[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it rolling.

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And we welcome you to this episode of the MarineLayer Podcast, part of the Just Baseball Podcast Network.

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Recording here on Thursday morning, August 22nd, Scott Servais was fired earlier this morning.

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_03]: And it just seems Lyle now that Scott is out the door after another horrendous road trip that the Mariners have found another scapegoat for their failures here in 2024.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they have. This episode is going to be all about Scott Servais because that's why we're recording early and releasing the episode early.

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_01]: But let me just take 60 seconds to do this. Season's over. I'm serious when I say that. The season's over.

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I said it last night on Wednesday night in our reaction on social media. This is it.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_01]: One and eight road trip. You've been the second worst offense in the league aside from the White Sox by OPS since June the 18th.

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And now you have gotten your manager fired with a little over a month to play.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope they prove me wrong. I hope somehow this lights a fire under on them, a fire under them.

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm writing them off. They're done. Season's over.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm with you on that.

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_03]: So Scott's the one who gets the finger pointed at him.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_03]: But he's not the reason for all of this.

[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_03]: This was expected. I think we had a feeling this was coming this week if the Dodgers series did not go well.

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Because guess what happens when teams drastically underperform?

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Who always gets the blame pointed at them first?

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Whether or not it's their fault or not.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_03]: It's always the manager.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_03]: If you need an example, literally just go read our comments section for the past two months.

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_03]: And you'll see which direction people's fingers are always pointed no matter who's screwing up and whose issue it is.

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_03]: It's always the manager.

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_03]: And I said this when we released our instant reaction across our social media channels earlier today.

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Usually when a team underperforms the way the Mariners have this season, there's an order of scapegoats to go.

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_03]: And in fact, they were the only two in-season firings this regime has ever made.

[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_03]: It happened this season because of this underperformance.

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_03]: The first thing that goes, Lyle, is the hitting coach.

[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Coach, Brant Brown was fired in the beginning of June.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_03]: There's one.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_03]: He's first on the list.

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Easy to fire the hitting coach.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And that had zero impact, just as everyone expected.

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Zero impact on the Mariners' offense.

[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_03]: So what happens next?

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's always the manager.

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_03]: And Scott Service got fired earlier this morning.

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Is this his fault?

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_03]: No.

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_03]: No, it is not his fault.

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Scott Service, if we're making a list of people to blame for why the Mariners are where they are right now,

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Scott Service is pretty low on the list.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And yet, the Mariners make the decision that they're better off without him.

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That's how it goes.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And looking back on the Brant Brown thing now, it's so stupid.

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_01]: They said they were going to overhaul their whole hitting philosophy this winter.

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_01]: They gave Brant Brown essentially two months of regular season games.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, nope, you're done.

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_01]: It looks now like they half-assed their new hitting philosophy.

[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Because again, you didn't give them any time.

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I know it was going badly, but it clearly did nothing.

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, this is about Scott Service.

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: You feel awful for him.

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Because most of what's gone wrong, like you said, probably isn't his fault.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Was every one of his bullpen decisions perfect?

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not.

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you feel that way.

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd also remind people that most of the decisions he makes and the buttons he pushes are in lockstep with what has been discussed with the front office.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And what they've talked about every day, hours and hours before the game.

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_01]: He's just the one walking out to the mound to take the ball and hand it off to the new guy.

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, maybe he wasn't perfect in your eyes.

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_01]: But there are a lot of people to point blame at, I think, before Scott Service for losing his job.

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Especially firing him now.

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_01]: What's really going to change?

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think much is changing here.

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Dan Wilson's a great dude.

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And I know people really like him in the organization.

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anything's changing here in the next six weeks.

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Because the coaching staff otherwise is still the same.

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_01]: The messaging's going to be similar.

[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: The philosophy is still the same.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And there's only, again, six weeks to go in the season.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, it sucks.

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot to dissect with this.

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_01]: But I do feel for Scott.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Because I think he was put in a very, very tough situation between ownership not really agreeing to spend the necessary money and necessary resources this offseason.

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Then trickling down to the DePoto-Hollander level where you try to work with the budget you have.

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_01]: You acquire players to make you a contender.

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_01]: You acquire the guys that ended up being, in large part, a failure because of the budgets you were already given.

[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Which then trickles down to the Scott Service effect.

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And, oh, well, the play on the field's bad.

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's point the finger at the manager.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Should we just roll through everyone who has more to blame for why Scott Service got fired than Scott Service himself?

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you want to start?

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, God.

[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not fun doing this.

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Because we usually like to be the positive podcast.

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_01]: But the last two weeks, it's been near impossible.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And on this episode, it's near impossible.

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's look right at the 13 position players on this team.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm going to say something harsh.

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Those 13 position players on this team should look right at themselves in the mirror.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Because you lost your manager his job.

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't the pitching staff.

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_01]: You could point some blame to the bullpen.

[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And we know what all this revolves back to, though.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: The inability to have a competent offense.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_01]: The position players on this team lost Scott Service's job.

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Is it not that simple?

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_03]: That's certainly a part of it.

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_03]: You know who also had more to do with...

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you know who else has more to blame on why Scott Service got fired than Scott Service himself?

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Jerry DiPoto.

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Like it or not.

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_03]: When we talk about decision making, lockstep with the front office.

[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Jerry DiPoto is the front office.

[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_03]: So, if they use the rationale to fire Scott Service and say,

[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, we didn't like his decision making enough.

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Is that not an indictment already on the front office itself?

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, Jerry is the one putting the players to where Scott Service is.

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And the lineup Scott Service and Jerry, by the way, have to construct every day.

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_03]: And the front office.

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Construct and sit there and think about all these decisions that Scott is going to make.

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And write out this script.

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_03]: That is a front office thing, too.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Not just Scott Service.

[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_03]: So, with all the roster construction aspects on top of that,

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_03]: it's absolutely feasible that Jerry is more to blame for why Scott Service got fired than Scott Service himself.

[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_03]: And then lastly, and the most important one, is ownership.

[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_03]: What it all boils down to is ownership.

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Because ownership for every Major League Baseball team is in charge of everything.

[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_03]: If there's a failure on the field, if there's a failure off the field,

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_03]: the blame will always go to you because it is your team.

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_03]: 100% of the time.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_03]: No matter if you saw it coming or not,

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_03]: the failures will always come back to you.

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Because you hire the guy who hires the guy who hires the guy who hires the guy.

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Always.

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_03]: It will always 100% be your fault.

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_03]: And that has nothing to do with set payroll budgets in the offseason.

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Or buying a Root Sports, which will probably go under next year.

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't even have to mention that.

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Just the fact of being in charge.

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So how do you think Scott Service sits here and is feeling today?

[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_03]: When looking at all of this, it's like,

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_03]: what am I supposed to do?

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_03]: If you and I were managing the Mariners this year,

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_03]: we also would have been fired.

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_03]: With nothing in our control.

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's probably pissed.

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_01]: What do you expect?

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he's pissed.

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_01]: You remember those comments at the winter meetings?

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: We're doing the best we can with the hand we've been dealt is the best way to put it.

[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure it's what he said.

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: It was something right along those lines.

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Think he's happy with ownership right now?

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_01]: You think he was happy with ownership all season?

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_01]: He might not have outwardly said it to their face or to the media.

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'd bet almost anything he was incredibly frustrated and pissed off with the way ownership

[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_01]: navigated things this offseason.

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Because it put him in an impossible position.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Or, not an impossible position.

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_01]: You still could have won with this group.

[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Although, again, it's still not on him.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: But it put him in a very, very difficult position.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Think of, for all the lineup construction people who think Scott sucks at constructing

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_03]: a lineup, let me frame it to you this way.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_03]: If you haven't listened to Wednesday's episode, I would recommend you go listen to it.

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Where Lyle and I rattle off the OPSs of all nine positions that Scott Skervis writes

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_03]: in the lineup every single day, Lyle.

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_03]: How exactly would you plan on riding in a lineup where every position has a 691 OPS or lower

[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_02]: for the season?

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: How exactly are you supposed to be like, huh, well, I actually think this guy should be

[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_02]: hitting third instead of this guy.

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, well, no.

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_02]: When they all can't hit, what are you supposed to do?

[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, Scott can only do with what the guys that are on his roster are.

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_02]: That's it.

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02]: What are you supposed to do?

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_02]: And if that's half of Scott's job, then it's just unfair, man.

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_01]: It's an unfair biz.

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Scott didn't make the acquisitions.

[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_01]: He has simply handed the talent and puts the lineup together, makes the bullpen decisions.

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to make the manager of the Mariners' job to be less than it is.

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: But in that sense, you don't acquire the talent.

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_01]: You have to manage with the talent you're handed.

[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And Scott Service is probably furious right now.

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_01]: You know how much he'd probably love to have three to four 850-plus OPS bats the way the

[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Dodgers do?

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's out of his control.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have a say in the payroll budget.

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't have a say in the moves that Topoto and Hollander make.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's ridiculous.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I promise you this, people.

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_01]: If Shohei was on this team, Scott Service isn't messing around with the lineup.

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Every day, you would see Shohei either in the 1, 2, or 3 hole.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: You'd probably see Julio there, too.

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: If you had Randy, you'd have Randy there, too.

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_01]: It'd be that simple.

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_01]: If you had those three guys, every day your lineup's in some form, Shohei, Julio, Randy.

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Cal Raleigh's probably hitting fourth.

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_01]: But Scott Service doesn't have that because ownership balked at the money this offseason.

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't even come close.

[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, there's a couple more things I want to hit on with this.

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'll let you pick what we're going to do next.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_03]: What hiring Dan Wilson means and not a member of the current coaching staff or Jerry?

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Which one?

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go Dan Wilson first because that's newer news.

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_01]: So with the Dan Wilson hiring, right?

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Dan Wilson, I can look it up, what his exact role in the organization is.

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But he does have a role in the organization.

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: He, you know, I mean, he's on the broadcast sometimes.

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And he does some of the Mariners social stuff and those interviews with players.

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_01]: But he works with a lot of the catchers throughout the minor league system and sometimes with the major league team.

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And him and Cal Raleigh have a really good relationship.

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_01]: But this, to me, feels like, I mean, I'm sure to everybody it feels like this is probably just an interim hire.

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_01]: They needed somebody to step in and say, hey, just help us out for the next six weeks.

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_01]: In the offseason, you'll go back to your regular role.

[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll find a new manager.

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_01]: But just step in for now.

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm assuming that's what's going on here.

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Again, Dan Wilson has some role with the team, but it's not on the current coaching staff.

[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_03]: But what I think this means in regards to the current coaching staff, it gives me the feeling that they're not exactly high on the rest of these guys that we've projected as potential managers in the future, like a Mani Acta or Christopher Negrone.

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Because if, so like, let's say Christopher Negrone had the endorsement to be the Mariners manager next year, and they already had an idea of that before they fired Scott Service.

[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And they knew, oh, well, we have a manager ready to replace him right now.

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, why didn't they name him that?

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I think this means there's going to be a real push to go outside of this organization for whatever coaching staff comes in next year.

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_03]: In summary, I don't think hiring Dan Wilson's a ringing endorsement of the rest of this Mariners coaching staff.

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Plain and simple.

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I think outside of Pete Woodworth, and you said Trent Blank before we started recording, those two, that's not exactly an endorsement of, hey, we're loving you guys.

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_03]: We want to have you guys around next year as well.

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Because this is Scott Service's staff.

[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Scott Service isn't here anymore.

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So he can't hire the rest of that staff.

[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_03]: That makes me feel there is going to be some significant turnover in that coaching staff, and we're going to see a lot of new faces in that dugout next season.

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I agree with all that.

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I think Pete Woodworth's job is pretty safe unless he got hired away somewhere else.

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think if the Mariners are smart, you keep your pitching group intact.

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Because the one thing you've done well is, well, one, draft and develop, especially pitchers.

[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_01]: But at the major league level, have incredible starting pitching.

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Pete Woodworth has a lot to do with that.

[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you hear guys talk about Pete Woodworth, they love him.

[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So maybe that involves Trent Blank too.

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe those are the two guys that stick around.

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Pete Woodworth, certainly, if they're smart, you keep around.

[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But, yeah, you don't get the sense that this whole coaching staff is going to be back.

[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_01]: It looks like it could be a new group.

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that's obvious to some people.

[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_01]: You say, well, you bring in a new manager.

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to want to hire his own people.

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That may be the case.

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_01]: By this hiring, yeah, it does kind of seem that way.

[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Because I guess if you were really interested in having Negron or Maniac to be the long-term manager, you could promote one of them now, see how they handle the final few weeks of the year, and then you can make a decision at the end of the season.

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But they didn't do that.

[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_01]: They hired somebody that's not on the coaching staff to come step in.

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm on the Mariners staff directory and their front office staff.

[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't see Dan Wilson anywhere on it.

[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So maybe his role isn't listed online.

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_01]: But he does have some role with the organization.

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Like special assistant to the chairman kind of something.

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Something like that.

[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what Ichiro is, but he's on the website.

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Dan Wilson's not, but he has some role.

[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think that's exactly an endorsement of the coaching staff.

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_03]: So let's go up to the front office.

[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's go to Jerry now.

[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_03]: So I think every shield of blame has been now extinguished in front of Jerry DePoto.

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_03]: This right here is it for him.

[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_03]: His manager, his roster, his hitting coaches, his hitting philosophy, his overhauled coaching staff is now all gone for this season.

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_03]: So now Jerry, like the next move the Mariners would make would be him.

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Like this is that's that's going to be it at this point.

[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to here's what I'm going to guess without any knowledge and inside information.

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to guess Jerry DePoto is selling the Mariners front of the Mariners ownership group on what his plan will be for for coaches in a new hitting philosophy and all of this stuff.

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Because the fact that Scott service and Jerry DePoto are tied together at the hip and they they had been for most of their time working their way up through front offices and such.

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_03]: And for this move to come, like Jerry had to sell something to keep his job, I would imagine, even though you and I don't think he should be fired based on some of the very good things he's done for this organization.

[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_03]: The fact that now Scott is gone without Jerry being gone, like a all the protections gone and be he really had to sell something to keep his job at this point.

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I would assume Jerry DePoto is here at least next year, 2025, maybe 2026 as well.

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's the thing on that, though.

[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Would you would you want to keep Jerry around for just one?

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Like if you were letting Jerry keep his job.

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_03]: One year, though, like one year of leeway, that doesn't feel like enough.

[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_03]: So maybe it's two years, but he's going to have to prove something, especially for a new regime, quote unquote.

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_03]: You wouldn't if Jerry DePoto only has one year of leash and Jerry could be fired by this time next year.

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Why don't you fire him now?

[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Because he's done a lot of really good things.

[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_03]: And again, yes, but what like one year to save your job with a completely new coaching staff that for a GM that does not feel as right.

[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I think if you are willing to fire him in a year, you just fire him now.

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so you're saying if they bring in a new GM or a new president of baseball ops, they might want their own coaching staff.

[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And if that happens, then whoever you hire next year, that coaching staff also gets overhauled by the new regime.

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_03]: That could very well be it because Jerry's going to have to hire the new manager currently.

[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_03]: And they would have because Jerry's the president of baseball ops.

[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_03]: They would have a new president of baseball ops if he gets canned next year.

[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_03]: So Jerry stays.

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_03]: It would be at least a couple of years.

[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_03]: It would just be really weird for the Mariners to do that if they kept Jerry.

[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_03]: But it's like, well, you have one year of leash because then what's the point of being like, well, we want a manager here for six years.

[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_03]: What if he's not?

[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, so let's assume it's two years he's given.

[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_01]: That two year timeline.

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: You should have a pretty good sense on where Colt Emerson's at, where Felton Telestine's at, where Lazaro Montez is at.

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_01]: These hitting prospects that have real superstar potential that you're clearly waiting on and hoping they can in some form rejuvenate the offense long term.

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_01]: That shouldn't be there.

[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, they should be doing a lot more in between because you can't wait around for those guys to win.

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But it would give you a pretty good sense of where the team's at after 2026 and where all those prospects are at in terms of the future of the organization.

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Because those guys come up and thrive and the team also gets back to the playoffs.

[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Then Jerry's looking a lot better.

[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_01]: But if those guys' development gets slowed or they come up to the big leagues and they're not succeeding and the team's still not winning, then yeah, things may change.

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Are all those prospects going to be good in two years?

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Good big leaguers?

[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_03]: No.

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Colt Emerson's probably in the big leagues by the end of 2026.

[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Probably sooner than that, to be honest.

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_03]: In the big leagues, but is he good?

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_01]: You'll have a sense, at least some sense of what type of player he is.

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And some guys take longer than others.

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_01]: But if Colt Emerson gets to the big leagues at 21 years old and he's lighting it up, then that's going to be a pretty ringing endorsement of Jerry.

[00:20:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I think.

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I just think it's fascinating how they handle with Jerry.

[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Because ultimately, the stance you and I have had on Jerry has not changed.

[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I think the good he does for this organization and the baseball part of this organization is better than the bads, which is the talent evaluation of acquiring big league hitters on this Mariners roster.

[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_03]: And it seems like, at least right now, that the ownership group is going to give him a second chance.

[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_03]: But if they really are going to only keep him around, even for two years, right?

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_03]: If he's selling them on his current batch of top prospects to do it, I also don't feel like that's long enough.

[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we're getting into the stretch where it's like, okay, Jerry's been here a while and we're waiting around a while for a lot of things.

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_03]: That all, like, as a fan, Lyle, that doesn't sit well with you if you're just being told to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait for things to happen.

[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Right?

[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_01]: For sure.

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you trust the group in charge to hire somebody better?

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And I want everybody.

[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't.

[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And there's your problem.

[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me say this.

[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll leave it at this.

[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Because Jerry DePoto still has his job for now.

[00:22:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And if it was up to me, he'd keep it.

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_01]: For the people out there that want to see a change, be careful what you wish for.

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_01]: That's all I'll say.

[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to leave it at that.

[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Because if it gets to a point where a new front office is coming, we can dive into it more.

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'll leave it at that.

[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_01]: If you really want to see a new front office here and see DePoto and Hollander elsewhere, be careful what you wish for.

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_01]: That's all I'll say.

[00:22:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll leave it at that.

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I have a few last things to say about Jerry.

[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_03]: But before we get to Jerry, let's hear a word from GameTime.

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Guys, I know it's hard to believe in the Mariners right now.

[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_03]: They've been just truly atrocious.

[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_03]: But if you still do want to go out to the ballpark, there's still a few final weekends of summer for you to get out there.

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_03]: And you decide to do that.

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Get out there.

[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, last few things on Jerry DePoto.

[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_03]: So he did an interview yesterday in a piece released by Ken Rosenthal.

[00:24:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Did you like that?

[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Did you like that he did that?

[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Not really, to be honest.

[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_01]: One, I don't really know what he gained out of doing it.

[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, maybe to him it seemed like he was actually trying to take some of the blame and take it off some of the other people on his staff, whether it was Scott Service, Justin Hollander, whoever.

[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_01]: But it didn't feel like the interview was executed all that great.

[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And it kind of feels like he threw Scott Service under the bus.

[00:25:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And that, I feel like, wasn't really fair.

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so it's like, I'm responsible for this roster.

[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_03]: This roster has not been very good.

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, blame, blame, blame.

[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_03]: The whole organization is to blame for this.

[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, but we could definitely consider firing Scott Service.

[00:25:32] [SPEAKER_03]: After all that.

[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Which, that stinks.

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Again, for two guys that have been linked together for quite a while.

[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_03]: That just didn't come off good.

[00:25:41] [SPEAKER_03]: And I think it ultimately comes down to, like, did you really need to do this?

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, for those who didn't read the article from Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic, that's what Jerry said when he was asked about moving on from Service.

[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_01]: He said, everything's on the table right now.

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And then he kind of said a bunch of stuff after that.

[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But that first statement rung very loud in people's ears.

[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, that's why I think a lot of people, us included, weren't that shocked to see Service is firing today.

[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Because it just seemed like writing was on the wall.

[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_01]: With that Jerry interview, with the way the team was playing.

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_01]: There was just a lot that kind of started to signal the fact that this might be it.

[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And, yeah, I didn't love that interview.

[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's the end of the world, but I didn't love it.

[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think it was all that fair to Scott Service.

[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Because, again, he was thrown under the bus for, again, we'll circle back to it.

[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_01]: A situation and a scenario that he doesn't really deserve a ton of blame for.

[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not none.

[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Not a ton.

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.

[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I think people are going to show up to the ballpark this weekend.

[00:26:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, the ballpark is going to be interesting this weekend.

[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if excited to be there is the right word.

[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm very intrigued to see what it's like.

[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure it's going to be chaos media-wise here on Friday.

[00:27:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure Jerry is going to talk.

[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure Dan Wilson is going to talk.

[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there's going to be a ton of stuff going on.

[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there's going to be a ton of media people out there.

[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm also interested to see how fans are going to react.

[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_01]: What type of people are in the park.

[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_01]: If there is cheers.

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_01]: If there's a lot of booing.

[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_01]: If there's just a lot of nothing.

[00:27:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Again, maybe the ballpark only fills up halfway this weekend.

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Because people are starting to feel like the season's over.

[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Which we said at the start of this show.

[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_01]: We think the season's basically over at this point.

[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to be very interested to see what it's like this weekend.

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Friday, specifically.

[00:27:33] [SPEAKER_03]: There might be more people there on Saturday.

[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Since Seahawks are also playing.

[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And that might help.

[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_03]: That could also just take away from it.

[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_03]: People are like, well.

[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_03]: If I'm spending money tonight.

[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be at Lumen.

[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not going to be at T-Mobile.

[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_03]: And I can't blame you.

[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, why?

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Why?

[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's just ultimately boiled down to.

[00:27:52] [SPEAKER_03]: We just watch this team.

[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's just not a playoff team.

[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Sold as a playoff team.

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And they're not.

[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_01]: To paraphrase the words of our friend Big Cat.

[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Not actually our friend.

[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But we love listening to Part of My Take.

[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm starting to think the Mariners aren't very good.

[00:28:08] He does that.

[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_01]: He does that yearly with the Bears.

[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Where he'll hype himself up.

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Telling himself, like, there's a reason to be excited this year.

[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Or Justin Fields is going to be great.

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Or Mitch Trubisky is going to be great.

[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And it'll be like two or three weeks into the season.

[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, you know.

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm starting to think the Bears aren't very good.

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, that's what we're saying right here, right now.

[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:28:29] [SPEAKER_01]: This offense just ain't it.

[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not.

[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And it sucks because you're going to waste an unbelievable rotation.

[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure the group chat's going today.

[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll say that.

[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_01]: We haven't even put that out there yet.

[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Because guess what?

[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_01]: You know who didn't lose Scott Service's job?

[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_01]: The five guys in this rotation.

[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And Scott Service, by the way, was very liked in that clubhouse.

[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_01]: His players really had the trust of his players.

[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_01]: The buy-in from his players.

[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And you could tell everybody really got along.

[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a tightly knit clubhouse.

[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_01]: You think people in that clubhouse are happy today about Scott Service getting fired?

[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I bet the answer is no.

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_01]: And if that rotation's looking around at why did this happen,

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_01]: then they're probably sitting to themselves saying in that group chat,

[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_01]: it's not us.

[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So who's responsible for this?

[00:29:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And you would think there'd be a little guilt as well with the guys you just can't hit.

[00:29:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_03]: That's it.

[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Stinks.

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be weird.

[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be a weird last month.

[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, this was not supposed to be this way.

[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_03]: As Jerry told Ken Rosenthal,

[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_03]: he thought this was the most talented group we've had.

[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if you and I said quite to the point of most talented,

[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_03]: but very good.

[00:29:39] [SPEAKER_03]: We were in that boat.

[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Very good.

[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_03]: We thought this could be the best team that they had.

[00:29:45] [SPEAKER_01]: When they traded for Jorge Polanco and traded for Gregory Santos,

[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_01]: with again, at the time of trading for Polanco,

[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_01]: he had been a top five offensive second baseman in baseball

[00:29:54] [SPEAKER_01]: over a three-year stretch at the time they acquired him.

[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We said,

[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_01]: this is the best offseason they've had in a long time.

[00:29:59] [SPEAKER_01]: They did a lot.

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_01]: They had to get a lot of new bats.

[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_01]: They brought a lot of new people in.

[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_01]: They got another lethal bullpen arm.

[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_01]: We thought this was going to be a roster that was going to be really good

[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_01]: with a rotation that was already good.

[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_01]: We expected Julio to build on his 2023,

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_01]: despite obviously not doing that this year.

[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_01]: We thought there was a lot of reason that this team was going to be good.

[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And is it the most talented group in the DePoto era?

[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you like that 2018 team better when Robbie was still here

[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and Nelly was still here and guys like that, Kyle Seager.

[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But since the rebuild,

[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_01]: it felt like it was going to be the most talented group on paper.

[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_01]: We put a couple social posts about that out in January saying that

[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_01]: we're really excited about this offense.

[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And it all went down the drain.

[00:30:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:30:43] [SPEAKER_03]: They flopped.

[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's unfortunately, Jerry was wrong.

[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_03]: We were wrong.

[00:30:47] [SPEAKER_03]: And they drastically underperformed.

[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Correct.

[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And now here we are in a listless September in year nine of DePoto.

[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Like a listless, hopeless 500 late August Thursday in year nine.

[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm exhausted.

[00:31:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:31:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Same.

[00:31:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Exhausted.

[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm ready for the offseason.

[00:31:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Should not be this way.

[00:31:09] [SPEAKER_03]: This should be the peak of this current Mariners regime.

[00:31:14] [SPEAKER_03]: They should be peaking right now.

[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_03]: But instead, we are right back at square fucking one.

[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_01]: How do we get put into this life?

[00:31:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I guess parents shouldn't have moved.

[00:31:30] [SPEAKER_03]: They should have stayed where they were.

[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Stayed in New York.

[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Stayed in New York?

[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but I guess I can't even say that.

[00:31:36] [SPEAKER_03]: You say the Mets aren't that much better.

[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Better.

[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_01]: They are better.

[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to get worse.

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Our parents grew up Mets fans.

[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Both of our parents.

[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Even though obviously TJ and I didn't know each other until college.

[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Our parents have never known each other.

[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But both grew up in New York and grew up Mets fans.

[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you what about the Mets.

[00:31:54] [SPEAKER_01]: They're far from perfect.

[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_01]: If you go on Frank the Tank social media, you know that.

[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But they have an owner willing to spend to try and win.

[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Who cares about the team?

[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Who really wants to win a title?

[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Multiple titles?

[00:32:05] [SPEAKER_01]: You have a GM who is revered throughout the game.

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_01]: People love David Stearns.

[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_01]: They thought he was an unbelievable hire.

[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And you've got a team that...

[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I know Pete Alonso is getting close to free agency here.

[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_01]: But you've got proven guys on that team.

[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_01]: With some young stars that have come up and really played well.

[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Mark Vientas has been awesome this year.

[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Francisco Alvarez.

[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_01]: That's your catcher of the future.

[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_01]: They're not perfect.

[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Their rotation's far from perfect.

[00:32:29] But man...

[00:32:30] [SPEAKER_01]: It's tough.

[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_01]: It is.

[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_01]: It is.

[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I can't wholeheartedly say how do we get put into this life anymore.

[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Because otherwise we wouldn't have this podcast.

[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_01]: The two of us might not know each other.

[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_01]: All the amazing people we've met through this podcast we wouldn't have met.

[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: But...

[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Puts me through the fucking ringer.

[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_01]: It's unreal.

[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Like...

[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Every year.

[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Every year.

[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the same old story.

[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Aside from 2022.

[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess that's all we've got.

[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Scott.

[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Scott.

[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_01]: You deserve better.

[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Rotation deserves better.

[00:33:04] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people deserve better.

[00:33:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Fans especially.

[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's not happening right now.

[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And I hope...

[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope long term they find some way to make it better.

[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope a lot of people take a long look in the mirror about this offseason.

[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Ownership included.

[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you enjoying watching the on-field product right now?

[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_01]: You like the offense that's out there?

[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_01]: You can fix all of this.

[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_01]: You have the power to fix this.

[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Do something about it.

[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And I would like to think you'd reiterate that same message.

[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Please.

[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Please.

[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Please.

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_01]: We're begging.

[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Literally begging.

[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_01]: All right.

[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that wraps up this edition of the Marine Layer Podcast.
