[00:00:00] Say goodbye to your credit card rewards.
[00:00:02] Greedy corporate megastores, led by Walmart and Target,
[00:00:06] are pushing for law in Congress
[00:00:08] to take away your hard-earned cash back and travel points
[00:00:11] to line their pockets.
[00:00:12] The Durban Martial Credit Card Bill
[00:00:14] would enact harmful credit card routing mandates
[00:00:17] that would end credit card rewards as we know it.
[00:00:20] If you love your credit card rewards,
[00:00:22] tell your lawmakers, hands off, my rewards.
[00:00:25] Tell them to oppose the Durban Martial Credit Card Bill.
[00:00:30] Welcome to episode number 90 of the Marine Layer Podcast.
[00:00:34] It's a mailbag episode.
[00:00:36] We answer some of your guys' questions
[00:00:38] and we'll close out the show with Speak Your Mind.
[00:01:00] Twitter, YouTube Shorts at Marine Layer Podcast.
[00:01:03] Let's get it rolling.
[00:01:04] And we welcome you to this episode of the Marine Layer Podcast,
[00:01:18] part of the JustFaceball Podcast Network.
[00:01:21] Recording here on Wednesday, January 3rd,
[00:01:25] I have a big takeaway from our last episode
[00:01:29] to open up this show, Lyle.
[00:01:31] Reading our comments,
[00:01:33] it was easy to come to this conclusion.
[00:01:35] Apparently, James Paxton is not Blake Snell.
[00:01:39] That's news to me.
[00:01:41] No, he is not Blake Snell.
[00:01:43] James Paxton is not one-two Saiyans.
[00:01:45] But apparently, in the minds of some of our commenters,
[00:01:51] he is.
[00:01:53] Or no, I'm sorry.
[00:01:54] He is the exact opposite.
[00:01:55] In fact, he couldn't be more opposite from Blake Snell
[00:01:58] if you ask people in our comments.
[00:02:00] As a picture, they actually aren't too dissimilar.
[00:02:03] No.
[00:02:04] They're not.
[00:02:06] Just Blake has a bit of a higher upside, I'll say.
[00:02:09] But I'll say that's a big takeaway.
[00:02:10] It's like, obviously, you just signed Blake Snell.
[00:02:14] It's like, yeah.
[00:02:17] Yes.
[00:02:19] You don't have to tell us as two people who have been huge
[00:02:21] Blake Snell proponents all winter.
[00:02:23] It's just that one costs about $200 million bucks.
[00:02:27] I'm sure that's what Scott Boris is pushing for with
[00:02:29] Blake Snell.
[00:02:30] And James Paxton would cost anywhere from $8 to $12 million.
[00:02:34] So a little bit of a difference.
[00:02:36] Again, if it was up to us, we'd say, yep, go sign Blake Snell.
[00:02:39] Unfortunately, we do not get to make free agent decisions.
[00:02:44] And because this is a mailbag episode, we open the forums
[00:02:48] to you guys to send us a bunch of questions.
[00:02:51] We did get some Blake Snell questions.
[00:02:53] And here's our summary answer before we get into the
[00:02:56] questions we actually chose out.
[00:02:58] Lou and I don't think Blake Snell signing with
[00:03:01] the Mariners.
[00:03:01] Unfortunately, if that was going to happen, it would have
[00:03:05] happened already.
[00:03:07] So for the multiple people who asked us if the Mariners are
[00:03:09] still in on Blake Snell, if they're still in on big free
[00:03:12] agents, I'm going to say probably not because it
[00:03:15] would have happened by now.
[00:03:17] Big free agents in general.
[00:03:20] I have no idea.
[00:03:21] Likelihood is no, but Blake Snell specifically.
[00:03:24] It's just hard to believe that's going to happen at
[00:03:26] this point because again, everybody knows he wanted
[00:03:28] to play here.
[00:03:28] Everybody knew it was his number one destination.
[00:03:31] So if that was the case and the Mariners also had similar
[00:03:34] interest, what happened by now?
[00:03:36] Merwin Blake Snell was at the Apple Cup.
[00:03:38] He was sounding the siren.
[00:03:39] He was on the Sunday night or yeah, the Sunday night
[00:03:41] football broadcast on Thanksgiving and Mike Tariqo
[00:03:43] said he wants to play for the Mariners.
[00:03:46] Well, that was about a month and a half ago now.
[00:03:48] So if the Mariners were really that interested, they
[00:03:51] couldn't they could have gotten a deal done weeks
[00:03:53] ago, but we're still sitting here in Blake Snell
[00:03:55] as a free agent.
[00:03:56] So it feels like as the days go by, it's pretty unlikely.
[00:04:00] It would I would be shocked.
[00:04:02] I would be floored if they managed to get a deal done.
[00:04:05] I don't want Blake Snell to sell himself short.
[00:04:08] I don't want to because he has earned this.
[00:04:10] He has hit free agency right after winning a second
[00:04:13] Cy Young and usually that means multi-generational
[00:04:16] wealth for said player.
[00:04:18] I don't want Blake Snell to forego multi-generational
[00:04:21] wealth to come to Seattle as cool as that would be.
[00:04:24] I don't think that'd be a smart business decision on
[00:04:26] his part and I think he understands that as well.
[00:04:28] Otherwise, he would have just come here is like, yep,
[00:04:30] I'm willing to play for the Mariners for $5 million
[00:04:33] a year like Blake.
[00:04:34] What are you doing?
[00:04:34] Dude, what are you doing?
[00:04:36] Instead, he's going to sign for the market rate somewhere
[00:04:38] else at a team that wants to spend more money than
[00:04:41] the Mariners has have spent.
[00:04:44] Do you have anything else?
[00:04:45] Just that we got a lot of questions about this and
[00:04:47] does and rightfully so.
[00:04:50] Mariners fans want to see Blake Snell in Seattle.
[00:04:52] Like we said, we want to see Blake Snell in Seattle.
[00:04:54] So as a result, we're still getting a lot of questions
[00:04:56] about it because he's a free agent.
[00:04:57] But instead of spending a whole 510 minutes on one
[00:05:01] of those questions, we figured we'd just address it right
[00:05:03] at the beginning.
[00:05:04] Again, it was up to TJ and I he'd be here, but it just
[00:05:07] feels unlikely at this point.
[00:05:09] Let's get to our first question of this mail bag
[00:05:11] episode.
[00:05:12] This is a fun one to start off and we're digging deep
[00:05:16] into the bag.
[00:05:17] So this is from Spencer Macavoy, I think not like
[00:05:22] Tanner Macavoy, but MCAVY.
[00:05:27] That is how Tanner Macavoy spelled his last name.
[00:05:29] Oh, was?
[00:05:30] Yeah.
[00:05:30] What?
[00:05:30] Wow.
[00:05:31] That was way too long ago for me to forget.
[00:05:33] Try to forget those those times.
[00:05:35] Anyways, Spencer asked how excited should the Mariners
[00:05:41] fan base be for presumptive class of 2024 International
[00:05:47] sorry for the 2024 International Class Siney
[00:05:51] Dewelle Joseph Scouts have compared him to Byron Buxton
[00:05:55] which really caught my attention while I'll give you
[00:05:58] the first crack at this.
[00:06:00] So the Byron Buxton thing is what the report says on
[00:06:03] MLB pipeline in terms of who you could compare him to
[00:06:06] as a player just in terms of body type and potential hit
[00:06:08] tool, which again would be amazing except that sometimes
[00:06:14] these projections are just best case scenario projections
[00:06:17] for each guy.
[00:06:18] Felene Celestine who we spent a whole episode on last year
[00:06:21] who is the best international prospect the Mariners have
[00:06:24] ever signed in terms of pedigree was compared to guys like
[00:06:28] Francisco Lindor.
[00:06:29] So that would be great except that again, that's best
[00:06:34] case scenario now Dewelle Joseph is the number seven
[00:06:37] prospect in this International Class that's higher than
[00:06:39] Julio was ranked when he signed that's higher than
[00:06:41] Noel V Marte was ranked when he signed.
[00:06:43] So he is a very sought after guy and this is a big get
[00:06:46] for the Mariners.
[00:06:46] It's not as big as Celestine, but it's big.
[00:06:49] So we talked to Joe Doyle about this because again,
[00:06:52] outside of reading just the reports that are out in
[00:06:55] the public.
[00:06:55] That's about all you can do for a 16 year old signee
[00:06:58] out of the Dominican Republic.
[00:06:59] So who knows better than our friend Joe Doyle friend
[00:07:02] of the pod.
[00:07:02] We asked him, Hey, what do you know about Dewelle Joseph?
[00:07:07] We're doing a mailbag episode.
[00:07:08] Do you have a little bit of a synopsis for us?
[00:07:10] And obviously he's been tweeting out a bunch about
[00:07:13] Joseph over the past few months.
[00:07:15] He's got some threads on him.
[00:07:16] If you want more detail, you can go check that out.
[00:07:18] Also Joe is doing a full podcast this week about
[00:07:23] Mariners International signees and this current class,
[00:07:26] which if you want to go check that out from Joe,
[00:07:28] he does a podcast called the over slot podcast.
[00:07:31] So go check that out because he's going to give a very
[00:07:32] very in depth report on Dewelle Joseph.
[00:07:34] But what we can tell you here.
[00:07:37] He's a very good athlete.
[00:07:39] He has a chance to stick at shortstop and if he
[00:07:41] does not stick at short, he has the ability to play
[00:07:44] center field and play the outfield.
[00:07:45] So one way or another, his athleticism will be used
[00:07:48] to the Mariners benefit.
[00:07:50] And in terms of the hit tool, yes, he has power.
[00:07:52] There is, there is real projected power in that
[00:07:55] bad of Joseph.
[00:07:56] Now it's going to take a little bit of time to see
[00:07:59] what type of power that really is and what the
[00:08:01] hit tool in total really is.
[00:08:03] But this is an exciting prospect.
[00:08:04] Good athlete could play the infield, could play
[00:08:06] the outfield and has the potential to hit for
[00:08:09] some real power.
[00:08:10] That is Dewelle Joseph.
[00:08:12] So what Joe told us specifically, you know, he's
[00:08:15] mentioning Power Speed Guy projects.
[00:08:17] He has him projected right there in the 7 to 10
[00:08:20] range where you said he's ranked number seven on
[00:08:21] MLB pipeline and that's where Joe has him as
[00:08:24] well in that range.
[00:08:27] And he says most scouting directors will put him
[00:08:30] around there.
[00:08:31] Time will tell on the hit tool if he outgrows
[00:08:34] shortstop, he goes to center field.
[00:08:36] Those are words directly from Joe Dewelle and
[00:08:39] he also again had a couple of tweets about him.
[00:08:40] You can go dig on Joe's Twitter timeline, but did
[00:08:44] mention, you know, one of the top top five to eight
[00:08:46] prospects in this 2024 class, 70 grade runner above
[00:08:51] average power.
[00:08:52] That speed is really picked up as he's grown
[00:08:54] out Power Speed Guy.
[00:08:56] He could move to center field if he outgrows
[00:08:59] shortstop and his projections right now at 16-62,
[00:09:03] 175, he's got a 55 hit tool, 50 power, 55 run,
[00:09:08] 50 arm, 55 field.
[00:09:10] So that's a bunch of pluses across the board there.
[00:09:14] Hit power and speed as well as playing good defense
[00:09:18] in the field.
[00:09:20] That's an exciting player.
[00:09:21] I mean, look at, listen to all those grades you
[00:09:23] just rattled off.
[00:09:24] Those are really good grades.
[00:09:25] And again, he's 16.
[00:09:28] There's a lot of time between now and when he'd
[00:09:29] eventually hit the big league.
[00:09:30] So we'll see how he develops over time, but
[00:09:33] this is an exciting signing.
[00:09:34] And you know what?
[00:09:35] The reason TJ and I said, you know what?
[00:09:37] Let's ask Joe about this is because him and I, TJ
[00:09:41] and I could sit and read you what pipeline has on
[00:09:43] him in the very little bit on him that sprinkled
[00:09:45] out there.
[00:09:46] But it's two people who obviously have never
[00:09:48] seen the 16 year old play a game of baseball
[00:09:50] because none of his games down in the DR
[00:09:52] have really been broadcasted out to the public.
[00:09:54] He hasn't played stateside yet.
[00:09:56] We're not going to try and pretend we know
[00:09:57] everything about Dewelle Joseph other than
[00:09:59] the Mariners signed a very highly ranked
[00:10:01] international prospect who has some upside.
[00:10:03] So he said, you know what?
[00:10:04] Joe knows this stuff really well.
[00:10:05] Let's ask him.
[00:10:06] So her Joe Doyle, friend of the pod.
[00:10:09] We're going to see how he pans out over time,
[00:10:11] but there's reason to be excited here.
[00:10:13] And on that episode of the overslot that Joe
[00:10:16] by the time this this episode comes out, his
[00:10:18] episode will be released.
[00:10:20] He's not only going to talk about Dewelle Joseph,
[00:10:22] he's going to have nine other names in that
[00:10:25] Mariners international class that he wants
[00:10:28] to highlight.
[00:10:28] So if you want to learn a little bit more
[00:10:31] beyond Dewelle Joseph as well, Joe insists
[00:10:34] that you come listen to his podcast because
[00:10:36] he really thinks that'll be valuable information
[00:10:38] for some people that want to know a little
[00:10:41] bit more about that.
[00:10:42] Joe knows his stuff.
[00:10:43] I mean, he really does know his stuff.
[00:10:44] That's why we lean on him.
[00:10:46] We had him on last year to spend a whole
[00:10:48] episode basically talking about Felne
[00:10:49] and Celestine with us.
[00:10:50] So he really, yeah.
[00:10:52] And that's about exactly a year ago.
[00:10:54] Yeah.
[00:10:55] And that's somebody who again much like Joseph
[00:10:58] when he signed Celestine's games were not
[00:11:00] being broadcasted out there anywhere.
[00:11:02] So there's not many people that knew about
[00:11:04] Celestine better than Joe did, for example.
[00:11:06] So yeah, we're really gassing him up here
[00:11:08] and for good reason because he really knows his stuff.
[00:11:11] I will say credit to Jerry by the way, because
[00:11:13] when a lot of this Mariners core that everybody
[00:11:16] was talking about at the re during the rebuild
[00:11:18] got up together, Julio, Kirby, Cal, Logan,
[00:11:21] Calmic, etc.
[00:11:24] They have refilled that farm system very
[00:11:27] well like you look at guys not even just
[00:11:30] that are starting to get toward the brink
[00:11:31] of the majors again, Harry Ford will probably
[00:11:33] be in double A this year.
[00:11:34] Tyler Locklear is in double A.
[00:11:35] You can sprinkle in some others.
[00:11:37] But the back end of that farms are not the back
[00:11:40] end, but the younger end of that farm system
[00:11:42] loaded all of a sudden you got the three
[00:11:44] first round picks out of high school
[00:11:45] from this past year and 23.
[00:11:47] You got Celestine.
[00:11:48] You've got to well Joseph.
[00:11:49] You got Lazaro Montez.
[00:11:51] There's some you've got if you want to count
[00:11:53] Gabby Gonzalez and Michael Arroyo on the
[00:11:55] younger end like there is exciting guys down
[00:11:57] there.
[00:11:57] So the Mariners farm system isn't going away
[00:12:00] anytime soon.
[00:12:01] No, it's not.
[00:12:02] And it's going to be even better after this
[00:12:04] year once a full year of those guys at the
[00:12:06] lower level of the minors, they actually
[00:12:08] play a full season of minor league baseball.
[00:12:10] And I think people are going to be really
[00:12:11] excited Celestine by the way.
[00:12:14] We did get a question about this as well
[00:12:16] wondering what happened to him.
[00:12:18] Well, he was hurt most of last year.
[00:12:19] That's why I didn't play and he will.
[00:12:21] He is expected to be healthy this season
[00:12:23] and then you would expect him to start
[00:12:25] shooting up prospect boards and people
[00:12:27] start getting really excited about about
[00:12:30] that young man right there.
[00:12:32] And he did get back on the field down in the
[00:12:34] D.R. over the fall.
[00:12:35] So he did get back into some act or it was
[00:12:38] either the D.R.
[00:12:39] Arizona.
[00:12:39] He got back on the field in the fall.
[00:12:40] Yeah, it was a very small sample size, but
[00:12:43] he did get back.
[00:12:44] You're right.
[00:12:44] He did get back and play.
[00:12:47] Second question here.
[00:12:48] This is from Ian Huben.
[00:12:49] I hope I said the last name right H O U
[00:12:51] B E N.
[00:12:52] He said if the M's miss the playoffs in a
[00:12:53] similar outcome to last year, does anyone
[00:12:56] get fired?
[00:12:56] Scott, Jerry, Justin, etc.
[00:13:00] I will throw this one to you first.
[00:13:02] This comes down to what the Mariners goal is.
[00:13:07] I'll say what the goal is and on top of that
[00:13:10] what their financial situation is because
[00:13:12] if the Mariners are satisfied with he says
[00:13:16] similar outcome to this season, so I'll say
[00:13:18] okay, so let's make check all the same boxes.
[00:13:21] The Mariners win 88 games check.
[00:13:23] They draw 2.7 million fans check and they
[00:13:28] have they have some exciting months.
[00:13:30] I can't say they can repeat the All-Star game
[00:13:32] because they won't because they don't get to
[00:13:34] do that every year, but if they have that and
[00:13:37] Jerry and company pull that off again this
[00:13:39] season.
[00:13:40] No, I don't think they're getting fired.
[00:13:42] Some people might think that Jerry and Scott
[00:13:44] deserve to get fired, but if the Mariners are
[00:13:48] who we think they are and I think we've seen
[00:13:51] them have quite a bit of patience with Jerry
[00:13:53] and Scott over the course of this quote
[00:13:56] unquote rebuild, then I think it's just kind of
[00:13:59] hard to see right?
[00:14:01] I think it is hard to see like let's remember Scott
[00:14:05] and Jerry are have completed eight years and
[00:14:07] made one postseason and their seats aren't even
[00:14:09] hot.
[00:14:11] They've gotten flack.
[00:14:12] They've gotten pressure but hot seat.
[00:14:15] Mmm.
[00:14:16] You can argue some people might think Jerry
[00:14:18] was on the hot seat after this season.
[00:14:20] He certainly shit his pants in this postgame
[00:14:23] press is postseason press conference, but
[00:14:26] besides that like hot seat.
[00:14:28] Not really.
[00:14:30] I would be I'd be kind of surprised.
[00:14:32] I would be I would be surprised, but then again
[00:14:37] this is professional sports.
[00:14:39] These things do happen and they do happen
[00:14:41] after disappointing seasons.
[00:14:43] So that's my take on this.
[00:14:46] I just don't think it's going to happen.
[00:14:47] If this team were to win 65 games this year,
[00:14:49] then maybe we'd be having a different conversation
[00:14:51] and by this year I mean upcoming in 2024.
[00:14:54] But if it's a similar result that they're around the
[00:14:56] 85 to 88 win total.
[00:14:58] I just don't see it.
[00:14:59] I think the ownership group loves that the farm is
[00:15:02] always good because they can sell that a lot.
[00:15:04] I think they love the fact that they now have some
[00:15:06] exciting young stars on the team that sells
[00:15:09] that gets people to the ballpark.
[00:15:11] I think they like the fact that they are in the
[00:15:12] race every year, which keeps people in tune.
[00:15:15] Even if there's a lot of people out there
[00:15:17] that expect more want more and I'm not and
[00:15:20] again, I think we have all said that Mariners fans
[00:15:23] deserve a lot more than what they're getting right now.
[00:15:25] In and I'm not talking about in terms of management.
[00:15:27] I just I just mean in terms of winning an investment
[00:15:29] from ownership.
[00:15:30] I think fans deserve a lot more both in free agency,
[00:15:33] both the commitment from the ownership group,
[00:15:35] etc.
[00:15:35] But they're the ones making the decisions.
[00:15:38] First off, I think Scott very, very much has the
[00:15:41] respect and trust of his players,
[00:15:42] which I think goes a long way and Jerry DePoto again.
[00:15:46] I'm not going to say he's perfect.
[00:15:47] I don't think either of us will but he is a
[00:15:49] better GM than the last two guys and I know
[00:15:51] the bar is not high but you look at what the Bayesian
[00:15:53] Zarensik once upon a time did and now you get to
[00:15:56] DePoto who in spite of not having the best track record
[00:16:00] with bringing in position players or success in
[00:16:02] free agency again,
[00:16:03] a lot of that stems from ownership.
[00:16:05] There's a lot he's done well.
[00:16:06] He's drafted very well.
[00:16:07] He's developed very well.
[00:16:08] The farm system is good.
[00:16:10] He has guys with club controls.
[00:16:11] So if that's what ownership likes and they more are
[00:16:15] in love with the idea of well for a lower budget
[00:16:19] and a lower payroll,
[00:16:20] we can just stay within contention and we know Jerry
[00:16:23] and Scott do that.
[00:16:24] Then it's it's hard to believe they would really make
[00:16:28] a change because here's the thing if they make a
[00:16:29] change you're they're not going to bring in somebody
[00:16:32] who's going to push back on payroll a lot because
[00:16:35] if they did that,
[00:16:35] they wouldn't get the job because if you had a GM
[00:16:38] or a president of baseball ops that was in charge
[00:16:40] and said we need a top eight payroll every year.
[00:16:44] This ownership group would say next they'd show
[00:16:47] them the door.
[00:16:48] So I think for a lot of reasons it may stay the same.
[00:16:54] If they felt like they wanted someone who could better
[00:16:58] manage a low payroll that I might see.
[00:17:02] It's not even the lack of it would be a lack of winning,
[00:17:06] but if they're like,
[00:17:06] okay,
[00:17:07] so we see Eric Neander with the raise and a 70
[00:17:10] million dollar payroll regularly win 90 plus games.
[00:17:15] Well, the Mariners have cracked 90 wins now twice
[00:17:19] under Jerry DePoto.
[00:17:20] What if what if we want someone who can go out there
[00:17:23] and win 90 games with that?
[00:17:24] So that's in term not winning enough in theory
[00:17:29] and we want someone that's better on a cheap budget.
[00:17:32] But that's a that's a big hypothetical because let's
[00:17:35] remember firing a front office is not free.
[00:17:39] You know how much buyout money they have to spend
[00:17:42] on that that's expensive.
[00:17:44] Let's remember the Mariners now own 100% of root sports
[00:17:48] as of three days ago.
[00:17:51] 100% of root sports is all on them.
[00:17:54] So hiring a new front office it's not free and they got
[00:17:58] a lot more things to spend money on right now.
[00:18:01] And as long as they're winning 85 to 87 games
[00:18:03] and making money and bringing fans into the ballpark,
[00:18:08] then just kind of hard to see.
[00:18:11] It's hard to see, but I think that's a good question.
[00:18:14] It's something to think about.
[00:18:15] I think people were a little more certain after Jerry's
[00:18:17] press conference that it was absolute and I here on this
[00:18:20] podcast said that I did.
[00:18:23] I said if they did not make the playoffs again in 2024
[00:18:28] then changes would be made.
[00:18:30] I said that but looking at the financial situation
[00:18:34] they're in even if even if you or I think a change
[00:18:37] should be made like what would the incentive be of
[00:18:40] the of the front office if they get what they want.
[00:18:43] There would be none.
[00:18:44] There wouldn't be simple of the ownership group.
[00:18:47] You mean right?
[00:18:47] Yeah, yeah of the ownership group like as long as they
[00:18:51] get what they want out of their business investment
[00:18:53] then what's the point?
[00:18:56] Yeah, it's true.
[00:18:58] It's just yeah again.
[00:18:59] It's hard for us to say I think I think that about
[00:19:02] covers it and I think just watching how ownership has
[00:19:05] maneuvered over the last handful of seasons that
[00:19:08] it just feels like the route they're on and again some
[00:19:10] people may be very frustrated with that some people may
[00:19:12] be very happy with that just depends this fan base is a
[00:19:15] lot different with a lot of different opinions but it
[00:19:17] just seems like from what we've gauged that's where
[00:19:21] we stand on it.
[00:19:22] Say goodbye to your credit card rewards greedy corporate
[00:19:26] mega stores led by Walmart and Target are pushing for
[00:19:29] long Congress to take away your hard earned cash back
[00:19:33] and travel points to line their pockets.
[00:19:35] The Durbin Marshall credit card bill would enact harmful
[00:19:38] credit card rowdy mandates that would end credit card
[00:19:41] rewards as we know it.
[00:19:42] If you love your credit card rewards tell your lawmakers
[00:19:46] hands off my rewards tell them to oppose the Durbin
[00:19:50] Marshall credit card bill.
[00:19:53] Let's get to our next question.
[00:19:56] This comes from our YouTube comments and friendly
[00:19:59] neighborhood Gentile.
[00:20:01] What are your top three favorite non-mariners?
[00:20:06] This is a more fun one.
[00:20:07] I like this question.
[00:20:08] Okay, my three favorite non-mariners.
[00:20:11] I have to think long and hard about this.
[00:20:13] No, I didn't really you want to guess one anybody
[00:20:16] listening to this podcast it shouldn't be that hard to
[00:20:18] guess the first one.
[00:20:21] Is he in Atlanta brave?
[00:20:23] Oh, he might be in Atlanta brave pretty new Atlanta
[00:20:26] brave.
[00:20:27] I guess in the last few weeks in Atlanta brave.
[00:20:29] You must have been happy seeing this question like
[00:20:32] well this is easy now because he falls right in
[00:20:34] the category.
[00:20:36] Even after he's gone I can still find excuses to talk
[00:20:39] about Jared Kelmings.
[00:20:40] So yes, he is on my list of favorite non-mariners and
[00:20:44] I will be doing nothing but rooting for him to thrive
[00:20:47] and make an all-star game with flying colors in
[00:20:50] 2024 and beyond that.
[00:20:51] So that's number one.
[00:20:54] Manny Machado is number two.
[00:20:55] I know it's a little dark behind me and I don't
[00:20:57] know if anybody's ever noticed but if you're
[00:20:58] watching on YouTube I'm kind of tilt into my
[00:21:01] right right now.
[00:21:02] I've had a man named Machado fat head sitting in
[00:21:04] my room since I was 14 years old 15 years old.
[00:21:07] I was a fan of this guy from the second he came up
[00:21:09] even back when he was in the minor.
[00:21:11] He was he was one of the first if not the first
[00:21:14] prospect I ever really got obsessed with and I
[00:21:17] followed his journey ever since I was in middle
[00:21:18] school.
[00:21:19] So I have always been a massive fan of his.
[00:21:22] I know some people if you have ever noticed
[00:21:23] it would probably be like well why is there
[00:21:25] why is there an Orioles why is there Orioles
[00:21:28] memorabilia behind you for a Mariners podcast.
[00:21:30] Well 12 years ago or whatever it was I didn't
[00:21:32] really think oh I'm going to be sitting here
[00:21:34] doing a Mariners podcast and let me think about
[00:21:37] what my background decorations would be.
[00:21:38] So that's number two.
[00:21:41] Ellie Daylacruz.
[00:21:42] Let me say that again.
[00:21:43] Ellie Daylacruz is number three and I've also
[00:21:45] talked about this on the show in 2022.
[00:21:47] I was broadcasting games for the Dayton
[00:21:49] Dragons.
[00:21:49] I got to see him in person and like I have
[00:21:51] said that is the best non major leaguer I
[00:21:53] have ever seen live on a baseball field
[00:21:55] and when we got to see Spencer Torcal
[00:21:57] sent a day as you for three years but
[00:21:59] Ellie is pretty unbelievable and he had his
[00:22:00] Hills and valleys as a rookie but you're still
[00:22:02] talking about a guy that could be a 40 40
[00:22:04] shortstop.
[00:22:05] So those are my three.
[00:22:08] I like your list.
[00:22:09] I can't say I'm surprised with any of them.
[00:22:10] I think you did a good job.
[00:22:12] Let's get to my list.
[00:22:13] So I have three maybe not so obvious ones
[00:22:16] to you.
[00:22:16] I told him yesterday so I can't make you
[00:22:19] guess them.
[00:22:19] So first up is Bryce Harper like Bryce
[00:22:23] Harper for he gets so much hate.
[00:22:26] He gets way too much hate for literally
[00:22:29] just caring.
[00:22:31] That's what he does.
[00:22:31] He cares.
[00:22:32] He cares about winning.
[00:22:34] He cares about being great.
[00:22:35] This dude has been under a microscope since
[00:22:38] he was 15 years old.
[00:22:41] He's on the cover of sports illustrated.
[00:22:43] He said cameras in his face.
[00:22:45] He said news written about him.
[00:22:46] He got a sports center feature for hitting
[00:22:48] a ball 570 feet with a metal bat.
[00:22:51] It has been all Bryce Harper for the
[00:22:53] last 15 years of his life.
[00:22:56] It's been longer than that but longer
[00:22:58] than 15 years of his life.
[00:22:59] I don't know the exact number,
[00:23:01] but it has been a while that Bryce
[00:23:03] Harper has been in the spotlight and he
[00:23:06] has handled it better than just about
[00:23:09] anybody could LeBron is the poster child
[00:23:12] for teenage phenom on the cover of
[00:23:15] sports illustrated and exceeding
[00:23:18] expectations blowing them out of the
[00:23:20] water is Bryce Harper not right there
[00:23:22] too.
[00:23:23] I mean this dude is a borderline if not
[00:23:26] slam not slam dunk if not definitive
[00:23:29] Hall of Famer from the production he's
[00:23:31] had he has had some of the best offensive
[00:23:33] seasons his 2015 season is one of the
[00:23:36] best offensive seasons in baseball
[00:23:38] history period and he has done it
[00:23:40] while having all the scrutiny on him
[00:23:42] while people have called him a hothead.
[00:23:44] He's changed teams with free agency
[00:23:46] and he's gone on and he has performed
[00:23:48] and not just performed in the regular
[00:23:50] season he's performed in the post
[00:23:51] season as well and he is he's just
[00:23:54] fun.
[00:23:55] He's fun so he has to be number one on
[00:23:57] my list.
[00:23:59] Just to add on to Harper oh I think
[00:24:01] Harper is absolutely number two on
[00:24:02] that list behind LeBron in terms of
[00:24:04] living up to expectation because you
[00:24:07] don't hear bad things off the field
[00:24:08] about Bryce Harper you don't hear
[00:24:10] him ever getting into scuffles about
[00:24:12] things or I mean okay he's been
[00:24:14] in fights on the field but again
[00:24:15] he's he's like he's a model dude
[00:24:18] what like what do people screw like
[00:24:19] scrutinize them for the clown
[00:24:20] question bro when he was 20 or 21
[00:24:23] and again like being a hothead on
[00:24:25] the field sometimes but you're right
[00:24:27] like first off I'd say he is a
[00:24:29] Hall of Famer if he retired today
[00:24:32] I think he's a Hall of Famer he's
[00:24:33] got two MVPs that usually does it
[00:24:35] and by the way he's got like 10
[00:24:36] years to go in his career so
[00:24:38] I've I think we've both done a
[00:24:40] total 180 on Bryce Harper in the
[00:24:42] last few years because truthfully
[00:24:43] he he used to really piss me off
[00:24:45] and not for the reasons that you
[00:24:47] mentioned it was because I didn't
[00:24:49] think he was worthy all the money
[00:24:50] he was getting in free agent you
[00:24:51] thought he had like he had had
[00:24:54] like multiple one win seasons two
[00:24:56] of the last three years I'm thinking
[00:24:57] myself this guy's about to get
[00:24:58] 300 plus million bucks what like
[00:25:01] what is a team doing and I was
[00:25:03] totally wrong because since he's
[00:25:04] gotten to the Phillies he has not
[00:25:06] only lived up to that contract
[00:25:07] he's exceeded it so far so I've
[00:25:09] done very much of 180 on Bryce
[00:25:11] Harper number two for me is
[00:25:14] Edwin DS pretty easy that's a
[00:25:17] pretty easy one Timmy Trump it's
[00:25:19] his electric so perfect combination
[00:25:23] there and not as much of a runway
[00:25:26] there I just everyone I think
[00:25:28] everyone in Marinersland loves
[00:25:30] Eddie and then number three I have
[00:25:32] is Jacob DeGramme I know he's
[00:25:33] a Texas Ranger I love watching
[00:25:35] that dude pitch it is unbelievable
[00:25:37] like there are very few pitchers
[00:25:40] in big league history that has
[00:25:41] the stuff that Jacob DeGramme
[00:25:42] does it's a shame he can't stay
[00:25:44] healthy we're talking about a hundred
[00:25:47] to 102 miles an hour with a fast
[00:25:49] ball and then a 93 mile an hour
[00:25:51] slider that nobody can hit and
[00:25:53] he's got two other pitches to that
[00:25:55] he doesn't even need to throw
[00:25:56] because he's that good and pinpoint
[00:25:59] command correct yeah just shame
[00:26:01] he can't stay healthy in 2021
[00:26:04] it was getting to the point where
[00:26:06] I was going out of my way to go
[00:26:08] on MLB TV or yeah go on MLB TV
[00:26:10] and tune in to watch every single
[00:26:12] Jacob DeGramme start because what
[00:26:13] he was doing in 2021 before he got
[00:26:15] hurt was maybe the most ridiculous
[00:26:18] half season I'd ever seen out of a
[00:26:19] pitcher guys were not touching
[00:26:22] Jacob DeGramme it was it was
[00:26:24] almost unfathomable and it's a shame
[00:26:26] that basically since then he's been
[00:26:28] derailed with injuries but again
[00:26:31] he can be in division all we want
[00:26:33] but just appreciate greatness while
[00:26:34] you see it because guys like him
[00:26:36] do not come around often okay
[00:26:39] before we get to our next question
[00:26:40] let's take a quick pause and talk
[00:26:42] to you about our friends over at
[00:26:43] Pagotches Pub 85 that's Pagotches
[00:26:45] Pub 85 in Kirkland I was just
[00:26:47] over there yesterday I was meeting
[00:26:49] up with some friends having some
[00:26:50] drinks why because it's an awesome
[00:26:52] place to hang out their sports on
[00:26:53] their three food they have great
[00:26:55] pizza and some great happy
[00:26:57] hours specials those are from Monday
[00:26:59] through Friday 2 to 6 p.m.
[00:27:00] They include $3 domestic beers
[00:27:03] $4 Manning's Blue Moons $4
[00:27:05] Mackinjax $4 Wells $4 House
[00:27:07] Wine so you want to go watch some
[00:27:09] football some basketball some hockey
[00:27:11] and a couple months baseball when
[00:27:12] it starts and go hang out with
[00:27:14] your friends and go eat and drink
[00:27:15] and have a good time head over
[00:27:17] there to Pagotches Pub 85 in
[00:27:19] Kirkland question number four
[00:27:21] we got a few more of these to go
[00:27:23] question number four okay this is
[00:27:25] a very long one this is from
[00:27:28] YouTube commenter who's got a
[00:27:30] long username so we're not going
[00:27:31] to read it but I will I will
[00:27:33] read this long tweet here he
[00:27:35] said wanted to throw some trade
[00:27:37] ideas your way I think these could
[00:27:39] help round out the offense he has
[00:27:41] given three between Seattle and
[00:27:43] the Cardinals is the first one
[00:27:45] the Mariners give Emerson Hancock
[00:27:46] and Dylan Morris St. Louis they
[00:27:49] get back Brendan Donovan that's
[00:27:50] number one number two between
[00:27:53] Seattle and the Cincinnati Reds
[00:27:55] the Mariners would send Matt
[00:27:56] Brash Cade Marlowe Gabby Gonzalez
[00:27:58] and Jonathan Closset a Cincinnati
[00:28:01] the Mariners would get back
[00:28:02] TJ Friedel and a little bit of
[00:28:04] money he said three to five
[00:28:05] million dollars the third one he
[00:28:07] sent was the Mariners send
[00:28:09] Tyadcock Taylor Tramiel and
[00:28:11] Robert Perez to the pirates and
[00:28:14] in return they get Connor Joe so
[00:28:17] those are three different trades
[00:28:19] that he's thrown out they're all
[00:28:20] with NL central teams and we
[00:28:23] thought we'd talk about them here
[00:28:24] on this show is there any of
[00:28:25] those three teach that stood
[00:28:27] out TJ Friedel is the best
[00:28:30] of the bunch and if it would
[00:28:32] cost the most because that would
[00:28:34] be the one where you send Matt
[00:28:35] Brash but TJ Friedel plays center
[00:28:37] field for the Reds 352 on base
[00:28:40] percentage of 116 WRC plus he's
[00:28:44] plus in the outfield that was
[00:28:47] worth four and a half wins this
[00:28:48] season struck out just 16% of
[00:28:51] the time our friend here says
[00:28:53] hey TJ Friedel if you trade
[00:28:55] for him you could slot him in
[00:28:57] and hit him number one or
[00:28:58] number two in this lineup
[00:29:01] maybe maybe it would be one I
[00:29:02] don't think it would be two if
[00:29:03] he was going to hit up there
[00:29:05] but TJ Friedel is a very valuable
[00:29:07] major league baseball player
[00:29:08] and if you're comfortable with
[00:29:11] replacing Matt Brash and you
[00:29:13] trust the Mariners to replace
[00:29:15] the production you can replace
[00:29:16] the stuff but you could probably
[00:29:18] replace Matt Brash's production
[00:29:20] with a different reliever then
[00:29:22] this would make your team
[00:29:23] considerably better I think to
[00:29:26] be honest when I'm looking at
[00:29:28] these three trades he's not
[00:29:29] suggesting they do just one
[00:29:31] trade he's suggesting they do
[00:29:33] all three of these and here's
[00:29:34] why he's suggesting that when
[00:29:38] you do all three of these
[00:29:39] trades what do you check off
[00:29:41] okay so Jerry said they need
[00:29:42] an outfielder and a half this
[00:29:44] offseason well these three
[00:29:46] trades bring you one full time
[00:29:48] outfielder and TJ Friedel
[00:29:50] it brings you the half and
[00:29:52] Connor Joe who mashes left
[00:29:54] handers which they could use
[00:29:55] to platoon with Dom Kanzon and
[00:29:58] then you'll of course
[00:29:59] have who you Rodriguez out there as well
[00:30:01] but it will also bring
[00:30:03] bring you an infielder in
[00:30:04] Brendan Donovan who can play
[00:30:06] second base and which will shift
[00:30:08] your platoon from second base
[00:30:10] to third base on the infield
[00:30:13] it really does solve some issues here
[00:30:16] and for the combination of these
[00:30:19] three trades the biggest hit would
[00:30:22] be Matt Brash so you would also
[00:30:24] give up Emerson Hancock in these deals
[00:30:26] you'd be giving up your top stuff
[00:30:28] reliever and you'd be giving up
[00:30:30] your number one depth arm
[00:30:31] in your organization if you are okay
[00:30:34] trading those guys
[00:30:35] and you feel confident
[00:30:36] the Mariners could replace them
[00:30:39] then these trades do make your line
[00:30:41] up better and they make your line
[00:30:42] up better strategically
[00:30:45] and just overall good as well
[00:30:47] because you have full
[00:30:48] you're gonna get full time players
[00:30:51] I do have to respond to one thing
[00:30:53] in these trade proposals
[00:30:55] I think this is a very
[00:30:56] very low sell on Brendan Donovan
[00:30:58] I don't think the Cardinals are accepting this trade
[00:31:01] I guess it depends on how they view
[00:31:02] Emerson Hancock but assuming they do
[00:31:04] not still view him as the guy that was
[00:31:06] taken number six overall in 2020
[00:31:09] it's hard to imagine they get back
[00:31:10] Brendan Donovan for that now
[00:31:13] if it's Bryce Miller then maybe
[00:31:16] that could make some real sense
[00:31:18] and we've talked about that for months
[00:31:20] but it's hard to see Emerson Hancock
[00:31:22] and Dylan Moore being a package
[00:31:24] that could get you back Brendan Donovan
[00:31:26] the guy who has proven to be a very good
[00:31:27] big league hitter at a young age
[00:31:29] and said and three million dollars
[00:31:32] that too though
[00:31:33] that would be a little steep
[00:31:35] so that all being said
[00:31:38] if these were all the trades that were executed
[00:31:40] or if we flip Hancock for Miller
[00:31:42] and execute all these trades
[00:31:44] let's play another round of what would
[00:31:46] the Mariners look like in this scenario
[00:31:47] because we've done it on the last few shows
[00:31:50] let's do it here again
[00:31:51] if all three of these three of these trades
[00:31:52] were executed
[00:31:54] we are talking about
[00:31:55] I think JP leads off
[00:31:57] Julio second
[00:31:59] Cal Raleigh would be third
[00:32:01] Garver would be fourth
[00:32:03] Brendan Donovan would be fifth
[00:32:06] Ty France would hit six
[00:32:07] Frito would hit seventh
[00:32:08] Kanzon would hit eighth
[00:32:10] Rojas would hit ninth
[00:32:11] and again
[00:32:12] maybe it's not as quite as good as the lineup
[00:32:14] we threw out on Wednesday's podcast
[00:32:16] with Parades and Rosarana in it
[00:32:19] that's a competitive lineup
[00:32:20] that's a lot deeper
[00:32:21] you got some good bats
[00:32:22] Frito is a very good outfielder
[00:32:24] it's a lot better than what it currently sets at
[00:32:27] and if it were these trades
[00:32:29] you'd keep both of your valuable assets
[00:32:32] in the rotation
[00:32:33] both of them
[00:32:33] you wouldn't you wouldn't have to worry
[00:32:36] well again
[00:32:37] in this scenario I'm saying
[00:32:38] you might have to make it Bryce Miller
[00:32:40] in the scenario he gave us
[00:32:42] yes you'd keep both Miller and Wu
[00:32:44] I'm saying if we modified a little bit
[00:32:46] assuming that it would probably cost one of the arms
[00:32:48] to get Donovan
[00:32:49] then yeah
[00:32:50] are you okay trading Bryce Miller
[00:32:52] for just Brendan Donovan?
[00:32:55] you might need a little more at this point
[00:32:57] again it like we talked about on Wednesday's pod
[00:32:59] if the market for starting pitching is as crazy
[00:33:01] as it has been
[00:33:02] and it continues that way
[00:33:04] you should get more than that for Brendan
[00:33:06] for Brendan Donovan
[00:33:07] six years of Bryce Miller
[00:33:08] should get you more than that
[00:33:09] but it should
[00:33:11] yeah, Brendan Donovan is already 26
[00:33:13] right
[00:33:15] I don't think it could get you Jordan Walker
[00:33:18] again
[00:33:18] I have a hard time believing
[00:33:20] the Cardinals will move away from him
[00:33:21] even though it would be an unreal
[00:33:23] get
[00:33:25] is Dylan Carlson enough
[00:33:26] to get back with Donovan in that trade
[00:33:28] that's another outfielder
[00:33:29] although he's had his struggles
[00:33:31] maybe giving Miller up you would get
[00:33:34] Brendan Donovan and Dylan Carlson
[00:33:37] hypothetically
[00:33:38] is that enough
[00:33:39] probably
[00:33:40] yeah okay
[00:33:41] okay then yes
[00:33:44] so like so okay so
[00:33:47] if that was the case
[00:33:49] again they get very significantly better
[00:33:52] with these three trades
[00:33:53] and it sure does hurt
[00:33:55] you're gonna give up Brash
[00:33:56] and Bryce Miller
[00:33:58] whoo
[00:33:59] that's tough
[00:34:00] that's tough but
[00:34:02] in terms of getting better
[00:34:04] you're getting better
[00:34:06] so
[00:34:07] sure
[00:34:07] I like these trades
[00:34:08] I'm glad
[00:34:09] this person went through the time to think these out
[00:34:12] I think
[00:34:13] I think these are very good solid trades
[00:34:15] and I think they're realistic too
[00:34:18] like entirely
[00:34:19] like to be like shout out for the Connor Joe one
[00:34:21] like I wasn't even thinking about
[00:34:23] trading for Connor Joe
[00:34:24] but
[00:34:25] he made the point
[00:34:26] hey listen Connor Joe hits lefties really well
[00:34:28] it's got a 122 WRC plus against lefties
[00:34:31] throw him in there in the outfield
[00:34:32] with Dom Kanzone
[00:34:34] that can be your outfield platoon
[00:34:36] and
[00:34:37] he essentially Connor Joe
[00:34:39] probably
[00:34:40] replaces the role of Dylan Moore in the outfield
[00:34:42] okay
[00:34:45] yeah
[00:34:46] yeah shout out to him for thinking these out
[00:34:47] these are well thought out
[00:34:48] again I would just modify the Hancock trade a little bit
[00:34:51] because it feels a little bit low but especially
[00:34:54] the trades is a whole
[00:34:55] for the most part are very well thought out and the players
[00:34:57] you're getting back
[00:34:58] are also well thought out especially with Friedel
[00:35:00] the Mariners and Reds make a lot of trades
[00:35:02] Mariners very much need an outfielder
[00:35:05] this would make a lot of sense
[00:35:06] and all three of these guys do make the team better
[00:35:11] let's get to our next question
[00:35:14] our next question comes to us from
[00:35:16] Mitchell Hopkins 9331 on YouTube
[00:35:21] the question is
[00:35:22] is the AL West the best division in baseball
[00:35:25] they haven't lost to any other division in the playoffs
[00:35:27] in the last two seasons
[00:35:29] Wow what do you think
[00:35:31] they're definitely the best postseason roster right now
[00:35:35] or sorry the best postseason division right now
[00:35:37] best regular season division and best overall
[00:35:40] there's an argument
[00:35:41] I think the three teams at the top have been
[00:35:44] about as competitive as any in baseball between the
[00:35:46] Astros the Rangers
[00:35:48] and the Mariners we saw how close all three of those teams
[00:35:50] were neck and neck at the end of the year
[00:35:53] but I think there's an argument for both Eastern divisions
[00:35:55] as well I think the AL East absolutely has an argument
[00:35:58] because all five of those teams have been
[00:36:01] pretty competitive especially the first four over the
[00:36:03] last couple years with
[00:36:05] the Orioles Yankees
[00:36:07] Blue Jays and Reyes
[00:36:09] and the NL East
[00:36:11] Billy's gotten to the World Series the Braves or Juggernauts
[00:36:14] Marlins were in the playoffs this past year Mets were
[00:36:16] in the playoffs last year
[00:36:18] it's close there there's an argument for a couple of divisions
[00:36:22] I do think the AL West has a very good one
[00:36:24] what hurts it is the Angels in the ace
[00:36:28] let's blame the ace
[00:36:30] I'm comfortable just blaming this all on the ace
[00:36:33] so the AL East
[00:36:36] I'll probably give the crown to
[00:36:38] and the regular I'll say the AL West is the third best
[00:36:42] regular season division
[00:36:45] behind the end of the two Eastern divisions I got
[00:36:48] like we're talking this person uses the two year time frame
[00:36:51] so okay
[00:36:53] two years ago the NL East had to 100 game winners
[00:36:57] and the NL champions
[00:37:00] that's hard to beat
[00:37:01] even though the AL West had the World Series champion
[00:37:05] I think the NL East had an overall better year this season
[00:37:09] they had again the NL runner-up this time
[00:37:13] they also had the Braves and then the Marlins in the playoffs
[00:37:15] as well
[00:37:17] so that's a that's a pretty good case for the NL East
[00:37:20] and AL East again takes care of itself because they're
[00:37:22] they've been very very very very good in the regular season
[00:37:26] the past two years so let's say that's my take on that
[00:37:29] my tiebreaker ultimately Lyle is that the Braves never lose
[00:37:34] so final
[00:37:36] except in the playoffs
[00:37:38] well yeah you can't win the World Series every year
[00:37:40] no they did they did win it in 2021 to be fair but
[00:37:45] it's it's still just pretty unbelievable to me that that
[00:37:48] team played the way they played in 23 and then lost but
[00:37:51] the baseball playoffs are fluke it's just about who gets hot
[00:37:53] again
[00:37:54] Diamondbacks got hot at the right time I don't think a single
[00:37:56] person outside the state of Arizona pick those guys to
[00:37:58] get to the World Series
[00:37:59] No I don't think so either but this was a fun question
[00:38:02] to think about because
[00:38:04] again successful yes best
[00:38:07] that's kind of hard to measure I'll let you read the next
[00:38:10] question here in a second dog but before we get to that
[00:38:13] want to give a shout out to our friends at simply Seattle
[00:38:16] if you're looking for some new clothes like I am in this new

[00:38:46] new year go check out our friends at simply Seattle
[00:38:49] and use our code Marine 15 for 15% off
[00:38:54] Okay so two questions to go here in the mailbag we've
[00:38:57] got one from Chuck 7346 on Instagram he says thoughts
[00:39:01] on Cole Young being the heir apparent to JP Crawford
[00:39:06] my thoughts on this is well I think Cole Young is going to be
[00:39:09] in the big leagues within a year and a half I don't think
[00:39:12] he's JP's heir apparent because he's not going to play shortstop
[00:39:16] I think Cole Young is going to be a second baseman when he
[00:39:20] gets the big leagues it just seems like that's how it's
[00:39:22] trending with the we talked to Joe Doyle about it we've
[00:39:26] talked to some other prospect people about it it
[00:39:28] just seems like Cole Young is going to be a second baseman
[00:39:32] and that's at no fault of his I think there are better they're
[00:39:35] going to be better short stops coming up in the organization
[00:39:38] like Colt Emerson and Felene Celestin when they get up
[00:39:42] to Cole Young's level this is no discount to Cole Young
[00:39:45] though because if Cole Young can hit like this at second
[00:39:47] base we're talking about him turning into Marcus Simeon
[00:39:50] which is very valuable so we'll take that Cole Young though
[00:39:54] shout out to this guy I personally think he's going
[00:39:57] to be start the year in Everett then go to double A this season
[00:40:01] but this man mashed a 142 WRC plus at age 20 in high A this
[00:40:06] year and walked nearly 15% of the time he's almost ready
[00:40:10] for that double A level and he has proven to be the bat
[00:40:14] they drafted in that draft just an excellent signing by Jerry
[00:40:18] and he has proven them right over his first full minor
[00:40:21] league season.
[00:40:23] I'm going to give a semi-hot take right now I don't
[00:40:26] even think it's that hot but I'm going to throw it out there.
[00:40:30] I think there is an outside chance I'm not locking it in again
[00:40:33] do not use these words against me but I think there is an
[00:40:36] outside chance we could see Cole Young in the majors at some
[00:40:41] point in 2024 maybe the end of the year it may not be till
[00:40:44] September but if he's hitting that well and the Mariners
[00:40:47] are in a playoff race and they feel like his back could
[00:40:50] be of some reinforcement.
[00:40:53] I think there's a shot I also think there's a chance
[00:40:56] he starts the year in Arkansas I wouldn't lock that in either
[00:40:58] with only with less than 50 games played never last year
[00:41:02] he may go back to Everett to start the year but if that's
[00:41:05] the case I don't think he's going to be there long.
[00:41:08] I this is just an example I thought of but you know how
[00:41:10] Jackson holiday had a few great games and a ball and they
[00:41:14] just they just said OK he's too good for this league let's
[00:41:16] move them up well if Cole if Cole Young goes back to Everett
[00:41:19] and for the first 10 to 15 games he's just lighting the
[00:41:22] world on fire that may be all they need to see they
[00:41:25] may say that point all right you're going to Arkansas.
[00:41:28] So if that's the case and he starts in Arkansas early in
[00:41:31] the year and he's hitting for a while down there it's possible
[00:41:34] not banking it I'm not banking on it I'm not locking it in.
[00:41:37] I think there's a chance.
[00:41:39] Cole Young hit well this past season Jackson holiday was
[00:41:44] unbelievable.
[00:41:45] Okay season there's a bit of a bit of a stipulation there
[00:41:48] but here's here's my one response to this.
[00:41:52] I just don't think he's going to pass Ryan Bliss this
[00:41:54] year I don't see how he passes Ryan Bliss this year not after
[00:41:57] them trading for bliss.
[00:41:59] I don't see that flat flat out I don't and just to think I
[00:42:04] don't know what the plus is of putting a he'll be 21 this
[00:42:09] year 21 year old Cole Young in the big leagues this year
[00:42:13] to probably be a below average big leaguer this year
[00:42:16] probably that's the odds when you promote a guy this
[00:42:19] fast that's what happens.
[00:42:21] I don't see the benefit of that therefore I could
[00:42:24] understand the Mariners pumping the brakes and saying
[00:42:28] sorry Lyle.
[00:42:30] Okay I think you're already spinning words into my mouth
[00:42:33] that I did not say number one number one I use Jackson holiday
[00:42:37] as an example like find me where I said Cole Young is Jackson
[00:42:40] holiday it was just you did it but since he is not that
[00:42:45] is that like that is that is a realistic scenario of teams
[00:42:49] jumping their prospects up like that for guys like Jackson
[00:42:53] holiday like this is that no slight to go young.
[00:42:58] But like different tears.
[00:43:01] Okay it was just the example I use of again very short time
[00:43:04] there and moved up I'm saying if Cole Young goes back to Everett
[00:43:07] and plays 15 great games they may say okay we've seen enough
[00:43:09] in a ball from Cole.
[00:43:11] And I'm also saying I don't think he gets up in June or
[00:43:14] July I'm saying if he if he puts up a 140 WRC plus in
[00:43:19] Arkansas this year which would be crazy because we know
[00:43:22] that high A to double A is the biggest job but if he is truly
[00:43:25] lighting it up this year.
[00:43:27] I just think there's a chance in September maybe you see him
[00:43:29] and again I am not locking it in I'm saying there is a small
[00:43:33] chance I'm not banking on it I'm just saying there's a small
[00:43:36] chance it could happen.
[00:43:37] But you said maybe not you said hot take not so hot
[00:43:40] take what was the exact terminology.
[00:43:43] Okay I said semi-hot take.
[00:43:45] Hot is bigger than a small chance.
[00:43:48] Okay well I think I still set in their small chance.
[00:43:52] So let me final answer I'm locking in small chance he is up
[00:43:55] in the big leagues in 2024 if he hits that well and to end to
[00:43:58] the point of the original question it'd be a second base.
[00:44:02] I think there's too many short stops like you said down in
[00:44:05] the lower levels of the system that are probably better
[00:44:07] short stops than Cole Young are defensively.
[00:44:09] So I think Cole Young is going to be playing second base
[00:44:11] long term truthfully you didn't mention our guy Tai
[00:44:14] Pete and I truly believe this like he might be the best
[00:44:16] athlete all those guys I mean you can you can argue for
[00:44:19] Celestine obviously but I think there's a chance Cole
[00:44:22] Emerson moves to third at some point maybe maybe I'm
[00:44:25] wrong on that he may just stick it short but I think time
[00:44:29] may be the best athlete and if that's the case you could
[00:44:31] use that as a point of argument and say well he could
[00:44:33] play anywhere you put him in the outfield you put him
[00:44:35] at third you can put him at second but there's also
[00:44:37] the case of if he's the best athlete you want your best
[00:44:39] athletes at short he stays at short.
[00:44:42] I will just say it was Colt playing short in Modesto
[00:44:45] this year when they were all there at the same level
[00:44:47] so just move for thought however I think we can sit back
[00:44:51] here and say let's let's let's let them all reach 20 first
[00:44:55] and then reevaluate they got a they got a little bit to go.
[00:44:59] Yeah and I'm sure they'll I'm sure they're all going
[00:45:01] to get reps at short and maybe it's a little bit of
[00:45:03] some other positions too because again if Colton
[00:45:06] Tai are going to be playing at levels together
[00:45:08] somebody is going to be the priority shortstop
[00:45:09] and there is a chance it's cold Emerson obviously he
[00:45:11] was the higher pick but I would bet you those guys
[00:45:15] share time at different positions.
[00:45:17] Let's get to our final question here on this mailbag
[00:45:20] edition.
[00:45:21] This comes from Siege underscore twenty two on Instagram
[00:45:26] who is the current 40 man player nobody is talking
[00:45:29] about that you're excited about.
[00:45:33] Give me our guy Ty Adcock look he got sent down
[00:45:37] and then he had an injury in his first stint
[00:45:38] in the big leagues but there was a lot of points
[00:45:40] in that stint he looked really really damn good.
[00:45:44] So that compared or that combined with the fact
[00:45:47] that he has thrown so few innings in his professional
[00:45:50] baseball career he gets some more of a workload
[00:45:52] under him.
[00:45:53] We talked about this with him that again the fact
[00:45:57] he has not thrown that many innings he has so much
[00:45:58] more to learn so if he continues to get he continues
[00:46:02] to build up his workload and he's on the field
[00:46:04] and he's healthy this year and he's flashing
[00:46:05] the really good stuff that we've seen him flash
[00:46:07] in the big leagues and other levels of the minors.
[00:46:10] Yeah he could be in this big league bullpen
[00:46:11] in twenty four and be really good.
[00:46:13] So I don't think a lot of people are talking
[00:46:14] about Ty Adcock right now because he wasn't on
[00:46:17] the roster most of the second half of the year.
[00:46:19] We saw some other guys we saw as a Campbell
[00:46:21] who's now traded we saw Barrow a little bit
[00:46:23] and very very short stints including at the
[00:46:25] very end of the year.
[00:46:27] We saw Trent Thornton a decent amount so they're
[00:46:29] guys right handed pitchers that are expected to
[00:46:31] be in this bullpen in twenty four but I feel
[00:46:34] like Ty Adcox a guy that's gotten forgot
[00:46:35] about simply because okay you had a couple bad
[00:46:38] outings and then he got sent down and then
[00:46:39] he got injured.
[00:46:41] He could come into spring training look really
[00:46:42] good and be in this bullpen as a staple in twenty
[00:46:45] four you don't know who's going to be the good
[00:46:46] arm in this bullpen behind or the good arms
[00:46:48] plural in this bullpen behind brash Munoz Topa
[00:46:51] the expected guys etc.
[00:46:52] It could absolutely be Ty Adcox so because he's
[00:46:56] a friend of the program I'm sure we're giving
[00:46:57] him a little extra bit of a bump but regardless
[00:47:00] even if we had never had him on I do think
[00:47:02] that's a guy that has really good stuff
[00:47:04] and could and could contribute in the twenty
[00:47:06] twenty four bullpen.
[00:47:08] My guy is not I kind of cheated on the that
[00:47:11] nobody is talking about because that was to be
[00:47:14] honest I was scanning the forty man roster and
[00:47:16] I'm looking and there's just one name that just
[00:47:20] jumps that just jumps that guys are people were
[00:47:23] talking about but maybe not to the level of an
[00:47:27] actual big leader because he hasn't really been
[00:47:29] a big leader yet and that's perlander Barrow.
[00:47:32] We're waiting all season for perlander to
[00:47:34] be up with the Mariners in twenty twenty three.
[00:47:36] Well where is he well if we're talking about someone
[00:47:38] who can come into the big leagues in twenty twenty
[00:47:41] four and make an impact this guy right here
[00:47:44] devastating stuff I.
[00:47:47] I cannot wait to watch him I am very much looking
[00:47:50] forward to him being out there in a Mariners
[00:47:53] uniform this season in twenty twenty four
[00:47:55] making an impact sure people are talking about
[00:47:58] him but if we're talking about impact of people
[00:47:59] that don't actually play on that big league
[00:48:02] roster it's this guy it's really hard to argue
[00:48:05] anyone but this guy.
[00:48:08] I can't wait to see him I didn't even think that
[00:48:10] outing that warranted warranted quote unquote.
[00:48:14] Option back to the minor leagues was even all
[00:48:17] that warranted I thought that was so weird
[00:48:18] when they called him up for that one outing.
[00:48:20] I know he had a little bit of issues with his
[00:48:22] command but I thought the stuff was there he got
[00:48:24] out of a jam and then they just set him right
[00:48:26] back down after one day after one outing I
[00:48:28] thought that was so weird and they didn't come
[00:48:30] back to the final day of the season where he got
[00:48:32] a little bit of work in that game one sixty
[00:48:34] two late he's thrown two outings in his big league
[00:48:37] career.
[00:48:38] Oh I I cannot wait to see prelander Barrow in twenty
[00:48:41] four again.
[00:48:42] I think there are a lot of guys who you can lock
[00:48:44] into this bullpen already the three righties
[00:48:46] being the key ones with fresh Munoz Topa I'm
[00:48:48] sure Spire and Saucedo are going to play big
[00:48:50] roles again I'm sure there's going to be
[00:48:51] some other guys buying for a lot of spots.
[00:48:54] I would be very surprised if Barrow is not on
[00:48:57] the opening day roster this year I think he was
[00:48:59] right on the brink all of twenty twenty three
[00:49:01] the stuff is there and as long as he looks good
[00:49:04] in the spring this year it's going to be firing on
[00:49:06] all cylinders for him.
[00:49:09] Well once you got anything else to add with this
[00:49:10] dog we can get to our final segment.
[00:49:14] I think that's about it we got some good questions
[00:49:16] from people which we appreciate it's not just
[00:49:18] though you know your very basic questions and
[00:49:20] it's like well let's try to think of something
[00:49:22] to come up with for a unique answer to a fan
[00:49:24] question no you guys send some really good ones
[00:49:26] and these were fun so thank you guys as always
[00:49:29] not just for listening but for sparking some
[00:49:31] good debate too.
[00:49:32] And we need to I think we need to do more of these
[00:49:34] regularly because we could tell from the response
[00:49:38] we got from this asking for mail bag questions
[00:49:42] like their questions out there that people want
[00:49:43] answered so I think we need to be a little bit
[00:49:47] better about doing some mail bag episodes so I keep
[00:49:50] an eye out for that in the future I think this
[00:49:51] is this is a good a good thing to do for us
[00:49:55] so I think we will make it a point to try and do
[00:49:58] more of these in the future.
[00:49:59] Yeah during the season I think it'll be even
[00:50:01] easier because there's going to be so many
[00:50:03] questions obviously during the season but
[00:50:05] you know the offseason can be weird sometimes
[00:50:07] you know stories pop up and trades and free
[00:50:09] agent signings happen and obviously we always
[00:50:10] work to get a lot of guests on which take
[00:50:12] on which take up some episodes but you're
[00:50:14] right if we can aim for at least a once a month
[00:50:16] type thing to do a mail bag episode I think
[00:50:18] that's good because one we enjoy them and
[00:50:20] two it seems like you guys enjoy them so
[00:50:22] absolutely.
[00:50:23] All right let's get to speak your mind.
[00:50:26] Speak your mind Spock would be and what is
[00:50:34] necessary is never unwise.
[00:50:37] Okay well I'm going to have to lead this off
[00:50:39] because I've been needing to get this off my
[00:50:42] mind I was scrolling today before before I
[00:50:45] hopped on here and I saw this quote the
[00:50:48] college football playoffs semi finals were
[00:50:50] this weekend excellent games Michigan and
[00:50:53] Washington for the national championship on
[00:50:56] Monday pretty cool for the Huskies didn't
[00:50:59] think they would do it well they've done it
[00:51:02] but I'm going to look over to the other side
[00:51:03] in the program that has created more false
[00:51:06] adversity than any program I have ever seen
[00:51:09] in a college football season these
[00:51:11] Michigan Wolverines so not only were they
[00:51:14] caught cheating and had the guy who's
[00:51:18] behind it in the booster who was caught
[00:51:20] resigned I don't know what happened to the
[00:51:22] booster but Connor Stallion resigned
[00:51:24] November 3rd and then he was at the
[00:51:28] Rose Bowl yeah he was at the Rose Bowl by
[00:51:30] the way with Chase Winovich which was so
[00:51:33] funny which you can see is just essentially
[00:51:35] a massive middle finger to the NCAA which
[00:51:38] is again funny because the college football
[00:51:41] playoff isn't even an NCAA sanctioned
[00:51:43] event just the funniest thing ever because
[00:51:46] he's just like nope see how anyways
[00:51:49] so JJ McCarthy today they were doing their
[00:51:53] their teleconference for the national
[00:51:55] championship and he essentially just
[00:51:57] admitted to all the cheating essentially
[00:51:59] he was like here's his quote about 80
[00:52:02] percent of teams in college football
[00:52:04] steal signs we actually had to adapt
[00:52:06] because of 2019 and 2020 Ohio State was
[00:52:09] stealing our signs and then he made
[00:52:11] sure to emphasize which is legal we had
[00:52:14] to get up to the level they were at
[00:52:16] and make it an even playing field so not
[00:52:19] only did they make it an even playing
[00:52:20] field Lyle but according to a lot of the
[00:52:23] research people have done they made it
[00:52:25] an uneven playing field they went farther
[00:52:28] in this and resulted again in Connor
[00:52:31] Stallion's having to resign from his
[00:52:32] position at the University of Michigan
[00:52:35] and I'm trying to think this is the
[00:52:37] weirdest flex of all times he was like
[00:52:39] oh other teams were legally stealing our
[00:52:41] signs so we instead turned around and
[00:52:44] started employing Connor Stallion's to go
[00:52:47] illegally steal everyone else's signs and
[00:52:51] then once Connor Stallion's resigns and
[00:52:54] I assume their sign stealing goes away
[00:52:56] with it wouldn't you happen to know I'm
[00:52:58] checking JJ McCarthy's box scores and
[00:53:01] the games after and they were terrible
[00:53:05] they were terrible so Connor Stallion's
[00:53:09] resigned on November 3rd in the
[00:53:13] five games since then let's read some
[00:53:15] box scores here for JJ McCarthy 7 for 8
[00:53:19] for 60 yards nothing no touchdowns no
[00:53:23] interceptions 12 for 23 141 yards one
[00:53:28] interception against Maryland 16 for
[00:53:31] 20 for 148 against Ohio State one
[00:53:35] touchdown against Iowa in the Big 10
[00:53:37] championship game 22 for 30 for 147
[00:53:42] no touchdowns no interceptions then he
[00:53:44] had a pretty good game in the Rose Bowl
[00:53:45] 221 yards three touchdowns no
[00:53:49] interceptions but kind of funny that
[00:53:52] JJ McCarthy's box scores tanked once
[00:53:56] Connor Stallion's resigned and funny
[00:53:58] coincidence that after the video
[00:54:01] surfaced of Connor Stallion's on the
[00:54:03] sideline clearly with a printout of
[00:54:07] hand signals competing them to the
[00:54:10] defensive and offensive coordinators of
[00:54:12] Michigan once that goes away things
[00:54:15] all of a sudden aren't as efficient
[00:54:16] anymore hmm hmm hmm
[00:54:20] funny like it's almost like they had
[00:54:23] some outside help yeah you don't like
[00:54:25] what McCarthy had to say today did
[00:54:26] you just think it it's this adversity
[00:54:30] card that the University of Michigan
[00:54:32] has played all season is it's just
[00:54:34] the stupidest thing ever like you got
[00:54:36] caught and it's like oh if only the
[00:54:39] media didn't bring it up what it's the
[00:54:42] same thing is how the Patriots use the
[00:54:45] deflate gate thing as adversity how the
[00:54:47] Astros use the cheat at the trash can
[00:54:49] banging his adversity like no you're
[00:54:52] spinning fake storylines in your own
[00:54:54] head for something you did like it
[00:54:57] doesn't take away from the fact that
[00:54:58] also it like it all starts stems
[00:55:00] from the top like Jim Harbaugh is
[00:55:02] unlikeable like he just is he's a
[00:55:05] goofball he like he I think this some of
[00:55:10] the vitriol probably comes from the
[00:55:12] Seahawks and 49ers battled about a decade
[00:55:14] ago by the way a man in Jim Harbaugh
[00:55:16] who has one foot out the door he is
[00:55:18] ready to go back to the NFL I mean he
[00:55:20] is not even hiding it and then the
[00:55:22] University will just take every arrow
[00:55:24] possible for him to make sure this
[00:55:26] happens as long as he wins the
[00:55:27] national championship it's the
[00:55:30] stupidest story of all time these
[00:55:32] stupidest like what other profession
[00:55:35] it's like public information it's like
[00:55:36] yeah our head coach specifically hired
[00:55:39] an agent of another sport but it
[00:55:42] doesn't mean anything don't you just
[00:55:45] love these college football narratives
[00:55:46] sometimes they really get to NBA levels
[00:55:49] they are because they have nothing
[00:55:50] else to talk about because there's no
[00:55:52] parody in the sport so in summary
[00:55:56] despite neither of us going to this
[00:55:57] school bow down to Washington come
[00:56:00] Monday yeah I'm rooting for the
[00:56:02] Huskies yeah yeah I will not be
[00:56:05] rooting for Michigan you also know
[00:56:07] Michigan fans are probably going to be
[00:56:08] absolutely insufferable if they win
[00:56:09] too because they they ran with this
[00:56:12] narrative too it's like everybody hates
[00:56:13] us were America's villain like dude
[00:56:16] you did this to yourself and we got
[00:56:19] a pull for our guy Softy too
[00:56:20] because I was I was ready to listen
[00:56:23] to Softy's post game show in
[00:56:25] Michigan was on the what 12 yard line
[00:56:28] just just or sorry Texas was on the
[00:56:30] 12 yard line just waiting I was like
[00:56:32] oh man this might be a bad one this
[00:56:35] this might be bad on and they
[00:56:36] managed to survive so if the Huskies
[00:56:38] win see if Softy can give us five
[00:56:42] minutes to scream at us and then hop
[00:56:44] off and I think that would be a
[00:56:45] I think that'll be funny we'll get
[00:56:46] we'll cook it into a speak your
[00:56:48] mind segment softy what do you think
[00:56:54] I still have to go back to listen
[00:56:56] to Softy's post game show after
[00:56:57] the sugar bowl because apparently
[00:56:59] he was going nuts after the win
[00:57:01] which you would expect the loss if
[00:57:03] it had been a loss might have been
[00:57:04] crazier but apparently he was really
[00:57:06] going nuts after the win I think no
[00:57:08] matter what after the game on Monday
[00:57:10] softy's gonna be must listen radio
[00:57:14] I'm gonna be listening that's for sure
[00:57:16] yeah I can't wait okay so my
[00:57:19] speaker mind not quite on the level
[00:57:21] of humor is this whole JJ McCarthy
[00:57:23] Michigan thing but so we talked
[00:57:26] about it a couple weeks ago when
[00:57:28] we did our career slash life update
[00:57:32] that we did for what 30 minutes or so
[00:57:35] at the end of that episode when we
[00:57:36] did it but I mentioned in that episode
[00:57:39] that I'm going to spend a few months
[00:57:40] in New York City and now here we are
[00:57:43] recording on January 3rd why are we
[00:57:45] recording on a Wednesday for a Friday
[00:57:47] episode well because I'm leaving
[00:57:49] Friday morning Thursday is gonna be
[00:57:51] hectic I'm gonna have a ton of packing
[00:57:52] to do I'm gonna have a ton of stuff
[00:57:54] to get ready I still have a last few
[00:57:56] minute errands to run like Thursday
[00:57:58] is gonna be really crazy in my world
[00:58:00] and then I actually leave on Friday
[00:58:02] so this is the last episode will do
[00:58:05] where I'm sitting with this background
[00:58:06] for a while where this is where I've
[00:58:09] been doing most of it not all of our
[00:58:11] episodes but yeah anyway starting
[00:58:13] Friday heading out to New York first
[00:58:15] few days I'm staying with family and
[00:58:16] then I'll move into New York City
[00:58:18] specifically on Tuesday so the next
[00:58:21] podcast that comes out I will be
[00:58:24] in New York City I may not record
[00:58:26] it all from New York City and maybe
[00:58:27] from some of my family's house that's
[00:58:29] in the suburban counties outside the
[00:58:31] city but I am getting ready to get on
[00:58:34] my way here so yeah kind of a big life
[00:58:36] update on my end how we feeling well
[00:58:39] what are we excited are we nervous
[00:58:42] it's it's both and that's what I've
[00:58:44] told everybody that the two things
[00:58:45] I've told everybody is there's
[00:58:46] absolutely mixed emotions there's
[00:58:47] nerve and there's excitement and a
[00:58:49] lot of that is because it is a leap
[00:58:51] of faith and if you want to go back
[00:58:52] to listen to the episode we did a
[00:58:54] few weeks ago about the career life
[00:58:55] update stuff I said the reason I'm
[00:58:57] doing this and I'll repeat it here
[00:58:58] is because I'm trying to find my next
[00:59:00] sports media job and I've connected
[00:59:02] with a lot of people that are out
[00:59:03] there because a lot of sports media
[00:59:04] companies that do very similar things
[00:59:06] to the type of stuff that we do here
[00:59:07] on the podcast between the specific
[00:59:10] podcasting the social media content
[00:59:12] the unique the unique social content
[00:59:14] etc. doesn't really exist in Seattle
[00:59:17] and it's all on the most of it is
[00:59:19] on the East Coast and a lot of it
[00:59:21] to New York City so that's why
[00:59:22] I'm heading out there I do not
[00:59:24] currently as we sit have my next job
[00:59:25] in place and I am taking a leap of
[00:59:27] faith which is why it's nerve wracking
[00:59:28] and it's just a big move but at the
[00:59:30] same time as we talked about from the
[00:59:32] trip we all took back in October and
[00:59:35] the time we both spent there over our
[00:59:36] lifetime like I really like it there
[00:59:38] it's really fun there's a ton of stuff
[00:59:39] to do there are people I know back
[00:59:41] there which will be good but
[00:59:43] yeah it's very mixed emotions and
[00:59:45] I think it's going to be that way
[00:59:47] until I probably get settled in for
[00:59:48] a bit and the other thing I tell
[00:59:49] people is there's obviously no
[00:59:50] guarantee that this works I you know
[00:59:53] it's not locked in and secure anything
[00:59:56] by any means that I'm going to come
[00:59:59] out of this with a new job but I just
[01:00:00] decided this might give me the best
[01:00:02] chance to find one so for at least
[01:00:04] two to three months I'm going to give
[01:00:05] it a shot and see how it goes
[01:00:07] well I stay longer than that
[01:00:09] hopefully if I find something again
[01:00:10] at the two to three months get up
[01:00:13] and I haven't found anything I could
[01:00:15] either stay longer if I choose to
[01:00:16] I can come back to Seattle if
[01:00:18] I choose to and figure it out from
[01:00:19] there it's kind of it's kind of
[01:00:20] unknown right now but starting
[01:00:22] Friday I'll be going and to answer
[01:00:24] your question that you originally
[01:00:26] asked yeah I'd say it's mixed emotions
[01:00:28] but the best thing right to do when
[01:00:30] you get there at first I mean don't
[01:00:32] even give yourself a chance to be
[01:00:34] nervous I mean it's dive head in right
[01:00:36] I mean it is you everything you said
[01:00:40] you're going to do on this trip like
[01:00:42] day one start right yeah no the
[01:00:46] sooner I can start meeting with
[01:00:48] people in person or start even just
[01:00:51] seeing some friends or again like
[01:00:52] finding people to connect with the
[01:00:54] yeah that's the goal and also as we've
[01:00:57] talked about me going to New York does
[01:00:59] not change in any way shape or form
[01:01:00] what's going to go on with this
[01:01:01] podcast like we said we have some very
[01:01:03] big goals for your to that we
[01:01:05] definitely plan to try and execute
[01:01:06] and well beyond your to as well
[01:01:10] so that'll definitely take up some
[01:01:11] time so that'll keep me busy all this
[01:01:13] podcast up which is good hopefully
[01:01:15] all the time I spend trying to meet
[01:01:16] with people and network with people
[01:01:18] will keep me busy which will be good
[01:01:19] I'm sure I'll have some own some free
[01:01:21] time for social life and my own
[01:01:24] routines between you know I don't know
[01:01:27] going to the gym going to the store
[01:01:28] finding restaurants to check out
[01:01:29] finding food spots to go to or just
[01:01:31] kind of you know walking around the
[01:01:32] city or whatever so hopefully between
[01:01:34] all those things combined you're right
[01:01:36] that I just stay busy and don't have
[01:01:38] enough time to just sit around and
[01:01:40] be like well this is overwhelming so
[01:01:42] yeah to answer your question yes
[01:01:44] are you gonna become an equinox snob
[01:01:47] you know I would love to equinox gyms
[01:01:50] are expensive dude maybe one day if I
[01:01:52] ever had the money for it yes because
[01:01:55] again they're they're very nice and
[01:01:57] and it would probably be a very very
[01:02:00] good experience to go there but as
[01:02:02] somebody who's looking for a job I
[01:02:04] don't know if that's the best place
[01:02:06] to be spending my money right away
[01:02:08] again long term that'd be awesome
[01:02:09] but I don't know about right away
[01:02:11] it's cheaper than a car payment
[01:02:13] significantly payment however
[01:02:16] from the very very little I've looked
[01:02:18] up about it because again I was trying
[01:02:19] to look up yeah like what are some of
[01:02:21] the gyms in my area there like there
[01:02:23] is an equinox nearby there's a couple
[01:02:25] others nearby but these equinox gyms
[01:02:27] it's like well it's anywhere from like
[01:02:30] 250 to 300 bucks a month and that
[01:02:32] doesn't even count the initiation
[01:02:35] fee which is like another 400 bucks
[01:02:37] to start so your first month of
[01:02:39] fees at that place or something
[01:02:40] around 700 bucks I was like yeah
[01:02:43] that may not be the best bank for my
[01:02:45] buck I think I think to start I may
[01:02:48] have to go elsewhere and then one day
[01:02:50] if I I don't know a venom in
[01:02:53] Beniflyne car or become like the next
[01:02:57] Jared Carobas or somebody like that
[01:02:58] then then maybe then maybe I'd head
[01:03:01] my way over to equinox but I don't
[01:03:02] think to start I don't think I'm
[01:03:04] going to equinox as badly as I'd
[01:03:05] like to
[01:03:07] well I wish you could be in your
[01:03:08] show I could just choose I could
[01:03:09] wish you could have some pizza
[01:03:11] I miss it we went to the same pizza
[01:03:14] joint every single night that we were
[01:03:17] there in October and I got to say
[01:03:19] I'm I'm missing that the dough quality
[01:03:22] here in the middle of nowhere Oregon
[01:03:25] is not it's not quite the same and
[01:03:28] it's very disappointing well not every
[01:03:30] night we did go to one other pizza
[01:03:32] place they based off your recommendation
[01:03:35] oh you're right okay so so except
[01:03:37] for the first night yeah okay
[01:03:40] and and the difference and the
[01:03:41] difference is the place we went
[01:03:44] just about every single night is a
[01:03:46] place called Joe's Pizza which is
[01:03:48] it's basically the premier pizza
[01:03:50] slice staple in New York City right
[01:03:52] there's others but you're pretty
[01:03:54] close and it's very popular for good
[01:03:56] reason because it's really really good
[01:03:58] the other sites we tried was based
[01:04:01] off your recommendation you follow
[01:04:02] a tiktok account that does some
[01:04:04] very very unreal food reviews at
[01:04:06] these awesome places a lot of them
[01:04:08] being in New York City and you saw
[01:04:10] it and you bookmarked it saying yeah
[01:04:11] we need to go here while we're there
[01:04:12] and it's it's it's not like Joe's
[01:04:14] Pizza because what they call it as a
[01:04:16] specialty slice it's very different
[01:04:18] and it was very good but it's not
[01:04:19] the same as your classic New York
[01:04:20] slice Joe's Pizza wish it was open
[01:04:23] at 3 a.m. it would be that would
[01:04:25] hit oh yeah now Joe's Pizza was open
[01:04:27] at 3 a.m. so that'll be good but
[01:04:29] I'm a little jealous of that of that
[01:04:31] and and you know the way I think
[01:04:34] about it is for most of our lives
[01:04:38] for the most part at least the last
[01:04:41] eight years the last eight years
[01:04:43] it's life has never really been settled
[01:04:45] that much it's always been in constant
[01:04:47] flux and now that I've had a job
[01:04:50] for two and a half years being in one
[01:04:53] place like kind of makes me anxious
[01:04:55] it does like I'm just not used to it
[01:04:57] and I'm like okay like I know
[01:04:59] I know I'm not setting setting up
[01:05:01] roots here that that has never been
[01:05:03] in the cards and not will not be
[01:05:04] in the cards because I have bigger
[01:05:06] things on my mind than where I am
[01:05:09] right now however I am where I am
[01:05:10] right now so when I I got to say
[01:05:14] like the little twinge of jealousy
[01:05:16] that you're going to take this step
[01:05:17] and go go be go do a little bit more
[01:05:20] adventurous things to better your
[01:05:22] career like that's exciting that's
[01:05:24] so exciting and obviously it's in
[01:05:26] a place that I love visiting and
[01:05:28] love going to and it's great for
[01:05:30] people and of really all ages but
[01:05:32] especially if you're young and
[01:05:33] energetic and just like breathe in
[01:05:36] the energy of the people and the
[01:05:38] environment around you is it's just
[01:05:40] very intoxicating and very different
[01:05:42] from from where I am right now so
[01:05:46] I got to say dog it is is a credit
[01:05:48] to you that you're doing this and
[01:05:50] it's going to be fun I like I think
[01:05:51] we're gonna have fun I think
[01:05:52] it's going to be exciting and I
[01:05:53] think you'll you'll learn a lot
[01:05:55] because it is you'll be thrown
[01:05:57] straight into the fire.
[01:05:59] Well that's nice to you.
[01:06:00] Thanks dog.
[01:06:00] Yeah at the very least it'll be
[01:06:03] I will get something out of it.
[01:06:04] The hope is my next sports media
[01:06:06] job if it's not that I'm sure there
[01:06:08] will be a lot I take away whether
[01:06:09] it's people I connect with or just
[01:06:10] experiences I had or lessons I
[01:06:12] learned etc and and like
[01:06:14] transparently this this is very
[01:06:16] out of my comfort zone to do this
[01:06:17] because I'm usually somebody who
[01:06:19] you know okay it's weird I I would
[01:06:21] say I'm a person who doesn't like
[01:06:22] to get out of my comfort zone a
[01:06:23] lot that being said I've also
[01:06:25] never been all that afraid of
[01:06:28] living in other places because
[01:06:29] like some of my friends from
[01:06:30] here and I'm sure some of your
[01:06:31] friends are like this too they're
[01:06:32] very much homebodies they grew up
[01:06:34] here they went to school in the
[01:06:36] state of Washington they have
[01:06:38] settled down their their roots in
[01:06:39] the state of Washington they plan
[01:06:40] to be here long term they're not
[01:06:42] all that interested in picking
[01:06:43] up and going somewhere else where
[01:06:45] with me I've spent you know I
[01:06:48] lived in Washington but we both
[01:06:49] went to school in Arizona we
[01:06:50] both spent a lot of time on the
[01:06:52] east coast in our lives I went
[01:06:54] to Dayton for a year etc.
[01:06:56] They're not a year but six
[01:06:57] months so yeah I've never been
[01:06:59] that afraid of picking up and
[01:07:00] moving that being said I guess
[01:07:03] it's never been in a situation
[01:07:04] like this where it is a totally
[01:07:06] but they then you're just hoping
[01:07:07] it works but so this way it's
[01:07:09] out of my comfort zone for sure
[01:07:10] but I'll see in your case I
[01:07:13] get what you're saying though
[01:07:14] just to add a little bit more
[01:07:15] context but on top of all that
[01:07:16] you're more of a simplistic
[01:07:18] person and day-to-day life.
[01:07:21] That that part's true like I
[01:07:22] very much have my routine
[01:07:24] there's things I like again like
[01:07:26] I get a little anxious if I get
[01:07:27] out of my normal routine like I
[01:07:28] like to have things like I
[01:07:30] don't know like the way I go
[01:07:31] about my own daily life I don't
[01:07:34] know set in a certain way and
[01:07:35] yeah when that gets thrown in
[01:07:36] or thrown for a wrench like
[01:07:38] moving to a new place that you
[01:07:39] haven't spent extended time
[01:07:41] before you know that's the
[01:07:42] part that is that is a little
[01:07:44] bit different so in that way
[01:07:47] yeah like that parts out of
[01:07:48] my comfort zone but just like
[01:07:49] anything with enough time
[01:07:51] with enough time you'll
[01:07:52] probably just get used to
[01:07:53] and you're going to somewhere
[01:07:54] with significantly more
[01:07:55] distractions to disrupt that
[01:07:56] like significantly more you
[01:07:59] can in your current climate
[01:08:00] keep your routine for the most
[01:08:02] part as much as you want
[01:08:04] but but moving to New York City
[01:08:05] like good luck.
[01:08:08] Well that's the preference
[01:08:09] of well good luck.
[01:08:12] I hope you find your way.
[01:08:13] No, I'm I'm kidding but I'm
[01:08:14] bye buddy.
[01:08:15] I hope you find your dad exactly
[01:08:17] that's that's exactly what I
[01:08:18] was thinking but yeah the
[01:08:20] next time you are listening
[01:08:22] to a new podcast of ours.
[01:08:25] I probably will not yet be
[01:08:27] recording from my new location.
[01:08:29] Well actually part of it may be
[01:08:31] from the new location TBD
[01:08:33] but by the time you're listening
[01:08:34] I will be there and by the time
[01:08:35] next Friday's episode comes
[01:08:37] out I will be fully ingrained
[01:08:38] in New York City which is
[01:08:39] pretty crazy to think about
[01:08:40] but yeah we're just a few
[01:08:42] days away now so in the meantime
[01:08:45] I better get ready so because
[01:08:46] I have a lot of stuff to do
[01:08:47] before I leave including
[01:08:48] editing this show.
[01:08:50] Good idea.
