[00:20:14] ceiling out of any prospect the Mariners have ever had behind Ken Griffey Jr. He played an
[00:20:19] entire season in double A before getting called up. He crushed double A, but he played an entire
[00:20:25] season as a 20 year old in double A. I have a hard time seeing Cole Young do it like at
[00:20:32] this moment, doing anything less than that to earn a call up. I think, yeah, I would agree
[00:20:38] with that. Now, I think if he keeps hitting like this, he's not going back to Everett.
[00:20:42] He's just going to start the year in Arkansas. Yeah, but, but he would have to play really well in Arkansas to get
[00:20:49] a call up even at the end of the year, which I think may happen. But I, you just, you can
[00:20:55] skip triple A and go from double A to the major. Some guys do that Julio did it. You've
[00:20:59] seen other guys do it at certain points. Like Evan White did it, but I don't think you
[00:21:04] can go from high aid to the big leagues
[00:21:06] at 20 years old.
[00:21:07] That's just too much of a job.
[00:21:09] So I am very excited to see what Cole Young's done so far this spring.
[00:21:13] I I'm almost positive he's not making the roster at a camp.
[00:21:17] I'll put it like that.
[00:21:20] But if Cole Young goes and crushes AAA this year and the Mariners third base situation
[00:21:25] does not get better like let's say there's injuries or in still once the trade deadline
[00:21:31] rolls around they have to go acquire a pitcher instead of an infielder and third base is
[00:21:35] still a black hole at that point or say Polanco goes over to third and second base at that
[00:21:40] point is a black hole again for what seems like the 20th year in a row, a row without
[00:21:45] Robinson, cano or Brett Boone. Then you make you make that decision of what makes your team better
[00:21:50] in August and September and we can revisit that and then Lyle can parade around this podcasting.
[00:21:55] I told you so I told you so I told you so I was right. Ah, well, I will be doing exactly that if
[00:22:04] Colle Young gets called up.
[00:22:05] I will say though, if they're unsatisfied with what's gone on at third base by the trade
[00:22:10] deadline and young still not up like if Cole Young gets up, for example, tail end of September,
[00:22:15] the Mariners are making a playoff push.
[00:22:17] You see Cole Young get up similar to how some other young high prospects have gotten up that
[00:22:21] way in the past.
[00:22:22] Like remember, Zander Bogart's got up really late in his rookie year and was on the playoff
[00:22:26] roster, or even junior Cam and Arrow for the race last year was one of the top prospects
[00:22:30] in all of baseball, got up really late and was on the postseason roster for Tampa last
[00:22:33] year.
[00:22:34] You might see something like that with Cole Young.
[00:22:36] I was going to say, if it's the trade deadline, you can't trade for a bat and you need a solution.
[00:22:42] I think we might be looking at Tyler Lockley before we see Cole Young.
[00:22:45] And I mean by that, I'm not banking this.
[00:22:49] I'm not banking on this happening.
[00:22:50] But if you want to speculate theories for why Tye Francis starting to not see third base
[00:22:56] reps but have some buzz around him playing more third base again, it's that.
[00:23:02] Lockley is a first baseman and man oh man does he crush baseball.
[00:23:06] So if they think the offense is going to need a spark in July or August, you might see Locklear
[00:23:11] up because that's a college bat who's already been in double A is going to start back in
[00:23:15] double A. And if he hits the way everybody thinks he's going to hit, he may be up midseason.
[00:23:20] What kind of numbers would you need to see from Cole Young to feel comfortable with him
[00:23:23] being on the big league roster this year?
[00:23:25] Like not, like not out of need, not out of forced need, not out of 2021, Jared Kellen
[00:23:30] to call up and save the day on the big league roster only for him to struggle all season.
[00:23:35] Like if you were to feel comfortable calling Cole Young up from double A because you feel
[00:23:40] like he's ready.
[00:23:41] What numbers do that?
[00:23:42] What, what does that look like?
[00:23:44] So AKA, the Mariners have legitimately had their hand force.
[00:23:47] They say this guy cannot be in the minors anymore.
[00:23:49] He needs to help the Big League Club win games.
[00:23:52] I would say 140 to 150 WRC plus
[00:23:57] has to be hitting 300 or above probably.
[00:24:00] It's got to be better.
[00:24:01] Like he's had good numbers in the minor leagues.
[00:24:03] He would need to, I would think need to exceed those numbers this season in the worst hitting environment he'll play in.
[00:24:10] Period in Arkansas. Yeah. I would. You know, his it would be right now is minor league numbers
[00:24:15] despite the 400 on base percentage. The OPS has been anywhere from 800 to 850. And in the minor
[00:24:20] leagues, that's not a 140 150 WRCRC plus. So, especially not in double A,
[00:24:25] it's going to be need to be a little bit higher than that for us to feel more comfortable
[00:24:29] with him coming up. It's possible wouldn't put it past him. He's as talented as could
[00:24:35] be. But for the time being, seems unlikely and I like your loklier thing like at third
[00:24:42] base, that seems like more of a realistic option.
[00:24:45] So we'll have to see it's up to the Mariners to decide what they're going to do here coming
[00:24:49] down the stretch in 2024 if they really need somebody in that spot. Okay. Next question comes
[00:24:55] from Ellie at Tryn Takeover. She sent us this on Instagram. The question is, if you had to choose
[00:25:02] a career outside of sports media, what would you choose?
[00:25:07] This made my skin crawl because we've talked about this on the podcast, but I just hated
[00:25:13] school with a burning passion.
[00:25:15] I wasn't like the disruptive kid in class or anything like that, but I wasn't exactly
[00:25:19] attentive either because I was so bored all the time.
[00:25:22] All I wanted to do was talk about sports.
[00:25:23] So here we are. If I had to pick another career, what I came up with was probably taking the route of going into
[00:25:31] baseball operations, which is we have a couple of friends who are in that field now and really
[00:25:35] like it and really enjoy it. I think if I wasn't talking about sports, it'd probably be that because
[00:25:40] then you're still around baseball all the time. You're around the field. You're around teams.
[00:25:44] You're looking into numbers. You're just around baseball and you're living and breathing baseball.
[00:25:49] I think if I wasn't in sports media, it would probably be that, but it would still have to be
[00:25:53] something in sports. You don't see any possible thing outside of sports that you could do.
[00:26:01] Would you own a gym? Could you own a gym? You may be, but like then you're getting into, I guess we've
[00:26:09] honed some skills in with this podcast that I probably previously
[00:26:12] never really thought we'd have to have like having a little bit
[00:26:15] of marketing skill and sales skills. Like those weren't like
[00:26:18] those are things we do with this podcast that I didn't really
[00:26:21] think I'd ever need back when we were in college. But I think
[00:26:24] it's another level when you talk about owning land property.
[00:26:29] Like that's a lot of work. That'd be great.
[00:26:31] But I mean, I've thought about the whole like, would you be a personal trainer thing?
[00:26:36] Like, like, I don't know.
[00:26:38] I feel like you could do that diet.
[00:26:40] Do you think you could do like be a dietician?
[00:26:43] Because your diet's pretty good.
[00:26:45] Maybe, but I feel like I've learned so much just
[00:26:47] from other people.
[00:26:48] Like I feel like I've learned just from kind of watching
[00:26:50] YouTube videos and seeing what other people do.
[00:26:52] I don't know about dietitian.
[00:26:53] Maybe I would say more likely like something involving.
[00:26:59] Because like I wouldn't say I'm some like fitness guru who
[00:27:01] goes around and like does a bunch of group classes
[00:27:03] and things like that.
[00:27:04] I kind of just do my own thing.
[00:27:05] Maybe I do some one-on-one sessions with people,
[00:27:08] but I'd say that's much, much further down the totem pole
[00:27:12] if, I don't know, baseball didn't exist
[00:27:15] or something like that.
[00:27:16] So maybe, I guess I could see myself
[00:27:19] in a real other alternate verse doing that
[00:27:23] and being somewhat satisfied with it,
[00:27:25] but I would say more likely than not, it's gonna be in sports.
[00:27:27] Interesting.
[00:27:28] You know, I would say the same thing.
[00:27:30] I have a very different answer.
[00:27:32] I'm not sure if I've talked about this on the podcast.
[00:27:34] If I wasn't gonna go into journalism
[00:27:35] and focus on sports and college,
[00:27:38] I wanted to be in tech.
[00:27:39] I wanted to be a computer science major.
[00:27:42] That stuff always really interested me in high school. Funny thing is it's probably good I didn't I don't know I don't know I
[00:27:49] don't quite know if I would have cut it do you want to guess what my SAT score was on
[00:27:53] the on the AP computer science class do you want to guess I'm sure it was higher than
[00:27:58] my why didn't take AP computer science but I'm sure your SAT score was probably higher
[00:28:01] than mine. Well no not SAT What might the AP computer science test?
[00:28:06] Like one through five, you want to guess what the score was?
[00:28:09] I don't know.
[00:28:10] One.
[00:28:11] Oh, I thought I did great.
[00:28:12] I thought I killed it.
[00:28:14] I thought I studied my ass off.
[00:28:16] I thought I nailed the test and I got a one and I was sitting there on my
[00:28:20] computer, just like flabbergasted at the score.
[00:28:24] I'm like, how is that possible? I got a one. I was kind there on my computer, just like flabbergasted at the score. I'm like, how is that possible?
[00:28:26] I got a one.
[00:28:27] I was kind of pissed off.
[00:28:28] That class was about as hard of a high school class that it's at ever had that
[00:28:32] in chemistry, but I actually enjoyed the computer science.
[00:28:35] I like, I enjoy building things, especially like on the lap, like on a laptop
[00:28:39] and tinkering around and sort of trying new things, which correlates into, say, video editing
[00:28:46] and creating content for this podcast,
[00:28:47] but in a different sense for computer science.
[00:28:50] So I was thinking that computer science
[00:28:52] would be a cool path to go down.
[00:28:55] Didn't end up happening.
[00:28:56] I'm obviously sitting here talking about sports
[00:28:58] with my journalism degree instead,
[00:29:00] but I thought that would have been cool.
[00:29:02] Now that I'm an adult,
[00:29:04] I feel like something travel related, something that would allow me to. Now that I'm an adult, I feel like something travel related,
[00:29:05] something that would allow me to travel more than I do right now,
[00:29:09] I think would be a path.
[00:29:10] I don't exactly know what that would be.
[00:29:12] Lao floated the idea of a flight attendant.
[00:29:14] In theory, a flight attendant sounds great.
[00:29:16] The problem is the customer service part,
[00:29:18] I don't know if I have the patience for that,
[00:29:20] dealing with other people that much,
[00:29:21] especially on a plane, like stuck in a metal tube
[00:29:24] with a bunch of 300 strangers for hours on end when they're hungry and tired and
[00:29:33] antsy and there's crying babies and who knows what will happen.
[00:29:37] Maybe the door will fly off on the plane as well and you have to deal with that as well. So I don't quite know if that would be it.
[00:29:47] A pilot sounds cool.
[00:29:49] The problem is the steps to being a pilot is a huge,
[00:29:53] huge pain in the ass.
[00:29:54] And it is so expensive to get all those flight hours
[00:29:58] to become a pilot, especially a commercial pilot.
[00:30:01] Man, I don't know if I could,
[00:30:03] if I would have the wherewithal
[00:30:05] to get through all of that.
[00:30:07] So I guess that's my complicated answer.
[00:30:10] Tech, then something travel related.
[00:30:12] I honestly have three answers to that
[00:30:14] because there's a few follow ups.
[00:30:15] Number one, TJ, everybody, as you can tell,
[00:30:17] makes really fiscally responsible decisions.
[00:30:19] He decided not to go into tech and be in sports journalism.
[00:30:23] So that's the one.
[00:30:24] Yeah. So if's the point.
[00:30:25] Well, so if I think about this,
[00:30:27] it's one industry that pays extremely well,
[00:30:29] but now just laid a shit ton of people off.
[00:30:32] So, you know, I would actually,
[00:30:35] I'm still at least gainfully employed in this.
[00:30:37] If I was in tech right now, I could be unemployed.
[00:30:39] So at this very moment,
[00:30:40] though I would have pretty good unemployment benefits,
[00:30:42] I would say.
[00:30:43] Yeah.
[00:30:44] Yeah. That's fair. My other two problems, one to the pilot thing. I mean, you should ask my
[00:30:48] brother about it because I mean, my brother has his pilot's license and all that. He flies planes,
[00:30:52] but to your point, it took him a long time. And like you said, it's a lot of hours.
[00:30:57] Yeah, a lot of hours, really expensive. Again, I don't know if it's like the piloting specifically,
[00:31:02] but more of just like how I end up at the destination.
[00:31:06] If I'm gonna like, you know, I scroll on TikTok
[00:31:08] and I see these pilots documenting like,
[00:31:10] oh yeah, I just hopped to Australia.
[00:31:12] That was our international flight.
[00:31:14] Now I get to spend three days here.
[00:31:15] It's like, oh, that sounds pretty cool.
[00:31:16] And it's all paid for and work related
[00:31:19] and you get to see the world for your job.
[00:31:21] And I think that's pretty cool.
[00:31:22] And you can, yeah, I mean, you still have like a home base.
[00:31:24] You still have a house and live somewhere with a family and all that
[00:31:27] stuff. But you also get the plus of going out on the road and, and hitting all these
[00:31:31] spots and super, super cool. And that was kind of one of the reasons I got into sports.
[00:31:36] Cause like, once you make it to the top level, you get to travel all over the place for sporting
[00:31:40] events and such haven't made it there yet. I haven't, I've, the farthest I've
[00:31:45] gone on the road for a sporting event is down the road to Eugene. That's it. But we're working
[00:31:50] out. We're, we're taking, taking baby steps.
[00:31:52] Well, by the time this podcast is out, that'll change. You're traveling to Arizona technically
[00:31:56] per that that is true. Yeah, that is true. So, but you know, one step at a time, it is
[00:32:02] still a little bit, a little bit early, but you know, we'll make it.
[00:32:05] Early, but like I said, like obviously long term,
[00:32:07] we hope to do a lot more stuff with this.
[00:32:09] If it keeps, you know, if it keeps building up
[00:32:11] and everything, like we said,
[00:32:13] I think it'd be pretty cool to go to the winter meetings
[00:32:15] a lot and yeah, keep going back to spring training
[00:32:17] and whatever else could kind of pop up.
[00:32:19] So, yeah.
[00:32:20] Yeah, I mean, I have a better one.
[00:32:21] If they send the Mariners to say like Japan, Korea, or the UK, or I think they might play game in France or something, whatever. I
[00:32:30] know, no, you're not a huge international traveler, but if, you know, if we're making
[00:32:34] the moolah by then, like, let's go.
[00:32:36] I'll be honest, for that, I would, I would do it because it would probably be a pretty
[00:32:40] cool experience to see the Mariners in a different place.
[00:32:43] And I think I could change your mind on travel at that point.
[00:32:45] Once we actually go experience it and you put a smile on your face and you're like,
[00:32:49] actually TJ, I think that's a good idea.
[00:32:50] We should do this more.
[00:32:51] All right.
[00:32:53] Last thing I will say, and then we'll move on to the next question, but
[00:32:56] standardized tests to your point about taking the SAT are there.
[00:33:00] Not only are they the worst, but they're so outdated, like so much of the school
[00:33:04] system just outdated as a whole.
[00:33:05] And maybe I'm biased because I was an atrocious test taker, AKA like, I mean, I didn't get
[00:33:10] like a 100 on the SATs or anything ridiculous like that.
[00:33:13] I don't even think you can get a score that low.
[00:33:15] But I just wasn't, you know, getting flying color scores on standardized tests.
[00:33:20] So I wasn't good at taking them.
[00:33:23] So there's all sorts of problems with standardized tests too. Like the for someone to have a test score that high, the amount of money, like it all boils back to money funny enough with everything, everything in this country. But like the amount of hours and like tutoring and training you have to do to like get those high SAT scores like not everyone can achieve that not everyone has the time to do that. So like it kind of sucks. And notice how like during the pandemic when they just canceled
[00:33:48] the SATs, the world didn't crumble. Right. Funny. Or some people are just naturally
[00:33:53] really good test takers, but right. I certainly was not one of those people. And also, at
[00:33:57] least for me, I can tell you, I have learned so much more in my lifetime, just watching
[00:34:02] YouTube videos and learning that way, like watching in a
[00:34:11] shortened form and then doing, rather than sitting for weeks and weeks and weeks on end at a desk, being attempted to learn something I didn't care about and then paper plops on your desk and say,
[00:34:15] take a test on it. So yeah, anyway, I could go on a rant about that forever, but change the
[00:34:20] schooling system. Okay. Next question, another fun question. This one comes from,
[00:34:26] I wanna make sure I get the name right
[00:34:27] because we got it, I don't wanna say late,
[00:34:30] but it was like, we found it a little bit later on.
[00:34:32] We're like, oh, we should talk about this one.
[00:34:34] This is from Orla McCaffrey, this is on Instagram.
[00:34:36] She says, best spot to watch the sunset in Seattle.
[00:34:40] What's yours?
[00:34:42] So, I have a great spot for this.
[00:34:45] It is on Queen Anne.
[00:34:47] Here's my directions to get there.
[00:34:48] The park's name itself is called Marshall Park.
[00:34:52] So Marshall Park is right next to Kerry Park.
[00:34:54] Everyone knows, I assume, if you're a Seattleite or your Seattle area person like Lyle, or
[00:35:01] you visit Seattle and you need to go to a sightseeing spot. I'm
[00:35:06] pretty certain you know what Kerry Park is. Kerry Park is on Queen Anne Hill, overlooks
[00:35:11] the skyline, overlooks the Puget Sound, you can see the ferries, you can see the Olympic
[00:35:15] Mountains. It's nice. It looks, you know, southwest-ish, more south than west, but it
[00:35:21] looks southwest. And I'd say the sunset from Kerry Park is fine.
[00:35:25] But if you're at Kerry Park and then you turn right
[00:35:29] on Highland Drive, which is where Kerry Park is on,
[00:35:32] and you walk all the way to the end of the street
[00:35:35] walking West, you get to Marshall Park.
[00:35:38] And Marshall Park is right next to eighth place, I believe.
[00:35:44] And eighth place runs right along this just
[00:35:46] top edge of Queen and Hill and the just nicest houses ever that are worth multi millions
[00:35:51] are up there, right? And they're all gated off, but there's this really nice walkway
[00:35:55] to along this, along eighth place. And you can look straight out west, you see the Olympic
[00:36:01] mountains and you see the sunset there. I took front of the pod, Victor Ren,
[00:36:06] there after our freshman year of college,
[00:36:09] we walked up there during the sunset and it was gorgeous.
[00:36:13] You can see everything, you can see the sun,
[00:36:14] like sort of fitting in between the mountains and Magnolia,
[00:36:19] which is the Hill across from where Queen Anne Hill is
[00:36:24] and it's spectacular.
[00:36:25] I think it's a fantastic spot to see a sunset.
[00:36:28] Little niche.
[00:36:30] And again, not the most popular park on that street,
[00:36:34] but if you want a sunset, I couldn't recommend that more.
[00:36:36] I think it's awesome.
[00:36:38] Yeah, I've never been.
[00:36:39] Now I have another spot to check out
[00:36:41] because I've certainly been to Kerry Park,
[00:36:42] but never Marshall Park.
[00:36:44] Yeah, Victor, who we've mentioned him before,
[00:36:46] he does like, he made our YouTube background.
[00:36:48] He's done a few different things to help us out,
[00:36:50] where he does a bunch of video editing
[00:36:51] and that's his job and he's really good at it.
[00:36:54] So that is what he does.
[00:36:55] No, he does, well, he does a variety of stuff
[00:36:57] with Under Armour, I know, but yeah.
[00:37:00] So anyway, my favorite spot to watch a Seattle sunset is,
[00:37:06] it's got to be Gasworks Park.
[00:37:07] Maybe that's a cliche answer and a basic answer,
[00:37:10] but I know you see the water at Kerry Park,
[00:37:14] but the fact you're literally right on the water
[00:37:17] at Gasworks and like especially when it gets to nighttime,
[00:37:20] like after the sunsets and you have the skyline
[00:37:23] kind of like lighting up the water and you got a
[00:37:26] perfect view of the space needle and the Columbia tower it I love gas works park I think that especially on a nice
[00:37:31] day love that you like Harry Park's great personally I like gas works better I love gas works too I mean that's a
[00:37:39] spot for for us Seattle kids I like all the time that we would be at.
[00:37:45] Sunset wise, I was thinking like the sun gets kind of blocked out there, which is why I was thinking,
[00:37:52] I know it lights up the sky and looks nice, but I was just thinking, I'm like,
[00:37:56] the sun kind of tucks behind Queen Anne when it's going down at that point,
[00:38:00] because Queen Anne is directly west of Gasworks Park and it would drop behind there.
[00:38:05] But for Sunset, still a very good place to go, especially during the summer.
[00:38:09] It's warm. You can see the whole skyline. You can see all the boats out on Lake Union.
[00:38:14] It's super, super, super nice. And yeah, it's a good spot. I mean, through the years,
[00:38:20] I mean, I'm just thinking when I went there during, during high school and we do all sorts of hooligan shit. I'll just leave it like that at, at gas works park.
[00:38:30] And then, you know, how it's sort of grown over the years and still, still one of the
[00:38:34] best spots to go to. Yeah. Be on the lookout for TJ of all people. That's how we should
[00:38:39] put it. No. Have you ever been up on the gas structure?
[00:38:44] Like climbed up it? No. Yeah. I have once. Well, there you ever been up on the gas structure? Like climbed up it? No.
[00:38:45] Yeah, I have once.
[00:38:47] Well, there you go.
[00:38:48] They they do some they do.
[00:38:52] It's they made it a little harder, I believe now, but I think it's gated.
[00:38:56] No, it's it's an interesting.
[00:38:58] It is.
[00:38:58] Well, yeah, you got to find a way through it.
[00:39:00] It's always has been gated off.
[00:39:02] You just got to find a way through it.
[00:39:04] OK, OK.
[00:39:04] So it's a, okay, okay.
[00:39:05] But like the view, I'll say the view up there at night
[00:39:08] is unbelievable.
[00:39:10] Yeah.
[00:39:11] That honestly might even be more at the sunset.
[00:39:13] Like after the sun goes down and it's dark,
[00:39:15] but you have the whole skyline lighting up.
[00:39:17] Yeah, I love it.
[00:39:18] So yeah, no, those are good places to watch a sunset.
[00:39:22] Okay, I'll throw it back to you now
[00:39:24] to get through some more of these questions,
[00:39:26] but I will say the next few are definitely Mariners related.
[00:39:29] I thought the last few we got were some fun
[00:39:31] non-Mariners related ones,
[00:39:32] but it's a mix of everything in the smell bag.
[00:39:35] The next one comes from Evan Holmes.17 on Instagram.
[00:39:40] The question is, who will be the Mariners' most valuable
[00:39:43] hitter not named Julio Rodriguez?
[00:39:47] I went with Mitch Garber for this.
[00:39:49] As everybody knows, the DH position has been a disaster since Nelson Cruz left.
[00:39:55] Like, and I don't think that's an unfair statement.
[00:39:59] Last year, it was a turn style constantly.
[00:40:01] They couldn't find a solution there.
[00:40:03] Now they've got one.
[00:40:04] And not only do they have a
[00:40:05] solution at DH, but it's a solution at DH for a guy that put up a 138 WRC plus last year. I know it
[00:40:12] was in a shortened sample size, but that was higher than Julio's. That was higher than JP's. That was
[00:40:17] higher than the rest of the team. Mitch Garver is vitally important to the Mariners in 2024 and
[00:40:23] beyond, because if you
[00:40:25] have a true DH, you can plug in there almost every day who's providing pop, getting on
[00:40:29] base, not striking out, this lineup is going to look so much different.
[00:40:33] I will say Ty France is probably a sleeper for this, especially if he bounces back.
[00:40:37] But who's my, who's my pick non Julio wise to be the most impactful?
[00:40:41] Garver.
[00:40:42] And I'm going to go off a similar train of thought, but at a different position.
[00:40:46] And I think Jorge Polanco.
[00:40:49] First off, because if we're thinking like literally like who is going to be the most
[00:40:52] valuable hitter besides Julio Rodriguez, well, it's probably going to be one of the guys
[00:40:56] hitting behind him.
[00:40:58] You mentioned one of the guys hitting behind him, Mitch Garver.
[00:41:00] Another guy who's going to be hitting behind him is Jorge Polanco. Jorge Polanco based off the past production over the last four years at second base.
[00:41:11] I mean, I would imagine if he's healthy this year is going to be like one of the most valuable
[00:41:15] players on the roster just because of the production at that position in the past, like
[00:41:20] what happens if the Mariners get a 125 WRC plus a second base after years
[00:41:26] of like an 80 to 70 WRC plus a second base? I can like it is unbelievable the amount of
[00:41:32] value that carries on this roster. I was thinking that if JP were to replicate or even exceed his
[00:41:40] 2023 season in 2024, that's an option. Now, as of right now, I don't think
[00:41:49] that's going to happen for JP. So instead, I'm going to count on more of a progress progress
[00:41:56] from Jorge Palanco playing a full healthy season with the Mariners this year, instead
[00:42:01] of anticipating JP is going to set a new career high after
[00:42:05] blowing his old status quo for offense out of the water last season.
[00:42:10] So I think you and I took similar trains of thought to arrive at different answers, which
[00:42:16] I think is good and shows you the depth of this roster.
[00:42:19] Yeah.
[00:42:20] Look, for how much second base and DH, the DH spots have struggled the last few years for
[00:42:26] the Mariners. Think about what happens if both Garver and Polanco hit that well. I mean, think
[00:42:31] about the Mariners missed the playoffs by two games last year and one 88 games and had virtually
[00:42:36] no offensive production from second base until Josh Rojas got there. And then virtually nothing
[00:42:42] for a lot of the year at the DH spot in spurts. You had it with Mike Ford.
[00:42:46] Imagine if you have Jorge Polanco and Mitch Garver, both on the field and
[00:42:50] put up a 120 to 125 WRC plus.
[00:42:52] That is a team that again, you, you, you heard me on a previous show recently
[00:42:56] talk about the Mariners can win the West.
[00:42:59] If those guys do that and the rest of the lineup hits, like why not?
[00:43:03] Think about how much better that makes your team. It makes it monumentally better. So, oh, and let me add this last thing too.
[00:43:10] When, when TJ talks about the fact that he doesn't know if JP is going to repeat what
[00:43:14] he did last season, I think all TJ means by that is maybe he doesn't put up a 134 WRC
[00:43:20] plus again. He could still be from 120 to 125. And in fact, I think that's right where
[00:43:23] he will be, which by the way, that's a really good season. Just maybe it's not 134 again.
[00:43:28] Yeah. Just just think about it this way. In the previous career high for JP at the before
[00:43:33] last season was 103. And then you jump up to 134. It's a pretty big jump. And usually
[00:43:38] that is that's about as big of a jump as you can get in offense in a season. So now if you were to jump from 130 to 165, then you and I are going to sit here and reconsider
[00:43:49] in season.
[00:43:50] He does that.
[00:43:51] JP might win the MVP.
[00:43:52] Yeah, win the MVP and well, the question wouldn't be besides Julio would be besides
[00:43:58] JP.
[00:43:59] Yeah, there you go.
[00:44:00] All right.
[00:44:01] Next question, another fun one.
[00:44:02] This comes from WB.Rion36 on Instagram.
[00:44:06] He says, who is your favorite player on the Mariners
[00:44:09] that isn't actually that good?
[00:44:11] So we took the approach of this in picking
[00:44:14] an all-time Mariner that fits the mold of this question.
[00:44:18] And there are a lot of answers you can go with,
[00:44:20] but I'll flip it to you first.
[00:44:23] Cause I was trying to think of like a current version of the
[00:44:26] mayor, a current mariner who I loved that wasn't actually that
[00:44:30] good. And then I'm like, well, all the mariners that weren't
[00:44:32] actually that good end up being like essentially Abe Toro who I
[00:44:37] don't like. So that doesn't work out. Do you remember the first
[00:44:42] two months of the Nick Franklin era in 2013?
[00:44:45] Oh, it was dreamy.
[00:44:47] Of course, I remember the Nick Franklin era.
[00:44:50] Man, when he came up, I mean, I thought that dude was going to be an all star.
[00:44:55] Like he was, he was stunned.
[00:44:58] We said, I remember me, my brother and my dad sat at the kitchen table that year and
[00:45:02] we're thinking, okay, who is going to be the next Mariners all star infielder? Is it going to be Nick Franklin, Brad Miller,
[00:45:10] or Kyle Seager? That's the, that's the level of discussion we were having about the early
[00:45:15] stages of Nick Franklin's career with the Mariners in 2013. And he had nearly an 800
[00:45:21] OPS as a second baseman in the first half of 2013. And then in the second
[00:45:25] half, he hit under 200 and essentially, and then eventually got left off the roster,
[00:45:30] bounced around for a few years in the big leagues before retiring. But his early stages
[00:45:36] were amazing. I thought I was like, wow, this is, well, the Mariners don't get good players
[00:45:40] like this.
[00:45:41] Do you remember just the pattern that Marinersiner's shortstop prospects had for a while
[00:45:46] because that happened with Nick Franklin, then Brad Miller tore it up for half a year when he
[00:45:50] got up. And to be fair, Miller, I mean, Miller's had a 10 year big league career and he's had some
[00:45:55] good spurts when he was with the Mariners. But then Chris Taylor came up, had a really good season
[00:46:01] and then didn't really do anything. And Kitele came up and had half a really good season and
[00:46:04] obviously they traded him away.
[00:46:06] He's been great with the Diamondbacks,
[00:46:07] but that was a trend for a while.
[00:46:09] And it's all started with Nick Franklin,
[00:46:11] who was a huge prospect, unfortunately, didn't do much.
[00:46:17] Shocker.
[00:46:18] Wow, I wonder how they evaluated him.
[00:46:20] What were Jack C's checkpoints, is batting average and RBI is a man literally said home runs
[00:46:28] and RBI is awesome.
[00:46:31] Nick Franklin's my answer though he was that was that was to say special first half of
[00:46:37] 2013.
[00:46:39] Mine's a deep cut but I've talked about him on here before briefly. Carlos Pigaro loved that dude.
[00:46:47] Absolutely loved him, which didn't make much sense because he didn't have any sort of
[00:46:51] big league career.
[00:46:52] But you know what?
[00:46:53] Those Mariner teams in the early 2010s were so bad that you had to have something to hang
[00:46:59] on to that was fun and gave you energy.
[00:47:01] And you know what it was for me?
[00:47:03] Every time Carlos Pigaro stepped to the plate, you knew. Once in every 20 years, so it bats,
[00:47:10] he was gonna absolutely pummel a baseball. And you know,
[00:47:15] there were some spurts where he did just about that. Honestly, maybe it was
[00:47:18] less than every once every 20 of bats, but even still, you knew once in a
[00:47:21] blue moon, he was gonna absolutely rocket a baseball into orbit. And he would you would see him hit tape measure bombs every now and then love
[00:47:29] the guy and he was big. He was strong. Everything. So never did much, but I'll tell you what,
[00:47:34] what was I looking forward to in the early 2010s? It wasn't winning games. It was seeing
[00:47:38] Carlos Pigaro at that.
[00:47:39] Hmm. I had another idea for this question, which was Russell brandon, but he was actually kind
[00:47:46] of good for the Mariners at points. So I don't know if you would have really qualified.
[00:47:50] No, he had one big year. That was a nine. So yeah, I don't, I don't think brand new
[00:47:56] qualifies. Well, yeah, it was, it was a thought. He was a lot of fun to watch. Overall, as
[00:48:02] a baseball player, probably not great, but at least what the Mariners he was so didn't qualify, but
[00:48:08] Shadow to Nick Franklin. He's on my Mount Rushmore of what could have been alongside Brad Miller Dustin Ackley
[00:48:13] Oh, they all played on the same team together funny funny how that works out
[00:48:17] Okay, before we get to our next question
[00:48:19] Let's hear a word from our friends at better help is something interfering with your happiness or preventing you from achieving your goals regardless. If you have a clinical mental health

[00:49:34] which players do you think make the opening day lineup and how many of them will still
[00:49:39] be here in October?
[00:49:43] So projecting the opening day lineups going to be a little bit tough because obviously
[00:49:48] there's some platoons involved. Now, if you were to assume that Brian Bayo or Lucas Gioleto was
[00:49:54] going to start opening day for the Red Sox, you would assume it would be some left handed bat. So
[00:49:57] it would probably be Rojas over Arias. If Arias is even healthy, it would probably be Dom Canzone
[00:50:03] over Mitch Haniger.
[00:50:05] But the starters are all the same.
[00:50:07] Like, Haniger's going to get playing time.
[00:50:08] Erias is going to get playing time if he's healthy.
[00:50:10] Again, platoons take a factor into this.
[00:50:13] Still here in October, unless there's injuries, which of course is possible, like if a player
[00:50:18] gets injured and is not on the field in October because they're on the I.L., that's always
[00:50:22] a possibility.
[00:50:23] But in terms of being out of the organization, I don't know if there's many
[00:50:27] guys that are currently projected to be in the opening day lineup that would be off the team.
[00:50:31] I don't think there's that many.
[00:50:33] Maybe the one guy is, is Arias a third base?
[00:50:36] Like for example, if he's not playing well or if he, if he, you know, is, is hurt for a while.
[00:50:43] And the team tries to move on and do something else
[00:50:45] or something like that.
[00:50:46] Because again, there is a chance he starts on the aisle if he can't throw the ball.
[00:50:49] Maybe him, but I don't think there's a lot.
[00:50:52] I think most of the guys that they've traded for, they already have in house, their envisioning
[00:50:56] is being core pieces of the team.
[00:50:59] I think opening day lineup would be for the most part, the same barring and upgraded the
[00:51:04] deadline.
[00:51:06] But if I'm going to say overall opening day roster, would the number six players, six
[00:51:13] different players make sense? I was thinking about it this way. There's going to be turnover
[00:51:18] in the bullpen. There is every single season that especially of this current iteration
[00:51:22] of the Mariners has been like three to four guys at least that have cycled out over the course of the season in the bullpen.
[00:51:29] So there's those three to four, one starter, potentially it could be Emerson Hancock in
[00:51:35] there over, let's say Brian will either gets hurt or reaches his innings limit and they
[00:51:42] slow and get slow them down a little bit. So there's like one starter. And then I would say one player on the bench. Once you reach October,
[00:51:51] that could be swapped out. It could be just it could be as simple as a Sam Hagerty be
[00:51:55] being put in there, or it could be when you add a position player and you bump say demo
[00:52:00] down and that bumps the next bench player down to something like that. As of right now, especially now that they have four outfielders, they feel confident
[00:52:09] in it.
[00:52:10] That's probably the outfield probably stays the same and the infield as of right now probably
[00:52:17] stays the same stands.
[00:52:18] Urias who could get swapped out or even like, you know, there could be some world.
[00:52:22] Josh Rojas really doesn't do that well this
[00:52:25] year. And if they really need to make a push, they would consider it. But at this very point,
[00:52:31] more unlikely than not, the only position player, while I could truly see being added
[00:52:36] in season would be a backup center fielder. Because to be honest, they don't have a backup
[00:52:40] center fielder right now to backup Julio. So that would,
[00:52:45] that would be like one guy. Otherwise, it's just kind of hard to see at this moment.
[00:52:49] That's actually a good point. If Julio heaven forbid goes on the aisle at some point this year,
[00:52:54] or just has off days or is day to day for a few days. Yeah, who is playing center field? Like,
[00:53:01] I would say Mo maybe, or I was was going to say if it's an actual situation
[00:53:06] where they have to make a roster move, you can call Kate Marlola. He could certainly play
[00:53:09] some center field. But if the if Julio's day to day, for example, or has an off day,
[00:53:14] I don't really know of this outfield group who's playing center field. I mean, Mitch
[00:53:19] isn't Dom isn't Rayleigh. I don't really think is. I don't know. Maybe it's DMO. Maybe it's
[00:53:26] it might be DMO or yeah, they probably have to call Kate up or or maybe some odd Taylor,
[00:53:33] right? Yeah, potentially. Yep. Somebody somebody but somebody who's probably not on the opening
[00:53:40] 26 man roster. Yeah, that is I mean, obviously your most teams do not find positions to back up their
[00:53:49] superstars like intently, but you do have to have somebody that can stand out there
[00:53:53] and play some competent defense out there.
[00:53:55] Julio is going to have off days or again, hopefully never hits the IL, but if you were
[00:53:58] to then then yeah, that's a good point.
[00:54:00] Okay, we got two fun questions to wrap this one up.
[00:54:04] The next one comes from eternal
[00:54:07] bishette on Instagram. He says, favorite ballpark food.
[00:54:11] Hmm, I had to think like long and hard about this one only to come to the most basic answer
[00:54:17] ever. Just like, I like a good cheeseburger at a stadium. I think stadiums can do all
[00:54:24] every different stadium you go to
[00:54:25] can have a different version of something you like, whether it be a different company that
[00:54:29] makes the burger or different style of burger, depending on what city you're in. For example,
[00:54:34] I think of T-Mobile Park like Kid Valley, if we're thinking chains, I think is good burgers.
[00:54:38] But if you want more of a niche chain burger, great state when they were in the ballpark,
[00:54:44] I thought had the best food in the park.
[00:54:46] Unfortunately, they're not there anymore.
[00:54:48] They were down there in the pen in a corner behind the masses.
[00:54:52] I thought that was my favorite meal while they were there,
[00:54:54] but they're unfortunately not there anymore.
[00:54:57] So I think a burger, I think it's the most, uh,
[00:55:00] it's most easy to replicate throughout a stadium while also getting some uniqueness
[00:55:06] city to city ballpark to ballpark. And, but overall, my favorite thing to consume at a
[00:55:11] ballpark is beer because there's a lot of beer and there's a lot of different beer all over
[00:55:15] the, all over the country. So I think that would be the easiest one for me.
[00:55:20] Yeah. Do you have a go to beer? You usually get at the ballpark.
[00:55:30] Well, I like the Mariners value beers. I think that is an incredible concept in a ballpark, especially, you know, we're in our mid twenties. We don't, if we can not shell out $14 for
[00:55:36] a beer or like we were at city field a year and a half ago or my brother and I each spent
[00:55:41] $16 on a tall boy. It just, it's a bit much. I would rather go like
[00:55:47] value beer where you can buy two at a time and you can get two $6 beers for $12 and taking both
[00:55:54] back to your seat and enjoy. And throughout the game, you don't have to go during happy hour or
[00:55:59] anything like that. I do like Bodie, Rubens beer, Rubens Brewing in Ballard, Shout out Ballard.
[00:56:06] So, you know, support the home neighborhood a little bit.
[00:56:09] And it's good, but there's a lot of good options.
[00:56:11] T-Mobile has among the best beer options
[00:56:15] in all major league baseball.
[00:56:17] So it's a real treat to be able to do that.
[00:56:20] So that's my answer.
[00:56:23] Well, not just beer.
[00:56:23] T-Mobile Park has maybe the best food options in major
[00:56:26] league baseball. Like, yeah, it's up there. Yeah.
[00:56:29] It's up there.
[00:56:31] I would say, okay, so my favorite all time ballpark food is dip and dots, which,
[00:56:36] I mean, that's what I always got when I was a kid. Funny story. I mean, I mean,
[00:56:39] if you just want to peek behind the curtain, me growing up, going to Mariners
[00:56:42] games, I don't know why we ever established this and put it in place,
[00:56:45] but it was something we always did growing up
[00:56:47] that always in the sixth inning,
[00:56:49] my brother and I would usually go,
[00:56:52] like with my parents and we'd go get dip in dots
[00:56:54] because we loved them,
[00:56:55] we wanted to get deserted at the game,
[00:56:56] that's what we would do.
[00:56:57] And I feel like I usually got cookies and cream dip in dots,
[00:57:00] although I would often venture out
[00:57:02] into some other flavors too.
[00:57:03] So all time favorite food
[00:57:05] at the ballpark, I'd say dip and dots, favorite food at T mobile park, like especially that
[00:57:09] I've tried over the last couple of years. There's a couple sandwiches from marination that I
[00:57:13] think are really good like that barbecue pork sandwich I had was really good choice.
[00:57:18] Or that barbe it was early in the year was those games in April, you and I were at I
[00:57:23] tried that barbecue brisket
[00:57:25] quesadilla that was down at Edgar's. That was really good. I would say one of those two foods
[00:57:30] would be my favorite team, Mobile Park food stadium wise. Edgar's has some really good sandwiches.
[00:57:36] I forget what they're called. Just blanking. That was really good. Again, that barbecue brisket
[00:57:41] quesadilla was really good. And like Ballard Pizza Company always has really good food at T-Mobile Park. I like that.
[00:57:49] And there's some more creative options too. Like Charlie's cheesesteaks is also pretty
[00:57:53] solid for ballpark fare. And then Moto Pizza, I think is like, like you had it. It's pretty
[00:58:02] good. Just very expensive in the ballpark. Yeah.
[00:58:05] It's, here's the problem with Moto Pizza.
[00:58:07] It's really expensive.
[00:58:09] It's always a super long line and it's, it's fine.
[00:58:13] I don't, I'm not gonna say it tastes like little Caesars
[00:58:15] or something like it's probably a step up from that,
[00:58:17] but it's, especially when you have East Coast roots,
[00:58:21] like the two of us have
[00:58:22] and you get accustomed to having like New York pizza and stuff. It just doesn't really compare Moto pizza. So I usually venture out
[00:58:29] into other options at the ballpark probably the Moto pizza, but I did get it to try and
[00:58:33] try it.
[00:58:34] And I'm sure the brick and mortar place is a little bit better than the stadium one.
[00:58:37] Like give them credit. I know they're brick and mortar place is probably still is a month
[00:58:40] long weight line to get it. But if you can't even like match pugliachi, then like you probably shrug
[00:58:47] your shoulders. And I would just in the ballpark rather just go
[00:58:50] to Bow and Pizza Company. Because it's it's probably better
[00:58:52] than Moto Pizza. And you can get your pizza way faster. So
[00:58:56] you can you can get the Cal zone like C al all capital letters.
[00:59:00] Like you can get that or you mentioned Charlie's cheese
[00:59:02] steaks. So early in the year, TJ and I were doing some food reviews that we kind of stopped doing
[00:59:07] them as the season went on.
[00:59:08] But TJ got one of those cheesesteaks.
[00:59:10] And I remember he was like, he near got it all over himself trying to try it.
[00:59:14] It was huge.
[00:59:15] It was filled up and he was like trying to get the big bite in without spilling on himself.
[00:59:19] But yeah, like you get a lot of food if you go there.
[00:59:22] Yeah, that was a mess.
[00:59:23] And I mean, didn't I phone in theory is probably maybe the best overall restaurant
[00:59:28] they have in there, but not like the ballpark version of it.
[00:59:31] Yeah.
[00:59:31] So if I was going to go to the Dintai fun, you probably just go to the restaurant.
[00:59:34] I feel like my family and I used to.
[00:59:36] So that was always my brother's spot to go for his birthday.
[00:59:38] He loves it.
[00:59:39] So we would go at least once a year for his birthday.
[00:59:42] So I feel like if I was going to go, I'd just go to the restaurant and go to the ball. Right. Right. Yeah. It's a good point. Yeah. I can't
[00:59:49] think of I'm trying to think of anything in like any other ballpark I would have that
[00:59:53] could top what I chose like off of the hamburger point. Apparently like the Yankee Stadium like
[01:00:00] Aaron Judge burger is supposed to be unbelievable. Like yeah, wagyu patties
[01:00:06] like it looks unbelievable. And if I'm sure it took a bite of it, I don't think anything
[01:00:11] else could top it across the country. Unfortunately, again, they sell 100 of them per game or 99
[01:00:18] of them per game. I think it might be 99. It's 99. Yeah, 99 of them per game. So yeah, it's a little probably a little
[01:00:26] difficult to get your hands on. But I would say that would probably end up being the number
[01:00:30] one thing if you could if you could manage it. I couldn't think of anything else. Yeah.
[01:00:35] Well, the last thing and then we can get to our final question. I remember we got recommended
[01:00:40] when we did our cross country drive from Seattle to the Cape League before our second summer
[01:00:44] calling baseball games in the Cape Codley. we went to go see the pirates in Pittsburgh
[01:00:48] at PNC and people were raving about that Pramanti bro sandwich. Like, what was the high by
[01:00:54] try? Did I didn't know it was very good. That was so tasteless. Again, I think I wanted
[01:00:59] it would prefer going into the brick and mortar over the PNC park location. I feel like the
[01:01:04] brick and mortar place would be good, but it, you know,
[01:01:07] it was the sandwich filled with French fries.
[01:01:08] It was just like a load of carbs.
[01:01:10] I didn't think the meat was very good either.
[01:01:12] So yeah, I'm with you.
[01:01:14] I was like very disappointed in that sandwich.
[01:01:16] I had my expectation set a lot higher.
[01:01:19] I've had some very good sandwiches in my life.
[01:01:22] Unfortunately, that was not one of them.
[01:01:24] So I would would if I'm
[01:01:26] ever back in Pittsburgh, I'd like to try the actual place and then give it a fair review.
[01:01:32] Yeah. Instead of a rain delayed French fry and whatever meat sandwich. Like do you remember
[01:01:37] what the meat was in there? I don't. Was it not just check in or something? I don't know. I couldn't even tell. I like felt like a sausage patty, but.
[01:01:47] Yeah, I don't know.
[01:01:49] I don't know.
[01:01:50] For those who don't know,
[01:01:51] Prmanty Bros is one of the Pittsburgh staples.
[01:01:53] It's a sandwich shop.
[01:01:54] They do some really unique sandwiches.
[01:01:56] Again, they put French fries in a lot of them,
[01:01:57] but yeah, the ballpark could have been a lot better.
[01:02:01] Yeah.
[01:02:01] Yeah.
[01:02:02] Okay, let's wrap it up with our final question here of this mail bag. This is asked by I got to look here.
[01:02:08] It's very small. Eric Schultz. He left us a comment on YouTube. What is your favorite baseball and non baseball movie?
[01:02:18] Favorite baseball movie. The problem is I love all of them. There's going to be so many I leave out. If I have to pick one,
[01:02:26] it's probably moneyball, but I legitimately love every baseball movie that's been made
[01:02:31] or just about. So moneyball is my favorite. I will say for those who haven't seen eight
[01:02:36] men out, I could not recommend it enough because when people think of baseball Mount Rushmore's
[01:02:40] eight men out never gets put on there because you have the sunlight, you have a league of their own, you have major league, you had like
[01:02:47] there's so many other movies that come to mind first for people. But eight men
[01:02:52] out is and all those movies I just mentioned are great. But eight men out
[01:02:55] really tells the story of the 1919 White Sox and how they threw the world
[01:02:59] series. And then there was, you know, the trials for it. And then they hired
[01:03:03] their the first commissioner of baseball and then they get banned from baseball
[01:03:06] It's it's super interesting and I think it's really well done
[01:03:09] But for whatever reason it's not one of those Mount Rushmore baseball movies everybody thinks of so favorites money ball
[01:03:15] But if you need a baseball movie to go watch and you potentially haven't seen it. I recommend eight men out big time
[01:03:21] So my favorite baseball move so actually before I get to my answer,
[01:03:25] what's your favorite non baseball movie?
[01:03:27] Oh, well, there's two ways I could go about this.
[01:03:29] So I love a lot of really stupid movies.
[01:03:32] Like when people ask me what my favorite movie is, it's probably either happy
[01:03:35] Gilmore or step brothers, which maybe is right up my alley.
[01:03:39] But if you want to get away from that, as you know, as people who listen to this
[01:03:42] podcast, no, TJ and I both really love Star Wars. So I mean, the Star Wars movies, the Marvel movies, especially
[01:03:50] those Avengers movies, like those are probably them. If I had to pick one Star Wars movie,
[01:03:56] might be episode three, episode three or episode five. So one of those, but now I'll turn it
[01:04:03] back to you.
[01:04:04] So my favorite baseball movie is Moneyball.
[01:04:06] So I love the front office aspect of it.
[01:04:08] And it's just really well done.
[01:04:10] Even though they kind of, you know, left out the fact the ace had the 2002 AL MVP,
[01:04:14] but I digress and, uh, and a saa, in a, in a, the best rotation in baseball.
[01:04:20] Anyways, uh, so that was a good movie.
[01:04:22] I thought it was really well done.
[01:04:23] Jonah hell Brad Pitt phenomenal, phenomenal, great job.
[01:04:27] Non-baseball movie is, I'm thinking between three.
[01:04:34] First one is episode three, Revenge of the Sith,
[01:04:36] the Star Wars, one of the best movies ever.
[01:04:39] Acting is excellent.
[01:04:40] I could recite a lot of the lines.
[01:04:43] It's like deep, detailed, emotional, like the most fleshed out Star Wars film there is.
[01:04:48] It peaked then, went downhill after, unfortunately.
[01:04:53] Next up, another Star Wars movie, Rogue One, one of like one of the most underrated movies
[01:04:58] I feel like ever.
[01:05:00] The story is great.
[01:05:01] The cinematics of it. It takes the older Star Wars stories, like the
[01:05:08] story building and the thought process and the character development and all of that.
[01:05:17] And then paired it with the cinematics and the sort of visual greatness of the new movies.
[01:05:26] And it was the perfect combination.
[01:05:28] Like the Death Star and 4K HD, fucking incredible.
[01:05:33] Amazing.
[01:05:35] So, and once you like catch up on all the Star Wars lore
[01:05:39] and you watch the cartoons and you watch say like Andor
[01:05:42] and all this stuff and you get tied into all the other characters they feature in that film like
[01:05:48] Saw Guerra and Cassie and Andor and others and continues on and on and on and on
[01:05:53] super cool and
[01:05:55] Then the last one if I want like a laffer catty shack
[01:05:59] Like the I will argue the most quotable movie of all time is Caddy Shack. If you sit me down to watch Caddy Shack,
[01:06:08] I could probably quote the whole movie.
[01:06:10] You can like find a quote from the movie for every situation in real life.
[01:06:14] It is that funny.
[01:06:15] And this is coming from someone who doesn't like old movies.
[01:06:18] That one is a classic and one of the best ever.
[01:06:22] I'm taking half of Gilmore more of a Caddy Shack, sorry.
[01:06:26] Mm-hmm.
[01:06:27] Mm-hmm.
[01:06:28] Have you ever heard about Ty Burrell's round of golf with the Dalai Lama?
[01:06:33] It's amazing.
[01:06:34] Well, the problem is, I mean, I really do need to sit down and watch Caddy Shack again start
[01:06:39] to finish because I've only seen it in parts.
[01:06:40] I need to watch it all the way through.
[01:06:42] But I was even trying to think of other movies for the two of us that we could even rattle off here because I knew with the two of us it was going
[01:06:48] to be sports movies, it was going to be, you know, comedies and it was going to be probably Star Wars.
[01:06:52] Like, I mean, the only other ones that come to mind are probably other comedy movies. Like,
[01:06:56] I like wedding crashers a lot. I think that's a really good movie. That's a good one. I was
[01:07:01] trying to think about others that like that really kind of come to mind of
[01:07:06] Like oh what movies do I love to sit down and watch but it's kind of it's kind of all in that realm for me at least
[01:07:14] Yeah, and the problem is with me lately. I just haven't watched enough good movies like I haven't I haven't watched enough movies period
[01:07:20] Oppenheimer was amazing. I don't know if I would put it like way up there on my terms list. I need to watch it a few more times to solidly put it up there. And like it was
[01:07:30] it's kind of like dramatic. I liked a little bit more like either sci-fi or light-hearted movies for
[01:07:35] it to be that way instead of like a nonfiction film like Oppenheimer was. But like something like
[01:07:41] that for example or if they were to come out with a new Star Wars movie, I'd probably watch it.
[01:07:45] It probably won't be as good, but I buy it, so it might be up there.
[01:07:48] Right. Yeah, I'd probably watch it too. Yeah, I don't watch that many, I feel like Oscar type movies, and I probably should, in the sense of, like I saw Argo a while back, and that was good, but I like those type of movies, I feel like I don't sit down and watch that much. Those ones that are, you know, in Oscar nominations and people like go out of their way to sit down in the theater and really
[01:08:07] watch, I guess like you, it's either lighthearted stuff or it's sci-fi that I watch. But hey, just
[01:08:12] that's just who we are, I guess, right? So yeah, well, that was a really good round of mailbag
[01:08:19] questions. I got to say, like round of applause to all our listeners and fans that sent in some
[01:08:24] really good ones, like we say, like we love answering to all our listeners and fans that sent in some really good ones,
[01:08:25] like we say, like we love answering Mariners questions
[01:08:27] and there's always gonna be a good handful
[01:08:29] of them included in these, but when people really
[01:08:31] kind of get out of the box and think hard
[01:08:33] about some creative questions for us,
[01:08:35] we always appreciate it because I think they spark
[01:08:38] some creative answers.
[01:08:39] Hell, the two of us sat here and debated for 10 plus minutes
[01:08:43] or whatever it was about would you corral
[01:08:46] all the all time great mariners
[01:08:47] if it meant 20 years without a post-season drought
[01:08:49] and we sat here debating it.
[01:08:50] So those questions are fun.
[01:08:53] That was a fun one, dog.
[01:08:55] I mean, just telling you, I want to relive 2001 again.
[01:08:59] I want it.
[01:09:00] Yeah.
[01:09:01] I mean, I have no memory of it.
[01:09:02] I mean, not real memories of it.
[01:09:04] So yeah, I'd love to relive it, not for 20 years without another post using appearance. That's
[01:09:08] all. So shout out to all the listeners, shout out to all the fans. You guys did a great
[01:09:12] job with these mailbags. When we keep doing mailbags, seriously, keep them coming because
