Episode 122: Trevor May (Retired Big Leaguer), Emerson Hancock Has Done All The Mariners Can Ask, And Detailing Cal Raleigh's Scorching Week

Lyle and TJ jump into their Mariners storylines by first giving a round of applause to the job Emerson Hancock has done through his first four starts (8"06), then looking at what has stood out from Cal Raleigh during his recent hot streak (19:18). They then welcome former big league pitcher and now-content creator Trevor May to chat about wanting to play for the Mariners, his YouTube Channel, and more (29:30).

[00:00:17] We have our two Mariners storylines.

[00:00:19] Emerson Hancock has done a really admirable job

[00:00:22] of filling in the five spot in the Mariners rotation

[00:00:24] and Cal Raleigh beginning to heat up.

[00:00:50] We're all across social media.

[00:00:51] We're on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter,

[00:00:53] and YouTube shorts at Marine Layer Pod.

[00:00:56] Let's get it rolling.

[00:00:58] And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer Podcast,

[00:01:12] part of the Just Baseball Podcast Network.

[00:01:14] Recording here on Monday, April 22nd on an off day

[00:01:19] and because we have all the time in the world, Lyle,

[00:01:21] I want to give us a chance to respond to start this episode.

[00:01:24] You and I are very pro-roof.

[00:01:28] We like roofs on stadiums.

[00:01:31] It doesn't have to be an indoor dome.

[00:01:33] It can be a retractable roof like T-Mobile Park,

[00:01:36] something that keeps the elements out of a ballpark.

[00:01:38] So when we roll around this past Friday

[00:01:41] and the Mariners get snowed out in Colorado,

[00:01:44] I put a reaction out saying this is unacceptable

[00:01:47] that major league teams are still getting snowed out

[00:01:50] and rained out.

[00:01:51] There are ways around it here in the year 2024.

[00:01:55] And man, it seemed like that was an unpopular opinion.

[00:01:59] How am I in the wrong here?

[00:02:03] You're asking the wrong person

[00:02:05] because I would reiterate every single word

[00:02:07] you said in that social post.

[00:02:08] The thing is, I don't even think Mariners fans

[00:02:10] were out here disagreeing with you.

[00:02:12] Most of the comments seemed to be from other fan bases

[00:02:15] of other teams that had our posts hit their algorithm

[00:02:19] and clearly had some response to fire off

[00:02:21] because it did not seem like a lot of Mariners fans

[00:02:24] that were responding to it.

[00:02:25] I think a lot of Mariners fans felt what we felt,

[00:02:27] saying, hey, guess what?

[00:02:28] Seattle rains all the time.

[00:02:30] What did this team have to do?

[00:02:32] They said to put up a serviceable ballpark

[00:02:35] when they built the new ballpark

[00:02:37] and save code now T-Mobile needs a roof.

[00:02:40] It rains way too much in Seattle.

[00:02:41] Games are gonna get canceled and delayed all the time.

[00:02:43] There's other places where that rains true also,

[00:02:46] yet there's no roof.

[00:02:48] It is snowing in Denver, snowing!

[00:02:52] No retractable roof.

[00:02:54] Denver, out of all months of the year,

[00:02:57] did you know Denver has the second most snow

[00:02:59] of any month of the year in April?

[00:03:01] While Major League Baseball is being played.

[00:03:02] Second most of any month is April

[00:03:05] and yet there is no prevention of that.

[00:03:08] There's not like what if you play

[00:03:09] in your entire Friday night around going to a Friday night

[00:03:12] Rockies Mariners games and the game gets called

[00:03:15] because well, there's nothing preventing the snow

[00:03:17] which clearly falls all the time in Denver

[00:03:20] from getting on the field.

[00:03:20] And you just throw up your hands, oh, oh well.

[00:03:24] So here's the couple of arguments.

[00:03:26] Roof are ugly, yeah they're not the prettiest thing

[00:03:28] in the world but are we really talking about

[00:03:30] like the modern day ballpark?

[00:03:32] Yeah, the roofs are so ugly

[00:03:34] like modern architecture is overly beautiful.

[00:03:37] Really?

[00:03:38] Really?

[00:03:39] Do we care about beautiful ballparks?

[00:03:41] Because like for example,

[00:03:44] like just throw the ranger stadium out there.

[00:03:46] Sure that has a roof but it's like new

[00:03:47] and they had to build an indoors to keep the heat out.

[00:03:50] Like really is that beautiful?

[00:03:52] Is that beautiful?

[00:03:53] Would you say like truest park is like a beautiful ballpark?

[00:03:57] Like truly beautiful.

[00:03:58] That's pretty nice.

[00:04:00] Beautiful, like the argument is that roofs

[00:04:05] hamper the aesthetic of the ballpark.

[00:04:08] That's not the case with T-Mobile Park.

[00:04:10] T-Mobile Park's one of the nicest parks in baseball

[00:04:11] and it has a roof.

[00:04:12] Correct, right.

[00:04:13] So would there be any difference

[00:04:14] if they threw a roof on truest park for example?

[00:04:17] A new ballpark?

[00:04:18] No because if it's retractable

[00:04:20] it still looks the exact same when the sun's out

[00:04:22] because the roof wouldn't be on

[00:04:24] and you're playing baseball games under the sun.

[00:04:26] It's just for when it rains people.

[00:04:29] Like you don't have to make your ballpark look like

[00:04:31] Chase Field which TJ famously likes to coin it

[00:04:33] the inside of a Costco.

[00:04:35] Doesn't have to look like that.

[00:04:37] You just need a roof that retracts

[00:04:38] like T-Mobile Park does.

[00:04:39] To your point of well, it looks ugly

[00:04:42] and let you first off I think

[00:04:44] that's kind of a dumb argument

[00:04:45] and the other point

[00:04:47] that people seem to be hitting home a lot was

[00:04:49] oh well baseball is meant to be played outdoors.

[00:04:52] It's an outdoor game.

[00:04:53] Baseball is meant to be played.

[00:04:55] Not canceled because there's water on the ground.

[00:04:57] So thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

[00:05:00] And when you have a retractable roof

[00:05:01] you're still outside.

[00:05:02] If you walk around T-Mobile Park

[00:05:04] if you ever or unless you go in the press area

[00:05:06] or the terrace club are you ever inside?

[00:05:08] No, no you're outside.

[00:05:10] You are 100% outside all the time.

[00:05:12] Ask all the people who are up there

[00:05:13] on the 300 level right under the roof

[00:05:16] but still freezing their ass off every single game.

[00:05:19] I will give the people in the comments this.

[00:05:21] I did not lay out my two stipulations

[00:05:23] for building a ballpark in 2024.

[00:05:26] What do I say?

[00:05:27] It either needs to have a roof,

[00:05:29] either permanent or retractable.

[00:05:31] I would prefer retractable

[00:05:32] because I like stadiums outside.

[00:05:33] However, if it does rain enough

[00:05:36] you gotta have some prevention to that

[00:05:38] or you build a ballpark like Wrigley.

[00:05:41] Those are the only two rules.

[00:05:43] You either make your ballpark such a gem

[00:05:47] and so can't miss

[00:05:49] that you can withstand not having a roof

[00:05:52] like Wrigley Field.

[00:05:53] That's fine.

[00:05:54] It is picturesque.

[00:05:56] I wish there were more ballparks like Wrigley Field

[00:05:58] but there are not unfortunately

[00:05:59] or you put a goddamn roof on your stadium.

[00:06:03] That's simple.

[00:06:04] Yeah.

[00:06:05] Benway Park would never roof either.

[00:06:07] That's fine.

[00:06:07] That falls along the same lines of Wrigley Field.

[00:06:10] It's older, historic.

[00:06:12] People go to see it for a reason.

[00:06:14] It's an attraction.

[00:06:16] Or just build a roof.

[00:06:17] Guess what?

[00:06:18] Cours Field ain't changing that much

[00:06:20] if there's a roof on that place.

[00:06:22] Like think for an example like Kaufman Stadium

[00:06:25] in the middle of absolute nowhere.

[00:06:27] Do you think anyone loses out

[00:06:29] by them having a roof on that stadium?

[00:06:31] No, not at all.

[00:06:33] Like what are you obstructing?

[00:06:34] And as we know from Mariners Legend

[00:06:38] and Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki

[00:06:40] it gets hot in Kansas City.

[00:06:43] As Brett Boone told us

[00:06:45] on our last podcast last week with them

[00:06:47] and we just posted a clip on social media about that too.

[00:06:49] That's another ballpark that could benefit

[00:06:51] from having a roof.

[00:06:52] Keep the heat out in the summer.

[00:06:55] I like what you're thinking.

[00:06:56] Now that would require more indoors

[00:06:58] but that could be a conversation

[00:07:00] with the Kansas City Legislator by the way

[00:07:02] who's right now working to try

[00:07:04] and build the Royals a new ballpark.

[00:07:06] And they have,

[00:07:08] I think they've still yet to be successful, right?

[00:07:09] They haven't landed anything.

[00:07:12] I think they were trying for the downtown park

[00:07:14] but I don't remember seeing it.

[00:07:15] Do you remember seeing an update on that?

[00:07:17] I thought they are getting a new stadium.

[00:07:19] I didn't remember if who's approved or not.

[00:07:24] You're asking the wrong person

[00:07:25] if there was pen to paper on it.

[00:07:26] I swore the tweet said that there is a new ballpark

[00:07:28] coming to Kansas City in eight years

[00:07:31] or something like that.

[00:07:32] But yeah. Interesting.

[00:07:34] Well, yeah, I guess we'll see.

[00:07:35] So and with every new park that's built

[00:07:38] Lyle and I will be watching very closely

[00:07:40] because if you don't follow the rules

[00:07:44] you're subject to getting trash on this podcast.

[00:07:47] And as we know before we transition

[00:07:50] if we've learned anything from doing stuff

[00:07:52] on social media is when you find something that works

[00:07:55] you keep doing it because clearly it works for a reason.

[00:07:58] So I'll tell you what,

[00:07:59] when Mariners have rain delays this year or cancellations

[00:08:02] oh you're gonna hear us talk about it on social media.

[00:08:05] I can promise you that.

[00:08:08] Let's get to our Mariners storylines.

[00:08:10] Up first wanna give some love to Emerson Hancock.

[00:08:13] What an admirable job he has done in the five spot this year

[00:08:17] filling in for Brian Wu

[00:08:18] who also had a really good performance this weekend

[00:08:21] as he's getting it working his way back.

[00:08:23] He's probably gonna debut against the Astros

[00:08:25] in a couple of weeks

[00:08:26] but in his spot Emerson Hancock has exceeded expectations.

[00:08:30] My expectations were sort of flat

[00:08:32] right in the middle for Emerson Hancock.

[00:08:33] I was hoping, you know, he would go

[00:08:35] somewhere between four and five innings in his starts

[00:08:38] and allow three runs and limit damage

[00:08:40] and overall just sort of try and keep the Mariners

[00:08:42] in the game and let the Mariners bullpen

[00:08:44] bring up the rear of it and close out the game

[00:08:47] and sort of use more arms that way.

[00:08:49] It has not been that way.

[00:08:50] Distance has not been an issue with Emerson Hancock

[00:08:53] and he has really, he has fit right in

[00:08:56] in this Mariners streak

[00:08:57] of just excellent starting pitching over the last two weeks.

[00:09:01] So if you just pulled up his stats

[00:09:03] on baseball reference or fan graphs

[00:09:04] it wouldn't look that pretty

[00:09:06] because he had one start in Milwaukee

[00:09:07] which we know he got blown up.

[00:09:09] The Brewers hit him very hard.

[00:09:10] He exited that game early.

[00:09:12] Look at the other three starts he's had.

[00:09:14] If you combine Emerson Hancock's other three starts

[00:09:17] and throw out that Milwaukee start

[00:09:19] his ERA right now is 311.

[00:09:21] That's your five guy.

[00:09:23] And when everybody's healthy, that's your number six guy.

[00:09:25] It's pretty good.

[00:09:26] 311 ERA

[00:09:28] in three of his four starts.

[00:09:31] It's pretty good.

[00:09:33] And he's a guy who's working through things too.

[00:09:35] It's not like he can't get better

[00:09:36] as the season goes along.

[00:09:37] We just use the example of him facing the Rockies

[00:09:40] on Sunday in the second game of the double header.

[00:09:42] And think of what he's up against.

[00:09:44] We just watched Kirby in game one.

[00:09:46] He battled but he shut the Rockies out for five innings.

[00:09:48] He clearly wasn't 100%.

[00:09:50] I don't think Scott Service wanted to use

[00:09:52] all of his high leverage guys in game one

[00:09:53] but he ended up doing it.

[00:09:55] So Emerson Hancock is facing two things.

[00:09:57] They're playing the second game of the day.

[00:09:59] The bullpen is short, especially leverage arms.

[00:10:02] So no pressure.

[00:10:03] He's got to go out there and perform.

[00:10:04] And that's exactly what he did.

[00:10:05] He got hit around a little bit in the first inning.

[00:10:07] But after a Polanco error in the first

[00:10:10] and you end up a two run double,

[00:10:12] he retired 18 of 21 batters

[00:10:14] and allowed three total singles the rest of the game.

[00:10:17] That's bouncing back right there.

[00:10:18] That's bouncing back even against a pretty bad lineup.

[00:10:22] Rocky scored four runs all weekend

[00:10:23] but that's also a testament to the Mariners pitching staff.

[00:10:26] He's throwing a lot of strikes.

[00:10:28] His stuff's not overwhelming

[00:10:29] but he's filling up the strike zone

[00:10:31] and he is limiting damage.

[00:10:33] That's the best of what Emerson Hancock could do

[00:10:34] right now because he doesn't really have

[00:10:36] to swing a miss fastball.

[00:10:37] His changeup is good enough when he can locate it

[00:10:39] and his slider is fine.

[00:10:41] So when he gets to those,

[00:10:42] especially the secondary pitches,

[00:10:44] he can survive and certainly he has survived.

[00:10:47] I just recommend people don't look

[00:10:49] at his baseball savant page

[00:10:50] because you might find a different conclusion for yourself.

[00:10:56] He's not walking anybody.

[00:10:57] They throw a lot of strikes.

[00:10:59] So give him credit there.

[00:11:00] You want to talk about his baseball savant page,

[00:11:02] his walk rate very, very good.

[00:11:04] It's in the 89th percentile.

[00:11:07] With the rest of it,

[00:11:08] the underlying numbers overall are not great for Emerson.

[00:11:10] How much of that is because of the Milwaukee start?

[00:11:14] Probably a decent amount

[00:11:15] but there's a lot of things not helping him.

[00:11:17] Not striking out a ton of batters

[00:11:19] and not throwing a bunch of ground balls.

[00:11:22] It's not a whole lot of ground balls coming up.

[00:11:24] A lot of fly balls, little line drives.

[00:11:26] It's not a really good formula

[00:11:27] getting hit hard a little bit.

[00:11:28] So that's all things he can go down there

[00:11:30] and work on in Tacoma.

[00:11:32] We'll probably see Emerson Hancock again this season.

[00:11:35] He's going to get one more start next weekend

[00:11:37] back at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks

[00:11:40] and then Brian Wu will be back in the swing.

[00:11:42] We can imagine if Brian Wu stays healthy for these weeks.

[00:11:45] But really, man, the expectations that we set

[00:11:48] for Emerson Hancock coming up here,

[00:11:50] I don't know if it was this.

[00:11:52] I don't think it was this.

[00:11:53] And I think we've seen what we've needed to

[00:11:56] to feel confident when he's called upon again

[00:11:59] because I think that's a when, not an if

[00:12:01] that you'd feel pretty confident with him filling in.

[00:12:04] At some point he's going to need to make more starts this year.

[00:12:07] We will see him back in the big leagues, almost certainly.

[00:12:10] And yeah, if Emerson Hancock's done anything for himself,

[00:12:14] he is without a doubt the first guy

[00:12:16] that's going to get called.

[00:12:17] If there's an injury,

[00:12:18] if they need somebody to start in a doubleheader, it's him.

[00:12:21] Because he's earned that over both, I guess,

[00:12:25] you can look at the couple of starts he had last year

[00:12:27] but really what he's done since then.

[00:12:28] And he's not perfect, right?

[00:12:30] You talk about he doesn't get a lot of swing and miss

[00:12:32] strikeouts or something.

[00:12:33] He needs to still rack up more of.

[00:12:35] He needs to, you know, limit hard hit balls.

[00:12:39] That's a certainty.

[00:12:40] But he has done everything you could ask a number five

[00:12:44] type of starter to do.

[00:12:46] And yeah, he has things to work on.

[00:12:47] I think keeping his velocity up throughout the duration

[00:12:51] of a start will be something to watch in Tacoma too

[00:12:53] because we've seen him hit that 96, 97 a bit

[00:12:56] but it hasn't stayed consistent throughout a start.

[00:12:58] Often as Vilo goes down as some outings go on.

[00:13:01] So that could be something he works on

[00:13:02] when he gets down to triple A.

[00:13:04] Assuming he's the one that gets moved off the roster

[00:13:07] when Wu's healthy.

[00:13:08] But if we're talking results,

[00:13:12] I wanna say this in the right way.

[00:13:14] I am like, what have I talked about?

[00:13:16] I'm the high man on Brian Wu.

[00:13:17] I think Brian Wu's upside is crazy.

[00:13:19] But if you're just gonna look at the Mariners record

[00:13:21] and the starts that Emerson Hancock has made,

[00:13:24] I don't know if through four games,

[00:13:26] the Mariners look that different with Brian Wu

[00:13:29] pitching these four games and Hancock.

[00:13:31] Now long-term, having Brian Wu is an upgrade

[00:13:34] and there's no doubt about it

[00:13:36] because we know what he can do when he's at his best.

[00:13:38] We know what his ceiling holds.

[00:13:40] But through the four starts that Hancock's made,

[00:13:42] I don't think the Mariners look all that different

[00:13:43] as the team record wise now

[00:13:45] if they've been Wu pitching these games over Hancock.

[00:13:48] No, I don't think so.

[00:13:48] And now that Brian Wu has ramped back up

[00:13:51] and he essentially got the first few weeks

[00:13:53] of the season off on the injured list

[00:13:56] to now ramp up and start pitching again.

[00:13:58] I'm hoping we see this kind of length

[00:14:00] from Brian Wu as well because I don't know,

[00:14:03] especially at the beginning of the season,

[00:14:05] we would have seen quite the amount,

[00:14:07] like the innings coverage from Brian Wu here early

[00:14:09] as we've seen from Emerson Hancock.

[00:14:10] Is that fair?

[00:14:13] Yeah, because Wu's gonna be on an innings limit.

[00:14:15] Now I assume Hancock is on some limit too, right?

[00:14:18] Because he hasn't thrown a full season in a long time.

[00:14:20] He had some injuries last year

[00:14:21] and the season before that.

[00:14:23] We know he's been a bit injury prone in his career.

[00:14:25] But I would assume as the season prolongs,

[00:14:29] you'll start to see Wu get stretched out.

[00:14:31] But his first couple outings,

[00:14:32] yeah, he may go four or five.

[00:14:33] That's fair.

[00:14:35] Before we move on to our next storyline,

[00:14:36] can we just touch on Wu for a second?

[00:14:38] I mean, holy crap.

[00:14:41] Nine up, nine down, five strikeouts

[00:14:44] in his first rehab start that was in Vegas.

[00:14:47] Do look like he hasn't missed a single beat.

[00:14:51] Obviously they're gonna give him another rehab start

[00:14:53] but just watching that outing

[00:14:55] because I had both screens up on Sunday.

[00:14:57] I was watching Brian Wu starts.

[00:14:59] I was kind of flipping that game on and off.

[00:15:01] I would turn the Tacoma game on

[00:15:02] in the innings he was pitching

[00:15:03] while also watching the Mariners.

[00:15:05] And I'm sitting there being like, wow, like he's ready.

[00:15:08] Like that's the irresponsible thing to say.

[00:15:10] And as a podcaster, I'm sitting here saying it,

[00:15:12] of course they're gonna give him another rehab outing

[00:15:14] to make sure he's all systems go

[00:15:16] but watching what he did in that outing.

[00:15:18] Yeah, like there's a reason

[00:15:20] I'm excited about Brian Wu.

[00:15:22] I can't wait for him to get back.

[00:15:23] It's the easiest 95 miles an hour I've ever seen, really.

[00:15:27] I mean, it looks like he's soft tossing it.

[00:15:30] Yeah.

[00:15:31] So we're looking forward to it.

[00:15:33] So I think it's what May 1st against the Astros

[00:15:36] when he scheduled the throw.

[00:15:38] Yeah, or so May 1st is the final game against the Braves.

[00:15:41] It would be that weekend in Houston.

[00:15:43] May 3rd against the Astros then

[00:15:45] because they have an off day after that.

[00:15:46] Right.

[00:15:47] If he pitches that first game, yeah.

[00:15:49] Right.

[00:15:49] It's sometime during that weekend in Houston.

[00:15:52] I guess I'll make one more point here on the Hancock topic.

[00:15:55] Is there any chance the Mariners would think

[00:15:58] about a six man rotation for a little bit?

[00:16:00] Because I'm looking at the schedule.

[00:16:01] There's not a lot of off days in May.

[00:16:03] In fact, there's two.

[00:16:04] There's one on the second and there's one on the 16th.

[00:16:07] Not a lot of off days.

[00:16:08] Like to manage the innings of Wu and Hancock

[00:16:11] would they even think about it for a little bit?

[00:16:13] I think at this point,

[00:16:14] it's more important to have those bullpen arms

[00:16:16] than to have an extra starter.

[00:16:18] I think it would be more valuable to the Mariners

[00:16:20] winning games than to have those extra bullpen arms

[00:16:24] then run with a six man rotation

[00:16:25] because you can still control innings

[00:16:27] with a five man rotation, even without the off days.

[00:16:30] You can control innings,

[00:16:31] especially with Emerson Hancock down in AAA.

[00:16:33] Now he does not need to throw his full pitch count

[00:16:35] every start.

[00:16:36] He can throw four, five innings hard cap

[00:16:39] not based on how well he's pitching.

[00:16:41] So they can manage that no problem.

[00:16:44] And if they feel like once they get,

[00:16:46] so they do that with Emerson

[00:16:48] and then say they get near the all star break

[00:16:50] and they're thinking, okay, we're gonna do the,

[00:16:52] we're gonna skip Wu and give them essentially

[00:16:54] an extra week and a half of rest

[00:16:57] coming out of the all star break, something like that.

[00:16:59] And they call Hancock up

[00:17:00] because they've been managing his innings at that point.

[00:17:03] Then that works out

[00:17:04] and then you can sort of give Wu a break

[00:17:06] and get Emerson back into the fold.

[00:17:08] Something like that I would imagine.

[00:17:10] Okay.

[00:17:11] Fair enough.

[00:17:11] Yeah, the Mariners bullpen arms have been great too

[00:17:13] and you don't want to sacrifice those guys

[00:17:15] because they've been so valuable.

[00:17:17] It's just an idea to keep arms fresh

[00:17:19] and with not a whole lot of off days,

[00:17:21] but you're right.

[00:17:22] Likelihood is when Wu gets back,

[00:17:24] Hancock will go back to Tacoma.

[00:17:26] You'll see him at some point again this year,

[00:17:27] but seriously shout out to Emerson Hancock.

[00:17:30] We didn't know exactly what he was gonna bring

[00:17:31] to the table.

[00:17:32] He's been really impressive in three of his four outings.

[00:17:35] I should say he's pitched very competitively

[00:17:37] in those, in three of his four outings.

[00:17:38] Like you said, he's exceeded expectations

[00:17:40] and I genuinely think his change up's a good pitch

[00:17:44] and I'm glad he started to throw it more this year too

[00:17:46] because he didn't throw it a whole ton last year.

[00:17:48] You've seen the usage of it significantly increase up.

[00:17:51] I think it's helped him.

[00:17:52] That change up's a good pitch when he throws it.

[00:17:54] And the next thing for him,

[00:17:55] he's just gotta be able to find the sequencing

[00:17:58] to get to that pitch

[00:17:59] cause he's not gonna throw only change ups in an outing.

[00:18:02] That like needs to find like whether it be a sinker

[00:18:05] or as fast while find some sort of effectiveness

[00:18:07] with those pitches to get to that change up.

[00:18:09] Right, right.

[00:18:11] But I listened to Pete Wordworth talk about

[00:18:12] on the top step.

[00:18:13] Shout out our friend Ryan Rollinsmith talking about

[00:18:16] when is Emerson Hancock at his best?

[00:18:18] When he's throwing his change up with command

[00:18:21] and with confidence.

[00:18:22] Like the Mariners really liked that pitch.

[00:18:24] There's an organizational belief

[00:18:25] that that's a very good pitch.

[00:18:27] So it's good.

[00:18:29] Shout out to Emerson Hancock.

[00:18:30] He's really done his job.

[00:18:32] All right, before we get to our second storyline,

[00:18:34] let's take a quick pause here.

[00:18:36] We're gonna talk to you guys about who?

[00:18:37] Our friends over at Pagotius Pub 85.

[00:18:39] That's over in Kirkland.

[00:18:40] Season's rolling along.

[00:18:41] We just talked about Brian Woo's start, right?

[00:18:43] Maybe you're a big Brian Woo fan too

[00:18:44] and you wanna see him make his first outing

[00:18:46] in a couple of weeks.

[00:18:47] Maybe you wanna watch some Mariners games before that.

[00:18:49] Head over there and do it.

[00:18:50] Because you can sit along with your friends,

[00:18:51] you can play some pool and some darts while you're at it.

[00:18:53] You can get some great food

[00:18:55] and some great drink specials like we say,

[00:18:57] what's a perfect formula?

[00:18:58] You can hang out with your friends,

[00:18:59] get there before the game start,

[00:19:01] go during happy hour

[00:19:02] and you can get some good drink specials

[00:19:04] before first pitch.

[00:19:05] That includes two to 6 p.m. happy hour

[00:19:07] on Monday through Fridays.

[00:19:08] It's $3 domestic beers, $4 mayonnaise and Blue Moons,

[00:19:11] $4 Mac and Jacks, $4 Wells and $4 Housewines.

[00:19:14] All of that is over at Pagotius Pub 85 in Kirkland.

[00:19:20] So Cal Raleigh as we transition to our second storyline.

[00:19:24] Mariners offense is starting to heat up

[00:19:26] and reason number one over the last week or so

[00:19:30] is Mr. Big Dumber, number 29.

[00:19:33] Historic you could say his weekend was

[00:19:36] because 7,500th home run in franchise history,

[00:19:39] the one he hit.

[00:19:41] But not only that, I mean he just torched the ball

[00:19:44] six for 13, two home runs drove in five.

[00:19:47] His home runs he went dead center

[00:19:50] and then he went oppo as a lefty.

[00:19:52] Do you remember like he's only done that twice.

[00:19:54] Do you realize that he's only gone oppo

[00:19:57] hitting left handed twice ever.

[00:20:00] Do you remember the other one?

[00:20:02] No, not and usually they have a good memory

[00:20:04] but not off memory.

[00:20:06] Gauzman in 22 in Toronto

[00:20:09] is the start of Cal Raleigh's ownership

[00:20:11] of the country of Canada.

[00:20:13] That's right, that's right.

[00:20:14] He's definitely done it right handed a couple of times

[00:20:16] like he just did in Toronto like a week or two ago

[00:20:19] but yeah, it doesn't happen a whole lot

[00:20:22] from the left side oppo bombs.

[00:20:24] That was actually I think his first one right handed.

[00:20:27] First one ever so he has one oppo right handed

[00:20:29] two oppo left handed.

[00:20:32] I will say speaking of the right handed home runs

[00:20:34] if you wanna start to look at what has stemmed

[00:20:37] some of Cal Raleigh's success aside from him

[00:20:39] now getting back to doing what he usually does

[00:20:41] barreling up the ball hitting it hard

[00:20:43] which translates to power which we know Cal Raleigh has.

[00:20:46] He's swung it from the right side so far.

[00:20:48] Small sample, he's swung it.

[00:20:50] Two of his five home runs are from the right side.

[00:20:52] He's got a 958 OPS as a right hand bat so far.

[00:20:56] Pretty good.

[00:20:56] They were pretty good considering we heard,

[00:20:58] I mean there were people out there.

[00:20:59] There was people in our comments last year saying

[00:21:02] well it's time for Cal Raleigh

[00:21:03] to just ditch the right hand side

[00:21:05] and only be a left hand hitter.

[00:21:06] Well maybe not people.

[00:21:08] Maybe Cal and the Mariners know what they're doing

[00:21:11] because Cal's hit pretty well from the right side.

[00:21:13] He's the most hilarious slash line ever

[00:21:15] from the right side, 182-250-727.

[00:21:20] So you know however you're gonna get it done

[00:21:23] you gotta get it done.

[00:21:24] That's how you do it.

[00:21:25] It's been sort of an interesting profile for Cal Raleigh.

[00:21:28] I don't really think this is the Mariners new

[00:21:29] offensive approach in planting on Cal Raleigh.

[00:21:33] I think Cal Raleigh is just doing a better job

[00:21:35] of overall hitting the ball harder.

[00:21:36] The differences in his profile

[00:21:38] and the small sample this year

[00:21:40] to what we saw last year is he's more consistently

[00:21:42] hitting the ball hard, barreling it more

[00:21:45] and the combination of average exit velocity

[00:21:48] and a hard hit rate have been significantly better.

[00:21:51] And on top of that like you said

[00:21:53] he's walking a whole lot more.

[00:21:54] His walk rate's up 4%.

[00:21:56] So he's seeing the pitches he wants.

[00:22:00] He's hitting them extremely hard

[00:22:02] than when a pitch is outside of the zone

[00:22:03] he's done a good enough job laying off

[00:22:06] and drawing his walks.

[00:22:07] It's pretty important as a catcher

[00:22:08] and it's reflected well in his offensive game so far.

[00:22:12] Do we think his walk rate's gonna stay up this year

[00:22:14] or do we think this is an early season trend?

[00:22:16] His Cal does walk.

[00:22:17] He was a nine and a half percent walk rate guy last year.

[00:22:20] He walks usually above 9%, which is a good clip

[00:22:23] but if he's actually gonna up tick it a little bit

[00:22:25] the more the merrier.

[00:22:27] It could go up a tick.

[00:22:29] Well, I don't know.

[00:22:30] I don't think it's gonna stay at 13%.

[00:22:32] That's a little bit high for Cal Raleigh.

[00:22:34] I would be interested to see how the new approach

[00:22:37] with the plate affects Cal Raleigh.

[00:22:38] And what of this sustains?

[00:22:41] How is Cal Raleigh gonna look different

[00:22:43] with this brand-brown approach?

[00:22:44] There was a report today.

[00:22:45] Shannon Dreyer wrote about it

[00:22:47] and just sort of how the Mariners' Offense

[00:22:50] has caught its wheels a little bit.

[00:22:52] The tires hit the ground

[00:22:53] and started rolling a little bit

[00:22:55] with this offensive approach.

[00:22:56] And I think Scott was mentioning

[00:22:58] sometime in the first 10 games

[00:22:59] that he didn't feel like the offense

[00:23:02] that not enough guys on the offense

[00:23:03] were totally buying into the approach.

[00:23:06] Yeah, they didn't take it from Arizona back to Seattle.

[00:23:09] They kind of left it in Arizona.

[00:23:10] Now those guys are starting to sort of continue

[00:23:14] to buy into the approach

[00:23:15] and bring it to the games that actually count.

[00:23:18] And it seems like if the approach is 100% success-based,

[00:23:23] like Cal has found it,

[00:23:25] again, we're gonna see how it actually reflects

[00:23:27] in the season-long stats.

[00:23:28] But right now he's doing exactly

[00:23:30] what you wanna catch her to do.

[00:23:32] You wanna catch her to just be good

[00:23:33] at something offensively.

[00:23:35] He doesn't need to be the perfect hitter.

[00:23:36] He just needs to be really good at something.

[00:23:38] And for Cal Raleigh, it's hitting the ball hard

[00:23:40] and hitting it over the fence.

[00:23:43] And I will say, the offense is starting to come together.

[00:23:47] It's not perfect, not everybody's there yet,

[00:23:49] but in different ways and shapes

[00:23:52] you're starting to see it formulate now

[00:23:53] to your point about the approach

[00:23:55] starting to get better as a collective group.

[00:23:58] So Julio's last seven games, he's hitting 4-64.

[00:24:01] It's pretty good.

[00:24:02] Now he hasn't hit a home run yet.

[00:24:03] We all know that.

[00:24:04] There was a ball he hit in Colorado

[00:24:05] that had it not been awful conditions,

[00:24:07] would have gotten out.

[00:24:08] But you're starting to see him time it up better.

[00:24:10] You're starting to see him hit it harder.

[00:24:11] That's a great sign.

[00:24:13] Jorge Polanco last seven games,

[00:24:14] low average OPS is over 750.

[00:24:17] And we know Jorge Polanco started to get hot

[00:24:19] over the last stretches of different parts

[00:24:21] of the last week or two.

[00:24:23] And we saw him have a really good series

[00:24:25] about a week ago.

[00:24:26] So Jorge Polanco has gotten hot in different spurs.

[00:24:28] JP Crawford, he's not slugging yet.

[00:24:30] But again, last seven games he's hitting 2-67.

[00:24:33] So piece by piece, it's coming together.

[00:24:35] And then Cal, Cal's just been on a tear

[00:24:39] over the last week and a half.

[00:24:40] So yeah, it's all getting closer.

[00:24:42] The last piece here is Mitch Garber starting to really hit

[00:24:45] because they need that guy to hit.

[00:24:46] But piece by piece, it's not all perfect,

[00:24:49] but you're starting to see it get better.

[00:24:50] Did you just use batting average?

[00:24:52] Well, usually that would go against

[00:24:54] every single philosophy of this podcast.

[00:24:56] Usually I would not do that.

[00:24:57] However, in a seven game sample,

[00:25:00] I did use it because that sample's gonna be very small.

[00:25:05] Interesting.

[00:25:06] Did I just get fine?

[00:25:07] I don't know how to receive that.

[00:25:08] Did I just get fined in Kangaroo Court

[00:25:09] for using batting average?

[00:25:10] I think you did, yeah.

[00:25:11] You broke one of the rules of this podcast.

[00:25:14] It's like if you came out and said,

[00:25:16] TJ, I support Angel Hernandez

[00:25:17] in 100% of his decisions.

[00:25:21] Okay, Julio had a 10-19 OPS in his last seven years.

[00:25:23] Hey!

[00:25:25] That's a lot better.

[00:25:26] The problem is JP Crawford's not slugging at all

[00:25:29] in the last seven games.

[00:25:30] However, I'm trying to pinpoint that he is hitting.

[00:25:33] You could have said, hey, he almost hit a Grand Slam on Sunday.

[00:25:36] Right.

[00:25:38] And he still gets slugging points for the triple,

[00:25:41] but we know he's gonna have to hit for a little bit of power

[00:25:45] because that's what made him successful last year.

[00:25:48] But again, hitting 267 in his last seven games,

[00:25:51] I usually wouldn't talk about batting average,

[00:25:52] but it does show that he is starting to get more hits.

[00:25:56] Shame.

[00:25:57] Yeah. Shame.

[00:25:59] I just got finding him.

[00:26:00] It's like the Game of Thrones

[00:26:00] were walking you down the streets with a cowbell.

[00:26:04] Shame.

[00:26:06] Yeah.

[00:26:07] But all that being said,

[00:26:08] the best players are starting to figure it out a little bit.

[00:26:10] Garver needs to get going.

[00:26:12] I think he will buy it slowly,

[00:26:14] but surely it's coming together.

[00:26:15] This Texas series would be a good time.

[00:26:17] Garver will be back indoors

[00:26:18] sitting at a ballpark he's familiar with

[00:26:20] and against a staff he knows pretty, pretty well.

[00:26:23] So that would be a good sign.

[00:26:25] But overall, right, we're seeing the...

[00:26:27] Well, overall, we're seeing the combination

[00:26:28] of what we expected come together.

[00:26:30] We talked about it a little bit

[00:26:31] on the live stream on Sunday.

[00:26:33] The defense has gotten a little bit better.

[00:26:35] It has given the Mariners a chance in games.

[00:26:37] The offense has come around

[00:26:39] and the pitching has been unbelievable.

[00:26:41] When you have those three combined together,

[00:26:44] it is gonna be really hard for the Mariners

[00:26:45] to go on any sort of losing streak

[00:26:47] because there's too many components

[00:26:49] to winning baseball

[00:26:51] within those three pillars right there

[00:26:53] for the Mariners to have to worry about much at all.

[00:26:55] And there will more often than not

[00:26:56] be more wins than losses.

[00:26:58] So now like really the measuring stick,

[00:27:00] there will already be a game

[00:27:01] by the time this podcast comes out

[00:27:03] against the Texas Rangers.

[00:27:04] But this series against the Rangers

[00:27:07] is the first true measuring stick of the season

[00:27:10] when it comes to, okay,

[00:27:12] are these tangible differences noticed

[00:27:16] against the big dogs,

[00:27:17] against the team that just won the World Series last year?

[00:27:19] The team that you could not beat.

[00:27:21] If you beat them, you were in the playoffs,

[00:27:22] but you could not beat them.

[00:27:24] So you're not in the playoffs.

[00:27:25] That's where we're measuring up against for now.

[00:27:28] Yeah, agreed.

[00:27:29] It's gonna be a good series.

[00:27:31] I really enjoyed this conversation with Trevor May.

[00:27:33] Like I didn't, he really,

[00:27:35] what Trevor May does that I like so well,

[00:27:37] he sort of humanizes the athlete.

[00:27:40] And this is probably because I think,

[00:27:42] well, we don't have enough players

[00:27:44] doing their own thing in media.

[00:27:45] Maybe too many players on TV, for example,

[00:27:48] where you know, on TV, you're not,

[00:27:50] you're not really bringing your own personality out.

[00:27:52] But Trevor May is essentially now embracing

[00:27:56] his own content creator self,

[00:27:57] which he actually really, really enjoys.

[00:27:59] And you'll hear in the conversation how much,

[00:28:01] like really how much he enjoys doing this stuff.

[00:28:03] Like how much, like how much his brain

[00:28:06] is thinking about these things

[00:28:08] and how much he enjoys sort of bringing

[00:28:10] this type of content on his YouTube channel

[00:28:12] or any of his other expenditures

[00:28:15] around the game of baseball to people

[00:28:17] and just creating stuff all around it.

[00:28:20] He really loves this stuff.

[00:28:22] And I think it's good to have ball players

[00:28:23] who are willing to sort of learn

[00:28:25] and put out good content like this

[00:28:27] to talk about things that might not even know.

[00:28:29] For example, he has a video out there of

[00:28:31] what is it like the 24 things

[00:28:33] you didn't know big leaguers get.

[00:28:35] Very interesting video on his YouTube channel

[00:28:37] that a lot of these things I had no idea

[00:28:39] that you get being a big leager.

[00:28:42] And it's just one of the many interesting things

[00:28:44] he sort of brings to the table as a media personality

[00:28:47] now that he's retired.

[00:28:48] And he's a Pacific Northwest guy.

[00:28:51] If baseball had more Trevor Mays,

[00:28:54] the game would grow tenfold.

[00:28:56] Tenfold.

[00:28:57] He's awesome.

[00:28:58] And we get into so much with him

[00:29:00] both talking about him growing up

[00:29:02] as a Mariners fan.

[00:29:04] Again Pacific Northwest guy wanting to play

[00:29:06] for the Mariners when he was a free agent.

[00:29:07] We dive into that a little bit.

[00:29:09] Him being at the playoff game

[00:29:11] and about the whole content thing.

[00:29:13] He's known he's wanted to do content forever now

[00:29:15] well before he started playing.

[00:29:17] So he talks about that

[00:29:18] and we get into some of his YouTube videos too

[00:29:21] where he brings up some really cool topics

[00:29:22] and he goes in depth with us on it a little bit.

[00:29:25] Really fun.

[00:29:26] We cover a whole range of things.

[00:29:28] It was a really fun conversation with Trevor May.

[00:29:29] We're excited to have you guys hear it.

[00:29:31] Let's get you guys to the conversation now

[00:29:33] with Trevor May.

[00:29:37] All right, we've got Trevor May,

[00:29:39] 10 year big league pitcher,

[00:29:40] also baseball content creator on YouTube,

[00:29:43] on Twitch, on all your short form

[00:29:45] social media platforms.

[00:29:46] And now newest host of FAL territory.

[00:29:50] You can be honest,

[00:29:52] is the biggest perk of being on FAL territory

[00:29:55] getting to get Scott Braun's hair routine

[00:29:57] or his workout routine?

[00:30:01] We'll go with hair for now.

[00:30:02] I'm still updating my hair

[00:30:05] and not that he's not in phenomenal shape

[00:30:07] but you know what, I got some experience working out too.

[00:30:09] So I got some confidence there.

[00:30:11] I know I can take care of myself

[00:30:12] but yeah, the hair looks great.

[00:30:13] I mean, that's one thing that I,

[00:30:15] he's definitely on another level than me for sure.

[00:30:18] But Trevor, you still pretty good hair.

[00:30:20] That's solid hair.

[00:30:21] He'll actually, you know, I changed my part this year,

[00:30:25] more to a natural area

[00:30:27] and it's really paying dividends.

[00:30:30] I'll be honest, I'm very happy

[00:30:31] even though I'm wearing a hat today.

[00:30:32] We watched the hair today.

[00:30:34] I feel like I'm my wife now.

[00:30:37] These are things she says.

[00:30:38] Oh, it's hair washing day.

[00:30:40] But yeah, yeah, I've been practicing.

[00:30:43] We'll see but Scott's got secrets.

[00:30:47] What's the biggest difference between playing hair

[00:30:49] and non-playing hair for Trevor May?

[00:30:52] Nothing yet.

[00:30:53] I let it grow last year.

[00:30:55] Usually I'm just kind of lazy

[00:30:57] and it gets unruly

[00:30:59] and now I have no excuse

[00:31:01] but to have a standing appointment with my barber.

[00:31:05] So it'll be that I'm on TV a little bit more.

[00:31:09] So or I guess internet TV.

[00:31:12] I'm on camera a lot more.

[00:31:13] So I am realizing like,

[00:31:15] dang, I gotta like really think about this.

[00:31:17] I'm gonna take care of it now.

[00:31:18] Which kind of stinks but at the same time,

[00:31:22] you know, you gotta transition some point.

[00:31:25] So are we talking haircuts every two weeks, every month?

[00:31:28] Like how often is it gonna be?

[00:31:30] It's over three weeks right now

[00:31:32] which is kind of the sweet spot.

[00:31:34] So it can grow a little bit

[00:31:35] but yeah, I'm not the high fade guy anymore.

[00:31:38] We're going more with a retired guy haircut.

[00:31:42] Well, Trevor, congrats really on joining FALT Territory.

[00:31:46] And it sounds like you are keeping yourself

[00:31:48] as busy as possible in the baseball retirement world

[00:31:52] but since FALT Territory is the most recent addition

[00:31:56] to your portfolio,

[00:31:58] what was so intriguing about wanting to join them

[00:32:01] and hang out with Scott Braun, friend of this show.

[00:32:03] He's awesome but they do a really great job

[00:32:05] over there at FALT Territory.

[00:32:06] So what made that so appealing for you?

[00:32:10] Yeah, I'm aware of them.

[00:32:12] It's a very similarly formatted to a lot of like your stuff

[00:32:21] on MLB TV or whatever

[00:32:23] but I like that there's so many players involved

[00:32:27] and that it's theirs.

[00:32:30] There's not as much,

[00:32:32] you don't have to worry so much about having a hot take

[00:32:35] or criticizing an owner frankly.

[00:32:39] That was big because I think we have been well established

[00:32:42] that I have no problem doing that now.

[00:32:45] So that was a lot of it.

[00:32:47] And then I'll be honest, a big kicker

[00:32:49] and not take anything away from all the guys

[00:32:51] but the fact that Locain is involved.

[00:32:53] I cannot wait to do a show with Locain.

[00:32:55] He's like, I've been in my mirror from afar

[00:32:58] that he retired on his 10 years to the day

[00:33:02] is like the thing that everyone

[00:33:03] all relievers joke about.

[00:33:05] Like, oh, I can't wait to retire right

[00:33:06] when I get my pension.

[00:33:07] He actually did it, which is incredible.

[00:33:11] And the day he did that I was like, my man,

[00:33:14] he's lived the dream so Locain being there is a lot to do

[00:33:19] but yeah, it's just fun.

[00:33:21] They're doing a great job.

[00:33:22] And I think that it's kind of the players

[00:33:27] players that freshly retire.

[00:33:30] It's kind of our job a little bit

[00:33:33] to continue to grow the game.

[00:33:35] And I think we have more of a connection to younger fans

[00:33:38] than powers to be for the big media around the game.

[00:33:42] So I saw that as an opportunity as well.

[00:33:45] And yeah, working with Scott and everybody is always,

[00:33:48] you know, their consummate professionals

[00:33:50] and they know what they're doing over there

[00:33:51] and I like the team.

[00:33:53] So yeah, it's gonna be a good time.

[00:33:54] And I have a little bit of a,

[00:33:56] I'm the only pitcher too.

[00:33:57] So like they needed a pitcher

[00:33:59] but you can't have a show with 10 players.

[00:34:01] That's awful.

[00:34:02] So yeah, I filled that gap as well.

[00:34:05] So it just made sense.

[00:34:06] As a recently retired player,

[00:34:08] like very freshly retired, you can speak on this.

[00:34:11] What is that trust factor between

[00:34:14] but knowing there's like other very recently retired players

[00:34:17] who want this platform to be for players

[00:34:20] as opposed to say like an MLB network or something else?

[00:34:25] Yeah, it's important that, you know,

[00:34:26] they understand because it's fresh like what we wanted.

[00:34:31] It's just more fun when you can let loose

[00:34:34] a little bit or not feel so can't,

[00:34:36] like you have to have canned answers

[00:34:38] because you don't wanna upset anybody.

[00:34:42] And it feels like guys are more open

[00:34:44] to speaking their mind when they feel a little more comfortable.

[00:34:47] And it's not even about like super hot takes

[00:34:49] or like, you know, coming out, going in on somebody

[00:34:51] like they're coaching staff or whatever.

[00:34:53] But you know, you should be able to be like,

[00:34:55] you know, I'm not necessarily happy with this situation

[00:34:58] and that's understandable.

[00:35:00] I think that that space just doesn't exist.

[00:35:02] Like there's just no, there's nowhere to do that.

[00:35:05] You know, you can vent to the PA

[00:35:08] but like that's kind of the same thing.

[00:35:11] So it's not really, there's not a lot to,

[00:35:15] if you're not happy with how things are going

[00:35:18] because I feel like there's been a lot

[00:35:20] of things like that recently with the lockout.

[00:35:23] And then we had 2020 and we have,

[00:35:26] now we have all this, like all the rule changes.

[00:35:28] Like it's every single year

[00:35:29] there's something that players like have to push against

[00:35:31] and we don't have any ways to push against things

[00:35:36] when, you know, the powers to be have control

[00:35:38] of the levers of the communication and the narrative.

[00:35:41] And we haven't, nothing really exists.

[00:35:44] There's just a very little that the players can do

[00:35:47] to give their own messaging.

[00:35:49] So being part of that process I think is great.

[00:35:52] And I think these guys get it also.

[00:35:55] I mean, it's not like the number one mission statement

[00:35:59] but you know, it's guys, you know,

[00:36:01] pap and cats and phrase and like these guys don't have it

[00:36:05] have reputations for speaking their minds as players.

[00:36:07] And so now they have a platform to do it.

[00:36:09] It's just a group of guys that like,

[00:36:10] you need those guys in the clubhouse

[00:36:11] or wouldn't be like, ah, this is stupid.

[00:36:13] This is stupid.

[00:36:14] We don't want to do, we're not doing this.

[00:36:16] You got to have those guys

[00:36:17] and all those guys were those guys in their clubhouses.

[00:36:19] So having them on, in the media is awesome.

[00:36:24] Well, speaking of having a platform to speak their minds

[00:36:27] you've been pretty involved in content,

[00:36:29] in media for a while, like well before you retired.

[00:36:32] So at what point in your career

[00:36:34] did you start to say to yourself,

[00:36:36] oh, I like having a voice.

[00:36:37] I want to talk about certain things.

[00:36:39] I want to connect with fans in this way.

[00:36:40] Like when did you start to get the idea

[00:36:42] that you wanted to be involved in some sort of media?

[00:36:47] I think that maybe the sitting in front of a camera

[00:36:50] with a microphone came around maybe like 2014.

[00:36:54] Maybe right when I got called up

[00:36:56] and it wasn't really associated with that.

[00:36:57] It was more like that was just the time

[00:36:59] with like, which was starting to get going

[00:37:01] and I love video games.

[00:37:02] And I just, I always get into my hobbies.

[00:37:04] From the day I was drafted, like I knew,

[00:37:07] I knew there was so many things

[00:37:08] that outside of the game that I want to do.

[00:37:10] I've always projected past the game.

[00:37:12] Like I always believed that

[00:37:13] the light beyond my game was gonna be,

[00:37:16] you know, just as fulfilling or more or so

[00:37:18] or more exciting than play.

[00:37:21] I've always thought about that

[00:37:22] and which is, it was a really optimistic way

[00:37:25] of thinking about how fun life's gonna be living to live.

[00:37:28] But I've always been like this.

[00:37:32] If I would have graduated high school in like 2013 instead of 2008,

[00:37:38] I can't say that I wouldn't have just been a YouTuber

[00:37:41] because I definitely would have done this.

[00:37:42] I just was, it was so early.

[00:37:44] Like it wasn't a real thing.

[00:37:46] Like people weren't like doing it as a job in 2007.

[00:37:49] It existed but it was like, it wasn't a thing

[00:37:52] like it is now.

[00:37:53] And I definitely would have went down this road.

[00:37:56] Without sports, if I wasn't like a big dude

[00:37:59] who athletics worked out,

[00:38:01] if athletics didn't work out,

[00:38:02] I would have 100% been a theater kid.

[00:38:03] I think so.

[00:38:04] I think I would have tried acting or something probably

[00:38:06] because it's just like, I liked that whole,

[00:38:08] like writing and coming up with interesting stories

[00:38:11] and like doing all that kind of stuff

[00:38:13] is really interesting to me.

[00:38:14] So this just makes sense.

[00:38:16] But the streaming when I figured out

[00:38:18] I was pretty good at it and I have the energy for it.

[00:38:21] And I can be honest, we all have like 80,

[00:38:24] we like all of my gamer friends,

[00:38:25] we all have 80D and I'm like, oh, I have 80D.

[00:38:27] This is great.

[00:38:28] This is a perfect thing for me.

[00:38:29] I can bounce around and play video games

[00:38:30] and focus on three things that just be,

[00:38:32] you know, talk to chat all day.

[00:38:34] Like so it just made sense.

[00:38:37] And the more I got into it,

[00:38:38] the more I learned about it,

[00:38:39] the more I got locked in.

[00:38:41] And so for a while now

[00:38:43] I've been looking forward to this.

[00:38:45] I'll be honest.

[00:38:46] So you say a while at the quote that stood out to me

[00:38:49] when you said you retired

[00:38:50] is that you, you, you hated like you,

[00:38:53] it got to the point where you said

[00:38:54] you like dreaded going to spring training.

[00:38:56] It's like leaving all the fun things behind.

[00:38:58] Like what point was that about?

[00:39:01] And like when did that start creeping into your mind?

[00:39:03] I'll be honest.

[00:39:04] And I've been pretty clear or pretty honest about this,

[00:39:06] but like there was, there was very,

[00:39:08] there's been very few spring trainings

[00:39:10] where I was like, let's, you know, let's go.

[00:39:11] But I think it came down to like,

[00:39:14] I'm not a, like I'm not a huge fan of Florida.

[00:39:17] Like I don't necessarily like living there very much.

[00:39:20] So like it was always like,

[00:39:21] this isn't a place that I like being very much.

[00:39:23] It didn't have anything to do with baseball.

[00:39:25] It's funny once the baseball started,

[00:39:27] this kind of goes away.

[00:39:27] So it was always like the transition,

[00:39:29] the stopping and starting.

[00:39:31] And that is, that is something that I've always struggled

[00:39:33] with just like when I'm really enjoying doing something,

[00:39:36] having to transition into something else,

[00:39:37] no matter what it is,

[00:39:38] even if that's going to be enjoying too,

[00:39:41] it's hard and it frustrates me.

[00:39:43] And basically every single year we'd come home

[00:39:46] and be the winner and everyone would kind of hibernate.

[00:39:49] And then as soon as everyone starts coming out

[00:39:50] and starts to do stuff again, I believe.

[00:39:54] And it happened every year.

[00:39:56] And that, either some FOMO attached to that

[00:40:00] and even when it was like building a YouTube channel

[00:40:03] and like streaming stuff,

[00:40:04] I was like, I really got streaming going.

[00:40:06] We were cooking and then I had to stop.

[00:40:08] And it was the same thing with YouTube.

[00:40:10] I was like, okay, I got time to make eight videos

[00:40:11] if I want to do one a week, you know,

[00:40:13] and then I got to stop again.

[00:40:15] And that would just got really like,

[00:40:16] I never knew how good I could be at it.

[00:40:18] And I'm not one of those people

[00:40:19] that like doesn't like to see things through.

[00:40:21] So all of that kind of combined,

[00:40:23] just made it hard to transition.

[00:40:25] But it really had nothing to do with the game of baseball.

[00:40:27] Like once I got there and switched my brain

[00:40:29] and I was like all in and I loved, I love that puzzle.

[00:40:32] But it was just, it was just hard.

[00:40:36] And I, but like I love, I loved playing.

[00:40:39] And once we were going, like I didn't even think about it.

[00:40:41] But then once I come home,

[00:40:42] I was like, oh yeah, this is what I remember.

[00:40:44] Because it's just, it's basically just

[00:40:46] you can do whatever you want.

[00:40:47] And you have that passion.

[00:40:48] So whatever you're excited about,

[00:40:50] imagine if that's all you had to do ever.

[00:40:54] It's awesome.

[00:40:54] So yeah, that's kind of where it was.

[00:40:57] It was weird.

[00:40:58] It was interesting.

[00:40:58] And then recently there's just a lot of,

[00:41:01] like I mentioned a lot of the things with the game

[00:41:04] and feeling a little bit like frustrated

[00:41:06] by things that I deemed injustices or whatever.

[00:41:11] Like just the way things are done.

[00:41:12] It's just felt very gross at times.

[00:41:15] I don't want to deal with these people anymore.

[00:41:17] I don't want to listen to Rob anymore.

[00:41:19] Like there was a part where I was,

[00:41:20] I don't want to hear any more of this stuff.

[00:41:23] Or I don't want to be beholden to someone that I,

[00:41:27] you know, there's been times

[00:41:28] where there were people above me in organizations

[00:41:30] where I was like, I don't think you know what you're doing.

[00:41:33] And it sucks that you have control over my life.

[00:41:36] And so that happens.

[00:41:38] That happens over time too.

[00:41:39] So there's a lot of that.

[00:41:39] But I would say, yeah, like since I was drafted

[00:41:44] I can count on probably one hand the number

[00:41:45] of screen trainings where I was chomping at the bit.

[00:41:48] But it was mostly because of the whole,

[00:41:50] the hassle with moving.

[00:41:51] Mostly that not the game

[00:41:53] or I would not have played it this long.

[00:41:55] I think you know, you don't play 16 years

[00:41:58] without loving the thing you're doing

[00:41:59] at least to a level.

[00:42:01] So but yeah, it was been,

[00:42:03] got really complicated recently

[00:42:04] and to the point where I was just like,

[00:42:07] I don't have any more commitments to teams.

[00:42:08] So like I can make this decision

[00:42:10] and then my wife and I just decided that it was time.

[00:42:13] And you didn't want to wear those pants.

[00:42:15] And I got out early.

[00:42:17] I got out of this in time guys.

[00:42:19] Though I'm been fixed, but I'm pretty sure that

[00:42:21] literally the whole league is wearing their pants

[00:42:23] from last year.

[00:42:24] So that's their case has been.

[00:42:26] Let's get better than the current product.

[00:42:28] Prime example, no, the pants are still the same.

[00:42:31] No, they're not like,

[00:42:34] like no, they're not.

[00:42:35] Just say we're working on it and we're good.

[00:42:36] But no, you can't help yourself.

[00:42:38] So that kind of stuff.

[00:42:40] That's the stuff that I was just,

[00:42:41] if I was still playing I would be like,

[00:42:43] I would have to engage it because it just drives me nuts.

[00:42:46] So these are gonna get changed, right?

[00:42:48] The jerseys because the backlash has been about

[00:42:51] as universally negative as I've ever seen

[00:42:54] for something baseball really.

[00:42:55] Like I haven't seen a single person's like,

[00:42:57] you know what, I do kind of like the new jerseys.

[00:42:59] Like I feel like the backlash has been so bad

[00:43:01] that it's like they're gonna change it.

[00:43:04] I wouldn't hold my breath,

[00:43:06] but the thing is now it's not being actively

[00:43:08] tagged about as much and they're not changed.

[00:43:11] So they might be like, oh, we might be okay.

[00:43:14] Come, we'll see what the regular season jerseys look like.

[00:43:18] Because again, spring training jerseys are usually different.

[00:43:21] But if the lettering and stuff,

[00:43:23] if they're making the changes that way again,

[00:43:27] then it's gonna become another thing

[00:43:29] in the first week of the season.

[00:43:30] And if that's big enough, then yeah,

[00:43:31] maybe there's some, maybe change,

[00:43:33] but don't be surprised if it's the same going

[00:43:35] on opening day, especially because it's next week.

[00:43:37] Oh, yeah, there's probably no chance

[00:43:39] that we change for them.

[00:43:40] Oh boy.

[00:43:41] Well, I guess we're gonna have to bear through it then.

[00:43:44] Yep.

[00:43:45] Put it lightly.

[00:43:46] Just kinda squint and you'll be all right.

[00:43:49] So you mentioned how that for a lot of years

[00:43:52] you weren't exactly all fired up,

[00:43:54] at least at the starting point

[00:43:56] to get to spring training.

[00:43:58] Would it have been different last year

[00:44:01] in your final year if you would ended up

[00:44:04] signing with the Mariners like you've openly talked about

[00:44:06] how badly you wanted to do?

[00:44:08] Like would that have been a spring training

[00:44:09] or you would have been absolutely fired up?

[00:44:11] Probably, yeah.

[00:44:12] Yeah.

[00:44:13] That would have been.

[00:44:14] It's one of those things like,

[00:44:16] I loved my time with the Mets

[00:44:17] and I love my time with the A's.

[00:44:19] I love my time with the Twins

[00:44:20] and I'm so happy that I was brought into those fan base

[00:44:26] and brought into those fandoms.

[00:44:27] But like, especially in New York,

[00:44:31] I was like, yeah, you'd love that 1986 team.

[00:44:33] And like guys, I didn't know until I got here,

[00:44:36] I couldn't have told you who won the World Series in 1986.

[00:44:40] I didn't grow up a Mets fan.

[00:44:41] Like why do you, like so,

[00:44:43] I grew up a Mariners fan though and buying in,

[00:44:46] there's just something special

[00:44:47] about playing for your hometown team.

[00:44:48] And I've heard this from everyone

[00:44:49] who went back and played for their hometown team.

[00:44:51] There's so many guys that were like,

[00:44:53] everyone tried to go back and like,

[00:44:54] they didn't get to play for them

[00:44:55] and play for them by last year

[00:44:57] they tried to get there for one year

[00:44:58] because they want to experience it.

[00:44:59] And they said,

[00:45:00] it's just like the pressure is just,

[00:45:01] it just feels like you're a kid again,

[00:45:04] you're bought in, you see the people you saw.

[00:45:07] Like I lost my mind when I saw Griffey

[00:45:09] last two years ago, I met him.

[00:45:11] Corey Hunter introduced me and that was,

[00:45:14] I mean he was, in his defense,

[00:45:16] he was very like, great to meet you.

[00:45:17] And like was leaving, but like,

[00:45:19] it didn't matter.

[00:45:20] He could have punched me in the face

[00:45:21] and I would have been like, that was awesome.

[00:45:23] So that was one of the coolest things ever.

[00:45:25] He's like, you know, he's King of Virginia.

[00:45:27] So like that's, you know,

[00:45:29] I've met, I met Nolan Ryan,

[00:45:31] I've met, you know, Reggie Jackson.

[00:45:32] I've met all the, all the, I'm Rick Anderson,

[00:45:34] but like meet and Griffey was just another level for me.

[00:45:37] So I think that I would have really been able to buy in.

[00:45:40] I also would have been able to sleep in my own home.

[00:45:42] A house I bought three years ago

[00:45:44] that I never get to live in

[00:45:45] for more than four months out of the year.

[00:45:48] It would just feel like we're going on business trips.

[00:45:50] I think that would have changed my perception.

[00:45:52] I think my whole career, if it was like that,

[00:45:54] or Joe Maurer just stayed at home,

[00:45:56] I would have a different relationship

[00:45:58] with what the season means for me.

[00:46:01] And I would see if you were at Mariners Spring Training,

[00:46:04] the other thing that you would love.

[00:46:06] I mean, you'd be working out with each year all the time.

[00:46:08] I mean, it's just so casual how he'll just walk in there.

[00:46:11] He's all dressed and ready to go.

[00:46:13] You could have been his throwing partner.

[00:46:14] He was like, Julio wanted that this year,

[00:46:17] but you get to say, hey, Julio, man,

[00:46:19] can we split some time here?

[00:46:21] Exactly. Yeah.

[00:46:22] It would have been really cool too.

[00:46:24] I did get to play against each row

[00:46:26] when he was with the Marlins,

[00:46:27] but I missed him in the lineup by one matter

[00:46:29] because I got pulled because I was getting lit up.

[00:46:31] And it was really, like the saddest thing I was,

[00:46:34] I was like, dang it dude,

[00:46:35] you can just pitch a little bit better.

[00:46:37] Get one more hitter just so you could face him.

[00:46:40] So yeah, I never got to face each row of that

[00:46:43] without it being really cool.

[00:46:44] I have met him once.

[00:46:44] I met him in high school

[00:46:46] as he was around during our high school

[00:46:47] state championship game.

[00:46:48] I think he was like rehabbing something.

[00:46:51] And yeah, it was pretty cool.

[00:46:56] Again, it was like the grippy thing is like,

[00:46:57] hey, high school kids, what's up?

[00:46:59] Because I've also done that.

[00:47:01] So I don't blame him for that,

[00:47:02] but still just like seeing him in the flesh

[00:47:05] would be super cool.

[00:47:07] What were you going to throw to him?

[00:47:09] Do you have the pitch sequence already mapped out?

[00:47:11] Oh no, I can see him here.

[00:47:13] I just didn't even bother.

[00:47:14] I just assumed the ball was going to be a liner up the middle.

[00:47:17] So I was like,

[00:47:19] I'll probably just throw you a change of way

[00:47:20] and just let you do it.

[00:47:22] So I can just be like, nice.

[00:47:24] It's odd the quintessential each row single.

[00:47:29] Was your state title game at T-Mobile Park?

[00:47:32] Yes.

[00:47:32] Oh, cool.

[00:47:33] Yet some years it's there.

[00:47:35] Some years they do it in other places

[00:47:36] like out in tri cities or whatever.

[00:47:38] In tri cities or they didn't chainie for a long time,

[00:47:40] but I don't think they'd do that anymore.

[00:47:43] Okay, yeah, that sounds right.

[00:47:45] Well, I am curious just a little bit about

[00:47:48] what you said on that Twitch stream

[00:47:49] a few months back about like the same topic

[00:47:51] you really wanted to play for the Mariners.

[00:47:53] I know you talked about

[00:47:54] there was even a couple other negotiations going on

[00:47:56] that you kind of let go by the wayside

[00:47:58] because you were really holding on to this idea.

[00:48:01] So like I guess for what you feel comfortable sharing

[00:48:04] like did you ever get to the table

[00:48:06] or was it never even really a discussion

[00:48:08] with coming home to play in Seattle?

[00:48:11] Yeah, it never got to the table.

[00:48:13] There was some like half excitement at times.

[00:48:21] But as we see with Jerry and the brass now

[00:48:25] is like things move really slowly.

[00:48:26] Like they're not gonna sign.

[00:48:27] They're not gonna go sign it.

[00:48:28] They're not gonna sign like a top level reliever

[00:48:31] and they're not gonna sign a mid tier reliever either.

[00:48:34] Like a solid picture that has a high ceiling maybe

[00:48:37] they're gonna sign Diamond in the Rough for nothing

[00:48:40] or they're going to get them from their own organization.

[00:48:45] That's how they run the bullpen

[00:48:46] which from a financial standpoint makes a lot of sense

[00:48:49] and I don't blame them for that.

[00:48:52] Most teams do that now, but like it,

[00:48:55] it's like can I help the team?

[00:48:58] Yeah, like there's no doubt in my mind

[00:49:01] that I would be a guy who absolutely locks

[00:49:04] helps lock that bullpen down.

[00:49:05] Especially being at home.

[00:49:06] I just like there's just no,

[00:49:07] there was no scenario in where I wouldn't be wildly successful

[00:49:10] and probably have my best year.

[00:49:11] So like having that confidence.

[00:49:13] But again, you have that they don't know that.

[00:49:15] So like they don't, you don't know that either.

[00:49:18] You're just really confident.

[00:49:19] So it was frustrating at times

[00:49:22] and there were some other things

[00:49:23] like my agent has a relationship with him.

[00:49:25] Like he's had teams with players with them

[00:49:27] before he's Robbie Ray.

[00:49:29] Like so he's well, you know, he talks to them regularly.

[00:49:33] They were just like, they're like,

[00:49:35] it'll be like how's Trevor feel about playing here?

[00:49:37] Like, like sure, they've said a couple of times.

[00:49:39] Right, like just kind of offhand.

[00:49:41] Like really good.

[00:49:43] I don't know what to tell you.

[00:49:44] I would have taken,

[00:49:45] I probably would have taken a pay cut.

[00:49:46] I would have taken less money to go to Seattle

[00:49:48] than I took an open.

[00:49:49] Like no, no, like money was not an option,

[00:49:52] not a, not a, not an object.

[00:49:53] Frankly, I just wanted to have fun

[00:49:55] and enjoy myself and not worry about it.

[00:49:57] And it just never got there.

[00:49:59] Cause that's just not what happens in negotiations.

[00:50:01] You don't just go, hey, I'll take less money.

[00:50:02] Cause that's just not a good,

[00:50:04] it's not a good way to approach those things.

[00:50:07] And you kind of handcuff your agent too.

[00:50:09] And I don't want to do that either.

[00:50:10] So, but yeah, the A-Sing Colest

[00:50:12] because it was kind of the next best thing.

[00:50:16] If you had played for the Mariners last year,

[00:50:18] would you still be retired right now?

[00:50:21] I would say it's a lot less likely probably.

[00:50:25] But again, it depends on how it went

[00:50:26] or maybe, you know, maybe it went great

[00:50:29] and we just missed the playoffs or what, you know,

[00:50:30] same thing happened, say the same thing happened last year

[00:50:32] as it did last year.

[00:50:33] And then, you know, it was just pretty clear that like,

[00:50:36] you know, thank you for everything.

[00:50:37] But, but it would have been a nice little thank you.

[00:50:42] I did it great.

[00:50:43] I'll see you guys opening day next year cause I'm coming.

[00:50:46] So that would have been, that would have been great.

[00:50:49] But yeah, I don't know.

[00:50:51] I think that we didn't, we just didn't know

[00:50:53] how it would have been.

[00:50:54] We don't know what our life would have been.

[00:50:56] Like my wife didn't know what it'd be like to have like

[00:50:58] be around all of her friends all summer

[00:50:59] and be like, have things to do

[00:51:00] and not have to worry about like if she's gonna go to,

[00:51:02] she didn't like, she didn't go to that many games.

[00:51:04] Like, she's just like baseball that much,

[00:51:06] which is okay.

[00:51:08] You don't have to fake it.

[00:51:09] So it's just, she liked it.

[00:51:12] It was fine.

[00:51:13] But like, she didn't go to baseball games as a kid.

[00:51:15] She didn't really know anything about baseball

[00:51:16] until she met me.

[00:51:17] So I never, I never really needed that.

[00:51:20] So it just became like, you know, who knows how much,

[00:51:24] how much more fun or how much more enjoyment

[00:51:28] we would have had if we were able to do it here.

[00:51:30] Did the Mariners making the playoffs in 22

[00:51:33] like increase the want more?

[00:51:38] I mean, it didn't hurt.

[00:51:40] Yeah.

[00:51:40] It didn't hurt, but like, you know,

[00:51:43] yeah wanting to be a part of the team that did it

[00:51:45] or be a part of team like this turnaround

[00:51:47] and like be here,

[00:51:48] seeing the whole thing from the beginning to the now

[00:51:50] and just being on the team when that happened

[00:51:52] would have been so cool.

[00:51:55] You know, they had, well, they had Boyd.

[00:51:58] Yeah, Matt, I was gonna mention it.

[00:52:00] Not much everyone, but me and Snell has frankly.

[00:52:02] Yeah.

[00:52:03] I was trying to think of like what were you thinking

[00:52:05] when you're watching Matt Boyd in that clubhouse like

[00:52:09] it's like a dream come true.

[00:52:11] I was really happy for him.

[00:52:12] And then I got to throw with him or sorry, no,

[00:52:15] no after that season,

[00:52:17] he threw with him and Paxton and so like we talked

[00:52:21] I was like how awesome was that?

[00:52:22] It was really, really cool.

[00:52:23] And he was like even though I was like,

[00:52:25] he was like barely on the roster.

[00:52:27] I was just there for like long, long relief

[00:52:28] just case game blew up and they never did

[00:52:30] the pitchers all through well,

[00:52:31] but he goes even then man,

[00:52:33] it's something special.

[00:52:35] He goes, you know, and I was like, yeah

[00:52:37] it would have been freaking awesome

[00:52:38] because I was at the 18 in a game.

[00:52:40] I had to leave early.

[00:52:41] I was like, I cannot watch a 20 inning.

[00:52:43] I cannot do this right now.

[00:52:45] I just watched 10,000 innings.

[00:52:46] I can't do this.

[00:52:48] And then they got beat the next inning,

[00:52:50] but that's good for him.

[00:52:53] I'm happy for him.

[00:52:54] And I actually knew him from when we were in high school.

[00:52:56] He was a year younger than me

[00:52:57] and I played summer ball with like all of us.

[00:52:59] I used to have Eastside Catholic teammates.

[00:53:01] So I knew of him.

[00:53:03] He just played on another team.

[00:53:04] He would not play with us

[00:53:06] because with me and him

[00:53:07] we would have just destroyed everybody probably.

[00:53:09] But yeah, so yeah, I knew his dad before I knew him

[00:53:13] which was weird, but yeah, I'm happy for him.

[00:53:15] That was pretty awesome.

[00:53:16] Was that day not amazing?

[00:53:18] Like we were there too Trevor.

[00:53:19] Was it not just looking around and like, man.

[00:53:24] The call was great.

[00:53:25] It's like this park was built for.

[00:53:27] Oh, the fan base here is like,

[00:53:31] the atmosphere of that park

[00:53:33] even on the not so great years

[00:53:34] it's just a great place to go see a game

[00:53:37] especially when the weather's nice here

[00:53:38] in June and July.

[00:53:39] Like, there's just nowhere better.

[00:53:44] And people like going to sports here

[00:53:46] like we draw the best for the soccer team too.

[00:53:49] Like we the Seahawks no matter how good they are

[00:53:51] that place is packed.

[00:53:52] So we come out for sports

[00:53:54] and it's always been an awesome time to be here.

[00:53:57] And I've been in the bullpen since we've been coming here

[00:53:59] and so I always get that's an awesome bullpen

[00:54:01] especially for seeing people you know.

[00:54:03] I saw people every inning

[00:54:05] and it was really cool.

[00:54:08] But yeah it was electric.

[00:54:09] Then I got to know Ace

[00:54:12] who gave up the Homer,

[00:54:15] Ace Veto.

[00:54:16] And he is literally like the sweetest guy.

[00:54:18] And he just sits in his locker

[00:54:20] and he watches anime all day.

[00:54:21] And he's just a big, just the nicest person ever

[00:54:24] and just like he couldn't,

[00:54:25] every time we'd watch the Homer

[00:54:27] so we would go over like

[00:54:31] facing Cal Raleigh this year

[00:54:32] and they would show his highlights

[00:54:35] and Ace's Homer

[00:54:36] and he just be like.

[00:54:38] So getting to know him,

[00:54:41] tempered it a little bit

[00:54:42] but they were pretty cool with me being like guys

[00:54:44] I got it, I pulled from the manner so I'm sorry.

[00:54:47] So I have two follow-ups to that.

[00:54:49] Number one, what inning did you leave in

[00:54:51] during that 18 inning game?

[00:54:52] 17th.

[00:54:53] Wow.

[00:54:54] Okay so you-

[00:54:55] Yeah like it was, I couldn't do it.

[00:54:57] I was starving.

[00:54:58] And I'm like,

[00:55:00] and I hadn't had a beer in 10 innings.

[00:55:02] I was just like, I'm so tired and so hungry

[00:55:06] and I am in a baseball game

[00:55:08] and I've been done for three days.

[00:55:10] I have to get out of here.

[00:55:11] So we left and then everyone was just trying to hit homers.

[00:55:14] Like I was getting so frustrated watching Cal

[00:55:17] and Cal Nick just round out to second.

[00:55:20] I'm like stop trying to hit the solo Homer

[00:55:23] just get on pace please.

[00:55:25] But the swings got harder

[00:55:27] and harder and harder as anyway.

[00:55:28] I knew it was gonna be a solo Homer

[00:55:30] and unfortunately the answer was not first.

[00:55:32] You sound a lot like TJ,

[00:55:33] not only TJ not eaten at that game in hours

[00:55:36] because he, I think he hit a little bit before

[00:55:39] but he was like, well this game will be three hours.

[00:55:40] It'll be like four o'clock when it's over.

[00:55:42] I'll be fine.

[00:55:43] He was, I mean not only was it two baseball games

[00:55:45] for the price of one,

[00:55:47] but you're talking like nerves

[00:55:49] and on top of not eating basically all day

[00:55:52] on top of waiting for,

[00:55:54] on top of watching the first playoff game

[00:55:56] in 20 years or whatever.

[00:55:57] So like we didn't leave early

[00:55:59] but I can understand from your perspective

[00:56:00] why you did because that was,

[00:56:04] that like I was drained by the end of it.

[00:56:06] We all were not just from like the excruciating loss

[00:56:08] and trying to watch everybody just swing for the fences

[00:56:11] basically every extra inning like you mentioned

[00:56:13] but like just the fact of how long you have to sit there

[00:56:15] to I was there with my buddies too

[00:56:17] and I left them.

[00:56:18] Like you guys, they're like we're not leaving.

[00:56:21] I'm like, you didn't watch as much baseball as I did

[00:56:25] and I'm not as, I just can't be as invested as you.

[00:56:29] Though I do very much just like the Astros.

[00:56:32] I just wasn't as invested, I'm still playing

[00:56:34] but now I think if it were this year, it would definitely stay.

[00:56:37] Okay.

[00:56:38] I'm a fan now.

[00:56:39] So my second follow up to that is

[00:56:41] with you mentioning how great a place Seattle

[00:56:44] and T-Mobile Park is to watch a game.

[00:56:46] How many times are you using your gold card this year

[00:56:48] to go to T-Mobile Park?

[00:56:49] You're gonna see me on a lot

[00:56:51] of dig in getaway days for sure.

[00:56:53] Okay.

[00:56:54] Like the Thursdays and the Wednesdays

[00:56:56] and maybe some Sundays.

[00:56:58] My wife, my wife Kate has said

[00:57:01] that she is open to Sunday afternoon games

[00:57:04] because it's just a fun,

[00:57:06] it's just more fun when I'm with her.

[00:57:08] Right?

[00:57:09] Like if you're sitting up there with me

[00:57:10] and we're like,

[00:57:11] you're like predicting what guys are gonna throw

[00:57:13] and stuff like that's more entertaining

[00:57:15] than me sitting there by myself

[00:57:17] and just waiting to see if you come in

[00:57:19] and then watching your inning for eight minutes

[00:57:21] and then it being over.

[00:57:24] So yeah, I'll be there.

[00:57:26] I'm trying to find a window that I go to every single time

[00:57:29] and make friends with the ticket people there.

[00:57:32] So like eventually my goal is to like

[00:57:35] give my dad my card or something where they know him

[00:57:37] and like go at it.

[00:57:38] Like that would be,

[00:57:40] that'd be really cool but we'll see if they have it.

[00:57:44] I mean, I've already started to know people there

[00:57:47] from just coming as a visiting player.

[00:57:51] Some of the people at the front desk and stuff so.

[00:57:54] So now that you have that card,

[00:57:56] do you still have any stadiums you need to check off your list?

[00:57:59] Nope.

[00:58:01] I've played in them all.

[00:58:01] Grats.

[00:58:02] Yeah.

[00:58:03] That's good.

[00:58:04] Yeah, I got my last one.

[00:58:06] Texas is my last one.

[00:58:08] That makes sense.

[00:58:09] Okay so for those who don't know,

[00:58:12] this gold card is something you're not only passionate about

[00:58:14] but you were fired up to get.

[00:58:15] Anybody that's watched your YouTube videos

[00:58:17] or your content knows that

[00:58:18] but for those who don't know,

[00:58:19] can you explain to people what a gold card is?

[00:58:22] Yeah, so the Lifetime,

[00:58:24] it's two free tickets to any game,

[00:58:28] any regular season game for the rest of your life

[00:58:30] and it's best available.

[00:58:33] And I believe there's like an allotment with sellouts too

[00:58:36] so like it's gonna be really hard for you not to get a ticket

[00:58:40] because there's like standing room tickets

[00:58:41] and stuff that they'll give and you can get in.

[00:58:45] And so, yeah, you can use it.

[00:58:48] If you wanted to use it 162 times a year.

[00:58:51] So I can't wait to use it.

[00:58:54] You gotta get eight years of service time

[00:58:56] and full pension is 10.

[00:58:59] And in my opinion, the eight year,

[00:59:02] that is much more valuable to me than the pension is

[00:59:07] mostly because I'm not 65 years old yet

[00:59:09] so it hasn't really set in.

[00:59:11] I'm sure I'll be glad that I got it when I get it

[00:59:13] but I can use a gold card now.

[00:59:15] So eight years of service time,

[00:59:17] that's kind of like,

[00:59:18] kind of becoming the new threshold that guys are like,

[00:59:21] if I don't get to 10, I need to get to eight.

[00:59:24] So yeah, I'm really excited about it.

[00:59:26] I think they're getting talked about more and more now.

[00:59:28] I think it's pretty cool.

[00:59:30] So the gold card is one of the perks

[00:59:32] of being a big leaguer.

[00:59:33] One of your most recent YouTube videos

[00:59:35] is you broke down some awesome perks

[00:59:38] that you get for being a Major League Baseball player.

[00:59:41] If it's not that one,

[00:59:42] what's another perk that you think

[00:59:44] is just out of this world of awesome?

[00:59:48] I really,

[00:59:49] I am a guy who hates flying in small seats.

[00:59:53] I just ruin my day and I ruin everyone else's

[00:59:56] that's next to me.

[00:59:57] And so the first class thing was always a big, big positive.

[01:00:01] So whenever they need me to go somewhere at least

[01:00:02] I knew I was gonna get a seat that I could fit in.

[01:00:05] That was great.

[01:00:07] I think the pension's phenomenal.

[01:00:09] Like my dad was a union president for 20 years

[01:00:14] and very, very blue collar.

[01:00:16] So he drilled that into me, how important pensions are.

[01:00:21] So I'm very excited that I have that

[01:00:23] safe in it a little bit.

[01:00:25] And then one of the big ones was just like having food

[01:00:29] around all the time, like high quality food

[01:00:31] where you don't have to worry about it.

[01:00:33] That is something that I'm gonna miss more than anything.

[01:00:35] I cannot have Door Dash be, take that place.

[01:00:40] Like that is just a horrible, horrible idea.

[01:00:42] So yeah, I get to cook now.

[01:00:45] But yeah, having food just like in a room all the time

[01:00:49] was pretty awesome.

[01:00:52] So off of just your YouTube page as a whole

[01:00:56] do you have any inspiration for that page?

[01:00:58] Was there a creator that you watched growing up

[01:01:01] that you tried to model yourself after

[01:01:03] and that you draw inspiration from

[01:01:05] when building your YouTube brand?

[01:01:10] Yeah, that's changed over the time.

[01:01:11] Like, you know, there were some gaming creators

[01:01:15] for my gaming channel that I modeled my highlight videos

[01:01:19] after and then that kind of fell out of Ode No One

[01:01:21] really does that anymore.

[01:01:23] But I'll be honest, just recently

[01:01:25] I've gotten experience a lot more, but like

[01:01:27] I like people doing deep dives on subjects

[01:01:29] because I just like learning random stuff.

[01:01:31] It's great side monitor stuff.

[01:01:33] It's great background noise

[01:01:35] we can just learn about something.

[01:01:37] And I've always been so interested

[01:01:40] in learning new skills and things.

[01:01:41] So the people who will be like, I did,

[01:01:45] I did this, tried to learn this in a month

[01:01:47] and here's how it went.

[01:01:49] Like that is kind of what I've mastered

[01:01:51] in my career, in my life is just like

[01:01:54] learning a new pitch or learning a new

[01:01:56] how to manage a new injury

[01:01:58] or that's just rinse and repeat.

[01:02:00] So like I've always been interested in

[01:02:01] how can I share what I know now?

[01:02:04] How can I, I've learned a lot

[01:02:05] how can I be a funnel and do it in an entertaining way?

[01:02:09] So I started gravitating towards the

[01:02:12] exposition a little bit more

[01:02:14] sitting in front of

[01:02:15] because there's ways to make it fun

[01:02:16] and make it a good time.

[01:02:19] And I also am interested in doing film

[01:02:21] at some point, filmmaking somehow.

[01:02:23] I don't know what that means.

[01:02:24] I don't know if that's sports documentaries

[01:02:26] which I'm not really thinking maybe that

[01:02:29] but like telling those kinds of stories just the

[01:02:31] I don't know what it's gonna look like yet

[01:02:33] but I do know I'm fascinated by film

[01:02:35] and the way that these things put together

[01:02:37] and I've done, I have all the equipment I need.

[01:02:40] So I'm watching a lot of those people now too.

[01:02:42] So like, yeah, people like, you know

[01:02:45] like Markiplier in gaming world

[01:02:49] I just think he did such a great job.

[01:02:51] Like it's nothing felt very high effort for him.

[01:02:54] It looked like he was just always chilling

[01:02:55] and having a good time and like

[01:02:56] thinking he's just joking around

[01:02:57] and have like nothing was overly produced or anything.

[01:03:01] And I liked that a lot.

[01:03:03] You know, Mr. Beast really isn't my thing.

[01:03:06] It's probably because I'm in my 30s.

[01:03:09] A lot, but it's more, I like more of a

[01:03:13] someone sitting in front of a mic

[01:03:14] put together a 15 minute deep dive on some like,

[01:03:17] I don't know, like some, some,

[01:03:19] some TikTok channel or something.

[01:03:21] I don't know if that's what's what's on play.

[01:03:23] So I'm learning a lot of that stuff now

[01:03:24] how to use the camera movement stuff

[01:03:26] to make it interesting.

[01:03:27] That's kind of where I'm at.

[01:03:29] Okay, so segueing off of that

[01:03:31] there was a couple videos you've made

[01:03:32] that I want to touch on some points with

[01:03:34] about the film thing.

[01:03:35] You did something recently of breaking down

[01:03:38] all the nastiest pitches in baseball

[01:03:39] and relating to the Mariners, shocker.

[01:03:42] Matt Brash was on there a few times.

[01:03:44] So the first time you ever saw the Matt Brash slider

[01:03:48] whether it was live or on TV

[01:03:50] or on pitching Ninja on social media,

[01:03:52] like what, where did that happen?

[01:03:54] Where'd you see it for the first time

[01:03:55] and how in the world did you react?

[01:03:57] So I was aware of Matt when he came up

[01:04:00] because like him and Kirby when they both came up

[01:04:03] it was like two guys who throw 98,

[01:04:06] like cool, but more like I'm a reliever

[01:04:09] throwing as hard as I can.

[01:04:10] We got starters just throwing 98 like it's nothing.

[01:04:12] And also I was on the Mets when Kirby came up

[01:04:15] and he's from Long Island.

[01:04:16] So like it was the George Kirby's on the Mariners

[01:04:18] and everyone was just talking about that all the time.

[01:04:21] And they're like, do you know him?

[01:04:22] I'm like, I have never met George.

[01:04:23] What do you mean he's 23.

[01:04:24] I'm, you know, no, I haven't not yet.

[01:04:28] So that's when I heard about them

[01:04:29] and they were the young bucks coming up

[01:04:30] and I pay attention to this stuff.

[01:04:31] I like, I check all the highlights

[01:04:34] of every game every night.

[01:04:34] It just has like, just to see what like guys I know

[01:04:37] they started to know everybody on every team.

[01:04:39] So like, oh how'd he do?

[01:04:40] How'd he do?

[01:04:42] And then halfway through 2022,

[01:04:46] I read a, I did a video on this too,

[01:04:49] read an article called the Art of Pitch Tunnelling

[01:04:52] where I was learning about why my slider

[01:04:53] was not getting swung amised at ever

[01:04:55] because I don't tunnel it.

[01:04:56] So the basically the article proposed

[01:05:01] that there is a range of Velo

[01:05:03] and it's like a bell curve for effectiveness

[01:05:06] for what tunnels based on movement

[01:05:07] and how fast it's going.

[01:05:08] So you want to be in this range

[01:05:10] for speed and difference of movement

[01:05:12] from your fastball for it to look like your fastball.

[01:05:15] So if it's too different, it doesn't,

[01:05:17] it's never tunnels.

[01:05:18] And so people see it all the time.

[01:05:20] They don't even know they see it, but they do.

[01:05:21] And so he changed his grip to throw that slider.

[01:05:24] He learned the sweeper and turned his curve ball

[01:05:28] into that, it's 88 now instead of 80

[01:05:31] as the same movement.

[01:05:32] So I was like, so they use that as a,

[01:05:34] his curve ball was not as good

[01:05:36] and he added eight miles an hour

[01:05:37] with the same movement profile

[01:05:38] and now no one can touch it.

[01:05:40] And so that was the point.

[01:05:41] I was like, oh, I want to do that.

[01:05:42] So I added a harder slider.

[01:05:43] It didn't move as much, but it worked.

[01:05:46] So that was when I was like,

[01:05:47] oh, that guy's got this slider crazy.

[01:05:50] And then I started to see him on the highlights all the time

[01:05:53] and then that's when pitching ninja was just like,

[01:05:54] it was like every other post is Matt Brash

[01:05:56] as it should be in my opinion.

[01:05:59] That thing was just,

[01:05:59] and then the angle in Seattle also makes it

[01:06:02] just look so much better.

[01:06:03] So yeah, that's when I first noticed him.

[01:06:08] What did you think when he made Jose Ramirez fall down?

[01:06:10] Like in a lead hitter like that?

[01:06:12] Yeah.

[01:06:13] He did it twice.

[01:06:14] Jose Ramirez is one of the toughest hitters

[01:06:16] I've ever faced.

[01:06:17] So for him to do that,

[01:06:18] I think I'm struggling about once it was on a backup slider.

[01:06:21] So I don't even, he just doesn't look like that.

[01:06:24] Not only that, when he does, he hits it

[01:06:26] or he fouls it off.

[01:06:27] Like he doesn't fall down.

[01:06:28] He hopped up like, I've never seen Jose hop up like embarrassed.

[01:06:32] Like he was embarrassed.

[01:06:34] And I know it was April 3rd or something, but first of all,

[01:06:39] you have no business throwing the 88-mile slider back foot

[01:06:42] on April 3rd.

[01:06:43] We're all just trying to hit our average below

[01:06:47] as it's freezing, but Matt Brash.

[01:06:49] So yeah, that was incredible.

[01:06:51] It was probably one of the nastiest pitch

[01:06:52] I've ever seen and I've never seen him

[01:06:55] react like that before.

[01:06:57] And then for him to do it again at their place,

[01:06:59] he didn't fall down, but he like stumbled

[01:07:02] and almost got hit in the foot again.

[01:07:04] I think that just tells you

[01:07:06] when a guy like that's swinging, you're pretty good.

[01:07:09] Have you seen how he grips it?

[01:07:10] Could you grip a ball like that?

[01:07:14] So yeah, he has the, it's across the two seam, correct?

[01:07:18] Like, so that is,

[01:07:20] He does like this.

[01:07:21] He doesn't call it a sweeper.

[01:07:22] And yeah, and he spikes it a little bit.

[01:07:24] So he doesn't call it a sweeper,

[01:07:25] but that's a sweeper grip.

[01:07:27] So he does seam shift it.

[01:07:28] And so I threw something similar.

[01:07:31] I just went inside of the horseshoe

[01:07:32] instead of outside in between the two seams,

[01:07:34] but it was the same general grip.

[01:07:36] I can throw mine over 81.

[01:07:38] So I don't know how he does it,

[01:07:41] but that's like very similar to his curve ball grip.

[01:07:43] So this thing is a comfort thing and he just got,

[01:07:45] he just found some extra friction.

[01:07:48] Yeah, these guys with these pitches

[01:07:50] generally have weird grips, super weird grips.

[01:07:54] Brad Hand was actually one of the first guys

[01:07:56] who were like, was doing that

[01:07:58] and people didn't really know

[01:07:59] how he got so much horizontal.

[01:08:00] And he grips his fastball

[01:08:02] and his slider exactly the same.

[01:08:04] Not everyone can do that.

[01:08:05] I don't know how he, I still don't know.

[01:08:07] He just twists it one way that went

[01:08:09] and goes straight through the other.

[01:08:10] That's it.

[01:08:11] It's just stupid.

[01:08:12] And I was like, how?

[01:08:15] And he's like, I don't know.

[01:08:15] I've just been doing it my whole life.

[01:08:17] Oh, I guess I'll give up on that dream.

[01:08:20] Okay, speaking of relievers,

[01:08:22] there's another video you made

[01:08:23] which I thought you had to take

[01:08:24] and like a perspective on something

[01:08:27] that I thought was really interesting.

[01:08:28] It hasn't been brought up a lot.

[01:08:30] And you talked about the idea

[01:08:32] that when relievers are truly down,

[01:08:34] like you know they're unavailable that day,

[01:08:37] that they should be allowed

[01:08:37] to have a full rest day

[01:08:39] in the sense of you do not have to show up to the park.

[01:08:41] You can just stay at home.

[01:08:42] You can relax.

[01:08:43] You don't have to worry about throwing

[01:08:45] or being present.

[01:08:46] Like because you talked about

[01:08:48] you believe it can help physically and mentally

[01:08:51] to have some of those days throughout the year.

[01:08:53] So I guess my question to you with that

[01:08:54] is I really like the idea.

[01:08:56] What do you think it would take

[01:08:57] for either Major League Baseball

[01:08:59] or team specifically to actually start

[01:09:01] to buy in on that idea?

[01:09:03] Yeah, it would just,

[01:09:04] you have to put into how much money

[01:09:06] that'll save you, frankly.

[01:09:11] It comes down to that.

[01:09:12] That's what the bosses want to know

[01:09:13] at the end of the day.

[01:09:15] But you know,

[01:09:16] I'm not even talking about like every down day.

[01:09:19] Just like you should get like two cards.

[01:09:21] You can like one every each half.

[01:09:22] Like those two extra off days

[01:09:24] because there's only 21 off days in the whole season.

[01:09:28] And sometimes those like five or six of them

[01:09:30] are in one month.

[01:09:31] So it's like,

[01:09:33] like some, you go like three, four weeks

[01:09:35] without getting a day off at all.

[01:09:37] And that's crazy for position players.

[01:09:39] I think the same things should apply.

[01:09:41] Like they should get one or two days

[01:09:42] where they can just play the card.

[01:09:44] They can say, hey, bowing out for today.

[01:09:46] I'm just, I'm not sick.

[01:09:49] But like, I just need to not come to the field today

[01:09:51] and you guys got to get through this without me.

[01:09:53] And they, people need to not feel like everything,

[01:09:55] like it's their job every minute of every day.

[01:09:59] I understand the stars,

[01:10:00] they want to play 162 and whatever,

[01:10:02] but especially for relievers,

[01:10:03] like especially for relievers.

[01:10:05] Like we don't do anything when we're down, nothing.

[01:10:09] We just sit there and waste mental energy

[01:10:11] worrying about the game.

[01:10:12] We're worrying about what it would look like

[01:10:14] if we weren't there.

[01:10:15] And that just is so,

[01:10:18] such so outdated to me.

[01:10:19] It's just so tied to,

[01:10:21] it's just,

[01:10:22] it's just eye wash.

[01:10:24] It's just like,

[01:10:25] you're doing something just to do it

[01:10:26] because everyone just struggles to go,

[01:10:28] well that's the way it's always been done.

[01:10:30] I just, that's not a way to live your life

[01:10:32] or operate anything at a high level.

[01:10:35] You can be doing better.

[01:10:36] That's something that constantly pops in your mind.

[01:10:38] So that's what it comes down to.

[01:10:40] I believe that was Gabe Kepler thing he said before,

[01:10:43] before he got,

[01:10:44] and unfortunately like a week later,

[01:10:46] but you know, I don't see why not.

[01:10:49] And there's some teams that kind of do it,

[01:10:50] like not officially,

[01:10:52] but like I'm sure if you went up and like,

[01:10:53] hey Gabe, tomorrow,

[01:10:55] I've done three days in a row.

[01:10:56] Like if I don't come in and we just say I'm sick

[01:10:59] without like having to be a thing,

[01:11:00] and he'd be like, yeah,

[01:11:01] like I guarantee you that happened more than once.

[01:11:05] But yeah, at the same time,

[01:11:07] like I don't want to take three days off in a row either

[01:11:08] because then I just,

[01:11:09] I'm rusty now.

[01:11:11] One day though,

[01:11:12] one day here and there just knowing you have that option,

[01:11:14] I think would make it much less likely

[01:11:15] to even be used as well.

[01:11:16] So just like saying,

[01:11:17] hey, if you just have this space,

[01:11:19] if you need it,

[01:11:19] I think would go a long way for just feeling

[01:11:22] like guys are being taken care of a little more

[01:11:24] even if they don't end up taking more office.

[01:11:27] Do you think there are any other rules

[01:11:29] that should be adapted in

[01:11:31] for the sake of the players

[01:11:33] or for the sake of the fans?

[01:11:40] The only one I would ever say would be,

[01:11:42] it would be for players in the same vein,

[01:11:44] but like,

[01:11:45] we had a guy mentioned that

[01:11:46] who happens to play for their angels

[01:11:48] and he got decimated for it.

[01:11:50] So maybe I should not,

[01:11:51] but if the season were just like a little bit shorter

[01:11:55] or like if there were just a couple less games

[01:11:57] in the same amount of time,

[01:11:58] like you can still,

[01:12:00] we can still do the same thing

[01:12:01] and you can still have teams playing all the time

[01:12:02] but like maybe like four or six more off days a year.

[01:12:06] I think that would go a long way for health,

[01:12:08] for injuries, for all kinds of stuff.

[01:12:09] I think it would make astronaut like crazy benefit.

[01:12:14] But yeah, other than that though,

[01:12:17] in terms of like maybe we get rid of,

[01:12:20] Blackouts aren't really a rule.

[01:12:22] It's just the business and it's so ingrained

[01:12:25] that until things are off TV,

[01:12:27] that will never change.

[01:12:30] And unfortunately now the streaming deals

[01:12:32] are also including Blackouts.

[01:12:33] So it's just a leveraged thing

[01:12:36] that it'll, it'll just never be changed

[01:12:38] because it's not about giving people value.

[01:12:40] It's about getting as much money as possible

[01:12:43] because if I hear it's a business

[01:12:46] at the end of the day one more time,

[01:12:48] I'll lose it.

[01:12:50] But there's certain things you can do just

[01:12:51] because you're like, hey,

[01:12:54] we want you to enjoy this product

[01:12:56] and not have it be a financial angle.

[01:12:58] That would be nice just once in a while.

[01:13:00] So maybe that but I just don't see a,

[01:13:02] I don't see a world where that can be changed

[01:13:04] but maybe the,

[01:13:07] or something, some clever solution

[01:13:10] to the number of games and number of days situation

[01:13:13] maybe change the way travel's done a little bit

[01:13:14] or, you know, I don't know.

[01:13:18] Like we went to the East Coast five times last year.

[01:13:21] It was awful.

[01:13:22] Like that's too many.

[01:13:24] Those trips are really, really hard.

[01:13:25] So that kind of stuff needs to not happen

[01:13:27] but it's not supposed to either

[01:13:29] but we were the A's.

[01:13:29] So no one really cared what we had to do frankly.

[01:13:35] Did you ever see that video of the baseball fan?

[01:13:38] I forget what stadium it was at

[01:13:39] where he got Rob Manfred's attention.

[01:13:41] He was like Rob, Rob as if he was trying to call out to him

[01:13:43] like saying I'm a big fan or something

[01:13:45] and Manfred turns to him.

[01:13:46] He's like, and blackouts already.

[01:13:48] And then he just Manfred just looked totally startled.

[01:13:50] He had no clue how to respond or whatever.

[01:13:51] Did you see that video?

[01:13:53] I didn't see it but I can imagine what it looked like.

[01:13:57] I am curious too about what you mentioned with,

[01:14:00] you know, a certain third baseman

[01:14:01] for the Los Angeles Angels.

[01:14:03] I know you made a video on this talking about how,

[01:14:05] yeah, he got ripped a little bit

[01:14:06] for having this take about a shorter season.

[01:14:09] And he also talked about, okay,

[01:14:10] baseball is not my first love or whatever.

[01:14:12] I have priorities ahead of baseball.

[01:14:15] Do you, like how many other players in the league

[01:14:18] do you feel like probably have that same mindset

[01:14:20] and maybe just aren't outspoken about it?

[01:14:23] There's probably a couple on every team.

[01:14:26] Couple that are like really good

[01:14:27] or like they found out when they played pro ball

[01:14:30] that they didn't like playing pro ball.

[01:14:32] That actually happens a lot.

[01:14:33] Like they love it in college

[01:14:35] because they like the, you know,

[01:14:37] the hanging out with your buddy's style of it.

[01:14:40] And then in the minors it's nice too,

[01:14:42] but like it's a little, it's more of a commitment.

[01:14:44] Like you can't separate yourself from it ever.

[01:14:46] And then they realize they don't like it as much.

[01:14:47] That's pretty common.

[01:14:49] I mean, it's not the majority.

[01:14:50] I think vast majority of guys are like baseball all the time,

[01:14:53] which is great.

[01:14:54] I love it.

[01:14:55] And I was like that too for a lot of my life.

[01:14:59] But yeah, I'd say it's more common than people would think

[01:15:03] because it's just because of the money involved,

[01:15:05] because it's so many people's dream.

[01:15:07] Like all of that stuff you gotta be,

[01:15:09] you gotta take that into account and just know that like

[01:15:11] the context of which people are looking at you

[01:15:13] and thinking that you should be like,

[01:15:16] it's very easy to think I should be more grateful than I am.

[01:15:18] I should not feel this way.

[01:15:20] Cause for some reason you do like that's,

[01:15:23] it's just, and then when you look around

[01:15:24] and like 23 of the 25 guys there don't agree with you.

[01:15:27] Like you're just gonna wear it

[01:15:30] because that's what we say all the time.

[01:15:31] Just wear it.

[01:15:31] Don't like it play better.

[01:15:33] Just bottle it up and white-knuckle it

[01:15:36] is very, very much like an athlete thing.

[01:15:39] And that's very valuable for 85% of situations.

[01:15:42] This is just in the 15% where like

[01:15:43] you're actually hurting yourself.

[01:15:44] You're just not even like, you know what?

[01:15:46] Call it what it is.

[01:15:48] But again, same thing with Anthony.

[01:15:49] Like I said in the video that I knew within five minutes

[01:15:51] of meeting him, I felt about the game

[01:15:53] because he was saying things that I had also

[01:15:55] like pinging around my head like

[01:15:56] I don't really like this part either.

[01:15:58] He's like, I don't like this part

[01:16:00] but he was way more spoken than me

[01:16:01] because he's just a little bit more blunt when he speaks.

[01:16:07] And but I heard it, I was like,

[01:16:09] like I became kind of a fan of his.

[01:16:11] Like I was like, oh someone said it.

[01:16:13] Like I'm thinking that too.

[01:16:14] So it's glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks it.

[01:16:16] Not that we're like, oh I wanna go home right now

[01:16:18] but we're just like yeah maybe I wouldn't

[01:16:20] like I would like to do maybe

[01:16:21] I would be happy doing something else.

[01:16:23] He loves basketball.

[01:16:24] Like he was like dude being in the NBA we sick

[01:16:26] but obviously I can't play

[01:16:28] I'm not gonna be an NBA player.

[01:16:29] So this is what I'm good at

[01:16:31] but yeah sometimes that happens.

[01:16:33] That happens and you just kinda,

[01:16:35] I just, I don't know.

[01:16:36] I was trying to anyone who was like not in a good place

[01:16:40] because even people who love it

[01:16:41] you don't get into places and they're like

[01:16:42] I'm having a miserable time.

[01:16:44] If you feel like you have to bottle everything up

[01:16:46] all the time it's just not gonna be helpful

[01:16:48] and that's something that I think needs to change the game.

[01:16:51] When you see that in the clubhouse

[01:16:52] or is that like something you should go over

[01:16:55] and support is that like something teammates are like,

[01:16:58] oh get a load of this guy or something like that.

[01:17:01] What is the, if you were to guess

[01:17:04] like knowing all the major leagueers you do

[01:17:06] what is generally the reaction to that?

[01:17:10] I'll be honest it doesn't happen.

[01:17:12] Like I didn't even, I had no context.

[01:17:15] I'm like how they gonna react to like

[01:17:16] because I went on the IL anxiety IL

[01:17:18] but they also saw my meltdown.

[01:17:20] Like I had a panic attack at the clubhouse

[01:17:23] where I could not I was just running

[01:17:24] and walking around just like yelling

[01:17:25] in everyone's direction.

[01:17:26] And you know they're used to guys throwing stuff

[01:17:28] when they're not happy but like it just wouldn't end.

[01:17:30] Like it was like 40 minutes long.

[01:17:32] You know you used to have five minutes of it.

[01:17:33] I was like dude he's losing his mind

[01:17:35] and they were very like oh like they got it.

[01:17:37] They understood and I think that like

[01:17:39] a lot of guys eyes open like whoa

[01:17:41] like this is a real thing.

[01:17:43] We were talking about Austin Meadows

[01:17:44] like two days before that.

[01:17:46] I remember saying to Tony Campbell

[01:17:47] I was like yeah man like I'm happy

[01:17:49] that he like said something because

[01:17:53] there's guys who are just like miserable

[01:17:56] and they're just they think they're supposed to be miserable

[01:17:58] and they're not like that's just doesn't matter.

[01:18:00] Like the game is the game it's just not

[01:18:02] maybe it's not for you maybe it's not your thing.

[01:18:04] Like you thought it was and it isn't

[01:18:06] that happens everywhere.

[01:18:07] Why would why would it be any different?

[01:18:08] And I talked about what anxiety feels like

[01:18:10] and they're like we were like in a all in a room

[01:18:12] we went to like I think we were in Baltimore

[01:18:14] there's like nine of us in the room

[01:18:15] just hanging out like having food after the flight

[01:18:17] which I loved about the ace we did this a lot

[01:18:19] and I was just like do you guys ever get anxious

[01:18:22] and they're like yeah I get like

[01:18:23] and we got to the conclusion that like

[01:18:25] oh wow we all we all get anxious.

[01:18:29] I'm like hitters get anxious, pitchers get anxious

[01:18:30] we were explaining like what it's like to be a reliever

[01:18:32] and hear the clock or hear the phone go off all the time

[01:18:35] and Tony was like that's crazy I'm like yeah

[01:18:38] it sucks sometimes it's also really fun sometimes.

[01:18:41] So it's just like one of those things

[01:18:43] like you look at your bat and you're like

[01:18:45] give me that bat I'm ready to get in that box

[01:18:46] and somebody's like anybody else with me

[01:18:49] it's just we're human like if you don't think

[01:18:51] you're ever gonna think that you're an idiot

[01:18:55] of course you're gonna doubt yourself

[01:18:57] because you just it's just what happens

[01:18:59] sometimes you're just not you're not there

[01:19:00] you're not ready to go.

[01:19:01] So I felt like we had a really good

[01:19:03] really good opportunity with the team too

[01:19:05] I think guys came to me a little bit more

[01:19:07] and just wanted to have the conversation about it

[01:19:09] no one was like I'm having the same problem

[01:19:11] but there were guys talking a little bit more openly

[01:19:14] about like when stuff's not going great

[01:19:16] and so we knew what was going on

[01:19:19] and could have a little bit of grace for them

[01:19:21] and low patience and like let them be mad

[01:19:22] if they need to be mad like let them deal with their thing

[01:19:25] and I thought we were pretty close group

[01:19:27] it was pretty great we went through a lot

[01:19:28] we went through a lot there.

[01:19:30] Have you seen the evolution of say managers

[01:19:33] being a little bit more accepting to that

[01:19:36] as they come into a little bit more

[01:19:38] of a player friendly environment

[01:19:39] as a lot of skippers are today

[01:19:41] opposed to even how it was when you debuted?

[01:19:44] Oh 100% 100% not that I don't think that

[01:19:49] like managers I had like Guardi

[01:19:51] and guys I had when I was younger

[01:19:52] or even guys in the early or in the odds

[01:19:54] in 2010s like that they didn't have the capacity to

[01:19:58] it just wasn't like they weren't called to

[01:20:00] it wasn't something that was like in their job description

[01:20:04] right there was people for that

[01:20:05] and I think like okay you know Katze

[01:20:10] is a guy who he was very, very supportive

[01:20:13] and I really appreciated him for that

[01:20:15] like he was one of the best I've had

[01:20:17] Rocko Bell Delies another guy who was like just gets it

[01:20:20] he's gone through his own thing

[01:20:21] he had to retire he had a lot of struggles

[01:20:23] like a lot of and we've talked a lot about him

[01:20:25] and we had really open on conversation

[01:20:27] honest conversations fast within me to each other

[01:20:30] which I really appreciate as well

[01:20:31] I've heard it about Kevin Cash

[01:20:32] it was a gate capillars same way

[01:20:34] you know I've heard a skip Schumacher similar

[01:20:37] like the younger generation

[01:20:39] like they have this kind of emotional challenges

[01:20:41] a little bit so they can see like

[01:20:43] hey you know I know I know what it's like

[01:20:45] when guys aren't struggling on the field

[01:20:47] but I can also tell a little bit

[01:20:48] about some of this or something else

[01:20:49] and you know those doors being open a little bit more

[01:20:52] just to be like hey can we just talk about

[01:20:54] like human stuff real quick

[01:20:56] and then like decide if there's something

[01:20:58] that needs to be done it's gonna affect me on the field

[01:21:01] and it was just really easy to talk to those guys

[01:21:03] so yeah I think that's a good thing

[01:21:06] but that said if this were more normalized

[01:21:07] when those guys were managers

[01:21:09] I think they would be pretty good at it too.

[01:21:12] A couple of fun things that you've talked about

[01:21:14] in your YouTube videos too Trevor

[01:21:16] in terms of some takes that you have

[01:21:17] like one of your videos where you're kind of like

[01:21:20] spilling all the tea you took a bunch of Q&As from fans

[01:21:22] and were answering some questions that people had

[01:21:24] somebody asked you your least favorite place to travel

[01:21:27] like least favorite road trip you say Cleveland

[01:21:30] so I get it and I know your answer was well

[01:21:32] you can only go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

[01:21:34] so many times that like what makes Cleveland

[01:21:37] the least desirable place to go

[01:21:39] honestly like here's an example

[01:21:40] I went to a game in Milwaukee

[01:21:42] that stadium's in the middle of absolutely nowhere

[01:21:44] like I didn't even think the town of Milwaukee

[01:21:45] was that great to begin with

[01:21:46] but the environment as a whole I was like

[01:21:48] man this is not like a good baseball atmosphere

[01:21:51] so I guess I'm curious like what makes Cleveland

[01:21:54] that place over Milwaukee or Cincinnati

[01:21:57] or places like that?

[01:21:58] So okay so it comes down to you gotta remember

[01:22:02] like what my experience, what a player's experience will be

[01:22:05] we also rate the hotel

[01:22:07] so like where's the hotel at

[01:22:09] and how nice of a hotel is it?

[01:22:11] So in the player state the Fister in Milwaukee

[01:22:16] it's supposed to be the Haunted Hotel

[01:22:19] so it's like a unique trip

[01:22:22] like especially if you're not in their division

[01:22:24] like it kind of has its own like it feels special

[01:22:27] even though it's not, it's a good, it's a nice hotel

[01:22:31] but it's not like the nicest

[01:22:32] and then we just go to the field

[01:22:33] and the field there is it's a cool place to play

[01:22:37] and I always like playing there

[01:22:39] because it feels like you're throwing really hard

[01:22:41] frankly so like that's the experience we have

[01:22:43] like how confident do I feel about playing baseball here

[01:22:45] like one of the best places I love playing

[01:22:48] on the road was US Cellular

[01:22:49] US Cellular was one of the most generic places

[01:22:51] on the planet is the most boring stadium

[01:22:54] in the major leagues in my opinion

[01:22:56] the most generic like if you're playing on the show

[01:22:59] and it's a stadium you didn't recognize

[01:23:00] it's probably US Cellular

[01:23:01] so like but I was pitch well there

[01:23:05] and I liked the hotel

[01:23:06] so those are the two places I am

[01:23:09] and so I have positive feelings of leaving

[01:23:12] like leaving on the bus

[01:23:13] I'm like I had a good series again

[01:23:14] like that's just kind of what's associated

[01:23:16] but I'll be honest like it's not like

[01:23:18] the food wasn't that great

[01:23:20] the stadium is not that great

[01:23:22] like it's not, there's nothing really there

[01:23:25] so that's what it comes down to

[01:23:26] and pretty much unanimously

[01:23:28] like if you're in the AL West everyone of Seattle

[01:23:30] like Seattle's number one hotel's great

[01:23:32] it's the in the summer

[01:23:33] the everyone blown away

[01:23:35] but because everyone thinks it rains all the time

[01:23:36] I mean it's raining now and it rains

[01:23:38] it does rain most of the time

[01:23:39] but not when they're playing baseball

[01:23:41] so everyone's blown away when they come here

[01:23:44] and that also enhances it

[01:23:46] makes me more excited to come

[01:23:47] because it's like not what they were expecting

[01:23:49] so like when it comes down to Cincinnati though

[01:23:52] I didn't go to Cincinnati as much as I went to Cleveland

[01:23:54] there's just no one

[01:23:55] there's just no one in like we would leave our hotel

[01:23:58] and like I could walk to the stadium and see nobody

[01:24:01] downtown

[01:24:02] so it just kind of felt very like

[01:24:03] there was no energy

[01:24:05] though the stadium is nice

[01:24:07] I like it

[01:24:08] it's one of my favorite bullpens

[01:24:09] except for the 30 steps that had to walk up

[01:24:11] to get to it

[01:24:12] but it was

[01:24:13] once you're at the stadium it's fine

[01:24:14] it was just

[01:24:15] there's just nothing to do

[01:24:16] and there's no real restaurants either

[01:24:18] nothing like nothing that wasn't like a Capitol Grill

[01:24:20] so it was like a lot of chains

[01:24:22] nothing really special except for

[01:24:25] the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

[01:24:26] so that's why I mentioned that

[01:24:27] I was like put the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

[01:24:28] like I know I've been there four times

[01:24:31] I don't know they're not getting enough new stuff

[01:24:33] there's not enough rock and rollers

[01:24:35] I don't know what to do

[01:24:36] so

[01:24:37] Detroit's similar

[01:24:39] right but we don't stay downtown in Detroit

[01:24:40] we stay in Birmingham

[01:24:41] which is really nice

[01:24:42] there's lots of restaurants

[01:24:43] and the hotel's cool

[01:24:44] it's like a spa

[01:24:45] so it's like

[01:24:46] that's my

[01:24:47] I'm not in Detroit

[01:24:49] but when it comes to like

[01:24:49] if we stayed near America

[01:24:51] it would probably be

[01:24:52] it would probably be higher on the list

[01:24:53] than Cleveland would be

[01:24:54] so I just

[01:24:56] Skyline Chili didn't sell you?

[01:24:59] No somehow the chili on spaghetti

[01:25:01] didn't

[01:25:01] didn't

[01:25:02] graze it too much

[01:25:03] also the

[01:25:04] the stadium's a bang box man

[01:25:06] it's not fun giving up

[01:25:07] 330 foot homers all day

[01:25:10] that are hit 92 miles an hour

[01:25:11] it's not a fun

[01:25:14] not a fun

[01:25:15] not a fun place to be

[01:25:16] I think Louis Guillormé has five homers in his career

[01:25:18] and like three of them are insinutely

[01:25:22] I was gonna say

[01:25:23] that's probably another reason

[01:25:24] Detroit's a little higher on your list

[01:25:26] it's such a picture friendly

[01:25:28] exactly yeah

[01:25:29] and then you add like

[01:25:29] how good is it for me to

[01:25:31] like how good is it for me as a picture

[01:25:34] to pitch there as well

[01:25:35] same thing I love the Coliseum

[01:25:37] but for obvious reasons

[01:25:39] fans don't like it as much

[01:25:40] right

[01:25:41] because their experience is very different than mine

[01:25:43] though there were

[01:25:44] there were

[01:25:45] there were some times where I was like

[01:25:46] okay this isn't worth

[01:25:48] a big stadium

[01:25:49] like this

[01:25:50] this this

[01:25:51] there's too many steps

[01:25:52] I'm walking up downstairs

[01:25:53] way way way too much

[01:25:55] well didn't you mention something

[01:25:57] at one point maybe was on a twitch stream

[01:25:58] about like the chairs in Oakland or something

[01:26:00] like that I don't know

[01:26:01] I was on FAL territory

[01:26:02] no that was on FAL territory

[01:26:03] okay yeah

[01:26:04] and what was it again

[01:26:05] they just broke on you or something

[01:26:07] there was one broken

[01:26:08] well okay

[01:26:08] there was like five broken chairs

[01:26:09] but like there was this one

[01:26:11] it was like a chair out of an office

[01:26:12] it wasn't

[01:26:13] so there was folding chairs

[01:26:14] like the pads on the bottom

[01:26:15] like the green chairs you see mostly

[01:26:17] there was this one red chair

[01:26:19] or this black chair

[01:26:20] it was like one of those fake reclining

[01:26:21] it's like made of all the

[01:26:23] like it's like a wire chair with a black back

[01:26:25] and like you could lean back

[01:26:26] but it's broken

[01:26:27] so it would lean really far

[01:26:29] and you would lose your balance

[01:26:30] and every time it came to the bullpen

[01:26:32] that was only chair left

[01:26:34] so I'd be like

[01:26:35] why is this chair here still

[01:26:36] so I would take it

[01:26:37] and I'd put it in the garbage can

[01:26:39] like just say hey

[01:26:41] throw this chair away

[01:26:42] next night be there again

[01:26:45] only one left

[01:26:46] so I would like

[01:26:47] I would like tell a rookie to get up

[01:26:49] and be like

[01:26:49] and then it would be

[01:26:50] it became a joke to where I'd be like

[01:26:52] it's you today

[01:26:53] and then they would go get a chair from the other

[01:26:55] because I wasn't going to go get a chair

[01:26:56] I'm 10 years older than everyone on this team

[01:26:58] you go get my chair

[01:26:59] so it just became kind of a running joke

[01:27:01] toward they were like

[01:27:02] they would just wait till I got there

[01:27:04] and then someone would just do it

[01:27:06] but it was

[01:27:08] it was just a very Oakland thing

[01:27:10] and for whatever reason

[01:27:11] could not throw the chair away

[01:27:13] it was like Groundhog's day for that chair

[01:27:15] to just kept showing back up

[01:27:16] I don't know how

[01:27:17] I put it inside once

[01:27:18] I took it in to the tunnel

[01:27:21] but it was like

[01:27:22] can we make sure this is throwing

[01:27:23] I sure got you next day

[01:27:26] so I think someone was just messing with me

[01:27:27] at this point but like

[01:27:29] it was fun

[01:27:30] it was funny

[01:27:31] it's funny now

[01:27:32] it wasn't funny every time then though

[01:27:33] because I'm like I'm trying to close the game

[01:27:34] can I have a

[01:27:36] can I have a chair please

[01:27:37] yeah

[01:27:37] I feel like that chair is going to show up

[01:27:38] in your front door soon

[01:27:40] yeah I'm afraid I'm going to look over here

[01:27:41] and she's going to be sitting there

[01:27:42] haha

[01:27:44] last thing from

[01:27:46] go ahead DJ

[01:27:47] okay

[01:27:48] last thing for me Trevor

[01:27:49] so speaking of things you mentioned on FAL territory

[01:27:51] you said you feel like

[01:27:53] when you look at the average age of a baseball viewer

[01:27:55] it's getting a year older

[01:27:57] every single year

[01:27:58] bad trend

[01:27:59] yeah

[01:27:59] how do we reverse that

[01:28:00] how do we get it to go in the opposite direction

[01:28:03] well

[01:28:05] it's

[01:28:07] I think right now

[01:28:08] they're focused a lot on showing the game

[01:28:10] young people

[01:28:12] but they're not

[01:28:15] meeting them at their

[01:28:16] where they are

[01:28:17] to participate

[01:28:18] so

[01:28:20] fantasy like for example

[01:28:22] football is fantasy football

[01:28:24] right

[01:28:25] 18 year olds are playing fantasy football

[01:28:26] because it's not very hard to play

[01:28:28] like it's

[01:28:29] pennies baseball though

[01:28:31] is

[01:28:32] math

[01:28:32] it's it's calculus homework

[01:28:34] and

[01:28:35] it's just not doing

[01:28:36] it doesn't do the same thing

[01:28:37] it's for hardcore players usually

[01:28:39] it's for hardcore fans

[01:28:40] because there's a lot going on

[01:28:42] and it's every day

[01:28:43] and so

[01:28:44] we don't have a lot of casual

[01:28:46] like

[01:28:47] ways to

[01:28:48] casually participate like that

[01:28:50] so

[01:28:50] finding something like that

[01:28:53] that where

[01:28:54] it's not an every day thing

[01:28:55] you don't have to be a fan every day

[01:28:57] but you can still be a big fan

[01:28:58] I think

[01:29:00] young people don't want to invest

[01:29:02] 162 days

[01:29:04] they want to invest

[01:29:05] a day or two a week

[01:29:06] they want to

[01:29:07] they want to be able to keep up with their team enough

[01:29:09] to where they're not lost

[01:29:11] but they don't have to like

[01:29:12] because it's just

[01:29:13] it's attention spans

[01:29:14] or whatever you can call

[01:29:14] but that's just not the way

[01:29:15] we consume things anymore

[01:29:17] we don't watch full episodes of things on TV

[01:29:19] we don't wait for the new episode to drop

[01:29:21] it's just not the way it is

[01:29:23] and so

[01:29:24] that that is

[01:29:25] that's lacking

[01:29:26] and again there's there is a

[01:29:28] that doesn't make the league

[01:29:30] as much money as getting people to

[01:29:32] participate all the time

[01:29:34] so that's what that

[01:29:35] that's why the

[01:29:36] it's kind of a lukewarm

[01:29:38] approach

[01:29:39] because

[01:29:40] there's no front

[01:29:41] front like loaded model either

[01:29:43] where you're like

[01:29:44] okay

[01:29:44] the RSN is going to pay us

[01:29:47] $250 million of the next five years

[01:29:49] and we're gonna get that money no matter what

[01:29:51] no matter how many people are watching

[01:29:52] that is not how the

[01:29:53] media works anymore

[01:29:55] ask any newspaper

[01:29:56] or ask any

[01:29:57] any of these old and dimming media places

[01:29:59] that are struggling to get people to subscribe

[01:30:02] they don't want to pay up front

[01:30:03] people don't want to pay up front

[01:30:05] they want to

[01:30:06] they they want to

[01:30:07] either get things for free

[01:30:08] and they want them quick

[01:30:09] and that's just not the way

[01:30:10] baseball operates so

[01:30:13] they need to find ways to do that

[01:30:14] now it's a hard problem

[01:30:15] solved in my opinion

[01:30:17] but I think there is so many creators out there

[01:30:20] I think there are people

[01:30:21] that are other demographic

[01:30:22] that are

[01:30:24] representing baseball in that like

[01:30:26] funny TikTok YouTubey way

[01:30:29] as like Nicky Cass

[01:30:30] with John Boye

[01:30:31] love Nicky

[01:30:32] I like I love everything does

[01:30:34] he's a great dude

[01:30:35] but he also just found something

[01:30:37] that connected

[01:30:38] but he loves baseball

[01:30:39] John Boye did a lot of that stuff too

[01:30:42] but there's all kinds of guys

[01:30:43] and I just think it's really slow

[01:30:44] like you guys mentioned

[01:30:45] you're able to get on the field

[01:30:47] you know as media

[01:30:50] or as press

[01:30:51] it's hard

[01:30:52] like John Boye

[01:30:53] took John Boye two years to get in the well

[01:30:55] like

[01:30:55] it should not have taken that long

[01:30:57] it's just

[01:30:59] it's you still

[01:31:00] they don't trust the credentials

[01:31:01] they don't trust it yet

[01:31:02] and I just think that

[01:31:03] there's so much talent on YouTube

[01:31:05] and people making their own stuff

[01:31:06] that Dan will be could partner with

[01:31:08] and really

[01:31:09] really

[01:31:11] work with and like

[01:31:12] use and

[01:31:14] and if it from mutually

[01:31:16] but they just

[01:31:17] they just want to have

[01:31:18] they just want to make

[01:31:19] they want more most of the value

[01:31:20] going in their direction

[01:31:21] and that's just not

[01:31:22] that's not how you get

[01:31:24] creators to

[01:31:25] that's just not how you're gonna

[01:31:27] you're gonna do it so

[01:31:28] they're gonna have to loosen that stuff up

[01:31:30] also bam

[01:31:31] isn't helping anything

[01:31:32] let that stuff free

[01:31:34] and let people

[01:31:35] get creative with it

[01:31:36] and make fun stuff

[01:31:37] though they are pretty relaxed on it

[01:31:38] like I take clips and stuff

[01:31:40] and

[01:31:41] again

[01:31:41] change them a little bit

[01:31:42] but like

[01:31:43] they're not like

[01:31:44] copy striking everybody

[01:31:45] but like

[01:31:46] there they are still doing it

[01:31:47] like they could go a long way

[01:31:49] with that too so

[01:31:50] I think there's

[01:31:51] there's a ton of growth in that sector

[01:31:53] if they would just like

[01:31:54] lean into a little bit more

[01:31:56] that's a really good answer

[01:31:58] the last one I've got for you

[01:31:59] and this is a little bit open-ended

[01:32:01] but

[01:32:01] I am genuinely curious

[01:32:03] now that you've entered this media world

[01:32:05] is there

[01:32:06] any long term goals you have

[01:32:08] with

[01:32:09] now being a media personality

[01:32:11] or any events that you really hope to be a part of

[01:32:13] at some point

[01:32:14] in your new journey as a member of the media

[01:32:18] ooh

[01:32:20] so

[01:32:21] cancer the first part

[01:32:22] it is a long term thing for me

[01:32:24] I think that this is kind of

[01:32:27] kind of maybe what I'm

[01:32:29] more of my lane even maybe than playing

[01:32:32] and that's a weird thing to say but like

[01:32:33] it's something that I

[01:32:35] wake up every single morning like

[01:32:36] like

[01:32:37] like

[01:32:38] I'm getting up before my alarm

[01:32:39] to work on stuff

[01:32:40] and I know that's not always gonna be like that

[01:32:42] and it might be the newness of it

[01:32:43] but I also have been making videos for

[01:32:45] I'm about to have my eight year partnership on Twitch

[01:32:48] and I still love doing it so

[01:32:50] I think at that point

[01:32:52] it's pretty clear that I like

[01:32:54] at least the creation side of things

[01:32:55] I like making stuff

[01:32:57] and so

[01:32:58] I think this will be

[01:32:59] I don't know what that's gonna be like

[01:33:01] I think that someday I'm gonna do something

[01:33:02] that really really people like

[01:33:04] and I'm gonna start doing that a lot

[01:33:06] and then before I know it

[01:33:07] I'm gonna be doing that all the time

[01:33:08] I think that's how it's gonna work

[01:33:10] and I'm very much in a like

[01:33:12] discovery phase right now so

[01:33:13] but I do know

[01:33:14] that whether that's like

[01:33:16] doing

[01:33:17] sports media or if it's like the stray hand route

[01:33:20] because I'm interested in all kinds of stuff

[01:33:21] I'm interested in

[01:33:23] not just sports and not just video games

[01:33:25] but like

[01:33:27] science

[01:33:27] technology

[01:33:28] and movies

[01:33:29] I love movies

[01:33:30] like I wanna be a movie creator now

[01:33:32] it's something I'm really enjoying

[01:33:34] I actually just joined our local

[01:33:36] SIF

[01:33:38] called the SIF

[01:33:39] the SIF

[01:33:41] that we have a festival here

[01:33:42] you can get a membership

[01:33:43] where you can go see movies as like

[01:33:44] a critic

[01:33:46] early

[01:33:46] and

[01:33:47] and I

[01:33:49] wanna do that

[01:33:50] so

[01:33:51] but I know it's gonna be

[01:33:52] I'm gonna be sharing what I see

[01:33:53] and fine

[01:33:54] I keep coming back here

[01:33:56] and being in front of cameras so

[01:33:58] YouTube to start

[01:33:59] I'm also interested in how YouTube works

[01:34:00] algorithm and things

[01:34:01] that's really really

[01:34:03] interesting to me

[01:34:04] and then go from there

[01:34:06] but yeah

[01:34:07] I really really like it

[01:34:08] it's

[01:34:09] has not

[01:34:09] waned one bit

[01:34:10] in the last six months

[01:34:12] that's really cool

[01:34:13] I think I can speak for everybody

[01:34:15] when I say people are pretty excited

[01:34:16] to have you in the media

[01:34:18] a fresh voice

[01:34:18] somebody who understands

[01:34:19] the modern game

[01:34:20] somebody who has some personality

[01:34:22] so

[01:34:22] I think everybody's looking forward to see it

[01:34:24] what you bring to the table

[01:34:25] and your new

[01:34:26] career journey as a member of the media

[01:34:28] and

[01:34:29] now that you can be a baseball fan

[01:34:31] I think I can speak for all Mariners fans too

[01:34:32] when I say I think people are looking forward

[01:34:34] to seeing you out at the ballpark this year

[01:34:35] I'll be there

[01:34:36] I'll be there a lot

[01:34:37] so

[01:34:38] don't be surprised

[01:34:39] hey I might actually be

[01:34:40] I

[01:34:41] they've already

[01:34:42] there's been

[01:34:42] I've heard through the grapevine

[01:34:43] that they might be open to

[01:34:45] possibly letting me on the field

[01:34:46] every once in a while

[01:34:47] so maybe I'll be down there

[01:34:48] maybe I'll just surprise the A's one day

[01:34:50] hey

[01:34:52] guys got to answer my questions now

[01:34:53] I love that

[01:34:54] so

[01:34:56] you know who knows

[01:34:56] I don't know

[01:34:56] but I will be around

[01:34:57] you'll see me

[01:34:58] I can't wait for it

[01:34:59] this has been awesome Trevor

[01:35:12] really really fun guy to talk to

[01:35:15] and hopefully we'll see him out in person

[01:35:16] now it's a Mariners game

[01:35:17] because it sounds like

[01:35:18] with more time on his hands

[01:35:19] he can now just be a Mariners family

[01:35:21] he's planning to get out to some games

[01:35:22] so

[01:35:23] hopefully

[01:35:24] he's a new member of the Mariners community

[01:35:25] I'm looking forward to that
