[00:00:00] Welcome to episode number 119 of the Marine Layer Podcast.

[00:00:03] We have our two Mariners storylines, Ty France and the third base platoon are tearing the

[00:00:08] cover off the ball.

[00:00:10] We have our mailbag and we'll close out the show with Speak Your Mind.

[00:00:40] And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer Podcast, part of the Just Baseball

[00:00:49] Podcast Network recording here on Thursday evening, April 11th on an off day.

[00:00:57] And I hope Cal Raleigh made it back to the country.

[00:00:59] Did they see him at the border?

[00:01:02] They did not and I can confirm that he did make it back to the country because here

[00:01:06] on this off day, I saw the Mariners had a team event tonight.

[00:01:09] Not a team event, but it was for Scott Service's charity event.

[00:01:12] So that was back in the Seattle area.

[00:01:14] I saw pictures of Cal Raleigh at it.

[00:01:16] Therefore, he was not held up in Canada.

[00:01:19] Good for the Mariners.

[00:01:20] That's good.

[00:01:21] I feel like they could hold a grudge against him though and find an excuse to seize his

[00:01:26] visa.

[00:01:27] Like, uh-uh, buddy, this doesn't come without repercussions.

[00:01:32] Wouldn't that actually hurt the Blue Jays?

[00:01:34] Because that would mean he'd stay in Canada and continue to just torch baseballs in Canada,

[00:01:38] probably against the Blue Jays.

[00:01:39] But he couldn't play for the Mariners.

[00:01:41] It's like addition by subtraction.

[00:01:43] Well, maybe despite John Schneider's efforts, they were unsuccessful.

[00:01:49] Does he have any lobbying power with the border agents?

[00:01:52] I don't think so.

[00:01:53] I don't think so.

[00:01:54] Shout out to Cal though.

[00:01:56] I know he eventually at the end of last year when he had his, when he made his

[00:02:01] displeasures about the team.

[00:02:02] And he apologized and decided that wasn't the right thing to say.

[00:02:08] Well, when he was clapping back at John Schneider again after this series, he didn't

[00:02:13] hold back.

[00:02:14] Like, I thought he might be a little bit more reserved.

[00:02:18] It's okay to say like, oh, I don't really pay attention to things other people

[00:02:20] say.

[00:02:21] No, no, he knew.

[00:02:23] He very well knew.

[00:02:26] He roasted John Schneider, but honestly in the nicest way possible.

[00:02:30] He said, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all, which

[00:02:33] is what they teach you in first, second, third grade.

[00:02:37] And Cal's bringing that back to life to John Schneider.

[00:02:39] It's like, hey, basic rule of thumb, buddy, the golden rule.

[00:02:41] Treat other people how you want to be traded.

[00:02:43] You're going to tell me I'm not a tough guy to pitch to.

[00:02:46] You know what I do instead?

[00:02:47] I come back and haunt you this year, next year, and the next year, and the

[00:02:52] next year, and the next year.

[00:02:53] And he's going to continue to do it too.

[00:02:55] Like how much of a fuck you was it in the game three?

[00:02:59] Right handed, hitting home run.

[00:03:01] He does not do that.

[00:03:02] How early does not hit opposite field home runs hitting right handed?

[00:03:06] He does not do that.

[00:03:08] But he did for the Blue Jays.

[00:03:10] And he did.

[00:03:12] Yeah.

[00:03:13] And he does it in Toronto.

[00:03:14] Not that he doesn't hit the Blue Jays well in Seattle, but it feels like in that building,

[00:03:19] it's taken to another level.

[00:03:21] Yeah.

[00:03:22] Well, shout out to Cal.

[00:03:25] He is a real J and shout out to the Mariners getting that much needed when on

[00:03:29] Wednesday.

[00:03:30] I mean, really, really, really needed that win.

[00:03:36] And we're talking about like shocker, Lyle, the game was saved by a miraculous play by

[00:03:42] the infield defense.

[00:03:44] The game is over in the ninth inning without great infield defensive play, which is not

[00:03:50] really not really something I expected.

[00:03:53] If Ernie Clement hits that ball six inches further and it's out of the reach of

[00:03:57] Jorge Polanco.

[00:03:58] What is the mood sitting here tonight recording this podcast?

[00:04:02] The season is over.

[00:04:04] Well, more or less.

[00:04:07] However, do you have a counter argument?

[00:04:13] I don't know because we joke over text season over almost every single day like almost

[00:04:17] any loss will send joking text back and forth saying seasons over.

[00:04:22] But what would we actually say here on the podcast?

[00:04:25] We'd probably be sitting here stewing frustrated saying how in the world are they going to fix

[00:04:31] this?

[00:04:32] We would have been talking about them scoring one run again.

[00:04:35] So shout out both Cal Raleigh and Jorge Polanco because they uplifted some spirits.

[00:04:41] Oh, and shout out our guy, friend of the pod, Taylor Sausato for reversing the mojo

[00:04:48] on Twitter.

[00:04:49] Shout out to you, Saus.

[00:04:50] For those who didn't see, he tweets probably three hours before the game.

[00:04:54] Babe Ruth is real.

[00:04:55] That's it.

[00:04:56] That's the tweet.

[00:04:57] Babe Ruth is real.

[00:04:58] So I know he hadn't tweeted anything in multiple weeks and I send that to TJ.

[00:05:02] I wake up and see that.

[00:05:03] I see that tweet.

[00:05:04] And I was like, I think my exact words were what the fuck is this with a bunch of laughing

[00:05:08] emojis because we said you don't believe that you just spent all last week telling

[00:05:13] the baseball hall of fame that it's fake.

[00:05:16] And then you say somebody on the team probably hacked his account or something

[00:05:20] and it's just messing with them.

[00:05:21] And then we started to realize, oh, maybe he's doing this to get the baseball gods on a

[00:05:25] supposed good side to try to reverse the bad mojo.

[00:05:29] Sure enough, the Mariners win 10 minutes after that game ends.

[00:05:33] Taylor Sausato quote tweets his own tweet with the winking face from WandaVision.

[00:05:39] I'm forgetting the actress's name, but the winking face from WandaVision being

[00:05:42] like, yeah, I got you.

[00:05:44] You see, I don't believe that.

[00:05:45] I just wanted a Mariners win and I wanted to reverse the mojo.

[00:05:47] So shout out Saus.

[00:05:49] Yeah, we can credit Saus to ending the slide and hopefully now that the baseball

[00:05:53] gods are back on the Mariners side.

[00:05:55] Hey, 15 in a row.

[00:05:57] Oh, the Mariners rip off 15 wins in a row for Taylor Sausato tweeting that Babe

[00:06:01] Ruth is real.

[00:06:03] Like somebody.

[00:06:04] We might have to sway him at that point.

[00:06:06] I think he might actually have to second guess himself.

[00:06:09] There's one of the TV outlets is going to have to do a story on him.

[00:06:12] Taylor Sausato reverses Mariners drinks.

[00:06:15] Question mark.

[00:06:17] So would he have to believe Babe Ruth is real at that point though?

[00:06:20] Because it worked.

[00:06:22] Hmm.

[00:06:23] Would he ever actually internally believe that or would he just tell people?

[00:06:27] Hey, you can spin PR however you want.

[00:06:31] Maybe he'd do that.

[00:06:32] Yeah.

[00:06:33] Yeah.

[00:06:34] So it always looks a lot better that way.

[00:06:35] So shout out Taylor Sausato.

[00:06:37] And I also love the uniform comments under it.

[00:06:41] It's like, are you all right?

[00:06:44] Blink twice.

[00:06:44] Blink twice if you're being kidnapped.

[00:06:47] Yeah.

[00:06:47] All these people saying somebody did you lose a bet sauce or like sauce?

[00:06:52] Are you okay, dude?

[00:06:53] Like this this ain't normal for you or there's a bunch of bunch of replies

[00:06:57] like that, which was hilarious.

[00:06:59] And then it was even more hilarious 10 minutes after that game ended.

[00:07:01] He wasted no time hopping on Twitter after that win being like, yeah, I got you guys.

[00:07:07] You'll have to when you're there today and and throughout this weekend.

[00:07:13] Seeing like, yeah, see, good job, man.

[00:07:15] You did it.

[00:07:16] Oh, we have a lot to talk about this weekend between that and between the Hall

[00:07:19] of Fame coming across this take.

[00:07:22] Yeah, there's a lot to catch up on.

[00:07:23] Yeah.

[00:07:24] Well, we look forward to hearing it.

[00:07:27] Let's get into our Mariners storylines and let's start with the latest

[00:07:31] drive line darling, Ty France.

[00:07:35] Through two weeks of the season, it looks like all of the stuff that

[00:07:38] Ty France went to drive line to work on.

[00:07:41] It looks like he's fixed.

[00:07:44] Wow.

[00:07:45] Through two weeks, it looks like he's totally fixed.

[00:07:48] Now we'll have to see it sustained for a long period of time.

[00:07:51] But right now, Ty France is hitting 316 with a 116 WRC plus and he hasn't

[00:07:58] even begun to hit for power yet.

[00:08:00] Let's just start with that.

[00:08:00] The dude is tearing the cover off the ball.

[00:08:03] He's barreling it up.

[00:08:04] He's hitting the ball hard.

[00:08:05] His baseball savante page is bright red.

[00:08:09] How much more could you ask from the guy for from the first two weeks?

[00:08:12] There's a reason they moved him way up in the lineup so fast.

[00:08:15] Just want some comparisons for how hard he's hitting the baseball.

[00:08:19] So he's currently hitting the ball a little over 95 miles an hour on average.

[00:08:23] Last year, the only player in majorly baseball who hit the ball harder

[00:08:27] on average than that was Aaron Judge.

[00:08:31] Correct.

[00:08:32] Oh, and he was like, he was an outlier.

[00:08:34] He was like outlier farther ahead than everyone else.

[00:08:37] In fact, Aaron Judge last year hit the ball three miles an hour

[00:08:40] harder than the second place, which was Ronald Acuna.

[00:08:43] So yeah, that was it.

[00:08:45] It's just Aaron Judge in front of Ty France in terms of what last year sample

[00:08:51] represented. Ty France, if you were to somehow keep this mark up the entire

[00:08:54] season would be ahead of Ronald Acuna and Shohio Taniyip last year.

[00:08:58] That's, uh, that's hitting the ball pretty dang hard.

[00:09:02] There's really no, no holes to poke in what Ty France has done so far.

[00:09:06] His strikeout rate has ticked up a little bit.

[00:09:09] But he's hitting the ball at the ideal launch angle.

[00:09:13] He's hitting it hard.

[00:09:14] He's barreling the baseball, the right combination of exit

[00:09:17] velocity and launch angle.

[00:09:19] Eventually some of this stuff's got to start flying over the fence.

[00:09:23] You would think.

[00:09:24] So that's the one area with Ty where you can say, this can still

[00:09:29] get a little bit better.

[00:09:30] He needs to start lifting the ball a little bit, which I'm sure

[00:09:33] that's going to come with time.

[00:09:34] He's hitting the ball this hard.

[00:09:35] You would think it's only a matter of time.

[00:09:37] It's interesting though.

[00:09:39] He's been a little bit of on the wrong side of luck with some

[00:09:44] of the extra base hits.

[00:09:45] So this fluctuates you, like there's two different pinpoints here to look at.

[00:09:50] Ty France has a sky high batting average on balls and play right now.

[00:09:54] His babbap is 429, which is not going to sustain.

[00:09:57] That's that cannot even come close to sustaining throughout a full season.

[00:10:01] But the flip side of that is Ty France, when you look at a

[00:10:05] player's Woba versus X Woba, meaning quality of contact.

[00:10:09] That's what that stat measures.

[00:10:11] He has been the unluckiest hitter in baseball.

[00:10:13] So his Woba sits at 325.

[00:10:15] His X Woba sits at 437.

[00:10:18] There is no bigger discrepancy in baseball right now through the first

[00:10:21] two weeks than Ty France in terms of those two categories.

[00:10:25] So what that says to me is hits are falling.

[00:10:28] He's just been really unlucky in terms of singles versus extra base hits.

[00:10:32] A lot of those singles have not turned into doubles yet.

[00:10:34] He only has two doubles.

[00:10:36] So you would think over time, more are going to start to accumulate.

[00:10:39] And I think I have the reason for why he's not hasn't had quite as many.

[00:10:42] He needs to pull the ball a little bit more.

[00:10:44] He's been very especially very heavy up the middle.

[00:10:47] I think it's nearly 60 percent of his base hits are going straight up the middle,

[00:10:51] which is fine.

[00:10:52] But that's the big part of the ballpark and Aaron and Aaron Judge.

[00:10:56] Ty France is not Aaron Judge.

[00:10:59] So he's not going to hit.

[00:11:00] He's not going to pelt 30 homers a year over the center field fence.

[00:11:04] He's only pulling the ball.

[00:11:05] A little under 20 percent of the time, which is an outlier low number for him.

[00:11:10] Small again, small sample over two weeks.

[00:11:12] His career average, for example, is about 37 percent pole percentage.

[00:11:16] He's at 18 right now.

[00:11:18] So if we want, I think the main reason for why he's not hitting for more power,

[00:11:22] it's I think I think it's it's squarely that his average launch angle

[00:11:26] is not too much different.

[00:11:28] You know what's funny?

[00:11:30] Well, looking at his exit velocities, his max exit velocity isn't is lower

[00:11:35] than it was last year.

[00:11:36] His average is just a lot higher.

[00:11:38] Like that speaks just the consistency of when he's putting the bat on the ball,

[00:11:42] not only is he he's hitting the baseball, but he's hitting the baseball in

[00:11:45] the right spot, right spot on the bat.

[00:11:47] It is finding the barrel so much more often, it seems like, than last season.

[00:11:52] Now, I think there's less really reason to worry for Ty France because

[00:11:56] there's one of two things are going to happen.

[00:11:58] Either his numbers are going to go down.

[00:12:01] His exit velocities are going down.

[00:12:03] His barrels will go down and his home runs will, you know, stay at a low mark

[00:12:07] like they are right now or they're going to eventually start matching the

[00:12:11] quality of contact and how hard he's hitting the baseball.

[00:12:14] Like that's those are the only two options that are going to happen.

[00:12:17] So it's either going down or it's going up.

[00:12:19] No, no real in between there.

[00:12:22] But there's another example here.

[00:12:23] I went back and I looked at JP Crawford's season last year when

[00:12:27] he first came off of the driveline and how long it took him to get

[00:12:30] his power stroke.

[00:12:32] Guess, Lyle, how many home runs did JP Crawford have in the first two

[00:12:35] months of last year?

[00:12:37] It took him a little bit to get going before we really saw those

[00:12:41] driveline results kick in.

[00:12:42] I'm going to say, well he had 19 last year, first two months, four.

[00:12:47] Three.

[00:12:49] Yes, not a lot.

[00:12:50] Just three.

[00:12:51] He hit it took him until September when he had seven in September and

[00:12:55] October.

[00:12:56] So that these things take a little, a little while and like Ty

[00:12:59] France could be at the point where, okay, I'm peppering a lot of

[00:13:01] line drives, but damaged fly balls, pull fly balls have not quite

[00:13:06] worked its way into the swing yet.

[00:13:08] And that could be a timing thing getting down a little bit earlier

[00:13:11] and getting out in front of the baseball instead of waiting for it

[00:13:13] to travel in and sort of hitting it up the middle the other way.

[00:13:16] So that's probably the only thing where Ty France is missing.

[00:13:20] Can he keep this up while also pulling the baseball because

[00:13:23] that is the peak damage profile.

[00:13:26] You know what's way up for Ty Francis here?

[00:13:29] His line drive rate.

[00:13:30] Now again, we're two weeks in, but here's the comparison.

[00:13:34] Last year's line driver eight was a little over 26%.

[00:13:38] Now it's over 46%.

[00:13:42] We're two weeks in.

[00:13:43] That's a 20% jump in terms of line drives off the bat at Ty France.

[00:13:47] We know last year he was grounded into a lot of double plays.

[00:13:50] He was popping balls up fairly weekly.

[00:13:52] It's a lot less of that right now.

[00:13:54] He is squaring balls up.

[00:13:55] And if he can just start to pull some of them, like you mentioned,

[00:13:58] you're going to see balls leave the ballpark because he is clearly hitting

[00:14:01] the ball with much more authority right now than he was all of last year.

[00:14:05] I don't think Ty France is going to sustain the season hitting the ball

[00:14:09] in an air and judge level.

[00:14:11] It would be a major improvement this year if Ty France ended the year

[00:14:14] with an average exit velocity over 90.

[00:14:16] That'd be good over 90 over 90s like 90 is about or good starts.

[00:14:22] And then once you get up to about 91 92, then you're entering

[00:14:25] in the pretty good territory.

[00:14:26] And then from then on, then you're on the air and judge scale.

[00:14:29] Now I'm not Aaron Judge, but you're on the pretty good scale because

[00:14:33] most major leaguers Aaron judge was 97 average last year.

[00:14:37] And then everyone else was about 94 and a half and lower just to put

[00:14:41] that into some perspective.

[00:14:42] So you'd be pretty good at 92 to 94.

[00:14:45] Right.

[00:14:46] So that's kind of what that's the zone for Ty France seems at

[00:14:50] his peak around 91 to 92.

[00:14:52] That's about that seems about how hard he hits the baseball.

[00:14:55] Yeah.

[00:14:56] And for reference for people, 95 miles an hour is considered a hard hitball.

[00:15:01] So if he's averaging just a little bit below that, that's good.

[00:15:04] That means he's hitting a lot of balls over 95 miles an hour.

[00:15:07] A lot of balls over 95.

[00:15:08] So that'd be great in terms of Ty's profile.

[00:15:11] Look, he's probably never going to walk much.

[00:15:13] That's never been part of his game.

[00:15:14] But if he goes back to hitting the way he was in 21 and certainly

[00:15:17] the early half of 2022 or even something close to that, doesn't

[00:15:20] have to walk that much.

[00:15:22] He gets on base because he gets hits plain and simple and will hit

[00:15:25] for doubles and will hit for a little bit of power.

[00:15:28] It's a very good sign the way he started in case anyone was curious.

[00:15:32] A driveline did not make him any faster though.

[00:15:34] Unfortunately.

[00:15:35] No, and I will say his OPS isn't through the roof yet.

[00:15:39] It's only at seven 18 despite having a decent WRC plus at one 16.

[00:15:43] But again, he's only got two extra base hits right now.

[00:15:46] They're both doubles.

[00:15:47] So when Ty starts to hit for more power combined with the profile

[00:15:50] he's got right now, that OPS is going to climb up.

[00:15:53] Don't don't actually like go back to the point I just mean, I kind

[00:15:57] of expect to maybe sprint speed to be a tiny bit faster than then

[00:16:01] it's then it's projecting right now.

[00:16:03] It really must just be the eye test over the actual results so for

[00:16:07] because they still have them as a 6th percentile runner.

[00:16:12] We heard Scott serve a say in spring training.

[00:16:14] He said thrilled with what Ty's done at driveline.

[00:16:18] I don't think you're going to see him steal on many bases.

[00:16:20] And I think that's true.

[00:16:22] Yeah, I think, yeah, I confirmed.

[00:16:25] I will agree with that.

[00:16:27] So Ty getting back to hitting the ball hard is a great sign.

[00:16:30] I think a lot of people felt like this was a possibility and

[00:16:33] to see it put into action now.

[00:16:36] Awesome.

[00:16:37] You know what a lot of people didn't expect as we transition

[00:16:40] here to our second storyline?

[00:16:42] The fact that the third base platoon is really hitting.

[00:16:47] And before we get to that, that's a little teaser.

[00:16:49] Before we dive into that topic, I want to talk to you guys about

[00:16:53] our friends over at Pagotius Pub 85.

[00:16:55] You want to go watch this third base platoon continue to tear

[00:16:57] the cover off the ball.

[00:16:59] Do it over there.

[00:17:00] You can head over to Pagotius Pub 85.

[00:17:02] That's over in Kirkland.

[00:17:03] They've got great happy hour specials, great food specials.

[00:17:05] You have an awesome time with your friends.

[00:17:07] There's darts.

[00:17:08] There's pool tables.

[00:17:09] Everything you need to have to go and have a good time.

[00:17:12] So you want happy hour drinks.

[00:17:14] Those are on Mondays and Fridays.

[00:17:15] Happy hours from two to six PM.

[00:17:17] You'll get three dollar domestic beers, four dollar

[00:17:19] manis and blue moons, four dollar Mac and Jacks, four dollar

[00:17:22] Wells and four dollar house wine.

[00:17:24] So you want some great pizza or a bunch of great food?

[00:17:27] You want to go play some games and watch some sports

[00:17:29] with your friends?

[00:17:30] That's your spot.

[00:17:31] It's Pagotius Pub 85 in Kirkland.

[00:17:35] So back to this third base platoon, Josh Rojas

[00:17:38] and Luis Arias through the first couple weeks of the season.

[00:17:43] They have really stung the ball, I think, harder

[00:17:47] than they've really put out a higher offensive production.

[00:17:51] And I think most people were expecting them to be more than I expected.

[00:17:55] If they were going to have any two week stretch this year,

[00:17:57] where they're going to have a combined 123 WRC plus,

[00:18:01] I think people would be pleasantly surprised.

[00:18:04] There's a little bit of unsustainability with the both of them.

[00:18:07] Rojas has a bad batting average on balls and play right now.

[00:18:10] A little bit under 500 Luis Arias is striking out 40% of the time.

[00:18:15] Those numbers, some of those numbers will not sustain themselves.

[00:18:18] We'll find out which ones actually do.

[00:18:20] But man, like it's like both of them have strung together some really solid at bats.

[00:18:26] I mean, Arias is getting dragged through the mud all spring.

[00:18:30] He's looked perfectly serviceable at the plate as an offensive as an offensive tandem.

[00:18:35] Here's something that's that's interesting.

[00:18:38] Like it's essentially so they're the fourth best hitting position on the team right now.

[00:18:44] Like fourth best, that's pretty solid.

[00:18:46] I mean, we expected this position to be what eighth right?

[00:18:50] Eighth about about eighth on the team.

[00:18:52] Like that's that's pretty crazy.

[00:18:53] And overall, here's one last banger of a stat.

[00:18:57] Eighth best hitting third base position in baseball.

[00:19:01] You say we expected them to be the eighth best hitting position on the team.

[00:19:05] Who was going to be ninth?

[00:19:06] I think a lot of you'll expect them to be dead last.

[00:19:08] Um, well, maybe an outlier bad season in the outfield injuries.

[00:19:15] That could be probably give or take.

[00:19:18] But people didn't expect a lot.

[00:19:20] And Luis Arias to your point, so he's striking out way too much.

[00:19:24] I don't think he's going to strike out 40% of the time all year.

[00:19:26] I think that's going to come down.

[00:19:27] I will give him credit.

[00:19:28] He is also walking a lot right now, well over 10%.

[00:19:33] And he's hitting the ball really hard.

[00:19:35] Now, he doesn't qualify for the savant.

[00:19:38] League leaderboards.

[00:19:39] He hasn't had enough of bats, but when you just look at his profile,

[00:19:42] it shows that he has stung the ball so far.

[00:19:44] Like he's hit it very hard and let's give the guy credit.

[00:19:46] He's had multiple clutch hits already in Milwaukee back in his old stomping

[00:19:50] grounds.

[00:19:51] He had the insurance home run and he had that double.

[00:19:55] So Arias is doing what he's been asked to do.

[00:19:57] And honestly, he's done so well also having a face a lot of right-handed

[00:20:01] pitching so far.

[00:20:02] He has faced more right-handed pitching than I expected Arias to in the

[00:20:07] early going of the season.

[00:20:08] Now, I think we started to see that real back a little bit.

[00:20:10] I would bet you will see him mostly just hit lefties moving forward,

[00:20:14] which is what he was brought here to do.

[00:20:16] Hit lefties.

[00:20:17] You know, Luis Arias has done against lefties in his short sample size so

[00:20:20] far.

[00:20:21] Hit the ball really hard.

[00:20:23] His OPS is well over 800 against left-handed hitters.

[00:20:27] Pretty sure I had that in my notes.

[00:20:28] Yeah.

[00:20:29] Yeah, I did.

[00:20:30] He is, he is OPSing over 800 against left-handed bats right now.

[00:20:33] 853 to be exact.

[00:20:34] Now very small sample, but he came here to hit lefties.

[00:20:39] He's hit lefties.

[00:20:40] Do you want to hear the names at third base that this platoon is better than

[00:20:43] this year so far?

[00:20:45] Manning Machado, Max Muncie, Raphael Devers, Nolan Aronato.

[00:20:53] Those are some notable names.

[00:20:56] I would like to add one.

[00:20:58] Yeah.

[00:20:59] Because I know again, I'm going to preface this by saying I know it's

[00:21:02] only two weeks.

[00:21:03] I'm ready.

[00:21:03] I, I, Matt Chapman.

[00:21:06] That's actually not where I was going.

[00:21:07] Whoa.

[00:21:09] So.

[00:21:09] Okay.

[00:21:09] But I think that's true actually still.

[00:21:11] Matt Chapman is another.

[00:21:12] But again, Josh Rojas currently has a 136 WRC plus.

[00:21:17] Luis Arias 104 WRC plus.

[00:21:20] He's crushing lefties.

[00:21:21] Again, Arias has an 853 OPS against left-handed bats right now,

[00:21:24] which is what he was brought here to do.

[00:21:26] The two of them have combined for an 0.2 F4 so far.

[00:21:31] Arias and Rojas, and you said they've combined for a 123 WRC plus.

[00:21:36] There is a current third baseman out there who has a 688 OPS, a 91 WRC plus,

[00:21:42] and also an 0.2 F4.

[00:21:44] His name is A. U. Henneos Suarez.

[00:21:46] So for everybody that saw the hot start and was freaking out,

[00:21:52] things can change pretty quickly, can't they?

[00:21:54] Because now all of a sudden those two positions have been

[00:21:57] equally productive and the Mariners believing that Suarez may lose a lot

[00:22:04] of bat speed moving forward.

[00:22:05] In fact, they think he lost a lot last year.

[00:22:07] He couldn't catch up to any of those high fastballs.

[00:22:10] Through two weeks in Arizona, he hasn't been great.

[00:22:14] Again, he's equally valuable right now to Arias and Rojas.

[00:22:17] He has not put up the offensive production that those two have.

[00:22:19] His OPS is below 700.

[00:22:22] So this third basepaltoon is doing okay.

[00:22:25] If the Mariners had Gino right now, they wouldn't really be in that

[00:22:28] much different position.

[00:22:30] I have one more name.

[00:22:31] Mm hmm.

[00:22:32] Who do you think it is?

[00:22:33] It's not Chapman.

[00:22:34] It's not Gino.

[00:22:35] It's not Manny.

[00:22:36] Relevant to this week.

[00:22:39] Relevant to this week.

[00:22:42] Is it Blue Jays?

[00:22:43] You made a big deal about him yesterday.

[00:22:46] Hmm.

[00:22:48] Yesterday.

[00:22:50] Kyle Seager.

[00:22:50] No, that would make sense.

[00:22:51] Kyle Seager.

[00:22:53] No.

[00:22:53] I don't know.

[00:22:54] And he let I'll give you one more shit, one more guess.

[00:22:57] If I made a big deal about him yesterday, this is so yesterday being

[00:23:01] Wednesday because we're recording this on Thursday.

[00:23:03] So I would assume this would be the Blue Jays.

[00:23:07] Abraham Toro.

[00:23:08] Ah, how could I forget?

[00:23:11] That's actually there was a suggestion out there that

[00:23:15] yeah, the Mariners should seriously consider going after him

[00:23:19] and putting him at DH because of what he was doing at the plate.

[00:23:24] That was a serious suggestion.

[00:23:26] By who?

[00:23:27] Me?

[00:23:28] No, underneath the tweet you made.

[00:23:31] Yeah.

[00:23:31] So so for those who haven't seen the tweet, I'm sitting there

[00:23:34] watching the Wednesday Blue Jays Mariners game.

[00:23:36] It's one one going into the ninth inning.

[00:23:38] The Mariners have not given Logan Gilbert basically any run support.

[00:23:41] And it obviously had been a tough couple of series to begin with.

[00:23:44] And I'm sitting there saying, you know, when or lose.

[00:23:48] I think I've got a funny idea for a tweet that could also

[00:23:51] piss TJ off the minute he sees it.

[00:23:54] And there is a there.

[00:23:55] I think it's Matthew McConaughey's voice.

[00:23:57] Sometimes you have to go back in order to go forward.

[00:24:01] And I took that took that audio bed and put a bunch of

[00:24:06] Abe Toro highlights in the Mariners, you know, in the Mariners

[00:24:08] uniform across it.

[00:24:09] And it actually got some people talking on Twitter and somebody commented.

[00:24:13] TJ was already mad the second he saw it.

[00:24:15] Shocker as we talked about on the pod.

[00:24:17] You don't want to get TJ going about Abe Toro.

[00:24:19] You want to get his blood pressure to rise?

[00:24:21] That's where you go.

[00:24:22] And somebody responds in the comments, you know, he's actually

[00:24:25] hitting pretty well in Oakland right now.

[00:24:27] The Mariners should get him back.

[00:24:29] Absolutely not.

[00:24:31] I refuse.

[00:24:34] You responded with those exact words to that person.

[00:24:37] Absolutely not quote unquote.

[00:24:40] So yes, John Rojas and Luis Arias better than Abe Toro.

[00:24:44] Yeah.

[00:24:44] Oh, confirmed.

[00:24:46] Yeah, I can confirm that.

[00:24:47] Yeah.

[00:24:47] Shout out to them though.

[00:24:48] Like it is certainly if they keep up a 126 WRC plus might have to

[00:24:53] carve for the whole season might have to carve out a space in the

[00:24:56] Mariners Hall of Fame for these two.

[00:24:58] That would be a historic achievement.

[00:25:01] So I will say I would love to see Josh Rojas up the walks a bit.

[00:25:06] It's two weeks.

[00:25:07] Things can change drastically moving forward and especially within

[00:25:11] the span of a couple of games, but this is a guy who's walked

[00:25:14] a lot in his career.

[00:25:15] He's not really walking right now at all.

[00:25:17] And he didn't walk a ton last year.

[00:25:18] Not at the rate he was walking in Arizona.

[00:25:21] So I would love to see Josh Rojas pick that walk rate up as the season

[00:25:24] moves forward, because if he can be a 10% walk rate guy like he's been a

[00:25:27] lot of his career, that is an additional facet to his game.

[00:25:30] They can play a big factor and Arias, he shouldn't strike out this much.

[00:25:35] He like over his career, the numbers say he should not strike out this

[00:25:39] much.

[00:25:39] I'm assuming it's going to come down.

[00:25:41] I just hope with him.

[00:25:42] The power can remain somewhat consistent.

[00:25:45] He can stay on the field and he walks.

[00:25:50] Or Arias has always been a guy that walks too.

[00:25:51] So if he can draw some walks, that's a couple of big keys for these guys.

[00:25:55] Obviously, Arias is probably not going to hit 300, but if he can have

[00:25:59] some power, if they just play him against lefties, which is what

[00:26:02] he's best suited to do, he can play a role here.

[00:26:06] And hopefully they can, these two not playing every day will find

[00:26:09] a way to stay consistent.

[00:26:11] Like that's probably the biggest worry here, not getting thrown

[00:26:14] out of your timing with not getting to, not getting to play,

[00:26:17] not getting to play every day.

[00:26:18] But overall though, through two weeks, I mean, the offense you cannot complain about.

[00:26:24] Now probably she'll dry looking at the OAA numbers, 26th in baseball,

[00:26:30] outs above average.

[00:26:31] Yeah.

[00:26:31] Okay.

[00:26:31] That if we're missing Gino anywhere, we're missing him, missing him right there.

[00:26:36] Well, notice when I read Gino's numbers, I didn't mention the defense.

[00:26:40] Right.

[00:26:40] Yeah, exactly.

[00:26:41] Of course Gino is the better defender.

[00:26:43] We know that.

[00:26:44] But again, by value, you compare the F-Wars.

[00:26:47] They're the same right now.

[00:26:48] Yeah.

[00:26:48] So the Mariners would not be in any different position right now with A.

[00:26:51] Hennios Juarez than they'd be with Luis Arias and Josh Rojas.

[00:26:54] Yeah, you're right, which is why I say it's just so, so ironic

[00:26:59] Wednesdays, the Wednesday game and was saved by a miraculous defense

[00:27:04] of infield play, albeit at at second base.

[00:27:07] I don't know if the defense gets any better.

[00:27:08] I don't think the defense of that position gets any better.

[00:27:11] They're just people are just going to have to close their eyes and hope

[00:27:14] they make that play as the season goes on.

[00:27:17] Arias did say he was on one of the root post game interviews in the Milwaukee

[00:27:21] series, it was after the Saturday game, I believe.

[00:27:23] And he said when asked about how's your arm feeling, he said, yeah,

[00:27:27] it feels good now.

[00:27:28] I'm feeling good over there.

[00:27:29] Now, I don't think that's going to mean his defense is going

[00:27:31] to take some massive step forward, but maybe instead of spike

[00:27:35] involves in the dirt like we saw in the second game of the season,

[00:27:37] which forced Ty France to make a really nice pick over at first base.

[00:27:42] He'll put some more accurate throws right in the chest of Ty France.

[00:27:45] And at least that asset or that facet will be cleaned up a little bit.

[00:27:49] My hope.

[00:27:50] Yeah, that's your hope.

[00:27:51] So we know he had some injuries in the like going into camp and all

[00:27:56] that stuff.

[00:27:57] And the fact that he said, oh, my arm feels much better now.

[00:28:00] That's a nice sign.

[00:28:01] Hopefully again, if the range isn't going to get much better,

[00:28:04] hopefully at least the throws across the diamond can be more accurate.

[00:28:07] And they have been more accurate in the last couple of games.

[00:28:09] Good.

[00:28:11] Yeah.

[00:28:11] Yeah.

[00:28:12] Well, should we get to the mailbag?

[00:28:14] Let's do it.

[00:28:16] This won't be a full mailbag.

[00:28:18] Obviously we had some storylines to get to, but we did want to do a mailbag episode.

[00:28:22] We wanted to take some questions.

[00:28:23] So we've got a handful here.

[00:28:24] We've got them lined up.

[00:28:26] The first one we've got.

[00:28:28] Let me read the names of people that sent us these comments just to make

[00:28:31] sure we're giving them a nice little shout out here.

[00:28:34] But first question comes from Zach Rector 20 on Instagram.

[00:28:38] He says, how worried are you?

[00:28:41] About Julio, this could have been a storyline in itself.

[00:28:44] Not worried.

[00:28:47] I'm not worried.

[00:28:49] I don't love that he continues to get off to slow starts in April.

[00:28:52] This also happens to be the worst of the three starts he's gotten off to.

[00:28:56] We're talking about a 44 WRC plus right now.

[00:28:59] I know who Leo is going to figure it out.

[00:29:01] He is the last player on the team I'm worried about.

[00:29:04] But when they need him to win games early in April, doesn't

[00:29:07] help that he's putting up those offensive numbers outside of the

[00:29:10] game winning against the Red Sox.

[00:29:12] It is a little bit frustrating because as we know, they missed the playoffs

[00:29:16] by two games last year.

[00:29:17] These April games do matter.

[00:29:19] I think we can use different terminology.

[00:29:21] I'm not worried about Julio.

[00:29:22] I'm just kind of, I would say I'm disappointed with the fast starts.

[00:29:25] I'm sure he understands he needs to play better in April.

[00:29:28] But he knows that.

[00:29:30] And I think it really boils down to he's got us just hit the ball in the air.

[00:29:35] He's having no problems sculling the baseball right now.

[00:29:38] The problem is he's mashing it like at unideal launch angles.

[00:29:43] You got to hit the ball in the air to do damage.

[00:29:46] And he hasn't done that so far.

[00:29:47] If he was hitting more fly balls right now, he would be doing significantly better.

[00:29:52] I'm sure of it.

[00:29:52] He would have a couple of home runs by now because he's like in the Blue J series,

[00:29:58] he was scalding the baseball, but he didn't have any, he didn't have much to show for it.

[00:30:03] Would you like some numbers to contextualize that?

[00:30:06] Sure.

[00:30:07] His fly ball rate last year, 24 and a half percent.

[00:30:09] Right now it sits at 12.1%.

[00:30:12] He's not hitting the ball in the air at all basically.

[00:30:15] He's hitting the ball hard.

[00:30:17] There are now his savant page is about league average in terms of his

[00:30:20] hard hit profile right now.

[00:30:21] There are points I should say where Julio has hit the ball hard like we

[00:30:24] saw in the Toronto series, but those hard hit balls have been low line

[00:30:28] drives and ground balls.

[00:30:29] They haven't been fly balls and the fly ball plus hard hit ball.

[00:30:32] That's where the power in the home run start to play into.

[00:30:36] It starts to play a factor.

[00:30:36] That's where the damage happens.

[00:30:38] We haven't seen that yet.

[00:30:39] And it continues to just be when I say like disappointed in Julio, like we

[00:30:45] just, we cannot say enough how much this team goes as Julio goes.

[00:30:50] How many of these Mariners problems would not exist if Julio Rodriguez was

[00:30:53] scorched earth the first two weeks of the season?

[00:30:55] Do you know how to be complaining as much?

[00:30:57] Probably not.

[00:30:58] Probably not.

[00:31:00] I don't think we'd be complaining all that much to be honest.

[00:31:02] I'm, I didn't mean to speak for you, but I'm pretty confident to say we'd be

[00:31:06] complaining a whole lot less if the Mariners managed to get average

[00:31:10] pitching in an unbelievable Julio for two weeks.

[00:31:13] Like think like how many problems that solves for the Mariners if he's

[00:31:16] able to do that?

[00:31:17] I mean, we saw what happened in August.

[00:31:19] 100%

[00:31:19] Tells everything.

[00:31:20] Tells the entire story.

[00:31:22] So when Julio is unable to do what Julio usually does, it magnifies

[00:31:27] everything else, which we don't like, which is not a good thing.

[00:31:32] 100%.

[00:31:33] That's all I was going to say.

[00:31:34] You can speak for me because I was going to say the same thing is 100%.

[00:31:38] That's true.

[00:31:39] I think, I think obviously he's going to turn it around.

[00:31:43] Obviously we'd love to see him get off to some faster starts because we

[00:31:46] talked about how important a fast start in April would be for him.

[00:31:49] And yeah, I think there would be a lot less to talk about right now

[00:31:52] if Julio was going off.

[00:31:53] The Mariners are five and eight right now.

[00:31:55] If Julio was scorching the ball already, they'd be what?

[00:32:00] Probably have an additional at least one win, maybe two, maybe

[00:32:03] there'd be seven and six right now.

[00:32:05] And we'd be talking about eight and five or that.

[00:32:08] And then we just talk about, okay, the starting pitching needs to get

[00:32:11] a little bit better.

[00:32:11] But you know what?

[00:32:12] You know what nobody's worried about?

[00:32:14] The effectiveness of this starting rotation because Luis Castillo, George Kirby,

[00:32:18] everybody is way too good to keep this up all year.

[00:32:21] Right.

[00:32:21] But Julio is not hitting right now.

[00:32:22] So it's a little bit more of a magnified story that the offense

[00:32:26] was the highlighted issue a lot of last year.

[00:32:29] And so far through 13 games, it's been up and down so far this year.

[00:32:34] It just, and again, disappointing.

[00:32:36] It, I know Julio probably feels that this shouldn't be happening, but

[00:32:42] you know, it is, it really, it, what?

[00:32:45] No, at some point we're going to look back on this and laugh because

[00:32:48] again, you're not worried about Julio Rodriguez at some point.

[00:32:51] He's going to break out of this by going 13 for 20 with a couple

[00:32:55] of home runs and stolen bases, a couple of great plays in the field.

[00:32:57] They'll put it behind them.

[00:32:58] But yes, these games all matter in April.

[00:33:00] We saw the Mariners miss the playoffs by two games last year.

[00:33:02] They got off to a slow start.

[00:33:04] They have gotten off to some slow starts the last few years and it hasn't

[00:33:07] helped them.

[00:33:08] Mm hmm.

[00:33:08] Think of it.

[00:33:09] I think believe exactly one year ago was that when they blew that game

[00:33:12] against the Cubs, right?

[00:33:14] Just for some perspective.

[00:33:17] Is that right?

[00:33:18] Was that a year ago today when they went up big and Chris

[00:33:20] Flexin gave up eight runs or something like that?

[00:33:23] No, I didn't know.

[00:33:24] Here's the story.

[00:33:25] You and I start with eight one.

[00:33:27] You and I are like, all right, let's record now games over.

[00:33:30] Right.

[00:33:30] I think that's how it was.

[00:33:32] I forgot in the middle of it.

[00:33:35] Look, it's like what?

[00:33:39] I'm pretty sure that's what it was.

[00:33:42] You know, now that you say that, that rings a bell.

[00:33:45] That was not fun.

[00:33:46] No, no.

[00:33:48] And the probably the last time we tried recording during a game

[00:33:51] unless it was an emergency.

[00:33:52] Mm hmm.

[00:33:55] That was funny.

[00:33:55] We were pretty early on back then.

[00:33:57] So you know what?

[00:33:58] We learn as we go.

[00:33:59] Yeah, yeah, we do.

[00:34:00] Before we get to our next mail bag question, let's hear from

[00:34:04] game time.

[00:34:04] Have you ever tried getting tickets to see your favorite

[00:34:06] team this season and either the price was too high, the seats

[00:34:09] are bad, the interface wasn't usable or something else?

[00:34:12] That sure happened to all of us more than we could count.

[00:34:15] That won't happen with game time.

[00:34:16] Game time is now an authorized ticket marketplace of major

[00:34:20] league baseball, which makes getting tickets even faster and

[00:34:23] easier.

[00:34:23] Prices on the game time app actually go down the closer you

[00:34:27] get to first pitch.

[00:34:28] Mariners versus Cubs this weekend guys, I'm seeing tickets

[00:34:31] for as low as $28 tonight on Friday, $30 on Saturday and

[00:34:36] $25 on Sunday.

[00:34:37] You can save even more money with zone deals where you

[00:34:40] choose the section and game time chooses the seats.

[00:34:43] ShopSmart are all in pricing feature where you don't

[00:34:46] have any surprise fees at checkout.

[00:34:49] Take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time.

[00:34:52] Download the game time app, create an account and use code

[00:34:54] just baseball for $20 off your first purchase.

[00:34:57] In terms of ply again, create an account and redeem code

[00:35:01] JUSTBASEBALL for $20 off.

[00:35:06] Download the game time app today.

[00:35:07] Last minute tickets lowest price guaranteed.

[00:35:11] Okay, the next question on the mail bag.

[00:35:14] This comes from Instagram as well.

[00:35:16] Zach Olson with an O with a zero sorry, instead of an

[00:35:20] O in the Olson.

[00:35:21] Could we see Ryan Bliss up within the next month that the

[00:35:25] offense continues to struggle?

[00:35:28] I don't think so.

[00:35:29] And I think there's two reasons for that.

[00:35:31] Number one asking a prospect to come up and save quote

[00:35:35] unquote an offense or even spark plug in offense purely

[00:35:39] because of desperation is fairly irresponsible.

[00:35:43] Now these two guys are much different levels of

[00:35:45] prospects, but I am going to use the example.

[00:35:47] 2021 the Mariners offense struggled out of the gate.

[00:35:50] They asked Jared Kellnick after six games into coma to come up

[00:35:53] and try to save the offense.

[00:35:55] And it didn't go well.

[00:35:56] Didn't go all at all.

[00:35:57] It didn't do Kellnick any favors.

[00:35:58] It didn't do the Mariners any favors.

[00:36:01] I don't think they should be doing that with Ryan Bliss

[00:36:03] just because they feel like the offense in this scenario

[00:36:07] isn't where they want it to be.

[00:36:09] If Ryan Bliss isn't ready if bliss is ready in a month,

[00:36:12] then great.

[00:36:13] That's another story.

[00:36:14] But I think Ryan Bliss needs a little more time in Tacoma

[00:36:16] because my second reason here is he's currently got a 66 WRC

[00:36:20] plus in Tacoma.

[00:36:21] Last year he started slow, got hot toward the end of the

[00:36:24] year.

[00:36:25] He still only put up a 97 WRC plus down there when it was

[00:36:28] all said and done at the end of 2023.

[00:36:30] So he's only played about 70 games in AAA.

[00:36:33] I think you need to let him be fully ready, dominate PCL

[00:36:36] pitching and then let him come up without any issues

[00:36:40] when he is fully ready.

[00:36:41] But to yank him up after a month just because you feel

[00:36:43] like hypothetically the offense when isn't in a great spot.

[00:36:47] I don't think that's a great idea for the team or for

[00:36:49] Ryan Bliss himself.

[00:36:51] And if you were to choose a prospect to be the quote

[00:36:54] unquote save the offense prospect, it's not like no

[00:36:56] offense to Ryan Bliss.

[00:36:57] It's probably not him.

[00:36:59] He's not not that kind of prospect.

[00:37:02] Yeah, he can play a nice role, but I don't like the

[00:37:06] reaction when Ryan Bliss gets called up.

[00:37:08] He'll be people will be very excited.

[00:37:09] I'm excited for him will be excited for him.

[00:37:12] Like we talked to Ryan Bliss in spring training.

[00:37:13] He was awesome.

[00:37:14] Not only is he a very good player, but really good dude too.

[00:37:17] But I don't think the fan perception for a Ryan Bliss

[00:37:20] call up would be the same as a Cole Young call up, for example.

[00:37:25] Cole Young is more and he and even Cole Young's not

[00:37:27] quite this type of hitter, but Cole Young would be more a.

[00:37:31] Oh, this team really wants to spark plug this offense.

[00:37:35] Look who they're calling up.

[00:37:36] That's a little more that scenario opposed to Ryan

[00:37:39] Bliss. Ryan Bliss is a guy that you'll see him play second

[00:37:42] base.

[00:37:42] He'll he'll probably put two in a little bit and in time you

[00:37:46] could see him turn into a very productive second baseman

[00:37:49] because he's proven to be a very good bat in the minor

[00:37:51] leagues, but I don't think he's that at least Jared

[00:37:54] Kelley type prospect level that really could turn an

[00:37:58] entire offense around.

[00:38:00] So again with Ryan Bliss, the best thing you can do for

[00:38:02] him is let him be ready when you call him up so then

[00:38:04] he can play the role that he needs to play.

[00:38:06] There's one prospect in all of baseball who's a

[00:38:09] save the offense type of prospect and the Orioles called

[00:38:12] him up this week.

[00:38:13] That's it.

[00:38:13] He's the only one.

[00:38:15] Right.

[00:38:15] That's it.

[00:38:16] The only one I would classify as that kind of guy.

[00:38:19] Right.

[00:38:20] And obviously he's in a loaded system.

[00:38:22] He doesn't need to save any sort of save any sort like he

[00:38:26] would Jackson holiday was batting ninth when he got

[00:38:27] when he when he got called up.

[00:38:29] Right.

[00:38:29] That's that's how you're supposed to treat these guys

[00:38:31] and let them sort of ease into it.

[00:38:33] I think it does nothing but a disservice to try and

[00:38:36] treat Ryan Bliss like that.

[00:38:37] Oh, no pressure or team can't hit.

[00:38:39] You have to solve it.

[00:38:40] Congratulations.

[00:38:41] That's not a way to go.

[00:38:42] It also like just looking at the offense is currently

[00:38:44] structured.

[00:38:45] Who is exactly is he replacing?

[00:38:47] Right.

[00:38:48] Third base units pulling their weight.

[00:38:49] We just highlighted that.

[00:38:51] Ty Francis pulling his weight.

[00:38:52] We also just highlighted that you were placing

[00:38:55] Jorge Plonko.

[00:38:57] No.

[00:38:57] Are you replacing JB Crawford?

[00:39:00] No.

[00:39:01] Okay.

[00:39:01] Well, are you going to put him at DH and and

[00:39:06] replace Mitch Garver?

[00:39:07] I don't think so.

[00:39:08] Right.

[00:39:09] So like doesn't like it feels like that kind of

[00:39:12] answers the question.

[00:39:14] So maybe he play a bench roll if he got called up

[00:39:16] and see a couple starts a week.

[00:39:18] But again, I don't know if that moves the needle

[00:39:21] in terms of full offensive production of an entire team.

[00:39:25] And so look, and it does him no favors.

[00:39:27] That is a disservice to Ryan Bliss to call him

[00:39:30] up and stick him on the bench.

[00:39:32] That's true too.

[00:39:33] Look, I mean, it's not, I shouldn't even say

[00:39:36] not a bad question.

[00:39:37] It's a good question.

[00:39:38] People want to know when Ryan Bliss could get up.

[00:39:39] And I think we may see him this year.

[00:39:41] I just don't think it's going to be in the next month

[00:39:45] personally when he's got a 66 WRC plus right now

[00:39:49] into coma.

[00:39:49] It's early.

[00:39:50] He's only played about 10 games, but I think

[00:39:53] that's the best thing this team can do for Ryan

[00:39:54] Bliss is just give him his time to develop.

[00:39:56] And when he's ready, call him up.

[00:39:58] If I had to guess when we'd see bliss, I would

[00:40:00] guess somewhere in the middle of the summer.

[00:40:03] And I don't think they're going to call him up

[00:40:05] because the Major League team is not hitting.

[00:40:08] In summer.

[00:40:09] No, it'll be because Ryan Bliss himself is ready.

[00:40:12] Right.

[00:40:12] Correct.

[00:40:14] So yeah, again, certainly a good question.

[00:40:17] People want to know what's up with Ryan Bliss.

[00:40:19] I just think that might be a little bit of a premature

[00:40:21] call up if they were to do it that soon.

[00:40:23] So that's my guess.

[00:40:24] Obviously we're giving our best guesses here.

[00:40:25] We don't know for sure, but we'll see what happens.

[00:40:28] Hopefully they don't need Ryan Bliss to save an offense.

[00:40:31] Hopefully when Ryan Bliss comes up, this offense

[00:40:33] is firing on all cylinders and he only helps.

[00:40:35] Yeah.

[00:40:36] Yeah.

[00:40:37] Okay.

[00:40:37] Third question.

[00:40:39] This question comes from to YouTube question from Nathan

[00:40:44] Starosta on YouTube.

[00:40:47] Do you believe Scott's service is on the hot seat this season?

[00:40:52] It's, I don't think he is.

[00:40:56] But on the other side, it's hard to argue the fact

[00:40:58] he still does not have an extension for next year.

[00:41:02] Sure, he's tied in with Jerry, but you know, this is a

[00:41:05] Scott's service question and not a Jerry question.

[00:41:08] So could he be coaching for his job?

[00:41:11] Whether that be in the eyes of Jerry, whether that be

[00:41:14] in the eyes of himself, and he makes the decision

[00:41:16] that he wouldn't want to be here after next year?

[00:41:20] Like it's kind of hard to argue against managers

[00:41:24] who aren't on the hot seat have guaranteed years

[00:41:28] in the future and Scott's service doesn't.

[00:41:32] I don't know if that decisions one sided or not.

[00:41:35] I don't know if that's a Mariners don't want to extend them

[00:41:37] type of thing.

[00:41:39] That could be a Scott's service decision.

[00:41:40] If I were to have to pick between one of the two sides,

[00:41:44] that's the side I'm picking.

[00:41:46] I don't know that for sure.

[00:41:47] We don't have any way to confirm that, but that's what

[00:41:50] it feels like to me because the Mariners are not going

[00:41:54] out and hiring Craig Council, for example, they're

[00:41:57] not making some splash of a managerial hire like that.

[00:42:00] So the clubhouse loves Scott's service.

[00:42:04] He is the trust of his players, like players love playing

[00:42:07] for him.

[00:42:08] He clearly works very well with the front office.

[00:42:11] It's a pretty good seamless fit.

[00:42:14] So the only reason to me why Scott's service would

[00:42:17] not be back next year is because it would be his

[00:42:21] choice.

[00:42:21] It's hard to replace Scott's service.

[00:42:23] There's always discourse online, right?

[00:42:25] But he has done a lot for this team.

[00:42:27] How many managers like we talked about are flying

[00:42:29] around the country, getting on the same page with

[00:42:31] all of his players in the off season because of

[00:42:33] something he didn't do, something that ownership

[00:42:35] did.

[00:42:36] And he decided to take matters into his own hands

[00:42:38] and make up for it.

[00:42:39] It's hard to find people out there like that.

[00:42:41] Andy's a very good manager, who makes sound

[00:42:44] decisions.

[00:42:45] Even if you don't always agree with them,

[00:42:46] he makes sound decisions like we talked about

[00:42:48] on the Wednesday episode with why they pulled

[00:42:50] Bryce Miller.

[00:42:51] Give a very good explanation for that.

[00:42:53] Scott's service isn't here next year.

[00:42:55] To answer the question, I don't think he is on

[00:42:57] the hot seat from ownership.

[00:42:58] I think Scott's service may be thinking about what

[00:43:02] is the best course of action for me in terms of

[00:43:05] my managerial career moving forward.

[00:43:09] And some of that probably has to do with Jerry too.

[00:43:11] What Jerry?

[00:43:12] Jerry's decision because they are tied in

[00:43:14] together.

[00:43:14] I don't think Scott's service is in Seattle

[00:43:17] without Jerry DePoto.

[00:43:18] Like if Jerry doesn't think this place is the

[00:43:21] future for him next year, then each of his

[00:43:23] decisions for him next year, then even if Scott

[00:43:26] really, really enjoys it, it just doesn't seem

[00:43:30] like he goes and works with someone else.

[00:43:32] It seems like those two are too intertwined

[00:43:35] from the start and Jerry hiring Scott when

[00:43:40] he got hired here in late 2015.

[00:43:43] Seems like that's always been the case.

[00:43:46] Scott's service should not be on the hot seat.

[00:43:49] If you're going through what make,

[00:43:51] like what qualities you want in a manager and

[00:43:54] what kind of process you want to make,

[00:43:58] have a successful clubhouse and have a,

[00:44:01] you know, successful ground level of your

[00:44:03] organization on the field, he checks all the

[00:44:05] boxes.

[00:44:06] So that should lead you to be pretty

[00:44:08] comfortable in your job.

[00:44:10] Let me make this once again as abundantly

[00:44:14] clear as I can possibly speak.

[00:44:16] If we get word whenever that may be that Scott's

[00:44:20] service and Jerry DiPoto are not back here in

[00:44:22] Seattle next year, and that could be one of two

[00:44:26] ways, whether that's they do not get retained or

[00:44:29] they choose to go elsewhere.

[00:44:31] Oh, I am going to unleash fury on that podcast.

[00:44:35] Absolute fury.

[00:44:37] And you know what?

[00:44:38] If they choose to go somewhere else,

[00:44:40] 0% of that fury will be directed at Scott's

[00:44:43] service and Jerry DiPoto.

[00:44:44] I really hope both of them stay.

[00:44:45] I really do.

[00:44:47] But if they choose to go elsewhere,

[00:44:49] I can't blame them for all the reasons we all

[00:44:51] know, I can't blame them if they decide they

[00:44:53] want an opportunity somewhere else.

[00:44:55] So when I say I'm going to unleash fury on that

[00:44:57] podcast that would proceed after those

[00:44:59] hypothetical decisions, you know who that

[00:45:03] fury is going to be directed at.

[00:45:04] You know who that's going to be directed at

[00:45:06] and I'll leave it at that.

[00:45:08] You all know, I don't even need to say it.

[00:45:11] It's a good transition into our next

[00:45:13] mailbag question.

[00:45:14] This comes on Twitter from Kyle and Kyle

[00:45:18] asks, can you rank your three best pitches

[00:45:22] on the Mariners pitching staff starters

[00:45:24] and relievers included?

[00:45:27] This was hard.

[00:45:28] I thought this was going to be easy.

[00:45:30] There was a lot of pitches.

[00:45:32] I felt like I had to leave off this list

[00:45:34] because you only get three.

[00:45:35] I did write down a couple of honorable mentions,

[00:45:37] but of the ones I had to pick, here's

[00:45:41] what I went with.

[00:45:42] Luis Castillo's fastball.

[00:45:44] I know he hasn't started great.

[00:45:45] I don't care about that.

[00:45:46] That is one of the best fastballs in

[00:45:47] baseball when it's on.

[00:45:50] Matt Brash, a slider and Gregory Santos,

[00:45:52] a slider.

[00:45:53] Yeah, can you tell I'm excited for those

[00:45:55] two guys to get back?

[00:45:56] I know we haven't seen Santos yet.

[00:45:58] Those two sliders are nuts.

[00:46:00] So I had to leave some off.

[00:46:02] Those were my three.

[00:46:04] You're giving Santos the crown without

[00:46:06] pitching like a single inning in

[00:46:09] a Mariners uniform.

[00:46:10] It's not like he hasn't pitched in the

[00:46:11] big leagues.

[00:46:12] Go watch him pitch all of last year.

[00:46:14] He had a run value of 17 on his slider.

[00:46:16] It was higher than Brash's.

[00:46:19] I can't give anyone that award if

[00:46:21] they haven't pitched yet.

[00:46:22] I can't do it.

[00:46:23] It's like I so for my honorable mention,

[00:46:25] for example, Ryan Stanek is some

[00:46:27] pretty unbelievable stuff, but he's

[00:46:29] honorable mention because I don't

[00:46:30] think he's pitched enough.

[00:46:31] I haven't seen enough of it with

[00:46:32] my eyes to fully grasp the

[00:46:35] amazingness in a Mariners uniform.

[00:46:37] OK, so because I'm not going to

[00:46:38] let some Mariners bias come out

[00:46:41] in this, if you pitched a while

[00:46:43] and a Mariners uniform, I'm going

[00:46:45] to give you the nod.

[00:46:47] And I still think my three

[00:46:50] can stack up.

[00:46:51] OK, I'm going to cut you off before

[00:46:53] you read those three.

[00:46:54] If the Mariners in some

[00:46:56] miracle world got Garrett Cole on

[00:46:58] their roster and somebody asked

[00:47:00] us this question before the

[00:47:01] season started, none of his

[00:47:02] pitches are on your list.

[00:47:06] And he was still hurt?

[00:47:07] And he was still hurt, right?

[00:47:10] If it's the let's say it's the off

[00:47:12] season, the Mariners in a magical

[00:47:14] dream world acquire Garrett Cole.

[00:47:17] And all of a sudden we get a question

[00:47:19] in a mailbag that says rank your

[00:47:20] three best pitchers on the Mariners

[00:47:21] team. Opening day is not yet

[00:47:23] started. You have not seen Garrett

[00:47:24] Cole throw a pitch for the Mariners.

[00:47:26] However, you have plenty see him

[00:47:27] pitched in the big leagues.

[00:47:29] Are you leaving him off your list?

[00:47:31] I'm not.

[00:47:32] That's why Santos is on my list.

[00:47:35] Hmm.

[00:47:36] I think you're trying to guilt me.

[00:47:38] You're trying to get me, Lyle.

[00:47:40] You tried to get me into picking

[00:47:41] Gregory Santos.

[00:47:42] That's lighter's nuts, dude.

[00:47:44] Well, I'm still pretty confident

[00:47:45] in my three pitches.

[00:47:46] OK. At number one, I've brashed

[00:47:48] a slider at two.

[00:47:49] I have Andre's Munoz's slider.

[00:47:51] Oh, do you forget about that

[00:47:52] pitch? Do you forget about that

[00:47:53] pitch? Yeah.

[00:47:54] OK.

[00:47:55] Sorry, I didn't think so.

[00:47:56] And then Logan Gilbert splitter.

[00:48:00] So that was one of my honorable

[00:48:01] mentions. I had Gilbert splitter

[00:48:03] and a slider in my honorable

[00:48:04] mentions because Logan

[00:48:06] slider is awesome, too.

[00:48:08] It is.

[00:48:09] Anyways, like those are my pitches.

[00:48:11] I I find it really hard

[00:48:13] to match those three pitches.

[00:48:16] I mean, you get everything you want.

[00:48:17] You have a sweeper, you have a

[00:48:19] bullet slider and then you have a

[00:48:20] splitter. Those like three V nasty

[00:48:21] pitches in baseball.

[00:48:23] OK.

[00:48:24] I have Bryce Miller splitter

[00:48:27] on my honorable mention list,

[00:48:28] too. And then at George Kirby's

[00:48:29] fastball on my honorable mention

[00:48:30] list.

[00:48:31] OK.

[00:48:32] All pretty good pitches.

[00:48:33] They got a lot of really good

[00:48:34] pitches on this team.

[00:48:35] So again, this is why it was a

[00:48:37] tough exercise because there's

[00:48:38] all these pitches I had to leave

[00:48:40] off, which I felt bad about

[00:48:42] because somebody was getting left

[00:48:44] off. But

[00:48:46] I had to pick three and

[00:48:48] those were the three I picked.

[00:48:50] So shout out, shout out to this

[00:48:51] question.

[00:48:52] Shout out to Kyle on Twitter.

[00:48:53] This was a fun question.

[00:48:56] Yeah, it's good. It's a good

[00:48:57] good thought exercise.

[00:48:58] Yeah, it is.

[00:48:59] Hey, on that note,

[00:49:01] especially for those of you

[00:49:02] watching on YouTube, rank

[00:49:04] your three Mariners pitches.

[00:49:05] Who have the best three Mariners

[00:49:07] pitches on the team?

[00:49:08] Drop them in the comments or if

[00:49:09] you're listening on the audio

[00:49:10] podcast, DM us to

[00:49:12] Instagram, Twitter, whatever you

[00:49:13] want. Tell us your three best

[00:49:15] Mariners pitches. Who are they?

[00:49:16] Leave us a comment.

[00:49:17] I'll be interested to see.

[00:49:18] I'll be interested how they

[00:49:19] differ from TJ and Isla's

[00:49:21] because I'm sure everybody has

[00:49:22] a different opinion, which is

[00:49:23] what makes this a fun

[00:49:23] exercise.

[00:49:25] OK. Last question.

[00:49:26] Another fun exercise.

[00:49:28] This comes from Ellie and she

[00:49:30] says if you got to choose a

[00:49:31] walk up song for yourself,

[00:49:33] which song would it be and why?

[00:49:37] I have some recency bias here.

[00:49:39] Do you think you can guess what

[00:49:40] it is?

[00:49:42] I'm curious if it's going to be

[00:49:43] the same answer to mine.

[00:49:44] I don't have a guess, but

[00:49:47] I have I have a general

[00:49:48] thought. I'm going to let you

[00:49:49] answer first. It's play.

[00:49:50] It's it's pretty recent.

[00:49:53] We don't trust you by a

[00:49:54] future.

[00:49:55] I was going to say.

[00:49:57] I listened to that song the

[00:49:58] first time right at the top

[00:49:59] of the album. I'm sitting there

[00:50:00] thinking, yeah, this is a walkup

[00:50:02] song.

[00:50:04] That was on my list.

[00:50:07] So I had two songs from that list

[00:50:09] I wrote down. I wrote like that

[00:50:10] or we don't trust you, which

[00:50:12] is I guess for those who don't

[00:50:14] listen to hip hop. There are two

[00:50:14] new songs on the future

[00:50:16] Metro Boomin album, which as

[00:50:18] we're recording this, there's

[00:50:19] a second part to the album

[00:50:21] that's coming out in just a

[00:50:23] couple hours. So by the time

[00:50:24] you all are listening to this,

[00:50:26] there will be a new album out

[00:50:27] by future Metro Boomin called

[00:50:28] We Still Don't Trust You with a

[00:50:29] bunch of new songs. So maybe I'll

[00:50:30] pick one of those.

[00:50:31] We're going to diss this time.

[00:50:33] Yeah, I don't know.

[00:50:34] I guess we'll have to wait to find

[00:50:36] out who else will be on the

[00:50:37] diss list?

[00:50:38] I don't know. Maybe it's a maybe

[00:50:39] there's a J Cole apology in there.

[00:50:41] He's going to wrap up, wrap an

[00:50:42] apology.

[00:50:43] Oh yeah. There you go.

[00:50:46] The thing with me on this is

[00:50:47] this changes depending on new

[00:50:49] songs that come out.

[00:50:50] So like you, I have recency

[00:50:51] bias. If you would ask me last

[00:50:52] year, in fact, I think I said

[00:50:53] this on a podcast last year.

[00:50:55] I would have without hesitation

[00:50:56] picked superheroes my walkup song

[00:50:58] last year. Also Metro Boomin.

[00:51:00] So the first song on the album.

[00:51:02] No, second song in the album.

[00:51:05] First actual song on the album,

[00:51:07] I'll say. OK.

[00:51:09] So that would have been my pick

[00:51:10] last year. In high school, I

[00:51:11] used the song The Buzz is what

[00:51:13] it was called by Hermit to.

[00:51:15] It's it's like a trap music

[00:51:17] song. I mean, it doesn't know

[00:51:19] it does have words. What am I

[00:51:20] going to say? People people

[00:51:22] probably know what it is. It

[00:51:23] was a pretty popular song back

[00:51:24] in 2016, 15, that

[00:51:27] time period. But I don't know

[00:51:28] if I'd still use that now.

[00:51:29] I'd probably pick something more

[00:51:30] recent, like one of these songs.

[00:51:32] But yes, TJ and I are both hip

[00:51:34] hop fans. I'm guessing we pick

[00:51:36] something in that range.

[00:51:37] I don't know if the two of us

[00:51:37] will be walking up to country

[00:51:38] songs anytime soon.

[00:51:40] That's for some people.

[00:51:41] I don't know if it's for the

[00:51:42] two of us.

[00:51:43] No, I don't think so.

[00:51:44] Yeah. What is the one you're

[00:51:45] choosing?

[00:51:47] Yeah, I didn't give a real

[00:51:48] answer on that. Did you?

[00:51:48] Well, OK, you picked We Don't

[00:51:50] Trust You. So I'm going to

[00:51:51] pick like that also on my

[00:51:52] name album.

[00:51:53] It's like like the the

[00:51:56] first part of that song where

[00:51:57] the beats really good.

[00:51:58] The first part of it 15, 20 seconds

[00:52:00] or whatever.

[00:52:01] If you ever need like this.

[00:52:03] So like I love bass, I love good

[00:52:05] beats and no one does it like

[00:52:06] metro. So it's hard to it's hard

[00:52:08] to beat. So if I ever need a

[00:52:10] walk up song, it's you.

[00:52:11] Good chance it's one of his

[00:52:12] songs.

[00:52:13] Yeah. OK, same thing.

[00:52:15] We just asked people to comment

[00:52:17] their three Mariners pitches in

[00:52:18] the comments. Same thing.

[00:52:19] What was your walk up song?

[00:52:20] Me. I'm genuinely curious what

[00:52:22] the different taste in music

[00:52:24] is across our listenership

[00:52:25] and what people feel like they

[00:52:26] want to walk up to the plate to.

[00:52:27] So drop it in our comments or DM us

[00:52:29] tell us, let us know.

[00:52:31] Fun, fun exercise,

[00:52:33] though. Thank you guys for all

[00:52:34] the mailbag questions and

[00:52:36] next month we'll do another

[00:52:37] mailbag and it'll be exciting.

[00:52:39] We'll have a whole month more

[00:52:40] baseball to field questions

[00:52:42] about and it'll be fun.

[00:52:44] Until then, let's get to Speak

[00:52:45] Your Mind.

[00:52:47] Speak your mind, Spock.

[00:52:52] That would be otherwise.

[00:52:54] What is necessary

[00:52:56] is never unwise.

[00:52:58] OK, on Speak Your Mind this week,

[00:53:00] I'm just going to tee it off for you

[00:53:01] because I think this is a this is

[00:53:02] a pretty good one and then whatever

[00:53:04] else you have to you will want to

[00:53:05] speak about we can we can

[00:53:07] do at the end.

[00:53:08] But I want to give a shout out

[00:53:09] to E.Pay, the since

[00:53:13] since prosecuted now

[00:53:15] prosecuted.

[00:53:16] He turned himself in anyways,

[00:53:18] former interpreter of Shohei Ohtani

[00:53:20] for his incredible betting record.

[00:53:23] Listen to this.

[00:53:25] His average bet, first of all,

[00:53:26] over the span of about three years,

[00:53:29] two and a half, three and a half,

[00:53:31] three three and a half years we

[00:53:32] were taking average bet of

[00:53:34] twelve thousand eight hundred

[00:53:35] dollars. He won one hundred and

[00:53:37] forty two million dollars.

[00:53:39] He lost one hundred and eighty two

[00:53:41] million dollars.

[00:53:42] He lost in total

[00:53:45] net forty million dollars

[00:53:48] and he essentially bet at

[00:53:50] a rate over the span of two

[00:53:52] years while at a

[00:53:54] rate of about losing

[00:53:56] ten thousand dollars an hour.

[00:53:58] That's how bad of a camp

[00:54:00] for you was.

[00:54:03] So our speaker minds going to be

[00:54:04] on the same line because I was

[00:54:06] going to say it's once

[00:54:08] again, days like these

[00:54:11] that Twitter is just

[00:54:13] impeccable.

[00:54:15] It's not always fun.

[00:54:16] It's not always a fun place to

[00:54:17] be online all the time.

[00:54:18] However, days like these between

[00:54:19] E.Pay between O.J.

[00:54:21] between Jordan Montgomery

[00:54:22] changing agents and leaving

[00:54:23] Scott Boris.

[00:54:25] It has been non stop

[00:54:28] here on this Thursday.

[00:54:29] So to your point, yes, this

[00:54:31] factors into my speaker mind

[00:54:33] equation here, E.Pay, just

[00:54:35] a ridiculous day on

[00:54:37] Twitter like the memes you see

[00:54:38] filing through are crazy.

[00:54:41] But yeah, what's crazy is

[00:54:43] E.Pay was making like millions

[00:54:45] and millions of dollars worth

[00:54:46] of bets. But there was a

[00:54:48] tweet out there that says,

[00:54:49] here's the highest wage you

[00:54:50] ever placed. And then here's

[00:54:51] the lowest wager he ever placed

[00:54:53] $10.

[00:54:55] Like what a weird

[00:54:58] gambling strategy,

[00:55:00] I guess you could say, well, like

[00:55:01] why one day you're picking

[00:55:02] millions and millions of dollars

[00:55:04] to bet things on in the next day?

[00:55:05] Yeah, I'll bet $10 today.

[00:55:06] That's like why he's

[00:55:09] a degenerate that's

[00:55:11] it's no other way, no

[00:55:13] other way around it. He placed

[00:55:14] like an it was an average, I

[00:55:16] think of twenty two a day

[00:55:18] at like around $12,000.

[00:55:20] That's a degenerate.

[00:55:21] Yeah, he said like there's one

[00:55:23] quote floating around there is

[00:55:24] like, oh yeah, I'm loving

[00:55:25] soccer. It's on twenty four seven

[00:55:28] like just thinking about that.

[00:55:29] You know the craziest thing

[00:55:30] about all that his bookies

[00:55:32] trying to get in contact with

[00:55:33] the bookie is trying to get in

[00:55:34] contact with E.Pay walks

[00:55:36] past Shohei walking his dog

[00:55:40] and is like, hey man,

[00:55:41] I'm about to go talk to Shohei

[00:55:43] if you don't call me back

[00:55:44] and get me my money.

[00:55:46] Is that insane?

[00:55:49] My question is

[00:55:52] maybe I'm naive for having this

[00:55:53] thinking, but Shohei can

[00:55:55] get outside and walk his dog.

[00:55:57] I figured the minute he steps

[00:55:58] foot outside his house, he'll

[00:56:00] just get swarmed by people.

[00:56:01] I figured he was so private.

[00:56:03] I figured he wasn't even able

[00:56:05] to do stuff like that.

[00:56:06] I figured he's the type of

[00:56:07] celebrity where he probably has

[00:56:09] to instacart groceries and

[00:56:11] do and I don't know things

[00:56:12] like that.

[00:56:13] He's achieved a level of wealth.

[00:56:14] He can live with other

[00:56:16] extremely famous people.

[00:56:18] That's probably true.

[00:56:20] But I still feel like if you're

[00:56:21] walking your dog out in the

[00:56:23] neighborhood, there are people

[00:56:25] that recognize you.

[00:56:26] Shohei is not getting so he

[00:56:27] lives somewhere where he cannot

[00:56:28] get swarmed.

[00:56:30] Yet this so

[00:56:32] called bookie just

[00:56:34] happened to see him and could

[00:56:35] walk right up to him.

[00:56:36] He's probably out.

[00:56:37] He's probably conveniently

[00:56:38] outside his house.

[00:56:40] I'm going to take a guess.

[00:56:41] There's probably a reason he

[00:56:42] was in the area.

[00:56:44] Notice and notice how this

[00:56:45] bookie also like, you know,

[00:56:47] when you're four million dollars

[00:56:48] in debt to something, you know

[00:56:49] pretty much every

[00:56:51] like the bookie knows I would

[00:56:53] I'm sure a lot about E-Pay

[00:56:56] to know where to come

[00:56:58] collect.

[00:56:59] So that's just like it's crazy,

[00:57:01] man. That's yeah.

[00:57:02] He is like the

[00:57:04] like this is like what peak

[00:57:06] degenerate gambling looks like.

[00:57:08] That's what is that is an

[00:57:09] insane amount of money he

[00:57:11] was spending on gambling

[00:57:13] an insane amount.

[00:57:16] Yeah, it's crazy.

[00:57:17] Shout out to John Heyman, by the

[00:57:19] way, who will never be allowed on

[00:57:20] this podcast as we've talked

[00:57:22] about, who tweets here on

[00:57:23] Thursday night.

[00:57:25] Everyone's killing E-Pay, the

[00:57:26] interpreter, but give him this.

[00:57:29] He showed good restraint, not

[00:57:31] betting on baseball.

[00:57:34] What?

[00:57:36] Yeah, well, John Heyman is

[00:57:38] John Heyman, Lyle.

[00:57:40] I don't know what else you

[00:57:41] expect like he is

[00:57:43] one of one.

[00:57:44] What's what's really a shame of

[00:57:45] all this? I want to hear OJ's

[00:57:47] take on the cell situation.

[00:57:49] Think you would give some valuable

[00:57:50] insight.

[00:57:52] Yeah, yeah, right.

[00:57:55] What a day on Twitter like

[00:57:57] nonstop.

[00:57:58] I'm seeing memes left and right

[00:58:00] even when it's usually a very

[00:58:02] miserable place.

[00:58:04] It does have its moments.

[00:58:06] I think E-Pay should have instead

[00:58:07] of turning himself into authorities

[00:58:09] just for that just for the heck

[00:58:10] of it and just to honor

[00:58:11] OJ should have driven a

[00:58:13] Bronco.

[00:58:14] Down the what was the the four

[00:58:15] or five?

[00:58:17] He's had this dream after him.

[00:58:21] Yeah, well, quite a visual.

[00:58:24] Could you imagine turning on the

[00:58:25] TV?

[00:58:27] And it's like a part two of the

[00:58:28] saga, but it's E-Pay driving

[00:58:30] in a white Bronco.

[00:58:32] I actually cannot imagine that.

[00:58:34] I physically cannot imagine that.

[00:58:37] It's crazy.

[00:58:38] And then again, let it not be

[00:58:40] forgotten this morning before

[00:58:42] all this other stuff.

[00:58:44] We hear the Jordan Montgomery says,

[00:58:45] yeah, I'm done with Scott

[00:58:47] Boris.

[00:58:48] I'm switching agents.

[00:58:49] I'm going to Wasserman.

[00:58:50] I'm not putting up with your

[00:58:51] shit anymore.

[00:58:53] There's one and then the

[00:58:55] dominoes will continue to fall.

[00:58:58] Oh, I hope so.

[00:58:59] I hope they do.

[00:59:01] This is like this is your dream

[00:59:02] right here.

[00:59:03] It's happening.

[00:59:04] Well, it just feels

[00:59:07] I don't want to say inevitable

[00:59:08] inevitable but different than

[00:59:10] other off seasons because

[00:59:12] Jordan Montgomery is not the

[00:59:13] first player to leave Scott

[00:59:15] Boris and find a new agent, but

[00:59:16] it just feels like after the hell

[00:59:18] of an offseason that Scott Boris

[00:59:20] had just an absolute disaster

[00:59:23] that there is a real changing of

[00:59:25] the guard that could be in place

[00:59:26] here.

[00:59:29] Well, we're going to have to see

[00:59:30] it will take more than just

[00:59:32] Jordan Montgomery.

[00:59:33] I mean, he's going to have to

[00:59:34] start losing major clients.

[00:59:35] And the problem is all the

[00:59:37] people who already signed massive

[00:59:38] free agent deals aren't going

[00:59:39] to leave and Boris keeps getting

[00:59:41] paid.

[00:59:42] Right. He'll still like

[00:59:45] Bryce Harper is not going to change

[00:59:46] his agent. Manny's not going to

[00:59:47] change his agent. He's already

[00:59:48] got a deal.

[00:59:50] Doesn't need anything else.

[00:59:51] Manny wasn't a Boris guy.

[00:59:54] Manny. Oh, hmm.

[00:59:56] Anyway, oh, the I would

[00:59:58] see a big teller

[01:00:00] will be Mr. Soto in this off

[01:00:01] season.

[01:00:02] What will one Soto do?

[01:00:04] He if I feel like he holds

[01:00:06] more cards than the rest right

[01:00:07] now because he's next up.

[01:00:09] Well, I was going to say,

[01:00:11] is there any chance he changes

[01:00:13] agents before he hits free agency?

[01:00:15] I think he will be a major

[01:00:16] telling point to what everyone else

[01:00:18] does. It makes sense that if

[01:00:19] Montgomery or Blake Snell or Matt

[01:00:21] Chapman made this decision

[01:00:22] because he had just essentially

[01:00:24] fucked them over with his

[01:00:25] negotiating strategy.

[01:00:27] Juan Soto has not been fucked

[01:00:28] over yet.

[01:00:29] So is he going to jump ahead

[01:00:31] of the issue or is he going to

[01:00:33] trust Scott Boris

[01:00:35] will not make the same mistake

[01:00:36] two off seasons in a row?

[01:00:38] I'll say this, if one Soto

[01:00:40] sticks with Scott Boris, most

[01:00:41] likely he will as

[01:00:43] he heads into free agency.

[01:00:45] Scott Boris cannot

[01:00:48] can not mess

[01:00:50] this one up because this isn't

[01:00:51] Matt Chapman.

[01:00:52] This isn't even Blake Snell who's

[01:00:54] won two Cy Youngs.

[01:00:55] This is a 26

[01:00:57] year old megastar

[01:01:00] free agent who was well

[01:01:01] on track to the Hall of Fame.

[01:01:04] 26 years old, he's hitting free

[01:01:05] agency.

[01:01:07] Scott Boris cannot

[01:01:09] mess this contract up for

[01:01:11] his own sake. Now, if he were to

[01:01:12] mess it up bad enough where one

[01:01:14] Soto got some one year deal or

[01:01:15] two year deal, guess what?

[01:01:17] Then one Soto would hit free

[01:01:18] agency again at 28.

[01:01:19] He'd find a new agent by that

[01:01:20] point. But if you're Scott

[01:01:22] Boris, you cannot mess

[01:01:24] this deal up. You better get

[01:01:25] one Soto was half a million

[01:01:26] dollars or

[01:01:28] you're going to have a lot of

[01:01:30] bad light shined on you,

[01:01:31] buddy.

[01:01:32] This is Scott Boris's walk here

[01:01:34] essentially.

[01:01:35] No pressure.

[01:01:37] I agree with that.

[01:01:39] It's going to be interesting.

[01:01:40] Hey, maybe one wants to change

[01:01:42] agents and come to Seattle.

[01:01:46] Then we can open the door.

[01:01:48] Yeah. Yeah, right.

[01:01:49] We give them sports is

[01:01:50] collateral.

[01:01:52] What would what would the

[01:01:54] contract?

[01:01:55] What would the budget for one

[01:01:57] Soto be?

[01:01:58] $80 million.

[01:02:00] A year.

[01:02:02] Yeah.

[01:02:03] One for 65.

[01:02:04] There we go. Oh, perfect.

[01:02:07] Works for all parties.

[01:02:08] It'll be 27 back on the market.

[01:02:10] Yeah, there you go.

[01:02:11] Yeah, it'll be interesting to

[01:02:13] watch one Soto and what he does

[01:02:14] and what Scott Boris does this

[01:02:15] winter. But ultimately,

[01:02:17] it is days like this that

[01:02:20] Twitter makes you realize, wow,

[01:02:22] it does have its perks.

[01:02:23] It really does.

[01:02:26] OK, I think that'll just

[01:02:28] about wrap up this edition of
